The latest in the Graham Platner hostage crisis and the food fight that's following from it. President Trump making major news at NATO on both Iran and Ukraine. And a new bombshell report about waste, fraud and abuse in the school system. All that and so much more today on 10 Minute Drew.
Audience/Chorus
Everybody get up. Get up.
President Trump
The story of America is the story of an adventure.
Senator Rubio
I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. We are a nation under God, and I believe God intended for us to be free.
Host
Late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, we heard reports that bombs had begun dropping again in Iran. US overnight attacks struck over 80 Iranian targets after Hormuz vessel incidents. Centcom says the US Central Command announced on 7th of July that it carried out attacks on more than 80 targets across Iran, saying the operation came in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. And now this all happens while President Trump is at NATO talking about all of these issues with other foreign leaders. And he was asked very specifically about the status of the ceasefire with Iran.
President Trump
To me, I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore. They're scum. You know what scum is? They're scum. They're sick people.
Host
President Trump has had enough with Iranian games and says the ceasefire is over. And. And he talked a little bit about how the last few weeks have gone.
President Trump
We said, go and do your funeral stuff, and instead of that, they start shooting rockets at chips yesterday. And so we hit them very hard last night.
Host
Now, I would note that the funeral stuff they're doing is for the ayatollah that was killed in the first round of attacks in Operation Epic Fury. And President Trump said they were giving them room to carry out the funeral processions and things like that. But at that same time, the IRGC was attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz. As we've talked about quite a bit here, the ceasefire has never actually involved anyone seizing fire, and President Trump has had enough of it.
President Trump
They're dealing with great people, but I don't know. I think they're a little loco. They're a little crazy, and we have to rid their cancer, their cancer. And you know what you do? You got to cut out cancer early. And that's the way I feel.
Host
President Trump has reached the end of his rope there, and he did give a lot of rope, and he got a lot of criticism back home for trying so many different ways to make the peace conversations work, even though Iran gave every signal that they were never acting in good faith in response to that. So we will see where this goes from here. But on another different note, at NATO, President Trump had very positive meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
I think that they are changing in any way because at the very beginning of full scale war, he was stronger. And I think he. He's losing initiative on the battle. I think his army. That's why I think that because of technologies.
Host
Now, what Zelenskyy is talking about, there is a shift we've been talking about a little bit, which is the fact that Russia is losing ground and Ukraine is going deeper and deeper, striking in Russia partially due to their superiority with drones, something they talked about quite a bit. But President Trump actually praised the conversations he had with Zelensky at this NATO summit. New Trump praises a NATO summit marked by unity and says he has developed a good relationship with Zelensky. Trump we'll see what we can do, but we've actually developed a good relationship. Now, President Trump throughout these conversations, maintained that his North Star in his role in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is simply to try and bring about peace and save lives.
President Trump
What I'm doing is I'm trying to save lives. A lot of lives are being lost.
Host
And a part of that is helping Ukraine get in a position to force Russia to come to the table. And one way that he's going to do that, that he announced, is allowing Ukraine to make their own Patriot missiles.
President Trump
So one of the things we're going to be talking about is you'll. We're going to give a license to you to make patriots. That's pretty cool, right?
Host
Secretary Rubio spoke specifically about the role that drones have played in changing the face of this war for Ukraine, that
Senator Rubio
Russians are finding it more difficult to defend their own airspace. And what we hope that means is that's going to create the space now to negotiate the end of this war.
Host
There was even a moment of levity when a reporter asked about a potential meeting. And President Trump turned to Zelensky and asked him if he'd be willing to meet in Moscow.
President Trump
I don't know that he'd go to Moscow. Maybe he would. Would you go to Moscow?
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
It's difficult. There are a lot of Ukrainian drones there. That's right.

Platner announced that he was ending his campaign for Senate in Maine. Now, I think he should have ended his campaign before he even started because he knew that he had raped women, had a Nazi tattoo, and I don't know what made him think running for Political office was a good idea. But after Politico reported that he had raped a former girlfriend on top of everything el we know about him, Democrats around the country called on him to drop out, not because he raped a woman, but because they saw he was no longer politically viable. Last night, he announced that he was going to acquiesce to their wishes. And so we're suspending campaign operations.
James Talarico
I want to make clear, though, I intend to file my paperwork to withdraw.
Host
But the last few days, a major food fight has been brewing about what happens in if he does drop out. On Tuesday night, the main Democrat Party released this video.
