Ana Navarro
Hi, everyone. Welcome to this week's episode of Bleep with Ana Navarro. This week we have a great interview with Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader. He needs no introduction. And you all know that if Democrats, when Democrats retake the House this November, Hakeem Jeffries will be the speaker of the House. But before we get to that, I want to talk about the Trump family. Yes. What is the new grift? What are the most. The latest grifts of the Trump family? Listen, they're not just pissing off Knicks fans in our own country, but they have an entire foreign country that is out there protesting against them. So this is a story you may have missed. I want you to go look it up. And it involves Albania. Thousands of Albanians are out in the streets and have been in the streets for days protesting Jared Kushner's plan for a massive $4 billion coastal development project on the country's 1400 hectare island of Sassan in the Adriatic Sea. So, Ivanka Trump, do you remember back when people didn't used to hate her? Do you remember back when we thought she was authentic and that she would bring some compassion and sanity to the White House, where she and her husband monetized being special senior advisors to the President, her daddy? Well, this time around, they decided to stay in Florida. They live in Indian Creek where Jeff Bezos lives now and Mark Zuckerberg, it's referred to as billionaires bunker. And Ivanka Trump was on this podcast last week talking about this project with her fake as fuck breathy voice and all the filtered lighting making her look soft and dewy. And she not only lives in billionaire's bunker, this chick lives in billionaires bubble. It's just incredible how out of touch she is with regular Americans and with how people around the world are living and the economic distress that the world is under because of her daddy's created war. So Ivanka tells the story of how she and her husband are on the yacht of their billionaire friend when they discover this island. Yes, she had the gall to say she discovered the island like if she was some sort of Magellan or Christopher Columbus. No, the fucking island has been there for thousands of years, people. Okay? It's not like you discovered anything. And so she hiked barefoot to the top of this island and said to herself, wouldn't it be great to turn this into a luxury resort? Wouldn't it be great to turn this into a place where people like to live the way I like to live because after so much introspection, I've realized that there's this certain way I like to live. By the way, in the same podcast, she talked about how she drops off her kids in the morning, then she goes and sits by the water, by the sea, Miami Beach, I guess, and she meditates. And then she comes back and she exercises and she talks about how this grounds her, how this anchors her for the rest of the day. And it only takes one and a half to two hours. What mother trying to pack their kids lunchbox, trying to drive their kids to school and then rush off to work? Do you think has two hours to put her away? Thinking about the meaning of life, really, it just blows the mind. But anyways, there's literally, Albania is a country of only 2.4 million people, and there have been thousands of Albanians taking to the street protesting against this development, this taking over of Sassan island for a luxury development deal. And so, you know, as people do, they're on this yacht and then they beckon the prime minister of Albania over to the yacht and propose this $4 billion deal. Well, it's not going off well in Albania. And for people who know about it here, it is not going off well here. The Albanians are protesting it because of what it would mean to the ecosystem of Albania. But that's not the only and latest Trump family grift. So let me give you some ideas and example of what else they are doing. So they are, you know, we've all heard about this 250th celebration anniversary of the United States. Celebration, of course. Hiles, would you celebrate if not with a UFC match, which just happened this last weekend? We have all seen the gargantuan, garish, horrible rollercoaster type thing that they have built for this cage match at the White House and how they've torn up the whole lawn of the White House and God knows how much money that's costing you and me, but if that wasn't enough, and by the way, let us remember that it's the ufc, because Donald Trump has invested in the ufc. But that's not the end of it. The other thing they're doing is that they are releasing a UFC branded Trump coin in collaboration with the UFC on a dedicated website. And they come in four varieties. There's the silver medallion priced at $250, and it goes up to the gold version, which cost $11,999.99. It, of course, includes portraits of Trump with UFC chief Dana White, because You know, there is no better way to celebrate Americans freedom than putting Trump's mug, his ugly mug on everything. This guy's, he has this like psychotic need to put his face and his name on everything. Whether it's the Kennedy center entrances, the entrance passes to national parks, the U.S. passports. I mean, there is, I just can't get over the fact that somebody with his face, his orange coloring, his corn silk ridiculous hair thinks that he needs to put that face on everything. But yes, so he's, they're selling this gold coin which based on market rate costs roughly $4,000. So they are selling it for an $8,000 markup. This is the fourth crypto project now that the Trumps are profiting from. And Trump has a lot to celebrate. Not only did he just turn 80 years old, but he also just received a hell of a birthday gift from the Republican House majority. They voted to allocate an additional $70 billion of taxpayer money to ICE through 2029. And let me just explain, that is very unusual. You see, government agencies are usually funded year to year because that gives Congress leverage. That means that there's gotta be congressional accountability because agencies have got to come back every year to ask for their funding. But that's not how the Republicans chose to do it. Because of course they are afraid they're going to lose the majority and then they would have to have accountability. And let's not Even mention the 1.8 billion proposed anti weaponization fund that was also part of this ICE funding package. All Democrats, every single Democrat in the House opposed the package, but all Republicans who controlled the House voted to pass it. So it passed on a straight party vote. Two hundred and fourteen Republicans voted yes, 212 Democrats voted no. After the break, we're going to talk about this horrible package with Representative Hakeem Jeffries. He recorded with us last Monday right before the vote went to the House and he explained why all Democrats were fiercely opposed to this bill, especially at a time when Americans can't pay for health care, can't pay for groceries, can't pay for gas. But yes, let's fine $70 billion to give to ICE so that they can terrorize American citizens and immigrants. We also talk about his visit to the immigration Detention center where there's been all these protests in Newark, New Jersey. It's called Delaney Hall. We talked about the Supreme Court and the Voting Rights act ruling. It's very personal to him. So tune in for this interview with Hakeem Jeffries.

