Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B (0:17)
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but but the center of it. Hey, friends. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host, Beth.

Hey everyone. Today we're going to be making the Christ connection between the verses that we looked at this week, Ruth 4, 14, 15 and John 10:10. But to get some more context, we were asked in our study today to read all of John 10, 7, 15. So, Alexa, do you want to start off our discussion?
B (0:55)
Yes. So earlier this week, we studied Ruth 4, 14, 15 and learned how God provided a Kingsman Redeemer for Naomi and Ruth. This provided provision and protection for both Naomi and Ruth. But God also provided for Naomi and Ruth in a unique way by giving Ruth a son, Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse, who was the father of David. But from David's line came Jesus, the ultimate king. So God was physically providing for Ruth and Naomi, but he was also spiritually providing for them by making it so that from Ruth's offspring would come the one who would bring life for all people who would place their trust in him, Jesus. If we look back at Ruth 4, 14, 15, the woman tell Naomi that God has renewed her life and sustained her through not only Boaz, but through the son birth to Ruth in Boaz. So continuing the family line and having an heir was extremely important in biblical times. And so God is faithful to give Naomi the provisions she needs through Boaz and this heir. But the life given to Naomi was only a glimpse of the life that would come from this heir's offspring.

Yeah, I just love how this story shows how God provides for Naomi and Ruth, all of Israel and for the whole world through this one story and event. It really shows how he holds all things together and cares about individuals as well as the entire earth. So tell us, what does all of this have to do with what we read in John 10, 7, 15?
B (2:24)
Well, in John 10, 7, 15, we see the life that Jesus brings. Jesus says that he has come not to just bring life, but abundant life. And thinking back to the definition of abundance, that we talked about on Wednesday. For Jesus to give us abundant life is to give us overflowing and plentiful life. It's a life that's. That's full and joyful and everlasting. This life that Jesus gives us is both physical and spiritual. So Jesus speaks these words after saying that he is the gate in which his sheep or believers entered, enter into and experience rest. And his words come before him, saying that he is the good shepherd, which further shows us the provision and protection we have in Christ. There is a physical reality to what Jesus says about the abundant life he gives us because he does care for our physical needs. But ultimately, Jesus gives us spiritual life in that he gives us daily joy, peace, and hope. And he has given us everlasting life, which means that when we die, we go on to live with Christ forever. So the provision and protection that Boaz gave Naomi pointed forward to Jesus, who is our ultimate provider, and he's also our ultimate redeemer. He's redeemed us and set us free from our sin and restored us in our relationship with God. And now we walk in the life that he has given us through that redemption.
