Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of Scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
B
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but the center of it. Hey everyone. Hello everyone. Welcome back to A Year in the Bible. I'm joined with my co host Beth.
A
Hey friends. Today we are going to talk about the annotation day for the New Testament passage, which is Acts 2:22, 24. These verses say, fellow Israelites, listen to these words. This Jesus of Nazareth was a man attested to you by God with miracles, wonders and signs that God did among you through him. Just as you yourselves know, though he was delivered up according to God's determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail him to a cross and kill him. God raised him up, ending the pains of death because it was not possible for him to be held by death. So, Alexa, do you want to share your thoughts on today's annotation?
B
Yeah, I really enjoyed annotating this passage because there's just so much to learn from it. I'm going to focus on two of the prompts, starting with the prompt about God's attributes. The first attribute I saw was God's power. And I think we see God's power a couple ways in this passage. The first is in verse 22 when Peter says that God did miracles, wonders and signs through Jesus. So that demonstrates God's power because God did some really amazing things through Jesus during Jesus's ministry. And then in verse 24, we read that God raised Jesus up, which refers to Christ's resurrection. And this speaks to God's power because it truly is a mighty work to raise Jesus from the dead. And we could say that that's maybe God's biggest display of power.
A
I think so. Raising Jesus from the dead absolutely shows God's power. What was the other attribute that stood out to you?
B
I know I'm repeating myself the past couple days, but we really are seeing an emphasis on God's sovereignty, which truly is incredible. In verse 23, Peter says that Jesus was delivered up by God's determined plan. So while it was the people who nailed Jesus to the cross, it was God's plan for Jesus to be delivered up in this way. But it's also God's plan to raise Jesus from the dead to make it possible for Jesus to defeat death and bring life for all that place their faith in him. So once again we see God's sovereignty on display as he works through Jesus's death to not only raise Jesus from the dead, but also provide a spiritual death and resurrection for believers.
A
Yeah, I don't think talking about God's sovereignty really ever gets old, so don't apologize for repeating yourself. It's so encouraging to me to know that there is someone who is greater than me, who's holding everything together. You said there were two prompts you wanted to talk about. What was the other one?
B
Well, I've already touched on the answer to this, but I really enjoyed the last prompt which asks us to circle the result of Christ's resurrection, which is Jesus ending the pains of death. I just love that phrase and it points me back to the Garden of Eden and the death that sin brought. And it reminds Me of Romans 6:23 that says for the wages of sin is death. So we all deserve death because of our sin. But it's through Jesus that the pains of death are vanquished, as Paul finishes in Romans 6:23. But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. So it really is just so amazing what Jesus's death and resurrection accomplished for us.
A
That is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing, Alexa. It's just really encouraging me right now, so I appreciate it. Tomorrow we're going to go deeper into this verse and look a little bit more at the context and the Christ connection. So we will see you all then.

Episode Title: S4: Week 8 Day 3: Annotating Acts 2:22–24
Release Date: February 19, 2025
In this episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, hosts Alexa and Beth delve into Acts 2:22–24, unpacking its profound theological implications and exploring the attributes of God as revealed through this passage. The focus lies on understanding how these verses highlight Jesus Christ's central role in both the Old and New Testaments, aligning with the podcast’s overarching theme of Christ in all of Scripture.
Alexa opens the discussion by presenting the selected passage from Acts 2:22–24:
Acts 2:22–24 (NIV):
"Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him."
Beth highlights the attribute of God’s power as evident in the passage. She points out two main instances:
Miracles, Wonders, and Signs (Verse 22): "God did miracles, wonders, and signs through Jesus," showcasing His omnipotence during Jesus's ministry.
"God did some really amazing things through Jesus during Jesus's ministry." [00:45]
Resurrection (Verse 24): "God raised him from the dead," underscoring the ultimate demonstration of divine power.
"Raising Jesus from the dead absolutely shows God's power." [02:01]
The discussion further delves into God’s sovereignty, a recurring theme in the passage:
Divine Plan (Verse 23): "Delivered up according to God's determined plan and foreknowledge," indicating that even amidst human actions, God's sovereign will prevails.
"It was God's plan for Jesus to be delivered up in this way." [02:07]
Resurrection as Sovereign Act: The resurrection not only signifies victory over death but also God's masterful orchestration of salvation.
"God's sovereignty on display as he works through Jesus's death to not only raise Jesus from the dead but also provide a spiritual death and resurrection for believers." [02:07]
Beth touches upon the result of Christ's resurrection, emphasizing its redemptive impact:
Ending the Pains of Death: The resurrection signifies the end of death's sting, aligning with the promise in Romans 6:23 regarding eternal life.
"Jesus ending the pains of death... the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." [03:03]
Connection to the Garden of Eden: This victory over death addresses the original fall, offering restoration and hope.
"It points me back to the Garden of Eden and the death that sin brought." [03:03]
Alexa reflects on the comforting aspect of God's sovereignty:
"It's so encouraging to me to know that there is someone who is greater than me, who's holding everything together." [02:47]
This sentiment underscores the personal and relational aspect of understanding God's overarching control and care.
As the episode wraps up, Alexa previews the next installment:
