and down the west coast checking on the how things are going for one thing with the street drug addict population. We were just talking to Jason Rance who's up in Seattle where they didn't used to have street drug people at all and now they got lots. I was in San Francisco over the weekend where it used to be horrible, but the mayor has done a really good job of cleaning up, especially the, the nice commercial areas that used to be just full of drug addicts laying in the street. Now I saw one in an entire day of running around, shopping and doing stuff, which is really quite amazing. We all know what happened in LA with Spencer Pratt making that a big issue. He got rejected because they want to continue down the road of craziness in Los Angeles. And now we check in with Mark Larson, Southern California San Diego radio legend for forever, really, in the Mark Larson show. Sometimes you see him on Fox. Mark, welcome to the Armstrong and Getty Show.
Joe Getty
Hey Jack, can I get pink eye over my phone?
Jack Armstrong
I hope not. I'd never had it before. I used to mock people who got pink eye like they were weak or something. And now I've got it this.
Joe Getty
Tell me you're the famous jockey Lafitte. Pink eye. Yeah, that's a stretch.
Jack Armstrong
How's the street just to start here because like I said, I've, I've talked about it in all the major west coast cities. Oh, and Joe, who's on vacation, checked in from Vancouver and was talking about watching people shoot up there. So all the major cities of the west coast have checked in on the street person conversation today. How are things looking in San Diego?
Joe Getty
Well, San Diego has a continuing challenge, shall we say, with the, like they like to say, the people experiencing homelessness or the unhoused. I posted this show, your progress at Mark Larson Radio on Facebook. What I was doing two years ago and I did this periodically with a group called Alpha Project. We go out and do shows, do special reports from the encampments. So I've seen firsthand the numbers. You know, you get the people with mental illness, you have the people with drug abuse problems or both, and that's the majority. But then you have people who just like the lifestyle, want to be left alone. And this dystopian place we uncovered, then finally the politicians cleaned it up, was under the 5 at the 5 and 8 freeway. It was like Gilligan's island on crack. It was an actual crack. It was amazing. But the problem is the city will clamp down. You know, when the Padres are playing down at Petco park, suddenly the streets will get better. It moves. Sometimes they move out of the downtown area, go to the riverbed, San Diego river. And I've been to some of those places. That's an amazing, you know, under bamboo, in the weeds, living area down there. So the problem is that the pros, and this through the state as well, they know that they, if they get moved by the city, any city, they can move to Caltrans property under the freeways, the ramps or whatever, and they'll probably have three or four weeks there before they get rousted by Caltrans. So it's back and forth. So it's better. Better in some areas, but it's just moving around. We still have something like almost 10,000 people on the streets, and they're in a lot of places, so they're creative. I'll give them that.
Jack Armstrong
Well, the politicians tell us we're all just one break away from living under an overpass. But I feel like there are some other decisions that come along with it. As you, you know, visit these encampments, is it usually just people start out, you know, recreational drugs, and it becomes a bigger deal and you lose your job and the next thing you know, you're living on the street.
Joe Getty
Yeah, there's a lot of that. I, you know, and having done, I think we've been out eight or nine of these so far. And I'm going to go out again soon and see, you know, assess this. But I see it around all the time as well. But in the camps, I can't think of maybe one or two times out of talking with dozens of people where they said, you know, I couldn't afford my rent and that's why I'm here.
Jack Armstrong
Right?
Joe Getty
It was, you know, these are, as I like to call them, urban outdoorsmen. In many cases, anecdotally, probably 15 or 20% who just like the lifestyle. There was one case I was down in Mission Valley. So it was 163 freeway. We're over there, three or four tents in this. In this ravine, this canyon. Other side of the street you could see Bloomingdale. So you got the two worlds here. And there's a guy in the tent and said, do you need any medical stuff? You want to get him now? I just want to be left alone. Well, that's not an option. How about the guy in the next tent? He says, well, that's my son. So now you get two generations. And then. And then I find out that the guy says, you know, my mom, I grew up in this on the streets in Arizona. She's still there. She's been there for the last 30 years. So now you got three generations. I said, what do you do during the day? He said, I hop on the trolley right here, and then I go around the county. I said, what do you do when you do that? He goes, oh, I recycle cans and bottles. Maybe he did, but most people, you know, had figured out how to, you know, work the crime. So. And then you've got a percentage, 10, 15%, whatever the number of people who are unhoused, and they prey on other homeless people, which is especially disgusting. So this is California, though. As long as we give them incentives, it's. It keeps on going. It just moves around.