Ana Navarro
Hi everyone. I have such a special guest this week. It is U.S. house Leader Hakeem Jeffries. He's on the show so bienvenido to bleep with Ana Navarro. And let me just say I I've got like an entire page on biography that I'm not even going to read because you need no introduction. You are Hakeem Jeffries. And after November, if and when, when Democrats retake the House, you are going to be the Majority Leader, the speaker of the U.S. house of Representatives. So let's talk some policy issues. Can we start with, with ICE and ICE funding? You are in the midst of dealing with an ICE funding package that's coming over from the Senate. It is an enormous amount of money, which I don't even understand because I thought ICE was already funded for years and years to the tune of billions of dollars. I don't understand how at a time when there is no money for health care subsidy, no money for SNAP benefits, no money for anything, no money for subsidies for farmers, and yet here we are again, sending a $70 billion package to fund ICE through 2029. But one of the things in this package that the Senate is sending over to you is it includes the $1.8 billion anti weaponization fund, the Trump Anti Weaponization Fund. I don't get this, because Trump's AG testified in front of Congress, said the weaponization fund was dead. Anytime Trump gets asked about it, he says, it's not dead, it's beautiful. The Republicans say they don't like it, but it's in the package that the Senate sent to you for ICE funding. So can you just break this down for, for me, like if I was a five year old?
Hakeem Jeffries
Well, listen, it's great to see you, as always. And one, ICE is completely and totally out of control and they need to be reined in. And taxpayer dollars should not be used to brutalize or kill American citizens, which is what ICE has done, of course, horrifically, in Minneapolis with Renee, Nicole Good and Alex Preddy. And taxpayer dollars should not be used to violently target law abiding immigrant families, which ICE continues to do. And so, as House Democrats, just like our colleagues in the Senate, we're a hard note on this ICE funding bill because we believe that immigration enforcement in America, it should be fair, it should be just, and it should be humane. And we're not giving a dime to Donald Trump's violent mass deportation machine. Now, with respect to the weaponization fund, Democrats led by Chuck Schumer tried to include in the Republican budget reconciliation bill, by amendment, a provision that would explicitly prohibit a dime of taxpayer dollars being used to pay violent insurrectionists, for instance, who brutally beat police officers. On January 6, Republicans rejected that amendment. So the ICE funding bill is silent on the $1.8 billion slush fund. That's corrupt, inhumane and unpatriotic, which is a problem for us because effectively, Republicans are turning a blind eye to it and allowing Donald Trump or the acting Attorney General to move forward with this fund if they so choose. And it's another reason why we should vote down this Republican budget reconciliation bill.
Ana Navarro
I want to continue asking you about immigration. You recently visited the Delaney Detention center in Newark, New Jersey, where people are protesting because the conditions are deplorable. Joaquin Castro and other Congress members have been going a lot to the Dilley Detention center, where children are being held in horrible, unsanitary conditions. They're getting sick from dirty water. They have lack of medical care, lack of education. It's just terrible. I heard the stories from my home state of Florida about Alligator Alcatraz, which was designed to be cruel, to be a place where people were suffering. What did you see at Delaney and what can we do about it?
