From Corolla 1 Studios in Glendale, California, this is the Adam Carolla Show. Adam's guest today, comedian and podcaster Adam Friedland and the news with Alicia Krauss. And now, Adam Carolla. Yeah, get it on. Got to get on a choice, but on your mandates, you get it on. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for telling friends. Love that about you. Adam Freeland in studio. Adam, you know, probably initially from Cometown and then stand up and that kind of stuff. And now podcasting as well. We were looking at a great clip of you and Gavin Newsom that kind of made the rounds. Made us laugh. We'll find it at some point. So you. Where do you start off in life?
Adam Friedland
Yeah, I guess Santa Monica. I was born here.
Adam Carolla
You're in Santa Monica?
Adam Friedland
Yeah. And then I'm on the Wikipedia of St. John's Hospital. It's my biggest flex.
Adam Carolla
Oh, really?
Adam Friedland
I'm right next to Marisco Hargitay.
Adam Carolla
Notables born at the hospital.
Adam Friedland
Yes. Yeah. It's the closest my dad has come to. Like I was saying, I'm proud of you, which I was. Felt phenomenal.
Adam Carolla
So you grew up, like, where in Santa Monica?
Adam Friedland
I grew up like. Like, I was, like, here until kindergarten. Then we moved to Vegas.
Adam Carolla
Vegas?
Alicia Krause
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Jimmy did that.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, Me and Kimmel.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
Favorite sons.
Adam Carolla
It's a weird place to move.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
I mean, 30 years ago.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, it was even more. It was like, kind of like. No, it was the. I guess it was the kind of housing boom, like white flight America. So it was very much like, it's like Orange county or Phoenix or.
Adam Carolla
I get it. People who live in Santa Monica don't seem like they want to go to Vegas.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, well, my parents. My parents kind of. My dad was, like, developed houses in the San Fernando Valley, and then there was a savings and loan crisis, if you remember Keating.
Adam Carolla
So.
Adam Friedland
Charles Keating. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So he was an architect.
Adam Carolla
Your dad was an architect?
Adam Friedland
Yeah, it was an architect, but he's from South Africa.
Adam Carolla
But. Really?
Adam Friedland
Yeah. So we moved back for a year in between LA and Vegas, and then I went to. The rest of My upbringing was in Vegas. Yeah, Vegas is like a place where, like, everyone goes after. No one's from there.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, you know.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, it's like everyone goes after. Like, it's a. You know, some. Something happens somewhere else.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, no, I know.
Adam Friedland
Desperados, they flee.
Adam Carolla
They're like refugees. It's why they never needed a sports franchise for.
Adam Friedland
Still don't.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, yeah. Because everyone there is either rooting for the Giants or the Pirates or whatever. There's nobody from there.
Adam Friedland
We're Lakers fans.
Adam Carolla
Right. Right Now. Now everyone in there's there. Right. So you guys, the whole family goes to Vegas.
Adam Friedland
Whole family.
Alicia Krause
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
And then where does comedy start to creep in?
Adam Friedland
I went to college in D.C. and then I started stand up. I was going to go to law school, and then I was like, probably too lazy to go to law school, so I had to, like, come out of the closet as a clown to my parents. It was like, in retrospect, it's like, in retrospect is the most, like, millennial, like, entitled bullshit move.
Adam Carolla
I'm gonna be a comedian.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. Like, I. I'm a clown daddy.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
It's just like.
Adam Carolla
Well, your dad's South African.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah, my parents are.
Adam Carolla
And he's an architect.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
And an engineer.
Adam Friedland
No, I think architect.
Adam Carolla
But he builds.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, but he built.
Adam Carolla
And then builders are super pragmatic, normally. And not so into clown kids.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah. Well, I think, like, immigrants just want their kid to have a good job.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. Yes.
Adam Friedland
And so I got into law school and then I was like, in retrospect, it's like, really, I cringe thinking about what it must have been like for my parents, for me.
Adam Carolla
Well, I mean, if you, you know, you want your kid to live up to their potential and not to struggle financially. Well, I mean, but here's what I'm saying. You gotta balance it. Like, for instance, if your kid has a wish, a desire, proclivity, a gift or something, and they're constantly doing it, like, if they love. If your little girl loves animals, then you want her to be a veterinarian. You want her to work around what she does, what she loves. You know, the best stories are this kid was always putting stuff together and now he's a big contractor. You know, she was always caring for animals, and now she's a veterinarian. Like, we love the notion of you doing what you're. When you were 5, when you were 10, it was pure. You weren't thinking about 401ks or any of that stuff. Right. So if you're funny, and that was kind of what you were, and your parents saw that, then they should be happy you're pursuing what it is. You're muse. But a lot of parents don't see that.
Adam Friedland
I think you should, like, you have to be able to afford that as a family. I think, you know, I came out of college with, like, student loans. It was like a pretty. Now seeing how many friends of mine that are, like, so funny that are still struggling.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
You know, it's just like, it's a brutal industry to go into, and I'm quite lucky. But I wouldn't have, you know, at the time I thought, like, you know, like, I started in D.C. and then I moved to New York. Like, I'd been doing stand up. Then I moved to New York. And then just. I remember, like the night before I moved, my dad was like, well, you know, like, you're going to fail. I was like, why? He's like, well, we don't, like, know anyone in show business. And I was like, it's about being the best dad. It's not about. It's not about nepotism. It's about, like, you know, being the. Being the funniest guy in the. You know, and then you kind of move there and there's like, there's like 2,000 guys literally named Adam Friedland.
Adam Carolla
They're all trying to be.
Adam Friedland
They had the same argument with their parents. And like, you know, you kind of like get smacked in the face by life and kind of realize, like, there's not so much special about you or as much as you're entitled, like, self to.
Adam Carolla
Well, I mean, the thing about comedy, as I think about it, is there are a lot of people that are funny. And I'll liken it to this. There's a lot of dudes who are like, good baseball players in high school. Like, I was one of them. I was good. And there are a lot of dudes that are good, like in high school and they go to college and they play college ball and they're like, good in college, but they only 1% get to the pros, like, make a living out of it. And you go, this guy who could be the best player in your town who went to Florida State and started still ain't playing pros. So there's tons of dudes I know in the comedy department. I would give them sevens and eights all day long, but they're not that many nines and tens. And it works that way. Like when you're writing roast jokes, you get 20 pages of sevens and eights and you get like three nines and 1 10. Like in the joke. It's so easy for so many people to do it at a certain level. But it's just like baseball. Like, lots of people were good at baseball. Lots of people look competent at it, had abilities. But what percentage is getting to the mlb?
Adam Friedland
It's not even a. I mean, like, Norm had that quote right where he was like, when I started, it was like 500 people doing it and five that should be doing it right. And now it's like, now it's like 500,000 people doing it and still five that should be doing it.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
You know what I mean? No, like, there was like a. Kind of. Because of podcasting, the Internet and stuff, there was just this just. Just flood. And probably because of the economy and stuff like that. Like people like thinking that that's like, I don't know, not having real jobs.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
But like, I kind of like think back to open mic, like the early days, and I'm like, wow, these guys, like, thank God for open mic comedy. Because like, this would. It's just a room of school shooters, right?
Adam Carolla
It's a room. We got them off the streets.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, Yeah. I mean, they saved lives. Have they not found, like, this will
Adam Carolla
be 90 minutes where they're not raping or shooting up school.
Adam Friedland
These guys, like, are just a net negative on society. They provide nothing.
Adam Carolla
Well, but here's then the question. Who do you know? I'm trying to think myself, like, who do I know that I think is really funny and focused? Like, not funny and a junkie, but funny and sort of shows up on time, follows through, does the work, would work for free. Has a lot of due diligence. Who isn't working in some capacity? Now, I'm not saying stand up all star. I'm saying in a writer's room somewhere, getting paid to think about funny stuff. Who is funny and sober and focused?
Adam Friedland
There are guys, I mean, I don't wanna use their names, but there are guys that I remember I moved to New York and I'd see them at, oh, mics and stuff, and I'd be like, that's. That must be what it's like to see Louie before he's famous.
Adam Carolla
Right? You go, that guy's really funny.
Adam Friedland
And then you follow up on him and something kind of like breaks. Yeah, like. And it's not about, like, them like being inept human beings. It's just about like, it just doesn't fall for them.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, but there's some of those guys. There's something there. Like, see, I'm telling you, just. Cause I got a front row seat to it with Jimmy Kimmel. Jimmy Kimmel is not the funniest guy in the room. And if you saw him doing open mics back in the day, you wouldn't go, that's the next Louie.
Adam Friedland
But he worked his ass off.
Adam Carolla
Well, he's funny, yes, he works his ass off, but he's also. He doesn't scattershot work his ass off. Like he focuses. Works his ass off. And he like builds things, you know? He puts people together. He creates networks. He networks with people and creates things. And he is funny, but. But he's more of a conductor of funny than a virtuoso of funny. And he finds, you know, he found me. He was like, you're. You are funny. We need to collaborate and work together.
Adam Friedland
And.
Adam Carolla
And he does that. He doesn't burn bridges. He doesn't flake out. You know what I mean? He approaches comedy like someone might approach a business and really focused on it. Like, first guy in the office, last guy out of the office, knows everyone's name. That mixed with funny gets you amazing success.
Adam Friedland
I would say that my kind of career arc has been like, I got really lucky. I was on Cumtown, which is, like, a huge podcast. I was by far the third funniest guy. And Nick and Stav are like, you know, stav is a huge act. Nick is a comedic genius. I mean, he was, I think, my. One of my generation's best comedians. And I kind of, like, at a certain point, I was, like, doing two podcasts a week and got really lazy. And then Stavros left, and then we started this new show. Nick really was, like, kind of credit to Nick. He was, like, the kind of one that motivated it to make it into, like, a talk show named after, like, the least beloved member of the. Of the. You know, just the most moronic podcast was just, like, in retrospect, I hadn't listened to it for a while, or ever, really, until at least recently. But it's. It's so funny. At the time, we were miserable, and then. So, Nick, now, why were you miserable? Because we didn't, like. We didn't know. Like, it was funny for me. I just got. I. I got, like, just very unmotivated. I'd stopped kind of. I stopped working. You know, Like, I was, like. I was getting a handsome salary for working two hours a week, and then I just got lazy as fuck.
Adam Carolla
Well, that's the other thing, too. It's. It's easy to kind of work your way out when you're in because of the schedule. And that's the other thing. I kind of mean, like, kim will never do that, you know, and that's kind of.
Adam Friedland
I shifted it, like, when I started the talk shows, like, I kind of committed myself. It was like, the first time I try at anything in my life, and I've kind of, like, motivated myself in a very similar way where it's like, you just. You finish one thing, you start the next thing. You don't dwell on anything. You have to treat your job like comedians love to fancy themselves artists or whatever. Like, you treat it like you're a fucking accountant and you're going to the office and, like. Like, your. Your dad going to his work. Right? No, it's just like, I know that's honestly, like, the only way that you don't get up your own ass about things is, like, is if. If that's your kind of. And I didn't realize that until I was like, I don't know, 34.
