Roku Commercial Voice
Hello iHeart listener, we have a confession to make. Both iHeart and this commercial you're listening to right now would probably sound a heck of a lot better on the new Roku Pro Series tv. It's got side firing speakers that fill your room with sound, Dolby Atmos audio that puts you right in the middle of the entertainment, and the ability to pair seamlessly with your home theater sound systems that already have surround sound and booming bass. If all that sounds too good to be true, it'll sound even better on the new Roku Pro series. Your hearing isn't better, your TV is.

Roku Commercial Voice
One more thing.
Joe
Joe and I disagree on this. I take it further than he does. We. We went to the. We went to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in Cleveland because that's where the 2016 Republican convention was when Trump was nominated. I'm surprised. I never traveled to Cleveland on vacation just to go to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Cause I always wanted to do. I found it extraordinarily underwhelming. Like, if I had gone there on vacation and that had been it, I would have been very disappointed that I spent my money that way.
Claude AI Voice
I found it thoroughly amusing and entertaining in a way that was fine for a couple of hours. And I have intention of ever going back. So I liked it more than you did. But, you know, I grew up a rock guy, so, you know, not that it is anymore.
Joe
It wasn't my not caring about music that was it. I just thought it was just underwhelming all the way around.
Claude AI Voice
But you didn't like seeing Keith Richards pants now small. They were. Joe Strummers. Telecaster. Come on. From the Clash. Come on.
Joe
So we're gonna do the 20, 25 inductees have been named. Joe's gonna hit us with that here in a second. But the. It's opened in 83. First class was nominated in 86. Off the top of your head, name me some of the first class. Should be pretty easy to do. First class of the Rock and Roll.
Claude AI Voice
Chuck Berry. Absolutely. The Stones.
Joe
No Beatles. No Stones.
Claude AI Voice
No Beat. No. What? Because it's got to be no Beatles. Shut up. Who was in the top? Oh, it was like all your pioneering people, right? Yeah. I don't remember. I've seen the list.
Joe
Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, James Brown, Sam Cook, Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis. Yeah, there you go. There's only one person that's been in there three times. Who's that? Got that off the top yet?
Claude AI Voice
Paul McCartney.
Joe
That's a pretty good guess. He is in there twice. All the Beatles we got in there as Beatles and then as solo artists. Ringo got in the hall of Fame.
Claude AI Voice
As a solo artist and Wings didn't make it in. I'm surprised by that.
Joe
I'm surprised by that.
Claude AI Voice
Is it Eric Clapton?
Joe
Eric Clapton is in three times and that's about it. And that's about how exciting the Rock and Roll hall of Fame is. This little conversation you just heard, that's about as exciting as the whole thing.
Claude AI Voice
One day the city fathers and mothers of Cleveland, Ohio, said to themselves, we need more tourism. What are we known for? Crappiness. Somebody suggested, no, that's no good.
Joe
We can't have a crap hall of Fame.
Claude AI Voice
The fact that Alan Freed, an old timey DJ who arguably conceivably may have popularized the term rock and roll worked in this city. All right, how about a Rock and Roll hall of Fame? And hence a dream was born. It's a, it's a pop music tourism center.
Joe
Although it's harmless, there have been several of the Rock and Roll hall of Fame concerts where they get a bunch of the inductees there that have been freaking awesome. If you've never seen them, they're on YouTube. I mean, just awesome.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah, yeah. There's also a lot to hate about those ceremonies. There are a lot of complaints. If you hear about people no showing, it's because they're like they're completely using us to sell tickets to their hall of Fame. It's abusive, you know, and I'm not going to get into it because I don't care enough to be against it. But every year the inductees or the nominees come out. Oh, this is the inductees actually for the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Yes.
Joe
Have you ever seen the one where John Mayer inducted either Stevie Ray Vaughan or Albert King is one of your blues legends. Anyway, he does it with his guitar and explains the different kinds of blues through the years and everything. It's very, very cool.
Claude AI Voice
I would be into that. Yeah. Some of the induction speeches are a lot of fun. I mean, if you're a music freak, hearing one of your heroes pay tribute to another one of your heroes and explain why they were such an influence, that's fun. I'm not anti. It's just, it's not important on any level. If you want to go see Keith Moon's destroyed drum kit, go there. It's kind of fun.
Joe
Have you been Katie?
Katie
I have not. And you guys are not selling it?
Joe
No, we are not selling it.
Claude AI Voice
Well, now I, I, I'm glad I went. It was a fun afternoon. I took your bunch of pictures.
Joe
Would you go to Cleveland just for that? Or you're saying if you're in Cleveland.
Claude AI Voice
Yes, the second one.
