Hey, everybody. Welcome to ABA Inside Track, the podcast that's like reading in your car, but safer. I'm your host, Robert Perry Crews. With me, as always, are my fabulous co hosts.
C
Oh, hey there, Robert Perry Crews. This is Jacqueline McDonald coming to you live from your own house.
B
Wow.
A
And it's me, Diana Perry Cruz. I'm also in this house.
B
Wow.
C
She lives here?
B
Do you live here? Well, welcome. This is our podcast about behavior analysis and behavior analytic research. This is our little old podcast, y'. All. I don't know. That's what it sounded like. I'm trying that out. No, not gonna do that. All right. In any case, it is a podcast. It is about behavior analysis and behavior analytic research. And every week we do pick a topic and discuss it at length. Unless it's a preview, which is what this is. This is our April 2026 preview. Whether it's coming out at the end of the month for our Patreon subscribers or the beginning of the month for everyone else in the world. We're going to be discussing what's coming up on ABA Inside Track as well as a couple other fun tidbits and bon moves, if you will.
A
So I won't.
B
No. Okay. Diana won't be doing that, but she will be telling us all the fun episodes that we have coming out this April 2026.
A
April is special this year because it is a five Wednesday month, which only happens a couple times a year, especially being hard. Yeah. And that means that we will be releasing four full length episodes in the month of April. So we're going to start things off with a Grab bag episode. And, you know, at the time of the Grab bag, we don't really know what we're going to be talking about. We're going to keep that ruse up. But now that it's already been recorded, I can tell you what we did discuss. So there were three articles that we reviewed in our SP 2026 grab bag. And they were turning the page. Increasing Young Children's Preference for Looking at and Engaging with books by Loomis, Morales, yo and Fine up. And that was in Java 2025. Also a behavioral economic Approach to Green Consumerism. Demand for Reusable Shopping Bags by Kaplan, Galino and Reed. And that was in Behavior and Social Issues 2018. And finally, making Preference Assessments More Acceptable and Effective for People With Dementia by Big Wood, Staples and Sharp. That was in Behavior analysis in practice, 2025. Or maybe 2026. Actually, it was 2026, so quite a range. Right? We hit like the trifecta there, I feel, of both journals and topics. So everyone has that to look forward to. Following that, we are going to talk about relapse and hopefully what to do.
C
That's a. That's a listener choice.
A
No, the listener recommendation.
C
Oh, yeah, recommendation.
A
That's what I meant.
C
Sorry.
A
Yeah. So there's much to discuss here. Four articles worth, in fact, and they include Preference of relapse of Automatically maintained behavior resulting from context changes by muting. Call Richie, Pavlov, Bernstein and Polesnik. That was in Java 2022. Differential criteria affect prevalence of relapse of behavior targeted for treatment. I love it when they tell you the results right in the title.
B
Article is great and has great solutions.
A
Spoilers by Poledznik, Richie, Muting and Falligant. And that was in Java 2020.
B
That's new. That's new Java. I can tell from the PDF.
A
Yeah, new Java looks fancy. And finally. Oh, no, no. I told you there were four.
B
Right.
A
So this is number three. A Laboratory Model for Evaluating Relapse of Undesirable Caregiver Behavior by Matier, Greer, Fisher, Briggs and Whacker. That was in jab. Journal of Experimental Analysis of Behavior, which we only dip Our Toes into occasionally.
B
I'm scared. Hold me.
A
I know. That was from 2018. And then I should have done this one first because it was the intro article. But it's Relapse, an introduction that is by Timothy Shahan and That's also in jab, but in the year 2020, we're
B
going to do it really artsy, like, where we end with the introduction, sort of like memento. We're going to go backwards in time. We're just gonna say a bunch of, like, details, and you have to listen to the whole thing to get the basics.
A
Yeah. So thanks, listener, because now we're gonna.
B
Yeah, thanks.