Jack Armstrong
It is California, and you know a lot about California. And I'm just wondering, does this investigation Trump's Justice Department has into Gavin Newsom and his wife have legs? Is this a real thing? Is this just lawfare? Is this Trump just jerking around Gavin Newsom, or do you think there's some there there that could actually drive Gavin out of the race?
Joe Getty
Well, you've been around a long time, Jack and Joe, and then I've been here on the radio in San Diego since, well, 50 years ago. As of just a few days ago, June 12th. I've seen it come and go. We've been marinating in all things Newsom. We know he's been sort of there as governor and before that, lieutenant governor, and acted like he just is surprised by a lot of this. The money questions, I think, are very legit. He can. He can say it's lawfare or whatever, and that's been his social media presence with trolling. But I believe there's a lot of error there. And I think it was Herb Morgan, who's running for a state controller. He said it best when he was talking about the abuse with the hospice centers in Minnesota. He said, that's the jv. California is going to be the varsity. The numbers are so much bigger. So either Newsom is totally innocent of this stuff and there's nothing funny, which means he's even more clueless than we thought or he's just really, really good at just covering the trail. So we shall see. But I think they're onto it. They should stay out.
Jack Armstrong
Man, that piece, the California Post, I had, I think yesterday with the timing of various people donating money and then ending up with a job two days
Joe Getty
later, isn't that convenient? That's Politics 101. You know, it's been done for years. Yeah, but what about the other side? You know, the Clintons did, you know, the Clinton foundation, remember it was all pay for play kind of stuff. And I remember John Bolton, who's had his own issues. But back at the tape, when, when in 2016, Hillary said, and Bill said, you know, when Hillary's elected, we will no longer do the Clinton Foundation. And Bolton told me he said that's because they already got all the money.
Jack Armstrong
Yeah.
Joe Getty
They think they've got through all the donors. So, you know,
Jack Armstrong
that'd be something if he got driven out of the race, though. I mean, you talk about a wide open situation for the nomination for the Democratic Party at that time.
Joe Getty
Wow. You know, you know that his fellow Democrats really don't like him. This is like if there was a head to head with Kamala Harris and Gavin, there's no love lost there. Somebody is going to be there. Unless Newsom, I'm sure his strategy is to be. He's kind of doing some of this the exalted, the handsome guy who's so glib and he just is so energetic and well, you know, if he gets that kind of momentum into, into debates, into primaries, that's one thing. But I would love to see a debate with the usual 15 or 16 or 18 Democrat candidates because several of them will try to take him out at the knees and that'll be fun to watch.
Jack Armstrong
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I kind of like him to stick around long enough for his record to be, you know, shown to the, the whole country by other Democrats.
Joe Getty
Yep, yep. And then right now we've got all the Mandami factor and what's going on with that and where L. A May go with Noodles Ramen, you know, with all this, we'll see where that goes. But, you know, he's, he's trying to position himself, Newsom, as some big moderate now and, and against that he kind of looks that way because there's so much beyond, you know, Bengals, Canada, even the fringiest part of our assembly and state Senate in California. So that's saying something. You know, he moves so far to the Left that the, that the former lefties look moderate.
Jack Armstrong
Since you mentioned Mamdani and the. And the socialists or communists. Do you. Are you worried that there's actually a growing appetite for socialism in this country?
Joe Getty
Yes and no. I mean, in certain categories. The problem is that the people who are getting out there and are organized better than some of the people who vote reasonably and think it through. Those people are, you know, the thinkers are too busy, you know, raising kids. If they live in California, they're busy, you know, just trying to make ends meet with all the heavy expenses and regulation and everything else, and infrastructure problems, dodging the homeless, what have you. But for the. Whatever the number is 20 or 30% who are just. They don't know what they don't know, so everything sounds great. Free this, free that. You know, they're still living in mom's basement, you know, at age 26 or 40. And, you know, to them it's like I'm doing something fantastic. And they. So. So that's the problem. It's. I don't think it's that. I know it's not like 80 or 90% of the voting public suddenly going all mum, dummy, but it's that 30% or whatever the number is of the people who just vote because they're told or that's all they know, or maybe be watching Colbert. That was their news, you know, you name it. So they vote with emotion. You know, the emotion, not facts. So it's a problem because they're also aided by, you know, the mainstream media with the way that they. The perception is the whole world's gone to this. Well, you know, if New York goes bankrupt by the fall, which some have said will happen, that's a whole different part of the story. So.
