Bill O'Reilly
Bill O'Reilly, here. You are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. Coming up next, the News with Mike Slater.
Mike Slater
Thanks, Bill. You're listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. Here's what's happening this week in America. The new American pope, the first nation to sign a new nominee and an FAA remaking. It's all coming up. Then Bill's gonna be here with your message of the day. But first, the new pope is an American. He's now Pope Leo the 14th, born in Chicago. He's probably the first pope to be a White Sox fan, graduate of Villanova University. That's a famous alum for you. I imagine they're pretty happy over Villanova. He has voted in Republican primaries only. He's a he's a registered Republican. But his social media account, by way of retweets, has been critical of J.D. vance and Donald Trump. Alas, our president said it's such an honor to realize that he is the first American pope. What excitement and what a great honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo xiv. It will be a very meaningful moment. Big trade announcement yesterday was a new deal with the United Kingdom. The White House said that this deal will open up $5 billion in new markets for Americans. This is the first nation to sign a new formal trade agreement after the tariff announcement. The 10% baseline, that liberation Day tariff remains in effect, which the White House estimates will generate $6 billion in external revenue. Howard Lutnick, our commerce secretary, said they sell Rolls Royce engines to Boeing, made in England. We've agreed to let Rolls Royce engines and those kinds of plane parts to come over tariff free. And what you're going to hear today is there's going to be a big announcement in the UK that they're buying $10 billion worth of Boeing planes later today. Disappointing news. Ed Martin will not be the U.S. attorney for D.C. a few Republicans bailed on him. So Donald Trump named Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro as the interim U.S. attorney. If those Republicans had a problem with Ed Martin, I imagine they're going to have the same qualms with Pirro. Thom Tillis in North Carolina was the main Republican against Ed Martin. He's up for reelection coming up in 2026. There's talk of possibly Lara Trump, a North Carolina native, running against him. Donald Trump said he'll name Ed Martin to be the new director of the Weaponization Working Group at the Department of Justice as well as associate deputy attorney general. The FAA has pledged to fix all the problems. At Newark Airport, Trump spoke at an event with Secretary Duffy, our transportation secretary. And Trump said a complete modernization is going to be taking place soon. We are beginning the process of fully replacing the technology at more than 4,600 air traffic control sites and building six new state of the art air traffic control coordination centers. This is clearly what we need, a massive revolutionary change, trump said. It's long overdue for a remaking from the ancient infrastructure that we're still using today. Bill O'Reilly has your message of the day next.

Message of the day. We all pay taxes so our elected officials will have money to protect us and solve problems. That's Civics 101. But you may have noticed that few schools teach civics any longer. Certainly the politicians have noticed. My current take is that the Democrats really are not trying to solve difficult situations. They are solely interested in opposing Trump. Here are some questions to back my assertion up. What is the Democrats solution to the $37 trillion debt to illegal drugs being smuggled in from Mexico? To ending the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, to the yearly trillion dollar trade deficit, to preventing Iran from building nuclear weapons, to the exploding cost of health care? What are the Democrats putting forth to solve any of those problems? Well, President Biden had no specific plans to improve any of those things and it looks like his party is carrying on Joe's tradition right now. Maybe I missed the Democratic sponsored legislation on the Hill, but I doubt is much easier to oppose solutions from anybody, especially the Trump administration rather than proposing your own solutions. Right Democrats. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me bill at bill o'reilly.com bill@billorilly.com name in town if you wish to opine. All right, let's go to the mail. Barry Weinstein, carry North Carolina. O'Reilly, you should know that a president of Mexico agrees to allow the American army into her country to attack cartel. She and her family will be assassinated. We pointed that out that there is a danger to the presidente. Even ordinary Mexican citizens be shocked, not forgetting the war we fought against them taking Texas and other claimed territories. I don't know about that, Barry. 1845 is a long time away and I think most Mexicans would be relieved that drug cartels are destroyed. That is my opinion. As far as President Scheinbaum is concerned, maybe she requests the Navy Seals guard her if her own government can't. Right. I'm sure President Trump would provide her with security in a joint military exercise. Eric, Claudia Scheinbaum not strong enough and her country is too corrupt. The US Cannot protect the few honest politicians and America's drug addiction is too strong. Also, many US Politicians, business leaders are paid off by cartels. No, they're not. There are a few on the border that are paid by cartels, but that's not a big problem here. Okay. It is a big problem in Mexico. Paul delucio, Las Vegas Here's a tough love hard truth. The cartels are not responsible for drug use deaths in the usa, but the drug users are. It is willful suicide. Well, that may be true, but so what? Do you let cartels kill millions of people, gun them down, corrupt the whole country, smuggle migrants in here? No, you destroy them. Got to destroy them. You can blame the drug addicts and I don't have a lot of sympathy for a lot of those people either. But this is bigger than that. In a moment, something you might not know.

Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know Another budget battle looming in Congress. Predictably, Democrats are trying to scare the public by claiming Republicans want to slash spending on Medicare and Medicaid. Despite the blather, President Trump has promised to protect the entitlement system. However, to be fair, significant changes must be made to ensure these programs are solvent in the future. Here are the facts. America's welfare state drastically increased in July 1965 as part of President Johnson's Great Society program. Medicare was designed to provide government subsidized health insurance for senior citizens. At the time, nearly all workers obtained coverage through their jobs. Those who retired, however, were immediately booted from the program. Medicaid gives free health care to low income families, the sick, disabled and those unable to find work. It is administered by the states, but gets federal tax dollars now. During the first year, the entire budget for both Medicare and Medicaid was about $1.3 billion, the modern equivalent of 12 billion total enrollment 25 million Americans. Sixty years later, the system has spiraled out of control. The 2019 combined spending on Medicare and Medicaid topped $1.4 trillion. More than 150 million Americans are enrolled in either program, nearly half of the U.S. population. In 2024, taxpayers spent $1.8 trillion on the public health care system, an increase of 30% in five years under President John Joe Biden. The mounting cost is a result of two things. First, Americans are living longer. When LBJ started the entitlement programs, the average life expectancy in the USA was 66 years. That figure has risen to 81. Secondly, fraud. Department of Health and Human Services estimates 15% of all health care payments are bogus. That's $300 billion in fraudulent waste. Can the system continue that way? No. Back after this. That is the weekend edition of the O'Reilly update. No spin, just facts. We are always looking out for.
