I am really obsessed with the Mel Robbins let them theory and I loved her five second rule. I think she is so awesome and I'm sure many of you people listening to this love her too. But if you don't definitely check her out. I feel like something that I've been really incorporating into my life, personally and professionally is to let people be who they are and stop taking things personally. As I feel like I'm stepping into a place now in my own personally professionally where I have to say no to more things and stop over committing myself and being super genuine that like, if I can't, if I can't give them the time that they deserve, like refer them to somebody that can give them the time or like personally, more professionally. Right? So I think let people be who they are, meet them where they're at and always lead with kindness because I feel like it always comes back like tenfold. So I just felt really inspired to share that today. I am so excited to bring on my amazing guest who's back on the podcast medium Mari. She's incredible. Welcome back to becoming Next on Scene, everybody. I'm so excited to be back here with the amazing media. Mari. She is one incredible, incredible intuitive psychic medium, animal connector, all of the things. Did I do it correct, Mari?

Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. I'm, I'm a woman of many talents. So yes, I'm a psychic medium, animal communicator and I also help to find pets with the help of spirit.

So, so cool. So tell us a little backstory for our new listeners. How did you fall in to be like especially animal communication? That feels very unique?
- [02:47]
Mari
Yeah, well, you know, it's like I always like to say I was born this way. Like for me, you know, in my own body. I'm. Well, yeah, of course, like there's spirits and you can talk to them. Because some of my earliest memories may be like four or five years old. I remember spirits coming into my room and angels, and I would just talk to them and I was like, okay, this is just normal. It was normal for me and it just kind of continued throughout my life. I would connect with the trees and the animals and the flowers. And then at some point as I grew older, I realized that not everybody was doing that and that maybe I looked a little weird. So I kind of kept it to myself. I still, of course, did. That was always connecting with spirits and weird things would happen to me or I don't think they're weird, but other people might think they're weird. And it just sort of started from there. And then, you know, I got older. I went to school, college, became a licensed clinical social worker, had my family, normal things. And then I just kept getting sort of taps from spirit, you know, and I was like, yeah, yeah, whatever. Like, I'm not, this is like too weird. Like, because I'm just, you know, I'm a normal person. I'm not flying around on unicorns all day or anything like that. And the idea to me of doing this work seemed kind of a little out there. So I didn't really listen to any of the, of the nudges I was getting. And then one day I went to see a medium who'd come over from the uk and he said to me, you know, you're supposed to be doing this work. And I was like, what are you talking about? He's like, no, like you're a medium and you're supposed to be doing this. And I was like, okay, sure, like, whatever. Obviously I'm a little hard headed and it took me a little while to be convinced. But after that happened, sort of things started to snowball a little bit. My grandmother passed, my aunt that I was really close to passed. And they started coming to me and being like, hey, like, you need to be doing this. And I was like, oh, I don't know about this because here I am, soccer mom, normal, just living in the suburbs, living the life, working as a therapist. And then one day I was going to Florida with my daughter and we happened to be in the Orlando airport. And as you know, if you go into an airport restroom, there's like a million stalls. So I went into one of the stalls. And when I got in there, there was one tarot card, and all it said was trust. And I literally picked up the card, I looked up to the sky, and I was like, okay, I got. And so after that, I was like, all right, I guess I better be doing this.

I love this. And what was your first, like, communication with an animal?
- [05:38]
Mari
With an animal? Well, that sort of started later. I mean, I was. I've always been sort of connecting. Like, to me, whether you're an animal, a person, a plant, even, we all have energy, and that's what our soul, our life, you know, our life force is made of. So for me, I was just always naturally connecting to them and talking to them. But when do it more professionally, I started working with people primarily because that was the thing. And as you mentioned, I think animal communication is. Is less common. And someone said to me, oh, well, you know, well, connecting with animals is really hard. And I was thinking, well, like, why would it be. Because they're souls just like us. And I knew that I had always had that sort of internal dialogue with any animals that I connected with. And so I was like, all right, well, let's just do this. And so I just started taking animal clients. And for me, working with an animal, whether it's crossed over or here, is the same as working with a person.

Jackie Zook
So. Cool. So I'm curious. Like, specific animal questions. Right? So can animals express their emotions the same way as humans? Do you find that they do? Like, can they define love and fear the same? I don't know. Does that make sense?

