Bill O'Reilly, here. You are listening to the O'Reilly Update. Coming up next, the News with Mike Slater.
B
Thank you, bill. It's Monday, February 24, 2025. Here's what's happening today in America. A traumatizing request, cash makes moves, German elections and Kamala wins something. It's all coming up. Then. Bill's gonna be here with your message of the day. But first, Elon wrote on X, consistent with President Trump's instructions, all federal employees will receive shortly an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation. Not everyone took this request well. New York magazine wrote of one federal employee who said they're proving that their only goal is not efficiency, but to dismantle democracy by traumatizing federal workers. This was a traumatizing request. Elon said the reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they're not checking their email at all. In some cases, we believe non existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks. In other words, outright fraud. He later said, to be clear, the bar is very low here. An email with some bullet points that make any sense at all is acceptable. Should take less than five minutes to write. The new FBI director, Cash Patel, says he plans to relocate up to 1,000 employees from the Washington office to field offices around the country, areas particularly that have seen increases in violent crime and move an additional 500 to their Bureau facility in Huntsville, Alabama. Cash Patel will also be running ATF, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Congressman Burleson of Missouri introduced legislation to abolish the atf. He said it's very simple. Eliminate this redundant agency that consistently violates Second Amendment rights. Germany had their elections yesterday, the center right and by center right, like just barely to the right of our Democrats. The Christian Democratic Union got the most votes, 28.8% of the vote. But all eyes were on the AfD party Alternative for Germany. They got 20.2% of the vote. Germany is Europe's biggest economy, their most populous country. It's worth noting that Germany's per capita GDP is the same as our poorest state, Mississippi. Kamala Harris, she did not win the presidency, but she did win the NAACP Image Award. She said in her acceptance speech, some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy and ask what do we do now? But we know exactly what to do because we've done it before and we will do it again. We use our power. We organize, mobilize, we educate, we advocate. Our power has never come from having an easy path. Oh, man. How different would things be if she won the presidency? But she didn't. I'm Mike Cider for the podcast Politics by faith. Bill O'Reilly with your message of the day next, we finally beat Medicare. He's right.
A
He did beat Medicaid, beat it to death.
C
Joe Biden's legacy for seniors. He raided Medicare, made premiums skyrocket and drove up drug costs. Worse, the Biden pill penalty is already slashing the development of affordable drugs, forcing seniors to pay the price of Biden's failed policy. Biden broke Medicare, but President Trump can fix it. Call Congress and urge them to end the Biden pill penalty.

Time now for the O'Reilly update. Message of the day. On this Monday, there are conservatives very angry with Donald Trump, even some Maga people, because Mr. Trump seems to be siding with the evil Vladimir Putin in the Ukraine war situation. As you remember, last week, President Trump said that Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, is a dictator. And Mr. Trump put forth that the Ukrainians could have prevented the war if they had been more reasonable in their negotiations before the shooting started. Now, I'm not endorsing this at all one way or the other. I'm just telling you where we are. Mark Levin, very prominent conservative radio guy, he is lambasting Donald Trump and people who are criticizing Zelensky in Ukraine. Other conservatives are disappointed because they feel that Bad Vlad is evil, which he is. In fact, my upcoming book out in September, confronting Evil, has Putin on the COVID alongside Hitler, Mao and the Ayatollah Khomeini. But keep this in mind. Above all, it would be best for the world if the war ended in Ukraine. And that's what Trump's trying to do. I don't think he's going to give away the store here. I think this is all a posture to get bad Vlad to the table and get this resolved. I hope I'm right. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. Now let's go to the mail. Philip, why is Donald Trump involved in congestion pricing in New York? Because federal money came to New York City to build and repair some of the roads. And once you get in bed with the feds, they got say that's the loophole. Ted Lyons, St. Charles, Missouri. Why would President Trump take a 10 minute flight from West Palm to Miami to make a speech that looks like he's tone deaf when Doge is trying to cut waste. TED it would cost far more money for the president to drive the 90 miles down I95 in a caravan. Everybody else off the road. Far more money than flying down there. You know, presidential caravans aren't cheap. Judy McBride, North Attleboro, Massachusetts. School vacation is here this week in Massachusetts. My grandson is home in bed with the flu. I am reading him chapters