C
We're your hosts, Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins. Welcome back to Breaking Beauty Podcast, everyone. I'm one of your co hosts, Jill Dunn. I'm sitting here alongside Carlene Higgins.
B
Hi, Jill.
C
You're so cozy looking today.
B
So are you.
C
I'm very, very jealous of your turtleneck and sweater situation.
B
All right, well, we'll. We're a podcast, of course. So I'm wearing a leopard turtleneck.
C
Yeah.
B
With a quarter zip sweater.
C
Quarter zip Life right now.
B
Yeah. It's all about the quarter zip. And we are both wearing our matching suede Boston.
C
I think we wear these every.
B
These are like uniform for podcasts for us anyway. Yes, we wear these all the time.
C
It's as cozy as we get around here. But welcome to the show. If you're new to the show, we are two longtime magazine beauty editors turned beauty podc. We have been in your feeds for nine years at this point, sharing the breakthrough people, products and moments in beauty.
B
We've had everyone from HAILEY Bieber to Dr. Pimple Popper Way back recently.
C
Another big celeb guest coming up very soon too.
B
Yes, indeed. But people love our product review episodes and that's what we have on deck for today. But first, a psa.
C
I want to let everybody know you need to stay tuned to our Instagram, which is at Breaking Beauty podcast, because in the month of March, we're doing not one, but two live podcast events.
B
Yes.
C
We can't share all the details here right now, but rest assured, it's going to be worth it. We're going to invite our audience. One is in Brooklyn, one is right here in Toronto. And it's going to be great conversations and just a time for us to be together. Because I think being together in this crazy world is what's giving me joy right now.
B
Absolutely. Feel free to wear your Birkenstock Boston and your favorite lip gloss and we will bond together with our Breaking Beauty audience now. But we love seeing you guys in person, so come on out.
C
Yes. So today we are doing one of our hashtag damn good episodes. This is where we are surveying the market, putting on our editor hats and letting you know what's worth your money. And every February, we do a budget beauty episode. And of all of the products that we're talking about today, nothing is more than $30. Woohoo. And you and I, a little behind the scenes, we were chatting about this episode and I was like, it's got to be less than $30. You're like, Girl, you're killing me.
B
Well, it's tough because.
C
Yeah.
B
So again, if you're new around here, we are a North American beauty podcast.
C
Yes.
B
We've been that way from day one. So we always talk about products in US Dollars and in Canadian dollars as well. So keeping it under 30 in Canadian dollars as well was.
C
But we did it.
B
And we're even covering the gamut from makeup to skincare to fragrance today.
C
Yeah. We have so many exciting things. So we've got dupes. We've got K beauty. We have.
B
We have red carpet budget beauty, because we saw a lot of that at.
A
The Grammys not so long ago.
C
And if you're looking to get that flush going for Valentine's Day, we have some hot new viral blushes. We are testing tons of lip products because we know the limit does not exist with lip care and lips products. So if you're getting ready to smooch someone for Valentine's Day, we've got you covered.
B
Absolutely. So let's jump into it. We're going to start with everybody's favorite category, Skin care.
C
Okay. Carlene, I'm curious what you were able to find that you love for less than 30 bucks in the skincare world, because you are. Well, you're a skincare founder first of all now, but you are also, you know, everybody@cassattbeauty.com. yes, exactly. We have a whole episode about that, too. Check it out.
B
Yes. So I found a couple of really big innovations that I am so excited to share with everybody. So the first one up is the bubble soft swerve barrier restore bomb. It's 18.99 US 26.99 in Canada. Such a great price point. And it just launched. It's fresh off The Press. Launched February 1st. So bubble skincare. Jill, you and I have talked about this line. I tend to think of it as being one of the leading Gen Z or Gen Z skin care brands. But, Jill, you went to an event with the founder, and you actually mentioned that the standard for this product is meant to live up to mature skin types as well. Is that right?
C
Yeah, I think they're absolutely going after that because you saw last year, who did they sign? Leighton Meester as the face.
B
That's true.
C
So the founder. Just. Just a little sidebar here. I had a dinner, had dinner with her about a year ago, and she stood up in front of the whole group of beauty editors and was basically like, try this for yourself on Your own skin. She was talking about the whole range. Right. And she's like, if you don't find something that you love, I will literally come back to Toronto and buy you dinner at your favorite restaurant here. And I can tell you not a lot of founders have done that.