Jack Armstrong
Well, I was looking at the Gallup poll on how the. The numbers have shifted in the wrong direction. When you ask, particularly people in the Democratic Party, socialism or capitalism? It's now 2/3 of people choose socialism or capitalism. And I was thinking about, I've got one kid in a private school and one kid in a public school. And my kid in public school came home right before the school year ended, talking about how in the early 20th century, they made kids work in the factories or whatever. And, and I thought everything he hears in the public school are the negatives of capitalism. They've. He's never been pitched. The more people have been lifted out of poverty by this system than anything else in world history. They never. I never got that in public school. Even back in the day. They certainly don't now where my son in private school, he does get that pitch. But of course you're going to come to that opinion. If all you've ever been taught is the negatives, right?
Joe Getty
It's all America sucks. You should feel very guilty. That's why it's so refreshing during all the World cup activity. And I know you've talked about it. We've talked about the people coming here from Europe where they've been indoctrinated, just like public schools have done that for years. That's all they've known is how horrible we are. They get here and go, I am so thrilled I'm going to Walmart. I'm just, you know, and they're having, it's great to watch that. It's ironic that the visitors from foreign countries have a better patriotic US 250 spirit than many Americans do. Good Lord.
Jack Armstrong
That's an excellent, excellent point to end on the Mark Larson Show. You can find Mark Larson all kinds of different places. You'll see him on FOX News Channel. Hey, Mark, appreciate your time today.
Joe Getty
All right. Thanks, Jack.
Jack Armstrong
You betcha. That is exactly right. The reason this has become like a meme, these people coming from around the world to the World cup soccer is because they've been fed by the media and probably their schooling also about how awful America is in particular under the Trump era that, you know, and, you know, people are being shot in the streets and it's a theocracy and all these different sorts of things. Then you get here to the United States and look around and they're having a good time. And that's, that's one of the best parts that's happened at the World cup is watching the foreign population be amazed at our lifestyle and our wealth. And like Mark just said, they have a better view of the United States than a lot of our young people do, which is not good. Anyway, more on the way. Stay here.

Goodbye. This is such an interesting, interesting thing for me. I've been reading about communism and socialism my whole adult life. Just kind of is a, an historical item, you know, something from the past. And here it is showing up again in our lives. More on that in a little bit anyway.

That's right. Do we have any idea what year that was that Vin Scully was talking about Venezuela during a Dodgers game? Made him do that. I think that was toward the end when he was starting to slip a little. Still really great. Always like Vin Scully. But I don't think a younger Vin Scully would have ever commented on the fact that the dictator of Venezuela's daughter had made too much money under socialism. Anyway, Owen 2. Which is damn hilarious.
Joe Getty
Anyway, Owen 2,
Jack Armstrong
anybody's eyes bothering them there at work? Because I came in yesterday clearly contagious with conjunction, more commonly known as pink eye. It's very, very contagious. I was in a lot of pain yesterday. My one eyeball hurt. And so I made a walk in appointment of my doctor right after I got off the air yesterday. Didn't even do a One more thing podcast. I went straight to the doctor. That's how much pain I was in. But that's how much I love the listeners of the Armstrong and Getty Show. I still showed up 1. One eye bulging with pain. Anyway, I went to the walk in appointment at the doctor, and they looked me over and they said, you got pink eye in. Which was. I hated hearing that because I. I feel like I've made fun of people with pink eye over the years, like there was something wrong with them. I've never had it. I just thought it, you know, something that happened to weaker people. And so I got diagnosed with that. And she said, you got to stay home from work for the next two days. And I thought I just left work. It's extremely contagious. Like, really easy to pick up. And I don't think it does you any serious harm other than you got to get antibiotics to get over it. And if your eye turns pink, which mine hasn't, thank God, it's somewhat off putting, you know, And I don't know if you have photos, schedules, or scheduled or a date or anything like that, but you look a, you know, like a goblin, a monster. The sort of thing that children run from screaming if you get the pink eye. But. So your eyes are okay, Michael?