A
Now we're gonna try to talk about relapse.
B
I love JAB readings. After that, we did delay discounting. I think we've done that twice now.
A
Well, it felt like we did it twice. We had Amy Odom on to talk about.
B
That's why we got through that one. Okay.
A
Exactly. And then I attempted in the grab bag to talk not about delay discounting, but about the demand operant curve. And we'll see how everybody thinks. I did on that one. Thank you. Thank you.
B
I don't remember that.
A
You know, so after we have duked it out talking about relapse, we might need a little peer mediation. So that's what our next topic's going to be. Three Articles to discuss here, Effects of Peer Mediation on Preschoolers Compliance and Compliance Precursors by Bolio, Hanley and Roberson. That was in java back in 2013. Also, use of Peer Mediated Intervention in Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder by Grauvogel, McAleese and Wallace. And that was in Java 2010. And finally, peer Mediation and Monitoring Strategies to Improve Initiations and Social Skills for Children with Autism by Morrison, Camps, Garcia and Parker. And that was in the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions back in the year 2001.
B
Wow.
A
Yeah, we're going in the Wayback Machine for this episode.
B
For folks listening, there are two kinds of peer mediation. One would be like your peers sit down and problem solve with two other peers who are having a challenge or a problem. And that might be a good one to look at the research. But that wasn't research we were necessarily looking for. We were looking for was the mediation of skills with the use of peer supports. So they're the same name. They're different in that regard. Although I guess in that regard peer mediation, where they're like, let's sit down and talk about your feelings and your feelings and come up with a plan that would be pretty similar in some ways. But we're not talking about that kind of peer mediation.
A
All right, thank you for the clarification.
B
Yes.
A
And finally, in the month of April, we have a guest episode which we hadn't had thus far. We have Armando Bernal, who will be joining us to talk about Ascent and pecs. Woohoo. Should be pretty exciting. Two articles to review in that context. They include teaching children with autism to initiate and respond to peer mans using Picture Exchange Communication System, which is pex. That was in behavior analysis and practice. Oops. And it is by Doherty, Bracken and Gormley from the year 2018. And also neurodiversity Affirming Applied Behavior Analysis by Lestromo, Allen Mellon, Syed Johnson and Bernal. That was also in behavior analysis and practice. But the year was 2024.
B
Okay.
C
Yeah.
A
So we got a lot. We got a lot of homework to do.
B
There's a lot coming out this month. My goodness, I always forget that April's not always a four week.
A
No, it varies, Rob. Oh, wow. You never quite.
B
They're hard.
A
Yeah.
C
Calendar.
A
I think only. Maybe only a maybe only February can never be.
B
It's too short.
A
Is that right?
B
This is my birthday.
A
I think February could never have five because it only has four weeks in. Unless it's a leap year. Of course, then that could happen. That it could have five Wednesdays, even in February. Wow. That happens. I'll be sure to alert you.
B
Okay, well, that brings us to the end of the April 2026 discussion of what's coming out part of the show. Let's move into errata where we talk about everything else that's going on. So in terms of what's going on with us, well, we, you know, had a very nice. We hope you all enjoyed our March 10th anniversary offerings. So we are now in the new era of ABA InsideTrack website season two. Yeah, this season two now.
A
So next decade.
B
That was a long, long season one.
A
Whoa.
C
Oh, someone's calling. Rob Spam.
B
Dan, please edit that out. Thank you. Yep. So we have our new website, which is all up and running. Diane is still kind of putting some finishing touches on the. On on the site with some slideshows we'll be having in there. But we should have most of the bugs worked out of it. If you remember. It was something that we had to. We planned to be done by the end of March, so. So we were all set for June to work out the bugs, but our old website totally broke, so we had to really quickly get everything up and running. So it was a lot of hard work and it has been nice to not have so much hard work regarding just making website things. But people still find some mistakes. That's okay. We're excited. We like the new website. Getting some compliments. Thank you. If you've sent in some emails about it, we'll have a little more to say about that in a bit. And yeah, I hope everyone enjoyed some. I did find those bonus episodes. I promised I might find them. I did find some of our old pre Ava and setrack episodes and I put those out as bonuses on. On. On the. On the last couple Fridays. So hopefully people enjoyed those.