Hakeem Jeffries
Yeah, in my view, these two detention centers in particular need to be shut down. It's inconsistent with who we are as Americans. And led by Lamonica McIver, the congresswoman from Newark, as well as Rob Menendez, you know, in the adjoining Congressional district, who represents parts of Newark as well, I believe, in the East Ward. You know, they have consistently visited the people in Delaney hall who are law abiding immigrants. Not a single violent criminal was in that detention center. I spoke to teenage girls as young as 18, one of whom was just a month away from graduation and several months ago was detained, ripped away from her family, her community, her high school, even though she has an ongoing petition that would give her legal status. That was the case with so many of the people that I talked to who told us about sort of inadequate medical care, unsanitary living conditions, and certainly poor food and nutrition. This is not America. That was my reaction after touring the facility and speaking privately and candidly with almost two dozen people, some of whom have been there for over a year and some of whom had actually finally said, you know what? I'm going to walk away from my case. They've signed an order to be deported and they're still there. Which suggests to me that these privately run detention facilities, right, there's a profit motive that is involved.
Ana Navarro
They're being run by Republican donors. These are not just any company. They're companies like the Geo Group. They're companies that have given Republican candidates, including Trump, millions and millions of dollars.
Hakeem Jeffries
That's absolutely right. And if you think about it, the people who run the Delaney hall detention Center, I think, have a billion dollar contract for 15 years. This is how our taxpayer dollars is being spent, as you pointed out, Anna, as opposed to actually trying to drive down the high cost of Living, making health care affordable, making it so that people can afford to go see a doctor when they need one. Nutritional assistance is being ripped away from the American people. Gas prices are through the roof because of Donald Trump's reckless and costly war of choice in Iran. Yet they want to spend billions of dollars to sustain Donald Trump's violent mass deportation machine. It's unpatriotic, it's unacceptable and it's un American.
Ana Navarro
Can I ask you, when you become speaker of the House, when Democrats retake the House, can there actually be accountability for the horrible, horrible shit we have seen for the last two years? I mean, can there be accountability for the assassinations of Renee Goode and Alex Preddy? Can we have some real oversight of these detention centers and some real answers? Because I just feel like Americans are so frustrated at everything we have seen for the last two years under Trump. The corruption, the grift, the conflict of interest, the self enrichment, the destruction of the White House, the cruelty against immigrants, the tearing up of congressional districts, so many different things where Republicans have provided zero pushback or oversight. Can we go back? Can these things be reviewed after the fact if you retake the House?
Hakeem Jeffries
Yes, without question. And in fact, I think the American people are demanding accountability. And we've made clear that there are two pillars upon which we will proceed. Affordability, driving down the high cost of living, making sure that people in this country who are working hard, they're playing by the rules, that they can actually live an affordable life, a comfortable life and a good life in an environment where far too many people are struggling to live, paycheck to paycheck can't thrive and can barely survive. That's unacceptable in America right now. The greatest country, the wealthiest country in the history of the world as well, at the same period of time. We need accountability. And that's not a partisan play. Right? That's not a party oriented play. That's not about what Democrats are trying to do. That's the patriotic approach. The framers of this country designed Congress to be a separate and co equal branch of government, to be a check and balance on an out of control executive branch. King Charles came to Congress and he made that point. He said executive power is subject to checks and balances. It goes all the way back to the Magna Carta. And so we absolutely are prepared to deliver accountability for those who are engaging in a crime spree in plain sight led by Donald Trump and the Trump cartel. And I've pointed out repeatedly to many of these wrongdoers who haven't been Given the type of immunity that the Supreme Court corruptly gave to Donald Trump, that these other wrongdoers should know the statute of limitations is five years. And when Democrats come to town, people should be prepared to testify and to explain to the American people how they can justify participating in one of the biggest pay to play schemes the country has ever seen being run by Donald Trump.
Ana Navarro
I have to tell you, I disagree with you. You say that it's not that accountability is not partisan, but when you have Republicans in the House and in the Senate who are afraid that if they do their constitutional duty of providing oversight, then Donald Trump will come after them in primary races and they will lose their jobs, when they are putting their positions over their duty, then it is, it has become partisan. If you, I mean people have got to know if you vote for Republicans, there's, there will not be accountability. There hasn't been for two years and there will continue to not be accountability. So if you are frustrated with what is happening, there's only one choice in my mind.