B
Exactly. So, you know, don't discount this. If you're not Gen Z. I'm not. And so what this product is, it's a transformative balm to oil is how they're describing it. For dry, flaky or damaged skin. It's perfect for our Canadian winters or if you, if you're in New York.
C
US as well, deep freeze this winter.
B
Even like Nashville, because it prevents that trans epidermal water loss. Right. So that's really the best kind of seal that's going to keep your natural moisture in and prevent that dry out. Now, Jill, last time we did a damn goods in January, we talked about our favorite beauty sleep staples and I talked about this packaging innovation where it's called the grind. And you twist the top and the formula inside comes out in these soft, delicate petals and it prevents you.
C
It's almost like shaving it off.
B
Yeah. It's like a pepper grinder.
C
Yes. Yeah.
B
But it comes out the top and it's a cream. So do you want to try it?
C
Yeah, sure.
B
And so much more hygienic this way. It is because you're not sticking your fingers in it. So we had seen that with cleansing balms. Now we're seeing it with a skincare bomb, which is so great.
C
And that is rich.
B
It is very, very rich. So when you put it on your skin, it is white like this. What this is giving me is flashbacks from the 1980s. That's how old I am of Noxzema.
C
Right.
B
And Nivea.
C
Nivea cream for sure.
B
It's that kind of stark white.
A
Yeah.
B
Now as it melts into your skin, it does go to a see through to. It just starts out and then it kind of breaks. This product is considered a recovery balm. It's meant to be used in very cold weather or if you've over exfoliated and you want to recover. Now, some people on TikTok and all of that, some viral creators are using it on different areas of their body, like cracked elbows and knees because maybe it's a little too heavy for their skin. Now what I would say for myself, I have been using it on my face, but again, I am Gen X.
C
Yes.
B
So my skin can handle it. And I haven't had any breakouts My skin's looked great in the morning.
A
I appreciate that.
B
I think what some people will be surprised to know is that it is considered non comedogenic. But I think, Jill, you and I have talked about this in the past. The individual ingredients probably are non comedogenic. But in this format, there are still going to be oily skinned people who probably are not going to want to use it on their face or use it at certain times. Like, ski care is a new term we're starting to see now a play on skincare. And this is a real life example. My son just went across country skiing yesterday and I was like, you need to coat your face and your elbows and your hands and everything because he.
A
Has such bad eczema.
B
I think this is the perfect product to use as ski care. This one uses Squalene shea butter and Candelia wax as their plant based lipids. So it is, in my opinion, like a modern day version of Anivia.
C
Yeah.
B
Kind of a little bit of an elevated. It also has glycerin and magnesium sulfate.
C
Right. Yeah. Well, I'm actually kind of shocked based on how much of a balm it is that they can do that quote unquote, shaving.
B
Yes.
C
Because it's. You would almost think that it would be too rich to shave it or.
B
It would, but that's how rich it is. It's basically like a solid.
C
Yeah, exactly. So I think that that's a really cool innov.
B
I think the fact that it goes to clear. I mean, again, I'm lighter on the Fitzpatrick scale, but I really don't detect a. A tint now after it melts in. So. Yeah, love it.
C
I think it's kind of like. Yeah, like Anivea cream is a. Plenty of, you know, across all skin tones. People love that, you know. Exactly. Similar idea. Sara.
D
Beauty is one of our show partners this week. If you're all about less is more when it comes to beauty, you have to check out Merit. Merit is a minimalist beauty brand that makes elevated makeup and skincare designed to help you look put together in mere minutes. And Merit's bestsellers are proof that less really is more. For instance, the flush bomb. You might have seen it on social media. It's this cute dome shaped little applicator. It gives you this natural, healthy feel. Flush. It's really pretty on the skin. And one was sold every 30 seconds in 2024. That's how much people love it. And of course, there's the minimalist, which works double duty as both A foundation and a concealer so you get quick coverage without layering on a bunch of products. It comes in like a chubby pencil applicator. So it's really easy to put on even if you're on the go. And if it's a no makeup day, no problem. Merit's great Skin Serum is all you need. It instantly plumps and hydrates and gives you sort of like a dewy skin glow. And my favorite product that I've recently tried from the brand is their signature lip blush. It's a lightweight lip blush balm. I would say it's sheer, it's matte, it's lightweight, buildable, gives you this sheer wash of color and it's very comfortable on the lips. And I just feel like with Merit, their color curation is so on point.
