How did Juan raise $5,000 in less than a day? He posted a short video on GoFundMe telling his story in 30 seconds.
Juan Naula
30 seconds. Be specific. Be quick and tell. What are you going to be using the funds for? I was nervous to do it because it doesn't feel okay to ask money. But you shouldn't be nervous. Sometimes you just have to do it and see the. We were able to save my son's life thanks to gofundme that we still have my son with us.

Things are going to get weird.
It's your fave villain, Kale, and you're
listening to Barely Famous.
First of all, Elliot, thanks for doing this episode of Barely Famous podcast with me. I was gonna do a solo kind of chaotic moment, but now I get to be chaotic with you. Yeah, when I was coming to New York, I. Everything was up in the air. I had no idea what the I was going to be doing. And last minute I said, elliot, why don't you come with me? And he's like, okay, so it's take your kid to work days. Cuz I'm. We came in last night, we have work today, work tomorrow, and he's just going to kind of come along for the ride.
So I.
You posted a video on Instagram last night. Can we talk about it?
Elliot Maher
Okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
Because I wrote a novel to somebody. I commented back and it was like a novel, like I'm pissed.
Elliot Maher
Oh, cuz they said that.
Kaitlyn Maher
Can I read it?
Elliot Maher
Yeah, go ahead.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay, so you're. You could summarize the video if you want.
Elliot Maher
Okay. So the video was basically about when people come up to me in public or come up to you or come up to us. And I don't know, I just kind of post it because the thing came to my mind when I was at the barber shop a few weeks ago.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah, weeks, like your most recent haircut?
Elliot Maher
Yeah, the most recent one.
Kaitlyn Maher
When?
That was on Monday, I think.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, it was my dad that took me. So when my dad took me to this haircut appointment, he stay in the car, whatever, I'm in the chair and I realized that this girl, you know, or this lady walked in with her kid, whatever, her kid was getting a haircut and I realized she recognize me. Like she kept staring and I could just tell like she didn't have to say anything. And then I like turned to an angle where I could still see her through the mirror, but she took a picture of me. So I was like, of you?
Kaitlyn Maher
Instead of just asking you for a picture at that point, I mean you would have said no, but like, yeah, okay.
Elliot Maher
And so I was just like, okay, I'm gonna make a video about this because like, I just think it's so interesting. I don't know, like I can tell so quickly. And with her I immediately knew like she, the moment that she looked at me, like we made eye contact, I was like, oh, okay, great.
Kaitlyn Maher
Do you think that because you grew up in the public eye and you know that you have that sort of self awareness in public because of us being on reality tv that you would or wouldn't approach one of your like favorite creators or celebrities or any of that? Would you approach them or do you feel like you wouldn't?
Podcast Host - Ad Voice
It's hard.
Elliot Maher
I probably wouldn't. Just so that I can't be called a hypocrite because like I have these boundaries and if I don't, it's. It's two way street. So like if I go up to somebody else and treat them the way I wouldn't want to be treated, like that's like, you know, I mean, like. Yeah, I don't know.
Podcast Host - Ad Voice
I.
Elliot Maher
And that's also something to consider when somebody comes up to me because I understand where they're coming from. Because if I saw Billie Eilish on the street, oh my God, I would
Kaitlyn Maher
freak out, Freak out.
Elliot Maher
I would. And. But I would have to like, like even now I'm thinking about like I wouldn't be. I couldn't go up to them. So for the, for the rest of my life, I'm just going to hope that I don't come across somebody that I love.
Kaitlyn Maher
So this woman he's talking about being in public eye and getting recognized, he's not even saying anything like about being gay or homophobic or anything like that. And this woman comments and says, please go to church and stop being a deviant. You have a demon in you. Just so you know, I lost it. I've never in my entire life put this much into a comment back to a stranger on the Internet. But it just did something that, it just pissed me off. And I said, you, you didn't wake up and decide to be straight. So why would one just decide to be gay? Especially when there are people like you to ridicule their lives at every turn. It's not very holy of you. I urge you to do some self reflecting and ask yourself why who somebody else loves would bother you. What impact does it have on you, your home, your income and your personal life? Further, an adult woman coming onto a child's profile to say, this is actually so disturbing to me and it's clear that the Lord didn't do his job with you. I encourage you to do some research on the Bible and misinterpretations, but that would require some brain cells. I think everyone here can see that Elliot is a better than you are simply based on your comment. I, it is so weird to me just going on that full kind of surrounding the conversation of like coming up to people or, you know, whatever. I think it's one thing to be like, oh, like your, your Internet aunties, you know, love you or like they wave from afar, which they've done and said, you know, I follow all your content. We're so proud of you and I love that.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
But I, I do think that it is very weird for an adult to comment on a child's personal, like on a child's content, whether they're a public figure or not to say anything about their sexuality like that to me is giving predatory. It's giving. It's giving.
Weird.
It's giving. Why are you invested in what a child does?
Elliot Maher
I personally laughed at the comment and reposted it to my story.
Kaitlyn Maher
I saw, but I saw and I'm so thankful that you have the sense of humor that you do because I would have not handled it that gracefully.
Elliot Maher
I think when I first started social media, I would have been mad. I would have been a little Upset. But honestly, like, these people, you don't know them. So, like, why does it have to affect you? You know, Like, I am glad that I see it as humor rather than, you know, letting it affect me.
Kaitlyn Maher
Would you say that you have more you. The hate comments are fewer and far between, or do you think you have a lot of them?