from Confronting the Presidents and he is looking forward to it now every day. You're a great grandma, Judy. Number one, you get those urchins involved with history early, stays with them their whole life. Dr. Kevin Burke, Gastonia, North Carolina. The idea for the Three Americans tour is intriguing. My question is, will the three of you develop a dance as was done for the Three Amigos film? Number one, that's a terrible movie and part of the reason is because of that stupid dance. So, no, we're not gonna do that. Should have been a good movie short Martin and Chase, and it wasn't. Sharon, please come to Boston with the Three Americans tour. Sawyer Miller show and it was fantastic. Boss is on my list. Boston, South Florida, Hard Rock, Vegas on the list. But why don't you come to Long Island, Sharon? You're not far away. So if we can't do it nationwide, don't miss a chance. In a moment. Something you might not know. Now, the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. Television ratings in the USA are down big. People are not watching linear TV anymore. Last week, more Americans viewed shows on YouTube than on television sets. The turn towards streaming marks a major shift from people's habits just 25 years ago. So let's do a little comparison here. America's most popular shows in the year 2000, 25 years ago, ranked by Nielsen. Here they are. Number 10, the practice. Never watched it. I think it's a doctor's thing. Number nine, law and Order still on the air, but a tired FL format to say the least. Number eight, 25 years ago, everybody Loves Raymond reruns hold up pretty well. Made Ray Romano a fortune and it's a decent show. Number seven, west Wing done. Very few even remember it. It was about the White House. Number six, Will and Grace beginning the Woke movement does not hold up. You very rarely see reruns of that. Number five, who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Regis Philbin made that show. Okay, it's around, I guess, but it's never been the same since Regis passed. Fourth place, Friends. Still funny. The six actors became multimillionaires and remain icons to this day. Rest in peace, Matthew Perry. Now, the top three from 25 years ago, Monday Night Football, well, it's a shadow of its former self when you had Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and how it Kelso, second place. ER gave us George Clooney. And I am holding that against ER. Finally, the most popular television show of the year, 2000, Survivor. More than 52 million Americans watched the finale. It's still around, but it's slowly dying. Sorry. Back after this. Thank you for listening to the O'Reilly update. For more news and honest analysis, please go to billoriley. Com. I am Bill O'Reilly. No spin, just facts. And always looking out for.
Bill O’Reilly’s No Spin News and Analysis: The O’Reilly Update, February 24, 2025 – Detailed Summary
Released on February 24, 2025
1. Federal Employee Oversight and Alleged Fraud Initiated by Elon Musk
The episode opens with a significant update regarding federal employees. Elon Musk, in alignment with former President Trump's directives, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that all federal employees would soon receive an email requesting a summary of their work accomplishments from the previous week. Musk emphasized the seriousness of this initiative by stating:
“Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.” (00:09)
This directive has sparked controversy. A New York Magazine piece criticized the request as “traumatizing,” highlighting the distress it has caused among federal workers. One federal employee commented:
“They’re proving that their only goal is not efficiency, but to dismantle democracy by traumatizing federal workers.” (00:09)
Musk justified the measure by pointing to potential inefficiencies and even outright fraud within federal employment:
“In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks.” (00:09)
Despite the stern warning, Musk later clarified that the response required was minimal:
“To be clear, the bar is very low here. An email with some bullet points that make any sense at all is acceptable. Should take less than five minutes to write.” (00:09)
2. Changes in the FBI Leadership and ATF's Future
The discussion then shifts to changes within federal law enforcement agencies. Cash Patel, the newly appointed FBI Director, unveiled plans to reorganize the bureau's structure:
Relocation of Employees: Patel intends to move up to 1,000 FBI employees from the Washington office to various field offices nationwide, particularly targeting areas experiencing increases in violent crime.
Expansion in Huntsville, Alabama: An additional 500 employees will be stationed at the Bureau facility in Huntsville.
Leadership of the ATF: Patel will also assume control of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
This move has incited legislative action. Congressman Burleson from Missouri introduced a bill aimed at abolishing the ATF, arguing:
“It’s very simple. Eliminate this redundant agency that consistently violates Second Amendment rights.” (00:09)
3. Germany's 2025 Elections and Economic Comparisons
Germany recently held its national elections, and the results indicate a significant political landscape shift:
Christian Democratic Union (CDU): Secured the highest votes at 28.8%.