Maine Democratic Party Spokesperson
Unfortunately, Graham Platner's team has repeatedly reached out to us in an attempt to put their thumb on the scale of what this process looks like. We have repeatedly reiterated to Graham Platner's team that they have no role in determining our next Democratic nominee for the US Senate, nor in determining what this process looks like.
Host
Now, we can all agree how bizarre it is for Graham Platner, the person who lied to his party and and to the country about his past and the terrible things that he did for the last year, to now demand leverage in choosing his successor should he step aside. However, he's right in the fact that because of the laws of the main election system, he did have his party over a barrel once he won the Democrat primary. They can't simply replace him. He has to step down. But even the processes by which he would step down become a little bit of a Biden to Kamala Switcheroo 2.0, as we talked about a little bit yesterday. But that video from the main Democrat party ignited an even larger firestorm from people close to Graham Platner. Platner would have been out of this race if it was not for the incompetence and arrogance of the main Democratic Party, which put out an outrageous video last night basically saying, we have a secret plan to choose a nominee, but we're not going to tell you until he's out of the race. Now, I think we can all agree that it is a little bit absurd for anyone close to Graham Platner to be attacking anyone else as arrogant and incompetent after everything we've seen these last few months with their candidate. And it's also interesting that they want to dictate the process to be more transparent after everything they created with this mess in the state. And that continued yesterday with the Platner team sending this message out to their volunteers. This is Ben Chin, Graham Platner's campaign manager. We've said from the very beginning that this campaign was never about Graham, but about a movement of working people united to take back power. Now let me just interrupt there. This was not ever a movement about ideology. Graham Platner was a copy and paste candidate using New York DSA Democrat socialists talking points and nothing more than that. And he was a fake working class hero, as we've talked about exhaustively here. But yesterday the main Democratic Party said our movement will have no role in determining our next Democratic nominee for U.S. senate, nor in determining what this process looks like. Instead, under their watch and direction, they allowed the D.C. based Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to send staffers to plan a potential nominating process behind closed doors. Both the state and national parties cut our team, our volunteers and our vast networks of supporters out of the conversation completely. Now this is a little bit hilarious because earlier in the day we saw reports that the Platner campaign strategy team had flown in from New York to have these meetings. So you've got these New York based Democrat socialist consultants who as we've detailed, failed every part of the process here now in a sort of shadow boxing fight with the D.C. based Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee and Chuck Schumer's team about who is less tied to the people of Maine. And I think that is hilarious. This will continue to be ugly. And the last point that I wanna make here is this does not end for Democrats with Graham Platner being replaced. The brand is destroyed. You win elections in Maine by winning over moderates and independents, by convincing them that you are the safest, best, most normal choice. That ship has sailed for any Democrat. And Susan Collins is going to win this race and I predict she's going to win by more than the nine points that she won in 2020. Now, we talked on our Monday episode about a CNN interview where Abdul Al Said attacked a CNN reporter for pressing him on deleting tweets about defund. Well, CNN's own K file and Andrew Kaczynski, one of the best investigative reporters into campaign issues around the country, posted this. Abdul Al Said has insisted he never, never called for defunding police and Said deleted tweets were taken out of context. But new audio shows that in 2020 he defended the idea in interviews saying, I believe that we do need to defund the police.
Abdul Al Said
I believe that we do need to defund the police insofar as defunding the police is disinvesting in the means of incarcerating someone or killing them on the street.
Host
So when you Hear Abdul there talking about defunding the police. It's easy to see why. Now, six years later, pressed on this same network, he tried to completely deflect and say those aren't really good questions.
Abdul Al Said
You know, why did you delete the tweets across the 100? And I deleted all the tweets because I didn't want them to be taken out of context like this so that you could distract from the actual conversation that Michiganders really want to have.
Host
What's important to note is in that CNN interview that happened just last week, he did not say he will fund the police. So this remains an issue because as Abdul does, he wants to tell you that your questions are wrong so that you will forget the fact that he didn't actually answer it. They also had a debate in Michigan and one of the notes that came out of this was his view about taxes for seniors.
Abdul Al Said
I think we need to be freezing property tax for seniors. If you paid off your home at some point, we can't expect you to keep up with property taxes that are going up now.
Host
That is an interesting policy position. Freeze property taxes on seniors. Seniors are overwhelmingly the wealthiest demographic and giving them a tax handout like this is one terrible for your plans. If you're a socialist who wants to increase services and free stuff, but you're cutting out one of the most important ways to pay for it. But it also is a reminder that Abdul's support is primarily focused among 18 to 30 year old radical Democrat socialists. And so he needs to find a carrot for for seniors to jump onto. It's a terrible policy, but he's not a very serious person. Highlighted by this last thing we wanted to show that I thought was hilarious. He went on an interview with Mehdi Hasan, who is a terror sympathizing radical for what he thought would be a really friendly conversation. And they got into one really sticky point.
