This is that special corner of the week when we dig into all of the things of interest to believing Christians. So coming up on today's packed show, we've got the lead of the British Tories explaining exactly why she lost her faith in in God. Liz is going to give us the breakdown on that. Then we've got the story about Madonna, right? Is she, is she now the leading Catholic influencer with her lobbying of Pope Leo? Jenny Holland has some on that. Towards the end of the show, folks, the Associated Press has given one of the best articles I've ever read on why President Trump and his administration is delivering for believing Christians. Liz, your again at the end of the show has the analysis on that. But first, Frank Walker, here's one for your folder marked tough break for a swell guy, Father rizika, who for 20 years easily dominated the Canadian Catholic media circuit. And I think he's been defrocked. A couple of years ago, who was even at the high point of his ecclesiastical career, was a Vatican spokesman, got into trouble over accusations of sexual impropriety. And the one that we're going to discuss right now is actually against another priest. Now, there are certain aspects to this that we're going to chew over. I do want to say, having been through a number of legal cases myself, I'm pretty hot on the idea that people are innocent until proven guilty. So I will say that even though I have there's basically nothing in terms of religious Catholic ecclesiology, there is nothing that I and Father Rzeke share no common ground, no common denominator. But I will defend his right to be innocent, considered and treated to be innocent until proven guilty. Frank Walker, tell me then. So for 20 years, Father Ezekiel ran this Catholic television in Canada. I forget its name. I think it's called Salt. Salt in Wound TV or something like that. Tell me about the latest. Exactly. So Salt Wound. Tell me about his present legal difficulties, if you will.

Well, he. He's being accused by a priest that he worked with when the priest was newly ordained and when Canada had the World Youth Day. And he worked with him off and on for six years, they said, and apparently he molested him several times over and over and, you know, promised him promotions. And of course, he denies everything. But a court, a judge has ruled in Canada that this cannot be handled exclusively in the church courts. And because the church courts she feels are inadequate. And in her words, the Parliament is, is sovereign. Canada is sovereign over the Church. So I think it has implications for the long, long history of the relationship between local courts and the jurisdiction of the Church. Either way, there's, there's, there's a lot of money involved because she says they just don't have adequate justice in the courts. They don't have ability to have, you know, big awards. And that's why. And I think that she's probably right that they don't have good justice in the church courts. And I think it's. It's a problem for these. For. It's a problem that the Church doesn't have good justice in cases like this. Now, Father Recica, like you said, long, long time at the head of, like he was at the Vatican spokesman, he was all over the American press. He was very well connected until he had a fall, and it had to do with plagiarism. And first he tried to attack a blogger and threaten him with a lawsuit. So he was being a bully. And ever since then, everything sort of fell apart for his life. You know, he had all sorts of credentials at universities and things, but he was a serial plagiarist. And he's a liar here, too. So it's not like he. It's like he doesn't deserve all this kind of a heat that he's getting.

The plagiarism thing is interesting because if memory serves me correctly, Frank, his defense was, well, you know what? Perhaps I should have studied more attentively what the people who I delegated the preparation of my theses had come up with, which is basically saying, okay, so I didn't, I didn't. I personally didn't plagiarize. But when it came to writing my academic theses, I farmed it out to my underlings. They drafted it all and I just signed my name off on it. And they're the ones who plagiarized, which for one thing sort of undermines his whole academic credentialness on the one. But then he's thrown all of his, he's basically thrown over all of his underlings, his students under the bus stop saying I perfect. I didn't know anything. It's all the people who are helping me. I should have checked their work. Well there's not Father of a Zika. It's not a case that you should have checked what they'd done better. You should have written it yourself. I mean that's the point behind academic theses, doctoral theses, you write those things yourself Anyway. But it's a strange thing that his lawyer had done right to approach what is the secular court of the land in Canada, basically arguing for that case to be dropped and allowing an ecclesiastical, a canon law court to have exclusive jurisdiction over these charges. And I say Frank because it's curious because in England I don't think clerics had their own judicial track since the middle Ages, since the medieval times. It's unusual, I thought for Father Ezekiel's lawyer to come out and try this one on the judge. I think the judges ruling was perfect. I wouldn't even have gone into the explanation as she has done, saying why the canon law court would be deficient. I mean the idea that everyone is equal under the law is I thought, a more dominating principle. No.

