In February of 1983, young mother Ora Owens woke up to every woman’s worst nightmare. A man standing over her bed watching her as she slept as she is home alone with her children. After leaping out of bed to try to run for help, the stranger caught up to her, dragging her back into her bedroom and violently attacking her. In the middle of the attack, her four-year-old son Mitchell walked in. He bravely said to the assailant “You’re hurting my mom, and I’m going to tell.” After that Ora was knocked unconscious. Miraculously, she was found still clinging to life and rushed to the hospital. When she awoke, her life was forever shattered when she learned that her other two boys were found at the house, but her son Mitchell was gone. 43 years have passed without any answers as to who tried to kill her that night and what happened to her son. I’m so grateful that Ora has entrusted me with her story and it’s a responsibility I do not take lightly. In this episode, she sits down with me to tell her story fully for the first time publicly on this type of platform. We will tell you more about Mitchell and more about the case than just the scant information in newspaper clippings. And in the end, you’ll hear where the case stands and where there are calls to action. Because what once seemed like an impossible case to solve may now have some light at the end of the tunnel.Ora's GoFundMe for Helping Cold Case Families: https://gofund.me/678c6399f TIPS:Menlo Park Police Department at (415) 858-3300Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSources:https://oag.ca.gov/missing/person/mitchell-deon-owenshttps://charleyproject.org/case/mitchell-deon-owenshttps://charleyproject.org/case/kevin-andrew-mccarthy-collinshttps://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-francisco-examiner-second-page-o/148174240/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-francisco-examiner-second-page-o/148174240/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-francisco-examiner-february-10th/148174579/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-peninsula-times-tribune-mitchell-owe/148175744/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-peninsula-times-tribune-april-1984-n/148200394/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-peninsula-times-tribune-search-effor/148200542/https://www.newspapers.com/article/press-enterprise-photo-cartons/168561291/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-francisco-examiner-21083-owens/188328011/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-francisco-examiner-22-wants-son/188330394/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

I first came across Detective Robert Klein while covering the 1996 murder of Jasmine Porter. Detective Klein was the lead investigator on her cold case, and more than two decades later, he was the one who put the handcuffs on her killer.Recently retired from the NYPD after an accomplished career that included reaching the rank of Detective First Grade, Detective Klein joined me to talk about what detective work really looks like behind the scenes. We discuss his path through one of the largest police departments in the country, how cold cases are revisited and solved, what families should know when they are still waiting for answers, and he responds directly to listener questions. If you enjoy this conversation, there is more to come. Detective Klein and I are already working on two additional episodes, one revisiting a solved case and another taking a deep dive into an unsolved case that is still waiting for answers. Though retired, he continues to lend his expertise to investigative initiatives. I hope you enjoy this bonus episode. Please share, comment, and leave a 5 star review. On a holiday weekend in 2003, a woman was working overtime to get a project across the finish line for her employer. When her digital footprint trailed off and loved ones failed to hear from her, both her friends and colleagues grew concerned. Concern that was merited when a grisly discovery in the nearby Green River revealed she had met a horrific end to her life. Those closest to her believe the answer to who killed her is obvious, but despite this shared belief, nearly 23 years have passed without an arrest.TIPS: Quad City Crime Stoppers 309-762-9500 Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://www.kwqc.com/2021/07/09/we-want-bring-justice-jone-family-police-still-seeking-answers-east-moline-womans-2003-murder/https://www.wqad.com/article/syndication/podcasts/the-cities/missing-and-murdered-episode-6-examining-henry-county-cold-cases/526-9f215825-d2a7-49d4-97b7-23e2af69b80chttps://www.tapatalk.com/groups/thecyberseekerssociety/jone-knapton-missing-since-july-4-found-deceased-t537.htmlhttps://www.newspapers.com/article/the-evening-sun-divers-hunt/190681805/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-police-looking-for/190792868/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-woman-still-missin/190793528/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-body-found-22/190794062/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-body-id-uncertain/190794825/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-autopsy-reveal-bod/190795145/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-officials-suspend/190795584/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-both-cases-in-need/190796189/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-sunday-page-of-inv/190796533/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-em-police-still-waiting-81/190797486/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-remains-id-12/190797749/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-remains-id-22/190797780/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-obit-jone/190798144/ https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-inquest-oct-2/190798373/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-body-in-river-5-days-cause/190807506/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-sister-losing-hope-12/190807908/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-sister-frustrated-22/190808058/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-looking-for-unusua/190808159/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-jone-knaptonlaci/190844834/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-task-force-formed/190844976/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-reward-from-yosemi/190845072/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-we-want-justice/190845138/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-friends-hope-to-ra/190845229/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-family-growing-imp/190845376/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-oct-2004-fundraise/190845449/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-huge-success/190845488/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-40k/190845870/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-40k-full-article/190845943/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-skepticism-of-task-force/190846181/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-public-auction/190846257/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-2-yr-anniversary/190846369/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-child-porn-arrest/190846555/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-i-am-scared-of-him/190846740/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-scared-of-him-22/190846807/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-undecided-on-life-insurance/190847209/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-family-relives-murder/190847268/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-family-frustrated-reliving/190847323/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-4-year-vigil/190847427/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-letter-from-niece/190847584/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-with-states-attorn/190847687/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-dispatch-50th-bday-nearing-5-year-an/190847913/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-rock-island-argus-merchie-circumstan/190848257/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

On a summer night in 1988, an eight-year-old girl and her mother were at a neighborhood laundromat near their home, sitting together and talking while their first load of laundry finished. As they talked, they barely registered the movements of a man who entered the laundromat and passed through their line of sight. Moments later, he attacked them without warning. Injured and terrified, they managed to make it roughly one hundred yards back toward home before collapsing in a neighbor’s yard. The mother survived the attack. Her daughter did not. Today’s episode explores a case that is especially difficult to comprehend. Crimes committed by strangers are rare, and this one offers no clear motive, other than the possibility that the man became enraged over a vending machine that failed to give him change. Investigators believe the man who carried out the attack fled with help from another person who acted as a getaway driver. That individual has never been identified, and the man responsible for the violence has never been caught.TIPS: San Antonio Police Department Cold Case Tip Line 210.207.7401 You can also contact crime stoppers at 210.224.STOP Donate to the Jennifer Sue Delgado Foundation: https://jennifersuedelgado.org/donate/Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://sanantonioreport.org/san-antonio-memorial-slain-8-year-old/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBxjwx6bIxghttps://jennifersuedelgado.org/home/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-daughter-8-kil/190258541/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-suspect-sought/190258841/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-tyler-courier-times-girl-fatally-sta/190259135/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-monitor-girl-killed-in-laundromat/190259221/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-enraged-at-machine-12/190259448/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-stabbing-death-22/190259652/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-manhunt-12/190259903/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-manhunt-22/190260072/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-outrage-12/190261152/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-outrage-22/190261177/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-getaway-driver/190262231/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-appeal-for-info-12/190262555/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-public-appeal-22/190262830/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-mom-leaves-hosp/190265160/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-mom-goes-to-stay-wtih/190265313/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-donations/190265467/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-slain-girl-laid-to-res/190265635/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-22-funeral/190266019/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-mourners-honor/190266151/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-mom-afraid-kill/190267143/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-mom-afriad-kill/190267327/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-composite-sketc/190268250/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-composite-sketc/190268532/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-police-ask-for-help/190268588/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-work-backwards-from-a/190268733/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