C
It's very, very good.
D
And so check those out as well. And if you want to check it out for yourself. Right now, Merit Beauty is offering our listeners their signature makeup bag with your first order at merit beau that's n e r I t beauty.com to get your free signature makeup bag with your first order. Once again, Merit Beauty.com to get their free signature makeup bag with your first order. Will link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show.

There's so much more I want to share with you. Thanks for listening and make sure to subscribe to Shenanigans to stay up to date with new episodes every Friday.
B
What about you, Jill?
C
I want to shout out a couple of things. First one that I've fallen in love with, that I think is just good shower staple because it's for the face and for the body. And it's the Coco kind, milky soft face and body cleanser. It's a non stripping milky gel. And I think a few years ago, glossier stands might have recalled. What was it called? Milky cleanser.
B
Jelly Cleanser.
C
Jelly Milky cleanser. They went there first. Right. But the thing was, I pro, it was small and I probably wouldn't have gone, I wouldn't have been like, oh, it's, I would have been like, it's too precious to use on my body. But this I'm loving as like a one and done in the shower. It's 18 USD and it's around 22 in Canada. And I just find that it does a really good job of. I think it does a better job than most of taking out makeup with this milky kind of texture. Sometimes I feel as though it doesn't always do the job. Like, for instance, with glossier's one, I often had to do a double cleanse with this one. I feel like they've kind of improved on that idea. I just love that it's giant. It's 400 milliliters.
B
Yeah.
C
Which is pretty. Yeah.
D
Significant.
C
Anything that's eliminating a step in the shower is. I'm a fan of that, so I wanted to shout that out. Secondly, I wanted to talk about Medicube, because we can't talk in 2026 about skincare without talking about Metacube.
B
Right.
C
This brand is the moment. Yeah. I mean, they had a booth at ces, which is the Consumer Electronics Show. Like, that is where l' Oreal is playing. Like they are there saying, we are the biggest innovators in skincare and in beauty. So a product that I tried from them is the Medicube pdrn, which is the Salmon Spurn PDRN pink peptide serum. This is 21 USD and $25 in Canada.
B
Okay.
C
And I think that this is it really. It's all about clarity, textures, that glass skin. It's got niacinamide in there, it has peptides, it has hyaluronic acid, and it feels really soothing on the skin. I would say this is a dupe almost for a Medicaid style Niacinamide serum that I already know and love. Even though this one is pink and this one is scented, that is the con.
B
Oh, yeah, it's quite scented of.
C
Of this product. But I find that it's really good for fading hyperpigmentation marks. It does give you a glow because it has that instant plumping with the hyaluronic acid. But over time, the peptides are working on the fine lines. And yeah, I would say the biggest con for me is that it's not fragrance free.
B
Yeah, I agree.
A
You know, it feels very hydrating on my hand, though.
C
Very hydrating. Now, I want to. I want to say that that came out in the fall of last year, but because Medicube has just rolled into Ulta, a lot of people are just discovering the brand for the first time. So this I would recommend.
B
Well, this is probably the most exciting product that I want to talk about of the day.
C
Love it.
B
This is the ordinary R lipids plus ectoin micro emulsion. It is 13 US $17.80 in Canada. I'm holding it up here. It's one of the Ordinary's classic dropper type of bottles. And my first thought when I opened it, I thought, great, another milky toner. Of course, they already have a milky toner which is exfoliating. I was like, why do we need another milky toner? Enough already. But what I realized as I started reading more about it is that this is not a milky. This is a milky moisturizer.
C
Yes. And I'm getting. All I'm getting is served ads for this product.
B
So when you try it, the texture is almost identical to their milky toner. It is watery milk. It is like skim milk.
C
Yeah.
B
But when you actually apply it to your face, you can feel the difference. When it kind of dries down, it feels like, like a priming moisturizer the way that it has landed on your face. So this is a micro emulsion. If you're familiar with emulsions, they tend to be more of like a milky thinner consistency. I think they're amazing for acneic skin.
C
Yeah.