Adam Carolla
I think. I think we're doing people a disservice when we try to sell. Sell it as artistic, you know, it's like a business that people, you know, I would say to people all the time, they go, why are you doing this? Or, why are you doing that? I go, I'm getting paid. I'm getting paid, but the money's good. But it's the same thing I did when I was in construction. I went and do it for free. I did it because I got paid, but I was good at it and I liked it, so who cares? But I don't know why we have to have this pretense of, like, we're all artists. People do stuff, want to get paid.
Adam Friedland
Well, I think because it's like, when you do that, if you prohibit yourself from doing that, you prohibit yourself from, like, considering, like, if I'm making something and I put it out, like, it is effectively scary, right? Like, if you try as hard as you can, you put something out and someone's like, that's fucking bad, right? Like, you're like, hey, man, like, I tried as hard as I can at this. But, like, you know, if you just forget about it the second you're done and you're just immediately starting the next thing. The truth is, is that, like, that is how you develop creatively, right? But you can't consider where things exist in the zeitgeist and where things exist in popular discourse, because then you're gonna, like, literally just prohibit yourself from working and, like, prohibit your. And it, quite frankly, doesn't matter what anyone thinks, right? If you're finding an audience for it, you're doing well, the business is going good, right? That's all that. That's the only consideration you really have to have for anything.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, No, I agree. I mean, yeah. I don't know. People. When people go, you can't listen to the critics, or you can't listen to what they say on X, or, you can't listen. I'm sort of like, if somebody says well, Adam was doing an interview and he was talking to Adam F. And all he did was tell Kimmel stories and never gave Adam a chance to talk. I would like read it and go, huh, maybe I did that. Maybe I shouldn't do that. Sometimes, I mean, there can be constructive. Now the stuff to just go, fuck off and die. I mean, you don't. That's not constructive criticism. But there can be stuff on there where you kind of go, all right.
Adam Friedland
I think that if my friends like something, if I get a text for a friend that are like, oh, that was really good, that makes me feel good. If other comics say that they like something, that makes me feel good. But for the most part I'm like, why the fuck don't you make something? If I read someone like, just blah, blah, I have an opinion, it's just like, just.
Adam Carolla
Nah, I agree. You do it. Yeah, well. And also people are.
Adam Friedland
That's how we comedy when we watch sports, right? Like, we're watching people that are like top level athletes. We're perfectly comfortable being like, that guy's a fucking bum.
Adam Carolla
Right, Right.
Adam Friedland
But we're like on a couch. That guy's like a top level athlete. And that's what's fun about watching sports is being like, yeah, fuck that guy, he's a bum. But like, effectively, it requires some cognitive dissonance that we don't.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
You know, like, so if people are doing that to us, we're like, effectively, it's like, yeah, we're like, we're kind of working in a field. Like, what the hell does this guy know? But like, that's what being a fan is of anything, right?
Adam Carolla
Yeah. I mean, the problem, I mean, I would push back and say a little bit, like when I watch the NBA and I see a guy get his elbow above the rim and just jam the ball, I go, can't do it. Yeah, yeah, can't do it. You watch a SNL episode and you go, I could have have written a better sketch than that. Like, and. But the problem is, is people work at pizza places. So I could have. I know guys I work with that are funny, you know, so the problem with comedy is when you watch, when you watch MMA and, and you see couple heavyweights like, kicking the out of each other, you sit there and you go, I would never go in there. I would never try that with those guys.
Adam Friedland
I think women are fighting scared shitless.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. You see the straw weight chicks and they're pounding. I would never fight one of those 110 pound women. I would never do that. But again, when you watch snl, you go, ah, I could have. And so it leaves the door open for critics. Now, most of these people could never write a better sketch than what was on snl. But there's somewhere in their mind it leaves it open even. It's kind of weird. I just saw a guy set the mile record. It was all over the Internet. Some Scottish guy. 3 hours. Sorry, 3 minutes and 46 seconds or something like that was a new. Now you're watching this guy running and he set the world record. I think he crushed the world record for the. For the mile. It used to be they didn't think someone could break the four minute mile now. Or you've knocked 15, 16 seconds off the four minute mile. But there is a part of all dudes of when you watch this guy running, you kind of look at him and go, shit. I think if I was really fucking, like, if you gave me a million dollars or you chased me with a machete, Is this guy or something? Yeah, it just.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, because he looks like, you know, you go, fuck.
Adam Carolla
I think I could run next to him. Yeah, I could run next to. To this dude.
Adam Friedland
Right? Holy. And he's clean. They tested the piss.
Adam Carolla
I. I tasted it.
Alicia Krause
It.
Adam Carolla
It just. How did.
Adam Friedland
What was it?
Adam Carolla
It tastes like Aarius.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, it was neon.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. Wow.
Adam Friedland
People should make a bigger deal out of this guy. I should have known about this guy.
Adam Carolla
It's kind of weird, you know, our distance increments are weird. Like if you are the fastest man on the planet.
Adam Friedland
We're into meters. We're into it.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, we're into 100.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
We're not that into like a 440, which is one lap. Yeah, we're more into a mile, but we're. But then we're more into a marathon probably than we are in the mile.
Adam Friedland
But a mile is like from gym class. I feel like that's the last time I hear about the mile.
Adam Carolla
It's pretty miraculous that this guy, he
Adam Friedland
should be more famous. That's all I'm saying.
Adam Carolla
Yes, he should be more famous. Yeah, he's famous to me because he's popped up all over my feed. But I don't know. I don't know. His name is Josh Kerr and he ran it in 3 minutes 42. Yeah. So he chopped like 3 or 4 seconds off of the world record. But you know the interesting thing about the human condition.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile record in, you know, 1949 or 50, 47 or whatever. It was. He broke the record. Nobody thought man could break a four minute mile since the dawn of history until he broke it after World War II. Soon as he broke it, eight other people broke it like four days later.
Adam Friedland
There's like a psychology behind that.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, there's something to it. The next, you know, some 15 year old kid broke it like two weeks later. Like you just had to watch the one guy break it.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
A girl broke it. A girl with down syndrome broke it.
Adam Friedland
Chinese girl with down syndrome.
Adam Carolla
Yes. Yeah, it is weird I say that way with Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk did. Tried to do his 900, whatever it was for 20. He finally did it. A bunch of 13 year old dudes did it like two weeks later. Like why, how does that work? I don't know, but I get it. Right?
Adam Friedland
I kind of get it. It makes sense. Yeah, that tracks.
Adam Carolla
What year did Bannister Roger? 52. 52, 49 something. To be fair too. He was running on like a. A gravel track, like a dirt. Old school have it. High school track.
Adam Friedland
Chuck Taylor's.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, we're in Chuck Taylor's.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
1954.
Adam Friedland
Wow.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, so he had. He was on a dirt. Whatever. These guys are on these rubber things. So you go now how do you get like. You've interviewed everybody, you've had like Newsom and Hunter Biden and like all those.
Adam Friedland
I just had Hunter last week. Yeah, yeah.
Adam Carolla
Hunter's mixed for me. Like there's part of me where I kind of go, I get that guy. He's like a charismatic guy. There's something about really angry as well.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
But he seems, he seems very confident.
Adam Friedland
There's something about. I think that what I realized after talking to him is that culturally I don't think we view substance abuse or addiction as a moral failing anymore. Like Ulysses S. Grant was like just trying not to drink.
Adam Carolla
Right, Right.
Adam Friedland
And he was a good guy. And everyone's like, yeah, this guy has like a. Like is morally flawed, you know, like. Yeah, well, I think nowadays, like it crosses. It crosses over where like people across the political divide all kind of view it or know someone who has had an experience or have personally had an experience with. With addiction. And I think there's something about it where that I think communicates to a lot of people and does it. The other thing is this is like Democrats are like. I mean if you're gonna show the G clip, like this kind of plays into that. Democrats are like clumsily adopting this concept of like authenticity.
Adam Carolla
Right.
Adam Friedland
They saw Trump like do Rogan and Theo during the election and legitimize the platform. And now they're like, trying to, like, go. Like, trying to play the same game, but, like, naturally speaking. Like, think about it this way.
Adam Carolla
If you're.
Adam Friedland
The Internet is better suited for. For conservatives, right? Because you could. You could say anything you want, right? Like, right. There's a tremendous amount of stuff that, like, progressives can't say, right?
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
So they like. So the Internet, like, if Trump goes online, like, or does a podcast or something, he can.
Adam Carolla
He.
Adam Friedland
He's fine, right? Because he's not being tethered by all these, like, this calculation of things I can and can't say. And so now that they're trying to do the Internet, it's this, like, clumsy adoption that you're seeing amongst progressives because they're just not naturally tailored for it.
Adam Carolla
Well, let's break it down. Let's see.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
So what we hate the most, we don't mind two left feet and idiosyncratic and weirdo stuff. What we mind is synthetic something. Oh, yeah. And what the Democrats do is they'll get in front of the black church and start talking with a black accent, and then everyone goes, oh, get the fuck out of here. Now. What we'll take, like, the black people don't need you to talk like black. Yeah, but Trump's just gonna sound like Trump. Come on, y'. All. Hey, who's had a hot sauce? Listen, slick, I got hot sauce in my purse, right? So the Democrats get caught trying to sort of butch it up. It kind of reminds me of like, if you ever, like once in a while when they try to, they say like, damn. And I'll go, oh, he's serious. Like, they'll try. They'll do like a little half cuss or something. A little cuss?
Adam Friedland
Gavin saying the F word now, right? I'm fucking.
Adam Carolla
Right. But here's the problem. The problem with all of this stuff is the Internet is like some kind of truffle sniffing pig or something. It can tell. And the Internet only wants authenticity. They don't mind if it's clumsy as long as it's authentic.
Adam Friedland
Do you think that I often think of Tiger, Right?
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
Do you think that, like, we just found out a rich guy was having sex with a lot of ladies, right? That's like, it's not that crazy of a news story. But, like, do you remember, like, people's response was as if he'd lied to us.
Adam Carolla
Oh, you talking about Tiger Woods? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, right.
Adam Friedland
It was. And it was that we felt like he was being inauthentic. Like, we thought you were a good, good man. Yeah. It's like, who the fuck cares if he's getting, like, pussy?
Adam Carolla
You know, Part of it is we have to act outraged, like, all the time. And so I always. I always think this way, where they'll go. Like, you know, someone will go like, this guy was cheating on his wife. His wife was eight months pregnant.
Adam Friedland
What does that have to do.
Adam Carolla
And I'll be like, well, he can't really fuck her then. Like, you're making my argument. That's my argument. Let me change the tone.
Adam Friedland
Feel like, yeah, people feel like we're owed an apology about Tiger Woods. And then on the other hand, like, fucking Mike Tyson, like, violently raped, savagely beat a woman, went to prison for it. And now he's like, in the Hangover movie.
