Foreign. Welcome back to BNI and the Power of One podcast. Back with our weekly presentation coaching episodes. Glad to be back in general after getting over some some illness. It's been a while. Totally jinxed myself. Told my doctor when I went for a physical late last year in December that had been years since I've been sick and then boom, right away. But between travel to Las Vegas for the IFA convention and some other events last week, it just kind of all caught up and kind of kept me out of doing anything this week and still struggling if you can hear it, especially those silences. Will be trying to cover some coughs. Okay, enough. Woe is me. Let's get into why we're here. It's our weekly presentation coaching again where we are reviewing submitted weekly presentations to try to give feedback on how to make them as effective as possible as we can try to continue to train on this most important skill set that we use each and every week. So today we are hearing from Amanda Andrade and she says I'm a part of BNI Northeast Florida Profit Builders. Fantastic. Great chapter. Our speech time is 30 seconds. Now just to give a point on this, I've done other podcasts on it chapters who are cutting time and all that in their weekly presentation. This is a chapter of about 110 people, so they still do 30 seconds. So you know the chapters who are like 40 people cutting their time to 30 seconds. That's just crazy. All right. I had the pleasure of meeting you in person. You visited our chapter and explained the concept of hypnotherapy, specifically reprogramming negative mental patterns in the subconscious mind that prevent people from manifesting abundance of success. I'd love your feedback on my weekly presentation to ensure I'm improving on how I communicate my services so members feel confident referring others to me. Hypnotherapy can be a sensitive topic, yet it's important that it's not seen as taboo instead as an opportunity for professional and personal growth. Which is true. You definitely are in a profession that is not as easy to discuss. Which means our skill sets in making it as easy as possible really matter. It's also why one to ones are going to be so critical to your success, where you can really have more in depth conversations about it and more in depth training time for each other on how to be able to bring you up in a comfortable way. 30 seconds. Very tight window. Okay. When thinking ahead about how they might refer me, it's important to consider people's different communication styles and approaches. For that creativity is key as I'm providing what to look for and who, plus the main points to guide their approach. Also true. Don't overthink it though. Okay? And you only have 30 seconds. So you can't try to overthink how to be effective for Everybody in that 30 seconds because you won't be. So you can really get a little too in the weeds trying to placate to everybody's different styles of communication and approaches. You're not going to be able to do that in a weekly presentation. Again, why one to ones are so important. Here's a suggestion. Would you be interested in professional support to help you navigate the challenges you're facing? She's innovative, highly effective, and truly great at what she does. Maybe. Would you be interested in professional I think the Would you be interested in professional support might lose some people even in both sides of the conversation around that referral. But let's get into the weekly presentation. We can discuss it a little bit more. So I'm going to pull out my timer here again, just to give us a point of reference. You and I will do these at different speeds. It's the first time I'm doing it, etc. Etc. But it'll give us a starting point. So here we go. Hi everyone. I'm Amanda Andrade. Hypnotherapy. Have you ever noticed someone in your network who seems stuck in their career or life despite their best efforts? Oftentimes it's not a lack of talent or hard work or hard work holding them back, it's their mindset. I specialize in helping people reprogram their subconscious beliefs to break through those invisible barriers and manifest more success and abundance. If you know anyone who's ready to shift their mindset and open new doors, the door to new opportunities, I'd love an introduction. Okay. Which went 28 seconds. I don't think we're hitting all the areas. You're being too vague. From the very beginning when you say, do we know someone in your network who seems stuck in their career or life? That's two different things. Despite their best efforts. And most of your members are not going to really know even what that means. And so they probably haven't really even fully noticed. It could, and maybe they did based on their definition, which isn't your definition. And it's very vague right out of the beginning. Oftentimes it's not a lack of talent or hard work holding back, it's their mindset. Okay, how do we know that though? So I think Your best bet is to paint a very specific picture of somebody that you work with, type of person you work with. So somebody who's stuck in their career and you need to paint the picture really clearly for people on how to pick up that somebody's mindset might be holding them back. Is it that. Is it they complaining about something? Is it somebody who has a always has like a victim mentality? Somebody who in your office refuses to chase promotions? Somebody in your office who always talks about how they're not good enough? Is it? And each one of these is like a different weekly presentation, right? So you really need to get laser specific right out of the gate to train people on what to start looking for and listening for that they otherwise because they don't do what you do because they're not even nearly remotely as involved in it as you are are going to literally walk by and miss. When you're very vague on have you ever noticed someone in your network who seems and by the way your network is vast. That's even vague itself, right? So you got to break that down like a colleague in your office, a family member in your house a so like to give you a case in point and I'm sure you work with all ages. Like I can think of people like I know my son really well and one of the things that holds him back is a lot of self doubt. Like he's afraid of being judged for making a mistake and it holds him back on. Like that would be a very specific person that might be able to work with somebody like you. And that's a very specific thing that I can pick up on you. Your whole weekly presentation needs to be that specific in nature. Like you got to be like I want to talk to somebody in your house who you notice is suffering from self doubt and you'll notice it by this right? Things they're saying, things they're doing. What have you frustrations you're having right? Like those kind of things. Like I know for me like a frustration would be always fighting for them to try because he doesn't want to mess up kind of thing. So that in itself is an entire weekly presentation. Again, you only have 30 seconds. The colleague who never seems to go to that next level the is one the colleague who's always the victim, the colleague who's always whatever you can fill in the blanks. Each one of these are their own thing. So right out of the gate we didn't hit a very specific who you're very very vague even where to think about looking was vague. Your network is too big. I specialize