Joe
Okay.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah. If you're in Cleveland, make it a stop. It's fun. Depending on what sort of music you're into. But again it's, you know, like if.
Joe
You end up going to see the Browns play the 49ers for some reason or something and you know, you got an afternoon to kill. Go see Elton John's glasses, Joe.
Katie
It's fun. I meant for me boots.
Claude AI Voice
It's fine. It's just the, it reminds me, Jack, of what we were talking about during the radio show. These. What do you call them, faux events or pseudo events? Pseudo events. It. It's an event created purely to talk about the event, but to make the talking about the event at all compelling, those talking about it have to pretend that it matters.
Joe
I feel like I've to Hard Rock Cafes though. There were like 30% there. I mean the, the restaurant with average burgers shouldn't be a third as good.
Claude AI Voice
As the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, right?
Joe
Like the really good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. New York.
Claude AI Voice
I've not been to the LA one. I'll bet the LA one's really good too. You got slashes guitar. Look, there's David Bowie's skirt he wore back in his I might be a girl phase.

Anyway, your inductees this year include such rock and roll luminaries as Cindy Lauper, who is fine song crafter with a handful of hits. Outcast. She was outcast.
Joe
Cindy Lauper was a big deal for a couple years. I don't know. Do you get in the hall of fame for that?
Claude AI Voice
She continues to tour and do shows frequented by lesbians. I think it's her Gay for music, for all orientations. It brings us together, doesn't it? But yeah, Outcast, spelled with a K. Controversial. Hey, yeah, yeah. Seriously, it's got to be, what, 20 years since you put out your first record or something. Who cares? Warren Zevon, who I think is fabulous, fabulous songwriter, but. But they left out Mariah Carey, Jack and Oasis, who were among the nominees. Sorry, still don't care.
Joe
Mariah Carey is so much bigger a deal than Cyndi Lauper, though. I mean, in terms of success. Oh, my God.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah, yeah. Others inducted included Bad Company, the seminal British hard rock band.
Joe
I've been that.
Claude AI Voice
I'm not sure exactly how seminal they were. They put out some nice hits back when rock music was pop music.
Joe
I don't like the word seminal. It's got semen in it.
Katie
Oh, boy.
Claude AI Voice
We know. You didn't need to tell us, Chuck Bear. Chubby Checker. I'm sorry. Chubby Checker just got inducted. So getting back to Denizen.
Joe
So getting back to, like, the Little Richard type people in Fats Domino. So Chubby Checker didn't get it in with those group or soon thereafter?
Claude AI Voice
Apparently not.
Joe
Come on, baby, let's do the twist.
Claude AI Voice
Little Richard sounds like. Well, you know.
Katie
Okay, both of you.
Claude AI Voice
Like, like. Yes. Michael. Yes. British singer Joe Cocker remembered for his raw and powerful voice.
Joe
I remember I just met her.
Katie
Sensing a theme.
Joe
Yes.
Claude AI Voice
Not really, no. Don't care enough to develop a theme. Katie. Let's see. Soundgarden.
Joe
Okay.
Claude AI Voice
Great. Heavy rock grunge band. That's fine. They have enough fans that will walk in there and look at their display and say, wow, cool.
Katie
No.
Claude AI Voice
Yes. Yeah.
Joe
It's more your era. K. Do you think that makes sense?
Katie
Not really.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah, you got the White Stripes. I don't believe in silent letters.
Katie
Oh, that one makes sense to me.
Joe
See, I didn't. I learned. I just learned this the other day. So they. He. The. Jack Black's got a new. Not Jack Black, Jack White. Jack White has got a new album out and he's. He is ridiculous. I mean, in terms of talent. I like, super got into them. She's. I don't know, like six months ago in a way that I'd never gotten into White Stripes before and listened to some of their deep cuts. I'd never heard he. But he's just insane. I didn't realize, though, his real name is maybe you know it, but Jack. Whatever it is, he took her name.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah.
Joe
They got married.
Katie
Right.
Joe
Oh, good for you. Fantastic. Aren't you in love?
Claude AI Voice
Yeah. See, one of the things I despise about pop music is the term recording artist. Because a lot of these people are underwear models who can warble a little. And then they run your voice through Auto Tune in the studio and you could. You could have anybody sing it or. Or a dog or. It doesn't matter. Jack White is an actual artist.
Joe
Oh, yeah.
Claude AI Voice
He's like half nuts. And guitar players know this, but he intentionally plays instruments that are difficult to play to. See how it changes what he plays. See how it affects the music to struggle against a guitar, at least now and again. Which is an odd note. I'm far too lazy for that sort.