Mari
Oh, yeah. No, absolutely. I mean, they're. In some ways, they're a lot more tuned in than we are. So that's. A lot of times how I start my session is just sort of getting the personality and the feel of the animal because they'll sort of make me do things, you know, make me feel things. And I always tell my people the way that I work is I'm very clairvoyant, which means I see things energetically. So if you have a session with me, your loved one person or animal will sort of drop in, like a clip of a movie or a picture or an image, and I will see it in my mind's eye. And then sort of between you, me, and spirit, we have to figure out what they're talking about, because, say they show me a pickle. Like, I don't know if it means they like pickles or they have a toy that's shaped like a pickle or, like, it's a Joke or something like that. Sometimes I'll get a feeling or I'll see clearly that it's a toy. But sometimes there's a little investigation to try to figure out what they're talking about. But for me, I primarily work clairvoyantly as well as clairaudient. Like, I'll hear things as well, and sometimes they'll just draw things almost on like an imaginary chalkboard. They'll draw words for me and, and I, I interpret it that way.

So this is all virtual too, right? Do you do, like. I know we can talk about this in a little about the in person workshops and things you're doing, but when you're doing the readings, is it virtual or.

Mari
It is. I mean, as you know, before COVID you know, everybody had offices and I went into my office and did it in person. But since COVID it just became a lot easier to work at my home office. And yeah, I do everything virtually. A lot of times I don't even do zoom. I'll do just a phone call or sometimes I have a service that I will work just through chat and people will send me their questions via chat. And I'm able to do a reading that way because it's just about the energy. It's not about the seeing or it's just I pick up on the energy. It's like my body is an antenna and I just tune in the energy and that's how it works for me.

Jackie Zook
So how do you clear yourself, like between sessions? Like, I feel like you're picking up all these, like, do you spread your sessions out? Like, walk us through that a little bit?
- [09:01]
Mari
I do, I do. I mean, I can't, I can't really do more than maybe like five or six a day because it's just too draining to be honest. It's like very. Because, you know, like you mentioned earlier, I'm a perfectionist. I want everything to be done a certain way. So I have a whole ritual that I use to set up my room after every client. I have sort of like an unwinding ritual that I do just sort of like, like shake off that energy. It's also just sort of setting the intention of, Right, okay, I'm going to leave this energy here. I'm going to move it to the next set. And before I start my day, I usually sit in meditation and say, okay, I'm going to connect with, you know, whatever these six clients. Please help me get the best and highest for them. So it's sort of already out there in the ether. Before I even start working and I set my day, okay, I'm working From, you know, 2 to 6 or whatever it is. And then after that spirit knows that I'm just. I'm shut off. Then I'm just. I'm just normal, Mom.

Oh, I love that. So it's boundary setting too.

Mari
Exactly, exactly.

Jackie Zook
I love this. So relevant in, like, all areas of life. It's like, it doesn't matter what you do for a profession, like, personally or professionally. Right. It's so smart.

Mari
I love that. Yeah. And the other thing is, like, if you don't set your boundaries, then, you know, and I'm sure you've probably had other people talking to you about this. You go the supermarket and spirits are bothering you, or, you know, and it's like, you know, like I said, I'm just a normal person. I don't want that all the time because it's just too overwhelming. And, you know, sometimes if the spirits are getting a little wacky, like, you know, in my house, sometimes they'll turn the lights on and off or the radio, and I'll just be like, look, I appreciate you want to connect with me. Usually it's one of my relatives anyway, but I'll say, look, I'm really tired, or I'm working on something else. So I would appreciate it if you could sort of tone it down a little bit. And they're always respectful, so I have never had a problem with that.

I love this, Mari. It's like, set the boundary so good. So with the connection, let's go back to the animal connection. So it can they be living like, let's say a dog has anxiety, my dog has anxiety. Can you pick up, like, stuff that she's dealing with, or is it only animals that have passed on?

Mari
It's both. I can do animals that are here, animals that are crossed over. It doesn't matter. It's just like if I'm doing a psychic reading on a person, I'm picking up their energy. Or if I'm doing a mediumship reading on someone that has crossed, I'm also picking up on their energy. So it doesn't matter whether you're here or you're crossed over. The energy is the same. I'm just sort of tuning into that frequency, if you will, on the radio and picking up whatever they have to say.

Jackie Zook
Interesting. And for most beneficial, like, on average, what's a good length of a reading?
- [11:44]
Mari
You know, it just depends. I think a lot of people have that, you know, 50 minute to an hour slot. But really try to keep the readings as affordable as I can. And I think I'm probably one of the very few mediums that still offers a 15 minute spot and that's just sort of to make it more affordable for everybody because I don't want price to keep people out of connecting with me. And I can definitely do a brief reading, you know, in 15 minutes on, on a pet or a person.

