We are one week out from major election contests around the country. President Trump is in Asia. We're going to talk about renovation, gate, all of that and so much more today on 10 Minute Drill. Everybody get up. Get up. The story of America is the story of an adventure.
B
I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. We are a nation under God, and I believe God intended for us to be free.
A
We are one week out from election Day in a number of major contests. First, let's go to New York. This is a rally held for socialist mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdami over the weekend. Zoran Mandami's candidacy was endorsed by Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries, once again highlighting the fact that this is the party now.
B
But here's Bernie at a moment when Americans are extremely distressed about where we are as a nation, economically and politically. A victory here in New York will give hope and inspiration to people throughout our country.
A
And here is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. But we must remember in a time such as this, we are not the crazy ones. New York City, because of course, you know what they say. If you yell, we are not crazy, I loud enough, enough times, it gets very, very convincing for people. But as we said at the beginning of this segment, whether it is, you know, rallying alongside Communist Party USA at the no Kings rallies or having major Democrat Party leadership endorse an actual, actual anti American socialist in Zoran Mamdani. This is the party now. There's no split between the establishment, the base. This is the entire party. But to be fair to the poor people of New York who are about to go through this, they did not really have an alternative. When you look at, I'm not a pervert. I'm just Italian. Andrew Cuomo. The other major contests we're watching the New Jersey governor's race where Democrat Mikey Sherrill has been struggling for months to defend herself against a number of very fair attacks, including things about her military record, her term at the Naval Academy, the stock trades where she's made $7 million while serving in the Armed Services Committee, and the fact that utilities have skyrocketed under Democrat leadership in the state. And she's given no real plan to fight against it. But the other major marquee races to watch are in Virginia, where the attorney's general race was turned upside down after the Democrat candidate for attorney general first was caught in a major scandal. He was caught going well over 100 miles an hour. And instead of going to jail, he accepted a community service sentence. But he didn't do any community service. He worked for his own super pac and he likely got paid for it. But the much bigger scandal in that same race is the fact that Jay Jones, that Democrat attorney general candidate, was texted another lawmaker about wanting to murder his political opponents and watch their children die. That major bombshell has both changed the attorney's general race, but also the governor's race, where Republican candidate winsome Earl Sears has pulled incredibly close to Abigail Spamberger, who both can't distance herself from Jay Jones and his desire to murder people, but also can't explain her position on allowing sex criminals into bathrooms and locker rooms with young girls. President Trump is in Asia this week. He began over the weekend in Malaysia. They were heavily focused on trade and mineral deals. Then on Monday, he flew to Tokyo. He held a major meeting with the new Japanese prime minister just this morning. On Wednesday, he'll fly to South Korea for a bilateral with the President. He'll have a keynote at the APEC CEO luncheon. And then on Thursday, he has the much awaited bilateral meeting with China President Xi Jinping before returning to Washington, D.C. these are all very important meetings, whether it's the mineral deals that he's working on with countries like Malaysia that are focused on improving our own economy, but also the minerals and parts that are very necessary for manufacturing across the board. In Japan, he's meeting with the new prime minister, Sanaya Takaichi, who is very famous for having a much more conservative view than some of her predecessors, including on issues like immigration. She and President Trump have a lot in common as they talk about trying to cut back on illegal immigration in their country. And then the marquee meeting here will be with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where they're talking about everything from the future of TikTok to our trade relationship, which has had major ripple effects on the American economy. We will track this all closely and on our Thursday episode, give a bigger readout on how all these things have played out. Today is day 28 of the Federal government shutdown and there is no end in sight as we approach one of the major cliff deadlines in this shutdown in the beginning of next month, in just days, 42 million people will lose SNAP benefits. Now we can have a much longer conversation about how scary it is that 42 million people are on SNAP benefits in our country. But in the near term, look at how scary it is that Democrats are willing to see so many people go without food for this political exercise. Now, one complaint that I've had throughout the shutdown is the fact that Democrats have not made any actual policy argument for why they need to keep the government shut down. Their fight over these healthcare subsidies was turned on its head last week as a number of Senate Democrats put out cases of people who are going to lose their subsidies who are actually very unsympathetic. Let's go first to Amy Klobuchar. Early retirees like Bill and Shelley will see their health insurance Premiums increase nearly 300% from $442 to $1700 per month. If Congressional Republicans refuse to extend the enhanced tax credits. That's an extra $15,000 a year families can't afford. Now a couple points here. I don't want anyone to have to pay more for health care than they should because of this broken Obamacare system. But if you're pointing out cases like this, early retirees are not sympathetic. Both these people worked government jobs, have six figure government pensions and were able to retire in their late 50s. So as you have younger Americans who can't afford their healthcare right now, along with anything else being told, they need to pay for these pandemic era premium subsidies for these vacationers to spend more time in fancy places like Lahore, which you see pictured there. It is incredibly unsympathetic. And Amy Klobuchar's tweet got a lot of pushback and generated a lot of news stories cuz it highlighted just how ridiculous this policy is. The Democrats are demanding. But the latest inflection point in the shutdown came yesterday morning. This tweet from Jake Sherman. Big news from NBC. American Federation of Government Employees says it's time to pass a clean CR and open the government. AFG says both sides have made their point, but Democrats have said they're not trying to make a point, they want to enact change. So this is the largest government worker union in the country and they have turned on Democrats and say we need to open the government. Which is a massive, massive, massive sign that we may start to see a little bit of wiggle room because these government unions control Democrats completely. So we'll see if there's a light at the end of the tunnel coming up fairly soon. In addition to those major elections we talked about earlier in the program, another major election coming up is California's Prop 50. This is the ballot measure that will redraw California's congressional districts to make them even more gerrymandered than they already are. As we talked about a few months ago, California's current districts are already so gerrymandered that Republicans in the state of California have far less representation than what we're seeing in states like Texas. In new maps that Democrats are saying are the end of the world, as we showed previously, here are some of the absurd district lines that actually look a lot like animals and other things for California's new proposed maps. Arnold Schwarzenegger went on CNN to push back on Gavin Newsom's major, major power grab.
