A top Virginia Democrat has her offices raided in a major fraud scandal. We're going to unpack the California gubernatorial debate. Who shined and who left with a whole lot of egg on their face. And a quick tribute to Marco Rubio, who, in his latest responsibility for the White House, stepped in as press secretary. All of that and so much more today on 10 Minute Drill.
Audience or Crowd
Everybody get up. Get up.
President Donald Trump
The story of America is the story of an adventure.
Religious or Political Figure
I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. We, we are a nation under God, and I believe God intended for us to be free.
Host
Late Tuesday night, President Trump announced that we would be pausing Project Freedom in an effort to give peace negotiations a chance. That was a little bit confusing to some people because Project Freedom was the humanitarian effort. But as President Trump said, they believe they're on the precipice of a major nuclear discussion breakthrough. So we'll wait to see what happens. But here's President Trump discussing the underlying issues yesterday.
President Donald Trump
In the case of Iran, we're not going to let Iran have a nuclear weapon. We're not going to let that happen, and we won't let that happen. And so we're, we're dealing with people that want to make a deal very much, and we'll see whether or not they can make a deal that's satisfactory to us.
Host
One challenge with President Trump's posture is the fact that the cease fire has never actually involved anyone seizing fire. But President Trump has tried to sort of minimize the attacks from Iran as they were working with certain contingents within Iran to secure a deal. Now, the problem now is we're talking about potentially having talks about the nuclear program. We're hoping that that leads to a resolution fairly quickly. But President Trump has also said we maintain the posture and ability to begin dropping bombs again if we need to. Late Tuesday night, California held a gubernatorial debate and it was full of fireworks.
Gubernatorial Debate Candidate 1
After 16 years of one party rule from these Democrats that have given us the highest poverty rate, as you mentioned, the highest unemployment rate.
Katie Porter
I want Javier to answer the question, do you support California?
Host
Now, we've talked about Katie Porter, the fact that earlier this week she released what we view as the worst campaign out of the cycle. I would note that as other candidates sort of attacked her, it was kind of like punching down because she's in about fifth place, place. Nothing she seems to be doing is helping her climb anymore. But I thought it was interesting that she wanted to make a point about temperament.
Katie Porter
I can't believe that on a stage with 30 minutes of interrupting and bickering and name calling and shouting and disrespect for everyone up here who's stepping into public service that anyone wants to talk about my temperament.
Host
She also said the quiet part out loud about wanting to have free health care for illegal immigrants paid for by California taxpayers. Congresswoman Porter, your thoughts on the idea of funding health care for undocumented immigrants statewide?
Katie Porter
Yes.
Host
And the other key admission there that ties to that is the fact that she acknowledged that illegal immigration is the only way California's seen any growth in the last few years.
Katie Porter
The sanctuary state policy is designed to make sure that our state resources, the taxpayer dollars, the public that we have, are focusing on doing their jobs, which is not cooperating with the federal immigration authorities. These are Californians. They contribute to our economy. They pay taxes, and they're one of the only ways that our state has been growing in recent years.
Host
Now, that admission about illegal immigrants being the only way California is growing is actually a significant shot across the bow to Gavin Newsom, who's been trying to go and defend his record by saying California is growing in all these ways, even though all the numbers show people are leaving very quickly, except for, as Katie Porter acknowledged, illegal immigrants. But one person who took a lot of fire in this debate is the person who's sort of taken over as the front runner, former Biden HHS Secretary Javier Becerra.
Critic of Javier Becerra
Well, look, first of all, I just have to set the record straight on Javier's touting his experience. The Biden administration, President Biden openly talked about firing him, had to sideline him during COVID because he wasn't delivering results.
Host
That is going to be one of Becerra's biggest vulnerability, besides the fact that he's never accomplished anything and doesn't come off as particularly intelligent, is the fact that when he served as the Secretary of Health and Human Services during a global pandemic, he had to be sidelined because he couldn't be counted on as a reliable authority because, unfortunately, he is a moron. But after, in the spin room, another former Biden official gave a little bit more color to that point.
Former Biden Official
Governor will have to stand up to Donald Trump. Can I tell you, after working in Joe Biden's administration, I do not trust. Have you ever set up to do that? Can I, can I just say, whoa, whoa. I don't, I don't trust that he would be able to do that.
Host
Becerra is essentially rising as the front runner right now because Eric Swalwell has stepped out of the race because he's a pervert. And Katie Porter has completely disqualified herself because she's a crazy person. Matt Mahan, the mayor of San Jose, very close to my hometown, is running a fairly moderate, normal campaign even as an anti Trump Democrat. But I don't know that he has enough money, energy or national voices supporting him to break through. Becerra Wright now is the odds on favorite, but just like so many other Democrats, he has to run against the fact that he's got no record and isn't particularly compelling to anybody else out there. Yesterday, Fox News reported that there's been a major raid into the businesses of a top Democrat. Senate leader Louise Lucas has been tied to a major corruption investigation.
Reporter at FBI Raid
The FBI here telling us today that these are court authorized criminal search warrants that they are issuing. They're going into the building behind me. This is the office here in Portsmouth of State Senator Louise Lucas. You can likely see some of the FBI agents behind me.