Joe
I was listening to something the other day. I don't remember what it was. You wouldn't. You know way more about this than I do. Because I know in the modern world, with Pro Tools and everything like that. Yeah. You could get the four of us in a room and sing something and by the end of the day have perfect harmonies.
Claude AI Voice
Yes.
Joe
With Pro Tools.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah.
Joe
How long has that been around? So when I'm listening to stuff, what was I listening to? Maybe Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young. I don't know. It's something with tremendous harmonies the other day. And I thought that had to be completely real. That had to be just like what it sounded like for them to sing together.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah. My favorite stunning on some of those recordings. Them and like yes, which I'm a big fan of in Boston. And what's fun about those is these days, if you're. Particularly if you're up against budgetary pressures, if you nail the harmonies in the first chorus of a song, and maybe you use auto tune, maybe you don't, but you nail those harmonies, then you fly them around to the other courses is what it's called. You copy and paste the harmonies to the other choruses. It saves time. Oh, it saves money. Which I've actually done that some. It's. But it's again, purely to save time and money. But back in the day, they had to sing every note, every time. It had to be either, you know, nail the harmonies or they're a little bit off, but they're. Every chorus was different. Generally, I know what I'm ways small and significant, which is part of what makes a lot of those old songs really kind of cool.
Joe
Oh, man.
Claude AI Voice
And they keep like teasing your ear. There's something about that third chorus that's compelling you'd never put your finger on. But it's because it's a little different.
Joe
That's interesting because. So the. It's kind of like the way AI created models. They're so perfect. They're like they got nothing. It's just kind of not. Because everything's so perfectly symmetrical. It doesn't like reach you in a way that a real human being does. You're saying the vocals being slightly off, but Henry and I watched Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen movie. And then we'd been listening to a lot of Queen after that. And I was thinking they had to reactually record these vocals and make them sound like this. How the hell did they do that?
Claude AI Voice
No auto tune at all. That's insane. Bohemian Rhapsody at this point is so overplayed. But as A piece of musical production. It can't exist. It's not like a two headed dog, it's like a five headed dog. I mean, it's just. It's so wondrous. You can't even. I can't imagine the process.
Joe
Oh my God.
Claude AI Voice
Boy. Sorry, Katie. I could bore you to death with this stuff.
Katie
But I'm enjoying it.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah, good.
Joe
Oh no. Mariah Carey in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Damn it.
Katie
Jack's broken over that.
Claude AI Voice
No, I think she is in, isn't she? I don't know. I don't care enough to scroll back.
Katie
And look to Jack's point with the AI thing or and also yours, Joe, with Auto Tune. Have you seen these videos that have popped up where you know somebody will get a one, one hit wonder and then you hear them actually sing? Like they try to do a live performance and it's just trash.
Joe
Oh, really?
Zing Singh
Oh, yeah.
Claude AI Voice
Horrific. Yeah, those are fun, aren't they?
Katie
Yeah, those are a blast.
Claude AI Voice
I forgot to mention that Salt and Peppa are in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame now. Both Salt and Peppa for their many contributions to art and push it real good.
Joe
Pretty good condiment.
Claude AI Voice
It's good advice. And back to our really childishly idiotic genitals theme of earlier.
Joe
Every aspect, every time we bring up Rock and Roll hall, hall of Fame, I feel like always ends with kind of a. Ah. Why are we talking about this every time? I don't know, I'm just. Maybe I. Maybe I was sick the day we went or something. I just have a negative attitude toward the whole thing and I like music a lot.
Claude AI Voice
But next podcast, guys, I'll tell you about the Jelly Belly Factory and how disappointed I was when I went on the tour.
Joe
I took my kids to the Jelly Belly Factory many times. I think I enjoyed it equally as well, if not more.
Claude AI Voice
Yeah, slandered the. The good folks at Jelly Belly. Michael, that tour is scintillating.
Joe
It's pretty good.
Claude AI Voice
Children of all ages have you been, Katie?
Katie
I have.
Joe
Have you been when they're making a bad tasting one?
Katie
And that is why I hate Jelly Bellies, because I went on that day.
Joe
Yeah, if you go on a day where it's strawberry or chocolate or something like that, it's fantastic. But we went on the vomit day. Oh no, not kidding. We went on the day they were making vomit and there was nobody there. And they warned us before we went in. I thought, okay, it's no big deal, you know, I drove here and everything like that, but we couldn't take it. We ran through the factory part with our hands over our noses. You just, you, you thought you were going to chunder the whole time. It was gross.
Claude AI Voice
So the whole place just reeked of vomit. Yeah. Oh, nice. And now thinking about it, they put.
Katie
Out the spread at the end where you can try all the different ones. And that was where they broke my trust is I thought I was grabbing a peach and I grabbed a vomit and I have not had a jelly belly since.
Joe
God dang it. We did that as a contest one time for cousin cousin Christmas. Me, my brothers, my mom and dad, everybody and brought all the different flavors. And there was dog food. Nobody. I don't think anybody could choke down vomit. But there's. There's some gross flavors.
Claude AI Voice
Ah, yuck. Well, I guess that's it.

Armstrong & Getty On Demand: Detailed Summary of "If You're Gonna Pay Attention to 1 Stupid Thing This Year...."
Release Date: April 28, 2025
Host/Author: iHeartPodcasts
Episode Title: If You're Gonna Pay Attention to 1 Stupid Thing This Year....
In this episode of "Armstrong & Getty On Demand," hosts Armstrong and Getty delve into a candid and humorous discussion surrounding the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Joined by their conversational partner, Claude AI Voice, they share personal experiences, critiques, and musings on music authenticity and modern production techniques.
The episode opens with Joe expressing his lukewarm feelings about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
"I found it extraordinarily underwhelming. If I had gone there on vacation just to visit, I would have been very disappointed that I spent my money that way."
In contrast, Claude offers a more favorable view, highlighting the entertainment value of the visit.
"I found it thoroughly amusing and entertaining in a way that was fine for a couple of hours. And I have the intention of ever going back."
Katie steps in to balance the discussion, noting that personal experiences can vary.
"I have not. And you guys are not selling it?"
The conversation shifts to the inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Joe expressing skepticism about their significance.
"There have been several of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts where they get a bunch of the inductees there that have been freaking awesome. If you've never seen them, they're on YouTube. I mean, just awesome."
Claude counters by acknowledging both the merits and criticisms of the ceremonies.
"There's a lot to hate about those ceremonies... every year the inductees or the nominees come out. Oh, these are the inductees actually for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."
Notably, they discuss the induction of influential artists and the absence of certain legends.
Joe [04:29]:
"There's only one person that's been in there three times. Who's that? Got that off the top yet?"
Claude AI Voice [04:42]:
"Paul McCartney."
However, Joe clarifies the extent of his induction count.
"That's a pretty good guess. He is in there twice. All the Beatles we got in there as The Beatles and then as solo artists. Ringo got in the hall of Fame."
The hosts touch upon memorable induction performances and speeches, highlighting their importance for music enthusiasts.
"Have you ever seen the one where John Mayer inducted either Stevie Ray Vaughan or Albert King? He does it with his guitar and explains the different kinds of blues through the years and everything. It's very, very cool."
Claude appreciates the nostalgic and educational aspects of these events.
"Some of the induction speeches are a lot of fun. If you're a music freak, hearing one of your heroes pay tribute to another one of your heroes and explain why they were such an influence, that's fun."
A significant portion of the discussion centers on the evolving landscape of music production, particularly the use of technology.
"He intentionally plays instruments that are difficult to play to see how it changes what he plays. See how it affects the music to struggle against a guitar."
Joe contrasts this with the modern ease provided by technology like Pro Tools.
"In the modern world, with Pro Tools and everything like that... you could get the four of us in a room and sing something and by the end of the day have perfect harmonies."
Claude elaborates on the implications of such technologies.
"Back in the day, they had to sing every note, every time. It was either nailing the harmonies or they were a little bit off. But every chorus was different."
This leads to a broader conversation about the perceived authenticity and emotional impact of music.
Joe [16:07]:
"They tease your ear... because it's a little different."
Claude AI Voice [16:07]:
"There's something about that third chorus that's compelling you'd never put your finger on."
Shifting gears, the hosts recount their experiences visiting the Jelly Belly Factory, leading to humorous anecdotes about flavor mishaps.
Joe [19:10]:
"We went on the vomit day. It was gross. We ran through the factory part with our hands over our noses. You thought you were going to chunder the whole time."
Katie [20:23]:
"I thought I was grabbing a peach and I grabbed a vomit and I have not had a Jelly Belly since."
Claude adds to the humor with his take on the experience.
"Slandered the good folks at Jelly Belly. Michael, that tour is scintillating."
Concluding the episode, the hosts reflect on the balance between musical authenticity and technological advancement.
Joe [17:12]:
"It's more your era. K. Do you think that makes sense?"
Claude AI Voice [18:05]:
"But I'm enjoying it."
They acknowledge the ever-evolving nature of music and the industry's adaptation to new technologies, leaving listeners to ponder the future of musical expression.
This episode of "Armstrong & Getty On Demand" offers a blend of personal anecdotes, critical analysis, and light-hearted banter. The hosts provide a multifaceted look at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, modern music production, and their adventures outside the music realm, all while engaging listeners with relatable humor and insightful commentary.
