Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you thought it was. Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Dani Shapiro, and these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets.
Kristin Davis
He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move. And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off. And that was the last time I saw him.

Your twenties can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is mental health awareness month, and the psychology of your twenties is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face.
Kristin Davis
I was six years into M career, the 80 hour weeks and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my twenties that I like, was just so wanting to, like, be out of that
Meghan Trainor
phase out of my skin.
Kristin Davis
And I just, like, really regret not
Meghan Trainor
living in the present more.
Podcast Host (Guaranteed Human)
You don't need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Kristin Davis
Hi, I'm Kristen Davis, and I want
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
to know, are you a Charlotte?
Kristin Davis
Meghan Trainor's here, You guys. It's exciting.
Meghan Trainor
I'm so excited.
Kristin Davis
Before we started rolling, which. Really. My bad. Okay. Because it's a podcast and we're supposed to just record everything we say. But we were saying that she said to me, I feel like I've known you my whole life. And I said, aw. And then I said, it's such a nice feeling when you rewatch the show. Because I was traveling a bit and I was out not doing the podcast, thus not rewatching. And then I this morning watched two episodes and I was like, oh, it feels so good to be with us.
Meghan Trainor
It feels like you're back with your friends. Right. Which I haven't had. Like, I've never had. Like, it's us four girls, like, friendship groups like that in a long time.
Kristin Davis
Yeah, me too.
Meghan Trainor
So you guys are my friends. Thank you.
Kristin Davis
I mean, it's really just such a gift. It's such a gift to be a part of something like that. And because isn't this the episode where we. She. She does her first email. Carrie does her first email.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
I mean, were you dying watching that?
Meghan Trainor
Yeah. I was cracking up. I was like, so far, I don't even like emails.
Kristin Davis
I know. It's so crazy.
Meghan Trainor
I am not a fan.
Kristin Davis
Think about, like, the timelessness of the stories. Right?
Meghan Trainor
Like, we know that feeling with text messages.
Kristin Davis
Exactly. Like, every. Like, all the technology, it changes, yet the relationship issues stay the same to where it's completely relatable. Watching the episode, even for me, and I was part of it 80 million 100 years ago, but yet I'm reliving it again with all different thoughts in my head based on life, like, in the last decade.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah. And how he doesn't even, like, notice that he even got an email. Or he's like, oh, I think I trashed him. No idea. I know. It's so funny. That's like, us, see, Seeing if it's on red or not. Like, seeing if they read it or not. Like, did you see me pour my heart out to you or not?
Kristin Davis
Absolutely. Absolutely. It's so adorable, but also makes you think about like time and the changes in society. So many changes. Things are so different in some ways, but yet the basic issues are still the same.
Meghan Trainor
Exactly. Relationships.
Kristin Davis
It's super fascinating. Relationships.
Meghan Trainor
Babies.
Kristin Davis
Charlotte's got this whole plan. The baby.
Meghan Trainor
She wanted a baby.
Kristin Davis
Oh, it's sad.
Meghan Trainor
I am Charlotte, if you want to know. It's me. It's me, by the way.
Kristin Davis
I mean, look, you're dressed so you're like a modern, beautiful Charlotte right now.
Meghan Trainor
You're very together, riddled with anxiety. Are you so like empath? And I'm like, I'll take on everyone else's stuff. It's fine. And I want to be really cool, but I'm just trying. And I'm just quirky but like sometimes want to be fierce and stuff. Like I feel.
Kristin Davis
I love it. I love it all. I love it all.
Meghan Trainor
I mean to her the most, for sure.
Kristin Davis
Oh, the whole time?
Meghan Trainor
Yeah, the whole time.
Kristin Davis
Did you ever have doubts, like maybe I'm Carrie or maybe I'm.
Meghan Trainor
No, Carrie's too cool for me. But also she makes reckless choices that I just. I'm like, I'm smarter than that. Like interesting.
Kristin Davis
Interesting.
Meghan Trainor
I wish I. I write a lot of songs where I am Samantha, but I'm not in real life. But that's like a dream of mine. Like a fantasy.
Kristin Davis
Like you channel it.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah, I want to channel that. Like some. I'm in the the. I'm in the with my husband right now. We have five, two and a two month year old. Unbelievable. So our life isn't sexy at all.
Kristin Davis
I understand.
Meghan Trainor
So we're not like. We're not Samantha in the bedroom right now, you know?
Kristin Davis
Of course. And that's okay. That's okay.
Meghan Trainor
I've learned in marriage counseling that that's so normal.
Kristin Davis
Yeah.
Meghan Trainor
Because when you don't know how common and normal it is because not a lot of people talk about it, you're like, are we broken? And you're like, oh, no, we're just sleepy. We're genuinely sleepy. So of course we've like put more effort into that. Know I also fantasize one day when they're older that like me and my husband will get to a Samantha phase.
Kristin Davis
I think that's fantastic.
Meghan Trainor
I can't wait for that. It's gonna be great.
Kristin Davis
Everyone needs that, I think. And that's why she's such a great character. Because she's so unapologetically, you know, I love sex. I want sex. I'm not gonna get too attached. We have Just.
