This is the morning meeting on the two way platform brought to you by lots of people. Thank you for being here. Dan, Sean and I will walk you through the day and the style of the network news division's morning meetings. Tell you what's coming up during the day, lay it all out for you, comment on it, maybe have some friendly disagreements and then we'll take your questions. If you're here on the two way platform, raise your hand. We've had lots of new people already this week. Who knows what's in store. But raise your hand if you want to be part of the conversation. We have lots to talk about. And then as always, if you're watching on X or YouTube, thank you for being part of the two way experience. As it says on my sleeve, don't put smack in the chat. And now big news for everybody. Our friends at Fairway and Green now have up on the website women's sizes and our slogans, our catchphrases, our little idiomatic expressions. You can get phrases like don't put smack in the chat. Here's one of my favorite items. There we see right there. No smack in the chat. I have it on here. You can get conversations like no other. Dan, Sean, what else is available?
Dan M. Spicer
Oh, you got peace, love and understanding.
Mark Halperin
Peace, love and understanding. Dynamite, I think. Anyway, Sean, if people are interested in buying some of the merchandise, where do they go?
Sean Spicer
Well, Mark, I'm glad you asked. You can go to two way tv. That's two, the numeral two way tv Fairway. But Mark, there's more for all of our loyal viewers. They can enter the code. That's code two way 20. Two way 20. And it stands for 20 because that's right, Mark. You can get 20% off anything site wide. That's anything, anything that says two way, anything that says morning meeting or any of the other apparel that's so comfortable, great, stylish and long lasting at Fairway and green. That's two Way TV fairway.
Mark Halperin
Thank you, Vanna. In all seriousness, thank you all. Many of you have already purchased stuff. Help us out, buy it and help yourself out. It's the nicest golf apparel I've ever worn, by far. And just, it's beautiful stuff. It's so well made and that's why we wear it almost every day.
Sean Spicer
By the way, you can, you can be like me, own more golf shirts than you've ever golfed around. That's fine.
Mark Halperin
Anyway, again, go to. Go to Twoway TV Fairway and you'll see the link to buy whatever you wish, men and women's sizes, as well as the slogan stuff now available.
Sean Spicer
Hi, I'm Anthony Scaramucci and I'd like to tell you about my new show, Lost Boys. It's a limited edition series. It's hosted by myself and Professor Scott Galloway. We're having honest conversations about a topic no one wants to talk about. The crisis that young men are facing nowadays. Our talks discuss why so many young men are struggling to find purpose, connection and identity in today's world. We dig into what's really going on. Politics, culture, loneliness, even rage. And what we can do to help change the narrative. This is a six part series that will challenge your assumptions and encourage you to continue the conversation from the dinner table to the office. Follow and listen to Lost Boys on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also go to Lostboys Men and sign up to get the latest episodes and news.
Mark Halperin
All right, the day book. Well, actually, first, again, I don't read the chat, but I do glance at it. Yes, I look like crap today. Why? Because I was up till midnight reading about or watching Jimmy Kimmel. Dan, were you up at midnight?
Dan M. Spicer
No, I watched the. I watched it on YouTube this morning.
Mark Halperin
All right, Sean, were you up at midnight?
Sean Spicer
I mean, the only time I get up that hour is if I'm going to the bathroom. I've been in bed for two and a half hours.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, so I stayed up and I didn't know about the De Niro thing. I assumed there'd be something, but again, I appreciate all the people writing in the chat, how bad I look. Conceded, just stipulated. I look like crap.
Sean Spicer
Not only can I not stay up, but we are. DC is a Sinclair station, so I wouldn't have been able to see it anym.
Mark Halperin
You don't have Tunnel Bear, you need tunnel.
Dan M. Spicer
Where there's a will, there's a way.
Mark Halperin
You need Tunnel Bear, Sean.
Sean Spicer
Anyway. Anyway, I've got rabbit ears.
Mark Halperin
I turn the channels while I run through the daybook. Guys, I want you to think about the answer to this question. Are we. Do we need to show Kimmel highlights to our audience or anybody who wants to see it, Seen it?
Sean Spicer
Oh, I think we need to see it.
Mark Halperin
All right. See, I see a lot of people saying. A lot of people saying no. A lot of people saying no. All right, go in the chat while I read the daybook and just say yes or no. You need to see highlights. Dan, watch the chat for me. I see a lot of no so far. Here we go. The president. Not much today. Intelligence briefing at 1. There's the pool, folks in the pool. And then the Rose Garden Club dinner. Sean, any idea who's on the guest list for tonight's Rose Garden Club dinner? Oh, and do you know?
Sean Spicer
No, I, I don't. I, I'm going to guess some members of Congress because that's. Yeah, I, I do have some insight into. Well, I, I know members of Congress, but.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. Okay. Anyway, so we may not see the president today. He's yet to weigh in on Kimmel since the, Since. Since the episode aired. So we'll see if he does that. Maybe even during this hour. The vice president is in North Carolina today. Lexington. And then he's going to Concord, just like in Massachusetts. Apparently, they have both Lexington and Concord south of Mason Dixon line, speaking at a RNC fundraiser.
Sean Spicer
Just to be clear, in Massachusetts, it's Concord.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, it is.
Sean Spicer
And in North Carolina, where the racetrack is, they're very specific there to its Concord.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. Okay, then Chuck Schumer's on Morning Joe right now. Let's dip into that just for fun.
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah. By the way, no one wants Kimmel.
Mark Halperin
Okay, good. Saves us some time.
Sean Spicer
No Kimmel. But I have to hear Chuck Schumer.
Mark Halperin
Shot and killed over the summer. And of course, Charlie Kirk just a few weeks ago.
Sean Spicer
What would be helpful in terms of.
Hakeem Jeffries
Rhetoric from the top? A note of unity. Yeah, look, it has to come from the top. And like on so many other things, Donald Trump is deficient in this. Totally deficient. The day after Charlie Kirk, instead of just bringing Americans together to mourn. And let's forget politics. Ronald Reagan would have done just that. He would have brought together and mourned. Donald Trump's busy pointing fingers before he even had evidence. That doesn't help.
Sean Spicer
Let's talk about what's happening on the Hill. It looks like we may not much moving toward a government shutdown. Can that be averted?
Hakeem Jeffries
I hope it can we? Democrats definitely want to avert a shutdown. We know how bad it is. And we're asking something very simple, Joe, for the president to sit down and talk with us. You know, he's not the king. He can't just dictate what happened. He said he doesn't need Democrats. Well, then he doesn't know how to count because there are 60 votes in the Senate that you need to pass this and he's got 53. And frankly, when I was majority leader for four years, the last four, we didn't have a shutdown.
Mark Halperin
Why?
Hakeem Jeffries
Because I sat down and talked with Republicans and we compromised. No one got everything they wanted. Donald Trump is the first president. We're having a shutdown. As you saw, Hakeem Jeffries and I just made a simple, easy request. Sit down and talk to us. We can probably come to some agreements. There are a lot of people on his side who are upset about what's happening on some of the areas of health care, particularly the aca, but others as well.