Alternative for Germany (AfD): Garnered 20.2% of the vote, positioning themselves slightly to the right of the Democrats.
Given Germany's status as Europe's largest economy, these results have broader implications. Notably, Germany's per capita GDP aligns with that of the United States' poorest state, Mississippi, raising concerns about economic parity within the nation.
4. Kamala Harris's NAACP Image Award Speech and Implications
Though Kamala Harris did not win the presidency, her recent recognition at the NAACP Image Awards highlighted her influence and vision. In her acceptance speech, Harris addressed pressing societal challenges:
“Some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy and ask what do we do now? But we know exactly what to do because we've done it before and we will do it again. We use our power. We organize, mobilize, we educate, we advocate. Our power has never come from having an easy path.” (00:09)
O'Reilly mused on the potential impact had Harris secured the presidency, suggesting a markedly different political landscape.
5. Medicare and Biden's Policies Critiqued
A critical segment addresses President Joe Biden's handling of Medicare. The narrative suggests that Biden has undermined the program through several policies:
Medicare Premiums: Biden is accused of increasing premiums, making the program less affordable.
Drug Costs: There has been a notable rise in prescription drug prices under Biden’s administration.
Biden Pill Penalty: Implemented to discourage pharmaceutical companies from developing affordable drugs, this policy is criticized for stifling innovation and burdening seniors financially.
A notable quote encapsulates this criticism:
“Biden broke Medicare, but President Trump can fix it.” (03:04)
Listeners are urged to contact Congress to oppose the pill penalty, emphasizing the administration's detrimental impact on senior citizens.
6. Trump’s Ukraine Stance and Conservative Reactions
Bill O’Reilly delves into the contentious topic of former President Donald Trump's stance on the Ukraine conflict, which has caused unrest among conservative circles:
“Zelensky... is a dictator.” (03:30)
O’Reilly offers his perspective, hinting at an upcoming book titled Confronting Evil, which categorizes Putin among other historical tyrants such as Hitler and Mao. He suggests that Trump’s actions might be strategic, aiming to bring Putin to the negotiation table to resolve the conflict.
“Above all, it would be best for the world if the war ended in Ukraine. And that's what Trump's trying to do.” (03:30)
7. Listener Mail Highlights
O’Reilly engages with his audience by addressing several listener messages:
Philip from [Location Unknown]: Inquires about Trump's involvement in congestion pricing in New York, with O'Reilly explaining it as a result of federal funding tied to infrastructure projects.
Ted Lyons of St. Charles, Missouri: Questions the cost-effectiveness of Trump taking a short flight from West Palm to Miami for a speech, suggesting it was financially imprudent compared to traveling by land.
Judy McBride from North Attleboro, Massachusetts: Shares a personal anecdote about reading Confronting the Presidents to her grandson, highlighting the importance of early engagement with history.
“Number one, you get those urchins involved with history early, stays with them their whole life.” (03:30)
Dr. Kevin Burke of Gastonia, North Carolina: Proposes the idea of the "Three Americans" tour developing a signature dance, to which O'Reilly humorously declines, criticizing the concept by referencing the "Three Amigos" film.
Sharon from [Location Unknown]: Encourages participation in the "Three Americans" tour, mentioning potential stops in Boston, South Florida, Hard Rock, and Las Vegas.
8. Shifts in Television Consumption: Decline of Linear TV and Rise of Streaming
In a segment titled "Something You Might Not Know," O’Reilly discusses the dramatic decline in traditional television viewership in the United States. Highlighting a shift towards digital platforms, he notes:
“Last week, more Americans viewed shows on YouTube than on television sets.” (03:30)
This trend signifies a substantial change in how content is consumed compared to 25 years ago. O’Reilly provides a nostalgic comparison of the top television shows from the year 2000, illustrating the evolution of viewer preferences:
Top Show of 2000: Survivor
Other Notable Shows from 2000:
This analysis underscores the transformative nature of media consumption, with streaming platforms overtaking traditional TV in popularity.