Elliot Maher
I don't think I have a lot of them.
Kaitlyn Maher
I don't think so either.
Elliot Maher
I don't think so because I was
Kaitlyn Maher
just saying to Caitlin that I or somebody, when you read the stuff over and over and over again, it becomes almost subconscious. So, like, you can say until you're blue in the face that it doesn't bother you. But you read so much hate that you're like, okay, that is really in
the back of your mind.
But I feel like for you, I mean, I do monitor your socials and I don't think that you get a whole lot of hate.
Elliot Maher
Oh, no.
Kaitlyn Maher
So I'm thankful for that because, yeah, one comment could stick with you, but if you're not regularly reading it all the time, I definitely think it has less of an impact. For sure. Yeah.
Elliot Maher
There was a specific tick tock video and it was just all hate my video or yours? On my video. Like when I started the new account after the other one got banned. Yeah, there was so much hate on it. And I was just like, okay, like,
Kaitlyn Maher
well, do you know, do you remember what the topic was?
Elliot Maher
It was. So the comments were definitely about me being flamboyant and gay.
Kaitlyn Maher
I don't feel like you're super flamboyant.
Elliot Maher
I don't think so either.
Kaitlyn Maher
Like, I feel like that's a stretch.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, but it was definitely, like, commenting on my, like, mannerisms, my gestures and like, how I talk and things like that. And the video was not related at all. It was like. I think it was one. It was the one where I was talking about how you, like, got a bunch of the boo boos. It was one of those videos. Like, it was something like that. I was like, why are you guys. Like, I was just confused. Like, I'm trying to understand, like the
Kaitlyn Maher
hype around the boo boos.
Elliot Maher
No, I'm not understand. I'm trying to understand why everyone's, like, hating. And it's not even about what I'm talking about, but I'm confused.
Kaitlyn Maher
More people were hating on you that than that one comment about you being flamboyant.
Elliot Maher
No, I'm saying the whole comment section was like that.
Kaitlyn Maher
Why? That doesn't even. I don't understand.
Elliot Maher
I Don't know. I don't know.
Kaitlyn Maher
Are we crazy or are they.
Elliot Maher
I think they are for sure.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Speaking of crazy, our trip to New York was great. Our drive in was amazing. But we went to dinner. As soon as we got to the hotel, we left and we thought we were getting Cuban food. And we get to the restaurant and it's like Cuban Chinese, which I don't think I've ever. No, we went. We ended up going to Japanese.
Elliot Maher
Oh, oh.
Kaitlyn Maher
The restaurant that we. We were so hyped for Cuban food. And then it was Cuban, Japanese, you
Elliot Maher
more than me, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Cuz you had never had it, but
I was excited for you to try.
I love Cuban food. And I was. I never heard. So I was trying to figure out for anyone listening, is it like a combination?
Like, are we.
Is it like a collab that we're doing with Cuban and Chinese food or is it like two separate menus? We didn't end up going in because I was like, I just. My. The way my stomach is set up, it probably wouldn't have handled it well. And so then we ended up going to this cute little Japanese restaurant. And the lady was so sweet and cute.
Elliot Maher
I loved her.
Kaitlyn Maher
She was.
Elliot Maher
I loved her so much.
Kaitlyn Maher
She was giving. Giving us tips on how to eat ramen. I've never had ramen like that, and it was so cool. But I was trying to do the chopsticks and I splattered it all over my white T shirt.
Elliot Maher
So we had to get a tide pod. Tide pen or a tide pen.
Kaitlyn Maher
And then it still didn't come out.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
So I like saw it this morning and I was like, okay, rest in peace to my white tea.
Elliot Maher
I mean, just get another one.
Kaitlyn Maher
Now that you've kind of spent a few different times in New York semi recently, do you still want to live here?
Elliot Maher
Absolutely not.
Kaitlyn Maher
Do you still want to go to nyu?
Elliot Maher
I don't know.
Kaitlyn Maher
You don't know? I know that was. He's not dead set on nyu, but it was in. It was in your top five. It used to be your number one.
Elliot Maher
It used to be Rochester was more.
Kaitlyn Maher
What one is that one called?
Elliot Maher
Rit.
Kaitlyn Maher
Rit. So is that one still on your list?
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
But I don't. I don't know. I don't. I don't like the city. I don't like it here.
Kaitlyn Maher
I think Rochester is like different vibes, though.
Jackie Schimmel
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
I think it's more upstate. Or is it like not in the city area?
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay, so let me tell you about

Kaitlyn Maher
just want you to know that geography has come up a couple times today.
Elliot Maher
I know.
Kaitlyn Maher
And I've been very wrong.
Elliot Maher
Mm. And last night.
Kaitlyn Maher
What do you mean?
Elliot Maher
Last night when we were talking about like Egypt. And we're talking about South America and stuff.
Kaitlyn Maher
No, I thought. I thought. I felt like we got all of those correct.
Elliot Maher
I.
Kaitlyn Maher
Did we Egypt or did you. Is on the continent of Africa. Yeah, it's an African country.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And then. No, I think we were pretty spot on.
Elliot Maher
Oh, we were.
Kaitlyn Maher
But okay. Did you know that there's an ocean in Canada?
Elliot Maher
An ocean in Canada?
Kaitlyn Maher
Like, Canada is like, you can go to the beach in Canada.
Elliot Maher
That makes sense. Yeah. Wait, but it's really cold there, though.