C
Oh, I want to tell you about one. Okay, so listener Josh wrote in and he said, omg love the flashback episode. Today round here is one of my favorite songs of all time. When I'm not being a behaviorist, I have a part time gig as a DJ and karaoke host, which sounds like a great part time gig.
B
That does sound great.
C
Where I can spread this song every week.
B
All right.
C
She's tired of life. She must be tired of something.
A
Oh my gosh. I love that song so much.
C
Wait, can you. That's a good karaoke song but like a really horrible wedding song. So I hope as a DJ he's not like playing that to like increase the mood because that would make everyone. Yeah, It's a great DJ song.
A
It would be fun to karaoke that are really like caterwault too, right? Yeah. Oh, my God, I love it so much. Thanks, Josh.
B
All right. Yes. Thank you very much, Josh. I was hoping someone would listen to those sciences bonus and go, no, thanks especially. But this was only 16 minutes long because guess what? When we first started doing podcasts, they weren't an hour long. They were as long as we wanted. Usually 16 minutes was just right. Let's see. Yeah, I think that's kind of our big, you know, kind of the big, you know, come down from how exciting March was. We have daylight savings here in Massachusetts. Jackie and I, we're just discussing. I see. I thought it was just because March was so much fun on the show, and then now it's a big comedown because all the fun is over. But, oh, well, here we are in April. But there is one positive thing in April because we got to get ready for May, because what's coming up in May? Why a listener choice episode?
A
I don't know.
C
Me too. I was like, I know. I want to say it's going to be May, but I don't know what else. It's so dated.
B
Now we're going to have a listener choice episode. That's our spring listener choice episode, which for folks on our Patreon, subscribe to the $5 and up level, you're going to get to vote on a topic, and then we'll do a whole episode about that topic. And guess what? You get a CE for free. Hooray. If you're at a higher level, you also get all that stuff, too. If you're at the lower levels, you should be able to vote, but you're not going to get any free ces, so you might as well be on those upper levels. I don't know about you, but everyone will be able to see the poll. And you can always cross your fingers and hope it works out. But you can head on over to patreon.com aba Inside Track if you want to make sure that you push your thumb on the scale and say it's going to be this topic.
A
Everyone can vote, though. Voting is free.
B
I believe voting is.
A
There's no restrictions on voting.
B
I got to be honest, I can't remember because every month I go and check and it seems like it's free, but then maybe it's not, so I'll double check. But if you go to patreon.com that's where the poll will be. And you can. You don't have to pay if you want to join there. That you just get everything, you know, in time. But we've got three topics, three listener choice topics. Let's. Let's tell them what they are so that everyone knows what they want to vote for. Who's going first?
C
Mine.
B
Jackie.
C
I want to do updates to legislative policy around autism and insurance reform.
A
Every time you say that, my eyes go. I know. She's like, died. I would like to do an update on recycling practices.
B
Okay, that sounds good.
C
I might lose.
A
How about you?
B
I forgot what it was.
A
It was communities of practice.
B
I was like, peer mediation.
A
Yeah, we. We.
C
We did talk about this, like, literally right before we started to record. And that's so funny that you were. We were like, what's happening in play.
B
Okay.
A
Even though we talked.
C
But. Yes, but Rob is going to pick community.
B
Wait, wait, we'll edit that.
A
No, no, that's all good.
B
I don't want to keep it in.
C
Keep it in.
A
Keep it in.