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Yeah, so far, so good.
Jack Armstrong
Okay. I wonder if I touch my face too much. Why do I get all these diseases? I'm an otherwise pretty healthy guy, exercise all the time. I exercise every day and. But I catch everything that comes within a mile of me. And I wonder if I'm just constantly sticking my fingers in my mouth or my eyeballs and I don't notice it.
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Hanson says his eyes are swollen shut. Should he go to the doctor?
Jack Armstrong
I. I should. I need to get. Maybe if I get a GoPro mounted that faces me and I could, like, watch myself through the day in fast motion and see what I do, how often I jam my pans in my mouth and then in my eyes or something. And maybe it's a nervous tick. I don't notice I'm constantly rubbing my eyeballs with my fingers. But there's got to be a reason I catch all these colds and pink eye and all the different things that come along. I hope I didn't give it to Hanson because, you know, you don't want to give it to your kids. Just take all the fun out of their day, too. But I'm on these antibiotic drops, and then I should be fit as a fiddle. I'm going to Vegas. I think with my son here in a couple of days, taking a disease of the Las Vegas is no big deal. There's all kinds of diseases in Las Vegas. The clap might, you know, counteract to the conjunctivitis and then you get the gonorrhea that knocks out the flu you got and they just all they battle each other in your immune system. It's no big deal.
Joe Getty
Go.

How about that? The chase ended with a team being cited for nine violations and is missing. Motorcycle seized by police, which the department says is a pretty expensive way to learn the rules of the road.
Jack Armstrong
Yeah, who's learning the rules, the kid or the parents? Though I worry about that. I know someone who looks like me, roughly my age, with two kids my age. My Kids age. Whose kids ride around on their tulare on a regular basis? Cause everybody in the town does. But at what point do. Does somebody get pulled over and get a bunch of tickets and I'm the one who pays them?
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
I don't know.
Jack Armstrong
I think that's all coming to an end. Are there gonna be like 8,000 used talarias and Surrons? Those are the fancy electric dirt bikes that a lot of kids ride are. They're gonna be just thousands and thousands of those for sale used. Because there's no point in owning one anymore because there's no place to ride it and they're not cheap. I bought mine used new. They're like five grand or something, maybe more. They're expensive. I wonder if there's just going to be tons of them available. I bought, we bought ours from a kid who lived in a town where the cops started cracking down on him so he couldn't ride it anymore. So I bought it used. I made one of the worst mistakes of my life. I bought half calf coffee. It's just not doing it for me. I thought maybe I, I wouldn't get so over caffeinated if I bought the half calf, but I got the half calf beans and it's just not giving me the jag I need to get through the day. We're in the waning moments of the show and we're off tomorrow and I'm off all next week. So basically I'm in the last 20 minutes before you go on vacation for a week. And I don't know what it is like for you at your work when you're in the last 20 minutes. Like you know, it's 4:40 on a Friday and you're about to go on a week vacation. But I don't know how productive you feel or, or how, how well your concentration is at that point for working. But I've got one, I've got one foot and half another foot out the door and the re. And. And my legs and my buttocks, only my core and my head are still in work and that's sliding slowly out the door. So some, some Supreme Court rulings came down that I don't completely understand. But I can hit you with the headlines. And they all seem like they're good news for Trump, if not conservatives, because Trump and conservative doesn't go together in my mind. But the justices sided with Trump administration in border dispute over asylum seekers Supreme Court allows Trump administration to end removal protections for Syrian and Haitian Nationals I don't actually know if Those are two different cases or if that's the same case. And then we mentioned earlier the Supreme Court strikes the Hawaiian gun restriction, which is, was also a California, was a California and Hawaii thing where an earlier court had said that. So the Supreme Court ruled that if you've got a concealed weapon permit, you can carry a gun in public places. Then California and Hawaii said no, no, no, not grocery stores, not this place, not that place, not this place, that. So all kinds of different places that you couldn't carry guns. And now the Supreme Court has stepped in and said yes you can, but with the, with the caveat that there's still such a thing as property rights. And if I own a restaurant and I decide that I don't want people to carry guns in the restaurant, I can do that. But if I don't. So it's an opt out rather than an opt in thing. That's, that's the difference. It used to be. Automatic that you couldn't carry the gun into the place. Now it's only if the owners say you can't. And I don't know how most owners are going to come down. If I own a grocery store, I don't care if a law abiding has a clean record. Jumped through all the hoops you have to jump through. And it's a lot of hoops. Jump through all the hoops you have to go to to get a concealed weapons permit. I don't care if that person's in the store. And as always goes with gun laws, you only stop the law abiding people. You don't stop the criminals. The bad guy wants to carry a gun in there and could possibly do something horrible. They, they don't pay attention to your sign, believe it or not there, but they don't, they don't stop at the door. You know, I was going to commit mass slaughter today and make the news so that everybody read my manifesto, but I guess I won't because there's a sign on the door that says concealed weapons not allowed.
