Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus. Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but the center of it. Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of A Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host for the week, Antonisha.
Antonisha
Hey friends, welcome back. So so far this week we've looked at Psalm 110,4 and now we want to turn to the New Testament and study Hebrews 7, 11, 17. We're going to start off by discussing the annotation day on Hebrews 7, 11, 17. So Alexa, could you read that passage for us?
Alexa
Now, if perfection came through the Levitical priesthood, for on the basis of it the people received the law, what further need was there for another priest to here said to be according to the order of me and not according to the order of Aaron. For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must be a change of law as well. For the one these things are spoken about belonged to a different tribe. No one from it has served at the altar. Now it is evident that our Lord came from Judah and Moses said nothing about that tribe concerning priests. And this becomes clearer if another priest like Mel appears who did not become a priest based on a legal regulation about physical descent, but based on the power of an indestructible life. For it has been testified you are a priest forever according to the order of melodic.
Antonisha
Thank you. Alexa, do you want to share with us what you took away from this annotation day?
Alexa
Yeah, I thought I would try and tackle the first two prompts in the annotation day. So the first prompt asks us to highlight any words or phrases that point to Christ. I highlighted the phrase our Lord came from Judah because we know that Jesus came from Judah's line. I also highlighted the phrase if another priest like Melchizedek appears, which I think points us to Jesus because he is another. Another priest like Meltek, a better one actually, which we're going to talk about tomorrow. And then also power of an indestructible life in verse 16, because Jesus is eternal and he conquered death through his. His resurrection. So for the second prompt about noting any of God's attributes in this passage. That one was a little tricky. But going back to what I said yesterday about God being faithful to give the Israelites priests, the phrase was for on the basis of it, the people received the law, and verse 11 just stood out to me. So God used the Levitical priesthood to give people the law, which showed the Israelites how to walk in obedience with God. And I believe we talked about this in a previous episode, but it really is loving of God to give his people specific instructions on how to obey him. And this obedience was for their ultimate good and flourishing. So so God is really gracious and loving to use the Levitical priesthood to give God's people the law and ultimately a relationship with Himself.

I love all those notes you made, Alexa, and I love the way that Scripture works together. This is actually one of my favorite stories in the Bible, and I think this particular narrative about Melchizedek really highlights why it's so important to read the Bible in context and as a cohesive story. The narrative about Melchizedek is all the way back in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, and then it takes us to Psalms and then all the way to Hebrews to really discover Melchizedek's significance in the biblical history and his connection to Christ. Friends, we hope you're enjoying this week as well. Join us back here tomorrow as we Continue studying Psalm 110:4 and Hebrews 7, 11, 17.

Episode: Season 4, Week 32 Day 3: Annotating Hebrews 7:11-17
Release Date: August 6, 2025
Host: Alexa
Co-Host: Antonisha
Transcript Timestamp Range: 00:38 – 03:45
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Alexa and Antonisha continue their deep dive into the study Christ in All of Scripture. Focusing on Season 4's reading plan, they explore Hebrews 7:11-17, examining its connections to the Old Testament and its portrayal of Christ.
Antonisha kicks off the session by reading Hebrews 7:11-17, setting the stage for their annotation and discussion:
"Now, if perfection came through the Levitical priesthood, for on the basis of it the people received the law, what further need was there for another priest to be declared? It would be necessary to have another priest, in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron. For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. They are both related to the former, since the one who first sanctified by sacrifice falls under the latter. In the one case, the former priests were made; but what the latter priests are made, the composition of the power of an indestructible life has been testified. For it becomes clear that the fellowship of these things is ours, and this is why He is declared a priest forever."
Alexa delves into the annotation process, addressing the first two prompts of their study:
Identifying Christ-Pointing Phrases:
Noting God's Attributes:
Antonisha adds depth to the discussion by highlighting the interconnectedness of Scripture:
"The narrative about Melchizedek is all the way back in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, and then it takes us to Psalms and then all the way to Hebrews to really discover Melchizedek's significance in the biblical history and his connection to Christ." ([03:09])
She emphasizes the importance of reading the Bible in context to fully appreciate how figures like Melchizedek prefigure Christ.
Alexa wraps up the episode by inviting listeners to continue their journey through Scripture in the following episodes:
"Join us back here tomorrow as we continue studying Psalm 110:4 and Hebrews 7:11-17." ([03:09])
