Hey, it is Shelby and Paul here. And we're wrapping up the book of Exodus today. Can you believe it, Paul? So, okay, we are going through chapters 35 through 40, the last chapters in the book. What should we know as we read these chapters?
B
Yeah, so we get a lot of repeated content here. If you've been reading faithfully, you'll recognize a lot of what we're reading today in previous readings and even verbatim. And so that might kind of beg the question of, like, why, you know, why are we just repeating what we said before? Well, before we were reading God giving these instructions to Moses, and now we're reading Israel actually doing the things that God commanded Moses to tell them to do. And I think it points out something important to us about Israel is that, you know, a few days ago, we talked about how when Israel obeys the law, they're blessed, and when they don't, they're cursed. Right. So now, in response to this golden calf scenario, we just heard about where they were very clearly disobeying. They are now obeying God's commands. They're building the things that they are told to build in the way that they are told to build it. And, you know, as the. The study actually points this out, that we have several repetitions of them doing these things as the Lord commanded. Right. So they're doing it as God told them to do. They're not doing it in their own way. They're not making up their own new way of building the tabernacle. They're following God's commands. And so Israel is. Is being obedient. That's the thing that probably is the biggest thing to take away here.
A
Yeah, I love that. And it is a great way to end this book after we've seen them complain and waver in their faithfulness throughout. We also see kind of a wrap up of this theme throughout the book of God being with his people. Can you talk a little bit about that?
B
Yeah. So I think as we kind of read these chapters, it's just an opportunity to reflect on that fact that God has been with his people. Think about all the way back to Exodus 1, right? The people are literally oppressed just in this horrible situation. Moses is fleeing Egypt, Right. And now God has brought them all the way here to where his presence is with them. They've built this magnificent tabernacle for him to reside within. And, you know, he didn't just deliver them, but he also gave them specific instructions on how to be in relationship with Him. Right. And honestly, I think A good illustration for this is like, imagine, you know, your friend gives you a cake recipe, and they put it in an envelope and they hand it to you and say, this is the best cake recipe ever. So you're so excited. You're like, okay, I'm going to go home and bake this cake. And you open it up and you open it and it just says, bake the cake. That's all it says. You're probably not going to make a very good cake because you don't have.
A
Any poor cake on my behalf.
B
Exactly. Yeah. You don't have instructions. And so God is not doing that. He's giving them specific instructions on how to be successful and how to have a good relationship with Him. And I think that just reminds us how much God loves us to give us such a clear picture of what it looks like to obey Him. And really, that's what the whole Bible is. Right. It's a very clear and direct letter to us of how we are to obey God. And so we're reminded of all the lengths that God went to to be in relationship with his people. And I think that just reminds us of the lengths that God went to be in relationship with us with Jesus. He didn't just deliver Israel, he came to earth as a human. Right. Like, that's. We shouldn't let the effect of that be lost on us. Right. And ultimately, you know, he is our true and better sacrifice, our better tabernacle, our better priest, and all of the things in Exodus, the deliverance, the tabernacle, all that points forward to Jesus.
A
Yeah, man. Thank you for guiding us through the Book of Exodus. Things I'm going to remember about God's character, His whole holiness, his compassion, just the. The practicality of the instruction that he gave. But what I'm also going to remember is just God's desire to be with his people, and that include delivering them from Egypt, but also dwelling among them. So it's been a great book. We learned so much walking through it. We'll be back tomorrow to talk about Leviticus. If you're not excited about the Book of Leviticus, I understand what. But I want to encourage you to join us. It'll be myself and cj, Another amazing member of our Daily Grace team, walking you through that book. And I promise we're going to help you understand and enjoy reading it. We'll see you for Leviticus tomorrow.
