Although credit unions have been able to provide mortgages for a few years. They only account for a fraction of the home loan market. Do the credit unions even have the money to lend if demand were to take off. What role will they play when the new tax efficient personal investment accounts are introduced next year? A report from Fordel Wealth Management suggests that households are forgoing €3.5bn worth of earnings every year by keeping vast amounts of the disposable cash in low yield accounts. The report says the nation is becoming more equal with the bottom 50% of households growing their wealth at 14% per annum. Joe discusses the report findings further with Stephen Felle the Chief Executive of Fordel Wealth Management.

Inflation expectations have risen notably thanks to the war in Iran but domestic demand will continue to grow at a sustainable pace. These are the views of the Central bank of Ireland in its latest quarterly bulletin. It says that if oil and gas prices remain high, inflation could reach 5% this year. Martin O’Brien Head of Irish Economic Analysis with the Central Bank explains these findings.

Ten years ago this weekend, British citizens voted to leave the EU. Irish people living there had a vote but all other European citizens had no vote. Instead of voting for something specific the UK began a torturous process of divorce which in many ways continues today. A trickle of tankers have started shipping oil through the infamous Straits of Hormuz pushing down oil prices. David Roche the founder of Quantum Strategies says even if they ramp up quickly there’ll still be a shortfall of 11 million barrels a day from the Middle East.
