Welcome to A Year in the Bible with daily grace. This year we want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through our study, Christ in All of Scripture. Each week we will dive deeply into two passages of scripture, one from the Old Testament and one from the new, seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.
Alexa
Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present throughout the entire Biblical story, but with the center of it. Hey everyone. Welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co host Beth.
Beth
Hi everyone. It is another Friday and so today we are going to talk about how we can apply all that we have been studying this week to our daily lives. Yes.
Alexa
So I would love to hear from you, Beth, how you're planning on applying what you learned this week.
Beth
Yeah, so this week's passages as we saw, really focused on the eternal and self existent nature of God and, and therefore the eternal and self existent nature of Christ. And so I think it can be really easy to learn about these really big kind of otherworldly attributes of God and think, oh that's cool that God is like that, but then never really think about what it actually means for us. And so I'm thankful for today's application day and the application questions in the study that really asked me to sit down and think about what it means that God is eternal and how that impacts my life. See, so yeah, here is kind of my thoughts on what that means for me. And so first I can see myself in light of God's eternal nature, which is really humbling to think about. See that I am incredibly finite compared to God's infinite nature. I've been alive for 29 years and that's really not that long compared to the fact that God has existed since before time began. Sometimes this actually makes my head hurt when I think about how it infinite and eternal God actually is. There never was a moment where he was not, but I clearly had a moment where I came into being and I will die one day. And so yeah, it's just really humbling to put me in perspective compared to God and what he knows. And so what this does is it helps me see how I can trust Him. So it's like times whenever you talk to people who are way older than you and you have a moment when you realize like, oh wow, this person has lived a lot more life and has a ton more experience than I do and I should listen to them and I should trust them. And yeah, so it's like that, except you multiply that knowledge and experience by like a zillion because God is infinite and he's always been in existence. And so we really can trust him because he really has infinite wisdom and infinite knowledge and infinite sovereignty, which is really cool. But then what's even crazier than that is that this eternal and infinite self existent God desires a relationship with me. That's the thing that really gets me is that God in all of his eternality and his infinite nature has a desire to be in relationship with me, a finite, mortal and sinful human. And because of this, he sent Jesus so that I could see him and I could know him in his vast nature. And so yeah, so the very nature of God was revealed to us in human form through Christ. And so yeah, I just think that that's really, really crazy. But how that particularly impacts my life is that it shows me that God is so much bigger than me, that he can handle every part of my life, all of the stress of the world, all of the things that I'm going through, which when I think about all of the things that God and His infinite nature has been handling throughout the existence of time, yeah, it makes my problems seem totally manageable to Him. They're not manageable to me, but they're definitely manageable to Him. And I know that he can handle them. But I also know that he cares deeply about me and that assures me that even though my problems seem small compared to all of the other things that he's dealt with, he still hears me when I pray and he still comforts me when I need it. No matter how big or small the things that I'm going through are.
Alexa
Oh yeah, that's all so good and just really, really encouraging. Beth, like you, I was really thankful for the opportunity to reflect on God's unchanging and internal character. I feel like I maybe reflect on God's attributes of being loving and faithful, but don't always reflect on him being self existent and eternal. For me, I think reflecting on God's unchanging and internal character helps me to look beyond this life. It can be just really easy to get caught up in what's happening on this side of eternity. But this world is only temporary. As followers of Jesus, we know that we are going to live forever because we belong to the One who lives forever. And that not only challenges me to not get so caught up in the here and now, but also to look to and long for eternity as I live on earth, delighting in the fact that one day I'm going to live with my eternal God forever. We are going to transition into a time of prayer now, so Beth is going to read some prayer prompts for us and after each one, just go ahead and respond in prayer to the Lord.
Beth
Reflect on God's eternal nature. Allow your mind to be blessed alone by God's vastness. Thank God for revealing Himself to us through the person of Jesus so that we can better know him and enter into relationship with Him. Ask God to comfort you in whatever areas of your life you need comfort.