Mark Halperin
All right, we'll keep watching this, watching our colleagues will let us know if we need to dip back in or if he says anything super newsworthy. In any event, the Congress is out this week. A lot of them are in New York, including some in New York for the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting always occurs around una. President Clinton is giving a speech later today. Gavin Newsome is there, as he's been in the past. Vice President Harris also in New York. I don't know if she's going to cgi, but she's sitting down with our friend Aaron Parnass tonight at town hall. 5:30 right before two way tonight and then another town hall discussion at 8 o'. Clock. And during our half hour or hour here, Ukrainian President Zelensky is addressing the United Nations General Assembly. So we might dip into that as well. There's been a shooting in an ice facility in Dallas. At least two detainees have been shot. And we'll, we'll, I believe it's three.
Dan M. Spicer
And the gunman.
Sean Spicer
There's the gunman head. So it would make it poor.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. All right. I'm just going based on CNN says two foxes three. Anyway, we'll continue to follow that. So, Dan, we're not showing Kimmel highlights, right? We're just going to talk.
Dan M. Spicer
Well, if, if the, if the community is the decider, then those in our.
Mark Halperin
All right, if you're interested in Kimmel, go online because you can watch them all. Just show you a few things in reaction to Kimmel. Here is number 110, please. So one of the most important people in Charlie Kirk's professional life and the person on his team I know best is this is his producer. He's more than his producer. He's also the spokesman. Andrew Colvin is a, is a spokesman for Turning Point. He was Charlie's producer. He's a regular. Was a regular on the show. Here's what he tweeted in reaction to Jimmy Kimmel. Not good enough. Jimmy, it's simple. Here's what you need to say. Quote, I'm sorry for saying the shooter was maga. He was not. He was of the left. I apologize to the Kirk family for lying. Please accept my sincere apology. I will do better. I was wrong. Now, the two station owners, Sinclair, nexstar, haven't made clear if they're going to continue to boycott the show, but it appears that. And we'll see what President Trump says. But it appears that Kimmel's just back on the air now and we'll start doing regular shows again and that's that. At least it would. So it would appear. Sean, what are the next two shoes to drop in the Kimmel matter?
Sean Spicer
Well, first I just want to say with respect to the shooting that's ongoing, it'll be interesting how many Democrats denounce the shooting of ICE agents, the violence that they love to, quote, say that they denounce. It'll be interesting if that extends to shooting up ICE facilities, violence against ICE facilities. As I've said the other day. It seems, though, that that's the water's edge that they stop at. I would say one of the things that I tweeted out this earlier, what Kimmel did last night was reinforce the lines. He didn't apologize. I tweeted this out that there are two types of apologies. There's the real ones where you say, I'm sorry, I made a mistake. I asked for forgiveness. Exactly what Andrew said in that tweet. And the second are the weasel ones. And the weasel ones were where I'm sorry if you're offended. And that's what Jimmy did last night. And if you look at the reaction of almost not just everyone on maga, but even people like Peter Meyer, who is no friend of Donald Trump, voted to impeach him, went on CNN last night and said that was, you know, that was outrageous what he did.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, Dan, What, Dan, what are the next two shoes to drop in the, in the Kimmel story?
Dan M. Spicer
I think watch advertisers and watch, you know, Disney's pending business and I'll add a third. Jimmy Kimmel's contract negotiations.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. Although those things, I think it's, those things are longer term. What's going to happen, like immediately.
Dan M. Spicer
Well, no, but I mean, I, I, they're longer term, but those don't happen slow. I mean, they, they, what are the.
Mark Halperin
Next tooth shoes to drop like this week? Are there any shoes dropping this week or we're just waiting for these industry.
Sean Spicer
I mean, I think the President's gonna react and whatever. But, but that's an obvious one.
Mark Halperin
I mean, do we think, do we think the chairman of the FCC is going to stay silent or. Yes.
Dan M. Spicer
Yes.
Mark Halperin
Okay.
Sean Spicer
Yeah.
Dan M. Spicer
I think that everyone, but I will.
Sean Spicer
Say this, the thing between, first of all, to Dan, I don't, I mean, I think ABC made a decision for a reason. I think advertisers knew what they were getting into. But this is more of the, this is why I'm saying the short term shoe to drop is this is going to reinforce everything that we on the, on the right believe is the problem, that this was just a quick, let's just push this aside. There are more people outraged about Jimmy Kimmel being suspended than there are about Charlie Kirk being assassinated. And the battle lines are drawn right now.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. All right, let's move on. We can talk about this if people want to talk about it. Raise your hand if you're here in the platform. Want to get in on the conversation. Present remarkable truth. Social post yesterday on Russia and Ukraine saying the Ukrainians should try to win the war, that Europe, the US And Europe will help with that and that Russia is a paper tiger. Here's some of the reactions since then. Here's The Russian said 111, please. The Russian reaction was didn't love it. I'd say in Moscow. Didn't love it. Reuters. Russia says it's advancing in Ukraine and its economy is stable after Trump calls it, quote, a paper tiger. And here's a quote to the BBC, which Sean calls the bib. From, from the Russian Kremlin spokesperson Moscow gave Donald Trump's apology, gave Donald Trump a zoology lesson Wednesday, insisting that Russia is, quote, a bear and not a paper tiger. On the geopolitical stage, here's the quote from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to the BBC. Quote, russia is by no means a tiger. Russia is traditionally seen as a bear. There's no such thing as paper bears. Russia is a real bear. Sounds like a great children's story. And here is the President's former national security advisor, freshly minted UN Ambassador Former Congressman Mike Waltz on Fox and Friends explaining the president's change of rhetoric. 112, please.
Sean Spicer
Well, I think you're seeing the president's frustration and disappointment, frankly, with Putin. He has made innumerable calls. We had the summits in Saudi Arabia, in Turkey, in Alaska, obviously. And look at the at the end of the day, Putin has to end this war. The president has made it very clear that his intent and what you're seeing now is you're seeing with the president's urging, you're seeing Europe increasingly stepping up. They're now committing 5% of their GDP, which for years it was not only it wasn't even just half, it was just a third that was meeting the bare minimum of 2%. So they're stepping up, they're buying our weapons, they're taking more responsibility for their security. And eventually, one way or another, Putin's going to going to get the message. And one other point, Brian, that I think is that we have to hammer and the president hammered home in his speech yesterday, Europe can't be buying Russian oil and gas at the same time. They're demanding help to fight this war and that has to stop. And do you also believe we have to lift?
Mark Halperin
All right. And here's a ravish review from a former secretary of state and presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton appearing on Morning Joe. Please play number 113.
Sean Spicer
Well, I have to say, Joe, I welcomed what the president said yesterday. I thought that given all the back and forth that we have seen and heard at Anchorage and elsewhere, his coming to grips with the fact that Vladimir Putin does not respond to any kind of rhetoric. He only responds to strength. And you have to show strength. You have to back strength.
