In this episode, we explored KardiaMobile, a $79 personal EKG device that allows users to record a medical-grade, single-lead electrocardiogram in about 30 seconds using their smartphone. The FDA-cleared device detects atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, tachycardia, and normal sinus rhythm, with additional detection capabilities available through an optional KardiaCare membership. We also explored questions around who this device is really for, how it compares to EKG-enabled smartwatches, the role of the subscription membership, and whether at-home heart monitoring provides genuine peace of mind or creates unnecessary health anxiety for everyday users.
