Thank you, Bill. It is Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Here's what's happening today in America. Police stop gunman Zoran raises the rent Sharia illegal in Oklahoma. And an Olympic update. It's all coming up. Then Bill's gonna be here with your message of the day. But first, U.S. capitol Police said a man exited a vehicle with a shotgun and began running towards the Capitol. He was quickly arrested. The Capitol Hill police chief said that our police observed this individual, challenged him and ordered him to drop the weapon and get on the ground, which he did comply with. He was then taken into custody. He had a tactical vest on with tactical gloves. This was near the west front of the U.S. capitol building. The vehicle was which the man exited from is not registered in his name. The new mayor of New York City, Zoran Mamdani, said that if Governor Hochul does not support a tax increase on millionaires, then he will be forced to raise property taxes by 9.5% on more than 3 million single family homes, co ops and condos and over 100,000 commercial buildings. Just to be clear, the guy who ran on freeze the rent just a couple weeks into office is going to raise the rent. Property taxes are the only taxes that mayors can control without approval from Albany, although the city council would have to approve it. This tax increase would close, they say, a $5.4 billion fiscal gap, which I'm sure is only going to get worse with their new communist mayor. In related news, legislation introduced in Oklahoma would restrict the application of certain foreign laws in state courts and and limit foreign ownership or control of land and critical infrastructure. It's Oklahoma house Joint Resolution 1040. It would prohibit Oklahoma courts from applying Sharia law or other foreign legal systems in judicial decisions. The state rep who introduced this bill said while we recognize that Americans enjoy freedom of religion, this resolution is a step to protect homeland security and Oklahomans constitutional rights. Writes that Islam and Sharia law do not adhere to. Sharia law is a political ideology presented as a religion. It's a Trojan horse used to infiltrate free and independent nations such as America in order to overthrow them and instill and expand Sharia law principles. Your Olympic update for the day. Amber Glenn, who really, really wants you to know that she is queer and pansexual, blew it on her first skate. She's like 12th or something. The other American is currently in third place going into the free skateboard. Our men's curling team lost both their games yesterday, but they played Great Britain today. To decide which of those two are going to go into the playoffs with the four remaining teams, Men's freestyle skiing, we got the silver. Also silver. And men's team pursuit speed skating metal count. Norway has 31, Italy with 24. We're trailing behind with only 21. I'm Mike Slater. From the podcast Politics by Faith, the great Bill O'Reilly has your message of the day. Next.

Time now for the O'Reilly update. Message of the day. On this Wednesday, Barack Obama and Gavin Newsom are simpatico on the homeless problem. The government owes street people safe dwellings. That's what the men believe. In order to achieve that, California spent approximately $30 billion over the past five years to house people. It has not worked. Around 200,000 individuals remain on the streets, almost all of them substance abusers or mentally ill, often both. While in San Francisco over Super bowl weekend, I found out exactly what's going on by talking to the addicts themselves. Often state housing is is too dangerous. They say there is no drug testing to get a place little security in the buildings and that allows violent pushers to run the state facilities. A California audit reached this conclusion. Quote, there is no reliable data to track expenditures on free housing. So it's chaos. Politicians almost always exaggerate reality, especially when policies fail. Governor Newsom says homelessness in California is down 9%. But how would he know? The situation is chaotic. People go where the drugs are. $30 billion is a colossal amount of taxpayer money, especially when thousands remain on the street. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me billorilly.com, billorilly.com name in town. If you wish to opine now, let's go to the mail. John Schramko, Hickson, Tennessee. Bill, I watched Secretary Rubio's speech in Munich, thought it was excellent. My question is, why was Hillary there? Because it was a private conference and she was invited. There wasn't a government run anything, just confab. It was like the Switzerland thing. It's a security conference. All right. Scott Steele, Springfield, Tennessee. Can you explain why President Trump feels a need to strangle the Cuban economy? As far as I'm aware, Cuba has no military threat to the usa. Well, how about the human rights violations over there? There? How about we have millions of Cuban Americans here, have relatives back there getting killed and hammered? I mean, that's a pretty tough thing 90 miles away. John Flam, Sparks, Nevada, why are governors from California, Michigan attending conferences undermining the current administration? Isn't this a violation of Logan Act? No, they're invited. They can go wherever they want. They're Americans. That's no Logan Act. They're not negotiating anything. They're free people. Wendy Weber, Champaign, Illinois. Can you explain why Mitch McConnell is voting against the SAVE Act? If I could explain Mitch McConnell, Wendy, I think I'd get the Nobel Peace Prize. He's the guy who killed, literally, Kate's Law. I mean, this is a guy who should have been retired a long time ago. He's got some stupid excuse, but boy, oh, boy, I hope he retires. Thomas Harmon, Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Hey, Bill, do you think President Trump would get behind an initiative to balance the budget? No, I do not. He's a spender, all right. Always has been, always will be. In a moment. Something you might not know now, the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. 17 years ago today, Pope Benedict held a private audience with speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. During the brief exchange, the pontiff chastised the progressive Pelosi for her extreme position on abortion. Here is the story. Elected to the House of Representatives in 1987, Pelosi became Speaker 20 years later. Though Catholic, she supported abortion with no restrictions, even advocating the procedure. During the ninth month of pregnancy. In February 2009, Pelosi met with the Pope for a private 15 minute conversation. During the meeting, Benedict admonished the Democrat for not protecting the sanctity of life, quote, from conception until death. Observers described the talks as cool and aloof, contrary to protocol. The Vatican did not allow any pictures, no official images of the meeting ever released. Back in the States, Nancy Pelosi toll report is the following. There's differing views on whether or not you talked with the Pope about the issue of abortion. Did he talk to you about the issue of abortion?
D
Different views. I think the Pope's office's press release was very clear that he made his statement. We also talked about other things so.
A
You talked about abortion?
D
No, we didn't talk about it. He made his statement about life. And we also talked about hunger and poverty and climate change and religious freedom and my family. And we had a lovely conversation.

And here's something else you might not know. Abortion in America has remained relatively unchanged for decades. Since the 1990s, roughly 600,000 women terminate their pregnancies each year. Less than 12% of abortions are performed for medical reasons. In Europe, the practice is mostly banned after 14 weeks. The nations with the highest rates of abortion, Vietnam, China, North Korea, Russia, India and Canada. Back in a moment. Thank you for listening to the O'Reilly update. I am Bill O'Reilly. No spin, just facts. And always looking out for you.
