Welcome back to becoming Next on Scene, everybody. It is your host, Jackie Zuck, and it is another awesome day for another awesome episode of how to become next on Scene in your field of business or in your passion. Before I bring on my amazing guests, I always like to start with a marketing tip to get your week started. That can also be, I don't know, I feel like marketing tip. I'm gonna be honest. Like, I feel like just talking about what's going on. I'm so excited. Next on scene is 10 years old this year and we had announced in March that we are doing a fashion show in collaboration and supporting humankind. Castings, photo clinics. So people on our Runway are going to be of all ages, all ethnicities, all disabilities, all different sizes. Like, it's such a diverse Runway of people that are business owners and like, it's not your standard models. We will of course have some standard, beautiful models, but we really, the majority of the Runway will be solely focused on diversity and really showing real people wearing clothing and being consumers and all those things. So with that being said, if you are a lover of fashion and you love supporting people, doing amazing things and giving back to a community that is really inspiring placements for children and also disabilities. This event is absolutely for you. We have people coming from New York and Florida and California. It is like we are going national with this. And I am just so excited. I have been dreaming and scheming on this for literally six years. The last fashion show I had was in 2019. So I love nothing more than bringing people together and bringing fashion to the forefront because everything is about style. There'll be comfy sweatshirts to, to business attire, to resort wear, to dresses, to handbags, to works of art you can wear on your clothes. Beautiful vegan jewelry that is made from leaves. And then we also have gorgeous gowns, ball gowns, wedding gowns, like just so many talented designers that have been award winning on television. Like just such a well versed community. So if you really want to be in a dynamic space and help give back, this is the way to do that. So everything is at on eventbrite or@nexoncene.com so definitely check it out. And we can't wait, can't wait to see you there. So outside of that, I am so excited to bring on my amazing guest today. We have Christine Murphy, who is a nurse practitioner for over 20 years. We talk all about medical weight loss today, the world of health and wellness and where it's going this year with all the changes in the Medical weight loss community and we're just here to inspire. So if you don't know Christine Murphy, you definitely need to check her out. Stay tuned for Christine.

Welcome back to becoming next on Tina Rudy. I'm so excited to be here with the amazing Christine Murphy who is the owner and founder of MOI Health and Wellness. Christine, welcome back to the how are you?
Christine Murphy
Nice to see you and be with you again.
Jackie Zuck
Jackie, you are such a rock star. Like three locations. Like since we've had you on the show, I feel like you've grown so much and so I want to talk about for our new audience might be on. How did MOI come about and what inspired the name?
Christine Murphy
Tell us. Well, MOI was like my, my me, my health and wellness. And so I just kind of loved how that looked. It's all about empowering yourself to take care of your own health and wellness and the way the business actually came about. One of my own family members had put on a lot of weight during COVID and sort of, you know, became depressed and, and it was around the same time that the injectable medications came out and I prescribed them for her being a nurse practitioner and she lost a lot of weight within a short amount of time and did quite well. Had a great improvement in her outlook. And from there our business just, just grew. You know, weight loss medicines are around everywhere now, but it kind of helped our basis grow pretty quickly for sure.
Jackie Zuck
And there's. So can you educate my audience just more too on the medical weight loss like background because like how did you fall into this versus like going like the healthy food? Like I don't know, I just, I don't understand that world. That's your world. So can you just fill us in on it a little more?