Meghan Trainor
And she's like, it's for me.
Kristin Davis
Exactly. Which is so great. Which is so great. And I think if you. It's interesting in terms of Samantha to think about, you know, are there other characters since then and kind of not.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah, no. Like, honestly. Right. Isn't that crazy?
Kristin Davis
Which is weird.
Meghan Trainor
Even, like, my boob job I just got after having my babies.
Kristin Davis
I. Congratulations. Houston goes.
Meghan Trainor
Oh, I got a lift and a small implant in there so they could be round. And even for the first time in my life. Wow. But I. I always made sure I told everyone that this was not for my husband. This was for me. For me to feel hotter. That's in my own skin. And it did. I can wear a bra and not duct tape myself to my shoulders.
Kristin Davis
Amazing.
Meghan Trainor
That makes me dance better and feel more confident. And, I mean, also, you perform, and
Kristin Davis
you're in a very intense business. I mean, sometimes I worry and I don't know, because I'm from the outside. Like, as much as acting is similar, it's very different from music. And I feel like for women in music, the pressure to be, like, hypersexual and diva and all of these things.
Meghan Trainor
Do you feel that it gets in your head? For sure, yeah. When I'm writing an album, they're like, what's it about? What are you going through? And I was like, I'm different than every other pop star right now. I'm wiping boogers and butts all day. So, like, I guess I want my music to be the diva girl. I feel like Hannah Montana a lot, where I get to be mama at home and, like, very humbled by my children. And then I get to go on stage and be full diva pop star.
Kristin Davis
Right?
Meghan Trainor
So. But it's. It's a confusing lane, and people are like, aren't you so confident and badass all the time? And I'm like, no, I'm mostly, like, crying and wiping butts. Like, I'm mostly like, if you saw me at home, I'm playing pirates. Like, I'm adorable, which is amazing.
Kristin Davis
But that's so great that. That you can have that. Because I feel like I worry when I don't want to say anyone's name, but there are people I worry about who are young, who get kind of pushed into this lane of, like, diva, hyper sexualized, you know?
Meghan Trainor
And I see that a lot too. And then I. I think maybe because I'm a mom and have kids and want to watch the music videos, I'm like, oh, we're not gonna watch this one. Change It. And so I'm. It's hard that change. And I'm like, yeah. Oh man, that's a bummer. Because like their music is so good and they're so talented. But like, I can't play that right now for my kids.
Kristin Davis
No, it's true. It's a real thing. I mean, my 8 year old does not know what the things mean.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
You know, which is fine. Right. But like he loves the music, but. But then I can't, you know, if he's on the iPad and something comes up and he's going to watch a video, I'm like, nah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's.
Meghan Trainor
Oh, we have to sit with them.
Kristin Davis
How did this happen? Like, it's so interesting.
Meghan Trainor
My kid had a phase of loving the Weeknd and there's a full music video where the Weeknd's teeth are bleeding, his nose is bleeding, he's driving a car in Vegas, very scary. And obviously like it's him doing drugs and. But my Riley is like, he's like a vampire. Yes, he's a vampire. And I just lie to him.
Kristin Davis
Like his son had a whole thing where he loved 21 Savage because, yes, Tesla felt the need to have this Tesla Countdown. And 21 Savage was on the Tesla Countdown. I didn't know who 21 Savage was or what he was singing about, but it has such a good beat. Right.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
And I think.
Meghan Trainor
Get it.
Kristin Davis
Yeah. And he, it was, he was like young, like six or something. He did not know what he's talking about. He does not know what the click, click sound is. He doesn't know anything.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
Right.
Kristin Davis
But then there came a time my nanny looked at me and I was like, yeah, like we should probably snip it in the bud. But it's hard, like culturally it's hard that things have gotten so kind of escalated, you know, in music especially, I feel like, because you can keep the R rated movies from them pretty easily, you know, but the music, I don't feel like it's just everywhere.
Meghan Trainor
It's everywhere. Yeah, true.
Kristin Davis
But then for you, I feel you have this incredible marriage and these kids and that's very grounding, I would think. And that's incredible because I don't worry like when the people don't have the grounding side. I worry what's gonna happen.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
Because you can't keep the other thing going forever.
Meghan Trainor
But it's also a confusing give and pull where I sat with my managers the other day and I was like, should I even be doing this pop star stuff or should I be like, writing just kids albums for, like, music for.
Kristin Davis
Could you do it?
Meghan Trainor
And I was told, like, well, you can't do both. You can't do this music video and have your boobs out and then sell a children's album. Oh, no. They said that to me. It's not fair. I was like, but why? Why can't I do anything? Like, I agree. I was pissed. I mean, I buy your children's album after this.
Kristin Davis
I would totally buy your children's album.
Meghan Trainor
Thank you so much.
Kristin Davis
Like, why can't you do both?
Meghan Trainor
I do it all. I agree. Yeah.
Kristin Davis
I think that's also, like, the interesting thing about women being kind of pigeonholed and put into a box, you know? Yeah, A box or whatever you to be, right?
Meghan Trainor
And why, you know, why.
Kristin Davis
Why can't we be everything?