Hakeem Jeffries
You know, I'm in complete and total agreement. Listen, the Republicans have been sick offense in the House of Representatives, nothing but reckless rubber stamps for Donald Trump's extreme agenda. They're acting like wholly owned subsidiaries of the Trump cartel as opposed to behaving like a separate and co equal branch of government. And my only point is that, listen, as Democrats, yeah, we're going to deliver accountability, but that is not us being partisan, that's us being patriotic.
Ana Navarro
Yes, that I agree with. By the way, talking about, we were talking about Delaney in New Jersey. I gotta ask you something. Where the hell is Congressman Thomas Kaine from New Jersey? I mean, how is it possible that somebody doesn't show up to work to any job? Whether you are flipping burgers in hamburger and in McDonald's or whether you are co host on the View, whether you're in Congress. How does somebody not show up for three months, miss over 100 votes and there's no explanation?
Hakeem Jeffries
Yeah, it's an inexplicable situation. In fact, during my time in Congress, I'm in my seventh term now, I've never seen anything like this.
Ana Navarro
So you are a minority leader. Nobody's explained it to you. You have no idea where the hell this guy is and what's happening.
Hakeem Jeffries
Mike Johnson has had nothing to say about Tom Kaine Jr's absence. We've heard nothing from the Republican Majority leader, the Republican Majority Whip. There's no explanation provided. And it seems to me at minimum that Tom Kaine Jr. Should have something to say to the people that he represents in New Jersey, given all of the votes that have been missed, the lack of advocacy that's taking place, I wish him well. To be clear, if he's dealing with something serious, and it must be serious to be out for this period of time, we wish him well. But the people of the 7th congressional district in New Jersey are owed an explanation.
Ana Navarro
Shouldn't there be rules about this? You and I are old enough to remember when Republicans had a fit when Lloyd Austin, the former Secretary of Defense under Joe Biden, was missing for like a couple of days because he was having prostate surgery and they called that an abdication of duty. Shouldn't there be some rule, some rules that, that apply to people in Congress, that they should be transparent with the, with their. I mean, I feel that when you're in elected office, you give up certain privacy. You just do. Because you, you, you owe it to the people you represent.
Hakeem Jeffries
As you just said, that is something that should be done. We can do it by rule. It's something that Democrats will certainly look at in terms of making sure that we ensure the greatest level of transparency as it relates to people when there's a prolonged absence. And that's the reality of serving at this moment in time. We are representatives for the American people. We work for the people. They are our employers. And the reality is in the House of Representatives, we're on a two year employment contract. We got to go back to the people every two years and make our case as to why that employment contract should be renewed. And that, of course, should require the greatest level of transparency.
Ana Navarro
I want to ask you about something that I know is personal to you. Personal to you as Hakeem Jeffries, the American citizen, and personal to you as a member of Congress and in leadership. And it is what you have called the Supreme Court taking a blowtorch to voting rights. We're living through it in Florida right now, where the same day as the Supreme Court decision came down, Ron DeSantis ran to change the congressional districts in Florida. There is a congresswoman friend of mine who I've known for many, many years, a good Congresswoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Her district, she's been in office for decades. Her district was diffused into five other districts, and she's now running in what is traditionally an African American district. You haven't endorsed. But what are people to do? What are voters to do about something like this?
Hakeem Jeffries
Yeah. You know, what I've made clear is that this is a corrupt decision by a Supreme Court that's no longer interested in, in applying the facts, the law, the Constitution. They made that clear in their decision related to allowing Alabama to proceed with a map, that a three judge panel consisting of two judges appointed by Donald Trump and one judge appointed by Ronald Reagan declared to be racially discriminatory against African Americans. And then they just allowed it to proceed. So basically what is taking place right now is that the Supreme Court, far right conservative majority, they are behaving like they work for the partisan Republican Party. That's what their decisions are designed to do. At this point. They're gutting the Voting Rights act and unleashing these Jim Crow like tactics on communities in the Deep South.
Ana Navarro
But the white, usually white men I sit with, at least places like CNN who defend Trump, will say to me, well, wait, are you saying that a white man can't represent Latinos or African Americans? Are you saying that an African American can't represent a white citizen? So I just, I think that they completely missed the point. First because they want to miss it, but also because they have never had no representation, because they've never felt the wound of lack of representation, that they don't understand the importance. So how do you define the importance of representation?
