Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year, we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week, we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Beth (0:17)
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but the center of it.

Hi, friends. We are excited to dive deeper into Joshua 21:43,45 with you all today. Yes.
Beth (0:43)
So, Beth, do you want to start us off by telling us where this passage fits in the biblical story?
Alexa (0:48)
Of course. So the passage that we're studying this week comes toward the end of the book of Joshua. So after Joshua had brought the second generation of Israelites into the Promised Land, and they had defeated the Canaanites who were living there, and, and they were finally settling down in the land that God had given them. As this passage says, they were finally given rest. And so what this moment is, is it's fulfilling all that God has been doing in Israel since he called Abraham back in Genesis 12. And so we see that the people of Israel have already become a great nation, which actually began in Exodus, where we saw that their numbers had grown and they had become a great people instead of just a small family. Uh, and then they were enslaved in Egypt, and then they were delivered from that slavery and taken to the land that God had reserved for them. But they were outside of that land for a while. So we remember everything we've talked about so far, about how they rebelled against God. And then the first generation had to wander for 40 years. And then finally the second generation, we read all those passages in Deuteronomy, preparing for them for this moment where they would finally enter into the Promised Land. And so after all of that time, such a long time coming, they're finally in the Promised land. Joshua was Moses's successor, and he led them there. And now they are finally settling down and finding rest.
Beth (2:07)
I bet that felt like such a relief to the Israelites. You know, their journey to get to the Promised Land was so long, and it took a lot for them to be able to even claim the land. But how encouraging must it have been for the Israelites to look around them and see how God did it? He did what he promised, and now they're able to rest in this land that God has given them. Okay, so what about God's character? What does this passage teach us about God?