Christine Murphy
Yeah, well, I just did a lot of acute care, a lot of probably 22 years of acute care medicine. And so this is more wellness preventative medicine. And it's a GLP1 which Semaglutide is a GLP1 medication which helps, it helps the pancreas to secrete more insulin and actually helps you to stop that food noise that goes on in your brain, you know, where the cheese its, what's for dinner. So it helps people really lose a lot of weight, probably 10 to 15 pounds within the first 10 weeks with our semaglutide. And that's equivalent to your ozempic or your agovy which is the brand name. And the reason we use a compounding pharmacy, a compounding pounding pharmacy is able to produce a product when there's not enough to go around, if you will. When these products came out, there was really a high demand, so not enough to go around. Plus the, the initial product they used had an injector pen that they used to deliver the product. And that broke. When that, when that broke, they had to kind of manufacture a new one. So those came off the market. And when that did, it allowed compounding pharmacies to get a hold of that peptide, compound it with something else and sell it on the market. So now those companies are saying that they do have enough to go around. So that really halts the compounding pharmacies from continuing to move forward. The other medication we use is Tirzepatide, which is a GLP one and a gip, it's a double peptide. So it works a little quicker, a little faster and you have less side effects. Those side effects with semaglutide can be like a little queasiness or nausea. Kind of mimics pregnancy. Some people can tolerate it, some people can't. And then constipation is another, another big one. So with tirzepatide you really don't have that side, those side effects. So sort of a better product. It's a little bit more expensive. And so same with that one, we have Eli Lilly also saying that they can make enough product for everyone. But if you look to the left or the right of you, someone is probably on one of these medications. It really has tripled in the last couple of years. But so those.
Jackie Zuck
Oh, I just have a question.
Christine Murphy
Yeah, so no, I was going to say, so the compounding pharmacist is kind of slowing down a little bit in terms of which way they sort of produce the product. So if they produce it with something that is not an exact replica of the brand name, then you're okay to continue producing that product. It's a little complicated though.
Jackie Zuck
Yeah. What would you say are misconceptions around these weight loss medications?
Christine Murphy
Misconceptions would be that you should just diet and exercise. Sometimes people can't. Some people have dieted exercise. A lot of people who I see are menopausal, so we have that sort of mid waist layer of fat and it really helps to burn that. Most people notice like right away their bloating is gone, their joints feel better because you just feel overall less inflamed. So I think the misconceptions are that, oh, you know, you can just diet and exercise to lose weight when really that's not the case for everybody.
Jackie Zuck
And then what would you say? Because, like, even your husband looks amazing. Like, he did this whole thing. Like, once you do the program the first time, in terms of maintenance. Can we talk about that? Because I know once people stop, then it's like they can go backwards.
Christine Murphy
Right?
Jackie Zuck
Like, can you talk more about that, too?
Christine Murphy
Yes. So I have a lot of people who will just lose £20 or whatnot, and then, you know, kind of never call me again. But most people like the way they make them feel. And I think for maintenance, it's a weekly injection. So if you want to lose weight, you take the injection weekly. If you're on a maintenance phase, we tell you just to go down to the lowest dose of medication and stretch that dose out. So instead of seven days, try 10 days, try 14 days. And then see if you can go once a month, six weeks, and then just kind of keep it in your fridge. And, you know, if you feel you're getting bloated or your appetite, it's really increasing, then you might want to take a shot, and then that can last you for again, another six weeks. So our maintenance is really, you know, low and go slow, low. And then when you maintain, try and stay at the lowest dose possible, then just kind of truck along. I mean, I think everybody has to diet, exercise, drink your water. But it definitely is a. A tool to help you improve the number, decrease on the scale, for sure.
Jackie Zuck
No, that's. So thank you for that. Share. And then also now you have your salt spa at the Lakeville location. Right? You have.
Christine Murphy
So that's great. I love that. That's almost. Yeah. In June, it'll be a year old. We did that. We just had an extra space. And really, that's been popular. It's very relaxing. You can rejuvenate and refresh in there. We did have a lady in there the other day who, you know, had an overall sort of congestion, which is what's happening these days, and it kind of helps you breathe better. You feel over. Not overjoyed, but over. You know, Zen, if you will, you relax. We give you a nice warm heating mask, and there's some waterfalls in there that you listen to. And like I said, you're breathing better. Her. Her. She must have had copd, I believe. But she did, you know, when she came out, she was coughing, which is opening up your airway. So that's much improved. Of course, after each client, we do spray with Lysol and Whatnot. But it's a great atmosphere to kind of relax and sort of open up your airways and feel great.
Jackie Zuck
Yeah, I was like reading all the things the salt air is good for. I was mind blown by how.
Christine Murphy
Oh yeah, it really is. And you know what, they're very popular.
Jackie Zuck
So is that like what inspired you? I guess out of all things to put in there, like why was it the salt? I mean, I love it.
