Scott Becker (0:00)
This is Scott Becker with the Becker Business and the Becker Private Equity Podcast. Two different podcasts, one earring today. And today we're going to discuss what is a RINO R I N O. And we'll put in parentheses Republican in name only in parentheses. So here's what's happened over the last few years. Anyone that has become negative towards President Trump is often branded and tagged by the President Trump the MAGA universe as a rino, a Republican name only. And I have to tell you, I don't say this just so I'm not attacked by President Trump. I'm actually, all things being equal, more of a fan of President Trump than not. And again, it's not an unequivocal fan. But I do love the patriotism, I do love the brashness. I, I do love stepping out of the political day to day everything that this sort of and the politicians that we have on the right and in the left just being complete political whores. So I actually in some ways respect and like President Trump. But what I take issue with is this concept that President Trump and his band of MAGA folks call other people rhinos, Republicans and name on it only. And this is sort of a scored a name, a tag that choose to attack anybody that doesn't agree with President Trump's agenda. So I find myself many times, lots I like about President Trump and then I can't stand sort of the thinking of Dr. Oz or of RFK Jr. I just think, you know, morons, morons, grifters paid by the insurance industry or just crazy RFK Jr. I, I don't know what to call it, but I don't know if they're actually paid by the insurance. I have no idea. But it seems like awfully close ties to the insurance industry. Who knows? In any event, not a fan of Dr. Oz and RFK Jr. But, but, but it is what it is. But that doesn't make me anti Trump. That makes me, okay, I'm fine with Trump, but think those guys are horrible. Now what makes me think of this concept of somebody being called a rhino is completely ass backwards and awful is as follows. Under the latest big beautiful bill, we're going to raise the deficit by $5 trillion and quite frankly we're likely to raise it by a lot more than that because in the next couple of years itself we're probably going to go up 2 trillion a year or so. So it's going to be a huge amount of a raised budget and so forth and raised deficit. Now if you're a traditional Republican, you are fiscal conservative, you hate deficit spending and you hate the debt. So when you call other Republicans a rhino and you have an administration that is going out of its way to crank up the debt and deficit spending, I think the tag RINO would be far better used to describe those often in the MACA universe than in the general Republican universe because debt spending, deficit spending has always been a non Republican thing. But this administration is very hardcore on debt spending. And I'm a big believer. I'm not. I, you know, again, Elon Musk is half crazy, Donald Trump is half crazy. At the end of the day, all of us are half crazy. But I am a strong believer that debt kills nations, it kills companies, it kills families, and that we have to get the deficit and debt under control. And that this administration, in passing a bill that will add to the political, the federal deficit is acting like rhinos. I know there are people that think deeply about these issues will be offended. The concept of calling the current Republican Party a rhino party will be offended by also saying that we like President Trump. I do. But it is a, it is a complicated world out there.