Kaitlyn Maher
I just never thought that. I didn't know Canada has beaches. Like, I've never once in my entire life heard someone say they were going to Canada to go to the beach.
Elliot Maher
Because you don't do that.
Kaitlyn Maher
My point. So why would I know that there was beaches in Canada? But, like, now that I think about it.
Right.
And that's my point is, like, now that we've said it out loud and I'm thinking about it on a map, like, duh. But I wasn't. Like, when I think of Canada, I have never been like, let's go visit the beach again.
Right.
Elliot Maher
I see what you mean. But, like, there's gonna be a beach on the edge of anywhere. But nobody goes to Canada for the beaches because it's so cold.
Kaitlyn Maher
Do people go besides Galveston?
Does anyone go to the beach in Texas besides Galveston? Because I do know about that from my sister. I would like.
Elliot Maher
I think Texas, or wait.
Kaitlyn Maher
Does not have any beaches because it's connected to Mexico.
Elliot Maher
Hold on, Mom, I. I know you're joking.
Kaitlyn Maher
Hold on. Texas.
Elliot Maher
I don't. I don't necessarily think.
Kaitlyn Maher
Because I thought it's, like, the edge of the United States.
Elliot Maher
Hold on. Yeah, but I don't think that people go to Texas for beaches because it's not anywhere near, like, central cities.
Kaitlyn Maher
Nope, there is.
Elliot Maher
Or areas.
Kaitlyn Maher
There are even beaches in Houston, so I'm not that dumb.
Elliot Maher
Where's Houston?
Kaitlyn Maher
I guess the bottom. I'll let you know on when I. Houston's. Hold on. How do I look up?
Elliot Maher
And then.
Kaitlyn Maher
I'm not this stupid. I was on the dean's list in college. Just so you guys know, like, I literally have a certificate. Oh, yeah.
Elliot Maher
You were also smoking weed, so not in college. Oh, in high school.
Kaitlyn Maher
So Galveston is right outside of Houston
and at Corpus Christi. So there's actually a lot of beach in Texas, So I actually wasn't far off. Oh, okay. I mean, these beaches look kind of nice. So, anyway, moving on.
Elliot Maher
I don't think anyone goes to Texas for beaches, though.
Kaitlyn Maher
No.
Elliot Maher
I would guess that I've never heard of that.
Kaitlyn Maher
Same way about Canada.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. Okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
Moving on. My first guest today was an author. We talked about it. I told her that we watched Luckiest Girl Alive last night. And I don't know what order this is going to air, so go listen to Jessica Noel's episode on Barely Famous. We have talked a lot about your interests with film and ASL and all the things. And I know that you want to go to college for asl, but you also do have interest in filmmaking and acting and theater and things like that. And she actually wrote a book and she said that she wrote. She wrote. What is it called? Is it called a screenwrite screenplay? So her. Her book was. Had an adaptation with Mila Kunis that we watched last night. And she wrote that script too. And I had. I don't know any other authors that had the rights to do that. Like, usually when you sell them or you option them off, you're not really part of that process. But she said it was really important to her. And I thought that was kind of cool because. Yeah, you just made your first short film.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
So I thought that was so cool. And you're also doing some other things that you're working on, and I thought that was cool and kind of right up your alley. I wish that you would have came for that one. But hopefully in the future we'll be able to work together. But. So no more nyu, or do you still want to visit nyu?
Elliot Maher
We can visit it, I guess,
Kaitlyn Maher
if you're not like top five. Maybe not.
Elliot Maher
Well, like, but we have to make the vacation out of it. Like, we're gonna tour every school.
Kaitlyn Maher
Let's go everywhere else. We've been to New York.
Elliot Maher
Okay. Okay. So maybe not nyu.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay. But rit. Okay, cool. Okay, deal.
Elliot Maher
I only really have a top two schools right now.
Kaitlyn Maher
UNC Greensboro. Yeah, rit, that's it.
Elliot Maher
I haven't explored others.
Kaitlyn Maher
What about Clemson? Would you ever entertain Clemson?
Elliot Maher
I don't know where that is.
Kaitlyn Maher
Clemson is in South Carolina, but it's like a really, really big school. And I don't think that they have like a tight knit, like, theater program, but I know it's like a really good school. Does that make sense?
Elliot Maher
Okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
But I don't know if there's like a big gay community there, so I just don't know. I worry about that piece of it.
Elliot Maher
I think I would prefer a more low key, like, smaller school, tight knit community.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay.
Elliot Maher
Just because, you know.
Kaitlyn Maher
But with city options. Because I feel like you don't Belong in a small town.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. Okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
Do you know what I mean?
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Like, I think just like, even if it's like a close knit community or like close knit school but in a bigger city, so you have sort of the best of both worlds would be cool.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
You know what I mean?
Elliot Maher
Yeah. That's why Greensboro is perfect too.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yesterday, in real time, we said goodbye to Lincoln for the summer, unfortunately.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
GoFundMe Narrator
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And we went to his moving up ceremony where he gets promoted from intermediate school to high school. And what award did he win?
Elliot Maher
It was for integrity.
Kaitlyn Maher
And you just didn't align with that?
Elliot Maher
No.
Kaitlyn Maher
And Ellie.
Elliot Maher
And I knew he was going to get it too. I had a feeling.
Kaitlyn Maher
But what's so funny is that I thought he was gonna get the compassion one.
Elliot Maher
I would. I hoped, I would hope he would.
