Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa (0:17)
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it. Hi friends. Welcome back to another week of A Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and my co host for this week is Emma. Hey Emma.
Emma (0:38)
Hi everyone.
Alexa (0:39)
This week we are studying job 1, 20, 22 and Matthew 26, 36, 46. And we're going to learn about Jesus as the obedient servant who suffered for us. So today we are going to be discussing the annotation day on job one 2022. So Emma, could you read that for us?
Emma (0:57)
Absolutely. So this is job one, verses 20 through 22. Then job stood up, tore his robe and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped, saying, naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will leave this life. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Throughout all this, Job did not sin or blame God for anything. Alexa, could you share some of your annotation takeaways with us from this passage?
Alexa (1:27)
Yeah, I really enjoy annotating this passage because I think it's such a powerful passage of scripture that speaks to our situations of suffering. So one of the prompts asked what Job's response to his suffering is in verse 20, and I think it's one of grief that leads to worship. So in verse 20 it tells us that Job tore his robe and shaved his head. So both of those actions were signs of grief and mourning. But then the rest of verse 20 tells us that Job fell to the ground and worshiped, which I think is just an amazing response that even in Job's immense grief, he postures himself before the Lord in total worship.
Emma (2:08)
Absolutely. I. Whenever I read the story of Job, I am always in awe about his response, especially when we kind of know the context of what has just happened to him and how every single thing basically he had was taken away from him. And the fact that, like you said, he gives himself the space to grieve and mourn and then immediately goes into praising the Lord and trusting in God's character and trusting in God's goodness, and it makes me wonder how often I do that when I am faced with a situation of difficulty and hardship. And so I am just I'm always in awe of Job's character and the fact that he gives glory to the Lord despite his circumstances. Alexa, was there anything else from this passage that you took away?