B
Keep silence. No, here we go. Dan, Edit. Edit from here. Don't listen to them. Well, my topic is going to be communities of practice. I think one of the highlights of working with lots of other cool people who may be from your field, maybe have different trainings, is getting together, talking about common challenges, and discussing different ways that you can sort of include what you know in a little bit of a structured way. I know I have some communities of practice. I have some friends in an international PFA SBT group. Some of them met in person at the Upstate Hearing Conference last year. We'll do kind of a quarterly ish zoom meeting. That's been very helpful. And I usually like to build community practice wherever I go. I mean, this podcast kind of came from the idea of trying to make Journal Club. That's like a community of practice, right? So, yeah, communities of practice. So all three of those options will be available. If you're listening on the Patreon feed, it's available right now. If you're listening on the free feed, it's also available right now. But guess what? You only got till Friday to vote, so you better get on over there quick. Don't have as much time. I'm sorry, that's just how these things work. But we'll have a winner, and then the winner will do that episode in May. But we need to know ahead of time, because, surprise, surprise. We don't do these the day before they come out. There's a little bit of a Runway there.
A
Did I tell you guys that when I was A kid. I thought that every episode of TV was filmed entirely in the week preceding that episode. And I was like, what if they get sick? What would they do?
B
Oh, it's like that Simpsons joke where Homer is Poochie the dog and he goes, wow, they're gonna. They're gonna. They're gonna draw this right before the show goes. And they go, well, not usually. That'd be terrible. Strain on the animators wrists.
A
Exactly. So it does take us a little time.
B
Yeah. Well, that. All right, let's move into some emails. We got some email. We had one already from.
C
That was the email.
B
That was it. I thought we had another one.
C
No, that was the email. And then we wanted to just remind people we've had a few emails about the new and improved website. So that's the email we wanted to. Diana and I wanted to talk about it.
A
So a couple things write in about. I'll just try to see if I can hit. Hit the hot notes regarding that. It is a brand new. It's a whole new server. Is it a web host? Web host. So the.
B
Well, that's the web host and more the platform that the ces.
A
Right. We had to remake the whole website. So it's not just like, oh, it's reskinned and it looks differently. It's a whole new website. So if you haven't checked it out, please go look at it. We tried really hard to make it friendly and accessible, but I do want to note that you have to make a new account to be on there. So you need to. You can obviously use your same information, but just saying like, oh, I need to. It's not accepting my password. I need to reset my password. That won't work if you haven't made a new account on the new website easy to fix. You just go and say sign up and then it will be there. When you do that, it will have a spot for you to put in all of your information that will be used on each of the certificates that's made to add in your relevant certification type. And then number. And if you don't have either one of those, totally fine. You can put N A. And then if you're like in the process of it in the future, you will be able to add it once you get your bcba. So that's number one, that comes up a good bit. And then number two, and I recognize that this is a little bit of a challenge is that you can't bulk checkout. So each course, which is what the episodes are now called on There. Each one of them is like its own separate checkout transaction. And I know people sometimes would order like a bunch at the same time and then just do one checkout process. So that is a little bit different and I see why that is annoying for people. So in order to attempt to remedy that as best I can, there is a new section called Bundles on the website. So if you go, you'll see like all the choices. You click all products and then you go in there and you'll see like a bunch of different options. Ethics supervision, cultural care. I don't remember all of the things. All the things, yeah. And then one of them is bundles in the bundles. I have two things in there for you. I have pre made bundles that have between three and seven CEUs in them. You click them, it will automatically, you know, you go through, you order that just one transaction and then it will give you access to all of the courses that are in there. They will be in your My dashboards section instantaneously. This is a great option if you're like, oh crap, I need to order a bunch of CES and I'm going to listen to them as I go, right? I haven't already listened to these episodes or maybe you've listened to a gazillion episodes and the