Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus. Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but but the center of it. Hey everyone. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host for the week, Scott.
B
Hey everyone.
A
So far this week we have looked at Proverbs 1, 7, and now we want to turn to the New Testament and study Colossians 2, 2, 3. So we're going to spend some time today talking about the annotation day on Colossians 2:2,3. But before we start, Scott, can you read those verses for us?
B
Yeah, we'd love to. I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God's mystery. Christ. In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
A
Awesome. Thanks, Scott. Can you share with us any annotation takeaways that you had on Colossians 2, 2, 3?
B
Sure. So for the third prompt, one of the things I immediately caught was a few similar words between Colossians and Proverbs. There's wisdom, of course, but also understanding and. And knowledge. All of which appear either in Proverbs 1, 7 or at least in the first seven verses of Proverbs. And like with Proverbs, I think what we see here is that wisdom, knowledge and understanding aren't primarily intellectual qualities, but moral ones. Like notice how Paul connects these with love. These are marks of a lifestyle that is characterized by love.
A
Yeah, that's super interesting, Scott. I. I really love that connection between wisdom and love. That's cool to see there. What else stood out to you?
B
Something else similar that I said in the other annotation day, but like, when it comes to attributes of God that we see here, I had to think about that one for a second. But here's what stood out to me. It was a phrase joined together in love. Now, to be clear, Paul is not describing God here. He's describing how we ought to live. But again, we are called as Christians to reflect God with our lives. And like with Proverbs 1, I think we see here that that following God's ways, growing in knowledge and wisdom will result in a life of love which reflects our God because our God is a God of love.
A
Yeah, that's both really encouraging and challenging to me because it it motivates me to grow in wisdom so that I can be loving God and others. But it also reminds me that my love for God and others is going to be affected if I'm not pursuing wisdom, if I'm not seeking to walk in God's ways. So that just all the more gives me a reason to keep pursuing obedience to God. So yeah, thanks so much, Scott. Well, that's all that we have for you today. We hope that you join us tomorrow as we discuss how Proverbs 1:7 and Colossians 2:2 3 point us to Christ. Thank you for listening to today's episode of a Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Alexa and Scott delve into Season 4 of their Christ in All of Scripture study plan. The focus is on understanding how Jesus is intricately woven throughout both the Old and New Testaments, highlighting His centrality in the biblical narrative.
This session centers on Colossians 2:2-3, where the hosts explore the depth of Paul's message and its connection to previous studies in Proverbs. The aim is to uncover the profound relationship between wisdom, knowledge, and love, both as intellectual and moral virtues that reflect Christ's character.
At the outset, Scott reads Colossians 2:2-3:
"I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God's mystery. Christ, in him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

1. Connection Between Colossians and Proverbs
Scott highlights the recurring themes between Colossians and Proverbs, noting the presence of words like "wisdom," "understanding," and "knowledge."
"There's wisdom, of course, but also understanding and knowledge. All of which appear either in Proverbs 1, 7 or at least in the first seven verses of Proverbs."
(01:15)
He elucidates that these attributes are not merely intellectual but are fundamentally moral qualities. They are intertwined with love, showcasing a lifestyle shaped by God's love rather than just cognitive abilities.
2. Reflecting God's Attributes
The discussion shifts to how believers are called to mirror God's attributes through their lives. Scott emphasizes:
"Paul is not describing God here. He's describing how we ought to live. But again, we are called as Christians to reflect God with our lives. And like with Proverbs 1, I think we see here that following God's ways, growing in knowledge and wisdom will result in a life of love which reflects our God because our God is a God of love."

This reflection underscores the transformative power of wisdom and knowledge in fostering a loving and obedient Christian life.
Alexa shares her personal takeaways, expressing both encouragement and challenge:

She articulates the need for continuous growth in wisdom as a foundation for genuine love and obedience, reinforcing the episode's central themes.
