Unpacking the ICE involved shooting in Minneapolis. A house hearing dives in deeper to the Minnesota fraud scandal. And we're looking at the LA Wildfire's one year anniversary and what anyone has learned from it. If anything, all of that and so much more today on 10 Minute Drill.
B
Everybody get up.
A
Get up. The story of America is the story of an adventure.
B
I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. We are a nation under God and I believe God intended for us to be free.
A
As tensions have heated up around the country around ice, Yesterday there was a tragic ICE involved shooting in Minneapolis. We do so earlier this morning that.
B
Minneapolis was the site of an ICE officer involved shooting.
A
If you first learned about this shooting from hearing local officials speak, you wouldn't have a very clear picture of what happened. First, here's Jacob Frey. They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. However, because it is 2026 and there are cameras everywhere when any event happens, additional footage gave more context to what actually happened. Look at this image. As you can see here, there is an officer in front of the vehicle. But we're gonna go to this angle as well. From far away, when you zoom in, you can see the ICE officer was directly in front of the vehicle. A lot of people have argued to suggest she was turning her wheels. But if you're standing directly in front of that car, if you, you can't see where the wheels are turning, all you know is that a car is accelerating into you. This is a tragedy that anybody would ever be shot. But it also highlights the fact that context matters. It does matter that this ICE agent saw a car coming directly at him, a deadly weapon, and took action here. And the bullet holes in that front window debunk a lot of what critics are saying is an ICE agent simply killing an American. But if again, you go back to those Minneapolis officials, particularly Mayor Jacob Frey, to ice get the out of Minneapolis, it's fairly clear here that Democrats want to incite riots like what Minneapolis saw after the death of George Floyd. Whether they want it to distract from the larger scandals going around Minnesota is anyone's guess. But when you understand the context here, this was a tragedy and it's also a result of Democrats escalating rhetoric around ice. If you made it this far in today's 10 minute drill, when you have a second, please go in and leave us a rating or a review on Apple podcasts, Spotify, anywhere you're getting your podcasts, we appreciate it. Yesterday, the House Oversight Committee held a first hearing on the Minnesota fraud scandal.
B
The breadth and depth of this fraud is breathtaking. And I fear that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
A
A major theme of this was the involvement and role of Governor Tim Waltz, but also Attorney General Keith Ellison.
B
Got it. So in other words, you're saying that there was a political incentive to cover up widespread Somali fraud, is that right? 100% got it. Let me ask all three of you, did the Waltz administration and Democrats intentionally, in your opinion, overlook this fraud while it was happening for political gain? I'll start with you, Ms. Robbins.
A
Absolutely. So that was Texas Rep. Brandon Gill talking to two different Minnesota representatives about what happened. Exchange came from South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace. What role do you think he, Tim Walls and Keith Ellison played their his administration in delaying investigations into the fraud?
B
So I've outlined several things where they stopped our ability to strengthen internal controls and they also shut down the criminal investigations by the OIG and dhs.
A
As Democrats watched this hearing unfold, one could only ask what they might be thinking because. Because this fraud was incredibly blatant and it's well documented objectively by everyone from the New York Times and Washington Post to CBS News. But here's Jasmine Crockett's take.
B
The real fraud is the dehumanization and demonization of the working class Americans and immigrants to distract folks away from corporate socialism. That's happening because of the Republicans.
A
Now if you can't see that robbing $9 billion from taxpayers and making it more difficult for American citizens to access services like Medicaid and, and childcare because these programs are fraudulent and they're taking resources away from people who need them. If you can't see that that's dehumanizing to the working class, you've missed the boat entirely. But all this comes back to a theme that we've been discussing now for several weeks. We had our first episode discussing Keith Ellison and his secret recording in the beginning of December. What that recording highlighted was Keith Ellison committing to members of the Somali community that he would assist them in covering up this investigation with which is what that hearing confirmed. But Keith Ellison is not backing down. In spite of all of this. Here he is on cnn. Of course we've done enough and we're doing more every single day. This is a political matter. This is not a serious thing. And when Ellison says this is a political matter, not a serious one, once again you see that he's trying to downplay his role in this. Here's a tweet that he posted yesterday. Listen, you're going to hear a lot of BS from Republicans who would rather play politics than protect Minnesotans money. The truth is I'm proud to hold the record as the most effective prosecutor of Medicaid and civil fraud despite Republican obstruction. My office has prosecuted over 300 criminals and recovered over 70 million for the state. So again, when you hear him say he's returned $70 million, contrast that with the $9 billion that he did not return. And when he met with those fraudsters, they were at that exact time dealing with fraud in the hundreds of millions of dollars range as a part again of that larger $9 billion in fraud. Now, Keith Ellison's best defense, and the reason he's trying to downplay is he's argued he didn't know those fraudsters were being investigated when he met with them and when he promised to help them. Now the investigations were happening both from federal agents but also his own office. And so for him to say he didn't know this was happening is pretty outrageous. But to be fair, he was also involved in other crazy things. For ex. Wow. Crazy 2020 climate scam lawsuit filed by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison suggested that carbon dioxide might make Minnesota too hot for people of color. So again, we know that Ellison has been involved in a lot of crazy things at this same time, but his best defense is that he didn't know what his own AG's office was doing and he didn't know that Feds were investigating people in his own state. That he is the chief law enforcement officer of. Would you rather be dumb or evil? That is the choice for Keith Ellison. But both of them, both of them carry culpability in this giant fraud scheme. On Tuesday we talked about the successful law enforcement operation to arrest socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and bring him here to face justice in New York City. A surprising thing happened almost immediately after that operation was carried out. Here's CNN's Harry.