And I think in the past cases like, you know, this is in the modern era, so they have all of this sexual harassment. I don't know how somebody gets two men, how a man gets himself in a position for repeated molestation. A grown man and support. But this is the modern times. But in the past, even in ancient times that they would, they would, some cases like this, they would hand over to the local jurisdiction. So it's always a back and forth. And still even today in different countries, they'll have to decide which one's which. But you can't. What kind of penalties can the church, you know, give itself is what would happen. Because today a thing like this affects the entire church because the entire church has to pay the, the, the payout that goes with this. And I, so I, I know maybe not in England, but all over the world, it's, it's a back and forth. And I think in the past they would have to have stronger justice in the church because it's their responsibility not to give scandal and to protect the jurisdiction that they have. They should have some jurisdiction. I mean, and like you said, these battles went back to the Middle Ages. St. Thomas Becket trying to defend the jurisdiction of the church in England. So, you know, it's a complicated thing. And the thing is if the church would actually provide justice, then they would have some credibility here. But I think they. And they can't really fight for it. Still. Father Recica is still giving talks even though he's defrocked. Like you said, he's lost his faculties. But he's still, you know, at recent giving Jesuit retreats and things. And you know, he, this, this, this whole crime was in the context of a World Youth Day because he ran the World Youth Day. And just this week there's a priesthood. Leo just appointed, I mean, a bishop in Poland who's had to resign because of accusations while he was running World Youth Day. So I just do good. What I wonder is do good priests ever get promoted? That's what I look at. That's what makes. Makes me wonder, you know, what kind of a network are we dealing with here where the only people who seem to have an opportunity to move up and have an official position have to deal with this kind of thing like this priesthood with Father Recica.

Frank, can you give me, just correct me if I'm wrong. Did Father Ezekiel, in 2019, was he not invited to speak at a Vatican conference on clerical sex abuse?

Right around that time he was very important in Francis Vatican. They pulled him in and he was a spokesman. You would see him up there all the time. And after the Pennsylvania report, the grand jury report, it was a huge news story for about a year. It affected the entire church. And Cardinal McCarrick was involved. Francis had to have a big event to try to calm it all down. And Father Recica was a big part of that. You know, making pronouncements about how they're going to have a new church and they're going to clean it all up. And you know, it shows you. You can't really believe that after that was when he got the plagiarism. But that event that Francis had everybody the church pull together that ended up in some report that whitewashed the entire thing and blame people like Archbishop Vigano and Pope Benedict for everything. He was a part of it. I remember him interviewing Cardinal Wuerl right before Cardinal Wuerl was tossed out. Yeah, Father Sika was very important.

It is important to note that father Ruzika's or Mr. Ruzika's clerical progression took place. Sort of. Even his advancement in the Catholic Church took place under Benedict and under the last years of JP too as well. This isn't a Bergoglian phenomenon, even if he happened to reach the apogee of his ecclesiastical progress under Bergoglio. You touched on something before, Frank Walker, and I think this is probably the most important thing as far as I'm concerned. What does it tell you about the men? And I'm not going to blame the, the victims here, so let's, let's be specific. I'm not talking about this specific case, but cases in this, in this category. What does it tell you about the men that the Catholic Church is ordaining as priests? And the minimum age for that is going to be 21. And I don't, I doubt very much that this guy was, was as young as 21. He probably had a few years under his belt by the time he was actually ordained. What does it tell you about the men that the Catholic Church is ordaining? That they are unable to stand up for themselves against a somewhat overweight. I met the guy, Father Rizika, somewhat overweight, not a particularly tall guy. A guy that you should pretty easily be able to fend off. What does it say about the men that we are ordaining as priests? And how can we possibly expect them to offer any kind of spiritual leadership out in parishes if they can't protect themselves from, from someone like Father Ruzika? I stress that the guy is innocent until proven by court to be guilty. But in that kind of context. Just give me two minutes about, about your, your analysis on, on the gangs of the Catholic Church is ordaining.

