In yesterday's recap episode, we went through the State of the Union quite thoroughly. The triumphs, the policy points. Today. I just wanted to highlight a few of the narratives that are going to continue from the speech this week into the midterms. The contrast that President Trump hopes to drive, and we talked about some of those already, the fact that Abby Spanberger giving the Democrat response was an incredibly valuable picture for voters to see of what happens if Democrats are in charge, contrasted to President Trump and his vision and laying out a positive agenda on things that people actually care about. And I think that in the day after the State of the Union address, a lot of the media coverage, the analysis and the polling painted an even clearer picture of how some of these narratives are setting in. And so I wanted to get into some of those today by doing things like bringing out the Olympic team and cheering for heroes from the military, heroes from around the country. On different issues, President Trump wrapped himself in triumphalism, which was a stark contrast to the scowling Democrats that, as we talked about in yesterday's recap episode, refused to stand for so many pointed issues, whether it was standing for the mother of slain Irina Zarutska. But most pointedly, the thing that's gotten some of the most coverage and analysis since this was President Trump's specific challenge on standing with American citizens versus illegal immigrants.
President Trump (1:51)
The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.

That contrast was a theme in the 2024 election against Joe Biden. The fact that President Trump was running on securing our border and deporting dangerous criminal illegal immigrants, while Joe Biden was the one who opened the border in the first place. President Trump was intentional about reminding people what Joe Biden left behind in 2024 and the fact that the Democrats in the room for that speech, speech voted for all the policies that Joe Biden pushed that drove us to the affordability crisis that was significantly worse before President Trump got in office. The other key contrast that I wanted to get into was President Trump's focus on investing in you, the American people. He talked about things like expanded retirement accounts for people who don't have 401ks through their jobs, paired with things like Trump accounts for babies and children to start investing in their future, contrasted with a very thorough block in which he discussed things like Minnesota's massive $9 billion Somali fraud scandal. And he puts the question to voters, who would you rather your government be investing in you, the American taxpayer, or Somali fraud schemes or various fraud schemes in blue states around the country that happen to constantly be tied to different Democrat interest groups and voting blocs? But the last underlying contrast that I think was most valuable didn't even happen in the room. It was the fact that while President Trump was was laying out a positive agenda and most people did feel like his speech was very positive. Democrats, meanwhile, were carrying out all sorts of crazy sideshow antics because they don't know who they are. They were dancing with inflatable frogs. They were meeting with Robert De Niro, who had no positive conversation about the country. Simply diatribes about how President Trump is an evil person. That contrast of sane and focused on you versus crazy and pandering to dangerous lunatics is a contrast that President Trump and Republicans will drive going into the future. And part of the polling that we saw immediately after the speech already addressed some of how President Trump was able to accomplish that. This from cnn.