-sketch-spurs-tip/190268907/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-callers-say-man/190269835/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-police-investig/190269909/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-two-men-ruled-o/190270252/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-generic-composites/190270361/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-girl-sexually-a/190271168/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-reward-fund-est/190271310/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-working-to-rais/190271692/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-school-project/190271875/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-killings-of-six/190273759/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-police-still-lo/190274053/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-light-girls-death-in-88-stil/190274286/https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-antonio-express-news-ortiz-to-leave/190275692/ Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

It’s not every day that a town of just six thousand people becomes known for so many strange and unlikely things.Snowflake, Arizona, named after Erastus Snow and William Flake, is often described as the most Mormon town west of the Pecos. But in sharp contrast to its religious roots, it is also home to one of the largest cannabis cultivation operations in the country. It is the place where Travis Walton famously claimed he was abducted by a UFO in 1975, a story that would later become a bestselling book and the 1993 film Fire in the Sky. It is even home to an off-grid community of people who believe they suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and Electromagnetic Sensitivity, living together without modern technology. But what many people do not realize is that Snowflake is also a place where people seem to disappear. In 2003, a beloved grandmother and longtime town mail carrier, just months away from retirement, vanished without a trace, as if she simply stepped out of her life and was never seen again. What makes her disappearance even more unsettling is that just two years earlier, one of her neighbors disappeared under strikingly similar circumstances.More than twenty years later, this small town is still without answers and still haunted by the mystery of those who never came home.TIPS: 928-536-7500Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://charleyproject.org/case/june-goodmanhttps://namus.nij.ojp.gov/case/MP42792https://charleyproject.org/case/michael-alan-tapleyhttps://www.reddit.com/r/Documentaries/comments/4seh80/snowflake_arizona_where_the_residents_are/https://www.deseret.com/2003/5/8/19720957/widow-s-disappearance-is-baffling-arizona-town/https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/1gukggh/june_goodman_had_dinner_with_her_sister_grabbed/?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/snowflake_taylor/two-months-later-no-new-leads-in-goodman-case/article_42b6c428-f7d3-50b6-80a8-ebf6605e1195.htmlhttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/68559180/june-goodmanhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/latest_news/local-police-suspect-foul-play-in-missing-woman-case/article_11fb11d0-083d-5b71-8c1c-267b423169d3.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/snowhttps://www.newspapers.com/article/the-arizona-republic-snowflake-woman-dis/189734107/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-arizona-republic-snowflake-baffled-1/189765234/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-arizona-republic-snowflake-baffled-2/189765256/flake_taylor/memorial-service-slated-for-woman-missing-for-five-years/article_7b6fc416-e96f-5c87-ad48-829ee249d1e8.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/latest_news/drug-bust-may-help-solve-missing-woman-case/article_0546eee1-dada-5bed-8e62-1a4c84a9e2ea.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/snowflake_taylor/search-fails-to-find-snowflake-woman/article_4427be41-9497-5083-ab6e-764f123cebca.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/snowflake_taylor/missing-woman-has-strong-local-ties/article_f7fe025a-7141-5df7-a4cf-3400b64bd3fc.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/latest_news/child-molester-murder-suspect-evades-the-law/article_9cdb7e39-3d77-58c0-9d7b-f1994acc48f1.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/latest_news/escaped-conn-back-in-custody/article_ec94aef3-829c-5596-9805-993033136dde.htmlhttps://www.wmicentral.com/news/snowflake_taylor/snowflake-murder-suspect-child-molester-caught/article_033c6131-b42a-5674-8d21-35db44a9a119.htmlhttps://www.tomhascallcole.com/Reed%20Wasson.htmlBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

“There is no actual physical injury, is there, other than some bruising? I am not suggesting that bruising is nice, but there is no disfigurement. There are no broken bones. There are no serious physical injuries, are there?”Those words were spoken by Criminal Court Judge Lorin Duckman at a bail hearing for the man who had been relentlessly stalking and abusing Galina Komar. Galina was present in the courtroom that day, forced to listen as the severity of what had been done to her was minimized. At one point she would note that the judge was more concerned about the placement of her stalker’s dog than he was about her life. Three weeks later, she would be dead. With January marking National Stalking Awareness Month, this episode does not only revisit the injustice of Galina’s case, it examines the ripple effects her murder had across New York City, exposing deep failures in how stalking and domestic violence were treated at the time. Galina’s death set off political infighting at the highest levels, and as the debate played out, a grim pattern continued to emerge: women being targeted by former partners kept being