Chuck Long
You have to be strong in order.
Sean Spicer
To deal with him. And he poses a clear and present danger to all of Europe and therefore to the United States. And I think if what President Trump said yesterday is if we help Ukraine, Ukraine can hold the line and may even be able to push Russia back. And there was a very interesting comment that Trump made in his true social post. He said, you know, what kind of military does Russia have? They couldn't even take over Ukraine. This has been a point I've been trying to make now for a long time. We overestimated Russia's military strength.
Mark Halperin
So I love journalistic cliches, so I'll use one here. The president's truth social post in some ways raised more questions than it answered. Where's the sanctions bill? What kind of military aid? What kind of role will the US Play in dealing with Europe. And some are speculating that this is just simply a verbiage meant to try once again to get Putin to the negotiating table. So, Dan, where, where, where does the world stand in facing down Putin in the wake of the President's words on social media?
Dan M. Spicer
First off, I love Hillary Clinton. God, she would have been a great president. Mark, I think you just said it. Everyone's now curious, what does Donald Trump really think? I mean, he says so many things, but then he doesn't back it up. So is he now really all in? Are we going to truly start pushing arms to Europe? I know he doesn't want to directly give them to the Ukrainians. So are we going to give them a discount to Europe to buy them, to send them to Ukraine? Are we going to authorize strikes into Russia? Like, how much are we all in to defeat Putin? Because Otherwise, Hillary is 100% right. Putin has no respect for words, only action.
Mark Halperin
Sean, this is, you know, the President tweets and tweets and posts on truth, all sorts of things. You know, for a decade, I found that to be one of the most extraordinary statements to go from, you know, threatening to give up on Ukraine to being more bullish on their chances of winning than Joe Biden was. So what do you think accounts for what the President did? And again, where do you think we're headed next?
Sean Spicer
I think what accounts for. I mean, I've been saying this consistently, that he says it very openly. He really thought that his relationship with Putin would be instrumental in, in solving this, and that's why he was willing to meet him somewhere, I think, realistically, which is what we've talked about, which is you'll get some land, which is probably more than, you know, than you've ever been. But that's a realistic end game. And I think reasonable people thought that actually that would be a win and it would have been a massive win for Russia, historically laying out some precedent that you can attack a sovereign nation, take their land, and walk away. So I think the President rightly thought that his relationship with Putin would yield some outcome that would have benefited him. And I think he, by taking it too far. Especially the comment that we didn't play yet is when he was asked point blank, should NATO countries that whose airspace, etc. Is infringed upon retaliate? And he said, absolutely. So it's, it's actually he's going farther than that, and I think he's been pushed too far. He's been proven that, that Putin doesn't want a deal and of any kind, frankly. And that I, I also give, I will say Zelinsky and the Europeans have played this a lot smarter than they did initially where they've allowed to say we'll play it your way, we'll allow you to develop your relationship and at some point we're going to make, you know, you kind of come to the light instead of us forcing you to that. And the president has gotten there yet. So. Yeah.
Mark Halperin
Dan first and Sean, rank these three things in order of likelihood from most likely to least likely. There's a, there's a peace negotiations between Putin and Zelensky with whether Trump's there or not. There's a peace face to face peace negotiations. Two, the sanctions bill passes in the Senate, secondary sanctions against India and China. Or three, there's a US Backed broad military offensive on the part of Ukraine trying to retake land.
Sean Spicer
Can I add a fourth?
Mark Halperin
Sure.
Sean Spicer
I think that what the president has said and frankly I agree and I think most is that Europe, we can't be the ones that do this alone. If we do it and Europe keeps buying gas and oil from them, then it's kind of pointless. So.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. So what's the fourth?
Sean Spicer
The fourth is that Europe shows that they'll actually step up to the plate and stop funding.
Mark Halperin
Okay. So European, none of that will happen without that. Okay. So European energy cutoff of Russia, Senate sanctions bill, peace negotiations, broad offensive backed by the U.S. dan, most to leave, most likely to least likely.
Dan M. Spicer
They're all not going to happen.
Mark Halperin
They're all equally not happening.
Dan M. Spicer
Correct, Sean?
Mark Halperin
Sean?
Sean Spicer
I think so. Russia. Because if nothing happens, if Russia, I mean, excuse me, if Europe doesn't cut off Russia, nothing else happens. So that has to go first by definition. Second, either sanctions, Senate sanctions or administration sanctions is too.
Mark Halperin
And the other two are not okay, throw up Fox, please. Our friend Trisha McLaughlin, the spokesperson for Homeland Security is on talking about the shooting in Dallas. So let's listen a bit of that, please. And we hope that's not today that this must stop. And I do have to know almost a month to the date at this Dallas ICE field office, we actually had a bomb threat there, a viable bomb threat. So we know that there has been really out of control rhetoric and threats against them.
Michelle
And please join us in praying.
Sean Spicer
Trish, we take your message to heart. Thank you for that. Let's try and work through it piece by piece here. Can you confirm that this gunman fired from the rooftop first?
Dan M. Spicer
Let's start there.
Mark Halperin
I'm sorry, I Think we're having a little bit of an audio issue, if.
Michelle
You want my repeating that.
Sean Spicer
Yeah, no problem. Can you confirm that the gunshots came from a rooftop nearby, and if so, at what distance?
Michelle
That's what we're looking at right now, Bill. I cannot confirm what distance, but as.
Mark Halperin
Soon as we have that information available.
Michelle
We will bring it to you.
Sean Spicer
So let me try another one here. Our sources out of Dallas and the police department department down there is saying no law enforcement officials injured. I think that's what you said a moment ago. Three shot, two dead. The victims were being led into the building to be processed to be repatriated. I would assume that is people that ICE has picked up either on the streets of Dallas or somewhere in the state of Texas.
Mark Halperin
We know our ICE law enforcement was not injured, but we're not sure about local security and other local law enforcement. That looks like there may have potentially been injuries there. But I can confirm that it looks like the detainees were among the victims.
Sean Spicer
Awkward question. How do you determine who was the target of these bullets? Was it the ICE agents or the detainees?
Mark Halperin
Either way, it's monstrous. But I think that we, you know.
Michelle
This is something that Homeland Security Investigations.
Mark Halperin
Is going to be looking at, as.
Michelle
Well as our partner law enforcement.
Mark Halperin
We're going to get to the answers.
Michelle
For the American people as soon as we can.
Mark Halperin
Okay, let's cut out of this. Cut out of this for now. We'll come back to this facility and take that down. All right, guys, let's speed through some stuff. We're going to get to your questions in just a bit, so please raise your hand if you want in on the conversation. I don't think we need to talk very much about a shutdown because with the talks between Schumer and Jeffries and the President canceled, I don't think there's anything happening anytime soon, at least before tomorrow's show. Either of you see any movement in the next 24 hours on a potential shutdown? No, Sean, none. Okay. Schumer story in the Politico today saying that they contacted a bunch of people running for Senate in various states with contested primaries, and no one supported Schumer for majority leader. Not everybody opposed him, but no one said, yes, of course, I'm for the current leader. Now, this happened to Nancy Pelosi at one point when she was Democratic leader, or perhaps Speaker, I guess, the Democratic leader. And happened, of course, to Mitch McConnell, Dan first, then Sean Schumer could retire. He could stay on and not run for leader, or AOC could Beat him in a primary. Will Chuck Schumer be the Democratic leader regardless? Minority, minority. Will he be the Democratic leader in the next Congress, yes or no?
