
During last week's 'scrutiny week' - where the Government opens its books to review department spending and performance - the spotlight fell on NZ defence spending and capability. At the select committee for foreign affairs, defence and trade, it was revealed that our army's land combat capability has fallen to 45%. The picture's not that much better at sea, where we're sitting at 57% of our 'water protection capacity'.