Kaitlyn Maher
But what's so funny to me is that before Lincoln got his name got called. And I don't know if Lincoln knew that he was going to get it. I thought he was gonna get the compassion one. And so they talk about the integrity one. And Elliot's on my right and we're watching over the balcony and he looks at me and he's like, if Lincoln gets this, I just don't agree.
And I start laughing and I go,
but he's a different kid at home and at like as a brother.
GoFundMe Narrator
Right.
Kaitlyn Maher
Like, he's a good kid. He's great with his siblings, all of the things. He's also a great like kid at school. But I think because you are his older brother, like, you're like, why would he get that?
Elliot Maher
Yeah. I'm not gonna snitch on him for anything right now.
Kaitlyn Maher
It's because you know more than I do. And it's because you're the older brother. Yeah, but I just thought that was so funny because. And then here goes Creeds, like every minute I have to go pee. I have to go pee. Like, I am never bringing you guys to another ceremony. But I don't actually mean that at all.
Elliot Maher
There was like three bathroom breaks. Like,
Kaitlyn Maher
and I. So the day before that, Lincoln and Lux and Creed went with me to drop off the babies to Elijah for. To. For us to go to Lux and Creed ceremonies. And Lincoln said, I'm not gonna see them again until the end of the summer. And I. It just like completely went over my head and I wasn't thinking about it and I was like, oh. And I had to like hold tears back. So I was like, I need to go get ready. Like, there's ceremonies today, whatever. And I just like, didn't think about it, but how have you been handling not seeing each other for the whole summ. Be the second year that we've done this schedule.
Elliot Maher
I don't know. I think I'm numb to it at this point. I am going to call him, obviously, all the time, check in on him, text him, whatever.
Kaitlyn Maher
One of his best friends got to go to Virginia with him. So I was glad to see that he'll have somebody his age group, too. And then we have London to look forward to at the end of the summer, which I'm just.
Elliot Maher
This is true.
Kaitlyn Maher
I'll take just you and Lincoln. Plans have kind of changed, and so it'll just be Elliot and Lincoln, fortunately, but also unfortunately. And that'll be cool for you guys to, like, bond during that time. I think that'll be cool.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. Yeah. I'm definitely upset about him going, I think. I don't know. I wish I planned more to do with him before we left. I think we did. We did a few things. I mean, we hung out, like, a few times, but, you know, I wish, like, we did more. And, like, I think time moved by so fast. Like, I didn't realize.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
And so, like, I felt like I had so much time. And then here we are.
Kaitlyn Maher
I think the ages that you guys are, because you guys are just about four years apart, you guys are on very different paths right now with him in sports. Like, his. Most of his friends are intertwined with his sports. And then most of your friends are like, drama. Not. They're not drama. I'm talking about drama club.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And so I think typically when you're in high school, it's like, friends, friends, friends, friends, friends. And I completely get that. But I do think that next year with you driving and you guys driving to school together is also going to create, like, a good bonding moment. And then you being able to drive all next school year when he gets home from the summer.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
You guys, he.
If you ever wanted to include him in something with your friends, like, oh, I always do. Mature enough.
Elliot Maher
I always.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah, I know you do. But he's mature enough now to be able to do it without being, like, the annoy. Even though I know sometimes he is,
Elliot Maher
I don't actually see it that way. Like, when he's hanging out with my friends and stuff, like, we love him. He makes it more of a fun time. And your.
Kaitlyn Maher
Your friends are really good to him.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, they love him.
Kaitlyn Maher
So I think they love him. And like, your friend came to his moving on ceremony yesterday, which was so cute. And so I think that that'll also create like a good bonding moment for you guys because you're gonna be a junior. There's only one summer left after that. So knowing that it's possible that that next summer, you know, we don't. Things could change.
Elliot Maher
He.
Kaitlyn Maher
He might decide that he wants to, you know, be with us for me with this for the summer and not his dad for the summer. So I think that having that school year and bonding.
Yeah.
You guys are gonna fight, of course.
Elliot Maher
Oh, yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
But.
But I think it'll be cool for you guys to have that time together, like going to school and things like that.
Elliot Maher
I think it'll be good.
Kaitlyn Maher
But I hope he does as un.
Elliot Maher
Is unideal a word in unideal or in ideal?
Kaitlyn Maher
It doesn't matter.
Elliot Maher
Who cares?
Kaitlyn Maher
I've proven that I have zero brain cells left over the course of the day. So whatever it is, I don't even remember what I was saying. So we can move on no matter
Elliot Maher
how unideal or whatever.
Kaitlyn Maher
Oh, the, the schedule and us living in different states or whatever, like, yeah, we're as close to 50, 50 as possible. And. But I think that just having that before he goes away potentially next summer to his dad's, like, you guys will have that. And I, I really appreciate that is all. I think that's where I was trying to go with this, but I think I repeated it three times.
Podcast Host - Ad Voice
So.
Kaitlyn Maher
Sorry about that.
Elliot Maher
It's all right.
Kaitlyn Maher

Kaitlyn Maher
So yeah, and then after this we'll do I have to do ads before I go and then I have a meeting and then that'll be the work day. But I think our cousin's gonna come see us. She lives in Hoboken and she's gonn us tonight at the hotel.
Elliot Maher
Oh cool.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
Have I met her or him? Him? Her.
Kaitlyn Maher
Elliot. Yes. You've known her your whole life.
Elliot Maher
Wait, say it again.