Bill O’Reilly’s No Spin News and Analysis Episode: The O’Reilly Update, May 10, 2025 Release Date: May 10, 2025
In the May 10th, 2025 episode of Bill O’Reilly’s No Spin News and Analysis, host Bill O’Reilly delivers a comprehensive update on the latest developments in American politics, international affairs, and domestic policy. The episode features a mix of news reporting by Mike Slater and insightful commentary from Bill O’Reilly, structured to provide listeners with a clear and factual overview of pressing issues.
1. The First American Pope: Pope Leo XIV
Mike Slater kicks off the segment by announcing a historic moment for the United States—the election of the first American pope, Pope Leo XIV. Born in Chicago and an alumnus of Villanova University, Pope Leo XIV marks a significant milestone in the Catholic Church’s history.
Slater highlights Pope Leo XIV’s political leanings, noting his participation exclusively in Republican primaries and his status as a registered Republican. However, the pope’s social media activity shows a critical stance towards prominent Republican figures like J.D. Vance and Donald Trump.
2. US-UK Trade Agreement
The segment continues with the announcement of a significant new trade deal between the United States and the United Kingdom. The agreement is poised to open up $5 billion in new markets for American businesses and marks the first formal trade agreement following recent tariff announcements.
Slater anticipates a major announcement regarding the UK’s planned purchase of $10 billion worth of Boeing planes, emphasizing the economic benefits of the deal.
3. Appointment of U.S. Attorney for D.C.
In other news, Ed Martin will not assume the role of U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia as initially planned. Instead, Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro has been appointed as the interim U.S. Attorney following Republican concerns about Martin’s suitability.
This change comes amid political tensions, particularly with figures like Thom Tillis in North Carolina, who opposed Martin’s appointment and is now facing a potential challenge from Lara Trump in the 2026 reelection cycle.
4. FAA’s Modernization Efforts
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is undergoing a significant transformation aimed at modernizing air traffic control infrastructure. At an event in Newark Airport, Trump outlined plans to replace outdated technology at over 4,600 air traffic control sites and build six new state-of-the-art coordination centers.
Trump emphasized the necessity of this overhaul, calling it "a massive revolutionary change" that is long overdue.
Transitioning from the news segment, Bill O’Reilly addresses the pressing issue of declining civics education in American schools and the Democrats' approach to governance.
Lack of Civics Education
O’Reilly underscores the importance of civics education, stating that understanding tax payments and governmental funding is fundamental—“Civics 101.”
Democratic Governance and Solutions
He criticizes the Democratic Party for not proposing concrete solutions to major national issues, instead focusing solely on opposing President Trump.
O’Reilly poses several critical questions regarding the Democrats' lack of proposals to address the national debt, drug trafficking, international conflicts, trade deficits, nuclear proliferation, and healthcare costs.
He asserts that the Democratic Party is more focused on obstruction than on governance, urging listeners to recognize the absence of meaningful policy solutions from their side.
In this segment, O’Reilly addresses comments from listeners, focusing on the issue of drug cartels and U.S.-Mexico relations.
Barry Weinstein from Cary, North Carolina
Barry raises concerns about the safety of Mexico’s president should she allow the American army to intervene against drug cartels, fearing assassination threats to her and her family.
O’Reilly responds by expressing skepticism about the feasibility and potential benefits of such an intervention, emphasizing that eliminating the cartels would ultimately benefit both Mexico and the United States.
Paul Delucio from Las Vegas
Paul provides a tough-love perspective on drug use, asserting that drug addicts are responsible for their own deaths and that cartels should be dismantled to prevent further harm.
O’Reilly acknowledges Paul’s point but insists that the broader impact of cartels—such as violence, corruption, and illegal migration—necessitates their destruction.
In the final segment, O’Reilly delves into the escalating costs of Medicare and Medicaid, providing a historical perspective and analyzing current financial challenges.
Historical Context and Current Spending
Originally established in 1965 as part of President Johnson’s Great Society program, Medicare and Medicaid have expanded exponentially. Initially serving 25 million Americans with a budget of approximately $1.3 billion, today, over 150 million Americans are enrolled, with combined spending reaching $1.8 trillion in 2024.
Factors Driving Costs
O’Reilly identifies two primary factors contributing to the rising costs:
Increased Life Expectancy: The average life expectancy has risen from 66 years in 1965 to 81 years, resulting in longer periods of entitlement.
Fraudulent Expenditures: Fraud accounts for an estimated 15% of all healthcare payments, equating to approximately $300 billion in wasted funds.
Implications and Future Outlook
O’Reilly questions the sustainability of the current system, emphasizing the necessity for substantial reforms to ensure the long-term solvency of Medicare and Medicaid.
He concludes by highlighting the urgent need for policy changes to address these financial challenges, ensuring that the entitlement programs can continue to serve future generations.
In this episode of The O’Reilly Update, Bill O’Reilly provides listeners with an in-depth analysis of significant national and international events, coupled with critical commentary on political dynamics and policy issues. From the historic election of an American pope to the intricate challenges facing Medicare and Medicaid, the episode delivers "No Spin. Just Facts," adhering to the program’s commitment to unbiased and factual reporting.