Adam Carolla
Yes, Right.
Adam Friedland
But we never felt like he was being inauthentic. Right. You know what I mean?
Adam Carolla
I'll tell you what it is. I'll give you a perfect example of this. This is the obsession with the gay stuff where you go, lance Bass, man, that guy's gay. You go back 20 years and you go, I know that guy's gay. Everyone's speculating, speculating, speculating. At some point, the person goes, all right, everybody, I'm gay. And everyone goes, yeah, all right, we're done. Cause we're done. Because we don't care if you're gay. We care that we think you're gay. I mean, you're not telling us. I think that's a good point. And it's fucking up our gaydar. Like, we. No, but you think about it.
Adam Friedland
But it's like, you're lying to us,
Adam Carolla
and we have a right as a human being. You gotta think about this as a dude and how many times you do this, where, as a dude, this is all I do, where I go to someone. I go, hey, man, you didn't tell me what day the party was at. I sent you an email that had the date on it. I sent an email that said the party, but you didn't say the date. I said, oh, let me fucking look that shit up. I'll show you. Like, I never go. Okay, well, my bad. Or let's say I go, I'll find that fucking email. When I do find that email, I'll fucking ram it up your ass because you're calling me crazy.
Adam Friedland
I feel gaslit.
Adam Carolla
Feel gaslit. And I feel gay. Lit by lance bass. Because 10 years ago, you're going, wait a minute. So what you're saying is, is my brain off? Is my antenna bent? Am I not thinking, wait a minute. He's telling me he wrote a date on that thing. I didn't see the date. Am I going nuts?
Adam Friedland
Well, that's the thing about Gavin Newsom is, like, he wrote this book and he came on the show and he was doing kind of like the. I just wrote a book. I'm not announcing. I just. I'm here for my book. Right, right. You know, that's what they do before they announce a run.
Adam Carolla
Right.
Adam Friedland
And the book is about how, like, actually, I didn't really get any pussy growing up, and I'm not that. You know, even though you see me, I'm six three and I'm handsome. Like, actually, I was a nerd. And like, yeah, actually, my faith. I look like I was rich, but my family wasn't. Wasn't that rich. And I think that's like his. It's a weird thing is, like, is this like a requirement of public life now is that you have to, like. You have to be like, actually, like, he could just, like, if you're casting a movie, he looks like the president, right?
Adam Carolla
Yeah, right.
Adam Friedland
He could just be a guy that's like, yeah, vote for me because I look like the president.
Adam Carolla
He looks like the president. Except for a casting movie run of like, 12 years from 97 to 2010, where they were black.
Adam Friedland
Right?
Adam Carolla
They had a little black run there.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, he's the guy from the Allstate commercials.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, we had black presidents. We had a run, and then as soon as Obama became president, Hollywood's like, all right, we had a black. We're moving on. No more black presidents. Which is weird because you had black presidents before there was a black president.
Adam Friedland
Right.
Adam Carolla
But that was Hollywood going, we don't have to virtue signal anymore. We got a black president.
Adam Friedland
I saw this thing. I don't know if it's true, but.
Adam Carolla
Wait, I want to circle back for a second.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah, sure.
Adam Carolla
What you want Gavin Newsom to do is what I want Gavin Newsom to do, which is what I'm tired of every celebrity saying they slept in their car and they were lower middle class. You just go, my dad was successful. I had a good life.
Adam Friedland
I got a ton of pussy. Do you think Trump, like, he doesn't. He says he's dyslexic, he doesn't know how to read. Gavin Newsom, do you think Trump would say, I don't know how to read?
Adam Carolla
No.
Adam Friedland
No way. Fucking hell. He'd be Like, I'm the best reader of all time.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
Yet that reads as authentic.
Adam Carolla
Right? Go. I make Evelyn Wood look like she has. Like, she's on the spectrum. Evelyn Wood's a speed reading coach from the 70s.
Adam Friedland
I've read the entire dictionary. Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Oh, yeah. I wrote it and then I read it.
Adam Friedland
So that's like. So they're like. But that's. For some reason. Like, that is authentic, right? It's like, even if he's lying, it's authentic. But that's what they don't get is like, yeah. Like, I don't know what clip you
Adam Carolla
want to show, but I want to show the one where he was talking about his why versus his reason versus whatever. Yeah, you made a great. You made a great look. You should. Should be a meme. So, you know, like.
Adam Friedland
Like what?
Adam Carolla
Like, yeah, what's that?
Adam Friedland
What is your defined political project? Like what, throughout your career?
Adam Carolla
Like, right now?
Adam Friedland
Like, what is. What is the thing you want to, like, you want to accomplish, like, politically,
Adam Carolla
you know, in your life? I don't have, like, a brand. I don't have a tag. Make America great or, you know, the Great Society or, you know, something like Medicare for all the billionaires. But I, you know, but for me, no bullshit. It's just standing up for ideals, striking out against injustice. It defines my why in every way, shape or form. Stand up for ideals, strike out against injustice. I'm a Sarge Shriver Democrat. I'm into that whole 60s, the vernacular of the 60s, solving for ignorance and poverty and disease and the spirit of the 60s, and the spirit of King and, you know, and how the nonviolent movement and Gandhi and, you know, Havel, you know, Mandela, that whole. That moral authority. Not for that whole space. That's the zeitgeist.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
And that's that. So that's me. That's my dad. That's my mom. That's the book, and that's my why. And so standing up for ideals is what Gave Merged. It was about work I'm doing right now, sort of push back, you know, we can lose this country. And just feeling like I have to be held to account and strike out against the injustices of the day.
Adam Friedland
So if you had to define it,
Adam Carolla
like, I need your help, and you get. You tell me you're better at this. I don't know.
Adam Friedland
I don't know who you.
Adam Carolla
I just gave you my why. But how do you translate that into human?
Adam Friedland
What?
Adam Carolla
I don't know how. My why. My human. So here's what I'm saying, but look at it. It looks great.
Adam Friedland
It looks great, guy. This guy looks incredible.
Adam Carolla

Adam Carolla
I worry.
Adam Friedland
Just be like I lost my virginity at 4. Just be like, just say I know how to read every. I've read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, it's also weird we spent. You know, it's interesting the first 15, 16 of our society, we spent trying to pretend and impress upon other people that we're more affluent than we were. Like every movie from the 50s and the 60s, like, you tell them that you're one of the Rothschilds, that you're a descendant from the whatever, and they would literally put on pretense, you know what I mean? To try to pretend as if they had more money. And now, because it was an escape,
Adam Friedland
people weren't very wealthy.
Adam Carolla
Right. In the last 10 minutes, everyone is pretending like they're poor when they were rich because they don't want to get attacked by Bernie. But I want what I. You know what's kind of interesting? I'll circle way back. You were talking about Hunter, and you were talking about addiction, and, you know, the lack. You know, we don't judge so much. At some point, we labeled it a disease, and we don't judge people's spina bifida. So we also call alcoholism or drug addiction a disease. And I think you need it.
Adam Friedland
It's impressive to most people, I agree.
Adam Carolla
But I think in a weird way, it's sort of like what we did with women having a lot of partners or abortions or something like that. We went from judging to not judging, and we went from. So it used to be if you were a dude and you're an alcoholic, you got judged. And if you're a woman and you slept with half the guys in town, you got judged. And we've sort of decided we're not gonna judge those two activities anymore.
Adam Friedland
Everyone's a slut, right?
Adam Carolla
Right.
Adam Friedland
We've all been.
Adam Carolla
Well, if you don't know. If you don't know the slut, she'll tell you. There's whole podcast about how many dudes chicks have slept with.
Adam Friedland
It's weird. The one thing I do, and maybe this is a conservative viewpoint, I don't know what. Where this qualifies. But, like, you're talking about the lion spass thing is, like, why is, like, the fucking the way, like, the style that people fuck is, like, the. One of the primary markers of identity. Right.
Adam Carolla
Explain that.
Adam Friedland
Like, I don't need to know if someone's bisexual.
Adam Carolla
Like, oh, oh, you're talking about their meeting someone.
Adam Friedland
Well, I'm just saying, like, that's. That is how we categorize it in our minds culturally. If I'm just meeting someone, I don't need to know if they're like, I completely dom Daddy top.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, no, I agree.
Adam Friedland
But it's just, like, it's the way you Fuck, Right.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
There's other aspects of people's identities or personalities that are less important somehow.
Adam Carolla
Well, I'll tell you what I like. I like it when somebody is something. Gay, black, whatever. And it's no part. No, I know. But it doesn't factor into any part of their personality. Scott Bessett is the treasury guy. He's gay. Never hear about it.
Adam Friedland
No, no, no. That's gay of him.
Adam Carolla
I'm not saying that having money is gay.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, money's gay.
Adam Carolla
You know how they're all rich, all the gay guys?
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Well, it's the twin. It's the gay. Him to be Treasury.
Adam Friedland
That's gay.
Adam Carolla
But he doesn't talk about it.
Adam Friedland
That's how I knew.
Adam Carolla
I don't.
Adam Friedland
I think you should talk about it more. I want to.
Adam Carolla
I was talking to Jay Moore about how good it'd be to be gay today.
Adam Friedland
It'd be incredible.
Adam Carolla
It'd be awesome.
Adam Friedland
You just have a. Like, you just.
Adam Carolla
You're jacked.
Adam Friedland
You have a convertible.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. Oh, my God. Kids.
Adam Friedland
You and your husband.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, listen, I.
Adam Friedland
You don't have to pay for shit for kids.
Adam Carolla
Before I walked in here. Before I walked in here, I was on the phone with my daughter, and she's like, can you get your truck and come to. Come to Santa Barbara? By the way, I got shows Saturday now. Not plugging me. I'm just saying I'm gonna be in Huntington beach doing a show on Saturday, and then on Sunday, I'm gonna be in Torrance doing a show. The first one sold out. That's this weekend for me. But I get off the phone and my daughter's like, on Friday, can you come out to Santa Barbara and bring your truck, which is the exact opposite direction of Huntington beach, and bring your truck and bring your tools, because I need you to pick up the sofa from the storage place. And then build my bed with your tools. And then build my cabinet with your tools. And then we'll go the mattress store. And it's like, if I was gay, I'd be drinking a smart cocktail at the Abbey all fucking Friday.
Adam Friedland
Be happy.
Adam Carolla
I'd be happy. That's what it's called.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. That's what I call that.
Adam Carolla
And it would. Me and Lance Bass beat the Gabby. I would get fucking points in this town. I might be more employable if I was gay.
Adam Friedland
It's just. Yeah. It's crazy.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. And I just. I think about it, like, all the time. It's like. Yeah. Like, also. It's just like. Yeah, that is like, it's become a primary marker of identity. And I'm not saying it's, you know, it's bad if someone's gay or it's good if someone's gay, but it's just like, why is that, like, one of the top things?