Kaitlyn Maher
Our cousin is coming to see us at the hotel.
Elliot Maher
Which cousin?
Kaitlyn Maher
Jen. One of the twins.
Elliot Maher
Oh. Oh, okay. Oh okay. Sorry, you didn't say her name.
Kaitlyn Maher
No, I didn't. I just said our cousin was going to come see Us. And then you said, do I know her or him?
Elliot Maher
Oh, okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
I only talk to three people in our family. My bad.
Elliot Maher
I'm sorry.
Kaitlyn Maher
Anyway, so, yeah, that's our work day in New York for Friday. And then Saturday I have. I'm filming all day, and Elliot is going to be in, hanging out.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And that'll be a bonding experience, I feel, for sure.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Also, while you were sleeping this morning, I was diagnosed with celiac disease, so gotta figure that out. I don't know. I only eat processed foods, so I don't know.
Elliot Maher
Like, everything's processed.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah. So I'm not entirely sure how I'm gonna get away from gluten, because it's not just, like, wheat.
Right.
Like, it's. Everything we eat has gluten. So I. I'll probably cry a lot the rest of the year while I figure this out. I've already started chatgpting how to clean, but then it's like, how do I feed a family of nine? And I will have a completely different diet than everybody else in the family. It's already challenging enough, and now I'm gonna throw this in the mix. So I don't know. That's gonna be a whole journey, I think, trying to figure that out. And then Elliot. When I told Elliot this morning before we left, he said, is that genetic? And it 100% is genetic. I mean, there's some environmental factors, but I don't know if, like, now do we get. You test, like, I don't even know how this works. So when I talk to the doctor, I gotta ask a lot of questions.
Elliot Maher
I would rather not know. And keep eating gluten. Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Here's the thing is that I've wanted an answer for so long, several years, I don't want the answer since I started shitting my pants. And I. So everyone on this. The reason why I even got tested for celiac disease was because of my listeners. They were like, you should be tested for celiac. They kept telling me that over the years, and I would just be like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then I never did it. And so then when I did it, I was like. Like, when I got the results, finally, on one hand, I'm happy I got them because if you continue to eat gluten and you just don't change your diet at all, you're. You severely increase your risk of cancers and blood cancers and things like that. And so I was like, well, I almost wish that I. I didn't know so that I could just live in ignorant Bliss. But then on the flip side of it is, like, I do have seven kids to live for. I don't really want to increase my chances, but my.
My.
My levels are so far off the charts for, like, the test that I was like, I'm so scared. And so then I text Becky, and she sends me, like, chat. GPT stuff, and it says, like, don't cut out gluten until your doctor tells you to, because you have to get, like, a biopsy or, like, an endoscopy and things like that. And so if you turn around and cut out gluten before that and your test comes back to normal, it, like, muddies the water on your diagnosis. And so you kind of have to. To keep everything the same. But then it's like knowing that I have it and I have to change it soon, and then I'm about to go on the road. What the am I gonna eat? Do you know what I mean?
Elliot Maher
Yeah. Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Everything has gluten.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And everything that I don't eat doesn't.
Elliot Maher
Right. So that's gonna be hard. So, I don't know.
Kaitlyn Maher
I say all this to say, like, I guess no more dino nuggets.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, but do you really eat those that much?
Kaitlyn Maher
Five times a week.
Elliot Maher
Oh, okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
I know you're at your dad's, but, like.
Elliot Maher
No, no, I eat a lot of.
Kaitlyn Maher
No, I can have potatoes. Potatoes don't have gluten.
Elliot Maher
Oh, nice.
Kaitlyn Maher
Allegedly.
Elliot Maher
Okay, so, well, but pierogies, you eat the packaged ones, the ones that go in the air fryer.
Kaitlyn Maher
You don't have to call me out. You don't have to call me out.
Elliot Maher
You don't have to has gluten. Mom, I'm pretty sure that has gluten.
Kaitlyn Maher
But you know what doesn't have gluten. I'm pretty sure Bloom doesn't have gluten. And I know Ghost doesn't have gluten, so thank Rihanna for that.
Elliot Maher
We're chill.
Kaitlyn Maher
I. It's gonna be a journey, I think.
Elliot Maher
I can't wait to see how this turns out.
Kaitlyn Maher
I just wonder if anyone listening? If you have. If you have celiac disease, do you still eat gluten? Yeah. Like, can I eat a little bit of it or should I not? Also, will I stop my pants now if I go gluten free?
Jackie Schimmel
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
You know what? I think you should stop being gluten just for that. I don't know. I'm sorry.
Kaitlyn Maher
That's fine. How's everything else, though?
Elliot Maher
Great. Lots. Lots of things I'm working on.
Kaitlyn Maher
You know, you Were working on a project in the car.
Elliot Maher
Yes. So I am producing, directing, writing a script for another short film. I made one a few weeks ago.
Kaitlyn Maher
We talked about it on the podcast.
Elliot Maher
Oh, yeah, we did. Yeah, you're right. So made that short film a few weeks ago was like 10 minutes long, quick little improv, like, just made up on the spot. And it was great.
Kaitlyn Maher
It was so. It was so good. I was so impressed.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. And so. And we. All we had was a digital camera. Like, we just made it up on the spot, made up as we went. So, you know, I think it went really well for. For how it was, you know, like, for. For us to wing it. And then it. The way it turned out, like, I think it went amazing.
