Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.

Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but but the center of it. Hey friends. Welcome back to A Year in the Bible. I'm Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.

Hey everyone. So far this week we have looked at Habakkuk 2, 4 and now we want to turn to the New Testament and we're going to study Romans 1, 16, 17. So let me go ahead and read those verses for us. For I am not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. First to the Jew and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. Just as it is written, the righteous will live by faith. So Alexa, how did it go annotating this passage?
B (1:05)
It was good. This is such a powerful passage and I think about it a lot, especially verse 16. I loved how one of the prompts asked us to define the Gospel. I think as Christians, the word gospel is something we say and hear all the time, but we might not always think about defining it. So my simple definition of the Gospel is the good news that God sent his son to die in our place and rise from the grave, giving us forgiveness and eternal life. I love how Paul speaks about the Gospel in this passage. We see that it's the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes that truth is why Paul says he isn't ashamed of the gospel.

Yeah, that's so good. And thank you for breaking down what the gospel is. You're right that that is one of those terms that you hear all the time. And so it's nice to remember what it actually means when we see it in Scripture. Is there anything else that you wanted to share about the annotations for this passage?
B (1:58)
I think one thing to mention is how we see God's attributes in this verse. I think one attribute we see kind of implicitly is God's grace. It's because of God's grace that he provides salvation for those who believe. It's also God's grace that he makes the salvation possible for all people. And we see that in Paul's words of first to the Jew went also to the Greek. We see God's power explicitly mentioned. As Paul says, the gospel is the power of God for salvation. And then we also see God's righteousness spoken about in verse 17. As Paul says, the gospel is a righteousness of God that is revealed from faith to faith. What does that mean? We will talk about more tomorrow.