Meghan Trainor
I know, right? And the comment sections are so mean. Now.
Kristin Davis
Don't look.
Meghan Trainor
I don't go anywhere.
Kristin Davis
Comment section.
Meghan Trainor
I don't go in there.
Kristin Davis
You don't go in there myself, I have occasionally, but I try really hard not to.
Meghan Trainor
Like, is it tough for you because you. You guys had, like, magazines and mean stuff written anywhere?
Kristin Davis
We did.
Meghan Trainor
We did for a long time. Or is it better?
Kristin Davis
Different. Different, I guess. I mean, back in the olden days, it would be hard because it was like, in the grocery store, right? Like, big, you know, headlines or whatever, you know, about whatever they were in a fuss about that week. You know what I'm saying? And my mom would always say, like, oh, I saw. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I'd be like, mom.
Meghan Trainor
My mom has me on Google alerts, right?
Kristin Davis
I don't think my mom understands Google alerts, but. Right. You have to. You have to not do that.
Meghan Trainor
I was like, mom, if I stop, you have to stop with me. She's like, well, just in case. And I'm like, just in case what? Right?
Kristin Davis
In case something happens. Yeah, I know. I think they worry, right? Which I totally understand. But I had to say to my mom, like, they don't always know what they're talking about, right? Like, you really, really have to not believe them. She'd call, very concerned about, you know, my girlfriend's like, what's happening? And I also went through a long phase of being really concerned about my girlfriends also, right? Like, not so much about me, but, like, what were they saying about my friends? Which is kind of worse, you know, like, you wanna.
Meghan Trainor
I was just in one of those. My mom group blew up, and it was everywhere on earth what happened. And it was so many stories. And I didn't even see these girls for like over a year. So I was like. But I like, keep in touch. Cuz I like working so much.
Kristin Davis
Right.
Meghan Trainor
That I slowly like faded away from the.
Kristin Davis
Well, that was my thought was like, how do they maintain that with the kids and the careers?
Meghan Trainor
They all worked way more than I did. So I was like, I'm not like, work together to like plan trips and be together, include everyone.
Kristin Davis
Wow, that's impressive.
Meghan Trainor
I love you all so much. I'm not gonna make it to holidays. I'm tired.
Kristin Davis
Right.
Meghan Trainor
Or I would tour for three months
Kristin Davis
and be like, oh my God, I can't imagine.
Meghan Trainor
But yeah, even seeing all that. Yeah. Like our, the our names got dragged all together and it's negative.
Kristin Davis
Why do people want to be negative like that?
Meghan Trainor
Mine, someone said to me, they were like, well, everyone's hating on Meghan Trainor right now, so I bet she's the bully. And I was like, excuse me.
Kristin Davis
What?
Meghan Trainor
I'm not even here.
Kristin Davis
I know.
Meghan Trainor
It's. I now like, have been hit so much that you're like. You kind of laugh and you're like, oh, silly.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
It's true.
Meghan Trainor
But I also feel for those girls who are human beings that I can text and be like, well, this sucks.
Kristin Davis
Right?
Meghan Trainor
And we're all typing like, yeah, sucks, but it's our life. But there's a lot of moms in that group that weren't famous. Right. That were like, I was ungoogle able. And now I'm out there everywhere. Like, you can. And that's horrible. And they were heartbroken.
Kristin Davis
I just don't even understand. I just. I feel the need for negativity. And that, that's one thing that I do feel is worse was that it used to just be kind of a handful of magazines. Right. And you kind of knew the players and you knew that one might be positive and one might be negative.
Meghan Trainor
Right.
Kristin Davis
So it would kind of even out now. It can really, like the trend can be like a wave, right? Yes. Where you actually didn't do anything. It's just how it's getting reported.
Meghan Trainor
Yep.
Kristin Davis
That is not actually accurate. But then it's very, very hard to stop that.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah. Like, how do you stop a wave? Everyone's like a journalist now, right?
Kristin Davis
And everyone has a platform. Yeah, absolutely. Everyone's opinion gets like, blasted.
Meghan Trainor
Right.
Kristin Davis
So I think it's really hard. I think it's really hard. The kind of like massiveness of it or the flow of it can be very uncontrollable now where you Just have to wait.
Meghan Trainor
I never, like, was affected that bad even 10 years ago, right. With all about that base. And I would hear some things, like people would hit on me, but I never read it online.
Kristin Davis
I never see it that bad. Yeah.
Meghan Trainor
And like, nowadays I'll be scrolling on TikTok, just like pooping on the toilet. And then there'll be a video of me, like a person randomly talking just about me, about how I look or, like being in the mom group. And I'm like, oh, my God, I was just trying to doom scroll while pooping, you know, like, I was in my safe place and now my safe place is taken away.
Kristin Davis
So that's true. No, I do think that's true.
Meghan Trainor
I feel like, block myself.
Kristin Davis
I think that's hard to do, but possible. I mean, my problem is this podcast, right? So like, previous to the podcast, I didn't have. My feed wasn't filled with Sex and city stuff, right? Because I would look at dog, dog videos. Right. And elephant videos, whatnot. And now, because I feel I, you know, I try to comment and we've got the podcast page, and therefore they want to tell me everything, you know, which is kind of fun, usually. And then occasionally not. And then if it. If it takes a turn, then I just have to stop. And now you can go into your algorithm and change it on Instagram, at least. I don't know about TikTok.