Adam Carolla
It's weird because it. But also, I don't need to know that. But I don't really need to know if you're Irish or Italian or whatever either.
Adam Friedland
I need to be like, are you an asshole or are you a nice guy?
Adam Carolla
I completely agree.
Adam Friedland
That's kind of it.
Adam Carolla
That's how everyone is. I think we spend way too much time thinking that we need more information than we do. Cause I really don't.
Adam Friedland
Oh, I like people should have secrets.
Adam Carolla
I don't. By the way, I'm tired of fucking hearing about you being vegan or a pescatarian or fat. Whatever you have to explain to me. I eat fish, but I don't eat mayonnaise, so I can't have tuna fish or something. Whatever the fuck you're talking about. Just shut up. I don't need to hear all about. And I want to see your bumper stickers either. Knowing who you are. And you know what the worst is? Subaru gives out these little merit badge stickers that you put on the back of the wagon.
Adam Friedland
Lesbian.
Adam Carolla
There's. I scissored 14 hours last week. Yeah. Set a new indoor record for scissoring. No, that's like. I hike. I like. I adopt pets. I like to canoe. And I'm just behind you in fucking traffic. Like, really.
Adam Friedland
Shut the fuck up.
Adam Carolla
Shut up. Shut your fucking hatchback. I don't want to know anything.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah.
Adam Carolla
But you know what? You know what I would say? Maybe you and I who accuse them of being narcissists, maybe we're the ultimate narcissist. Cause I don't give two fucks about anything you're doing. I'm such a narcissist. I don't care if you suck cock or not.
Adam Friedland
Should we care if we. No, no, I don't think we should.
Adam Carolla
But this. This is where a lot of the trans stuff in Hollywood is. Every third actress has a trans kid and then talks about her kids trans. And it's like, I don'. No, I don't care what your kid's up to.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. Like that. They're better people.
Adam Carolla
Because, listen, I'm old school. I'll go way back.
Adam Friedland
You can find.
Adam Carolla
Find Cynthia Nix. Was it Cynthia Nixon talking about? Or was it. Okay, I'll tell you. Let Me school you up, Adam.
Adam Friedland
Okay.
Adam Carolla
I come from these people now. They didn't have trans people in the old days, but they had gay people.
Adam Friedland
Oh, okay.
Adam Carolla
And my grandmother was very progressive.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
And she had two gay friends. Oh yeah.
Adam Friedland
My grandmother also was friends with a
Adam Carolla
lot of gay people and they were both dicks. Like they were assholes. Like, I hated both of them. One was named Lie for Lionel and the other was a guy named Harry Hay, who's like the grandfather of the modern gay movement. Like my grandmother was a fruit fly, you know, in the 30s or 40s and she. Both guys were dicks. They both were shitty. Like you show up to the party and they Then fucking Lionel was standing there, he'd be like. And he was like, spoke in this super effective way. He came to my house for Thanksgiving once and started yelling at me for having my car parked out and they couldn't get in or something. He yelled like, you know how big a dick he was when somebody doesn't know him at the party goes, what's wrong with that guy? Like when a third party just innocently mouth of babes goes, what's up with that dude? Like that's. I got that.
Alicia Krause
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
So he's a dick and Harry Hay is a dick. And my grandmother would always invite them and always go, this is. He's gay, he's gay. And that's Lionel, he's gay. But really what she's saying is I'm super open minded and I'm super aggressive. I'm a great person. So she did this and got some sort of reflective glory because she was ahead of her time hanging out with gay guys.
Adam Friedland
Like my black friend.
Adam Carolla
Right, right. Except for she didn't have any real black friends, but she had gay friends and she brought them. She wouldn't have had a black friends, but they would beat the shit out of the gay friends. She can't put them together like a mongoose and a snake. You know, you can have each one but not the same part. Now she loved it and I realize now people love announcing that they're kids. Like I think like, I don't know,
Adam Friedland
is that they're trying to get like cloud off of the kid having. Struggling with their gender.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. It makes them. Well, let's listen to Cynthia Nixon for sex and say it makes them better and it makes them open minded. Yeah, we judge.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. Yeah. Most importantly, I am here today as
Adam Carolla
the mother of a proud trans man. Feels good, doesn't it? Yeah. She's crushing my best friend's kid.
Adam Friedland
Is Trans.
Adam Carolla
All right, hold on a second.
Adam Friedland
My best friend's got kid is trans.
Adam Carolla
Maybe she's like a Typhoid Mary of trans. Maybe she spreads trans wherever she goes.
Adam Friedland
Best friend's kid is trans is like a little bit. That's like.
Adam Carolla
My best friend's kid was straight zena until I hugged him.
Adam Friedland
My. My sister's cousin. My sister's brother in law's cousin is trans.
Adam Carolla
Everybody in the front row of this rally is now trans because I spit on him.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, it's. It's strange. It's like you could still be a bad person and have a trans kid. Right? It's.
Adam Carolla
You could be trans and shoot up a school or.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. I don't know. Like, for me, actually, what you reminded me of with your grandma and the gay guys is like, I remember what I thought of gay guys was just like, you didn't know that they were gay. When you're like, like a little kid, you just thought that they were. Not for me, they were nice adults.
Adam Carolla
Yes. Right.
Adam Friedland
Like your, your kindergarten teacher that was like really into his job and he was being so nice to you guys.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
And I was like, to me, that's what later on in life I found out. Oh, they were gay men. But they're very sweet people, the little kids.
Adam Carolla
They seem like, yes, I've worked for gay couples when I was a carpenter. And there's a couple things. And don't get rid of Cynthia yet, but I could remember a couple things. I literally made this gay couple both. I made both of them beds. I built their beds as a carpenter. And I was like, you guys got separate rooms? And they're like, yeah, we sleep in separate rooms. And I'm like, oh, man, that sounds awesome. Because, you know, you have sex in
Adam Friedland
the hall, but you stay up and watch tv.
Adam Carolla
You watch whatever the fuck you want. You don't have to argue about it. But also this guy name is Ron Braun. He was like a little better put together. His house was a little nicer. The taste was a little better. Fabulous. The clothing, the furniture, the appointments were a little better. When he threw a party, the food was a little better. So it was like a little better version of dudes.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Adam Carolla
All right. Sorry, Cynthia. Start from the top again. I want to see how many people she made trans.
Adam Friedland
Most importantly, I am here today as
Adam Carolla
the mother of a proud trans man.
Adam Friedland
I am here today as the aunt
Adam Carolla
of a proud trans man. My best friend's kid is trans, and
Adam Friedland
my kid's best friend is trans.
Adam Carolla
My gardener, my Pool man.
Adam Friedland
My wife and I, our lives are
Adam Carolla
filled trans, with the most amazing, beautiful, brave. We're actually going to move to Transylvania Young.
Adam Friedland
This is like.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, but look, the crowd seems trans kid had his top surgery at nyu.
Alicia Krause
It's just like.
Adam Friedland
But like, but like it's, it's not fair to the kid. Like, it leaves a little bit. Like, just like, just like be there for the kid. The kids struggling. Right. I can't imagine it be. It would be to feel terrible. You were in the wrong body. Right. I can't. And I can't understand what that. What that feels like. I think, think. I mean, it must be a lot harder to have. But like, if your mom is like fucking bragging about it.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
On tv, it's a little bit annoying.
Adam Carolla
It's like, you know, transcur. Yeah.
Adam Friedland
You're transcurring.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
I.
Adam Carolla
No, but I'm saying If this was 1975, Helen Gorog, my grandmother, would be up there going, I have gay friends. And everyone would go, ooh, Harry Hay, the grandfather of the modern gay movement, was over my home for a potluck meal. Just let people be chatting. Then she'd go, and I worked with a guy named Lionel, who's a prick. Who's a. And people would be clapping and she'd be nodding her head. But what is she?
Adam Friedland
I mean, I get it. Your grandma, was she a nice grandma?
Adam Carolla
No, she's mean as shit. If I was gay, yeah, sure. If I was gay, she would have loved me.
Adam Friedland
Likewise. Likewise. Yeah.
Adam Carolla
You know what's weird?
Adam Friedland
She like, tells me what's wrong with me.
Adam Carolla
I have I.
Adam Friedland
Not nice.
Adam Carolla
I've spoken to an inordinate amount of guys who had a mean grandma.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, I'd agree.
Adam Carolla
Like, I had a mean. And then let's break it down. You could say, Adam can be critical, or Adam's checked out me, Adam, maybe you. But no, no one go. Adam is mean. Like, no one would call me mean. They just go, he's always thinking about building something or whatever. He doesn't want to talk about shit unless it's whatever. But they've never go, like, he's mean. I don't know that many. Just mean people. Yeah, I know like aggressive people. I know angry people. I know funny people. I know sweet people. My grandmother was a mean person.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah.
Adam Carolla
And I've worked with people that go, yeah, my grandma was. Was mean. Now, I think you could be mean if you were a certain age because you saw a few too many things. You know what I mean?
Adam Friedland
She's mean.
Adam Carolla
Give me your mean. Give me your meanest grandma story, and let me see if I can outdo you.
Adam Friedland
She said, well, like, she's, like, competitive with other women, right?
Adam Carolla
Your grandma.
Adam Friedland
My grandma.
Adam Carolla
This is your dad's.
Adam Friedland
My dad's mom. Yeah. I'm going to get in trouble. For sale. Whatever, dude. She's not. She's not gonna see this, okay? She's 95, okay? She. She said. She said so. So, like, if I'm with, like, my fiance now, she would act like, oh, I hope you're having a good honeymoon with her, you know? And I'm like, I'm not gonna. You, like, you're 95.
Adam Carolla
You're.
Adam Friedland
You're unfuckable.
Adam Carolla
Like, listen, listen, lady, I wouldn't.
Adam Friedland
You with.
Adam Carolla
With Corolla's Day.
Adam Friedland
Listen. Okay, all right. Yeah. She was like. She's like, tell me something. Is. Is she. Is your fiance physically active? And I'm like, like, does she have sex with people? What do you mean, physically active? And she goes, like, you know, is she physically active? I was like, well, you know, she.
Alicia Krause
She.
Adam Friedland
She works out. She grew up playing sports. She was a really good athlete growing up. And she's like, oh. Because I think she'll be having weight issues later on in life.
Adam Carolla
Really? That's mean. That's good. That's something Helen Gorog would have said.
Adam Friedland
It was really mean.
Adam Carolla
I don't know. I mean, I should have laughed.
Adam Friedland
I should have laughed. I should have been like, bitch, you went there.
Adam Carolla
I mean, Dawson's got tape of my grandmother being mean on camera. But, yeah, my grandmother would say weird things to try to embarrass you. Yeah, she'd also. She was a down rounder. Like, I remember once, like, they were flying me to Washington, D.C. on a private jet to just go out and do, like, a stage announcement at a huge concert. Whfs, which is a station I was on in dc, had one of their huge summer concerts, and they do it at RFK Stadium, and they get 63 people, and they'd have 12 bands, and I'd have to go up there, and they flew me out just because I have such a big name on their station.