Dan M. Spicer
Yes, he will be in the next Congress, but he will announce he's not going to run for reelection in 2028.
Mark Halperin
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. No, no, no. If he doesn't run a reelection in 20. Sorry.
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah, no, sorry.
Mark Halperin
No, no, you're right. You're right. Sorry, sorry. Will. Will he, will he, will he be the Democratic leader after. Will he be Democrat leader in 29 is really what I mean, so.
Dan M. Spicer
Oh, in 29.
Mark Halperin
No, no, Sean, I'm going to trust.
Sean Spicer
I'm going to trust Dan on this one. I'm going no.
Mark Halperin
Okay. The answer is no. I increasingly think that he's not going to run for reelection.
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah.
Mark Halperin
Kamala Harris. Okay, real quick.
Sean Spicer
If he does run. Wait, wait. I just want to clarify this. If he doesn't run, are you guys both of the mindset that AOC does run?
Mark Halperin
Yes.
Dan M. Spicer
No, I think he's going to run for president in 28 instead. I will say, Mark, the one caveat is if Democrats somehow win the Senate, he's gonna, he'll stay.
Mark Halperin
Yeah.
Dan M. Spicer
Credit for Brown and Cooper and.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, right. All right, Politico, this Politico story on Schumer. Sorry, Harris. Harris. Politico story on Harris and one in the Free Press says what we've been saying here, what we said on two Way tonight, which is the book tour is alienating Democrats. There's a lot of on the record and blind quotes in the Politico story saying this is all self serving. She's trashing people, gossipy people. Don't be reminded of her. Sean, first, and if you were an advisor to Kamala Harris and she called you and she said, I've read all these stories and I don't like, I don't like the coverage here. I want to, I want to turn the page. The book tour continues. What would be like her talking points or her strategy to, to get the coverage on something less being less negatively received by the commentariat?
Sean Spicer
I think two things. One, she could lay out some sort of like wild vision or policy pronouncement on the left going forward saying we Democrats need to support free housing or something. I mean like really the topic or find some really new sharp attack on Donald Trump. I wouldn't recommend that, but I think that's the, that's the reflexive default of most Democrats. But if she really wanted to do this, she'd find something affordable housing, something like that would change the thing that people would say, I saw you announce this.
Mark Halperin
Okay.
Sean Spicer
Ask you about it.
Mark Halperin
Dan, what do you think of that idea?
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah, I mean, her problem is the base was so frustrated with her with the election, the base was then frustrated that she stayed silent for this entire first half of this year. So you've got to do something to throw the base some red meat to get them off of the circular firing squad and onto a new target. No pun intended, you know, in these times right now. But she's got no friends right now. She's. Nobody is pleased with what she's doing, not even her and her own staff.
Mark Halperin
She's got the. She. She's got the number one selling book on Amazon, so.
Dan M. Spicer
All right. I thought It'd be number 15. So there. There you go.
Sean Spicer
Yeah, I think. Yeah. That's actually the one surprising thing of the entire deal is how well it's doing. Although Amazon, you know, is an algorithm, so you can. But, yeah, I will say.
Dan M. Spicer
I'm reading it.
Sean Spicer
She could do housing, too. I also think. And again, I'm just trying to put my lefty hat on. I think she could do legalizing drugs.
Mark Halperin
Yeah.
Sean Spicer
Kids, motivated.
Mark Halperin
Is. Is there. Is there any level on which someone could say to her, your, Your. The. Your. The coverage of your book tour, not book sales. The coverage of your book tour is going well. Are we being too hard? Is it possible it's actually going really well? No.
Dan M. Spicer
And I know somebody around her who said they're. They're aware of how bad it's going.
Mark Halperin
Yes, that's true.
Dan M. Spicer
And so is she.
Mark Halperin
His name is Doug. Yeah, but that's why. That's why I wonder. That's why I wonder if she'll try to change it. I don't know what she's doing. Besides these two town hall things tonight, does anybody know what else is coming up on the book tour? She's got a bunch of events coming.
Sean Spicer
Up, but, yeah, she's got those ticketed events.
Mark Halperin
She got any more press coming up?
Dan M. Spicer
No, but I think she might be trying to meet with people. Yeah, I think she may be trying to meet with donors. She may be trying. And I'm not sure everyone wants to take the meeting.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, true. All right.
Sean Spicer
I will say the ticket sales, though, that's going to be another thing. You know, you saw, like, Jim Acosta tried to pull that off here, and it went horrible. So I think. Does she sell these things out? Do they start giving tickets away? That's not a good look.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. Hillary Clinton was on Morning Joe for two segments. As Dan said, a lot of Democrats looked at her performance this morning and said to him and to me, and Dan said himself, oh, my God, she's so awesome. And she's, you know, very impressive person, but we, we don't need to talk about that. Gavin Newsom is also in New York, was on Colbert last night. He was asked by Stephen why the redistricting fight had such resonance. And here he is. 116, please.
Sean Spicer
Why do you think it so deeply resonates with people? Why do you think this has made such a difference? I mean, you're glad it is, but what do you think people are responding to? Just the fight, I think, you know, this has been a. This is a tough time.
Mark Halperin
I'm aware.
Sean Spicer
No, but there's been a lot of anxiety, a lot of stress, a lot of folks that honestly just don't know we're going to get our country back. And I get it, people, this guy is flooding the zone. He's dominating the narratives. Facts don't seem to matter. And Democrats, frankly, have had a difficult time pushing back. And Democrats feel that times there's sort of this weakness that dominates our brand and our party. And I think what people appreciate is that we're willing to fight and not only fight symbolically by having a little bit fun, but fight substantively. We have 41 lawsuits against this son of a bitch. We're pushing back and we're winning and, you know, and we're filling a void on a lot of issues. I'm out here for Climate Week. California is the tent pole in terms of climate policy in this country. As he walks away from Paris, he walks away from leadership, moral authority around the rest of the world. California is trying to assert itself on health policy. Same thing. We created this West Coast Collaborative. We're not going to listen to this guy. We're not going to listen to him trying to pronounce a set of medicine or we're not going to sit there, listen to all that. No one trusts the guy.
Dan M. Spicer
We have to.
Sean Spicer
Quick break.
Dan M. Spicer
Right back with more.
Mark Halperin
All right, quick pop up. The quad split. Does it have the BBC in there? Is that the fourth thing in there right now? I just want to show you that the way the cable networks are currently covering things. Fox is still covering the shooting, and CNN has an exclusive interview with the Washington Post columnist Tia, who was fired. MSNBC is promoting their role in the thing they do every year, the Global Citizen Initiative.