Meghan Trainor
I gotta learn how to do that. It's good.
Kristin Davis
It's good. It's helpful.
Meghan Trainor
You can.
Kristin Davis
You can start fresh.
Meghan Trainor
Oh, God. Okay, I'll do that tonight.
Kristin Davis
Yeah, because it's hard. Because you do want to have that break of being able to scroll like everyone else.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah. I just want to see doggies.
Kristin Davis
I get it.
Meghan Trainor
I just want to see things.
Kristin Davis
I get it. Me too.
Meghan Trainor
Or like asmr or like squishy things.
Kristin Davis
It's true. I went through an ASMR phase. I'm over. I don't know if, like, I loved it and then I was done, right? Then I was done. But the animal videos never end. And that's the good part, Right? Like, sometimes you just need that break when you're trying to go to bed or whatever, right? Like, trying to.
Meghan Trainor
I had to pick up reading. I was like, oh, man.
Kristin Davis
Totally. A book is safe. A book is very safe. I also have a page book, like on the paper, not on the, you know, no electronics. Right. I do have a paper book.
Meghan Trainor
Oh, yeah. I like the thick, hard covers. Right.
Kristin Davis
Like the olden days. It's good. And it's Also very calming.
Meghan Trainor
I. I just read Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
Kristin Davis
Ooh, I've heard that is good.
Meghan Trainor
It's.
Kristin Davis
Did you read Strangers?
Meghan Trainor
No, this is my first, like, book that I finished. Okay, Strangers.
Kristin Davis
Strangers.
Meghan Trainor
Put it down, Zena.
Kristin Davis
As I said, I have two children. I'm a single parent. I read that book in one day. That's how good it is.
Meghan Trainor
Okay. Strangers. I want it.
Kristin Davis
This woman is such an incredible writer. Bell Burden. Okay. I mean, it's like you just enter her life, like she just somehow opens a door. I mean, it's not an easy escape. It's complex. Is it murder?
Meghan Trainor
What is it?
Kristin Davis
No, no, no, no. It's relationship. Really upsetting relationship situation that anyone could find themselves in. You know what I'm saying? It's not. It's not like an escalated murder crime situation or anything like that. It's like emotional crime.
Meghan Trainor
Love emotional crime.
Kristin Davis
Yeah, it's emotional crime. Yeah. We're gonna have a Gwyneth movie. Gwyneth is gonna be her. But read it before so that you can have your own experience. That's my advice. Yes. Okay. Let's talk about the ultimate main character moment. You know the feeling. You wake up, the light is hitting your living room just right.

Jared O'Donnell
Hey, I'm Jared o'. Donnell. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out. Help on the Internet. Help.
Meghan Trainor
Somebody, please.
Jared O'Donnell
But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage and advice and thoughtful solutions.
Meghan Trainor
Psych.
Jared O'Donnell
I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream of chicken soup.
Kristin Davis
Hey Cream.
Jared O'Donnell
Cream of chicken soup. This is helpful from a hypocrite. The worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Cultura Podcast Network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Tom Bogart
The biggest decisions you're going to look
Tab Ramos

Tom Bogart
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
Tab Ramos
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
Tom Bogart
The World cup is almost here. Experience it all with USA usa. Listen to Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogerd and Tab ramos on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Cheryl Strayed
Hi, everyone. I'm Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild and Tiny Beautiful Things. I'm excited to share that I have a new podcast called Mind Over Mountain. In each episode, I interview athletes, adventurers and adrenaline seekers to discuss the inner landscapes and life experiences that informed and inspired their extraordinary feats. I also bring a bit of advice into the mix so we too can better understand how to face our own seemingly insurmountable challenges.
Unknown Motivational Speaker
You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to pull out what you already have inside. We're coming into this world fighting for our lives. All I'm gonna do is pull out what you already got inside.
Kristin Davis
We're there to support and Celebrate each other. And that is not like a your story versus my story.
Cheryl Strayed
You're gonna walk up and over that dang mountain. You're not just gonna put your mind over it.
Unknown Motivational Speaker
Yep, yep, exactly. And if I can't walk up and over it, I'm gonna go through it.
Cheryl Strayed
Listen to Mind Over Mountain every Thursday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Kristin Davis
All right, so my Hyundai hot take for this episode has got to be the ending where Aiden comes back to Carrie's apartment and throws the rocks up at her window because she's throwing the rocks earlier. And this obviously stays until. And just like that, they still throw rocks at each other's window, which is so adorable. And then she enters the door, and they just, you know, come together.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
And it's filmed in slow mo, I believe.
Kristin Davis
And it's so beautiful. It's so beautifully shot and so real, but also, like, the best kind. It's like a movie moment, you know, like, just so, so yummy. And they're both so good in it. So that's my Hyundai hot take. Celebrating iconic moments, bold moves, and unforgettable style. Just like Hyundai. Let's talk about you. And. Okay, so you're obviously much younger than me. How old were you when the show was on? Did you watch it Originally?