Hakeem Jeffries
Well, every community, the black community, the Latino community, rural communities, throughout, women, women, Asian American community, they should all be allowed to elect the candidate of their choice in an unfettered way in a free and fair election. The reason for the Voting Rights act in the first place was because for decades African American communities have been systematically targeted to prevent African Americans from electing the candidate of their choice, breaking these communities apart, preventing people from being able to vote, playing all manner of games. In terms of registration, this is the backdrop to why the Voting Rights act was needed. The most important civil rights bill in the history of the country. And we of course, simply support the ability of every single American to choose who their representative should be, as opposed to partisan games being played in this instance by Donald Trump, facilitated by the Supreme Court, so that you've got elected officials, establishment Republicans, MAGA extremists, choosing the people that they want to serve in Congress as opposed to the people being able to choose who should represent them in the House of Representatives. That's what this is all about. Steve Cohen, whose district was just broken up, who represents the people of Memphis and was first elected in 2006, represents and has for 20 years one of the most African American districts in America. At some points, that district was more than 60% black. But Steve Cohen, who's white and Jewish and a great member of Congress. I served with him on the Judiciary Committee, has been repeatedly elected by the people of Memphis, but now they've broken his district up because they don't want to give the African Americans in Memphis the ability to elect someone like Steve Cohen or Harold Ford Sr. And Jr. Who preceded him. And that's the problem this session.
Ana Navarro
These last two years, these particular last few months, have been horrible when it comes to behavior by members of Congress. We saw Tony Gonzalez, Republican from Texas, who was having an affair with his district director, who ended up dousing herself with gasoline and dying by suicide. We saw Eric Swalwell in California, who had to drop out of the governor's race. And after horrible allegations, and it keeps happening. We are seeing allegations coming out against Graham Platner, who's running for the Senate in Maine. My question is, so this, this sexual harassment claims fund in Congress still exists, and there's still not full transparency after this? We are. In 2026, will there be full transparency under Hakeem Jeffries as to who has received these payments and who they were made to defend and on behalf of? I mean, this is taxpayer money.
Hakeem Jeffries
We believe in transparency and we believe in accountability. And clearly, the Congress, the House, has to do much more to create a workplace environment for the women on Capitol Hill and for everyone on Capitol Hill. But for the women on Capitol Hill in particular, that is free of harassment, free of intimidation, and free, certainly of violence in any way, shape or form.
Ana Navarro
How the hell can this be happening in 2026? The MeToo movement was over a decade ago. How can there be such hubris at this level? And at this point, I just don't get it.
Hakeem Jeffries
Back in 2017, 2018, there was some progress, and the broken system was improved in some ways, but there's clearly more work to be done. I'm thankful that the chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus, Congresswoman Teresa Aleja Fernandez, who represents Albuquerque and the great state of New Mexico, she is leading an effort that's now bipartisan to evaluate the entirety of the system, figure out where it's broken, and to make strong recommendations about the type of decisive action that needs to be taken so that we can get past the situation that we're in and ensure a workplace that treats every woman with dignity and respect.
Ana Navarro
I'm sure you get this question a ton, but I'm going to ask it anyways. I hear from all my Democratic friends, they hate Trump. They want Trump controlled, but they don't want the Democratic message to be, we hate Trump. They are fired up about there being accountability on Trump, but they feel this malaise and dissatisfaction with Democrats and what they call the lack of Democratic message. So, I mean, what is the Democratic message and what do people want? What is it that you need to give them that they need to hear? But you know what, and particularly I would ask you about Latino men and black men who left, a lot of them left the Democratic Party and voted for Trump in 2024. What are you doing to bring these guys back?
Hakeem Jeffries
Well, we're certainly in conversation with black and Latino men, working class folks all across the country, with younger Americans in particular, many of whom were Trump curious and voted for Donald Trump. They believed that he was going to drive down the high cost of living. In fact, Trump said he was going to lower costs on day one. The exact opposite has happened. But we understand Trump's been a disaster, his policies have been a disaster, and the economy is failing under Donald Trump. And everybody understands that right now. But at the same period of time, of course, we have to articulate an affirmative vision for making life better decisively for the American people. And we got to do it in a way that's authentic, so that everyday Americans know that we hear them, we see them, we feel them, and we are determined to make life better for them by lowering the high cost of living, fixing our broken health care system and cleaning up corruption. And so that vision for us really is captured by costs, by care, right? That's childcare, that's health care, that's elder care. And by cleaning up corruption, because we're dealing with the most corrupt administration in American history. These people, Donald Trump, he makes Richard Nixon look like a choir boy. And corruption doesn't simply benefit the people who are corrupting the system. It hurts everyday Americans. Because if Donald Trump and Republicans are focused right now on enriching themselves, their family members, their friends and their donors, then they're not focused on actually making life better for the American people. Our promise to everyday Americans, including black and Latino men, is that we know the system is broken. We know it's failed you. We know that you're working hard, you're playing by the rules, but you're unable to get ahead. And that's not America. And we need to decisively act to bring the American dream to life for you and for everybody in this great country.
