Thanks, Bill. You're listening to the Weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening this week in America. Birthright citizenship to the Supreme Court, diplomas rescinded, Russia agrees in principle and higher standards in the military. It's all coming up, and Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, Trump has asked the Supreme Court to allow him to end birthright citizenship. Trump Trump issued this order, a interpretation of the 14th Amendment, on his first day in office. And it says, just because you're born on American soil doesn't mean you're a citizen unless you have at least one parent who is a US Citizen. When he did that, three federal courts, Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington issued directives pausing that order. If the Trump administration succeeds in the Supreme Court, the policy would immediately go into effect. The key word in the 14th Amendment is all persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States. The argument goes that a foreigner is not subject to the jurisdiction thereof. The writers of the 14th Amendment in 1868 were clearly referring to freed slaves, not illegal aliens. The Trump administration has withheld $400 million in federal funding to Columbia University, about a third of their federal grant money until they stop their anti Semitism on campus. And finally, Columbia has expelled students who occupied one of their buildings last spring in their pro Hamas protests. They did not say how many students will be expelled. Some students actually already graduated. They'll have their diplomas revoked. I didn't even know that was possible. Hopefully other schools get the picture. An American delegation led by Steve Witkoff landed in Moscow yesterday to meet with Russian leaders about the ceasefire that had has been agreed upon by Ukraine. The Russian President Putin said he agrees in principle with the US proposal for a 30 day ceasefire. The idea is correct, putin said, and we certainly support it. But there are issues that we need to discuss and I think we need to talk about it with our American colleagues and partners. Perhaps have a call with President Trump and discuss it with him. Speaking of war, the Pentagon under Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has ordered a review of all military standards, that's physical fitness, body composition and grooming. During his confirmation hearing, Hegseth said that will be a part of one of the first things we do at the Pentagon, reviewing that in a gender neutral way. The standards ensuring readiness and meritocracy are front and center. We must remain vigilant in maintaining the standards that enable the men and women of our military to protect the American people in our homeland as the world's most lethal and effective fighting force, our adversaries are not growing weaker and our tasks are not growing less challenging. Time now for the O'Reilly update. Message of the day, the Mahmoud Khalil story very important. He's a former Columbia University graduate student arrested by ice, facing deportation. President Trump said we got to get him out of here. Now. If you believe the corrupt leftist media, Khalil is a legitimate pro Palestinian protester, a man of conscience just speaking out against injustice and he has that right. Khalil holds a green card and has been living in New York City legally. His wife is about to give birth. But even a casual scanning of this man's public activity shows he is an agitator, a person comfortable with a bullhorn calling for divestment from Israel. That is legal speech in America. However, there's more to this story. Receiving credentials to work or study in the USA is a privilege, not a right. And that privilege can be withdrawn if a foreign national indulges in questionable behavior, as Mahmoud Khalil certainly did. He was smack in the middle of damaging protests at Columbia University trustee bullhorn in his hand. Nevertheless, I believe Khalil should get due process, a fair hearing in front of an immigration judge. Cases like this one should be decided by evidence that separates America from Hamas. Now, the O'Reilly Update brings you something you might not know. 56 years ago, a man in Memphis, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to murder. His crime, assassinating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here is a very strange story of James Earl Ray. On April 4, 1968, King was shot dead while standing on the second story balcony outside his motel room. Police later found a Remington rifle abandoned on a nearby sidewalk. During the next few weeks, the gun, eyewitnesses and fingerprints all implicated one suspect, escaped convict James Earl Ray. A petty criminal, Ray escaped from a Missouri prison a year earlier while serving time for armed robbery. After the assassination of Dr. King, a global manhunt began for him. On June 8, police in the UK arrested Ray at a London airport. His plan was to fly into Belgium, then to the African nation of Rhodesia. At the time, Rhodesia, now called Zimbabwe, was ruled by a white supremacist government. The key question all this where did a grifter named James Earl Ray get the money to travel all over the planet? Well after he was apprehended, Ray came back to the USA. On March 10, 1969, he pleaded guilty to avoid the electric chair. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison. But three days later, James Earl Ray attempted to withdraw his guilty plea, claiming he was innocent and part of a larger conspiracy. And here's something else you might not know. During the 1990s, the widow and children of Martin Luther King spoke publicly in support of Ray and his theories. Family called for a new investigation about a potential conspiracy involving the US Government, FBI, CIA. Over the years, the assassination has been re examined twice by the House Select Committee, three times by the Justice Department. Each investigation ended up with the same conclusion, James Earl Ray killed mlk. Now Donald Trump's Justice Department is releasing new details about King's assassination. Let's all hope the documents shed more light on how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Was murdered. Back after this. I'm ready for my life to change.