I know priests that have had these kinds of things happen to them and they're in seminary and they left. They left. No man should have to tolerate this kind of thing. I can't imagine the situation where they would. So what they have here are the kind of men that will talk just like we were talking about the other day. You know, it's like you have. The seminarians are abused and then they become abuser priests and they become protector bishops. That's the kind. That's what's happening here. You have two men who are having gay sex and it's become a case because it's against the law in a certain respect because they're both working together. One's a superior and one's junior, you know, but I mean, in the old days it was a crime one way or another. So that's what we have for priests. That's what we have for a church. That's how you get promoted because there are good priests out there. There are many, many men who have left seminary, left seminary before this kind of thing happened or when it happened or when they saw it happening everywhere else. They find that they couldn't isolate themselves enough. They couldn't concentrate on what they're trying to accomplish because never in their lives had they been. Some men are like that and they're just weeded out. Sometimes they're weeded out before they even get anywhere near an abuse case like this. I mean, the culture is incredible.

Liz, your Were you surprised to see the leader of the British Conservative Party, Kemi Badenok, come out and say that she didn't believe in God anymore because of what had happened in Austria some 15 years beforehand? Just the quick lowdown here. This is Josef Fritzel who had been found having repeatedly locked away and raped his own daughter Elizabeth for 24 year period and then she escaped. And apparently this, this incident has stayed in the mind of the, the leader of the British Tories and she came out this week in an interview with this. Tell me a bit more about what she said and break that down versus what that means to you.

Sure. I mean I remember this case, it was a horrific case of this sex offender in Austria who basically imprisoned his daughter, raped her for 20. She had gave birth to seven children as a result of these rapes. He was a sex offender for many years before this. And the story broke because this young woman was able to get free and it really shocked all of Europe. Well, you know, my own experience with many horrific child sex abuse cases in the course of my legal career, I've seen pretty much seen it all. But I, you know, this Kemi Badenak, the leader of the Conservative Party in the UK now says that her faith in God has just been shaken and she rejects God as a result of this Fritzel case, which happened many, many years ago. And you know, while this is a horrific case, you know, frankly I don't think it warrants a lack of trust in God. She describes herself as a Christian apologist, that she thinks that Britain should embrace cultural Christian issues and values. But to me this rings hollow and I'll tell you why. Because when we all know, as Christians, certainly we know the existence of good and evil in the world. And although this young woman, this Elisabeth Fritzel, as she disclosed, prayed to God throughout these 24 years, she was ultimately rescued, but not after this horrendous, nightmarish experience with both her children and herself. It just seems to me that this Kemi should look at really what's happening in Britain and the importance of cultural Christian values and in Britain. And what has happened to this young woman in Austria is quite frankly happening throughout Britain as we now know, the, what they call the grooming gangs, I like to call them the rape gangs. And there have been all sorts of allegations. This has been going back since the 1980s, 90s where roaming gangs of Pakistani men, southeastern Asian men have raped, drugged, abducted young, poor girls in England, subjected them to terrible torture, sexual abuse and hid them from their families. I mean, this is to the tune of, as you know, there have been how many, three or four reports from the government. This is up to. They have said 250,000 girls have been affected by this. I mean, if you are going to be the leader of the Conservative Party and battle this phenomenon, this crisis in what, 50, 60 cities in England, you had better be aware that you're going to need all the resources of God Almighty to fight the most diabolical evil that is facing your country. And so. And so for me, you know, I don't like to judge people's hearts, but for me, it just rings hollow that this distant case, and God knows that we've all read thousands of cases of terrible, abusive children. But to say, I personally now reject God, but I don't reject Christian values, it seems to me, just kind of spats a little bit of political expediency.