B
Oily skin types because it's just not so thick, just like we've been talking about. But this is truly the thinnest one I've ever seen. And that's why it's called a micro emulsion. So it uses what's called a micro fluidization. This is a high pressure mixing method to turn heavy oils into a milky water, like fluid. So it's very innovative. And so what happens is that you get a soft focus look without any kind of greasy look that you would get from a more emollient type of formula. So this is truly a godsend for so many people who do have oily skin, but they still need moisture. We talk about this over and over again as a topic. It's because of this new technology that with these rice lipids, it actually dries down into more of a matte soft focus finish.
C
Safe to say you'll be finishing this one, emptying this one.
B
Absolutely. The when you think about the price point, I think that this is an incredible buy. It has ectoin, which is like the ingredient of the year. I feel like this is taking over niacinamide. This is considered be like an anti stress molecule. It's really known for hydration and soothing. What I want to say from my personal experience, this is I did a test where on one hand I Used the this thick balm. On one hand, my hands are extremely dry, and I used the Ordinary's new rice lipids and ectoin micro emulsion. On the other hand, I went to bed, and when I woke up and compared them, I felt like the old side with the ordinary was more moisturized and less dry. In an overnight test, you need to run stars across the board.
C
Love it.
B
I would say let's get into makeup.
C
Love it.
B
Lips has been such a big category. We know anything to do with lip masks. Lip gloss is like every brand launched this last year. Is there anything that's worth talking about that's a standout on the budget front?
C
Okay. So, yes. I was excited to learn about this launch. And it's from Laneige, the Lineage Juice Pop Lip Oil Stain 12 Hour Hydrating Tint. Now it's US$23, and it is 31 in Canada. I am sorry about going a dollar over. You're gonna say, jill, that's not cheap. What are you talking about? Guys, I went to a drugstore the other day. Some Revlon ones are $23. So I'm just saying that's why this is included in a budget episode.
B
Okay.
C
The packaging is very cute. Adorable. It has. It's meant to look like a little, I would say, mini boombox. And it has a little hook on the top so you can wear this as a bag charm. And it's very durable because of that. It has a doe foot applicator. Feel free to swatch it, Carlene.
A
I sure will.
C
And the texture is very k beauty.
B
Very.
C
It glides on beautifully. It's not drying at all. And they do have a scent. They're like bubble gummy, kind of.
B
Yeah.
C
They also have, as the face of the campaign, cat's eye. Like no. 1 cooler in key Hop world. And I feel like when I did wear it, it re. The tint part really did last.
B
Okay, great.
C
I can't say for 12 hours, but I just love the look of glossy tint. And it can be done really poorly. And I feel as though they have nailed the pigment stain ratio. And it doesn't feel like, you know when there's the sharpie marker stains out there.
B
Yes.
C
Which are just the make your lips like the Sahara desert. This is not like that is. This color, in a word, is juicy.
B
Yeah, it's juicy. It's got that lip oil feel. The payoff from the beginning. I'm sure it dries down to more of a stain. We all love a lip oil because it just feels so Luscious and gorgeous when it first goes on.
C
And it does have ceramides in there, which we know is good for, like, barriers, protection because our lips are exposed so much more. I just think it's really fun and very innovative with the packaging. And already it just launched, like, three days ago, where since we're recording it and like, I noticed on. On Sephora that the. A bunch of the colors are already sold out.
D
Wow.
C
Okay, There we go.
D
Go.
B
Amazing.
C
So I'm excited about that one. Yeah.
B
Now, I think when it comes to lips, we have seen so many lip balms that have have launched, honestly, ever since road Beauty, it was like everybody needed to have their own version.
C
Gonna give Summer Fridays a shout out. They were first.
B
Yeah. Yeah, they were first.
C
I'm telling you. Marianne, I set up about her with the Aron smoothie. She was also first with that.
B
Yeah. And then I feel like people seeing the success of road, though, that every brand had to have their own lip balm. And there have been so many.
C
I was just gonna say, I also think it's a reflection of the time we're in, because lip B bombs can be 10 to $25. It's not. You can get in on the road lifestyle to the summer Fridays lifestyle, and you are spending less than $30.
B
Yeah. I think it's also been a reflection of clean beauty movement that, you know, certainly with road beauty's success, but also just the attention to lips. You know, with lip filler, people want their lips to look really nice and plump and juicy and not always with the filler. I just think the ingredients have come such a far away where we really don't have to have feathered lips anymore. So, anyway, all of this to say that Revlon has jumped into the game at a great price point with these. Revlon Glimmer Lip Treat Balm and mask. It is 11.99 US 1499 in Canada. It comes in six shades and scents, so that should be noted. This particular one I'm holding.