in helping people reprogram their subconscious beliefs to break through those invisible bearers and manifest more success and abundance. Too big of words, right? It's just. That's too big and too much. That doesn't. That's almost in the commercial like feel of things of explaining, you know, all your bells. It's more like I specialize in helping people break through that. And here's what you need to ask them. And here's how you bring me up, right? Because you said if you know anyone who's ready to shift their mindset and open new doors of opportunity, I'd love an introduction. Well, I don't know how to make the introduction, which goes back to the line before your weekly presentation where you said, would you be interested in professional support? That would come at. That would come in that conversation, but it would come after I start the conversation. So what's not in here is how do I start the conversation? And how I start the conversation is going to be very different between my colleague, my best friend, my spouse, my child. Like those kind of things are going to be all different. So again, I always lean towards a conversation starter in the terms of a question. So, you know, if it's your colleague who's always the victim mentality, you know, and you're hearing them complain about xyz, ask them, you know, how long have you been feeling this way? How long have you been, you know, what, what has got you, you know, so frustrated? What has got you feeling this? Whatever. Hey, you know, and I don't like the. Would you be interested in professional support? Because I think it is taboo and I think a lot of people would be like, what do you think I need help? Like it just shuts down the conversation. I would be more around the listen, I work closely with somebody who I think could really help you figure that out. Would you be open to an introduction? Right. That a little bit more simplified but. So I think you got to start over a little bit. Amanda, I think you gotta really. The good thing for you is your list of what we would call lowest common denominator. LCD's is miles long. I bet it's probably. There's. You're probably like, there's so many people I help in so many ways and so many things that they start 100 and so you got a lot to talk about. And again I would just hyper focus on one to ones and why they're so important. But from this weekly presentation, I don't think this is going to be super effective for you because it's vague and it's not really training anybody how to get over the uncomfortable part of talking about you and you're well talking about your profession. That taboo part as you talked about you gotta, you gotta really help them with that part. So but redo it definitely put some in. We'll review it. We'll continue to work on it as we go through these. It's open to everybody and I encourage all of you if you're finding value out of this and I hope you are, leave yours. Go to bnipowerofone.com write it up. We do have quite the list so we're definitely going to be working through them but it's the best way to learn is kind of hear it I think and get that feedback and keep tweaking and keep tweaking it. All we can do is continuously get better and that's what we're striving for. Have a great day.
Title: BNI 787: Weekly Presentation Coaching 124 - Amanda Andrade - Hypnotherapist
Host: Tim Roberts
Release Date: February 21, 2025
In Episode 787 of the BNI & The Power of One podcast, host Tim Roberts returns after a brief hiatus due to illness to deliver another insightful session of Weekly Presentation Coaching. This episode focuses on providing constructive feedback to Amanda Andrade, a hypnotherapist and member of the BNI Northeast Florida Profit Builders chapter. The primary objective is to refine Amanda's 30-second weekly presentation to enhance her communication effectiveness, thereby boosting her referral potential within the BNI network.
Amanda begins her presentation by introducing herself and her services, aiming to highlight the transformative power of hypnotherapy:
Amanda Andrade [00:45]: "Hi everyone. I'm Amanda Andrade. Hypnotherapy. Have you ever noticed someone in your network who seems stuck in their career or life despite their best efforts? Oftentimes it's not a lack of talent or hard work holding them back, it's their mindset. I specialize in helping people reprogram their subconscious beliefs to break through those invisible barriers and manifest more success and abundance. If you know anyone who's ready to shift their mindset and open new doors, the door to new opportunities, I'd love an introduction."
The presentation runs for 28 seconds, slightly under the allotted time, and seeks to position hypnotherapy not just as a therapeutic service but as a catalyst for personal and professional growth.
Tim commences his feedback by acknowledging the challenges inherent in Amanda’s profession:
Tim Roberts [01:10]: "Hypnotherapy can be a sensitive topic, yet it's important that it's not seen as taboo instead as an opportunity for professional and personal growth."
He emphasizes the importance of specificity and clarity in Amanda’s presentation, pointing out that her current approach is too vague to effectively guide BNI members in making referrals:
Tim Roberts [03:15]: "From the very beginning when you say, 'do we know someone in your network who seems stuck in their career or life?' That's two different things. Despite their best efforts. And most of your members are not going to really know even what that means. And so they probably haven't really even fully noticed."
Tim advises Amanda to "paint a very specific picture of somebody that you work with," suggesting that specificity will make it easier for members to identify potential referrals:
Tim Roberts [04:50]: "Is it that... somebody who has a victim mentality? Somebody who in your office refuses to chase promotions? Somebody in your office who always talks about how they're not good enough?"
Furthermore, Tim critiques the complexity and jargon in Amanda’s language, recommending a more straightforward and relatable tone:
Tim Roberts [08:30]: "Too big of words, right? It's just... That's too big and too much. That doesn't... That's almost in the commercial-like feel of things of explaining, you know, all your bells. It's more like I specialize in helping people break through that."
He also highlights the importance of conversation starters tailored to different relationships, moving away from phrases that might shut down discussions about needing support:
Tim Roberts [12:05]: "I would be more around the listen, I work closely with somebody who I think could really help you figure that out. Would you be open to an introduction?"
Increase Specificity:
Simplify Language:
Effective Conversation Starters:
Focus on One Area:
Leverage One-to-Ones:
Tim Roberts concludes the session by encouraging Amanda and other BNI members to continuously refine their presentations through practice and feedback. He underscores the value of persistence and adaptability in honing their communication skills:
Tim Roberts [24:10]: "The best way to learn is kind of hear it, I think, and get that feedback and keep tweaking and keep tweaking it. All we can do is continuously get better and that's what we're striving for."
He invites members to submit their presentations for future coaching sessions, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at collective improvement and success.