Adam Friedland
That's your grandma.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. Don't put it up yet. And I was going to have to bring out the Spin Doctors, or, you know, it could have, but it could have been it. It could have been. No doubt. It could have been any of those, like, 90s bands. And I remember saying to my grandmother, I go, well, she said, like, what's going on this week. And I go, well, they're flying me out on a private jet to go make this stage announcement. She's like, gotta keep the man happy. And I was like, nah, man, I don't have to do it. It's kind of a privilege to do it. And she's like, you don't wanna piss off the guys that are paying you or something. And I was like, no, no. They think of me as a big star, and I'm gonna go out and walk out on stage and 60,000 people are gonna go crazy. And she's like, you gotta do what you gotta do because you gotta keep the man happy, because here today, gone tomorrow. And I'm like, how is this turning into a bad thing? This should be you going, what band are you bringing out? Tell me about this private jet. That's amazing. Did you ever dream of it when you're growing up in North Hollywood that you'd be. No, it's just all some weird kind of negative spin on what is about the coolest thing in the world is someone sending a private jet so you can walk out on stage for three minutes and just say the name of a band.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
All right, now I will play Helen Gorag 20 years ago at the end of her life, see if she can summon any kind words for her grandson from 23 years ago. I never think of Adam as a star, and I think people do, but I don't think he has big charisma or charm. But he is intelligent. Maybe he gets some of that from me. All right, so no charisma.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, but she said that you're smart.
Adam Carolla
But I got that from her.
Adam Friedland
They love us.
Adam Carolla
I got it from her.
Adam Friedland
Of course you got it from her.
Adam Carolla
I got it from her. But had it not been for her,
Adam Friedland
you would have been. You would have been. Had no charisma and been retarded.
Adam Carolla
She doesn't think of me being.
Adam Friedland
You know what's worse than having no charisma?
Adam Carolla
Being a retarded and not being retarded and having zero charisma. What was her other thing? It was charisma. And what was the other one? I always forget the other one. She doesn't think of me as having that. By the way, let me tell you something. Grandmothers are supposed to have sons that are pedophile serial killers and think they have big charisma and charm.
Adam Friedland
Gods give to charm.
Adam Carolla
Charm, yes. There's charisma. She didn't look at me as having charisma and charm, by the way, charisma and charm is just a built in thing that's invisible that you can think anyone has. Yes, you can think your dog has charisma and charm.
Adam Friedland
Oh my God. Especially if it's your dog.
Adam Carolla
Yes, but also, I'm on two TV shows and a radio show. I gotta have something worked out. Think of it that way.
Adam Friedland
You're a loser. You're a fucking loser.
Adam Carolla
I never think of Adam as a star and I think equal do, but I don't think he has. She's odd to tv.
Adam Friedland
She, she could lie. She could be a Behind Closed Doors. I, she could just do it. She's on tv. She could just be like, I always knew Adam was going to be a star.
Adam Carolla
I know, and believe me, the question was, is, did you ever think Adam would be such a big star? And she couldn't just go, it's unbelievable. I pinch myself every morning now. She goes, I know other people think he's a star, but I don't think of him that way. Let me explain my stance. I think of him as lacking charisma and charm. And you know, I grew up in the era of Cary Grant.
Adam Friedland
Was it your mom's mom or your dad's mom?
Adam Carolla
That's my mom's mom. That's why my mom was a broken, miserable pile of crap.
Adam Friedland
Because to her daughter she broke her back. She would have fucking killed you.
Adam Carolla
She hated my. My mom hated her mom because my. That was her mom. And by the way, that's her 91. You should have seen her when she had energy for real criticism. Like, that's her at the end, just going, look, I don't know how many years I'm gonna have on this planet to criticize my grandson. So I gotta get it all captured on film right now. Yeah, charisma and charm now. But it was also important that she draw a distinction. She goes, I know other people think he's a star. Yeah. Because other people have TV sets. So they've seen me on it. So that's how other people work. Hold on, I don't. Let me explain. I don't look at him, by the way.
Adam Friedland
Intelligent. That all comes from me. She seems like she was also probably like a genius to this lady. My lady is a genius. It's very.
Adam Carolla
Your grandmother's a genius.
Adam Friedland
She is a genius. But it's only like, it's like she could have like, I don't know, she could have repelled the German advance during the Russian winter.
Adam Carolla
Really?
Adam Friedland
At Stalingrad or Leningrad.
Adam Carolla
She could have done it with just criticism.
Adam Friedland
Yeah. She would have thrown. She would have criticized 2 million Russians. Just throw.
Adam Carolla
Committed suicide.
Adam Friedland
She would have criticized the Nazis.
Adam Carolla
They'd all have eating disorders and be transit themselves.
Adam Friedland
She would have been.
Adam Carolla
She would have made Hitler bulimic. So, uh. Oh, she would have got him. Well, he did kill himself. Well, wait a minute. Drama queen. But hold on a second. Now, the qu. Now here's an interesting thing.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Can you be a genius? You know, this woman had one daughter, and that's all she had. And her daughter hated her until the day she died.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
If you really go well, how do you measure? You know, is it good at math? Is it school smart? Is it street smart? You've got one daughter. You managed to get her to hate you for the 70 years you guys were together. I don't think you can be a genius. Anna pulled that off.
Adam Friedland
I think that, like, yeah. My grandma would say things like, I was never meant to be a mother, like, around her kids.
Adam Carolla
Yes. Yes. And it's just like, you don't you fucking mean.
Adam Friedland
It's so mean. Yeah. Just lie.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
Lady, you're on TV talking about your grandson. Even if you don't think he's charismatic, just be like, I. He's great. And that's why. That's just. Yeah. You're supposed to like. Yeah. Behind closed doors, you're supposed to be like, adam, you're a fucking loser.
Adam Carolla
Right. I told. I know in the family. She could do it in the. Well, by the way. That's how built it in. That's how part of her nature it was that the camera did not deter her, and she didn't seem. It was weird that there's a crew standing there. Why are you talking shit about your grandson? My grandmother, you know, I told her once, I said, she was telling me, your mom, we never get along. She's always got a problem. And I'm thinking, because you're such a bitch, you know, that's why you always have a problem. But she's like, I don't know what else I can do. They always knew. I don't know what else I can do. It's like, there's so much you could do. You don't do any of it. I said to her, very simply, I said, we're going to mom's house on Friday for dinner, and you're coming. Yeah. I said, she remodeled the bathroom in her house. Now it's not my mom's house. It's my grandmother's second house that my mom got to flop in.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
This lady had Money was broken. No, she had two shitty houses in the Valley, and one of them she gave to her broken daughter because her daughter couldn't work or take care of her.
Adam Friedland
So she wasn't even rich? No, she was a bitch. But she was poor.
Adam Carolla
She worked at the. Poor bitch. She worked at a.
Adam Friedland
What is the point? You're.
Adam Carolla
She hasn't even heard. Where's Cruel?
Adam Friedland
Cruella?
Adam Carolla
Cruella De Vill.
Adam Friedland
If you're rich, you could be mean.
Adam Carolla
She worked at the fucking va. You
Adam Friedland
know like, when someone's really ugly and they're fucking mean?
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
It's like, you're ugly. Just be nice.
Adam Carolla
I totally agree.
Adam Friedland
Right? Like, why. Like, if you're. Like, if someone's hideous, like, if someone's good looking, they could. They're. That's the rules of society.
Adam Carolla
Yes. That's how we're allowed to be mean. Well, we'll put up.
Adam Friedland
You're allowed to, like, to put me
Adam Carolla
in a. I met a couple in my life. I've met, like, three really mean fat chicks. And I was like, really?
Adam Friedland
Just be nice to people.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, I get it.
Adam Carolla
So she was not rich. She lived in a shitty house, but she had a second shitty house that we got to live in, okay? Anyway, my mom remodeled the bathroom. The one bathroom that was in this little shitty house in the Valley. And my grandmother was talking to me, like, on a Wednesday. And she's like, your mom. She's got a problem. There's nothing I can say. I go, listen, it's gonna be real simple. You guys always talking about writing letters to each other with therapy or something. I said, it's real simple. It's real simple. We're gonna go over there for dinner tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, she remodeled the bathroom. It looks really nice when. Some point, when you use the bathroom, you just get up and you walk in and it looks good. And when you come out, you walk back into the living room where we're sitting, and you go, hey, Chris, I saw the bathroom. It really looks great, man. Talk about grout. And then we're done. That's all. That's all she wants to hear. That's all. One piece of validation in her fucking entire life. That's it. Just compliment the bathroom. By the way, it's your bathroom because it's your house, your second house. And you know what? It looks pretty good. So just do it. Just do it. And some point.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, she gets that. Yeah. She increased her property value.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Adam Friedland
Yeah, yeah, she's helping you out.
Adam Carolla
Some point, she gets up, she Goes to the bathroom, she comes back in, she sits down, she doesn't say a fucking word. Like it went from a shitty 40s bathroom to a new 80s bathroom. She doesn't say a word. And then, like I look at her and I go, hey, grandma. Hey. The bathroom, you notice it got all remodeling? She's, yeah. Just gets back, doesn't say a fucking word. And I was like, can't do it. You can't do it. You just can't. You could just make your daughter feel nice, but you can't.
Adam Friedland
You try to orchestrate like a nice moment for your mom.
Adam Carolla
I tried.
Adam Friedland
You're trying to parent trap your grandma.
Adam Carolla
Like, yeah.
Adam Friedland
You thought it was gonna be. That's the thing is like whenever you set up one of those kind of things, you think it's gonna be the end of a movie.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Adam Friedland
And this cut.
Adam Carolla
Can't pull it off for one minute. And then once you realize. And I came up with this phrase, disappointers never disappoint, like, all you do is the same disappointing shit. I knew, even though I told you to do something that no one needs to tell you to do because it'd be totally organic. Because you'd walk into your old bathroom and see how new it was and go, hey, not touched. You'd come back in the room and go, hey, it looks like a great rima in there. But I prompted her. Still, she couldn't do it. Can't. But the crazy part is she doesn't know that about herself.
Adam Friedland
That's the thing.
Adam Carolla
That's the thing about the mean people.
Adam Friedland
Even when you tried to tell them, it doesn't work.
Adam Carolla
It doesn't work.
Adam Friedland
It doesn't work. You tell them, listen, here's all the evidence. You're a mean person. You're being very mean.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. And then they're like, I'm sticking with them. And by the way, I'm gonna go to the grave with my daughter hating my guts and not thinking I liked her bathroom remod. And if my son ever sends a film crew over, I got some choice words for him too. And then we'll make fun of you after your death.
Adam Friedland
It would have made your mom feel good.
Adam Carolla
She's not gonna risk it. She wouldn't risk that. Are you kidding?