Host
Now, a number of Democrats and their friendly allies in the media have tried to suggest this might simply be retribution because of Virginia Democrats recent victory on redistricting and things like that. But it's important to note, as the New York Times did, this investigation began under Joe Biden. And anyone who's watched Louise Lucas throughout her career won't be surprised at all to find that she's tied to corruption because her personal business efforts and her official efforts as a state senator have always been tied very closely together, particularly in her marijuana dispensary business. But she also has often tried to paint herself as essentially a mob boss. When texts came to light showing that Virginia Attorney General candidate Jay Jones wanted to murder children, she tweeted this. Virginia is for lovers, not snitches. That certainly sounds like a very innocent person who cares about following the law. Good luck to Louise. Earlier this week, the Daily Wire released a bombshell report about fraud in Ohio. Star reporter Luke Rosiak spent several weeks digging into this, particularly the role of fraudulent hospice facilities. 94 Medicaid home health companies purport to occupy this office building, taking more than 66 million of your money. They provide free butlers to immigrants.
Luke Rosiak
No windows on the outside helps hide the fact that there's nobody inside. But when you go in is really obvious. The place is deserted. It's downright creepy. There is no one in any of the offices. They're dark. Curtains are drawn. Some of them have notes that are like, we'll be back in a few minutes. And you can tell it's been that way for months.
Host
This is a part of a series that the Daily Wire is building out called Medicaid Millionaires. Very similar in theme to what we saw in Minnesota, where people have taken our tax dollars through Medicaid and set up fraudulent businesses, but purportedly providing home health services, quality learning centers, things like that. And Luke points to the fact that Doge made the information about these Medicaid contracts and waivers available online, allowing people like Luke to look into that. It's going to be a multi part series, but this is a huge bombshell and as Luke points out, this happened in a red state in Ohio, the home of J.D. vance, who's now the czar of fraud in the United States. And I imagine they're going to be sinking their teeth into this around the country. More to Come One of my favorite parts of this current presidential administration has been Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Not just because he's an incredibly effective communicator dealing with some of the most complex issues this administration is taking on, particularly foreign policy related, but also because he's been the most incredible political meme machine that I think we've ever seen. The meme of Marco Rubio sitting on the couch and taking on new responsibilities in the administration is always a lot of fun. For example, when Marco Rubio became a Canadian Mountie, when Marco Rubio found out he had to become the new Ayatollah, when Marco Rubio found out that he was going to be the new leader of Venezuela. Or when Marco Rubio found out he had to fill in on the Artemis launch. But most recently, the role that he took on that he did a phenomenal job on was earlier this week filling in for the role of press secretary. With Caroline Levitt out on maternity leave, he was asked a very simple question and gave an answer that I thought was just absolutely phenomenal and worth sharing
Marco Rubio
for America at a time such as this. My hope for America and how do you personally deal with that? Yeah, look, I mean, my hope for America is what it's always been. I think it's the hope I hope we all share. We want it to continue to be the place where anyone from anywhere can achieve anything, where you're not limited by the circumstances of your birth, by the color of your skin, by your ethnicity. But frankly, it's a place where you are able to overcome challenges and, and achieve your full potential. I think that should be the goal of every country in the world, frankly. But I think in the US we're not perfect. Our history is not one of perfection, but it's still better than anybody else's history and ours is a story of perpetual improvement. Each generation has left the next generation of Americans freer, more prosperous, safer, and that is our goal as well. But it is a unique and exceptional country and as we come upon this 250 year anniversary, I think we have a lot to learn and be proud of in our history. It is one of perpetual and continuous improvement and where each generation has done its part to bring us closer to fulfilling the vision that the founders of this country had upon its founding.
Host
I don't think Caroline Levitt has to pack her bags anytime soon because she's got an important job and Marco's plate is pretty full, as we've discussed with all of his other responsibilities. But again, he's one of the greatest political communicators in, I would say, modern history and I look forward to seeing more and more of him throughout this presidency. For our you can't make it up segment today, I regret to inform you that Barack Obama is disappointed in us. But first, he is doing a lot of media to highlight his new presidential library. If you look closely at it, to me it looks quite a bit like the Prison Azkaban from the Harry Potter series. It is objectively one of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen in my life. But he seems to be very proud of it and he's doing quite a bit of media surrounding it. And in one of his interviews, he talked to Stephen Colbert about his disappointment in the Republican Party.
Barack Obama
I'm worried about the Republican Party, not just the Democratic Party. When I was president, people would ask me, what change would you like to see in Washington? I'd say I'd love a loyal opposition. I'd love a Republican Party that was conservative in some ways, that didn't agree with me on a whole bunch of stuff, but believed in rule of law and judicial independence.
Host
And well, Barack, we will have to live with your disappointment. First, I would just say when somebody says something like this they'd like better opposition, it's usually because they keep winning and winning and winning. Barack Obama paved the way for Donald Trump in some ways twice. And so I think that the opposition has still been fairly successful in light of what President Obama sees as serious shortcomings, but also just in terms of things like rule of law. I don't think anybody on the Republican side needs to be lectured by the guy who used executive orders to completely destroy the power of the legislative branch, everything from shutting down coal mines to expanding DACA and immigration policy well beyond what Congress ever intended to things that were completely illegal, like the IRS targeting scandal, or like Operation Fast and Furious, where an actual American Customs and Border Patrol agent was murdered by cartels with weapons provided by Barack Obama's atf. So again, not sure anyone needs to be lectured by Barack Obama, but I think we've all gotten very comfortable with the fact that he's always going to be a little bit disappointed with us. That is all the time we have today. Thank you so much for joining us on 10 Minute Drill. Please like, subscribe, leave a review, tell your friends, and have a great day.