Meghan Trainor
My mom watched it, and I remember walking into her bedroom every night because I was, like, so codependent. Was like, hey, mom and dad. And I remember my mom specifically be like, shut the TV off. Shut the TV off. And I was like, why? What is it? And that's. That was my first introduction to Sex in the City.
Kristin Davis
That's so cute.
Meghan Trainor
So that. Yeah, that was when I first learned about it. And then when I was older, like, I watched, I think, all of it by myself and loved it and understood what everyone was talking about. But I haven't watched it in so long. But every now and then I see the episodes or if I'm on a plane, it's, like, great to pop on. But this episode that we watched, for this particular episode, I've seen this one for some reason, like, three times. That's why I keep watching this episode. It's a really good one. It's called Baby Talk episode.
Kristin Davis
Yeah. Which is weird. I'd forgotten all about that. I had forgotten all about.
Meghan Trainor
I was like, why do I keep watching? And when she's sweaty and hot and running from the marathon, and I'm like, she's exactly what I would do to. I'd be like, oh, God, I'm sweaty.
Kristin Davis
I know. I forgot about this particular season. Season four in my mind, just kind of doesn't exist. I remember season three really, really well, and I don't remember season four. And so I don't know. Michael Patrick says he's gonna come on and help me with my amnesia. Okay, good.
Meghan Trainor
I feel like.
Kristin Davis
I feel like. I feel like some of it is because this season three is when we started getting nominated for stuff.
Meghan Trainor
Okay.
Kristin Davis
Which was a big deal. Right. Like, we never expected it to happen. It was so exciting. And it meant that, like, the Emmys and the Golden Globes are like six months apart. And so your whole year kind of revolved partly, number one, about filming the series, and then number two, about doing all the stuff you had to do for the series to support the series. Right?
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
So it kind of became a year round. That was when we bolted into this, like, year round traveling, you know, going to Europe, doing photo shoots, you know, doing the awards. It was really fun. But it was also just a lot. Like, I always had my passport in my bag. Like, I was ready.
Meghan Trainor
Do you know what I mean?
Kristin Davis
I was super into it.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
Right.
Kristin Davis
I had no kids, I had no relationship. I mean, I also think I. Do you think there was something going on personally in this particular summer? Possibly July 1, 2001? Yes. This summer. How old were you in 2001?
Meghan Trainor
I was born in 93. Anybody got that math?
Kristin Davis
Oh, adorable. Adorable. So adorable. That's the other thing that's so funny about it is, you know, I don't feel old. Right. Like, I feel very.
Meghan Trainor
You're not.
Kristin Davis
Thank you. But when you do start to look at the year, you're like, whoa, 2001. That was a big year. A lot changed in 2001, but the summer before 911 was like the glorious New York. Like, almost like, everything was brighter, more fun, extra wonderful, glorious. The whole summer was that way. And then 911 obviously, like, changed the city forever and changed all of our lives forever, you know.
Meghan Trainor
That's what happened. That's what happened.
Kristin Davis
Yes. So, but like, the summer before, it was just like, everything good, you know, everything good, but also super, super busy. So I think that's partly why I don't remember, but also, like, I think because for Charlotte is the continuation of the Trey storyline, which she gets married in season three. So in my mind, there wasn't a clear demarcation between season three and season four. Right. Like, emotionally, I'm still in the same. You know, I'm trying to make it work with Trey. I'm hoping that.
Meghan Trainor
Trying to make babies.
Kristin Davis
Trying to make babies. That's season four, not season three, but obviously getting married. The whole picture. She's trying to create this picture that she has in her mind. Right.
Meghan Trainor
Well, this episode too, when you guys are sitting with your friends and they have three kids. I'm the girl with three kids.
Kristin Davis
What did you think when you watched that?
Meghan Trainor
Oh, man, I was just laughing because I see both sides and. But I'm literally the girl. My managers. None of my team. Except Luki Poops. None of my Luki Poops. Sorry, Luke. I have weird nicknames for my whole team. None of my team. Most of them aren't even married yet or don't have children. So they'll FaceTime me about a wardrobe problem and I'll have my 2 year old screaming and I'll be like, one second, please. I'll call you right back. And they always tell me that they're laying in bed with their boyfriend. They're like, this is how I know I'm not ready. Like, I get a lot of those. I get a lot of.
Kristin Davis
So you are the.
Meghan Trainor
I'm the girl with the.
Kristin Davis
I understand, I understand.
Meghan Trainor
But I'm like, in heaven and chaos. And of course I have a lot of my friends going, maybe we're gonna wait. Even my siblings. I'm like, what do you mean you're gonna wait?
Kristin Davis
This is fun.
Meghan Trainor
Like, my. My kids need friends, like, make babies. And they're like, it's interesting.
Kristin Davis
Like, did you. Did you want the children?
Meghan Trainor
Like, did you think 22. I want a baby.
Dani Shapiro
Wow.
Meghan Trainor
I was dating my husband and we were walking by diapers at a store, and I started crying and I was like, I know it's too soon. I know everyone will judge me, but I feel like I'm supposed to be buying these diapers right now, and I don't understand.
