In yesterday's recap episode, we went through the State of the Union quite thoroughly. The triumphs, the policy points. Today. I just wanted to highlight a few of the narratives that are going to continue from the speech this week into the midterms. The contrast that President Trump hopes to drive, and we talked about some of those already, the fact that Abby Spanberger giving the Democrat response was an incredibly valuable picture for voters to see of what happens if Democrats are in charge, contrasted to President Trump and his vision and laying out a positive agenda on things that people actually care about. And I think that in the day after the State of the Union address, a lot of the media coverage, the analysis and the polling painted an even clearer picture of how some of these narratives are setting in. And so I wanted to get into some of those today by doing things like bringing out the Olympic team and cheering for heroes from the military, heroes from around the country. On different issues, President Trump wrapped himself in triumphalism, which was a stark contrast to the scowling Democrats that, as we talked about in yesterday's recap episode, refused to stand for so many pointed issues, whether it was standing for the mother of slain Irina Zarutska. But most pointedly, the thing that's gotten some of the most coverage and analysis since this was President Trump's specific challenge on standing with American citizens versus illegal immigrants.
President Trump
The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.
Host
That contrast was a theme in the 2024 election against Joe Biden. The fact that President Trump was running on securing our border and deporting dangerous criminal illegal immigrants, while Joe Biden was the one who opened the border in the first place. President Trump was intentional about reminding people what Joe Biden left behind in 2024 and the fact that the Democrats in the room for that speech, speech voted for all the policies that Joe Biden pushed that drove us to the affordability crisis that was significantly worse before President Trump got in office. The other key contrast that I wanted to get into was President Trump's focus on investing in you, the American people. He talked about things like expanded retirement accounts for people who don't have 401ks through their jobs, paired with things like Trump accounts for babies and children to start investing in their future, contrasted with a very thorough block in which he discussed things like Minnesota's massive $9 billion Somali fraud scandal. And he puts the question to voters, who would you rather your government be investing in you, the American taxpayer, or Somali fraud schemes or various fraud schemes in blue states around the country that happen to constantly be tied to different Democrat interest groups and voting blocs? But the last underlying contrast that I think was most valuable didn't even happen in the room. It was the fact that while President Trump was was laying out a positive agenda and most people did feel like his speech was very positive. Democrats, meanwhile, were carrying out all sorts of crazy sideshow antics because they don't know who they are. They were dancing with inflatable frogs. They were meeting with Robert De Niro, who had no positive conversation about the country. Simply diatribes about how President Trump is an evil person. That contrast of sane and focused on you versus crazy and pandering to dangerous lunatics is a contrast that President Trump and Republicans will drive going into the future. And part of the polling that we saw immediately after the speech already addressed some of how President Trump was able to accomplish that. This from cnn.

We go to the results of our instant poll. Get this reaction from those that watch the speech tonight. 38% said they had a very positive reaction to the speech. 25% said somewhat positive, 36% negative. So roughly 2/3 in the positive territory, 1/3 negative.
Host
Among speechwatchers, that is a very striking number to have a majority of speech watchers feeling like this is moving the country in the right direction. And it has to do with the fact that President Trump focused on so many 80, 20 issues. We talked about a lot of them last night. One other one that I thought was really notable was his focus on things like commercial driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.
President Trump
That's why tonight I'm calling on Congress to pass what we will call the Delilah Law, barring any state from granting commercial driver's licenses to illegal aliens.

One thing I love in post State of the Union addresses, post presidential debate, media coverage, things like that is the focus groups and the conversations they have with normal voters. This with a Michigan voter, I thought, really captured the essence of the night.
Michigan Voter
His point is valid. Everybody in that room represents the citizens in this country and are you doing your job? He should, you know, the governor ask, is Trump doing his job? Trump ask, are all of you doing your job?

As we talked about, one of the most triumphant moments of the State of the Union address was when President Trump invited the gold medal hockey team out for, for the entire room to stand and cheer for them. Now, as President Trump noted, not every single person stood there and perhaps the small segment of people who weren't standing represent this sort of coordinated effort between political activists on the left and many in the media to carry out character assassination against this gold medal hockey team. Now, one thing that happened right after their win that you might not have heard about is as they were celebrating in the locker room, they had a call from President Trump who praised them, praised their win and joked to them, if I invite you to the White House in the State of the Union, I'm also going to have to invite the women's team. And he praised them and he was obviously being tongue in cheek. And some of the players in the room laughed along. And many of the media on the left have seized on this to say that these hockey players are misogynist and they're aligning with President Trump and his MAGA agenda in part because they're simply left wing scolds. And here's been some of the media coverage of them and, and how President Trump has celebrated that.
CNN Anchor
This was Donald Trump saying, hey, look, we got a party going. Look at these people. You like hockey, you like the military. Everybody tells me we're hot, we're hot, we're hot, we're hot. No, you're not. We can see behind you. You're standing in front of this empty room and a lot of people like hockey and of course, saluting our soldiers. But you don't get to just steal that when you're at 36% and the country's waiting for solutions.
Critic of Men's Hockey Team
I hope that, that when the men's U.S. hockey team issues their official apology, I hope that nobody forgives them. I hope that everybody tells them to pound sand.
Critic of President Trump
The president again, acting like a child and taking advantage of one of the most important moments of these players lives and our state's opportunity on the world stage. He should know better and he doesn't.