It's just shorter for sure. So cool. And so what's like. So you also won Psychic of the Year last year, which was awesome, right?

Mari
I did, I did. Best American Psychics. I know. I was so surprised. I was like, wow, this is awesome.

Jackie Zook
It's amazing. Congratulations. That's so good. What's next for you? Like what are goals you have for yourself? Like share a little bit.

Mari
Yeah, well, and the other ad, the other thing I wanted to add to that is that the year before through Ohm Times Magazine, I was also Animal Communicator of the Year. So I was very, very grateful for that as well. Wanted to put that out there in terms of awards and surprised also was not expecting it in terms of moving forward. I really do love working with the animals. I mean that is sort of where my heart is and it's. I don't want to say it's an easy connection, but it feels rather easy for me to slide into that. I do offer different classes. Like I've been running a class called Animals and Angels with a friend of mine, Kimberly Meredith, who is a medical intuitive and a healer. And we connect with, like the title says, either your animals or your angels or even loved ones that come through. They're small classes, so there are 10 people and everyone is guaranteed a reading. And we've been doing it, I think for the past couple years. I do have one coming up this Saturday, but it is sold out. So we are offering another one in June. And if you are interested, you better hop on that quick because that does sell out quickly. The other thing that I've sort of been working on is offering more healing sessions because as you know, anyone who's living now knows that this is a crazy time and everybody needs a little bit of healing now. And so I've really been working on putting together some healing classes to sort of help people heal, whether it's physical, body, mind, soul, and also healing for pets as well. So it's really about for me connecting to source, finding out what's going on in the body and what the body really needs to heal and tapping into that and providing that healing Energy and I'm kind of, I'm excited about that. I think that's going to be really a fun new step for me.

I love that. I think that's such a great add on and so needed right now. I couldn't agree more with that.

Exactly, exactly.

And, and actually on YouTube I have a show that I host with another friend of mine, Winter Brooke, and it's called Spirit Chat and we have fascinating guests on, you know, physical mediumship, trance, mediumship, animal communicators, astrologists and that is on all the platforms like Spotify, Apple, itunes, all that. I love that. I feel like you've been doing that for a while now too, right?

Yeah, I think we have. I think we're either in our third or fourth season. I don't even remember. But it's just, it's fun and we have, you know, amazing guests on. You can learn so much. And we also do, you know, readings for the audience if you come into the Zoom room and if you're looking to get a reading, we also do that as well. And it's just, it's fun and it's a great way to put our message out there in a supportive and loving way. So it's not because I think a lot of people feel like what I do is kind of scary and oh like occulty. And it's really, it's really not. Because I can tell you from doing this a long time and from personal experience, you know, once you cross over to the other side, it's really just about love. And that is really what it's about in the end. And that really is my message in general is that treat others with love, treat yourself with love, because that's the only thing that matters in the end.

And then I have one follow up question because I to your point, like people get a little anxious or nervous about reaching out. Like what would be like a, like can you give two or three takeaways of things people should consider, like, yes, this is a good time to probably reach out to an animal communicator or psychic.

Mari
Yeah. I mean, it just depends. I mean, I think the people that find me are the ones that are sort of drawn to me. And I recommend that for everybody. I'm not going to be for everybody. It's so you can go to my website, check it out, see if I. If the vibe fits you or not. But I think a good time to connect with a medium or an animal commun as if you've lost your pet. If your pet is maybe having some health issues. Although I'm not a vet, so if your dog is bleeding, please go to the vet and not me. I've had that. People have called me and said, oh, my dog's bleeding. What do I do? I'm like, go to the vet, because I'm not a vet. But I can tell you in terms of how the animal feels and things like that. So if the animal has crossed over, if it has some type of issue. Behavioral issues, I deal with a lot. And since I am a licensed therapist, I also help with grief a lot. So when people are really in those grieving stages of whether they're missing a person or an animal, I'm really helpful with that because I sort of know how to lead them through those next doors.

It's my pleasure. And like I said, it's really important to me to present the work I do in a real way. Because for me, it's not about the scary movies or hauntings or anything like that. It's really more about trying to unite the world and make people recognize that if something is happening in your house, if, like an object is being moved, it's probably not somebody trying to hurt you. It's probably one of your loved ones trying to say, hey, I'm here. I want to conn with you. I want you to know I'm around you. I support you. And that's really what our loved ones and our pets are here to do. They're always leaving us signs. And a lot of times people, well, whatever. I'm making it up to my imagination. It's really not because they want us to know that they are still here for us.