Kristin Davis
Well, listen, if you feel it deeply, that's what's important.
Meghan Trainor
I waited all the way till 26.
Kristin Davis
Amazing.
Meghan Trainor
I got married at 25. And a year later, during COVID we were like, well, this is our break. This is our time. Let's go.
Kristin Davis
Definitely. Oh, yeah.
Meghan Trainor
Then started getting pregnant then.
Kristin Davis
Amazing.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah. 26.
Kristin Davis
I just think, you know, it's different for everyone. And I think the important thing is to listen, like, deeply. Don't. Don't be affected by what's around you. Don't let their outside pressure affect what you want, either pro or against or whatever. You know what I'm saying? If that's about marriage, it's about Children, everything. But it's sometimes hard to listen to the inner voice. So good for you.
Meghan Trainor
Especially with my career, too. Even, like, after baby number one, I, like, had a hit with Made youe Look, which, like, never happens and not in my career 10 years later. So I'm like, oh, no. I finally have momentum again. Like, do I really want another baby right now? While I'm, like, killing it. And my team was so supportive. They're the best. And they were like, don't think. Just answer. You want another baby? And I was like, yep. And they're like, that's it, then. Do it. Definitely. It was the best.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
Good for them that they said that.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
I'm so glad. I mean, I can't even imagine doing both, though. Though. It's a lot.
Meghan Trainor
It's a lot. It's a lot.
Kristin Davis
I mean, the thing that's interesting is, like, I feel like being a parent is so creative.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
Like, you have to be so creative.
Meghan Trainor
We're so silly. Right?
Kristin Davis
It's really important and good, and it does kind of feed our creative lives.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
But yet it's hard to do both at the same time.
Meghan Trainor
It is so hard. Yes. We can do it all, though.
Kristin Davis
I know. Me, too.
Meghan Trainor
I literally said the other day, crying to my husband. I was like, but I thought I was doing it all. I thought I am doing it.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
I think you are doing.
Meghan Trainor
He's like, I think you are. And I was like, it doesn't feel like I am. It doesn't. What do you mean? Sometimes. Well, Mike, I feel like my career is failing if I'm doing great at home.
Kristin Davis
Oh, I understand.
Meghan Trainor
And I'm, like, very dramatic and hard on myself. And I'm like, well, I don't have a hit, or no one even knows my album's coming out. And I, like, I just go negative, negative, negative. And then he's like, but you have three beautiful, healthy children, and we're thriving. Look at this. Look at our life. And I'm like, oh, yeah. I am crushing it.
Kristin Davis
I also feel like there's no way, like, whenever we're promoting, like, the show or whatever it is.
Meghan Trainor
Right.
Kristin Davis
You. It's. It's not a loop where you can feel satisfaction. Yeah.
Meghan Trainor
Ever. Right? Yeah. And it's like a. It's. It's a weird job where you work really hard, and that's not where you get paid. So you're like, this will be worth it. Right. And it's.
Kristin Davis
And I think it is worth it. And I also think you just have to do it. It's one of those things where you just have to do it. Doing it is it. That is the end of result. Right. Do you know what I'm saying?
Meghan Trainor
I did it.
Kristin Davis
And you just have to do it and do the best you can do at. Okay, let's talk about the show.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
I'm like, we'll never get to this. I know. But it's gonna. It's really fun. It's a really fun conversation. Okay. This episode is called Baby Talk is Cheap. And it is directed by Michael Spiller, who had been our dp and he had wanted to direct. Yeah. So this is fourth season, so it took him a while. I feel like maybe he directed last season. And it's written by Cindy Shupak, who is one of our women writers. I think she was the second women writer to be hired. And then she's an executive producer at this point with our other female writer, Jenny. So Jenny and Cindy are, like, key to the whole picture. And they have so many funny stories. Their stories were a lot of what our stories were based on, not our stories. Right. It had to be either one of the writers stories or someone they knew, like, they're a good friend. So that there was, like, verification that it was real. I know, I know. Really interesting. Everyone always thought it was ours, but it had nothing to do with us, thank God. You know what I mean? Much easier to play other people's stories, you know? Now this is a really interesting storyline with Aiden. How do you feel about Aiden?
Meghan Trainor
That he was the one you really. I know. I. I just, like, love them, seeing them together.
Kristin Davis
They're so good, right?
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
The chemistry.
Meghan Trainor
The chemistry. And this is where she flies to him and it's like a magic scene. It was good.
Kristin Davis
It was really good.
Meghan Trainor
But he's also, like, super emotional, which I love, because you don't see especially, like. Like, in that time, I don't know, a lot of tough guys being like, you broke my heart.
Kristin Davis
Oh, I know. He really delivers that so beautifully.
Meghan Trainor
So it's so good. And her being desperate for him. I loved all that, but I just root for them. Every time I saw them, I was like, oh, come on, guys, figure this out.
Kristin Davis
I know. I felt the same way. And I used to be. I mean, I've said this before, so a listeners, I'm sorry, but I used to be kind of big team big, because Charlotte was team big. And I didn't really think about it separately from Charlotte. And then when I watch it back, like, oh, no.