Ana Navarro
We are very close now. We're just a few weeks away from the 250th birthday of America. There was a recent poll that said two out of three Republicans are feeling Pride in their country. One out of five. Only one out of five Democrats feels proud of their country. How does Hakeem Jeffries feel?
Hakeem Jeffries
I love America. I'm proud of America. It's a high honor and a distinct privilege for me to be part of this representative democracy, serve in this position. You know, having been raised in a working class neighborhood in central Brooklyn, coming of age in a difficult time for the community, the city, and the country in the midst of the crack cocaine epidemic, and now to have an opportunity to represent people back at home and to serve in this position. America is a great country, but we're not a perfect country. But what the framers did promise us was a march toward a more perfect union. And I love this country, but dislike what's happening in America right now and the extremism that Donald Trump has unleashed on the American people. The good news is this isn't a dictatorship. It is a democracy. And we've been gifted the ability to turn the situation around as long as we show up and stand up and speak up for what is right. And as John Lewis would have us do, go out there and get into some good trouble.
Ana Navarro
Thank you very much for having joined me today. I hope to see you again. I hope to see you in person, and I hope to see you become speaker of the House of Representatives.

Thank you for that great interview, Hakeem Jeffries. And before we go today, I want to break down an issue that has been making headlines. It's been making headlines because of Donald Trump's unfounded claims of election fraud in California. They have zero evidence. Trump and his cronies who have been echoing his claims of fraud have zero evidence to back up that there is any fraud in California. Listen, California has a very unique system. They take a long time to vote, but there is no evidence of fraud. And so here's what happened. Trump endorsed two candidates. There were a bunch of different races in California at the state level, the local level, congressional level. But there were two that really got a lot of attention. One was the mayor's race in la, where Karen Bass has advanced to the general and where Trump had advanced, had endorsed reality TV star Spencer Pratt. And in another race, which is the governor's race, Trump had endorsed has endorsed Steve Hilton, a Fox News contributor and right wing commentator. Okay, so what happened on election night? Spencer Pratt was in the number two spot, which would have meant that he would have gone on to the general. And Steve Hilton was in the number one spot in the governor's primary. Then as more votes continue to come in, Spencer Pratt lost the number two spot and is now not going to the general election. And Steve Hilton went from being number one to being number two. Javier Becerra won the primary election, the number one spot, and is going to a general election runoff in November against Steve Hilton. Trump, Elon Musk, Spencer Pratt and a bunch of other magazines have been out on media outlets on TV claiming that there is election fraud. So, okay, listen, this is what happens. Election fraud. Let's just understand this. Election fraud is extremely rare in the United States. The reported cases of fraud are less than 1%. Republicans, they had a lead in California in the mayor's race and in the governor's race. There's something in California that's called the red Mirage. What happens? Most Republican voters vote day of or vote early. Most Democratic voters vote by mail. Republicans don't vote by mail because Donald Trump has been saying now for years that voting by mail is fraud. And in California, they allow any ballot that has been postmarked on election day, they give it seven days to come in. So any ballots postmarked on election day or before are counted and they wait for ballots for seven days and then they count them. And so those are overwhelmingly Democratic voters. So yes, there was a big lead. And these usually change because Republicans vote in a different manner than Democrats vote. The Democratic ballots, millions of them, because we're talking about millions of ballots come in through the next seven days and are counted. And there are a lot of safeguards in California, they check every signature, they verify every mail in ballot, and that's why it takes that long. But there is no indication, no reason to believe that there was fraud. In fact, if there was fraud, the question would be then why in the hell did the Trump endorse candidate Steve Hilton come in number two, he's going to go to the general election. You see, so this, this claim, this bullshit claim makes zero sense because what, what did Californians do? Commit fraud on the mayor's race, but not commit fraud on the primary governor's race. So yes, the Trump candidate lost for mayor of la, but the Trump candidate advanced to the general election in the primary for governor. So you can't have it both ways. You can't say that there was fraud when it comes to the mayoral race, but not fraud when it comes to the governor's primary race. In fact, Steve Hilton, the Trump endorsed candidate himself, has been out there saying that there is no fraud. And let me just say the Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer, who came in number three for the governor's primary, has said that democracy worked and that he was gonna give time for democracy to work. But why is this important? The reason this is important is because this is just the latest attempt by Trump to suppress the vote, to call into question the integrity of elections, to depress the vote by making Americans believe that voting doesn't matter and that elections are corrupt. We have seen them go in and gerrymander and draw new districts in places like Texas, like Alabama, we have seen them claim that mail in ballots are fraudulent. We have seen them claim election fraud. In California, we are now seeing some sort of cockamamie attempt where they are threatening that the US Postal Service will not deliver, will not agree to deliver mail in ballots in the states that do not share their voter rolls with them. We have seen them do things like going to Georgia to confiscate the ballots from the 2020 elections. All of these are attempts to keep the voter fraud claim in the headlines for two reasons. Number one is because Donald Trump will never acknowledge, will never accept that he legitimately and Fairly lost the 2020 elections. He'll just never get over it. He's never going to accept it. And number two, because he wants to make you, the American voter, believe that voting is tainted and rigged so that when he loses the House in November and maybe the Senate, he can claim that it was a rigged election and he can keep Americans from going to the ballot and voting because they think, you know, what's the point if it's corrupt? If it's rigged, what's the point of going out and voting? Folks, do not believe this narrative. Do not take the bait. Do not buy this bullshit. I believe that this is going to backfire on Trump. I think people, Americans, are too smart to believe this and they're going to come out of every nook and cranny to vote in November and Trump and his cronies are going to be in for a big, big wake up call. Anyways, that's it for BLEEP this week. Thank you for tuning in. As always, I ask you to leave me comments and replies. I'm reading them all and I so appreciate you listening and watching. Thank you. Episode: Hakeem Jeffries on the ICE Package, Voting Rights & the Fight for 2026
Host: Ana Navarro
Guest: Hakeem Jeffries, House Minority Leader
Date: June 15, 2026
This episode of Bleep! with Ana Navarro focuses on pressing political issues as the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary. Ana Navarro holds a substantive interview with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, discussing the controversial $70 billion ICE funding package, immigration detention crises, voting rights amid Supreme Court actions, congressional accountability, the Democratic message heading into 2026, and the persistent threat of election disinformation. The conversations are candid, emotional, and deeply informed by current American political realities.
(02:32 – 10:00)
Albanian Development Controversy:
Navarro criticizes Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s $4B luxury development plan on Albania’s Sazan Island, disrupting locals and the ecosystem.
“She had the gall to say she discovered the island like she was some sort of Magellan ... the fucking island has been there for thousands of years, people.” (Ana Navarro, 03:52)
Extravagance and Disconnect:
Navarro points out Ivanka Trump's privileged lifestyle and detachment from ordinary Americans' struggles, referencing her podcast appearance and routines.
Trump’s Ties to UFC & Commercialization:
Navarro exposes the commercialization of the U.S. 250th anniversary via Trump’s UFC investments and a Trump-UFC commemorative coin—marked up drastically for profit.
“There is no better way to celebrate Americans' freedom than putting Trump's mug, his ugly mug on everything.” (Ana Navarro, 06:12)
ICE Funding and Political Maneuvering:
Republicans pass a $70B, multi-year ICE funding bill along party lines; Navarro calls out this move as a power play to avoid future Democratic oversight.
“Yes, let’s fine $70 billion to give to ICE so they can terrorize American citizens and immigrants.” (Ana Navarro, 10:45)
(15:47 – 19:42)
Navarro’s Question:
Why is an enormous ICE funding package advancing, with an opaque $1.8B “anti-weaponization” fund, despite lacking support for healthcare, SNAP, or farm subsidies?
Jeffries’ Explanation:
“ICE is completely and totally out of control ... taxpayer dollars should not be used to brutalize or kill American citizens, which is what ICE has done ... we’re not giving a dime to Donald Trump’s violent mass deportation machine.” (Hakeem Jeffries, 17:40)
(19:42 – 23:36)
Delaney & Dilley Detention Centers:
Jeffries recounts his recent visit to Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark:
“Not a single violent criminal was in that detention center ... I spoke to teenage girls as young as 18, one of whom was just a month away from graduation ... ripped away from her family, her community, her high school.” (Hakeem Jeffries, 20:28)
Profit-driven Detention:
“This is how our taxpayer dollars is being spent ... as opposed to actually trying to drive down the high cost of living, making health care affordable ...” (Jeffries, 22:46)
(23:36 – 27:49)
Navarro’s Challenge:
Can Democrats hold Trump officials accountable if they win back the House?