C
So it's a balm and mask. Got it. Got it.
B
Exactly. This is just such a huge trend, I think, especially with the Youngs, to have this really strong dessert y type of of smell. This particular one that I've brought to show you is called hazelnut latte and smells really good. It really smells like a hazelnut dessert. And I'm actually holding it alongside Rhodes salty tan because they honestly look so similar. Doesn't smell. So that's. I actually appreciate that it doesn't.
C
I don't think so interesting.
B
You can check it out.
C
Other. Other road ones I've used definitely do.
B
And these kind of remind me of the ones that Lineage had before. I don't know if they still have them, those clear lip mask bombs that they had in the tube, because these are in tubes. But one thing to note is that this Revlon product was used on Lainey Wilson at the 2026 Grammy Awards. She's a country singer. Her makeup artist, Afton Williams, used the. This product in Hazelnut.
C
Perfect. Revlon girl. Yeah, I saw her in concert this year.
B
Oh, cool.
C
Yeah.
B
So this product was used now. I'm sure that it was a paid placement. Everyone, let's be honest. But this product is getting a lot of attention, obviously, for the price point, because it does have the peptides in it that everybody has been using in their products. 57% of people say that it gives this instant moisture boost. It's 5% squalene as well. A lot of these products that we've talked about in this roundup, whether it's Ole Hendrickson or Road or whoever, the price points, Summer Fridays, they're usually around $30. So the fact that it's half that price or even less, I think is. Makes it a win. It gives you that cushiony, I think.
C
Silicone feelings lips very, very well. A year ago, you might recall, we talked about their glass bombs. You were the one in the white tube that you loved as well, which was like a dupe for Clinique Black Honey. And I still think. I think that that that's one of the best textures they've come out with in a very long time. Highly recommend that as well.
B
Yeah. One thing I would say, having used it is I did feel like the. The balm lasted for a long time. And I think that's the beauty of reaching for one of these balm slash masks.
C
Yes.
B
Is the idea that it's meant to last longer and not just kind of evaporate into the air. And I think that's why people have been enjoying this product, not just for the price point, but because of the performance.
C
Right.
B
And I think that's the reality we're in right now is just like we see products get knocked off over and over again. But the honest truth is that a lot of times the next iteration does have a bit of an edge on the first one.
C
Yeah.
B
Because they are trying to improve on it.
C
Yeah.
B
It gives a really glassy look, kind of like lip gloss. And I guess that's another thing worth noting is that this particular one that I'm using is called, called scent free. And it's, it is scent free and clear.
D
Okay.
B
So there is that option for people, which I appreciate as well.
C
Yeah, everything's inspired by everything.
B
Yeah, absolutely.
D

Today's episode is brought to you in part by timeline.
B
So I know it sounds like a.
A
Bit of a cliche, the whole idea of new Year, new me, but I actually took the exercise pretty seriously this year. And now that it's February, I can say that I'm proud of myself. I've been going to bed earlier, waking up earlier. I've been doing yoga, taking the dog out more, cutting back on my wine, and upping my supplement intake. It is a little bit challenging for me to take supplements because I feel like I'm taking a lot of pills. And that's why I've been loving Mitopure Longevity Gummies from timeline. If you don't know what they are, Mitopure gummies are the first ever longevity gummies that support your cellular energy so you feel strong, clear and vibrant all year long. And they're the only clinically proven urolithin, a gummy that help your cells powerhouses so you can show up as your best self every decade. It's all about healthy aging and I appreciate that with timeline. It gives my cells more power to fuel my day. It's clinically shown to support muscle strength and function by targeting a key hallmark of aging, which is mitochondrial decline. So it's helping me to stay active and capable. And the formulas are clean as well. They're vegan, gluten free, non gmo, sugar free, even though they taste pretty good. And aller plus they're NSF certified. So this is a January habit that I look forward to. It's been super easy for me to maintain. And if you want to try it for yourself, don't let another year go by feeling less than your best. Grab 30 off your first month of might appear gummies@timeline.com beauty30 that's timeline.com beauty30 while this offer lasts. Now, now back to the show.
B
The other thing I just want to touch on quickly for the lip front lip stains are definitely a massive trend you had talked about in not too long ago in an episode about the Setu lip stain where you.