Adam Friedland
What is she gonna do, you think?
Adam Carolla
Chris Corolla? It looks that 72 year old should feel good about herself for 10 minutes and not resent the shit out of you.
Adam Friedland
You're the only person that ended up getting hurt. Your mom didn't know. She was supposed to say I look nice. The only present.
Adam Carolla
I'm the real victim.
Adam Friedland
She could have done it for you.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, I had to sit there and kick her in the shin under the table. Come on. How about that bathroom, grandma? She wouldn't. She couldn't. That's the whole thing. So here's the moral of the story.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
The people you need to tell to do something obvious like compliment a remodel bathroom won't do it. And the people who don't need the talk. We'll do it without the talk.
Adam Friedland
Of course.
Adam Carolla
Of course.
Adam Friedland
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
Adam, the time has flown.
Adam Friedland
It's been so fun.
Adam Carolla
Come back. Come back anytime.
Adam Friedland

Alicia Krause
I used to walk on the beach
Adam Carolla
in San Clemente when I lived there. And I remember exactly one time that
Alicia Krause
I was walking on the beach and a surf fisherman caught a fish right
Adam Carolla
in front of me. And it was huge, and it was. It was hissing and spitting and it was a guitar fish. But I will admit that even the fisherman looked kind of shocked that he caught something that day. You can leave us a message at 888-634-1744. Gotta go back to your childhood to find someone who caught something while they were surf fishing, because it does not exist. What the hell's a guitar fish? I'll put a picture up for you. Dawson knows what a guitar fish is. I know now. I've grown up here my whole life and I've never heard of a guitar fish. Is it something?
Alicia Krause
Huh?
Adam Carolla
Oh, it's a sand shark.
Alicia Krause
Yeah. I would have thought that that was like a.
Adam Carolla
It looks like a flying V. Yeah, it's what we would call a sand shark. Right. A guitar fish. Right. You can't eat it, and they're just. All right, so somebody caught something and it wasn't edible. All right, so you might as well just.
Alicia Krause
Oh, is that technically a.
Adam Carolla
Have caught a croc? Or wait, is this a sand shark?
Adam Friedland
Oh.
Adam Carolla
So guitar fish are what we would call. We call them sand sharks, but that's not what an actual sand shark looks like.
Alicia Krause
It would kill you.
Adam Carolla
Like it killed the guitar fish. Looks like a Plecostomus type sucker fish. Yeah. Yeah.
Alicia Krause
Wow, that's a real big fish.
Adam Carolla
That bought a big word for you, dog. It's a sand feeder.
Alicia Krause
I'm sorry, how many syllables?
Adam Carolla
We call them sand sharks. Can you put in sand shark, guitarfish and see if that thing. But yeah, now I recognize it. Anyway, not edible. All right, Leisha Krauss got news. I saw the Odyssey. I have thoughts.
Alicia Krause
Ooh, do you wanna talk about that?
Adam Carolla
I'll talk about for a second.
Alicia Krause
Okay. I've not seen it, but all of my friends that are into film and super creative have pre booked it and we're really excited to see it.
Adam Carolla
It's good. I Found myself, you know, two hours and 45 minutes in, when they're having their 33rd sword fight sort of thing. I was kind of like, I got it. Like, we're having another sword fight.
Alicia Krause
Did you read the book, though?
Adam Carolla
No, I did not read the book. And I also will say I don't get down with mythology unless it's Beastmaster, and that's a different story. And Dawson, I'll tell you about Kodo and Podo, but by thieves. By thieves. Those are little thieves. But, like, you know, everybody has a genre. They go like, people like Westerns. Are people like, eh, I don't like women in general. Eh, guys like Westerns. But then some guys don't like Westerns. My genre. The perfect movie to me is Master and Commander. It's at sea. It's like, historically correct. You get a snapshot into life back then, and it's super tactile. Like, it's linear. There's no wishing upon anything. There's no mysticism. It's just dudes fucking sea and battle and, you know.
Alicia Krause
Are you a fan of Moby Dick then?
Adam Carolla
I didn't. The newer version of it or the old version of it. That's how I do like any. I like all maritime stuff. I like World War II stuff.
Alicia Krause
You like the gritty, raw, kind of more real feel.
Adam Carolla
The hobbity stuff. Or the stuff where I can't. Here's the thing.
Alicia Krause
You come for Tolkien. You got a homeschooler sitting here.
Adam Carolla
Here's what I'm saying. I need the rules to be defined, okay? And Saving Private Ryan, the rules were defined. Your German's over here, we're over there. That's an airplane. You know the gold?
Alicia Krause
Because it's in the title.
Adam Carolla
Yes. The ones, even the superhero movies, where the guy's, like, straining real hard and he picks up. You know, he'll pick up a dump truck over his head, like, ah. And then he'll throw it. It'll go like a mile. And then later on, the bad guy pulls a parking meter off the ground and hits him in the back. And it goes, ah. And he just reacts like you would react if somebody hits you. Except for he just threw a dump truck seven miles. And by the way, why is he straining to pick up the dump truck? It's tough. It's tough for him to pick up the dump truck. But then he throws it. It goes. I like to know what the fucking rules are. And the thing about these kinds of movies is I don't really know what the rules are. There's magic.
Alicia Krause
You want to set the boundary for the storytelling.
Adam Carolla
Well, there's like this witch turned these people into swine, but. But I can beat her because I've outsmarted her or something. But everything is a little. You can do whatever you want because there isn't any real gravity because you're not adhering to anything. Beautifully shot, well acted. Matt Damon is great. Anne Hathaway, who's always acting her ass off constantly, was fine. But she's like, it doesn't need be to do that much acting. Tom Holland, the Sun, I don't know, didn't need him.
Alicia Krause
Zendaya's boyfriend.
Adam Carolla
Yes. Zendaya didn't really need her. Robert Pattinson was great. Zendaya was in it.
Alicia Krause
Really? I didn't know that. Yeah, I mean, it's a really stacked cast. And that was something that the cinematography movie guide person at the Free Press said. And she sounded much more sound and smart than I am because she has a British accent, so that makes everybody sound better. But she was saying that she actually felt like all of the A list cast was very distracting from the actual characters because you see Matt Damon, you see Tom Holland, you see. You don't see their character.
Adam Carolla
There's a lot of that. I would say Robert Pattinson was great. Leguizamo. John Leguizamo was great. Elliot Page, who's Ellen Page? They went tight on her face. Five foot two or something. Elliot Page was Travis Scott. How was Travis Scott close on her face? And you could see it was a woman when they were close on her face? Because the face is taking up 75ft on a screen and you're looking at. You go, okay, that's a woman. Because you can tell. So that was a weird. The Elliot Page thing was kind of a weird bump. Travis Scott was fine. Didn't have to do that much. Also, I'm going to make this rule, and I don't know if Alicia Crouse is going to agree with me or not, but Lupita Nyong'.
Alicia Krause
O. Lupita. Lupita.
Adam Carolla
Helen of Troy. Okay, Dawson, you tell me you understand this too. I don't care who you are, whether you're from olden times or new times. You cannot be the most beautiful woman in the land or the fairest woman in the land. I don't care what color you are, even though I said fair, if you got literally less than an A cup up top. I'm tired of Hollywood trying to push off dudes who look like teenage girls who look like teenage boys. With their shirts off is the most beautiful. I'm sorry, so there's components.
Alicia Krause
So you're a member of the. You don't like the itty bitty titty committee?
Adam Carolla
Ladies, don't you know what you can be? Know what you can be?
Alicia Krause
Be the most beautiful you can be.
Adam Carolla
You can be cute, you're, you're. And you can be attractive and you can be a lot of things, but you can't.
Alicia Krause
Stunning.
Adam Carolla
I know, but she has a concave chest.
Alicia Krause
That's, that's.
Adam Carolla
Sorry, that's not all woman. I mean, I agree. You go, well, you know, it's a woman, but she has no ass. It's like, well, look, I like a little bit of an ass. I mean, what, what is a woman like? What are we talking about? Seriously?
Alicia Krause
What are you on the Supreme Court now?
Adam Carolla
What is a woman? What if you're, if you look, if you're wearing no shirt and you look the same as a 13 year old male, then what are we talking about?
Alicia Krause
So you are delving into things though that I could talk about for three hours, sir. Because it is hard to just be a woman. And for a very long time you will get laid.
Adam Carolla
You will meet guys. I know guys that they don't care at all about a bosom one way or the other. And I'm not saying they don't care
Alicia Krause
about a big booty.
Adam Carolla
You don't need. I didn't say big booty. I said no ass. Now you don't have to be into Dolly Parton. What I'm saying is you got a top and a bottom. And then you can start talking about your women of, you know, whoever Frank Sinatra was dating in the 40s and the 50s. You can talk about. Look, you go, that's Raquel Welch. Okay? Look at him. Okay. Holy shit. And then you get the other ones. I try to pass off. You can be attractive, you can work, you can be fruitful, you can get married, you can be beautiful. But you cannot be the most beautiful woman or the greatest example with an A cup up top part is missing. And by the way, I'll say this, I'll say it about dudes. You want to be the best looking dude and whatever, six feet tall, you gotta have a little height and you gotta have some guns.
Alicia Krause
Yes.
Adam Carolla
And if you don't, you can be dateable, you can be cute, you can be whatever you want. But you're a little bit spindly. You're not really.
Alicia Krause
That's why I don't get the Timothee Chalamet. Obsession.
Adam Carolla
That's what I'm saying.
Alicia Krause
Like Tom Holland is cute. Timothee Chalamet is not even cute.
Adam Carolla
No, but like Chris Helmsworth. Helmsworth. You go, Chris Hemsworth. They go, okay, that's a dude. That's a dude. And then you go, what's her name? From Modern Family? Gloria Vergara.
Alicia Krause
Sofia Vergara.
Adam Carolla
You go, okay, that's a woman.
Alicia Krause
Yes.
Adam Carolla
And then you see Natita Manongo and it's like there's nothing. Lupita. Her chest is like convex, I think, or concave, I should say. There's nothing she can when she puts a gown on. What do gowns do? Gowns are all cut to enhance a woman's bosom. Like they're low plunging or whatever. They're that. But if there's nothing there, then there's nothing there.
Alicia Krause
It doesn't do anything for you.
Adam Carolla
It's. You're out of the running. I want to add to that list too. Yeah. Hair. Yeah. Should not be bald woman. Yeah. Oh, no, I, I, I'm with you. I'm with you on the hair and the chest. But, but we are trying, we're trying to pass women coming for you guys now. Well, to be fair, if the woman had cancer, she's obviously not going to be the most beautiful woman in the world. Well, come on, Dawson. I'm just saying she is as flat as any 12 year old girl. And it's called cleavage. It's called a bikini. It's called a gown with a plunging neck. Whatever. It's not hot now. Doesn't matter. She'll have her pick of the litter of men. She'll be fine. And many of the women with the boobs wish they were built like her so they could go out for a jog in the morning. But don't try to pass it off as the most beautiful woman in the world. Thank you.