Kaitlyn Maher
I think my only feedback was just the lighting, which you didn't have any control over because it wasn't planned out. But outside of the lighting situation, I mean, I was. So I kept saying, like. And we talked about it on coffee combo. So if you guys want to go listen to that. It's a couple weeks ago with Elliot and Lincoln. And so he talked about the film, and you can. You can go over there. But I thought. I thought you did a great job. And I could.
I kept asking, like, you edited this.
Like, you did that, but. So you finished the second script for your second short film.
Elliot Maher
Well, first script. Because the first one wasn't script.
Kaitlyn Maher
Oh, right, right, right, right, right.
Elliot Maher
So I wrote a script on the way here. I finished it on the way here. It took me two to three days
Kaitlyn Maher
to write it, which is quick.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, well, I was locked in. I had it all planned out.
Kaitlyn Maher
And also, you've been out of school, so that's fair.
Elliot Maher
Well, I mean, just this week.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah. And you fit. You wrote it this week.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
It's not like you were going to school for eight hours and then coming home and finishing and writing.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, because. Yeah, so. So, yeah, it was pretty. It was a really fun idea. My friend helped me out with it because I was telling her. I was like, you know, oh, well, I was showing her the short film that I made before because I was like, you know, this. This was really fun. She was asking about it too, because, you know, and so I showed it to her and she was like, you know, like, it would be really cool if you made another one. Like, I would do it if you wanted to. And I was like, oh, okay. So we started, like, theorizing and came up with an idea. And so I started writing it, like, the next day. Got it done on the way Here to New York to last night or yesterday.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
It's a horror film. I'm hoping that I can release it, put on YouTube or something. I'm set to film this month, so
Kaitlyn Maher
I'm really excited you included Lux.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
As a character, which I think is so funny.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And what's so interesting about having all of you guys have such different personalities. You and Lux are the. In my opinion, because of how much you guys want to be in the public eye in certain ways, like acting, modeling, things like that. Lux needs to do comedy. It makes sense for you to include him.
Podcast Host - Ad Voice
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Because I think people are going to ask, well, why wasn't Lincoln in it? Or why wasn't, you know, the rest of your siblings? They're like, lincoln will be in content, but it's not his main focus. It's not something that he.
Elliot Maher
He likes drive to do that.
Kaitlyn Maher
Like, he'll be in our content or, like, take pictures and stuff. But it's not like he, like, he's not like, oh, let's film this, or, like, let's make this. And Lux is very much like, wants to do all the things. So I think that's really cool for him to be in it. And I hope that he listens because he keeps asking me to take him to Aud, and I'm like, my biggest fear is bringing out your brother to New York or LA or Chicago or whatever. And he gets in front of a room, in a room with people he doesn't know and has to have the same confidence he has at home with all of us. And I don't want to set him up for failure. So I feel. And it sounds good because I feel like I could say that all day until I get in front of these people and now. Do you know what I mean?
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
So I think this will be a good place for him to start.
Elliot Maher
And I agree. I was going to say that, too. I think that once, especially once I get the script printed and he can see.
Kaitlyn Maher
He.
Elliot Maher
He asked me, actually, he asked me, he was like, can I have it, like, on paper so I can look at it?
Kaitlyn Maher
Lux said this.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. And I was like, yeah, I'll pray it out for you, because, you know. Yeah. So I think also it'll give him more of an idea of what it's actually like. Because I think he was very confused when I asked him. He was like, well, because when I showed him the script, the part that for the opening scene, he's in the opening scene, he was confused because in it, one of the characters Asks him if he likes candy. And he was like, well. And he's supposed to reply with, yes. Like, what candy do you have? And he. He was confused because he was like, I don't really like candy that much.
Kaitlyn Maher
I thought you were gonna say mom taught me Stranger danger. Well, yeah, he said that. He basically said that, too, too, because.
Elliot Maher
So it's a horror film, and he's supposed to get kidnapped, and he's one
Kaitlyn Maher
kid that nobody would. I mean, they'd give him right back.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. No, he wouldn't. He wouldn't. He's not that dumb. He. He looked at me and he was like, I would beat this person up.
Kaitlyn Maher
We know.
Elliot Maher
And I'm like, just act it out. Act it. Just for the film.
Kaitlyn Maher
He said, I don't really like candy. He didn't understand that it's not real. Because I think our background is in reality tv. And, like, scripted versus unscripted is so different.
Elliot Maher
It is. Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And so I think that it's a skill. Like, when I see people acting, I'm like, I don't know how you are doing this in such a way that is so compelling that I literally believe you to be a real person and a real. Like, you're not just a character. And I think that.
That.
That's hard. But for sure, we'll see how he does. I think with. With your coaching and your guidance, I think he'll do a good job.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
And if not, then we find somebody else. Maybe Creed will do it.
Elliot Maher
Maybe. Maybe.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah. Creed might impress you. Creed's a little.
He's. He's.
I feel like he could do it.
Elliot Maher
I think so, too. On it. I think he'd be a good backup, for sure.
Kaitlyn Maher
They're both very coachable in terms of, like, just, like, encouragement. I think ESPE in sports, too. Like, very, very coachable. Coachable in terms of, like, what to do or, like, what plays to do. Like, they were very, very coachable. So I think, you know, if this is something Lux wants to do, he might be. And also, I need to not be there, because I think that he might give you a harder time if I'm there.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. I think the only concern I have is his adhd. He'll be bouncing off the walls. He'll be impatient. And that's the only concern I have.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay.