Meghan Trainor
Oh, no.
Kristin Davis
Back then, that was kind of normal. To have this kind of aloof, you know, unavailable guy. Right. But when I watch it, Hayden is dreamy.
Meghan Trainor
Dreamy, Dreamy.
Kristin Davis
But also, like, I feel for him. You know, I really feel for him. And I really should be on her side, but I'm like, oh, I feel for him. It's very interesting to rewatch.
Meghan Trainor
They torture each other.
Kristin Davis
They really. In a way, but they don't mean to. And I think that's what's so relatable. Right.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
Like, you can understand their, like, what's happening?
Meghan Trainor
Communication.
Kristin Davis
Yeah. But also, like, I mean, I don't know, like, as I'm rewatching it, I'm. I mean, it's interesting. Like, I don't really remember. I don't know what's going to happen. I mean, I know what's going to happen, but I don't know why. Do you know what I'm saying?
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
Like, I don't know why. Why can't Carrie ever work it out? Do you know what I'm saying?
Meghan Trainor
Yeah. I can't remember.
Kristin Davis
Interesting. Me neither. But when you're. When you're watching it, you just go in it. Wherever they are.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
Which is what's so kind of amazing. Like, even though I have a lot of other knowledge. Right.
Meghan Trainor
Even at the end, too, they, like, finally got together and he's like, I gotta think about it. And I was like, why?
Kristin Davis
I know. That was good, though.
Meghan Trainor
And she's like, awesome. I'll just live with my thoughts.
Kristin Davis
I know. But she deserves that.
Meghan Trainor
She did. She did.
Kristin Davis
She totally deserves that. She did break his heart. And like you said, he is this kind of feeling guy.
Cheryl Strayed
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
But he's also smart that he was
Meghan Trainor
aware to emotionally aware. To be like, like.
Kristin Davis
Right.
Meghan Trainor
I'm not gonna go fully in right now. Yeah.
Kristin Davis
Right. Which is so good.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
It's interesting. And it's also good for her to kind of sit with her own actions.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
You know, what did I actually do? Because I do feel like Carrie is very, like, impulsive. I don't know if that's really the right word. Right. Like, it's interesting to look at.
Meghan Trainor
Accountability is tough. It is. Which is sitting in it.
Kristin Davis
I wouldn't have ever thought that before. But I do know people complain about Carrie. Whatever. But I also feel like that's unfair because everyone does the best they can do and you have all these different feelings. And she's a deeply feeling person who's not necessarily super comfortable with her feelings.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
You know, so it's interesting that she's drawn to Aiden who is more comfortable with his feelings as a guy very opposite to me. It's good. Right. But then obviously there's also Big, who's not comfortable with his feelings. It's all very interesting, but I relate to all of it in terms of, like, you know, you. You want what you want and you don't.
Meghan Trainor
I married me and Aiden, like a softie. You did, sweetheart. Yeah.
Kristin Davis
That's so nice.
Meghan Trainor
I know. It's the best. That's so nice.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
It's hard to find them.
Meghan Trainor
It's very rare.
Kristin Davis
Right.
Meghan Trainor
He was. He was born in California. I think that helped a lot.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
Okay.
Meghan Trainor
Me and my brothers are from the east coast, so we're like, you stuff your feelings down and we never talk about them.
Kristin Davis
Sure.
Meghan Trainor
And he was like, let's meditate on this. And they were like, wow.
Kristin Davis
Huh?
Meghan Trainor
And now they're like, we should meditate. We understand you.
Kristin Davis
He's an actor.
Meghan Trainor
Yes.
Kristin Davis
That also sometimes can help.
Meghan Trainor
Is that what it is?
Kristin Davis
Well, I mean, it's a mixed bag, right? Like, actors in general were supposed to be, you know, other people's feelings, but, like, expressive, like in touch with emotions so that we can hopefully access them. Right.
Meghan Trainor
Could you tell when they're lying or not?
Kristin Davis
I can tell when actors are lying.
Meghan Trainor
Me too. I could. I. And I'll be like, that whole thing is not real. Yeah.
Kristin Davis
I don't think that's real. Because the thing about actors is that, yes, we play other people, but it's a learned thing. Right. Like, you have a script and you learn it, you're not really lying.
Meghan Trainor
Yeah.
Kristin Davis
You have to find the emotional truth of it. I think that whole thing is like, fake news or whatever. You know what I'm saying? Like, that you never know if an actor's telling the truth. I don't think that's true at all. I think actors are more transparent than your average person on the street.
Meghan Trainor
I just know my husband too well, where I know, like, his twitch and, like, his little face, and I'm like, wow.
Kristin Davis
Yeah.
Podcast Advertiser/Promoter
Well, good for you.
Kristin Davis
I mean, you guys have been together since you were really young, so that's really good.
Meghan Trainor
I think that's great.
Kristin Davis
That's amazing, you guys. Megan is too much fun. So we're definitely going to split our conversation into two. Please join us again in a couple days for part two with Meghan Trainor

Podcast: Are You A Charlotte?