Alicia Krause
Okay.
Adam Carolla
All right. Good movie. I'll take master and Commander.
Alicia Krause
The cinematography was really well done.
Adam Carolla
Really well done, which is kind of Nolan's thing.
Alicia Krause
I don't know if I'm gonna see it, you know?
Adam Carolla
You know what I'm saying?
Alicia Krause
I'm not really into the mythology. I didn't read the book. Bad homeschooler, me. But I didn't read the book.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, you don't have to see it. And by the way, Zendaya is gonna get thrown in that flat chested group too.
Alicia Krause
She's stunning with a.
Adam Carolla
A cup.
Alicia Krause
No, she's bigger. I don't know, I'm afraid to say what Size. I am now.
Adam Carolla
Well, well, here's the thing now, Sweeney. That's a different situation.
Alicia Krause
When you get married and you're fruitful and you multiply, then you can have a woman at all shapes and sizes all throughout your life. And you get to have fun with everything.
Adam Carolla
Right.
Alicia Krause
There you go.
Adam Carolla
And then there's your goomon.
Alicia Krause
The song.
Adam Friedland
Hooray.
Alicia Krause
Monogamy.
Adam Carolla
All right. Yeah. All right. What do you got?
Alicia Krause
Ooh, Radical leftists. Just being radical leftists. Remember when that guy in Dallas Fort Worth thought that he was gonna shoot ICE officers and then he ended up shooting immigrants in custody?
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Alicia Krause
And we're like, dear God, how dumb are liberals? Well, Andy Ngo over on X has this video of an anti ICE activist who decided to be even dumber than that dude. He lit himself on fire.
Adam Carolla
Oh, did he? Yeah, we got film of this. He's going in front of the ICE headquarters
Alicia Krause
in front of a federal immigration courthouse in downtown Manhattan.
Adam Carolla
He's got a bucket, and it looks like a Home Depot bucket. Cause it's orange. And he throws the bucket and he lights it.
Adam Friedland
Oh, my God.
Adam Carolla
And lights his feet on fire.
Adam Friedland
Oh, my God.
Adam Carolla
I love when women react. What's happening?
Alicia Krause
How is she just randomly filming what's happening? I mean, he's lucky he didn't get shot.
Adam Carolla
Oh, my God. Get away from there.
Adam Friedland
No, no, no.
Adam Carolla
Get away from there. Boy, I'm envious of these people, though.
Alicia Krause
It's kind of their job to go after the bad guy, though. And she's like, get away from there.
Adam Carolla
There's plenty of room to walk.
Alicia Krause
Look at how quick they got him, too.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, yeah, the guy. Get away, get away.
Adam Friedland
Oh, my God.
Adam Carolla
This is my favorite person. My second favorite person is the one who nods along. No. Oh, I hate that person. I like the person on the airplane after an hour of the marshal's going, if you don't get off this airplane, I will forcibly. And at some point they go, all right. And they do it. And they start getting the guy in the headlock. And then the woman three rows back goes, what's going on? What's going on?
Alicia Krause
What are you doing to him?
Adam Carolla
Everybody knows what's going on.
Alicia Krause
Everybody else has their camera.
Adam Carolla
You're standing there, you're hearing this argument for an hour. What do you mean, what's going on?
Alicia Krause
Crazy.
Adam Carolla
All right, so these guys are fucking nuts.
Alicia Krause
Yeah. Because of how that's gonna stop ICE from going and getting immigrants and rounding them up.
Adam Carolla
He took a bunch of gasoline, he put it in a five gallon bucket, he dumped it Toward the front door. All he did was burn a patch of cement that wasn't really where the front door was. Mission not accomplished. But he's going to be in trouble.
Alicia Krause
I mean, they could. Is Gitmo still open? Because that's going to be a terrorism charge against the federal facilities and that guy to get Mo.
Adam Carolla
Get him to get Mo.
Alicia Krause
Get him to get Mo. I need a T shirt that says that.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, it's a Russell Brand movie. Get him to get Mo.
Alicia Krause
All righty. Another thing involving law enforcement and some interesting video. There's a now viral police body cam video video. Of course it's a Florida man, but Florida man didn't want to be called Florida man. Guess what Florida man wanted to be called.
Adam Carolla
Oh, he.
Alicia Krause
She.
Adam Carolla
It. Them. Oh, this. I'm so. I'm enamored with these kind of tapes or these people. Yeah, well, listen. Why do you let those kids get away with this? They are not supposed to be here. If you don't lower your voice, I am going to put handcuffs on you and I'm going to take you to a Baker act facility. You lower your voice. Try it. Are. Are you threatening me? You're threatening me.
Alicia Krause
His hands behind his back.
Adam Carolla
I'm here right now to deal with a stolen vehicle. I ain't got time to hear you screaming and yelling. I. I don't have time to constantly be abused. We'll get. We'll get OPD down here then, cuz I got to. I got to work this stolen vehicle. What do you mean, OPD? Alpha 73. University. Alpha 73. Can we get another unit to deal with Jay Lee here? He is having a breakdown. Just say the right pronoun. What'd you say? Get down on the ground right now. No, you're about to get sprayed.
Alicia Krause
No.
Adam Carolla
Get down on the ground right now. Leave me alone. I can come in there. Leave me alone, please.
Alicia Krause
Okay.
Adam Carolla
Are you gonna calm down? I'm. I'm getting my phone out. I have to film this.
Adam Friedland
I'm telling you.
Adam Carolla
Are you gonna come? I don't know. It's funny, but it's sad, too, that so many people grow up this way. Leave me alone.
Alicia Krause
Like, okay, I'm gonna say something that's gonna get me canceled. That's a mentally ill person.
Adam Carolla
Yes. Well, listen.
Alicia Krause
That is a mentally ill person.
Adam Carolla
Most of the trans people are mentally ill, if you think about what they're saying. Is this a trans person?
Alicia Krause
Yes.
Adam Carolla
Yes. Okay, so here's the thing.
Alicia Krause
So he's saying. Stop saying he. I'm a she.
Adam Carolla
You to leave me alone. All right, pause it. Listen, I've said it my. I used to say this all the time on Loveline, and I don't think they do this anymore, but I say two things. One is, you think you're Napoleon. And we go, that guy's crazy because he thinks he's Napoleon. You are, dude. Who thinks you're a chick. That, to me, is crazier than thinking you're Napoleon number one. Number two, the other thing they used to do, and I used to say it all the time on Loveline 2, which is it used to be before you transitioned, you'd have to talk to a psychologist for a year, and then at the end, they would deem you sane, and then you would cut your dick off. And I was like, so now you're sane enough to cut your dick off? So it's all nuts if you look. Dawson, do you remember a cartoon called the Groovy Ghoulies? I do not look up the Groovy Ghoulies. I'm just having a flashback to 1975, picturing they were banned. They're back when they do cartoons. They've sung, like, the Archies and stuff like that. And this guy, there was a Groovy Ghoulie that looked. Look like this guy. And I'm only going off a memory that's 50 years old, so I have to see what they look like.
Alicia Krause
Yes, Vic, which is who the New York Post is referring to.
Adam Carolla
Vic.
Alicia Krause
Vic. For misgendering him.
Adam Carolla
She.
Alicia Krause
He. I don't know. But this person was eventually taken into handcuffs, but not before being Tased by another officer and reportedly trying to kick and swing at the cops. Yeah, like, I feel like the pepper spray was a little aggressive. Sorry. I'm a fan of the Blue Line. I love me some good cops, but, like, screaming. He wasn't, to me, a physical threat yet. If another cop shows up and then you start throwing punches, then, yes, we can take you down.
Adam Carolla
But let me just explain something to everybody because I think it'll be helpful to crazy trans people or young teenage black boys. At the end of the day, cops have things on them. They have pepper spray, they have Tasers and they have guns and they have Glocks. Okay? And at the end of the day, they're just a dude from the high school you went to who played on the football team and probably didn't go to college and may not have been at the top of his class. And they got this stuff on them and you agitate them or Fuck with them.
Alicia Krause
And you think you can get away with it.
Adam Carolla
And I'm just saying, if you took a look at any one of my friends, if anybody I went to high school with and anyone I hung out with had pepper spray and it was just holding it, and you were fucking with them constantly, and at some point they were like, trying to nap or something, and you got in front of me, went, hey, Boo, wake up. They just go. They just fucking pepper spray you. Because they'd go, I have pepper spray and you're fucking annoying the shit out of me.
Alicia Krause
And you're not listening to me.
Adam Carolla
And you're not listening to me. And yes, I'm a cop, but I'm also a dude who played a little high school football and didn't go to college. And I got shit on me, I think. And you're going to get me to a point where whether you need to be pepper sprayed or not, I now want to pepper spray.
Alicia Krause
You just need to, like, release the anger from the tension of every other call that they got and had to deal with that day.
Adam Carolla
Or just. How about just right now? Like, you just scared me. And you look at what he does right before he pulls out the pepper spray.
Alicia Krause
Yeah.
Adam Carolla
What he does is he startles the cop. And when you startle people, this happened
Alicia Krause
for more than 10 minutes, by the way.
Adam Carolla
I know. And this guy should have been pepper sprayed, tased. But if you looked at when he does it, it'll startle you because he's quiet and he just goes nuts. What's the problem? Why do you let those kids get away with this? They are not supposed to be here
Alicia Krause
talking like an old lady.
Adam Carolla
I am going to put handcuffs on you and I'm going to take you to a Baker ACT facility. You lower your voice. Try it. Are you threatening me? You're threatening me? Are you threatening me? I'm nervous because I'm here right now to deal with a stolen beer vehicle. I ain't got time to hear you screaming and yelling. I don't have time to constantly be abused. We'll get. We'll get OPD down here then, because I gotta. I gotta work this stolen vehicle. What do you mean? OPD Alpha 73, Universal. I'm down with OPP Alpha 73.
Alicia Krause
Yeah, you know me.
Adam Carolla
I didn't teach you that in homeschooling. Jay Lee here he is having a breakdown. He scared the cop. He startled the cop. Yeah, because he was, like, talking on
Alicia Krause
the well and also, like, within arm's reach. If you get closer to me, Than arm's reach. No, I'm just.
Adam Carolla
What I'm saying to people, what I keep trying to say to everyone is, don't look at him as cops. Look at them as guys with guns. If someone has a gun, are you gonna fucking go Try, bro. Like, just fucking. He's got a gun. He's gonna get shot.
Alicia Krause
I have a little bit of empathy for this poor guy that clearly is mentally ill. Like, this looks like if this had happened on skid row, would it be getting as much attention? I think it gets more attention because it's happening at a university who's been probably allowing this person to go into women's locker rooms and leaning into it. But then when somebody misgenders him, he calls the cops and then freaks out on the cops.
Adam Carolla
He doesn't look like a groovy ghoulie. There is a.