Elliot Maher
If you understand, because I do. Yeah. I'm hoping it'll be fine. Cause once I give him the piece of paper and explain to him how it works or whatever, I think this will be a really good experience for him. To understand like oh, I have to play a different character. It's not me. You.
Kaitlyn Maher

The world of acting is so scary to me because I never want you guys, you specifically, because your siblings are not as old as you are. But, like, I don't want it to break you when you're so young because I think the world of acting and modeling too is like, there is a lot of no's at first. I think a lot of people experience, like, rejection or turn, you know, turn aways. And I don't want you to be. Be broke down before you're ready. I think that sometimes it's hard for anyone at any time, but like a kid, I'm like, if he doesn't get roles that he auditions for, like, I just. My mom, like, my mama heart is not ready for it.
Elliot Maher
I think there's a lot of things I could say about that. I think that's why I'm so grateful that you got me to do theater in high school starting freshman year, because, you know, that puts one experience on my belt. Two, I can grow and learn the theater etiquette, I guess, and, you know, it makes. It helps realize that it's okay to get a no and it's okay to, you know, be put somewhere that, you know, maybe you weren't expecting and ends up being a good experience for the most part. And I also think that's why I want to start now, is because if I can start now, I will have more. Like, I. I know I'm not ready to be in like, a film now. Absolutely not.
Kaitlyn Maher
Right.
Like, right now you're just getting some experience.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. So that's why I want to start now so that when I'm ready, I have a resume. I have experience. I have. Yeah. And so, you know, when that time comes and I land a role, like,
Kaitlyn Maher
do you feel like your experience in theater at school has prepared you for disappointment? Like, when you're auditioning for roles and maybe you get a different character in the play than you wanted, do you feel like that has helped you at all, or do you feel like you're just still disappointed?
Elliot Maher
Yes and no. Yes and I think both. I think it definitely sets the tone of reality because, you know, the truth is you cannot possibly please everybody. So you're.
Kaitlyn Maher
You mean like the person who is doing the, like, running the auditions, they can't please everyone?
Elliot Maher
Yeah. And so, like, like somebody is going to be disappointed. I see what you're saying, you know what I mean? So, like, you know. No, though, because, you know, reality also is that not everything. Like, not every audition process is fair either. So, like, you know. I mean.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah.
Elliot Maher
Especially for a high school, like, you know.
Kaitlyn Maher
Yeah, yeah, no, I get that. I think that you and Lincoln could relate in some ways when it comes to that, because for him, for sports, it's sort of the same concept, right? Like, for starting players versus second string versus offense, defense, whatever that looks like. Like, a coach might feel like he belongs here, but he wants to be a forward or whatever. I don't really know the soccer positions
Elliot Maher
either. I couldn't tell you.
Kaitlyn Maher
Or like, for Lux, when the. His previous coach had him on defense and then she randomly decided to put him on offense, and she pulled me aside afterwards and was like, I cannot believe that I've left him on defense this long. He always needed to be on offense.
Like,
not everybody's willing to take that risk. And as your mom, like, even in your experience with theater, it's like, I just feel like some of the roles that you've gotten, I'm like, he deserved a better role. And so it's hard for me, too. So I can't imagine it not being hard for you.
Elliot Maher
And I think that's also why I really am excited to explore other theaters, you know, doing summer camps, things like that. Maybe doing theater outside of school instead of. Because getting a different experience, like, may have a different outcome and.
Kaitlyn Maher
Oh, go ahead.
Elliot Maher
Sorry.
Kaitlyn Maher
No, no, I cut you off.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. And, you know, when I'm stuck at school doing theater and there's no room for me to grow, I'm kind of just in the same spot every time. It's hard. So exploring other places would give me a better opportunity.
Kaitlyn Maher
I. I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think that if you're in the same place and you. You don't get another experience, you're not gonna ever be able to grow. Is there a world where you can merge ASL and theater at all or not really for a hearing person?
Elliot Maher
No, I don't think so. Because actually, like, is there.
Kaitlyn Maher
I guess what I'm asking is, is there a place for an interpreter in the acting world or. Yeah, like, I guess I don't know what I'm trying to say, but, yeah, for sure. Okay.
Elliot Maher
An interpreter. Like, for Broadway or for, like, theater shows? Yeah, yeah, that's a thing. But there also are companies and communities out there with deaf performances. Like, they have of musical shows and things like that for deaf people, and they sign like the character sign and. But the problem with that is that it's, I think, mostly or completely deaf people.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay.
Elliot Maher
So for me, I wouldn't be able to be a part of that. I don't think. I. I don't know too much about it, but that's how I'm pretty sure it is. Same thing for, like, deaf actors. They're not looking for hearing people who can sign. They're looking for deaf factors to be in movies like that.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay.
So the whole thing is so fascinating to me because I don't know anything about either world.
Elliot Maher
No, that was a good question, though, because I don't. I haven't explored that that much.
Kaitlyn Maher
Well, I was just wondering if there was a way for you because you have the passion for both. So I didn't know if there was a way for you to kind of integrate them or. I would love them somehow or, like, interpret. Kind of like what we talked about on coffee combos where, like, you could have your. We'll call it a corporate job of interpreting in a healthcare setting or an embassy or whatever, and then do the freelance of, like, interpreting for, like, a theater situation or become an. Maybe you're an actor and you're acting as an interpreter, but you also are an interpreter. Like, I just don't know if there's a world. But it's so niche that those opportunities might be very few and far between. So.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, well, the. I'm watching a show. This is kind of just one of those shows that I have watched forever and I haven't switched at birth.