Host: Kristin Davis
Guest: Meghan Trainor
Episode: S4 E6 "Baby, Talk Is Cheap"
Date: April 20, 2026
In this lively and earnest episode, Kristin Davis (Charlotte York on Sex and the City) sits down with singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor to discuss the enduring magic of the series, motherhood, relationships, the complexities of balancing a public persona, and the ways in which Meghan embodies true Charlotte energy. Touching on both the rewatch of Sex and the City episode "Baby, Talk Is Cheap," and honest, funny insights on modern womanhood, the conversation is heartfelt, relatable, and sparkling with optimism and humor.
"I was traveling a bit and I was out not doing the podcast, thus not rewatching. And then I this morning watched two episodes and I was like, oh, it feels so good to be with us." (03:29)
"I was cracking up. I was like, so far, I don't even like emails." – Meghan (04:10)
They note how, while technology has changed, the anxieties about reaching out and being vulnerable in relationships remain the same.
"All the technology, it changes, yet the relationship issues stay the same to where it's completely relatable..." – Kristin (04:22)
"I am Charlotte, if you want to know. It's me. It's me, by the way." (05:22)
"You're very together, riddled with anxiety. Are you so like empath? And I'm like, I'll take on everyone else's stuff. It's fine. And I want to be really cool, but I'm just trying. And I'm just quirky but like sometimes want to be fierce..." (05:33)
"I'm in the with my husband right now. We have five, two and a two month year old. Unbelievable. So our life isn't sexy at all... we're not Samantha in the bedroom right now, you know?" (06:12)
"Because when you don't know how common and normal it is because not a lot of people talk about it, you're like, are we broken? And you're like, oh, no, we're just sleepy." (06:37)
"I feel like Hannah Montana a lot, where I get to be mama at home and, like, very humbled by my children. And then I get to go on stage and be full diva pop star." (08:16)
"Culturally it's hard that things have gotten so kind of escalated, you know, in music especially, I feel like, because you can keep the R rated movies from them pretty easily... but the music, I don't feel like it's just everywhere." – Kristin (10:31)
"Now, comment sections are so mean. Now." (12:00)
"But I also feel for those girls who are human beings that I can text and be like, well, this sucks." (14:23)
"Don't look. You don't go anywhere. Comment section." (12:04)
"Now. It can really, like the trend can be like a wave, right? Yes. Where you actually didn't do anything. It's just how it's getting reported." – Kristin (15:01)
"After baby number one, I, like, had a hit with Made You Look...So I'm like, oh, no. I finally have momentum again. Like, do I really want another baby right now? While I'm killing it. And my team was so supportive. They're the best. And they were like, don't think. Just answer. You want another baby? And I was like, yep. And they're like, that's it, then. Do it." (29:31)
"I literally said the other day, crying to my husband. I was like, but I thought I was doing it all. I thought I am doing it." – Meghan (30:21)
"This episode is called Baby Talk is Cheap. And it is directed by Michael Spiller, who had been our dp and he had wanted to direct..." (31:43)
"Jenny and Cindy are, like, key to the whole picture. And they have so many funny stories. Their stories were a lot of what our stories were based on, not our stories. ...Much easier to play other people's stories, you know?" (31:57)
"And this is where she flies to him, and it's like a magic scene. It was good." – Meghan (32:47)
"But he's also, like, super emotional, which I love...You don't see especially, like, in that time, I don't know, a lot of tough guys being like, you broke my heart." (32:54)
"I used to be kind of big team big, because Charlotte was team big. And I didn't really think about it separately from Charlotte. And then when I watch it back, like, oh, no...Aiden is dreamy." (33:16–33:43)
"But I'm like, in heaven and chaos. And of course I have a lot of my friends going, maybe we're gonna wait. Even my siblings. ...My kids need friends, like, make babies. And they're like, it's interesting." (28:21–28:36)
"I was dating my husband and we were walking by diapers at a store, and I started crying and I was like, I know it's too soon...but I feel like I'm supposed to be buying these diapers right now..." (28:41)
On being a Charlotte:
"I am Charlotte, if you want to know. It's me. It's me, by the way." – Meghan (05:22)
Describing Modern Life:
"I'm wiping boogers and butts all day. So, like, I guess I want my music to be the diva girl. I feel like Hannah Montana a lot, where I get to be mama at home and, like, very humbled by my children." – Meghan (08:16)
On dealing with negativity:
"My mom has me on Google alerts, right?" – Meghan (12:41)
"I was like, mom, if I stop, you have to stop with me. She's like, well, just in case. And I'm like, just in case what? Right?" (12:47)
Perspective on relationships:
"The chemistry. And this is where she flies to him, and it's like a magic scene. It was good." – Meghan (32:47)
On creative life as a parent:
"I feel like being a parent is so creative...You have to be so creative." – Kristin (30:02)
With candid self-examination, warmth, and plenty of laughter, Kristin and Meghan dig into what it means to be a Charlotte—ambitious, sometimes anxious, but always leading with heart. They touch on parenting, public scrutiny, and the enduring relatability of Sex and the City, making connections between “then” and “now.” Their conversation feels like the supportive, funny, and occasionally vulnerable conversation you’d want to have with friends over coffee.
Stay tuned: Their conversation wraps with a promise of a Part Two.
