Hey, welcome to another episode of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace. I'm Shelby and I'm here with Paul, and we're talking through Exodus chapters 27 through 29. Paul, walk us through these chapters.
A
Yeah, so we're getting into the details here about a lot of really specific things. And, you know, I think it's important to just state outright, like, sometimes our eyes can kind of glaze over when we're reading scripture like this. And, you know, we know from second Timothy, he tells us that all scriptures God breathed and it's all profitable, right? So it can often leave us wondering, you know, what is a tabernacle? And these priests, what is it? How is it profitable for me, Right? But I think there's some really specific things that are important to notice here. And what all of these details signify to us first is it shows us God's holiness. And I think it's important to state, like, the way that things are done before God matters. Right? He didn't just set up his presence in any old tent. Right. He actually built this specific place for his people. Priests couldn't wear just any old clothes or, you know, sacrifice in any old way. Right. He wanted a very specific way that was particular to him and for them to do it rightly because he is holy. And, you know, the way that we as human beings try to live our lives is often unworthy of him. And so he gives a really specific instructions for them to be successful in relationship with him. And secondly, I think it's important to just realize and looking at the whole of scripture, realizing that the priesthood is really important, actually, and understanding the priesthood will understand, help you understand other parts of Scripture even better. You know, in 2812, it says that Aaron bears the names of the Israelites before the Lord for remembrance. And this is a phrase here that, you know, kind of talks about what he's doing quite literally. But that phrase, you know, bringing their name before the Lord for remembrance, it's essentially saying that he's calling upon God's blessings and provision for the Israelites, right? And so the priests are seen sort of like as these intercessors, right? They come between the people and God. And, you know, I think just to show how important their role was, think about how God responds when they aren't doing their job correctly. Malachi 2 is a really good example of this. If you want to look up a passage specifically where he has some pretty strong judgments when the priests aren't doing their job well. And so they're really, really important. But I think overall, like in chapter 29, at the end, in verse 45 through 46, God says, I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God, and they will know that I am the Lord, their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. And so all of this, again, the purpose is that God can be with his people. The priests provide a way, despite sin, for God's presence to be with them. And that's so important, that's so valuable. And it's something that, again, we experience today that God is with us and there is a way for us to be with Him.
B
Yeah, let's dig into that a little bit more because we have a great high priest in Christ. Can you make that connection for us?
A
Yeah, yeah, that's right. In Hebrews is super important to this. The book of Hebrews expands a lot on what it means for Jesus to be our great high priest. So we talked about Jesus as the Passover lamb, that he's the sacrifice, that. That covers us. Right. But he's also our priest. He's also the one that performs the sacrifice in a way, the one that stands between us and God and mediates our relationship in spite of our sin. And so I think just the better you understand the priesthood, the more you can appreciate who Jesus is and what he did for you. And so if that is the only reason these passages are valuable and good to read.
B
Yeah, absolutely. This is going to lay a foundation for how we're going to talk about priesthood throughout our time. Leviticus, Paul, scripture this year. So thankful for these passages, even though they might have been a little bit tedious at times. We're laying a foundation and understanding that we're going to draw on and is ultimately going to point us to Christ. So thanks for walking us through that, Paul. We'll see you back tomorrow. Tomorrow. To continue in the book of Exodus.