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah, that big concert is Saturday concert in Central park.
Mark Halperin
And. And the BBC is. Which Is not. We have CNBC up there, but the BBC is covering Zelensky speaking live to the UN Right now. So just give you an idea of what's in the news. All right, finally. And then we're going to talk about Gavin Newsom and AOC and Kamala Harris. Gavin Newsom recruited AOC to do an ad for the ballot measure on redistricting. And Dan and Sean are going to give theater criticism reviews of her perf in this 32nd reel after we play it right now. Number 118, please.
Michelle
California, you know we don't back down from a fight. And this November, the fight belongs to you. Donald Trump is redrawing election maps to force through a Congress that only answers to him, not the people. If he gets away with it, all bets are off for our health care, our paychecks and our freedoms. With Prop 50, we can stop him. Prop 50 levels the playing field and gives power back to the people. Fight for democracy in all 50 states. Yes, on 50.
Dan M. Spicer
Dan, review of that performance for the targeted audience. It's good. I mean, I know some of those, those things she said don't test well with the broader electorate. But for California Democrats who they're trying to get fired up to make sure they turn out, it's good ad, Sean.
Sean Spicer
So I feel like I'm, you know, stayed up late. I, I, instead of watching Kimmel, I did watch Dancing with the Stars. So I'll, I'll do my, my breath, my best. Bruno here. I thought the production was good, the lighting was good. It came off well. To Dan's point. Again, that's not appealing to Republicans, but I assume that she with Democrats and it comes across well, I will say, you know, to be nitpicky here because that's what Bruno would do on my tango. She like the idea that we, she's not part of California. She represents New York. So I got to give her take points off on that. And there's no call to action at the end. No CTA, no. So go to california.prop50 and join the fight. That's a huge mess. You got someone like her. She's motivating you. You want to tell your folks where to go. You want to get them to activate. In some ways they missed that on that. I'm going to take point off for that. So I'm going to give her 7 5.
Mark Halperin
Okay. I thought, I thought the performance was excellent.
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah.
Mark Halperin
So excellent. All right.
Sean Spicer
75 is pretty great.
Mark Halperin
Exit, Exit question. In no particular order, who today are the three most likely Democratic nominees for president in 2028.
Dan M. Spicer
Dan Newsom, Brashear. Somebody in the progressive wing.
Mark Halperin
Need a name. Must name names.
Dan M. Spicer
A orc.
Mark Halperin
Thank you. Sean.
Sean Spicer
Newsom, AOC and then I'm gonna. My. I'm in a third place tie. I, I. It's like Westmore, Whitmer, Bashir.
Mark Halperin
Neither. He said Shapiro.
Dan M. Spicer
No, I'm actually getting ready to write on him.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, Sean. Neither. Neither of you think Shapiro.
Sean Spicer
Okay, I'll add him to my tie. He said my third place.
Dan M. Spicer
Keeps showing that when there's the opportunity. He just seems frozen.
Mark Halperin
Since you guys didn't play fair. I'm not. I'm not gonna even tell you my answer.
Chuck Long
You can.
Sean Spicer
You can cheat, but you give us.
Mark Halperin
Newsome, Newsom, Shapiro, and Michael Bennett, okay?
Sean Spicer
Oh, my God. If Michael Bennett is your three, that's.
Dan M. Spicer
Do you think he can pivot from running for governor to running for president immediately?
Mark Halperin
Michael Dukakis did it, and look how well it worked out for him. Yes. Okay, everybody, in just a moment, we're.
Dan M. Spicer
Gonna get one quick point.
Sean Spicer
I can't leave Newsom without saying this for all the crap that Republicans take. Newsom was on Colbert. He also talked about how the 2028 election is likely to be canceled. That's a lie. That's election misinformation. And so I just. No, I'm just.
Mark Halperin
Hey.
Dan M. Spicer
But Trump flirts with maybe Iran. He's trolling.
Mark Halperin
Is it more. How would you. How would you compare this misinformation to saying the 2020 election was stolen? How would you compare those two equal?
Sean Spicer
You can't tell me one's in the past. One already happened. You're depriving. You're preventing. You're trying to suppress the vote.
Dan M. Spicer
2020. So Trump saying he may run in 28.
Sean Spicer
He didn't say that. He's had a lot of packs.
Dan M. Spicer
He runs out and his family wears. Come on, man. People are guys trolling.
Mark Halperin
Some people are saying. All right, again, in just a moment. In just a moment. If you want to get in on the conversation. What a wonderful opportunity.
Sean Spicer
I'm sorry, one last thing, because it's. How come no one mentioned Pritzker?
Mark Halperin
He's. No. He's as good. He has as good a chance as Dan to be the nominee.
Sean Spicer
Website for Dan.
Dan M. Spicer
I know Dan. That's right.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. Yes, we. Dan again, everybody, if you're here and you want to get in on the conversation, please raise your hand. I see some new hands up. I'm like the host of Romper Room. I see all these new people. I See Sally, I see Grant, I see Chuck. Thank you. We'll get to everybody in just a moment. And as always, bring peace, love and understanding to the party, please.
Dan M. Spicer
Mark, we love certain people, right?
Mark Halperin
Yeah.
Dan M. Spicer

Thanks for being part of the two way experience. Tell everybody where you are and what's on your mind. For award winning hosts, Dan Turn M. Spicer.
Chuck Long
Hey, thanks Mark. Thanks for the platform. This is great. This is my first time calling or actually being on the platform. I typically watch on YouTube but I.
Mark Halperin
Wanted to get welcome, welcome in.
Chuck Long
I'm from, I'm in Oklahoma but I'm not from here. I retired after 26 years in the name and this is just where we ended up. So I want to talk about the kind of echo the caller that you had last week that you had on play the clip of on the last night on your two way show from Chicago and I'm in a similar situation. I'm a two time Trump voter. 2020, 2024. And you're always asking about what we can do to move forward and bring the country together. I think a big part of it from my perspective is the leaders in the Democratic party and I know people like Dan, who I really appreciate, do admit some of these shortcomings. The murderers secure the hunter Biden laptop threat. The democracy, fiery but mostly peaceful, you know, like pandemic of the unvaccinated. They need to actually say, we were wrong or we misled you or something to that effect, or else people are not going to trust them. They're not going to trust, you know, that they have the best interest of the country going forward. And I think that that's a big problem. I want there to be a good Democratic candidate because I think that makes the Republicans put forth their best candidate and it just makes a better, makes us a better country for it. My last question for you, Mark, do you read the chat or do you just glance at it?
Mark Halperin
I've never, I've never read it once. Occasionally I glance at it just because I'm a former college, college high school basketball player and my peripheral vision, I just can't turn it off. But thank you for that. Dan, comment on what Chuck said, or maybe a question for Chuck.