C
You may put it all over. Yeah, you just like put it all over and then you peel it off. Yeah, the peel off stain. And there's like a wonder. Wonder stain has one statue is the most viral for sure. Yeah.
B
And think that especially on TikTok you get to see that before and after. So it completely went viral. But not everybody wants to peel something off and so quietly. There has been another new innovation that's been creeping up in its lip liner stains.
C
Yes.
B
I kind of knew this was coming because I was. It was actually back a few years ago when I saw the REM Beauty launched a marker that was kind of like a marker version of Remember Maybelline's like that lip wear one where it stayed on for like three days.
C
The liquid stain.
B
Yeah, the liquid stain.
C
So when I saw famously Refinery29 wrote an article about that product that it lasted through intimate time with her man.
B
Wow. Yeah, it is like what is in that stuff? We've talked about this before. Anyway, REM Beauty came out with a marker. It wasn't designed to be a lip liner, but it definitely gave rise to like, why wouldn't this be a lip liner? Because this is probably people's biggest complaint about lip liner is that it comes off so quickly. It's harder to reapply a lip liner in the back of a cab, etc, so it's really the frame that if you can get that to stay, it's like half your work is done here. So apparently Huda Beauty came out with a little lip stain liner. I missed that launch, but I did catch this one. This is Nyx Beauty lip lingerie. And this shade is called Send Nudes. And it actually looks kind of like a ballpoint pen when you. So it's easier to draw on because, again, you don't have a lot of play time. It is a stain. So you want to take your time and make sure you're not making a mess that's then going to stain. So this product is $12 in the US 13.99 in Canada. It's available in eight shades. And I think that this is incredibly innovative. I've been using it. I've been really enjoying it. I think it's really smart. One thing that I will note is that it can dry out. So almost like a ballpoint pen, you want to store it face down, the cap part down. That's right. So that the liquid is kind of like, like down to where the ballpoint pen part of it would be. And another little tip is what you can do is after you apply it, you can like smudge it just a little bit. Because what I did notice when I tested it with a clear liner is that when everything wipes away, like, it is a sharp line. So if you love, like the Lola Young look of it all, go for it. But if you want it to be more subtle, you can actually just slightly blur with your finger after you apply it. And that way you get that definition without having a hard line. So, yeah, I'm. I'm a fan of it. And it's meant to be 14 hour wear, guys, and I thought it did last pretty much the whole day.
C
So just when we thought the lip combo innovation. And not. Not so much. Not so much. Well, speaking of Nyx, I had to try their latest foundation, Carlene, and it is called the Nyx Cosmetics make them wonder 24 Hour Soft Soft Matte Foundation, US$16. 18 in Canada. There's 14 shades in Canada. In the US there are 45 shades, but mostly only online. Not every retailer has it. And I will say, within the 14 shades in Canada, there's a nice breadth. They're covering someone who looks like me and someone who looks like Gloria. So I do appreciate that. Now, I bought this. This. Okay. It's been sold out. It's been so viral, it's been sold out. I couldn't get it. They couldn't get it to me in pr, so I went to buy it myself. And I've just been on. I feel like this year is going to be about foundations again because there's so much news happening.
A
Oh my gosh.
C
Around foundations. We will talk about that in our Best of Spring episode, which will be next month. But I'm like, I want to know what the options are right now for drugstore foundations. So I will say, first of all, it's a micro bottle.
B
Yeah, it's pretty small.
C
This is the shrinklation thing I was talking about. So at first I was like, I don't know if I can recommend that just based on the fill size alone. But then when I actually tried it and put it on, the spread is so incredible. You need so little.
B
Oh, interesting.
C
So it comes in this micro bottle that's almost like a squeeze tip. It kind of reminds me of like paint, like a squeezable paint thing you would use for crafts. So a little tiny bit goes a long way. And the spread, like you just need pen size amount and you can cover so much area on your face. Now, I will say I did not get my exact right shade, but the coverage is medium verging on full coverage. And the soft matte is just so good. And it's so of this moment that we are moving away from the clean girl. We don't want flat matte. We're not in 2016 anymore. This, I feel like nailed the soft matte finish. I had it on yesterday. And while it was not my exact right shade, I think I kind of just looked like I had gotten back from vacation. It really lasted. I felt like it didn't separate. My makeup was normally with the oily skin. I've seen all this, like, I look sweaty in pictures, all of that stuff. But I feel like this really lived up to the claims of that. That long wear, but it wasn't caked onto my face.