It is. It is strange. It is one of these things that we could spend the whole show discussing. This is one story alone. She. She points out. Kemi Badenok points out that her maternal grandfather was a Methodist minister. And she says, I couldn't stop reading this story. And I read her account, that Elizabeth Fritzel's account, and how she prayed every day to be rescued. And I thought I was praying for all sorts of stupid things, and I was getting my prayers answered. I was praying to have good grades, my hair should grow longer. I'd pray for the bus to come on time so I wouldn't miss anything. And then so much, she says, it's like those prayers were answered and not this woman's prayers. There's so much to, To. To analyze on that, because we've all been there. We've, you know, those of us who pray will know the feeling that we get when our prayers are answered. And then we come across a family member or a neighbor or something who's had, like, a far greater calamity. And you think, oh, my God, you know, I've been praying for the. For these. It's not even. I've been praying for these things, and my prayers weren't answered. I've been praying for these petty, trivial things, and my prayers were answered. And not this person. This person. My, My. Liz, you know, you might have a word of advice for people in this situation. My word of advice in terms of spiritual advice would be that line from. Is it Ecclesiastes? Is it, God gives, God takes away. Blessed the Lord gives, the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Right? That I think ought to be the preface of Every prayer we say because it belongs to God, which prayers he wants to grant, which prayers not to. Look, we've got like two minutes left. I want to ask your thoughts on, on this point and this is, I think really interesting. She insisted that while she rejected God, she had not rejected Christianity and remained a cultural Christian, saying she wanted to protect certain things. Because I think the world that we have in the UK is very much built on many Christian values. You just gave an excellent analysis on the challenges that are taking place in the UK right now. Many of these things are taking place outside of the Christian sphere. I don't want to point the finger and make a victim class out of anybody, but just give me two minutes and do you think that it is possible to rebuild the UK in the way that it needs, based on Christian values, without the explicit belief in Jesus Christ?

Well, listen, this is about the mystery of inequity, isn't it? About the complex nature of humanity. To me, all these countries in Europe need to go back to their Christian roots. They're doing it in France, in Italy, certainly Poland has stayed close to its Christian Catholic roots and we've seen it now happening in England. And you know, when you're, when you're battling evil, as I have in child advocacy, there is only one place to turn for help and that's to God Almighty. It can become so overwhelming, so demonic that there is no, this is not a human solution, nor is it a human solution to what's happening in the culture of the uk. You must return to a civilized world based on Christian values. And I think people are having a sense of it all over Europe is that they look around and see nothing but chaos, evil, bizarre trans gender ideology, lgbt, the destruction of the family, chaos in the cities. God is the restoration of peace and order. And so as a result, we need to turn back to God and Jesus Christ and our Christian values.

Welcome back. Well, here in Italy, if you talk about the Madonna, you're certainly not going to be talking about Louise Ciccone. You'll be talking about the Virgin Mary. So therefore, anyone who calls themselves Madonna in the, in the Italian Catholic sense, that is all that is already leaning very heavily towards blasphemy and provocation against Catholic sensibilities for notoriety and media engagement. Jenny Holland, you have, you've been writing about, you've been tracking Madonna over the last few years and you wrote this incredible article, I think just in January 2023, where you say today Madonna looks like a beast from the pits of hell. And I'm a middle aged woman who can't help but see the horror that has come from our wholesale abandonment of traditional female life stages from maiden to crone, and a total debasement of natural female beauty. You know what, I'm going to ask Frank Walker when he posts the links of the articles that we've discussed today on Canon 212 that he also very kindly puts up this substack piece that you did two years ago. It's hard writing, folks. It's, it really does put the finger where it needs to go. And yet here is Madonna with all the provocations and all the crucifixes and all the habits and all and all the rest of it that we've seen since the 80s playing Little Miss Pius, beseeching none other than Pope Leo XIV, whom she calls a man of God, to intervene in Gaza. Jenny, tell us a bit about her intervention because I know you have a warning not just for the war in posse, but for the wider world about the great danger and leaning in public figures, pop stars, as they assume for themselves the mantle of moral authority.