Dan M. Spicer
Chuck, I think you, you, you said it very well. First off, good job raising your hand and welcome to the Zoom. I think you're starting to see some Democrats who want to be leaders expressing areas where we've made mistakes. Pete Buttigieg has started to do it. You know, you saw Josh Shapiro even kind of going back at Kamala Harris by saying, hey, you're going to have to answer for why you didn't say anything. Why you. I think you're beginning to see it, and I think that you're right. The only way to regain trust is you have to admit where you were wrong. And so I think you will see it. Is there an issue, particular as you look forward, that really gnaws at you where you're like, man, until they address this, I just cannot see myself going back.
Chuck Long
I think the biggest one is the border because of how they ignored it for so long. Towards the end of the President Biden's administration, they said, oh, no, we're fixing it now, it's getting better. And then we have this bill that's going to fix it. You can't fix it without the bill. We have to pass this. But then the bill doesn't pass and then somehow President Trump comes in and the border seems to be more secure. So did we need the bill? Why couldn't we have done it without the, you know, just things like that. And I mean, there's still like you guys were talking about earlier, oh, there's not going to be an election in 2028, you know, threat to democracy, those types of things. It's just. It's not. It's not realistic. And I know that it's trolling, and Trump does it too. You know, it's. I'm running for a third. Maybe I'll run for a third term, but, you know, just things like that. And Mark, I had one other point. I'll let you go. I know that you guys, there's a lot of news inside the Beltway and as you say, Gotham City. Maybe a suggestion that once a week you do, like, flyover Fridays and have people, somebody on from, like, the flyover states as a. As a, you know, a guest. Just a suggestion because there's those of us out here, too. Like I said, I'm not from Oklahoma, but I happen to live here.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck. I appreciate the suggestion, but ironically, we have someone from flyover country on right now. That would be you.
Chuck Long
That's true.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. People from flyover country are very welcome here at all times, but thank you for being here. Grateful.
Dan M. Spicer
They say all we do is have people there. There's no one from, you know, coastal areas.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. All right, let's add in Grant. Grant Unmute. Welcome in. Tell folks who don't know where you are what's on your mind. And no, I don't read the chat.
Grant
Big morning, everybody. Kind of like. Kind of like Chuck. I watch on YouTube a lot. It's my first time actually being involved on the. On the zoom meeting.
Mark Halperin
Welcome in. Happy to have you here. Thank you.
Grant
Thank you. I'm from Texas. I live born and raised here, just outside of Houston. So that will actually be one of my two questions or points today. The first one was I just found it really pathetic, I guess, that Jimmy Kimmel couldn't even apologize fully last night. I, I read. I watched the clip this morning and I thought, you know, if my child had done something wrong or my spouse or a co worker and gave me that sort of apology, I would absolutely not believe in any way, shape or form that they felt like they had done wrong. I mean, I just really feel like Kimmel could have gone a little bit not. Not even the script that we read earlier from that tweet, but just some sort of acknowledgment of, hey, yeah, I got this wrong. My mistake. I shouldn't have said that. Something to that effect. I know there was a, like a political angle to it at this point where he's got to stand up to Trump and the fcc, but I know that was just my One thought, my second thought is this is for really anybody, I guess. I live here in Texas. So the big discussion is the Senate primary between Cornyn and Paxton. I saw the story this morning that cornyn Picked up 15 endorsements from other GOP house. But then I'm getting text messages from Wesley Hunt. And so my question, I guess for the group is is there any possibility.
Sean Spicer
What are the text messages from Wesley.
Grant
Saying just my name is Wesley Hunt. I've worked for Donald Trump. Text now are calling out say thanks for working with Donald Trump.
Sean Spicer
Which I love.
Grant
Yeah. In bail terms, which I, when I was in 2018 in midterms and I was volunteering, I met him then, so I know who he was. I did. But is there any possibility him jumping in and trying to sell himself to the White House as sort of the unity candidate between the Paxton parts of the Texas primary and the corn in parts of the Texas primary?
Mark Halperin
Yes, there's a possibility. But I believe Trump will either endorse Cornyn or stay neutral and that Cornyn will win the nomination. And the endorsements he got today were from former House Republicans, not current, but still a nice list, nice roster of folks. Sean, comments on that or Grant's first point?
Sean Spicer
I'm sorry, I just, I got wrapped up.
Dan M. Spicer
The Kimmel. He asked about Kimmel.
Sean Spicer
Oh, yeah. I mean, look, look, as I said, I, I totally agree with you, Grant. I mean, look, I, I, I believe every, I mean, how you frame this is perfect. You either apologize and say I screwed up, I made a mistake, I shouldn't have done this, or I went too far, whatever it is, and that's fine, we all do it, I've done it a lot. Or you weasel out of it, as I said, and you say I'm sorry if you're offended, which is then don't, don't even bother. And I thought what he did last night was, was actually made it worse and he drew the battle lines even thicker for the two sides because to me, you're going to come back on don't invoke Erica's name and her attempt at forgiveness if you're not even going to go the same way. I found it actually kind of offensive what he did last night. And so I think he made it worse. It was pathetic in that sense, the idea that he tried to gaslight us by saying, I never tried to make something out of this man's assassination, that's not what it was about. He lied about who the shooter was. He tried to blame aside and knew that it wasn't true at the time. That's the issue. And I think that, you know, so he is rightly being called out for it. On your other point, look, I think Wesley is trying to sell himself to some degree or test the waters and see if there's stuff there. What I have been impressed, I will say, by what Cornyn has done to close the gap. We'll see how this works. I don't believe we'll get to a point where Trump will endorse him. I would find it a hard bridge to cross for the Trump team, and Trump knows that. But crazier things have happened. We'll see. But that one, to me, I'm fascinated by it.
Mark Halperin
Just you wait. Don't forget that two people working for John Cornyn are Chris La Civita and Tony Fabrizio. And the day the data in that race has shown Corn and closing.
Sean Spicer
Oh, I, and I, I agree. No, no, there's. I, I think Cornyn, like I said, he's done a fantastic job closing. But I just think that there's enough. There's enough. There are enough issues that I don't know.
Mark Halperin
There are issues. Not a sure thing, Dan.
Dan M. Spicer
Yeah. So I'll defer to them. On Texas, on Kimmel, I think. Look, Grant, I agree with Sean and my MO is when you screw up, you own it, you apologize, you swallow your medicine and you move on. I think one of the things, though, is one of the things that the left has kind of looked at and pulled their hair out the last 10 years is that Trump never apologizes for anything, ever. Right. It is always a front foot counterattack and distract. And so what Kimmel did last night, whatever I think of it, to a lot of Democrats, they applauded. Don't back down. You didn't actually mean that you were talking about something else. Again, you and I can disagree about that. You can say that enrages me. But whether it's Gavin Newsom or others, Democrats are now like, you know what? We can't beat Trump. Copy him. Copy his tactics, copy his strategies. Do not apologize or you're a wimp.