One tweet that went viral on this theme, this from Jerry Brewer, a senior columnist with the Athletic. The U.S. men's hockey team won gold and then lost the room. A column on fragile, fleeting unity and an historic team that let its moment drift into political manipulation. Now, what you need to understand here is the left does not like anything being tied to President Trump at all, unless it is criticizing, attacking, and calling him un American. You'll remember during the Australian Open, every member of the American media that traveled all the way to Australia was only there to try and get the American athletes to criticize President Trump and ice. It's very surprising, but there are few parts of the media that are more left wing than sports columnists. And that's what we're seeing in this. The men's hockey team has done everything right. They have praised the women's team. They were a part of their training. They were there to support them. And I think the members of the women's team would say the men's hockey team has been very supportive of them. So it's really discouraging to see the left and the media try and destroy these great triumphant heroes who did something so valuable, but also have spent their time since then showing they are great guys, they're great examples of America to the world, and they're the kind of people that we should want our kids to look up to and see if I work hard, I can do that and be a good guy. One of the underlying themes of President Trump's speech was America's leadership in the world. And one topic that he brought up is Iran.
President Trump
I will never allow the world's number one sponsor of terror, which they are by far, to have a nuclear weapon. Can't let that happen.
Host
Later today, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, President Trump's emissaries, are meeting in Geneva for the latest peace talks. One dynamic behind the scenes that's been a challenge here is while President Trump has talked about what wanting to support the protesters in his speech, he talked about how they've put pressure on the regime to stop murdering protesters. But there's also the challenge of what happens if the regime is removed. What happens if you cut the head off the snake? There will be challenges there. And that's what his military leaders are trying to strategize as they both negotiate an end to the nuclear program, an end to the Iranian nuclear threat, but also what happens with leadership in that area. And the other Middle Eastern countries are also similarly concerned about this. So President Trump's trying to find the best possible medium in that as he continues to ratchet up pressure. One thing we talk about quite a bit on 10 minute drill is the role of politics in corporate America and the fact that conservatives for the last several years haven't been trying to make corporate America more conservative. They've just been trying to make corporate America less political. One piece of that conversation has been big banks and debanking. We've talked about JPMorgan Chase, one of the biggest banks in the world, how they used in the past their power to take away banking access to people, whether it was religious liberty organizations, gun manufacturers, or in one of the highest profile cases, President Trump and his family. Last week they finally acknowledged that they went out of their way to debank President Trump to take away his access to banking. In the wake of January 6th, this is particularly notable as Jamie Dimon and the big banks are trying to pressure the Trump administration to allow new hidden fees on every digital financial transaction you make. The Trump administration is taking this very seriously because the threat of debanking can hurt anybody. And President Trump was able to get his bank accounts back online because he is a prominent figure. But for many people who have had political weaponization against them with debanking, it's a huge problem. But as we have this conversation, a number of Democrat operatives are already talking about what they want to try and push corporate America to do if they get back in power. This from Susan Rice.
Susan Rice
It's not going to end well for them if these corporations think that the Democrats, when they come back in power, are going to play by the old rules and say, oh, never mind, we'll forgive you for all the people you fired, all the policies and principles you've violated, the laws you've skirted. I think they've got another thing coming. There will be an accountability agenda.
Host
Susan Rice is saying the quiet part out loud there. If Democrats get back in power, they're going to punish corporations that don't bow to pressure campaigns from Democrats to carry out their political agendas. Now, one thing that a lot of corporate America has done in the last couple years is try and put their customers ahead of political agendas on things like net zero, climate change, things that actually hurt their business and hurt their customers, but make left wing interest groups happy. Susan Rice is saying if we get power again, the woke Corporate America is back for you can't make it up segment today. We want to pay tribute to the incredible cameramen in the State of the Union address and the fact that they were very intentional about who they highlighted during different themes. For example, this state of the union
