Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it. Hey friends, welcome back to another week of Year in the Bible. I'm Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.

Hi everyone. This week we will be studying Habakkuk 2, 4 and Romans 1, 16, 17. And we're going to learn that Christ gives believers his righteousness by faith. So to start off our study this week we're going to be discussing our annotations on Habakkuk 2, 4, which reads, look, his ego is inflated. He is without integrity, but the righteous one will live by his faith. So Alexa, can you tell us about your annotations?
B
Yeah. This verse was interesting to annotate because of its length, but one of the prompts that I thought was helpful was the prompt that asked us who is speaking in this verse. This verse starts off by saying his ego is inflated and he is without integrity. So this shows us that this verse is in the middle of a conversation that we are in need of some context to understand. We'll give more on this context tomorrow. But if we look at the surrounding verses of Habakkuk 2. Four, we see that it's God talking to the prophet Habakkuk. Habakkuk is not the person being talked about. Otherwise the verse would say your ego is inflated. Nor do we see any mention of the Israelites in this passage. So that helps us surmise that God isn't addressing his people. In this verse, one of the prompts helps us out some more by letting us know that it's likely the Chaldeans or the Babylonians who are the ones whose ego is inflated and are without integrity.
A
Yeah, that's helpful. I was definitely pretty confused at the start of this verse, so I do appreciate getting some more clarity there. Is there anything else that you think that we should talk about today?
B
Yeah, there isn't too much else to share, but I do think the comparison we see in this verse is worth mentioning. The but in this verse shows us that a contrast is being made. The people, likely the Chaldeans or the Babylonians have an inflated ego and are without integrity in comparison. The righteous person lives by his faith without getting too much into interpretation. That contrast generally helps us see that there are two ways to be guided by your own understanding, which by the language used in this verse shows us that our understanding is flawed or we can be guided by faith and it's only the righteous person who has this faith and will be guided by this faith.
A
Yeah, that's really helpful. I am excited to talk about this verse some more tomorrow. I feel like faith is something that we haven't actually talked that much about these last few weeks and months of this study, so I'm excited to dive deeper into this concept and this passage tomorrow and we will see all of you then.