B
There is such extreme gerrymandering going on that in a state like Massachusetts, it has like 40% of the people voting for Trump. They only had zero representatives. The Republican Party has zero representatives sent to the House.
A
With this major Gavin Newsom power grab in the backdrop and the fact that Gavin Newsom and Democrats are pushing to overthrow California's very popular independent redistricting commission. Gavin also teased in an interview that he is planning on considering running for president in 2028 after the 2026 midterms. You're going to give it serious thought?
B
Yeah, I'd be lying otherwise. I'd just be lying, and I can't do that.
A
We've all known that Gavin was planning on running for president forever. It's not a surprise. He's already gotten a pretty, pretty cold reception to that with people like Joe Rogan saying, how could you possibly run for president after destroying the city of San Francisco, destroying the state of California? We've talked about the amount of businesses that have up and left because of his terrible policies. We talked about his energy policies driving gas up to $8.50. But as he is running for president, he's pulling what I call a Kamala Harris and trying to reinvent his bio. Here he is in a podcast over the weekend.
B
It was also about paying the bills, man. And it was just like hustling. And so I was out there kind of raising myself.
A
Now, as you hear Gavin talk about his tough childhood, it's really important to remember his father was the attorney for the Getty family and he was a judge. Gavin did not have any kind of rough life at all. He grew up with the classic silver spoon. But as a part of Democrat politics, it's really important to pretend that you are everything you're not. So here we go. In this podcast, we plan to talk a lot about what we might think would be good slogans for him, what might be good logos. My dream would be the back of a U Haul truck because he has the record for people who rented U Hauls to leave the state of California to go anywhere else in the country. You're likely going to see a lot of pictures of that famous map from San Francisco that shows the locations where homeless people have defecated. But my favorite part of this is going to be the eventual showdown with Kamala Harris, who also has said just in the last few days, she's not done yet. Your book I'm not done. That is correct. I am not done. And he's already off to a great start. Here's a tweet of him highlighting the fact that he gave 140 million in tax dollars to bail out Planned Parenthood when they can't rebuild the Pacific Palisades. They haven't laid a single track of high speed rail after 60 years. And Gavin won't fork up a dime to pay for the incredibly popular Prop 36 that will make crime in California illegal again. And yet $140 million for abortion in the state. It is very difficult for me to believe somebody this radical could be president. He's got the political instincts of Kamala Harris, the charm of Hunter Biden and the family values of Anthony Weiner. And we are excited to see where all this goes. If you have any good ideas for Gavin Newsom, campaign slogans or campaign logos, please leave them in the comments, leave them in the replies. Come to our social media and help us out because on Thursday we're gonna do a big segment on that. Over the last few weeks, the White House has embarked on a long planned renovation of the east wing of the White House. But you would think that Armageddon had come.
B
I think it's fairly grotesque to begin construction. Just the optics of beginning construction on a grand ballroom.
A
Since that time, the White House and others have pointed out nearly every president has made some change. President Obama put in a basketball court. President Truman gutted the entire inside and redid it. But looking at some of these reactions again, you would think that President Trump had desecrated the entire city of Washington, D.C. here are some of my favorite reactions. This is Tara Sett Meier. It feels almost the same as when I saw the pentagon damage on 9 11. If you think that adding a ballroom to the White House, which presidents from both parties have said they've wanted for decades, if you think that's the same as 9 11, you're a crazy person. Here's another great reaction. California House candidate Esther Kim Verrett not saying Trump is a copy of Hitler, but definitely saying Trump intentionally copies Hitler. In 1938, Hitler built a grandiose reception hall as one of his favorite pet projects. Ah yes, Adolf Hitler, famous interior decorator and renovator and lover of ballrooms. If your knee jerk reaction to something like President Trump building a ballroom that parties from both sides have wanted for a long time is that's just like Hitler, you've lost the plot. The problem here is Democrats and President Trump's detractors were okay with Jackie Kennedy doing a lot of revisions to the inside of the White House. Cuz they like Jackie Kennedy. They just don't like President Trump. Ferrari, you can't make it up segment today. I'm trying to avoid making all of these about Karine Jean Pierre's book tour, but they keep yielding such phenomenal content. Here she is over the weekend. Karine, do you have any regrets at all for anything that you said while you were speaking on behalf of this administration?
B
I woke up every day as a black woman who is queer, who had never, no one had ever seen someone.
A
Like me at that podium standing behind that lectern. So when Karine announced that she was writing a book, a lot of people thought it would be an opportunity for her to clear the air and say, I wish we had done a few things differently. But if you've watched even a second of her book tour, it's nothing like that. So she has no regrets. But she also wants you to know the thing that she's most proud of is not any particular accomplishment, not anything she was a part of announcing or rolling out. It's the fact that she woke up every day as a black queer woman. Do we need to say anything more than that? That's all the time we have for today. Thank you for joining us here on 10 Minute Drill.