Lingokids Parent
Oh, darn.
Jack Armstrong
Let me take another drink of my half cap. Worthless coffee. Are you taking any time off, Michael? Do you ever take time off?
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
I already had my little break actually a little while ago.
Jack Armstrong
Yeah, you took like two days off.
Joe Getty
Off?
Jack Armstrong
You've been working. How long have you been working here?
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Over 26 years.
Jack Armstrong
So how much vacation time do you get at this point?
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Oh, I get six. At least six weeks a year.
Jack Armstrong
But you take like three days a year.
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Yeah.
Jack Armstrong
So what happens to all your vacation time?
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
I Just I, I save it up. Basically. I, I just kind of use it. No. When I need to and then just save it up.
Jack Armstrong
Well, so far in the 20 some years I've known you, you've never used it.
Joe Getty
It.
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Oh, you see, during the holidays, you know, when you guys are off, that's when I'll go away.
Jack Armstrong
But you don't take six weeks off. I take like a week off.
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Yeah, I like my job.
Jack Armstrong
Well, I'm glad you do like your job. That's, that's very good for, for Joe and I that you like your job, but, and appreciate you working. I don't use all my vacation either. I never have. I think I get, I don't even know how many vacation weeks I get because I've never even come close to using all my vacation. We also have a slightly different job than. Yeah, like if you're a state worker or something like that where, where, you know, there are jobs where no harm is done to you by taking all your vacation. But if you run a restaurant or a radio show or lots of different things, when you close the doors, you're taking a little bit of a risk every single time that your customers decide to find something else, someplace else to eat. For instance, if you close your door and don't quite come back in the same way. So it's a little bit different.
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
That's why I don't take time off. I don't want people finding out how mediocre I am.
Jack Armstrong
I've said this before and I think it hurts some people's feelings, but my personal experience is the sort of person that takes every vacation day and then also their spirit day. Does everybody get that or is that just a California thing where you get a spirit day once a year? Yeah, I could take a day off called a spirit day if I want to. And then there's like these emotional holidays that you can take and then also sick days. People I've known who, who max that out, who take all their vacation days, all their six days, all that usually aren't that successful. I personally have not known really successful people who hold on to their job who take all of those days. That's just my anecdotal evidence. If you can prove me wrong, feel free to text me at whatever our text line is. I don't remember it because I'm almost on vacation, so I've already checked that.
Joe Getty
But
Jack Armstrong
if you're taking, if you're using all your sick days as vacation days, probably hampering yourself in your life, that's What I tell my kids, maybe I'm wrong. Like I said, maybe you can prove me wrong. Let me go through some of the stuff that I still got in the holster here because it's going to be no good when I get back for certain. Oh, the death toll is climbing in Venezuela with that earthquake. I have a feeling that the total number after a week of finding bodies is going to be pretty high. Thank God. I think the regulations go way too far in the United States, certainly in California. But thank God for modern building standards and some of the regulations we have around that that if you do have an earthquake the building doesn't just collapse on you. And we mentioned earlier Apple has raised the price of a lot of different stuff.
Joe Getty
A lot.