Mark Halperin
Yep. Grant, thank you. Hey, guys, don't look. Don't look at your computers. No Googling. The typical Kimmel video gets about 250,000 views. How many views so far do you think the 20 minute monologue has?
Sean Spicer
1.7 million. Excuse me, 2.7 million.
Mark Halperin
2.7. Dan.
Dan M. Spicer
15 million.
Mark Halperin
Right in the middle. Kind of eight and a half million. And of course, if you lived in a Sinclair market or a next star market, you can still watch it.
Sean Spicer
All right, wait, hold on. I just want to. Can I riff off that for a second? Mark Halperin, you're the executive producer. Jimmy Kimmel tonight.
Dan M. Spicer
Were you.
Sean Spicer
Are you more excited you got 15 million to watch your 20 minute monologue on YouTube or whatever ratings you get today.
Mark Halperin
What.
Sean Spicer
What is more exciting as the EP right now that that video went viral? Or whatever ratings, whatever comes under door number two later today.
Mark Halperin
I'm agnostic on distribution. I just want revenue. So whichever is better for revenue. David, welcome in. Thank you.
Sean Spicer
Revenue is not going to come through YouTube to that level.
Mark Halperin
There you go. David, welcome in. Thank you for being part of the two way experience. David, for those of you who don't know, lives in Brooklyn, USA. And he wishes Mr. Mondami was a little bit more to the left. David.
Hakeem Jeffries
Yes, it's a voice from Fly In Country.
Mark Halperin
Exactly.
Hakeem Jeffries
Before I ramble on, I just want to tell you that last night I received a special invitation to a Mamdani merch event where you bring in your blank T shirt or tote bag and they will emblazon it with the right slogan.
Mark Halperin
When is that? Maybe. Maybe I'll go with you. When is it?
Hakeem Jeffries
I'm sorry?
Mark Halperin
Maybe I'll go with you.
Hakeem Jeffries
It's Friday night. It's Friday night. It immediately made me think, what if I had a fairly in green shirt with. Which was already emblazoned with no smack in the chat or something like that.
Mark Halperin
There's. There's room. There's room on it and I can very, very. Just a little. No smack in the chat. Very little.
Sean Spicer
I will say this. I will say this. I give the guy. That's a brilliant idea though. So I'll give him credit.
Mark Halperin
They are innovative. David, besides haberdashery, what's on your mind?
Hakeem Jeffries
Uh, I was going to say that one of my favorite categories of discourse while I go and plug in my computer because I'm running out of power. One of my favorite categories of discourse is the. The question why is nobody talking about this? And we have so many items that we could put in that category lately. Why is nobody talking about Epstein anymore? Why is nobody talking about the Biden cover up anymore? Yeah, my favorite. Why is nobody talking about the motivations of the shooters in Utah, in Florida, in pa where is the deep dive on these guys?
Mark Halperin
Yeah, these are all. These are all. These are all good. These are all good questions. Do you want us to address any of them in particular or just the general concept?
Hakeem Jeffries
Well, no, I mean, that's my that's my general concept. My actual, my actual favorite is why is nobody talking about the fact I watched the Charlie Kirk Memorial. Quite a bit of it. I, I didn't catch everybody, but I, but I caught a lot of it. And there we go.
Sean Spicer
Power.
Hakeem Jeffries
I was, I was, I was terrified. What I saw, and I don't, like I say I don't hear anyone talking about this. What I saw was a huge Christian nationalist rally. A rally behind the idea that this is a Christian nation. Christians built it. It's for Christians. God has ordained Donald Trump and Stephen Miller to run this country. I mean, it was appalling. It was appalling and terrifying. Okay, I'm rereading.
Mark Halperin
David, hold on, hold on. I want to get, I want to get Dan and Sean to respond that. But first I want to read everybody a tweet from the Secretary of Homeland Security. There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas ICE field office. Details are still emerging, but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by self inflicted gunshot wound. While we don't know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement in facing unprecedented violence against them, it must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families. Dan, you first on David's critique of the ceremony on Sunday. And then Sean.
Dan M. Spicer
Well, I think, look, I, I think I, I understand what you're saying, David. I think Charlie Kirk was Christian. Faith was important to him. It was a service in, in his honor.
Mark Halperin
Sure.
Dan M. Spicer
So I, you know, I think that context matters a little bit.
Hakeem Jeffries
Of course, of course. That's the context.
Dan M. Spicer
Look, I think a lot of things about Donald Trump, but do I think that he is anti Semitic or that he views only that you can only be Christian? I do not. His own daughter and son in law are Jewish. Half his cabinet is Jewish or not half, but several prominent members of his cabinet are Jewish. I don't believe that he sees it that way, but there's always been a strand of, you know, Christian conservatives that are fairly narrowly focused. But I'll cut a little bit of slack given what the event was.
Mark Halperin
Sean, briefly, if you can, so we can get one more person in.
Sean Spicer
Yeah, just real quick. First of all, I agree with you on the issues. The Epstein one will be back because their election last night will get the disparks petition out. I am impressed with the size of your house, considering how far you just walked to plug that thing in.
Mark Halperin
Had the same thought.
Sean Spicer
And on the last thing, I will just say this just to be clear. You meant he name check Stephen Miller to Dan's point. Stephen's Jewish, so he didn't do too well as a Christian nationalist up there speaking. If he's okay. To Dan's point, my grandmother would say it's Ashanda.
Hakeem Jeffries
That he's Jewish, but anyway.
Sean Spicer
Yeah, but I would just say that this was a celebration, not. It was. It was Charlie's memorial service. Faith was who he was. I. I would have been surprised if it wasn't. And.
Mark Halperin
Yeah. David. Thank. David. Thank you. Michelle, can you unmute? Want to try to get you in real quick before we have to go.
Michelle
Of course. Well, I had two comments, but I'm just going to stick to one for the sake of time.
Mark Halperin
Thank you.
Michelle
Of course. So, something I've been thinking about, Mark, that you've mentioned a few times, and you mentioned it last night on Next up, is why can't Republicans forgive Jimmy Kimmel? And I want to challenge you, Sean, on something that you said yesterday, that, that you don't necessarily forgive Jimmy Kimmel and that it's not your place to forgive him, and because he didn't apologize. And I want to challenge you on that because I see it a little bit differently. And I largely agree with you on a lot of things, Sean. So I don't want you to feel like I'm, I'm calling you out. Forgiveness is something that, that you do for you. It's. It's a gift that. And a mercy that we don't deserve. And in the same way that Erica Kirk didn't wait for Charlie's assassin to ask for forgiveness or to apologize. In the same way that Jesus didn't send a son to die for us before we asked for.
Dan M. Spicer
Oh, no. Oh, Michelle, you just muted yourself. You cut out for one sec.
Michelle
I'm sorry. Thank you.
Dan M. Spicer
We lost you at Jesus.
Mark Halperin
Yeah, go ahead.
Michelle
Oh, okay.
Dan M. Spicer
Right there.