killed. If you need help with stalking, contact the National Center for Victims of Crime Helpline (800-FYI-CALL), the National Domestic Violence Hotline (800-799-SAFE), or the VictimConnect Resource Center (1-855-4-VICTIM)Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-galina-1/188867530/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-crazed-stalker-12/188868824/https://www.newspapers.com/article/newsday-no-way-out/188868951/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-stalker-22/188869239/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-ex-by-shoots-kills-self/188869480/https://www.newspapers.com/article/newsday-deadly-passion/188869537/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-freed-to-kill/188871135/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-judge-freed-him-to-kill/188874467/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-moms-record-of-abuse-and-orde/188874662/https://www.newspapers.com/article/newsday-more-care-about-the-dog/188875210/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-funeral-and-limitations-of-dv/188875324/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-transcript-and-outrage-22/188876814/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-statements-from-ex-gfmore-on/188877181/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-additional-botched-cases/188877413/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-previous-mishandlings-and-com/188877846/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-op-ed-piece/188877923/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-op-ed-piece/188877923/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-top-judge-wont-bench-duckman/188878060/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-gov-would-bolster-das/188878123/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-rudy-g-asks-gov-to-oust-judge/188878206/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-the-quack-ducks-the-heat/188879161/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-two-sides-to-the-right-to-app/188879597/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-cried-for-galina-12/188879829/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-other-duckman-opinion-22/188879940/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-opin-piece/188880009/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-3-cases/188880210/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-update-on-duckman/188880420/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-da-or-judges-fault/188880626/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-list-of-cases/188880917/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-eva-rosenthal/188880972/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-paper-protection/188881247/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-curbing-domestic-violence/188882799/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-mom-rips-duckman/188882983/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-benched/188883146/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-cops-death-a-mystery/189191073/https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-valdes-murder/189193232/https://www.stalkingawareness.org/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

I want to be transparent about this case from the start. While it is technically unsolved, there is a strong and consistent understanding of who is responsible. This is less a whodunit and more an opportunity to walk through our criminal justice system and examine how, over the course of decades, one man was able to manipulate outcomes in his favor. Shorter sentencing, public sympathy, and ultimately a lack of meaningful consequences. It is also a reminder that even when answers seem to form almost immediately, accountability and justice can remain painfully out of reach. One reality that is not always discussed in the true crime space is that families often know, deep down, who is responsible. They are left to live with that certainty while watching that person remain free. Today I am sharing a case like that. Because even when a case is positioned to never be officially solved, the identities of the victims are not erased. Their lives mattered, and their story still deserves to be told.TIPS: Richmond VA Police at (804) 646-6741Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material:Source material:https://murderpedia.org/male.B/b/barker-glenn-photos.htmhttps://www.styleweekly.com/no-one-has-anything-to-fear-about-me/https://charleyproject.org/case/katherine-sybil-worskyhttps://coldcase.vsp.virginia.gov/richmond-police-department/case/cynthia-heather-johnson-double-homicide/https://www.styleweekly.com/serial-killer-or-scapegoat/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-mother-child-fou/188466698/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-mother-daughter/188466991/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-cause-of-death-s/188467357/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-johnsons-family/188467704/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-family-mourns-w/188471071/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-both-obituaries/188606349/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-police-identify/188681869/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-police-identify/188689518/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-normal-procedure/188690306/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-ymca-league/188693130/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-nj-parents-upset/188693431/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-fliers-warn-of-p/188693654/https://www.newspapers.com/article/richmond-times-dispatch-obit-for-cynthia/188710100/https://c-ville.com/law-enforcement-worsky-family-react-convicted-killer-glenn-barkers-death/https://medium.com/write-a-catalyst/the-man-we-trusted-b6c8713239b8https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/19380087/cynthia_darlene-johnsonhttps://charleyproject.org/case/kelly-bergh-doveBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In 