ones that are in there look appealing to you. So you can do that instantaneous access to them. Then you go through the material in there, you do the quiz at the end and then it will give you again automatic access to the CEU certificate. Alternately, if you're like, oh no, I had prepared these 10 episodes that I've been listening to over time and now I want to go to your website and order those specifically. But I don't want to do 10 transactions again in the bundle section. There will be maybe down towards the bottom of the choices I think right now, or maybe I moved them back up to the top. Anyway, it will. There'll be choices that say I need 5 CEUs, I need 10 CEUs, I need 15 all the way up to 25. This one does require me to put the episode or courses in for you. They don't have an option like a pick your own option. So if you want this option because you know the exact 10 that you want, you order or however many number, right? You order them. Then you email me at ABA insidetrackmail.com with the 10 that you want and I will drop them in there for you and then they will be in your My dashboard. It does require me to to do it for You. So I ask that you give me 24 hours to do it. But then once that happens, they will all be there for you to, you know, watch or listen to at your own pace. Final note regarding. This is the date that is going to be on your certificate is the date that you do the quiz, not the date that you, like, order the bundle. Okay. So don't be like, oh, I just got it in under the wire and I ordered this bundle. Right. You still have to complete all of the material in it and the quiz by the date that you need your sort of certificate, your certification renewal, in order for it to have the correct date on it. And I really can't do anything about that. So that's on all the pages as well. But I want to make sure that I'm getting that information out there to you all.
C
Yeah. And as a reminder, we didn't want the quiz. This is a BACB requirement that we need to do.
B
I mean, we're not against the idea.
C
It's fine, but it's not something that we were like, we need quizzes. This is a BACB requirement that's coming out in July. So in order to make it so we could continue offering ces, we had to put the quiz in.
A
Yeah. So we're a little ahead of the
C
game, which is amazing for us.
A
Unusual. I know people may not know that that is a coming, coming requirement because I do get a lot of emails saying, why are you now making me do a quiz?
B
It's because we're mad at you.
A
Yeah.
B
You specifically know.
A
And you can, you know, if you get one wrong, it's okay. You only need to get an 80% on the quiz, and you can also retake the quiz as many times as you as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
We're not the quiz police.
A
Yeah. So that's. Those are my updates. And I know some people have written in to say thank you and that the website looks great. Thank you. Thank you for telling me. Yeah, it was a lot. It actually means a lot because we have put many, many hours into this.
B
My favorite part is that we spent all this time on a new platform, and we still have, like, long podcasts where we have to describe crap to make the platform work. So, folks, it seems impossible for technology to actually do what you want, ever. So, sorry.
A
This one.
B
This is better.
A
It does a lot. Yeah, it really does. And. And people can go back in. They can look, they can see what, what courses they have. They can see their certificates on there. It's. It's going to be great. There are a few hiccups.
B
I like having all the stuff in one place, you know, like. Yes. And having the, you know, the transcript, it's like, all there.
A
I love that most people have been very understanding and patient with any little glitches that are in there. And so thank you for all of you who have written in and problem solved with me.
B
Yes. Hooray. Well, it's nice to have a new website. It's nice to have a new month, and it's nice to have some new
C
episodes and new friends.
A
If you've never listened to the podcast before.
B
Yeah. Why'd you pick this episode?
A
You say that every time I want
B
someone to email us and be like, yeah, I listen to one of your bonus episodes. I thought this was an ABA podcast. You're talking about songs the whole time.
A
Is this for ces?
B
Yeah, the ones about songs are not for ces. We made them a long time ago.
A
All right, time to leave.
B
Time to leave. Diane has got some errands she wants to run before dinner time, so we've got to wrap up. Sorry. If Jackie and I could go for hours and hours. Jackie loves podcasting. Forever and ever.
C
I love it.
A
Talking.
C
I love talking. Not talking. Forever.
B
All right, everybody. Well, we hope you enjoyed last month's festivities. We hope you're excited about a new month of the show as we start season two, which hopefully be another decade. Right. We'll be back next week with another of our fun filled episodes, but until then, keep responding. Bye.
A
Bye.
C
Bye,
A
Sam.