Michelle
In the same way that. That he didn't send his son to die for us before we. We asked for forgiveness, it's. It's something that we do for us because holding on to that unforgiveness, it will rot you from the inside out. It's like a poison. So in regard to Jimmy Kimmel, I don't like what he said. I think it's abhorrent. I don't like how he handled coming back on the air. And that's between Jimmy Kimmel and the Lord. And I'm going to choose to forgive him and move on. And I'm also going to choose to protect his right to free speech, because that's something that Charlie Kirk would do too. Charlie Kirk would stand up for Jimmy Kimmel's right to say what he wants to say. And that's what makes this country so great. So in the spirit of peace, love and understanding, I would just challenge everyone moving forward and you, Shawn, to just think of it from that perspective that holding on to that hurt and holding on to that anger. And I know that you lost someone really important to you. And for all intents and purposes, I did too. I didn't even know Charlie Kirk. And I've never been this grief stricken over someone I've never even met. And I'm gonna choose to forgive Jimmy Kimmel and move on, because holding on to that anger towards him, it's not moving our country forward and. And it's not helping us heal and come together.
Mark Halperin
Michelle, really, really beautifully said and grateful to you for it. Sean.
Sean Spicer
Yeah. First, I. I really appreciate your perspective. I think what Erica did the other night was some. One of the most selfless acts I've ever, probably ever will see in my life. And I hope someday I can be.
Mark Halperin
As good as her.
Sean Spicer
But also remember that there were two men on that cross. One asked Jesus for forgiveness. And I choose to look at that individual and say that's how life should be. You make a mistake, you ask for forgiveness, and then you're given it. But I don't. It's not a question of whether I should forgive Jimmy Kimmel or not. I really don't care. I don't think Jimmy cares whether I want his forgiveness or not. I just think if you're not smart enough to recognize what you did first. Again, it's not like he needs my forgiveness or I have anything to offer him. It didn't offend me. He offended every supporter of on the right. He lied to the American people on Public Airways. And that's so I do think that if you're not going to recognize your. What you did wrong, then you know you have the right to say it. He has 100%. I'll defend that. All day long I defended the Dixie Chicks when they said something stupid. But then we had a right to go out and crush their CDs. That's. The free speech isn't a one way avenue. And that's what Jimmy said last night. I have a right. It's un American what's happening to me. No, Jimmy, you have a right to say it. And I have a right to say what you said was wrong and offensive. So free speech is not a one way thing that the left gets to say. I get to say everything. And frankly, for those of us on the right who this is very personal to, no one gave a crap about my life, my livelihood, all of the opportunities that I was told I'm never gonna be given. Not one of these people said a damn thing. When Biden went and told people that if you didn't do what he said on Facebook, he was gonna crush you. When people got taken off Twitter and YouTube and canceled, no one on the left, no one in the media gave a damn. So you know what? I'm all for forgiveness. But all of these people who suddenly give a crap about the First Amendment are the biggest hypocrites in this country. I'll forgive them when they recognize their sin. And so far, none of them have.

Michelle, I'll say in the spirit of peace, love and understanding humor, you can see Sean is right on the precipice of giving up his anger. Right on the precipice, giving up his anger. Michelle, thank you. Very grateful to you. All right. A ton to tell you about. And I'll go first here. You go ahead and put up promo number one. So a number of Charlie's friend Charlie Kirk's friends are traveling around the country doing events for that stay in his stead. And Michael Knowles just did one and he'll be talking to Megan about that and a lot more. That's at noon, one o'. Clock. David Bonson will join me for an event, a private event for two way community members. One o', clock, go to two way tv tbg. If you haven't yet to sign up, David will be answering your questions about the economy, about personal, personal wealth management, which is what he does, whatever you want to ask him. Again, you need to register for the event. If you want to join us, go to two way TV TBG. Then six o', clock, two way tonight my guests will be Michael LaRosa and Drew Holden. Episode: Jimmy Kimmel Doesn't Apologize in Monologue, Slams Trump and Carr, Tears Up As He Praises Erika Kirk
Date: September 24, 2025
Hosts: Mark Halperin, Sean Spicer, Dan Turrentine
Podcast: 2WAY Morning Meeting
This weekday edition of the 2WAY Morning Meeting features the trio breaking down the biggest story of the news cycle: Jimmy Kimmel’s much-anticipated monologue following his return to late-night television after controversy over his comments related to the shooting of Charlie Kirk. The hosts also examine President Trump’s changing stance on Russia and Ukraine, ongoing political maneuvering on Capitol Hill, and the optics and fallout from high-profile Democratic figures like Chuck Schumer, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. More than a rundown, the show provides critical, unscripted conversations with both insight and humor, inviting real-time listener participation.
Discussion Begins: [04:02]
Main Issue: Jimmy Kimmel’s return monologue after his suspension for comments on the Kirk shooting.
Reaction:
"Not good enough. Jimmy, it’s simple...I’m sorry for saying the shooter was MAGA. He was not. He was of the left. I apologize to the Kirk family for lying. Please accept my sincere apology. I will do better. I was wrong." – Andrew Colvin ([09:24])
"There are two types of apologies. ... The second are the weasel ones. And the weasel ones were 'I’m sorry if you’re offended.' And that’s what Jimmy did last night." – Sean Spicer ([10:38])
Business Fallout to Watch:
“I found it really pathetic...If my child had done something wrong and gave me that sort of apology, I would absolutely not believe they felt like they had done wrong."
“Forgiveness is something you do for you... In the same way Erica Kirk didn’t wait for Charlie’s assassin to ask for forgiveness...I’m going to choose to forgive [Kimmel] and move on." ([55:52])
Starts: [05:02], [07:03], [24:48]
Starts: [12:52]
President’s Social Post:
“You have to show strength… Putin has no respect for words, only action.” – Hillary Clinton ([16:06])
Hosts Debate Next Steps:
Starts: [24:55]
Starts: [29:06], [32:05], [33:49]
Newsom on Colbert: Defends California’s climate and health leadership, frames Dems as “willing to fight” against Trump’s agenda
“We have 41 lawsuits against this son of a bitch...Democrats, frankly, have had a difficult time pushing back.” – Gavin Newsom ([29:35])
AOC’s Ad for Prop 50:
2028 Democratic Nominee Speculation:
Starts: [09:06], [21:52]
Begins: [38:15]
“The only way to regain trust is to admit where you were wrong.” – Dan Turrentine ([40:15]) “The border is the biggest one...” – Chuck ([41:07])
The conversation swings easily between biting political critique and moments of genuine empathy and candor. There’s a clear sense that the Kimmel saga is less about the comedian himself and more a proxy for broad cultural and political division. Amid sharp disagreements, listeners and hosts alike grapple with the limits of outrage, the meaning of apology, and the possibility of healing and accountability—even when the wounds, political and personal, run deep.
In the words of Michelle ([55:52]):
“Holding onto anger isn’t moving our country forward, and it’s not helping us heal and come together.”
**For further engagement, listeners are urged to join upcoming live sessions, continue the conversation online, and—above all—bring “peace, love, and understanding to the party.”
