Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year, we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ and all of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa (0:43)
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but the center of it. Friends, welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm joined by my co host, Beth.

Hey everyone. So this week we have looked at Isaiah 42, 6, 7, Isaiah 49, 6, and John 8:12, and we have learned that Jesus is God's promised servant who brings light to the nations. So now we want to spend some time considering how it is that we can apply what we've learned about Jesus this week to our everyday lives. So, Alexa, how do you plan on applying these passages?
Alexa (1:23)
Yeah, you know, this week has reminded me of Matthew 5, 14, 16, where Jesus says about believers, you are the light of the world and to let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. We have such a special responsibility as believers to show the world our love for Christ and to encourage others to come to know Christ by our actions. And so I really want to take that responsibility seriously. That responsibility causes me to think about my actions and to ask myself, am I acting in such a way that I'm being a light to others for the gospel, or am I acting in ways that are contrary to the gospel and that are actually leading people away from Christ? The other day I had our porch light on and when I looked at our glass door, there were like a ton of bugs all over it because they were drawn to the light. It's honestly kind of gross, but it made me think about how. How much light draws. And I want to be the kind of person who loves Jesus so much that people are drawn to me because they recognize Christ in me and they want to know him as a result. So that means I need to take my obedience to God seriously so that I'm walking in a way that causes my light to shine. And I think that obedience will come from taking the time to be with Jesus. Because Jesus is the light of the world, we are able to be the light of the world. And it's by spending time with Jesus in prayer and in his were that we look more like Jesus. It's by basking in his light that we are encouraged to keep following him. And as we do, we will walk in his commands and be a light to those around us in the process. So I don't want to keep the light that Jesus has given me to myself. I want to share it so others will come to know him as well. I love that.