Yes, definitely. I mean, pop stars intervening in geopolitics and giving their opinions on geopolitics is always a very pathetic and cringe thing to see, but this really takes the biscuit. This is an extremely hypocritical move by Madonna when she addresses in an Instagram post the Most Holy Father. This from a woman who has built an absolute fortune on provocations and sacrilege and maybe even blasphemy against the Catholic Church and even her own upbringing, which she has traduced in really, like, shocking ways, even to me as a very secular atheist person who was a big fan of hers growing up. I mean, basically, she is today a geriatric succubus. She is a really pathetic but grotesque figure that I find overtly sinister. Now, of course, the, the innocent children of Gaza absolutely, you know, deserve mercy and deserve food and help and all these things, but for Madonna to try and play pious, as you said to the Pope, is just yet another slap in the face of, to. To Catholics in particular, you know, she. She's done us actually a service. Yes.

Jenny, let me interrupt you just one moment. Tell us, and I always do your pitch, your billing, right, as, as. As an atheist, huge goodwill towards the Catholic Church. You pay the rose, you pray the rosary every day, which 99.9 of Catholics don't do. You pray the rosary every day. You have a lot of goodwill towards the Catholic Church. Tell me on that point that you just mentioned, what will happen, do you think, to the Catholic Church's credibility in the wider world and even regarding Pope Leo XIV's credibility, if he responds to this request from someone who has had nothing but scorn for the Catholic Church over the last 40 years in her public life.

Oh, yeah, I mean, I know you're not a fan of Pope Leo, but this would be so beneath him, it would be yet another insult. And when you say, I'm a fan of the Catholic Church, I'm a fan of the Catholic faith, I'm a supporter of the Catholic faith and the Catholic laity, not so much the Church, but that's beside the point. You know, about 10 years ago, she released a song that was explicit, obscene rendering, playing on the concept of holy water that as far as I could tell, went completely unremarked upon by everyone except for the Singapore, which banned her from performing it because it was so blasphemous. Now the thing that Madonna has done, though for me personally, as someone who grew up as a fan of hers, I was a child in the 1980s, and her provocations of the church in the 1980s were at least done with some pop musical skill, which is no longer the case because the things she produces now are truly just terrible. She's proven all the Christians correct. The conservatives who in the 80s were made to sound uncool because they were objecting to her using their religion to, to shock and to provoke and to sell albums. What she's basically done to me personally was that she showed me that it wasn't just a culture war that was happening, it was also a spiritual war. Because when I describe her as a beast from the pits of hell, that is very much exactly how she looks to me. I am not being hyperbolic. I don't think anyone can look upon her and her performances in the last 10 years and not see anything other than demonic influences, which is insane. Okay? I mean, this is a, this is a woman who used to have a very kind of sophisticated approach to, to pop culture. That is no longer the case. So she showed me that we are in fact experiencing and being having a spiritual war waged against us as regular people going about our business. And you know, the irony that she appeals to the Pope on behalf of Gazans, which of course the children, again, children in any conflict are innocent and should always be spared. Always. But, you know, well, there is an actual spiritual hot war against Christians all over the world, you know, to the point where one expert for the Middle east research group, the think tank called it a silent genocide of Christians that is happening right now in Africa. So if Madonna, instead of insulting Catholics, maybe wants to take a time out and turn her attention to her fellow co religionists, that would be slightly less hypocritical. But really, she's just using the poor unfortunate children of Gaza to pretend and play pious. And it's absolutely disgusting. It's really repellent.

I know something, you, you just alluded to this. I know this is something that you are following about the, the plight of Christians being massacred by the ISIS affiliated militants in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Have any Hollywood actors or pop stars come out calling for an intervention by his most Holy Father Leo XIV honor on These kids in the DRC that you are aware of because I haven't seen anything. I've seen a lot of posturing to do with Gaza, but I haven't seen anything to do with the Christians here in Central Africa.