Jack Armstrong
I mean a lot. Like a MacBook, they jacked up 300 bucks and it was only about a thousand bucks to start with. So that's a lot as a percentage because of the soaring chip costs. Tim Cook said there's no way around it. So I have a feeling all electronics are going to get more expensive. If you've got some sort of electronic thing that you want to buy that has the high dollar chips in it, you might want to buy it today before they increase the price again. Talked about that. Oh never to get to the twenty five thousand dollar electric truck EV truck that they're making an effort of. The idea is that maybe people would buy electric vehicles if they weren't so expensive because they tend to be more than their gas powered alternative. This is a 25000 EV truck that's supposed to be pretty good but they had to strip it down to very very basic to make the price work. And it's got hand crank windows and no radio. I don't care about rolling down my window myself. I don't find it that taxing. No radio and like really, really stripped down quality of components inside. I'd have to sit in one to really decide but it'll be interesting to see if it could possibly jump start the whole electric vehicle thing. Babylon be joke that I really liked I was going to use earlier and forgot to Democrats discover innovative strategy of promising free stuff to stupid people. That is exactly what the candidates won on the other day. Promising free stuff to stupid people. Or let's go with naive people to be charitable even though if you're that naive you're kind of stupid. Speaking of the group that one, Mamdani's group the other day, their rhetoric about Israel and Jews is so over the top. Noah Rothman wrote this for the national review and I thought it was pretty good. That crowd is a hate group masquerading as a political movement and it would be called out and recognized as such if its preferences were right wing. If it was a right wing politics that based everything around hating a specific group, they would be considered a hate group. But American institutions have turned a blind eye to the threat and there may be no stopping it now as it attempts to take over the Democratic Party. That's going to be something to watch. We've been playing the clip. Van Jones, really smart Democratic strategist on CNN Tuesday night saying the roof is collapsing on the Democratic Party establishment tonight. I think the Democratic Party establishment would be doing themselves a favor is calling these people out as a hate group, but they're not going to. Do you see any of the videos from the earthquake in California closer to home? I don't think there was a single injury, but there are a lot of videos of store shelves rocking and all the bottles of wine tipping over and breaking on the ground and stuff like that. That was with a 5 6, I think it turned out to be. That one in Venezuela was a 7 5, followed a couple of seconds later by a 7 6. Man, that had to be pretty scary there for a while. You'd think the world was coming to an end when that second one hit. Stay with us. Got a few more things to finish up the week with before we go on vacation. We'll finish strong next Armstrong and Gettysburg.

It's got these square wings, and she's like, that doesn't make sense. And so she finds the fastest bird and the fastest fish and sketches out a drawing of, like, what the two would look like as a plane. And that becomes the plane that we know today. First, on that big earthquake in Venezuela. The numbers have changed slightly as they've gotten more accur accurate. It was a 7.2 that hit and then right after that a 7.5, which are big earthquakes. Anyway, I'm looking at this helicopter footage as they fly over Caracas, which is a real big city in Venezuela. It's amazing. It looks like it's been bombed. It looks like you would, you would think it was Iran or Iraq or you know, Kiev or one of those cities that has been bombed this earthquake. It says here that most if not all multi story buildings appear to have suffered severe structural damage. So nearly all buildings more than one story high have suffered severe structural damage. Many have collapsed. Tens of thousands of people, you know, as long as you're not hurt, are dead, no shelter, food or water across northern Venezuela. It's quite the humanitarian disaster. Here's a helicopter footage right here. I'm looking at where it shows they counted 40 buildings that completely collapsed, multi story building like apartment buildings. Well, if that's the case, if, if this one helicopter shot shows 40 like big multi story buildings that collapsed, the death toll on this is going to be many thousands. I've been hearing all morning long it's more than 164. So apparently they came up with 164, you know, dead people. It's gonna be a lot more because it was the middle of the day and all these big buildings had people in them and they completely collapsed. Good God. It could be tens of thousands. I hope it's not. But don't be surprised if you don't hear that at some point over the weekend.
Show Producer/Announcer
Wow.
Jack Armstrong
What else did I want to jam here? In here in the waning moments of the Armstrong and Getty show. Just grab this. Oh, trying to decide whether to do this or not. God. I got some reading options that I'm excited about. Some fiction stuff that I want to finish off, you know, take a week's vacation, get away from it all. But a lot of people I like are really digging the book Regime Change by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, both of the New York Times. And I know some of you didn't dismiss anything from the New York Times out of hand, but they're highly respected by many different quarters journalists and it's the first good accurate according to people. I like book about the Trump administration with lots of people leaking. I think it's a. So Bob Woodward's tool to do this anymore. He used to be really Good at Bob Woodward writing all these political books. He would go to, I'll just use some examples. He'd go to a Marco Rubio and say, I was told you said this in a meeting. And Marco Rubio might say, well, I'm not going to talk about a private meeting. And he's going to say, well, I'm going to print what JD Vance told me if you don't tell me what you want to tell me. And then you feel like you've got to get your side of the story out. You get such good sources that everybody wants to get their side of the story out. I mean, some of the leaks from this book already show that in a meeting of like eight people, it looks like at least six of the people leaked to Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan. So I'll at least read part of that book and let you know any juicy stuff I find from it. Well, that was short. Here's your host for final Thoughts.