Kaitlyn Maher
I've heard of it.
Elliot Maher
And one of the main girls is Death. And so there's a lot of signing involved. And if there was another show like that that would give hearing people an opportunity, because there are hearing people on those shows that either they sign or they're learning how to sign or sign because they have to for the role or whatever. Yeah. I think that if there was another show like that out there that would work. Or like.
Kaitlyn Maher
Oh.
Elliot Maher
Or like Ginny and Georgia. One of the characters, the dad in that show is deaf, and the rest of the family is hearing, and they all sign.
Kaitlyn Maher
Oh, that's cool.
Elliot Maher
So, like that.
Kaitlyn Maher
I love the representation.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. So that would. That would be a opportunity for hearing people to sign and act. There's only thing I could think of,
Kaitlyn Maher
a book that I read in the beginning of my reading journey. I want to say this is circa 2021. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe a little bit after that. And I wonder it. One of the characters is hard. Hard of hearing. I think if I remember correctly, it's been a long time or he was deaf and I think he signed and I wonder if. If they ever did like a book to movie adaptation. Like that would be cool.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
On that one it's called Archer's Voice.
Elliot Maher
Oh yeah. You talked about this to me. Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
The smut scenes really made me cringe. So I would suggest maybe taking some of those out for the adaptation. But it just makes my face turn red and I just don't like it. But outside of that was like a really cool book in terms of like the plot or whatever. But I think that could be cool. So similar concept to what you're describing.
Elliot Maher
I think if I end up. Or I probably will, but I think if I end up continuing to be a part of film and things like that, if I end up doing that professionally, I would love to write a story with a deaf character or.
Kaitlyn Maher
Oh, okay.
Elliot Maher
Because you know, we don't have enough of that. That we don't at all.
Kaitlyn Maher
But we talked about this a really long time ago. It's not just deaf and hard of hearing. It's also like toddlers, the autism community,
Elliot Maher
non verbal, non verbal communities.
Kaitlyn Maher
Like I think that's true. There's a lot to be said there too. So it doesn't always have to be deaf and hard of hearing. So there's definitely opportunity for you. I don't think outside of Kennedy Ryan, who is one of my favorite authors, she is an autism mom and she talks about it. She has included that in her book.
Pluto TV Announcer
Book.
Kaitlyn Maher
One of. One of her books or maybe several that I haven't read yet. But the representation of deaf, hard of hearing and autism and non verbal communities in the book world too. So like kind of like merging all of your loves in one thing is like the writing, the movie, the asl. Like putting that in a book could be a really cool idea.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, for sure.
Kaitlyn Maher
I just, I don't know how that comes across to those communities from someone who is not autistic, not hard of hearing and not deaf. I don't know how that comes across. I would maybe consider a sensitivity reader, which is something that the authors that I've talked to have told me about when they're doing something that they have not experienced themselves. They interview people and have readers from those communities give their feedback on the characters that they've written. So there's definitely a world to do that. I just think you have to be very, very careful and considerate and sensitive when you do do it.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
But with the Right. I think research and interviews that you. You could execute. And I think people will like, maybe appreciate it from you because you have had a love for that for so long.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, for sure.
Kaitlyn Maher
So that's cool.
Elliot Maher
Go ahead. Sorry. I definitely agree with you. I didn't know about that. Like the sensitive. The people that like sensitivity readers. Yeah, I didn't know about that.
Kaitlyn Maher
It's not just for the communities that we were just talking about. It's also for like sexual assault or I don't know why, like incarcerated parents comes to mind. I don't know why that did. But things that are any aces, sort of like trigger warnings, you can reach out to people who read specifically for that to like give feedback or you can interview people who have gone through it to really get a full picture in order to depict it properly.
Elliot Maher
Okay.
Kaitlyn Maher
So I think that that could be an option down the road if you ever wanted to merge the worlds. I think that. Yeah, that could be cool.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. So for sure.
Kaitlyn Maher
Said all that to say support the dream.
Elliot Maher
Yeah. Yeah. I would be so interested to do so short.
Kaitlyn Maher
Short film.
Second short film this summer.
Elliot Maher
Yep.
Kaitlyn Maher
Driving all summer.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
Driving with Lincoln to school next year. What else? What else do you have going on? London this summer.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, yeah, London. I'm hoping to be doing a theater summer camp this year. I found one and I auditioned. I haven't heard back yet, but I'm supposed to be hearing back like by Monday.
Kaitlyn Maher
Okay. So today's Friday, so we still have time, I would imagine. Probably nobody is working on Saturday. Sunday.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, I know.
Kaitlyn Maher
Over there. But hopefully I'm sure you'll get it.
Elliot Maher
Yeah.
Kaitlyn Maher
But even if it's just meeting new people would be great.
Elliot Maher
Yeah, for sure. For sure. And it's definitely experience. I'll have fun regardless, so. Oh, volunteering. I'll probably be volunteering a lot this summer. Had a lot of fun doing that this past school year.
Kaitlyn Maher
I'm glad. Well, I appreciate you coming on Barely Famous. I'm glad that we could do this random episode. I. My last guest canceled and said I was gonna just do a solo and
so it worked out.
But I'm glad to have you at work with me.
Elliot Maher
Of course.
Kaitlyn Maher
Where can people find you on socials?
Elliot Maher