Christine Murphy
I'm just so curious, why was that? You know, that's a great question. I kind of wanted sort of an overall sort of relaxing vibe. And we have thought about some red light therapy and those things are popular as well. But that the salt room is always open. So it's great and we can always pop in and out of it. But I think it just kind of adds to, to our environment. We have a lot of people who will add that on. They'll come in for a visit and pop in there for, you know, a 15 minute visit. So it's kind of relaxing environment. I think I just wanted to add that to our, you know, repertoire.
Jackie Zuck
Oh sure. And then also too, you also have the holistic primary, direct primary care you now have like you will. You've been doing the aesthetics like the lasers and those things. Can you talk more about those services as well?
Christine Murphy
Oh, sure. So we have our laser, which is our Advera laser. It's a skin rejuvenation. It is amazing for your skin. You know, when you do one treatment, it actually tightens and tones and kind of plumps and hydrates. But when you do say a three day, a three package, your overall turnover of your cells, it gives you a nice younger, youthful look, as most lasers do. So we love our laser and we also do prf, which is great, where we draw your blood, we spin that down and get the liquid gold, which is the human growth factor and the platelet rich fibrin. And we inject under the eyes, in your marionette lines in your lips, anywhere. That kind of help promote collagen promotion, collagen production. Excuse me. We also do a little micro needling too that we can apply all over your face to help improve and plump, which is great. So you get a nice glow and you know, with about 30 days you'll see a little improvement in your tightening of your skin. Every year we use about lose about 1% of our collagen formation. So we have that sort of brevity. So it helps to really plump you up and bring you back to life.
Jackie Zuck
I love it. And then you were doing the PRF for the hair stuff too. Right.
Christine Murphy
So that's also, that's my favorite. I love that. You know, after having kids, I had a little bald spot. You can't even see it anymore. I just gave myself one treatment. But it's great for any alopecia kind of areas like that. And it really helps to thicken the follicle and help to support the growth. So even with one treatment within 30 days you'll notice like your fuzz growing back, a feeling of thicker hair, that kind of thing. So we just kind of inject all over your scalp and it's her.
Jackie Zuck
It is maintenance for that. Is there maintenance for that or is it. Can you only once for one bald spot you had.
Christine Murphy
Right. Yeah. So if we had one lady who really had a significant amount of, of baldness and she had a. Three treatments within three treatments, you no longer had to wear her hairpiece. What a significant difference. So if you're really looking for fuller thicker care, three treatments or more for one with about 30 days apart and then maybe for maintenance you do about once, once a year. So with that same drug and it really, it's a, it makes it so you know that self confidence empowerment happens.
Jackie Zuck
So I love it. And then now you have your functional medicine, holistic direct primary care. Can you talk about those as services?
Christine Murphy
Yeah, so we do that as well. You know, I, I do see a lot of people who want a primary care and decided over the years we might as well do that. So we don't take insurance. It's a little bit of a challenge when you do down the road we might look at Blue Cross Blue Shield. It is on our list of to dos. But right now we don't take insurance. So you come see us, we do a kind of a complete physical, assess any of your needs, order any prescriptions you may have, that kind of thing. And we have memberships for that program as well and we're quite busy, so it's great. Direct primary care is becoming more popular as insurance challenges higher co pays. Those kinds of things are happening. We do take.
Jackie Zuck
Yeah, go ahead. I was, can you.
Christine Murphy
I'm sorry, I was going to say we do take HSA or fsa, those kinds of programs to help cover those costs.
Jackie Zuck
Can you give examples of what people would come in with for the direct primary care or the functional medicine?
Christine Murphy
Oh, sure. I copd I had someone who needed some prescriptions, really didn't have a primary care. So they came in for a full, for full visit and we assessed full head to toe and then really had some anxiety issues, wanted to quit smoking. So not only did we give inhalers, we added an X ray. We gave smoking sensation prescriptions and psoriasis prescriptions and kind of head to toe addressed everything. And then the follow up for after that and then they may go back and that particular person is trying to find a primary care at the moment. So they don't have anybody. So we'll manage that patient and his care until. Until they're all set. And then other people pre ops will see someone for prior, someone who really kind of moved to the area and was having surgical surgery. I think it was knee surgery. So we did prior authorization for that. Couple people come in for like a urine infection, more urgent, but not abdominal pain. We don't have any imaging on site. We do have a urinalysis machine, but we don't have any imaging on site. So that sort of higher level would need to go to urgent care.