Michelangelo (Board Operator)
Okay, this is an idea. Tonight, World cup, okay, Turkey hasn't scored a goal yet. And if they still haven't scored with like five minutes left in the game, we pull our goalie and see if they can score on us with a without us having a goalie.
Jack Armstrong
That would be cool. I actually like that idea.
Michelangelo (Board Operator)
I mean, the game is worth is, you know, pointless. So.
Jack Armstrong
So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We get nothing when we'll probably be ahead anyway. That would be pretty fun. Yeah, the. It's 7:00' clock West Coast Time, 10:00' clock East Coast Time, so I don't know how much viewership there's gonna be. Meaningless though. Turkey's out and we're in to the next round regardless. But we've never gone undefeated in the group round before and that'd be pretty cool for the United States to go three and oh. In the group round. As we head into the metal part of the tournament, my final thought is, I'm excited to go on vacation. I'll be tweeting during it. You should follow us on Twitter. Any fun things that I do. Hoping to get a lot of stuff accomplished, actually. Armstrong and Getty wrapping up another grueling four hour work day. So many people to thank. Episode: Clueless...or Really Good at Cover the Trail?
Air Date: June 25, 2026
Hosts: Jack Armstrong & Joe Getty
Guest: Mark Larson (San Diego radio legend)
In this episode, Armstrong & Getty take a brisk tour of West Coast issues, zeroing in on homelessness, political intrigue around Gavin Newsom, the spread of socialism in American youth, and cultural attitudes toward patriotism. The hosts use their signature irreverent, snappy banter to unpack these complex issues, welcoming veteran broadcaster Mark Larson for a deep dive into the streets and political backrooms of Southern California.
[03:05 – 08:01]
"I can't think of maybe one or two times out of talking with dozens of people where they said, you know, I couldn't afford my rent and that's why I'm here."
— Mark Larson ([06:47])
[08:01 – 11:16]
"Either Newsom is totally innocent... or he's just really, really good at just covering the trail."
— Mark Larson ([08:53])
"I'd kind of like him to stick around long enough for his record to be, you know, shown to the, the whole country by other Democrats."
— Jack Armstrong ([11:05])
[11:47 – 14:49]
[04:02, 20:55 – 23:39]
[23:39 – 24:01, 28:38 – 32:45]
[28:11 – 32:38, 35:23 – 36:14]
[32:55 – 35:23]
[14:17 – 15:00, 17:58 – 20:21]
[45:18 – End]
"Tonight, World cup, okay, Turkey hasn't scored a goal yet. And if they still haven't scored with like five minutes left in the game, we pull our goalie and see if they can score on us without us having a goalie."
— Michelangelo (Board Operator) ([47:17])
Mark Larson on Homelessness:
"In the camps, I can't think of maybe one or two times out of talking with dozens of people where they said, you know, I couldn't afford my rent and that's why I'm here." ([06:47])
On Gavin Newsom's Legal Troubles:
"Either Newsom is totally innocent of this stuff and there's nothing funny, which means he's even more clueless than we thought or he's just really, really good at just covering the trail." — Mark Larson ([08:53])
On Socialism's Appeal to Youth:
"They vote with emotion, not facts. So it's a problem because they're also aided by, you know, the mainstream media..." — Mark Larson ([12:52])
On Patriotism:
"It's ironic that the visitors from foreign countries have a better patriotic US 250 spirit than many Americans do." — Mark Larson ([14:49])
On Gun Laws:
"As always goes with gun laws, you only stop the law abiding people. You don't stop the criminals." — Jack Armstrong ([32:20])
Armstrong & Getty blend skepticism toward elite narratives, a wry sense of humor, and anecdotal wisdom from decades observing American politics and culture. The episode weaves between serious inquiries—into West Coast urban crises, political scandals, and the ideological drift of American youth—and easygoing, sometimes irreverent commentary on the idiosyncrasies of daily life.
Listeners are left with a broad, engaging survey of timely headlines, seasoned with both wit and worry about the direction of American society.