B
Just 21% support come over to this side of the screen after the ousting. Look at that. The support through the roof. Now we're talking about 37%, well within the margin of error right here of the opposition, 38%. It turns out Americans like what they deem to be successful foreign policy operations.
A
So as Harry's highlighting there, support for removing Maduro from power skyrocketed after it happened. Now I believe there are three main reasons for this. One, One, as Harry said, seeing an effective operation carried out, seeing the US Military be incredibly effective, do something incredibly impressive. People like to see that. Two People have learned more about Maduro and just how terrible he is, both in terms of working with our adversaries from China, Iran, Russia, but also getting drugs into the United States. But third, they're seeing Democrats react to this and they're seeing Democrat elected officials standing shoulder to shoulder on with actual Communists. Let's show that communist one more time. Free President Maduro. Contrast this terrible reaction from Democrats and socialists with what they've seen from the administration. Here's Marco Rubio.
B
What we're not going to allow is for the oil industry in Venezuela to be controlled by adversaries of the United States. You have to understand why does China need their oil? Why does Russia need their oil? Why does Iran need their oil? They're not even in this continent. This is the Western Hemisphere. This is where we live. And we're not going to allow the Western Hemisphere to be a base of operation for adversaries. Competitors and rivals of the United States have specific oil.
A
On Tuesday, President Trump spoke to Republicans at their annual retreat to get them ready for the midterm year to come.
B
We've had the most successful first year of any president in history.
A
President Trump talked about a lot of things. One issue that he talked about was the fact that Republicans advantage right now is that polling shows us most Americans view Republicans as the more normal party. Democrats are already seeing their fringe rise. And one dynamic that Democrats are concerned about with these midterms is very difficult primaries where fringe candidates are challenging their more establishment candidates. For example, in Politico, Democrats face messy primary fights as DSCC loses grip on candidates. One of the most prominent examples of that that we've talked about is Jasmine Crockett entering that Texas Senate primary. You not. You not. We done picking cotton. In Minnesota, there's a heated primary where crazy Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan has entered the race.
B
Salam alaykum. My name is Peggy Flanagan. I am the lieutenant governor of Minnesota.
A
Other big primary contests are shaping up in Michigan or also in Maine where Nazi tattoo holder Graham Platner is trying to fight against radical socialist Janet Mills. So again, in Senate races, we're seeing this in House races. It's also a dynamic to watch. This from Daily Caller. Democrats are looking to flip control of Congress in 2026. These nasty primary battles could get in the way. Heated primaries are picking up in districts in California, Colorado, Arizona, Pennsylvania and others where radical Democrats are feeling empowered by the rise of people like Zoran Mandami and AOC challenging the more establishment candidates picked by the leadership in Washington, D.C. so this will be a very interesting dynamic to see if Republicans are able to capitalize on Democrats embracing their more radical far left fringe. This week marks the one year anniversary of the tragic LA wildfires and one of the episodes of the worst Democrat mismanagement in American history. To mark the occasion, Gavin Newsom did an interview and here's one thing he said.
B
Where are we at in the recovery effort? We've made tremendous progress. The fastest debris removal in American history.
A
Now, as Gavin takes credit for that, it's important to note that that debris removal was carried out by the Army Corps of Engineers and epa, the federal government. California had nothing to do with it. And when he talks about how they're making progress, you have to remember, not only have they not built a single house yet in the rebuild, but the permitting process under Gavin Newsom's leadership is slated to to take more than 400 years for the full area to be rebuilt. This is Gavin Newsom's Leadership 101. And it's so important to remember that while those wildfires were picking up, Gavin Newsom positioned fire personnel away from one of the burn spots that turned into the fire. And also as the fire was picking up, Gavin Newsom was not there. Involved helping direct traffic. He was meeting with Democrat legislators to to strike a deal to what they call Trump proof the state spending taxpayer dollars to fight against Donald Trump. That is what they were focused on. And now they're spending this year finding whatever red tape they can throw in the way of anyone who wants to rebuild their own home. There's also massive new fees being dropped on people who want to again rebuild their own homes that were burned down in a fire that Gavin Newsom allowed to happen by not controlling the brush in Wildfire Alley, not refilling the water in the fire hydrants. But just to wrap this up in one more piece of evidence of what I call the Gavin Newsom effect, this week U Haul released their U Haul Growth Index, which highlights what states have the most people moving into them and what states have the most people moving out of them. Once again, California has the number one position for people moving out of the state by versus moving in, followed closely by Illinois, New York and New Jersey. My friends, that is what we call the Gavin Newsom effect. And if he wants to run for president, he's going to have to explain how he made the most beautiful, most temperate, best weather state in the country the least attractive for anyone to actually live in. I was in California last week. It is the best in so many ways. And yet Gavin Newsom is so, so bad that people do not want to live there. That is all the time we have for today.