Jackie Zuck
I love this. Full service wellness at.
Christine Murphy
Yeah, we do see a lot of men for men's health. So we'll do testosterone therapy, which is. Which is great. I mean that is big right now. Kind of helps improve your fatigue and libido, your overall performance. So we see a lot of improvement in men on testosterone.
Jackie Zuck
I love this.
Christine Murphy
There's a lot of information about HRT now. Yes.
Jackie Zuck
Yeah. But for even like your background. So you've been a nurse for over 20 years. Right. Can you tell us a little bit people who don't know you like, let's talk about.
Christine Murphy
I graduated as an RN in 95 and I became a nurse practitioner in 2002 from UMass Boston. And then I did work at Brackton Hospital for a significant number of years, 17 maybe. After that I went on to primary care. And then Covid hit. I did some few other things in between, but Covid hit and then kind of always felt I was going to own my own business. And then it kind of happened once. Once Covid hit, I thought I got to get out of this corporate world. So.
Jackie Zuck
Love your unique story too, Christine, if you don't mind me sharing. But like you originally wanted to be a hairstylist. Can we talk about this? Yeah. Can you?
Christine Murphy
Yes, I did. I always wanted to be. I'm a chatty Kathy. So I always told my father I wanted to be a hairstylist and he thought, oh, I want you to be a nurse. I thought, no way. Unfortunately, my father died and then a few years after he passed, I kind of was thinking about him and thought about it and sure enough, I Thought, I'm going to go ahead and be a nurse. And I did that. And turned out his mother was a nurse and I didn't even know that, you know, his. Unfortunately his parents passed when he was young too. So just kind of the trajectory of all of that made sort of warm my heart.
Jackie Zuck
I love it. It's like a full circle moment, though.
Christine Murphy
Yeah, for sure.
Jackie Zuck
Do you think you'd ever. Do you ever do hair for fun? Like, I was so cool, you know.
Christine Murphy
I think I tried it. My cousin and I used to cut each other's hair, sort of, you know, oh, I can do your hair, no problem. We were in our 20s, probably trying to save a dollar. It never really looked as good as you did when you'd go to a professional, so.
Jackie Zuck
So I just love that story. I think it's so sentimental and I just love full circle moments. So what is next for you? What goals you have for yourself?
Christine Murphy
Yeah, so there are some changes coming down with the fda, so we are just transitioning. We are adding sort of regenerative medicine onto our list of services. That's regenerative joint medicine where you can inject either steroids or PRF into the joint, into your elbows, your knees, et cetera, to improve, to regenerate growth and to improve pain and improve the healing time. We're also going to be extending our neuromodulators. We do also Botox and Dysport, but we're going to be doing fillers for cheeks and for lips. So that'll be coming down the pike in April as well as IV therapy. That's always been on our list. It's just finally coming to fruition on that one. Probably because there's been a shortage on normal saline in the area. I think that'll be coming out in May is when we're going to start in IV therapy with glutathione and nad. Those are some big ones right now that are really helping the anti aging process and helping with brain fog and all those things that help with menopausal symptoms.
Jackie Zuck
It makes sense, no? This is so exciting. How can people follow you? Check your website. All the things.
Christine Murphy
So we are in right now. So we're in Marshfield in Lakeville. We also have our spot in Plymouth and we have a social media account on Facebook as well as Instagram www.moihealthandwellness.com. our phone number is 781-206-7631. And that's it.

Jackie Zuck
So for all your wellness needs, go to moi health and wellness. You will.
Christine Murphy
Yes. And I also have a medical assistant. She's amazing. She's, she's usually always answering the phone. So we usually have someone answering the phones if, unless we're busy. You know, we usually gets right back to people. But she's amazing. So her name is Cherry Love.
Jackie Zuck
Share. You've got a great team there.
Christine Murphy