Mehdi Hasan
You got attacked by your rivals for calling yourself a physician, not just a doctor, even though you don't have a valid state medical license in New York or Michigan, which apparently is what you need legally to call yourself a physician. Do you wish you just stuck to calling yourself a doctor, which you are, to avoid all of this controversy and attacks on your physician status?
President Trump
You know, at the end of the
Abdul Al Said
day, it's not about whether or not I'm a physician or a doctor. The question is, can you see a doctor? It's not about my education, it's about whether or not your kid gets good at education. So I'm just not stepping on That's a good line.
Mehdi Hasan
But people would say it's also about, did you tell the truth?
Host
Oh, shoot. Mehdi Hasan would lay across train tracks to get Abdul elected. But he just created some incredible tape here. Now note again what Abdul did there. It's not about. It's sort of the Jedi mind trick. It's not about whether I'm a doctor. It's not about whether. It's about whether you lied about every part of your background and why anyone should trust you to do the things that you say you're going to do. And I will say it does matter if you tell people you're a physician and you're actually not. It's a, what I call the Joe Biden problem. If you're on an airplane and someone says, is there a doctor on board? And Joe Biden says, I'm here, same thing with Abdul. If he says I'm on board and he's not actually a physician, he's been lying about it, that's a pretty big problem. And I think voters similarly are going to feel uncomfortable about the amount of lies they've been fed by this guy. You may have noticed we had a pretty full episode yesterday, so we did not do our normal waste Wednesday. So we're picking it up today. A bombshell report from the State Financial Officers Foundation. $230 million stolen from America's school kids. Embezzlement, ghost students, fake invoices, kickbacks. State Financial Officers foundation and Open the Books just dropped a bombshell. Nearly 90 cases of K through 12 education fraud exposed. Kids first, no more stolen futures. And as you take a look at that report, schooled by schemers, fake tutoring, fraud, embezzling, bid rigging, fraud, waste, and the money that never reached kids. Now, in this report, the State Financial Officers foundation outlined so many different ways school districts around the country have defrauded taxpayers by creating fake schemes to get taxpayer dollars to them. We have talked before about the education establishment in this country and how outrageous it is, whether it's the federal Department of Education or school districts like this, where the more money we seem to spend, the performance still seems to go down. And it makes a lot of sense when you read reports like this and see the scale of this waste, fraud and abuse. And it reminds me so much of what we talk about with health care waste, fraud and abuse in health care. The fact that Democrats will say we're not spending enough on health care every time we cut waste, fraud and abuse, they say thousands of people are going to die when at the Same time, we're seeing tens of billions of dollars in fraud around the country. Read the state financial officers report when you have a second. It is incredibly well researched and well done for you can't make it up segment today, we go back to James Talarico. Now, as we've talked about, James Talarico's mission right now is to somehow convince the people of Texas he's normal and he's just like them. That's why they put a flannel shirt on him, put him on the back of a truck and drive him around trying to eat barbecue, even though every bite he takes of normal meat and food looks like he's sort of, you know, having a foreign experience. A new story from Fox News, Senate hopeful says Texas, home to the best drag queens in the nation. In resurfaced comments in this article, there's a great quote from James. I think Texas is obviously the best state in the nation and I think we produce some of the best drag queens in the nation. And I didn't want any legislation to target them or hurt that industry. Just be normal, James. And he also had this video.
James Talarico
I celebrated my 30th birthday with a pink scarf around my neck.
Host
Pink scarfs to celebrate Texas's great rich history of drag queens, which I hope he continues talking about. But it doesn't end there. Here's a video of him talking about the effort to protect children from permanent gender mutilation surgeries.
James Talarico
You saw it in the anti LGBTQ legislation, including the bill that would have denied gender affirming health care to trans children. And then of course, famously, infamously, we saw it last session with the most extreme abortion ban in the country. All of these, all these ideologies stem from this, this Christofascism movement, Christo fascism movement.
Host
We have highlighted polling on 10 Minute Drill that highlights the fact that about 75% of the country believe it is important to ban these permanent gender mutilation surgeries, trans surgeries for minors under the age of 18 because they don't know what they want in life. But James Talarico calls it Christo fascism. Good luck again running for Senate in Texas. That is all the time we have for today. Thank you so much for joining us. Please leave us a comment, leave us a review. Leave us a five star rating. Tell your friends and have a great rest of your Thursday.
