Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire biblical story, but but the center of it.
A
Hey, friends, welcome back to A Year in the Bible. We are wrapping up this year by reflecting on all that we have learned throughout our study.
B
Yes. So since I shared my reflections yesterday, I would love to hear your reflections today. Beth. So to start us off, can you share with us something that stood out to you about Jesus as you went through the study?
A
I love this question, but my answer might sound a little bit like a cop out. I think that what really stood out to me in the study is about how Jesus is God. It's one of those things that I so often take for granted. But slowing down for a whole year and really dwelling on how Christ fulfilled so many things in the Bible just highlighted for me how none of that would be possible if Jesus himself was not God, if he wasn't the creator. But he is. He's the God who was present during creation. He was the God who was orchestrating the life of Abraham and all of Israel. And he is the God who Micah and Isaiah and Ezekiel and all of the other prophets were speaking about. Jesus is not just a good teacher or a charismatic man. He is the God of the universe and he holds all things together in his hands.
B
I love that. Beth. I think sometimes we can just focus on Jesus when we read the New Testament. And so we miss out on seeing how Jesus is present in the Old Testament as well, which the study helped us to do so well. I think when we consider Jesus in both the Old and New Testament, we're reminded, like you're saying, that Jesus is God, that yes, he became human and walked among us, but also that he has always existed, shares equal power and glory with God, and He rules and reigns in heaven. Okay, what about the story of Scripture? What did this study teach you about the overall story of Scripture?
A
I love how this study revealed just how utterly complex the biblical story is, which in fact just makes it more beautiful because it reflects the messiness and complexity of real life, which is because it is real life. It shows us just how involved the God has been with the story of his people throughout history. He is not a God who is going to just tell you how things are and then leave you to deal with them. He is going to tell a beautiful and compelling story that is woven into the universe and centers on himself coming down to earth in order to have a relationship with us. And he tells the story this way to encourage us to really dig into him and his character and to take time to understand what all that he has done is doing and what he will do through Christ in eternity.
B
And yeah, that's great. I love seeing how God enters into the messy lives of his people and brings about redemption and restoration. As we went through Scripture, there were so many times when it would make sense for God to give up on his people. But time and time again, God continued to be faithful, to work through his people's actions and circumstances to accomplish his good purposes and ultimately provide Christ. And it's encouraging to think that this story that we see throughout Scripture is a story that we're brought into as believers. We have been saved by Christ, have been brought into God's family, and now we wait for Christ to return and for all of creation to be redeemed. And as we wait for that day, we can rest in the relationship that we have with God, the God who works in our lives to do really great things for his glory. So Bet, how do you think this study is going to impact your own study of Scripture moving forward?
A
Yeah, so I think that it is really going to allow the Old Testament to come more alive. This is very practical, but I think this study really gave me a high level understanding of the Old Testament story and it gave me specific information regarding the context of almost every single book in the Old Testament. So having only two passages a week really allowed the context of some of these more complex Old Testament books to really begin to sink in in a whole new way, which I think is really going to impact my future Bible study because I can have that context in my head already as I go into reading some of those Old Testament books again in the future.
B
Yes, that's so true. I definitely think that the study is going to help a lot of us appreciate the Old Testament just so much more.