B
Yeah.
C
And anyway, so I think it's a winning formula. They say this is a dupe for the. For the Urban Decay Face Bond Foundation.
B
Never tried it.
C
Which is in the exact same kind of squeeze tube.
B
Oh, interesting.
C
Now that would make sense because there's Urban Decay Maybelline under the same umbrella. So I wouldn't be surprised if it is inspired by that. However, that one is is like waterproof. This one is not meant to be like that.
B
By the way, I'm using my wipes on my hand to get the foundation off. And my lip stain that I swatched is still there, staying there.
C
I love it. So anyway, I. It also has, like, every foundation. It has niacinamide. No, it doesn't. Oh. It has vitamin C. Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. So it's meant to be a little bit hydrating, too. I was just kind of shocked by. With how much I liked it, to be honest.
B
Yeah, that's great. Yeah, that's great. Especially at drugstore. I am going to highlight a concealer that is kind of popping off. This is the elf soft glam concealer.
C
I meant to try that, and I didn't get a chance to.
B
Guys, it's $5 US, five bucks and $6 in Canada.
C
That's fantastic.
B
It has 36 shades. I think that's pretty impressive for a concealer.
C
Yeah.
B
And it kind of spreads across fair, light, medium tan, deep and rich undertones. So the big deal about this is that E L F has not launched a concealer since camo. So that was probably six years ago, I think. And that's like a heavy duty concealer. So I think going back to what you're saying is, like, it's all about the soft, blurred effect right now. And so this really fits into that. It's a lovely texture. And I.
C
Satin is in the name, right?
B
It's soft.
C
Soft glam satin. Yeah. Yeah.
B
So it's really lovely from my wear. What I would say is I loved it for under the eyes.
C
You did?
B
Yeah. Because I just found that it didn't crease in that area, which is so important for myself. And I think it's not surprising because they also came out with these. These brightening correctors that are specifically for under eye. I was kind of like, oh, is there a green one for my redness? No, there's not. They come in three different shades of pink, which I think is also very cool. Not just one shade of pink. So they have dark pink, which is this one. They have a medium pink, and they have a whitish pink, which I did not receive, but would probably be best for my skin tone. So I love that there's three levels, and that's how you know it's specifically been formulated for under eye wear. So that's so great. But I also found, like, I used it in other areas where I have redness, and I did find that it just didn't. It didn't dry out. It was just like a really satiny, smooth, nice, medium texture. Didn't crease. And you just think about the Price like for five bucks. Are you kidding me? And again, back to that skin care. They all have some sort of skin care components, but I appreciate it's not niacinamide, it's hyaluronic acid which I do enjoy. And you know people are saying that this is outperforming $40.
C
I was just going to ask you, is this serums?
B
I said that just flew out of my mouth. Which is a good $1 40 can serums and serums because it is like a serum and it can, it has serum ingredients in the concealer concierge. It's outperforming $40 ones.
C
I was just going to ask you as the situation dupe for anything, people.
B
Are comparing it to Charlotte Tilbury's beautiful skin serum concealer. She has a new concealer coming out which I have on my in my basket to try. But her existing beautiful skin one I think it gets compared to.
C
Sa.
A
Today's episode is brought to you in part by Medicare.
B
Hey, hey. Breaking beauty fam.
A
We are talking all about the best deals in beauty so far in 2026. So I have to let you know that Medicaid is having their 25% off friends and family sale right now through February 17th. Everybody needs to know about it. And Medicaid, if you're not familiar, is a clinically proven British skincare brand known for age defying results. We're always talking about Medicaid around here because their products are so effective. They were actually founded by scientist brothers 15 years ago and all of Medicaid's products undergo clinical testing. They have amazing before and after results. Everything is dermatologist recommended and they follow strict EU guidelines. So if you're not familiar, this is a great opportunity to check out their products with their limited time only friends and family sale 25% off until February 17th. So let's talk about some of their best products. So Jill and I are both huge fans of the liquid Peptides advanced MP face serum. It's clinically proven to diminish the appearance of expression lines in only 10 minutes. It's so plumping and juicy and wonderful under makeup. Another one to try is Medicaid's award winning crystal retinol. That's retinol with an A night serum. It works 11 times faster than standard retinol. That's retinol with an O. And of course we know that retinol visibly smooths wrinkles brightens dark spots and firms skin, which is why we all love retinol so much. And this one is designed to be less irritating. So if you want to try it for yourself, don't miss out. This 25 off friends and family sale is only available online through February 17th at Medicaid U.S. no code is necessary. That's M E D I K. And the number 8 US shop now, before it's gone.