Alicia Krause
You were wrong.
Adam Carolla
7. Well, hold on. 70s cartoon with the monster family that might find. We'll find someone. I'm gonna find someone from a 70s cartoon.
Alicia Krause
This kid looks like one that I've never seen before.
Adam Carolla
Oh, you've never seen before? All right, what else?
Alicia Krause
Okay, well, we have a couple of stories here about more crazy liberals. Democratic influencer Harry Sisson. Are you familiar with him?
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Alicia Krause
He's kind of obnoxious. He was on Don Lemon show, which, by the way, if we could just pivot for a moment, like, the Internet is ablaze with, like, the Andrew Tate and his brother news being arrested, and people are talking about, like, what scumbags they are. And I'm like, are we forgetting how Don Lemon is literally a scumbag, too, and was accused of, like, multiple, like, sexual harassments allegedly. And, like, that's why he lost his job at cnn. And then he went in and harassed people at a church. And now people are just pretending like he's totally fine and going on his podcast.
Adam Carolla
He's a narcissistic douche who's dumber than he thinks. He's smart, but he's not as bright as he thinks he is. But he's got a lot of chutzpah.
Alicia Krause
Well, we can watch the video, but apparently he wants to fight anybody in the administration, including Stephen Miller and Donald Trump's children.
Adam Friedland
I've suggested to people before in interviews. I'm like, I want to fight them. I think, like, fight them.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Adam Friedland
Like, if Stephen Miller would agree with
Adam Carolla
or one of the Trump children or,
Adam Friedland
like, anybody in the administration, I want to fight them.
Adam Carolla
God, you know what? That I would go pay to see on The White House lawn.
Adam Friedland
That's what I'm saying.
Adam Carolla
In the ufc.
Adam Friedland
Why are we doing the UFC event? Why don't we just settle some political beef? I'll take anybody in the white. I box for four years, and if they want to, I'd get back into training camp, get in the best shape
Adam Carolla
of my life, and go fight one of them.
Adam Friedland
I would do it, too. Yeah. That's why I feel like there's so many people that would do it. And I've suggested to people before in interviews, I'm like, I want to fight them. I think.
Adam Carolla
Pause it. I'm gonna put this out there. I used to box.
Adam Friedland
Ooh.
Adam Carolla
I wanna fight Maxine Waters. I hate that bitch. And I fucking know. I know black doesn't crack, and I know you always bet on black, but I got some ring general. General Ship.
Alicia Krause
No, no, you can't. I'm not gonna let you do that. You can't fight a woman.
Adam Carolla
I hate her. And you can't fight an elderberg. I don't know how old she is. Look at her hair. It's like three weeks old. And she's up there talking about seeing people, confronting people at the gas station, pushing back, fighting back. She's talking about fighting. I would fight. I would fight her. That's what I'm gonna say that right now.
Alicia Krause
So what's gonna happen when this is a headline on tmz? It will get you. Like, wanting to fight an old black woman is gonna get more.
Adam Carolla
I don't. I don't care.
Alicia Krause
Citizen saying that. That he wants to fight any member of the Trump administration.
Adam Carolla
I'm opening it up.
Alicia Krause
But it shows the hypocrisy, right?
Adam Carolla
I guess. Okay, here's what it shows. It shows they never talk about anything that's serious. Like, I would like to talk about infrastructure. I would like to have a discussion about things that need to be built and fixed and repaired and new things. Like, they don't want to train or
Alicia Krause
tax policy or licensing.
Adam Carolla
Everything is just. This person's mean. Everyone's mean. Everyone's cruel. I mean, it's a great. You know, it's a perfect thing. Like, if you pull up that retard Mark Ruffalo's.
Alicia Krause
Oh, we're talking about him next.
Adam Carolla
Oh, yeah. Good. Because it's like, I know everyone who disagrees with you hates kids, and they're mean. Like. Like, when you listen. All right, that clip, Dawson, that clip. And Andrew, that clip of, like, Biden. Biden is up there giving his big red mayday speech up There. And he's like, these people thrive on chaos and darkness. They won't live until someone else loses. They put their boot on the neck. Okay, you're not saying anything. You're not saying anything. You're just. It's all fucking gibberish. It's all gibberish. No one's putting their boot on the jugular of the thing who thrives on. By the way. What do you mean? We thrive on chaos and darkness. I don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
Alicia Krause
It's dangerous gibberish.
Adam Carolla
Yes, it's dangerous. It's dangerous gibberish. I want to talk about tax codes and school choice. Can we talk about that? Because I don't know what your policies are on anything other than nothing. But everyone else is mean.
Alicia Krause
This was his Palpatine moment. He's got the red wall behind him, soldiers standing there.
Adam Carolla
Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.
Adam Friedland
Maga Republicans have made their choice.
Adam Carolla
They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth, but in the shadow of lies. But together. Together we can choose a different path. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans.
Alicia Krause
I live in the shadow of lies.
Adam Carolla
Shadow of lies. I want chaos. I hate people that look different. I'm angry and I don't like people that look different than me. That's the guy. Is that guy a groovy ghoulie? Oh, what is it from? What show was it from? The Munsters. The Gruesomes. God damn it, I knew it.
Alicia Krause
What is the gruesome?
Adam Carolla
Something that's lodged in my head from Hanna Barbera from like 1972 or something.
Alicia Krause
Wow.
Adam Carolla
Wow.
Alicia Krause
Never seen it.
Adam Carolla
They were guests on the Flintstones and then they got their own spin off show. And I weirdly. Here's how my brain works. I saw this clip two days ago and my head just went, huh, cartoon, 70s. Who was that guy? And then I went to the Groovy Ghoulies and it was wrong. But this is.
Alicia Krause
Sorry, it just happens so rarely.
Adam Carolla
I love to point it out. Well, ghoulies and gruesomes were where. What happened? But I'm gonna say this guy's dead nuts on. Yeah, this guy, right?
Alicia Krause
Yeah. I mean, if you're willing to chop off your dick to pretend to be a woman, maybe painting yourself green for Halloween isn't too far fetched.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. All right, meme me up, boys. Meme me up, Scotty. I wish our guy does the memes. Was named Scotty.
Alicia Krause
You can get him to change his name. Well, a lot of athletes do that. Remember Ocho Cinco?
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Alicia Krause
You know, you could be like, listen, we'll give you a raise. Oh, wow. That was the character on the Flintstones. Did Fred pepper spray him?
Adam Carolla
What year did they move. Move on to? All right, Brett, just show me. I'll do this after show. Show me.
Alicia Krause
I'm gonna go down a rabbit.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, show me.
Alicia Krause
So Mark Ruffalo.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Alicia Krause
He was mocked on over on X. This comes from our friends over at the Daily Wire because he posted a cartoon that went after Musk for cutting aid to usaid.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Alicia Krause
And then everybody was like, hey, bro, how much of your net worth have you given? Because turns out Elon has given a lot of.
Adam Carolla
Let's read what Mark Ruffalo has to say. But the reason I'm bringing it up is, pardon the pun, the cartoon part of it. Like, yes, he hates black people. He doesn't want kids to eat food. You know what I mean? Would you shut up? You sound so simple. And by the way, guess who the hero is? Every time Mark Ruffalo talks about Elon, Mark Ruffalo gets to be the hero because guess what? But he cares about young black people.
Alicia Krause
But actions speak louder than tweets. Sorry, I still call it tweets. I mean, Elon Musk's personal charitable donations were roughly 8.2 billion to 8.5 billion over the last just, I think, three years alone.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Alicia Krause
In 2024, the Musk foundation granted $474 million to causes like pediatric research and STEM education.
Adam Carolla
All right, let's read Dawson. What? Or you can read Alicia, what Elon. What Mark said about Elon Musk.
Alicia Krause
So the article, like the cartoon, is Elon Musk sitting at a table, you know, saying, like, with food all in front of him. And he's asking the young black kid, what are you staring at, African kid? To which the child responds, sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I haven't eaten since you killed usaid.
Adam Carolla
Right. And he's drinking champagne and eating cake.
Alicia Krause
Exactly. So then Ruffalo, like, subtweeted it and said, hello, Elon Musk, and tagged him. I mean, at least he had the ball to tag the guy. This is how you are perceived. Not too late to course. Correct. But it's getting pretty late. You certainly have the extra money on hand to really help the people of the world. Instead of the hell bent road of chaos and destruction, you are ludicrously barreling
Adam Carolla
down all right, the guy wants to go to Mars. Where's the chaos and destruction? Like, I was literally at a Tesla dealer on Saturday looking at Teslas. It seemed really orderly and nice to me. Yes, chaos and destruction. Is there a guy who wants chaos and destruction less than Elon Musk? It's crazy.
Alicia Krause
Haven't they also. Wasn't Ruffalo, along with Sean Penn and all these Hollywood people, very pro Ukraine and anti Russia? And have they forgotten that the liberal mecca of Los Angeles and the freedom fighters in Ukraine were given starlings and other things to help them fight them bad guys.
Adam Carolla
They forget survive. It's not like they know or think about anything. They're just fucking.
Alicia Krause
Did you ever forget that Tesla pays for employees to go across state lines to get abortions?
Adam Carolla
I didn't.
Alicia Krause
I mean, all the things that liberals allegedly care about.
Adam Carolla
Ruffalo is just an insane narcissist who wants to make himself sound better at every turn. And he also sounds dumb because if this is your takeaway from Elon. But what's so different between Ruffalo and Biden? Dark chaos. Chaos happy until others need to be punished and stuff. Yes. Yeah. Elon hates the black kids, and that's why he wants to get rid of usaid, who just.
Alicia Krause
That's a very wordy tweet, too.
Adam Carolla
All you guys do is waste money on that thing, too. And by the way. Okay, I don't have time. Alicia Krause, where do we find you?
Alicia Krause
Check out my Instagram. I got some new fun things happening soon.
Adam Carolla

In this wide-ranging, candid episode, Adam Carolla is joined in-studio by comedian and podcaster Adam Friedland. The focus moves from Friedland’s comedic beginnings and career in podcasting—highlighted by his notorious Gavin Newsom interview—to trenchant observations about authenticity in politics and media, generational shifts in public morality, and the perils and oddities of internet-era discourse. The discussion then pivots to sharp, unfiltered commentary on social identity, parent-child relationships, and contemporary political stunts. Alicia Krause caps the episode with news stories centered on radical leftist activism and viral law enforcement clips, keeping the tone irreverent and combative.

Unfiltered, irreverent, punchy, and filled with dark, self-deprecating humor, this episode balances personal insight with sharp cultural and political commentary. Carolla steers the show with comic skepticism, Friedland adds Piñata-worthy stories and deadpan analysis, and Alicia keeps the powder dry with pointed news and viral oddities. The episode is a snapshot of contemporary American absurdity, zero patience for virtue signaling, and a comedian’s-eye view of the world’s hypocrisy.
For listeners who missed out:
