He's like, I don't know Blake Mo. I go. I go, can you at least. Can you let me know if Sosa was there? He goes, oh, yes. They were here filming. I was like, okay, okay, that's good to backtrack.

Okay, so. And Blake, this is kind of the first time you're going to be hearing it coming from my mouth because I had. I had. We were texting and dming, but we haven't really spoke. So Serena and I Were coming back. Coming back from iheart Jingle Ball. We were in the Delta terminal at lax, and there was rumors that we had heard over the time of being at the Jingle Ball that they were about to film hometowns for Taylor. Frankie Paul. I just got it on crustable. I'm sitting there. I'm waiting. I'm eating my uncrustable. I'm fidgeting with my headphones. And it's over the. Over the loudspeaker. You hear.

You hear final boarding call for flight. Blah, blah, blah. Paging passengers, insert producer's name on the Bachelor.

Producer who? We know. Well, her. Her name.

Yep. And then a few other names. And then Blake Moines. And I look at Joe and I'm like, did you hear that? Did you just hear what I think I just heard?

And I'm like, I did. I. I did hear that. Like, I did hear. Did she just say Blake Moines? Five minutes later, they do it again. Producer's name. Blake Moines. So now I'm like, this crazy motherfucker went back on the Bachelorette. I can't believe he's back on the Bachelorette. So I instantly FaceTime you. You' not answering. Me and Serena, get up. We're over by that gate. We're just waiting. At this point, I'm like, we're catching you in the act world.

It's you and the producer riding to the gate because you're about to miss your flight. And you guys just see Joe and I standing there being like, hi. What the heck is going on? You're a menace. I can't believe you're back on this show. But, yeah, you guys never show up, obviously.

That is wild. Because I've never heard of another Blake Moy. And the coincidence of everything, plus knowing that, yeah, like, I have done a couple of them to go back again as. As. Like, if there's anyone that's going to do it, it's probably that. Yeah. But it wouldn't.

But it's not even that, because if it was anyone's name that I know, like, you don't. Your name's not. Your name's not Blake Johnson. Because if it was Blake Johnson, I would say there's definitely another Blake Johnson or Mike Johnson. But if Blake Moines is a particular name, you don't hear it too often. You're the only Blake Moines I know, so I don't even know how to make sense of this.

Unless you're trying to convince yourself still that I was there somehow.

Well, okay, but. But why are they called. What the is you Who? There's another Blake Moy with a bachelor producer on the same flight flying to Taylor, Frankie Paul's season. I. I just. It's just. No, listen, we like the speculation, right? And, like, the thing is, is, like, you know, I stuck onto Katie's, and so, you know, I'll leave it up to the imaginations. You're just gonna have to tune in and see, you know? But listen, I'm all over the world, so it's easy for me to jump in there quick, you know, try to make a mark and then dip. It's not that. It's not that crazy. And you'll just have to watch.

And Joe and I are so crazy. We're doing the math of, like, okay, if he got sent home at the rose ceremony after hometowns, he could have gotten on a flight last night, and he could be in Costa Rica by this morning. You posted your Costa Rican footage. I go, that is old footage. He's resurfacing. This guy's trying to be slick. And it's so obvious. Like, I would have bet, like. Like, me and Zach were going back and forth. I would have bet him a lot.

So then we're sitting there Sunday, and Zach's over. We're sitting here. We're watching football. I'm like, I'm telling you, he's there. He's like, he's not there. Like, I talked to him. He's not there. I'm like, he's there. He's lying to you. So I call. I find out where you are in Costa Rica, and I call the place. I thought it was a hotel, but it was like, it was a rescue center. And I was like, yeah, connect us to Blake's room. He's like, sir, I don't know what you think this is, but I did get the information that. That Sosa was there.

He goes, I'm actually looking for so side. They're like, oh, so say, yeah, they're here.

Yeah.

So Sosa for everyone. Also, Sosa is Blake's wildlife company, right? Do you want to talk about that Sosa at all.

Because basically talked for the first 10 minutes of this interview. But we wanted to update you on the journey you have set to solve.

[Joe]

Besides going back on Taylor Frankie Paul season of the Bachelorette. What have you been up to, Blake?

[Blake Moines]

Like, so.

[Joe]

Yeah.

[Blake Moines]

So, I mean, listen, as much as it would be in a really interesting throw into that, that season, I'm not. I'm not on Taylor Frankie Paul season. I am currently in Costa Rica. And here you can see, actually, there's just a sloth that we. We found just. Just out here up in this tree here at Airbnb, and we're out here with conservation organizations doing some work. Good job. So how long have you been. I'm out there. I got here on the third.

[Joe]

Okay, what.

[Serena]

And so what were you doing before you went there?

[Blake Moines]

Well, I. I'm. I'm through a lot of airports. Right. So those layovers, I was a bunch of different places right now.

[Serena]

Okay. Do you foresee yourself being the father of three Mormon children anytime soon?

[Blake Moines]

Listen, like, I don't. I don't say never, ever. Unlikely. Very unlikely. And that's what I'll leave you with. But, you know, if we. Yeah, leave it at that.

[Joe]

So when you are. So you're. So explain to us a little bit about what your company Sosa, is. And, like, you're in Costa Rica now. Are you spending, like, Are you having, like, days off or you go, like, hang out on the beach? Or are you just working 24 7? What. What does it look like?

[Blake Moines]

Yeah, I mean, most. Most of the times it's 24 7. This is a bit of a down day because we just got out of an area where we had no WI fi for three days, and that's when I got your text of, like, salt. Like, salt. Like, all this stuff. I'm like, when there's multiple people in, you know, in this. In this world messaging me that I'm freaking out, thinking, like, am I. What's happening in Salt Lake? Why is everyone asking me where I'm.

[Joe]

Salt Lake.

[Blake Moines]

What's happening in Salt Lake? No, we just got out of an area. No WI fi, no cell service for three days. Sosa Save Our Pieces alliance is my wildlife conservation organization. It's a company. It's a for profit. We work with multiple nonprofits in the space all over the. And that's why I'm traveling nonstop and could have passively passed through wherever you guys were at the airport, but, yeah, out Here just doing work with different nonprofits. We're actually setting up an experience here and helping leverage some of the initiatives that are happening with our nonprofit partners. So we're media storytelling, doing some vetting to make sure that we are aligning with the right, you know, reputable organizations that are doing solid, good work.

[Joe]

What animals are, are out there in Costa Rica? Like, I feel like you always go like, and I'm ignorant when it comes to what you do, but like, like you're like, oh, what, maybe we'll go see penguins. Or like, is there like a certain like animal that you are trying to conserve right now?

[Blake Moines]

No, that's, that's well put. That's the way you would put it. Yeah.

Yeah, it's good. These are, these are two way streets. You're going to learn a lot. And the more that we have these ch show, you'll be an expert by the end of it. But down here it's a, it's very diverse. So you could have anything. We went on, on a night hike and we like walked on. Fer de lance is one of the most venomous snakes, all different types of amphibians.

[Joe]

Wait, what kind of snake? What is it called?

[Blake Moines]

A verdilance.

[Joe]

So it's van. So if you get, if, if you get bit by that snake, what's survival chance?

[Blake Moines]

If you're not getting treatment, you're, you're in, in a heap of trouble for sure. Like if, and especially in the areas that we're at, if you're not getting medical attention, you're in trouble. And we're walking down the trail in the night, we've got our headlamps on and flashlights and this juvenile essentially was blended right into the trail. You would have not known it's there. And if I was leading, I probably would have stepped on it and been in, in a lot of trouble. And then we slowed down for the rest of the hike because we ran into another one that was like a foot and a half long.

[Serena]

Oh my God. You didn't have to the first one go like, let's circle back, let's get out of here.

[Blake Moines]

In this specific area where we were in, do the whole, the altitude in this like wetland, marshy, like mountainous range, essentially. They're all over the place. You can't, you can avoid them, but you just have to have your eyes peeled.

[Serena]

Especially you know they're there, you know there's going to be, you're going to encounter them. It's just how to do it safely.

[Blake Moines]

Yeah. And I just didn't realize it was going to be just the extent in which we, we did. But yeah, I mean, there's, there's all. Sloth is a huge thing here, right? You think about Costa Rica, you think about sloth. So we have a, an alliance partner down here, Sloth Conservation foundation, which you do a lot of work with, and we visit them today. But you know, we just got out of a place called Pacwa Reserve, which is essentially this, along this wildlife corridor. You can imagine that farms are really taking over these, these areas and as we encroach on wild habitat. How do you know jags get around? Jaguars? How do all these animals get through these places and what their massive home range is? So jaguars, sea turtles, sloths, anything you could think of in Costa Rica, it's, it's, yeah, we work with anything and everything. Whoever needs help and whatever initiative is, you know, needs support, basically.

Because you know, like let's say you did get like bit. Are you done? Is is life over?

Well it's then it becomes a then the clock starts, right? So depending on the snake and all have you're gonna have a different reaction based on the type of snake and the type of venom that they have. So and some are more potent than others and so it's just a matter of o what in our first aid kit do we have? We have snake bite, you know, things. But it's only going to buy you time. It's not going to solve the issue. So kind of okay, it's like having something you have a kit that's going to help with whatever the bite is, but it's not going to cure. It's not an anti venom that you can get, you know, at a local medical center. So it's a matter of what's the evacuation look like, what's the time going to take, you know, how can we slow down this, the spread. Most, most importantly, it's like, okay, make sure that we're wearing the right equipment so that if a snake does bite, it's preventable. It's preventable. But we weren't actually that night. But it is what it is.

Do you like, do you like before going on this trail or wherever you go are, do you have a, like an emergency? Like, like do you know, hey, we are 35 minutes from this point from the nearest hospital and you know, as we get, you know, as we get an hour into the trail, that means we're an hour, 35 minutes. Like do you know all those things? Do you have like points?

Yeah. And like this is in a scenario where or one. This was like a private thing. So we went out with a leading researcher, scientist in this space in amphibian specifically. So he's lived for 25 years in this massive 50 hectare property. So we're with somebody that can get us to help like super, super quick. Not only from a phone call to have service and all our phones even have service in these scenarios. So we have like emergency devices like Garmin and Spot and things for more out there scenarios like in Alaska, you know, we're with grizzlies and things like those are more scary to me because yeah, you're just completely screwed in that scenario. You're a flight away from help. But yeah, we're, we're always taking, you know, all the precautions and especially when we have trips, we're bringing people out, right, you're taking care of guests. So everything has to be dialed in for rescue plans, evac plans, risk management plans. All those things are in place.

[Serena]

What is SOSA stand for?

[Blake Moines]

So, so say is Save Our Species Alliance. So essentially the alliance can be multiple things. It could be organizations that are out here doing the work. It could be people that are supporting us. It could be professionals, it could be other conservationists. So it's an alliance of people trying to save our species essentially. And that is a broad scope.

[Joe]

And if like, so if Serena and I, if I was like, I want to, we want to experience wildlife like somewhere, somewhere in the world we would go on your website or I don't know how we would do, how Would we go about, like. But do you, do you take people on trips? Essentially? That is part of it, right?

[Blake Moines]

Yeah. So we directly, in most cases, I would say, right at this point, it's like 85% we go directly to the NGO. So we curate specifically with the NGO. So there's what's minimizing nonprofit organization, basically. So any of these in the space, we curate with them directly so that we're minimizing the amount of money that has to go to subcontractors or operators, one, because then we can fund their organizations, their initiatives more so more money funnels to them directly. But then for people coming on, right, People that want to come on our trips are wanting to be more than just a passive tourist. Like, they want to get involved, they want to be involved in a rhino dehorning and like, you know, work with animals and see how this science actually contributes to conservation and meet these experts in the field, some of which are, you know, renowned, that we work with. So that's how we curate our programs. We've got to like, dial it back a little bit. Some of them are too intensive because, Joe, we'd like to have, you know, your demo come out, you know what I mean? And you feel safe, you know, coming out and maybe something a little bit more or just like, yeah, like, like.

[Joe]

I, I am interested and I would like to do it, but I don't ever want to be in a position where, man, if I would have stepped on that snake a little to the left, I'd be a goner. Like, yeah, I want to be in.

[Serena]

The forest at night, let alone with the snakes.

[Joe]

No, I wouldn't mind being there at night. I just, I want to make sure that I am safe. And if I am going to die, like, I want to die. Like I want to. I want to, I want to die in one, like one sweep. Like, I don't want to get bit by a snake and have venom seeping through my body for 45 minutes and go that way.

[Serena]

Like, if I'm going to die, like low risk excursion.

[Joe]

Yeah, yeah.

[Serena]

Or to kill himself.

[Blake Moines]

I mean, the other parts of this, right, is like, for example, doing that, what we did with the snakes, it's like if we're, we're there right now to actually set up and vet and see what does our cost week experience look like for guests. So if we're going to go do this again and bring guests through. Okay, are we going to sweep this whole route first before we even bring people on this? Is this something that is Optional. And you know, not everyone has to go on this part of it. It's not like we're bringing people into, you know, venomous snake areas on the constant. And there's a variation of the type of experiences that we give people and not all of them are intensive. Like Botswana, for example, coming up in April, it's very much luxury heavy with youth education built in. And you're like, you're in helicopters flying into these back private lodges. And it's not as crazy as you're potentially picturing all of our experiences.

[Joe]

And then do you have like a max amount of people that you will take on a trip? Like, is it like. Okay, we have, you know, this is a slot for 15 people once it fills. Done.

[Blake Moines]

Yeah. And they'll vary. So for example, imagine if you're, we're going diving with sharks, for example. One if I'm in the water and I've got 15 people to be careful with, with, you know, multiple sharks coming in and out, depending on visibility, all those things, then I'm panicking the whole time because like it's impossible to, to react or manage people in that scenario. So that's like six people max. It can go to eight when we're in back country in Alaska with grizzlies and you know, camping with like electric bear fences out. Like the more people in these higher risk situations with wildlife, the more risky it gets. So what is that, what is that boundary or that, that cut off, that it's immersive enough, safe enough, you know. And then there's ones like Botswana or Maldives that we're, we're running that are 12, 13 highs. 15. So it, it really depends.

[Serena]

Do you have a trip coming up that you're excited about?

[Blake Moines]

Yeah, there's, I mean, there's so many new ones coming up. I mean in terms of what we're offering, the brand new one coming out is Maldives and that sold out pretty quickly. The nice thing is we built a community. So our, what we called Wild ones. Wild Ones is our community of people who have been on multiple trips at this point. Some of them have been on five. So typically one person comes on one, they're coming on many because they're finding like minded people who like this type of adventure and travel. And so Maldives will be an interesting one. We're going down and doing shark science and diving and snorkeling and all that kind of thing. But it's again, it's luxury. We're island hopping around the other trips that we're setting up potentially being here. Costa Rica, the Amazon, Australia, Galapagos. What else? We're we're going to form one in Canada working on that. So yeah, there's a bunch coming up. But then there's also little different projects with Orca, maybe Tiger, whereas more hands on projects not with guests, but specifically just the society.

Like, have you thought about, like, dating someone serious with. With having this company now? Because it does seem like, like the more I. The. The longer I've known you, it seems like you are, like, it seems like you're getting busier every year, which busy in your case means you're. You're really just. You're gone. Like, you're off the grid. So what? I guess. What does dating look like?

I think that's it. That is the most challenging, I think. I mean, I. This is. This is the most challenging piece for me because I have everything else, like, go, like I'm very happy, right? I'm living a very purposeful life. Like, it's exciting, you know, the team now. So Sosa's at 7 8. We're bringing on a couple more. And so with that, though, investing so much. I mean, listen, when I came off the, the batch for the first time, like, you know, there's all these different opportunities and like, brand deals and all those things. It's not the same anymore as it once was, as we all know, right? But all that money, anything that came from that, all of my posting, everything I did socially was about wildlife and, you know, promoting these initiatives and, like, trying to garner funding and like, bringing awareness to these things. So I have dumped so much from five years ago into now. But even more so, I mean, I've listened, I've sold my house, put all. Anything I made in my house and this. I pulled investments and put it into it. So, you know, when you invest that much into something that you also love so much, it seems to always take priority, but only more so in the last six months where, like, the time is now. Like, we've brought all these new hires and if you're going to make it happen, like, your energy needs to go into that. But I do suffer and struggle because I have no social life when it comes to. To. To meeting people. I don't meet people in Costa Rica in the jungle when we're sweating buckets and disgusting. And your mind's not even in that. You know, when you have so much going on, you have to execute on so many things. So when I'm home, like, yeah, I might meet somebody for a date, but I think the struggle is this is even as incredible as they can be where I walk away from a date and be like, great girl and like, it's such a disservice to. I don't want to cut myself off because I'm also. It's unhealthy to like, completely close the door and like.

[Joe]

But you are in a way, in a way, you. You in. It's not like this is an uncommon scenario.

[Blake Moines]

You're.

[Joe]

You're someone who's essentially married to your work for now. Like, you're. You're like, you're what you're doing. Your passion is your job. You have everything riding in it. So it's going to come first you. No matter how great the date is. I mean, right.

[Blake Moines]

Definitely. The thing is, I do. So we've came to this pinnacle, essentially. My brother, thankfully works for Porter as a pilot, has left his day job within. He was doing a lot of the actual training. So working in the office, the times that he wasn't flying, so you can only, you know, fly certain amount of hours per week. Essentially. He's now coming on board. He's taking his masters in business. We align on everything. So he's going to be able to take my seat essentially to, like, help free up a lot of my time because I can't continue at this pace, number one, for like, my own social, you know, relationship healthy with friends, family, let alone, you know, relationship romantically and then just burnout. Like, it's. As much as it looks glamorous to do this consistently, like, there's times where I came out of, I was in Australia, Thailand, Kenya, on the border of Somalia, back to Zambia, back to Kenya, South Africa within, you know, a two month period. I didn't touch home. And it's like you just burn out. I was right. I was like, I want to go home. And who says that when they're in Kenya, right? So we have. Things have to change. Things have to change here. But I do see, you know, some light at the end of the tunnel here. Finally, with things rounding out and these new hires settling in and my brother coming on where I can start to like, live a little bit. And you know, there is another opportunity. And Joe, I know I mentioned to you where there was two different opportunities that presented me for other networks and things. And last minute I pulled out. I was like, I can't go and do this. I'm not ready for this. And if, if I'm not going to be fully present. And no, I can't give energy. If I meet someone who's absolutely incredible and they see me as lack of effort, you know, lack of energy and time to something I want to give but can't and they see like, this guy doesn't give a. He's just one of these, another one of these guys. It's like, it's not that I'm like doing it out of anything other than just really trying to make, you know, this dream really work. And I don't want to. It's almost like I don't want to meet someone that I really like in this period when I can't give them. I don't want them to see me in a light that is not me. Normally when things settle and I have the time and energy to give somebody that they deserve, especially someone that I really like.

[Joe]

What is incredible to you? Like, do you, do you think you need to find a partner who is, who is as ambitious as you are? Like, is that, is that a deal breaker for you? Do you need someone who is also in love or at least knows their passion? Because I do. You know, there is a lot of people, there are a lot of people out there that haven't found that. There are a lot of people out there that are just like chilling and happy with what they do, but like, it's not their passion. They don't really care that much about it.

[Blake Moines]

I think there's two different ways with this. I think one, yeah, fantastic. They're ambitious and have all their things going on. Right. I understand the importance of feeling supported. Right. Like, and if I don't have someone that understands and supports, then I'm. It's always going to feel like I got to choose, and I don't want to ever have that feeling. So one, Having someone that has something that they're passionate about or ambitious or drive would be great. Because one, it's like, you know, just the talk and alignment across, you know, both of our passions or projects where we're working on, you know, it's supportive and. And having that. That layer support is huge. Now. Flip side, most people don't have that. Totally fine. And I never really did until six years ago. And I realized this is what I wanted to do. And if it's more of sedentary anyways, I know which word we're looking for.

[Joe]

Jesus. Ambitious guys. Idiots. We can't even pronounce a word.

[Blake Moines]

Yeah, but you know which one. You know what?

[Joe]

Yes, I know the word here. I know the word.

[Blake Moines]

Yeah. That is also seems so great to want to come home too, right. Where I can check out and come back to that and like, settle into that. But I think I need to be in a better place to be able to check out and be more present when I'm with that person. And we can just settle into what life will be and what family would be and like, going to the gym and going to get a smoothie or whatever those things are. But if my mind is always another place because of all these crazy things happening, then that won't necessarily work and it won't be great for her. And then the other thing is just at least understanding. I don't like support and understanding as thinking. And I think you can see that, like when I, especially when I date and things like when I speak about wildlife, I get really riled up and I can get, you know, passionate about things. And so they can see that. And so, yeah, they're understanding of everything and supportive. I don't think it really matters what lane that that potential woman is in.

[Serena]

Yeah, I feel like you need someone who's either totally cool with you being gone for work a lot and has either, like, got their own thing going or is like, you do you. I'm doing me at home. See you when you get back. Or is going to immerse themselves in your work because it's a shared passion.

[Blake Moines]

Yeah, the other, the other, like, thing that, like. And this is, this is the, like, what I. There's so many times where I'm out here doing this. I'm like, you know what? It could be this really insane moment, and I'm like, yeah, it's great that I have, like, a team around me that, like, it was like, that was fucking crazy or, like, how incredible was that? But, like, to be able to share that with someone that you love or someone that has never done that before, where it's like, you're bringing, like, something to them that, like, is an experience or an emotion or feeling that they would never get otherwise. It's like a gift. Like, there's. There's something to this. Like, if you're trying to think of, like, how can you bring someone the most joy or, like, the best life possible. It's like, there's a lot of moments across my life and all these experiences where I'm like, fuck, it'd be cool to, like, share this with somebody.

I mean, yeah, I mean, listen, I think depending on the scenario, there's so many different factors. Obviously factual. It's a bit of stretch because, like, that's not really as fun. Like, paradise is fun. I think maybe a different concept in sense of, like, I don't. It would be great to not go on something that is, like, find your person. Find your person. Love or romance? Love.

Like, heavy. Heavy in that set. In that sense, maybe a different concept or a blend or something is not as serious in this exact moment where it's more playful. It's not. It's more easygoing. Where I don't feel like that is the. The full premise of, like, you've got. You're here to find love, right? Because I know I won't be able to deliver in that sense. Can I deliver with entertainment some crazy shit? Yeah, Like, I could do that for sure. And I don't shy away from that, but it depends, I think.

[Joe]

Yeah, that makes sense.

[Serena]

We saw that you are going on the cruise, the Bachelor Nation cruise, next November. What can you tell us about that?

[Blake Moines]

Well, for one, I think the reason that I'm looking forward to it most is one I actually don't. Outside of, like, seeing you guys the odd time Zach here and There, like, I don't really get to go and do or involve myself too much in a lot of this space as much as I used to. But I do have a lot of fun when I'm in those environments and, and diving into that. So one, I think it's going to be fun to actually be with all of these, you know, people in this space. That one I haven't met or some that I haven't seen in a long time. But it seems like there's a great list of activities. I know we're working through a bunch more and I gave them a whole long list of some crazy fun things we can be doing and I know they're slowly rolling those out. So there's a little morning chat where I'm going through all my wildlife stories and things and diving into some crazy near death situations and just some behind the scenes things. But yeah, I think it's going to be three days where for the most part I've never had a bad run in with someone who is a fan of the show. And so I think it's going to be super optimistic, fun, light hearted and for me it's a nice to be able to check out and like actually go and do something that is. Doesn't feel like it's a job and on vacation and on a boat that is like luxury versus like a rickety Amazon riverboat.

[Serena]

Yeah, it's not like threatening.