I've seen a lot of photographs that look very staged coming from Gaza and there's obviously a very sophisticated propaganda war being waged there. That's not to say that children aren't suffering, they absolutely are. But nine children were beheaded in the Congo in July. And no, to answer your question, I have not heard a single, to my knowledge, not a single influential famous person has spoken out about that at all. The war on Christianity. And this goes back to Kemi Bednock as well. What an ill advised thing to say in a nation that is already so demoralized and whose state religion, the Church of England has abdicated all moral authority and become more of an HR department than a religion. To say that she lost her faith over, you know, what is really kind of a one off, unique kind of crime that happened in a different country like you said 15 years ago. Well, you know, there is so much need in England in particular, but throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland I might add, there is so much need for a strong, I would even say militant at this point Christian faith to push back against not just this creeping woke totalitarian government, but also the huge rise in power of the Islamic community which is really massively concerning and stands to really change England and the United Kingdom forever. So again, nobody is standing up for Catholics, nobody is standing up for Christians. Everyone is, you know, the influential tastemakers either think of Christians as a non entity or as a hostile force. And it's really a grave injustice I think to and also very dangerous for our moral fabric of society.

The Associated Press, one of the three big press agencies in the world, has pushed out this article saying why conservative Christians specifically notes evangelicals can look towards this administration that is delivering for them. And this is obviously a press agency. It's not, it's not a PR out for the White House. Lisieux, you've read this article. You've got the analysis. Let's walk through. We've got five minutes left. Walk though. Why is the Associated Press one of the most secular news agencies out there? Why has it pushed out this article now just giving chapter and verse on all the great things that this administration has been doing.

Well, because the policy wins are so extraordinary and so obvious and almost coming on a daily basis. Trump is really bringing back the Christian cultural ethos through laws and policies. And here's a news alert about what we've been talking about today. This is the playbook, the practical legislative and policy fixes that even Britain politicians can impose to reclaim the Christian culture. So a memo to Kemi Badenak. You know, if she wants to embrace Christian culture, this is what Trump has done in only, you know, the first six or seven months. There's been, number one, a crackdown on transgender identity and treatment with an executive order to eliminate federal support for gender affirming care for children. And we've all known noticed that the hospitals that have been, you know, conducting this monstrous, diabolical, in my opinion, procedure have been discontinuing these programs. Next, the IRS declared that any pastor can now endorse political candidates from the pulpit without fear of losing their 501c tax exempt status. I think this is going to go both ways, but let's see how it, how it plays out. Fortunately, the next one I think is so important, the targeting of Planned Parenthood. Trump has signed budget legislation aimed at cutting Medicaid, Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood. He also pardoned the anti abortion activists who had been convicted of blockading abortion clinic entrances. There is a new faith office in the White House headed by Paula White Kane, who's a longtime, very activist evangelical pastor. There's interestingly now a new task force on anti Christian bias that's being chaired by Pam Bondi, the Attorney General with a two year mandate to identify any unlawful anti Christian actions taken by the Biden administration. I would point out, of course, the FBI weaponization of the Catholic Church, Catholic Church, traditional masses. That needs to be really examined closely. There's a Religious Liberty Commission that Trump has signed an executive order. Religion, I think this is fascinating. Religion in the federal workplace, which allows federal employees to promote and talk about their religion with their fellow employees.

It is. It is. Because, you know, if you're in the workplace eight, nine hours a day, you know, one of the things that you end up sharing, I know, certainly I did, in the field of missing children, is you share your faith. Because as you work through these issues, whether your co worker is suffering from some kind of health crisis or problems in their family, that's an opportunity to share the faith. And oftentimes now with this you anti religion ethos that was going on during the Biden administration, people didn't feel comfortable sharing. I think it's incredibly important not only to help people heal, to increase friendship and relationships within the workplace. And of course, the biggest I think Trump impact is on the Supreme Court rulings in June that allowed Maryland parents with religious objections that they could pull their children from public school. Lessons about LGBT storybooks, which had been in my mind really nothing but porn grooming tools that the teachers were using on these children. Parents are now free to pull their kids out of those classes. They can opt out. Another Supreme Court decision upholding Tennessee's ban on gender affirming care for transgender minors. And also that states can block Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid money. This has all been decided by a 6:3 majority reflecting Trump's Supreme Court appointees. And the cultural war I think has had a tremendous boost with Trump really launching wide ranging war against universities, museums, public broadcasting, this massive unfair DEI initiative that just flooded and infected everything, including the Kennedy center and the National Endowment for the Humanities. That has all been slashed by the Trump administration. But this is the playbook, isn't it? This is what England they can all do that.
