Thank you, Bill. It is Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Here's what's happening today in America. Iran attacks the UAE. Alito has had enough gunfire outside the White House and apologies to the would be assassin. It's all coming up. Then Bill's gonna be here with your message of the day. But first, the president warned that Iran would be, quote, blown off the face of the earth if it attacks US Vessels carrying out Project Freedom. This is as Iranian forces fired missiles, drones and deployed fast attack boats against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This prompted our forces to destroy six Iranian boats. Iran launched a major barrage at the United Arab Emirates. They launched a drone that landed in one of their oil industry zones, the largest oil storage area in the Emirates. This is the first attack since the ceasefire was reached in early April. This unfolded on the first day of what the president dubbed Project Freedom. This is an effort to begin moving hundreds of stranded commercial vessels through the strait. CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said that Iran normally deploys 20 to 40 small boats in such an operation. But he said, quote, today we saw just six and we eliminated them quickly. Last week, the Supreme Court said that Louisiana's congressional maps are unconstitutional because they used race as a criteria for drawing the districts. Well, Louisiana wants to change the maps as soon as possible for this midterm and the Supreme Court immediately put into effect its ruling. Usually it takes 32 days before the justices formally return the case to the lower court, but the Supreme Court did it immediately in this case and Justice Alito has had enough with Justice Jackson in his comments. He said the dissent, that's Jackson in this suit levels charges that cannot go unanswered. US Secret Service exchanged gunfire with an armed man near the White House. The Secret Service agent was able to hit the suspect and the suspect fired back and his bullet hit a child who just happened to be in the area. This was 3:30 yesterday. A plain clothed Secret Service officer observed a suspicious individual that appeared to have a firearm. Then uniformed Secret Service police followed the suspect and when they made contact, he ran and then fired in the direction of the officers. The officers then returned fire. No hard proof yet that this was directed the president. But not long before this, the vice president's motorcade passed through the area. This as the would be assassin from the White House correspondence dinner had his hearing in court and the US Magistrate Judge Zia Farukhwai apologized to the would be assassin because of the conditions he's received so far in jail. U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro said. Welcome to D.C. where the magistrate judge believes a defendant armed to the teeth and attempting to assassinate the president is entitled to preferential treatment in his confinement area compared to any other defendant. One of the things we are losing in America is a sense of what's really important outside of family and good friends. It might be a device in your hands. How many could stand up to losing access to cyberspace? Developing a sense of reality and discipline, very important in life, pursuing truth, maximizing your potential. Those things are very, very important. Here's an example. It is extremely vital that the United States defeat the terrorist state of Iran. If that happens, the world would be a far safer place. So every decent person on the planet should be rooting for America to prevail as quickly as possible. Of course, that is not happening. Even some Americans are failing to support their own country. They harp on what the mission is or the past bombing of Iran's nuke facilities. Why are they doing that? What good is accomplished in the Monday morning quarterback room? Lambasting the president is not a smart move at this point in history. After we neutralize the mullahs is the appropriate time to assess the entire competency of the Iranian campaign. Not now. As Kenny Rogers once sang, there'll be time enough for counting when the dealing's done. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me, Bill, at billoriley.com billorilly.com name in town if you wish to opine now, let's go to the mail. Edward concierge. Remember, Edward gets direct access to me and my crew. Edgar has a problem. We will try to help him. Ed says, I support the president, but he should have made case to the public months in advance and gain support before attacking Iran. He is way out on a limb now. Longer this goes on, the more capital and power he sheds. Can't argue with that. Got to wrap it. Bob Kisch, Atlanta Beach, Florida. Why doesn't anyone see that Iran has been foot dragging, hoping that Congress will use the 60 day war powers act to shut down the war? Am I the only one who sees this? No, but I'm not sure whether the War Powers act overrides the worldwide economy. I think the mullahs are more interested in destroying the worldwide economy and the War Powers act, which could go either way. It's going to go into the federal courts. Steve Kerrigan, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. And your message of the day, O'Reilly, you note the latest Harvard Harris poll regarding the midterm elections. Given the current sentiment regarding the economy in Iran war, wouldn't that be an outlier? No, because it's a good poll historically. Harvard Harris, pretty good. That's Mark Penn. They're pretty, you know, I got to go by history. I don't care what their political point of view is, they perform well. Ralph Concierge, remember, polls are split 50, 50. It shows half the country doesn't know what's going on. I would agree that half the country doesn't know what's going on, but I don't think it's all ideology. People believe what they want to believe. In a moment, something you might not know. Now the O'reilly UPDATE brings you something you might not know. 205 years ago today, an imprisoned emperor once ruled vast sections of Europe, died on a small island in the South Atlantic. His death ended six years of exile to one of the most remote regions on earth. Here is the story of Napoleon Bonaparte. Born on the Mediterranean island of Corsica in 1769, young Napoleon rapidly rose in the ranks of the French revolutionary army. By 1799, France was at war with most of Europe. Bonaparte returned from battle in Egypt and seized control of the French government. A military coup six months later, he was named first council. By 1804, Napoleon crowned himself emperor. Within three years, Bonaparte controlled an entire empire stretching from Spain all the way across the southern Mediterranean. Things started to fall apart in 1812. The Emperor's forces retreated to France. In March 1814, his enemies captured Paris. Bonaparte abdicated his throne, was dispatched to the island of Elba, off the coast of Italy. He escaped and returned to France with a group of supporters. They caused havoc across the continent until June 1815, when his army was crushed by the English at the Battle of Waterloo. The former emperor was then placed on a Royal Navy ship in Plymouth, England, and dispatched to St. Helena, a tiny island between South America and Africa. Once there navigate, Napoleon was confined to a local estate called Longwood House. The decrepit property was damp, filled with mold, infested with rats. Napoleon died on May 5, 1821, at the age of 51. Some believe he was poisoned by the English. Others think he died from his stomach malady. And here's something else you might not know. Napoleon eventually returned to France. Twenty years after his death, his body was exhumed, shipped to Paris. Today, his tomb remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the French capital. Back in a moment. Thank you for listening to the O'Reilly update. I am Bill O'Reilly. No spin, just facts.