1975 Sacramento, a young girl named Harriet went out to play at the park and never returned home. Her concerned mother called police and tragically, the next day, her body was found in a dumpster just a mile away. Police quickly focused on two local boys who claimed it was all part of a child’s game that went terribly wrong. But as you’ll hear, there’s so much more to this story. Her father — a decorated veteran — was also murdered, there were other attacks on children nearby, and the details of the story simply don’t add up. Fifty years later, questions remain about how this case was handled and whether justice for Harriet has ever truly been within reach.TIPS: the Sacramento Sheriff's tip line is (916) 874-8477 Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Special thanks to Michael Vincent for this case request!Source Material:https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/1k3cx6f/an_airforce_sergeant_is_gunned_down_in_his/?share_id=A9erT051caSXqTrTegOrx&utm_content=2&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee/182731430/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-body-discovered/182731726/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-no-clues-found/182731795/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-shock-anger-caution/182731841/https://www.newspapers.com/article/oroville-mercury-register-harold-sr/182734825/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-union-no-motive/182734951/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-union-stephanie-black/182736182/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-union-james-black/182736220/https://www.newspapers.com/article/enterprise-record-stephanie-black-found/182736385/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-more-details/182737214/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-union-child-play-part-2/182738770/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-union-petition-dropped/182739503/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-losing-leads/182739666/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sacramento-bee-naacp/182739721/https://prettydeathseller.com/2017/11/05/harriet-riley/https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/local-law-enforcement-agencies-hoping-to-shed-new-light-on-cold-case-murders/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

A young woman is living in a small Concord, New Hampshire apartment with her husband and their little boy. Their marriage is rocky, and he comes and goes often, leaving Judy alone with their toddler. During those stretches, she was said to have been uneasy and fearful, convinced someone might break in. Neighbors didn’t quite understand her worry until one summer day in 1975, when Judy was found dead inside her apartment. In the decades since, investigators have looked closely at several suspects, some of whom have since passed away. Yet nearly fifty years later, hope remains that modern technology might finally reveal the truth about who killed Judy.TIPS: Cold Case Unit at (800) 525-5555 or by e-mail at coldcaseunit@dos.nh.govCase suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Source Material:https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-judy-lord-slaying-no-ar/182374894/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-first-article-with-detai/182374730/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-judy-lord-back-history/182375106/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-judy-lord-back-history/182375106/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-hair-samples-refused/182377586/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-court-hears-case/182380244/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-blood-and-hair-studied/182381237/https://www.newspapers.com/article/valley-news-many-unsolved-cases/182381436/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-new-details/182381875/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-details-on-physical-evid/182382155/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-time-technology-could-he/182382251/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-new-technology-22/182382312/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-earnest-stanberry/182382630/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-old-complex-new-attitude/182382701/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-all-about-the-complex/182383157/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-5k/182383209/https://www.newspapers.com/article/concord-monitor-reward-in-place-2022/182383292/ https://www.wmur.com/article/concord-new-hampshire-judy-lord/64828305https://patch.com/new-hampshire/concord-nh/still-unsolved-judy-lord-was-killed-concord-gardens-50-years-ago Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-simpler-time-true-crime--6665681/support.

In the early morning hours of August 19, 1984, a Virginia State Trooper answered his front door and was ambushed. In an attack lasting no more than three minutes, he was fatally stabbed more than 40 times in front of his wife, brother, and sister-in-law, as well as his toddler daughter – who had been asleep in bed with him prior to the attack. From the over-the-top disguises left behind at the crime scene to suspects no one would expect, the case almost feels like something out of a movie. For Johnny and those who loved him, it was heartbreakingly real. His little girl grew up to follow in his footsteps into a career in law enforcement, and today she remains determined to uncover the truth about her father’s killer or killers.TIPS: FBI at 1-800-225-5324 or the VSP at (703) 803-2676.