Jeffries’ Response:
“We need accountability ... the framers of this country designed Congress to be a separate and co-equal branch of government, to be a check and balance on an out-of-control executive branch.” (Jeffries, 24:34)
Argues that accountability transcends partisanship:
“That’s not us being partisan, that’s us being patriotic.” (Jeffries, 27:19)
Reminds listeners: statutes of limitations are five years; wrongdoers should be prepared to answer for their actions.
(27:49 – 30:50)
Where is Rep. Tom Kean Jr.?
Navarro points out the mysterious, lengthy absence of Rep. Tom Kean (NJ-7), who missed over 100 votes with no public explanation.
Jeffries calls for reform:
“We are representatives ... we work for the people ... that should require the greatest level of transparency.” (Jeffries, 30:00)
(30:50 – 35:49)
Supreme Court undermining Voting Rights Act:
“This is a corrupt decision by a Supreme Court that’s no longer interested in ... the Constitution.” (Jeffries, 31:46)
Representation Matters:
Both discuss that representation isn't about race alone but about allowing all communities to choose their own leaders.
“Every community ... should all be allowed to elect the candidate of their choice in an unfettered way in a free and fair election.” (Jeffries, 33:21)
(35:49 – 38:26)
Recurring sexual harassment scandals:
“We believe in transparency and we believe in accountability. Clearly, the Congress ... has to do much more to create a workplace ... free of harassment, free of intimidation.” (Jeffries, 36:53)
Democratic Women's Caucus Task Force:
Jeffries notes ongoing bipartisan evaluations to rectify the congressional harassment claims fund.
(38:26 – 41:11)
Navarro Asks:
How does the Democratic Party reinspire Latino and Black men who voted Trump in 2024? What’s the affirmative message beyond “not Trump”?
Jeffries’ Rebuttal:
“We understand Trump’s been a disaster ... but we have to articulate an affirmative vision for making life better ... by lowering the high cost of living, fixing our broken health care system and cleaning up corruption.” (Jeffries, 39:14)
(41:11 – 42:43)
National Mood Polls:
Navarro notes a poll showing only 1 in 5 Democrats currently expresses pride in America.
Jeffries’ Perspective:
“I love America ... we've been gifted the ability to turn the situation around as long as we show up and stand up and speak up for what is right. And as John Lewis would have us do, go out there and get into some good trouble.” (Jeffries, 41:32)
(46:49 – 54:26)
Navarro’s Breakdown:
Navarro debunks Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud in California, explaining the “red mirage” due to vote-by-mail counting and state rules.
“Election fraud is extremely rare in the United States. The reported cases of fraud are less than 1%.” (Ana Navarro, 47:34)
“All of these are attempts to keep the voter fraud claim in the headlines ... because Donald Trump will never acknowledge, will never accept that he legitimately and fairly lost the 2020 elections.” (Navarro, 49:30)
“Do not believe this narrative. Do not take the bait. Do not buy this bullshit ... I believe this is going to backfire on Trump.” (Navarro, 53:11)
On the ICE Package:
“Taxpayer dollars should not be used to brutalize or kill American citizens, which is what ICE has done ... we’re not giving a dime to Donald Trump’s violent mass deportation machine.”
— Hakeem Jeffries (17:40)
On Congressional Accountability:
“We absolutely are prepared to deliver accountability for those who are engaging in a crime spree in plain sight led by Donald Trump and the Trump cartel.”
— Hakeem Jeffries (24:34)
On Representation:
“Every community ... should all be allowed to elect the candidate of their choice in an unfettered way in a free and fair election.”
— Hakeem Jeffries (33:21)
On the Democratic Message:
“Our promise to everyday Americans ... is that we know the system is broken. We know it’s failed you ... and that’s not America.”
— Hakeem Jeffries (40:22)
On Voter Suppression:
“All of these are attempts to keep the voter fraud claim in the headlines for two reasons ... Donald Trump will never acknowledge, will never accept that he legitimately and fairly lost the 2020 elections ... and ... he wants to make you, the American voter, believe that voting is tainted and rigged so ... you don’t go out and vote.”
— Ana Navarro (49:30)
The dialogue is frank, urgent, often emotional and unfiltered—especially from Ana Navarro—devoted to transparency, accountability, and action. Jeffries maintains a measured, but passionate, tone.
This summary should offer all listeners—whether or not they heard the episode—a clear, comprehensive, and engaging overview of the discussion, including all critical themes and insights.