C
Me.
B
Now. We absolutely could not do this episode without talking about Blush. Blush is not going anywhere. It is still huge, Huge, huge. And this is where I would say the budget brands have been really inspired.
C
Yeah, you don't say. Yeah, they. They certainly have been.
B
So what have you got there, Jill? Because yours look quite different from mine. I. And they look very hourglass. Ish.
C
Yeah, hourglass, too. So I am holding up the Covergirl True Blend Skin Enhancer Baked Luminous Blush. Each of these is 12.99 US dollars, and there's a lot of product. This is not.
B
Yeah, that is huge.
C
This is not shrinkflation. And it's $14 in Canada, depending on the retailer. Of course, in this line, there are four blushes, one of which I do not have here. The bestseller is called Rose Latte. I don't have it because it was sold out. And then there's also four bronzers, which I really need to try because I've seen a bunch of influencers talk about those, and they look fantastic. They're baked. So one that I've tried is called Please, Please Pink. These are very pigmented. Even though they look like the hourglass, they're marbled, everybody. And they're baked, so they look like they are kind of of like the hourglass ones, but hourglass, to me, is much more of like a finishing. Let's just product. You have it.
B
Well, I have the palette.
C
Yeah.
B
But unfortunately, if we are comparing apples to apples, it would be the bronzer, which we don't have, because I just have the blushes that are not so swirly. But we can.
C
But I definitely think they're inspired by our.
B
There's no doubt.
C
There's no doubt. Let's just say that these are really pigmented. There's no. You know, like, I think that's been a gripe about drugstore makeup before, was that, oh, it doesn't show up, or it's not as good quality as a Mac or what have you. These really show up. I'm going to give this one to you, Carlene. And the other one that's going totally viral is the color called Strawberry Drizzle.
B
Okay.
C
And this one is kind of tiptoeing into that red blush trend. That we've seen popping off on. On Tik Tok. That Rosemary Swift, she set the world ablaze when she said on the Victoria Secret models she used red blush.
B
Oh, yeah.
C
And talking about that. And people are using that sound on Tik Tok when they're applying this. It's really fun to see.
B
That's so great. Oh, that's a very. This one's very cool. Strawberry drizzle.
C
And then the berry blend one. I just think I've seen this on some girls who have more Fitzpatrick 5 or 6. It is so beautiful.
B
Yeah.
C
The pigments payoff is incredible. And I feel like also with olive skin tones as well. They can pay. They can really.
B
We should compare anyways.
C
Run, don't walk, everybody. And also the fact that they're baked is kind of reminding me of the whole conversation we had with Laura Geller at the beginning of this year and how her baked foundation and baked products are popping off. And I think we're gonna have a moment with all of that again because she is so viral as well.
B
Yeah. I'm sure other people have tried in the past, but this is obviously hourglass inspired. That palette is still like, that'll be my palette till the day I die. Like, I love hourglass so much so. But it is pricey. So the fact that there is. I'm dying to try these bronzers now because that's.
C
I need to get.
B
That's what I love from the hourglasses.
A
Is the bronzer in particular.
B
I've brought a couple of blushes. I think the one I'm going to talk about first is Essence. Essence. So this is the Essence soft touch bouncy blush. It's 5.99 US 6.99 in Canada. It comes in four shades. Did you hear those prices?
C
I know. I said in my Instagram comments or my Tick Tock comments. The other day, people were saying, what has happened to drugstore prices? I'm like, we still got Essence. Everything's less than 10.
B
I think we're seeing both. I think we're seeing prices creep up with some brands, but I think some prices might be going down.
C
Well, they've always been been 499 or less.
B
Yeah.
C
And so it in the States, but.
B
That even the elf one, like five, six bucks for that concealer. You got to be kidding me. Yeah. But I think it's just about having that edge. All of these drugstore players are suffering from K beauty, of course, because that's where the excitement is. That's where the innovation Is. And that's where they are losing market share. I'm going to talk about that more in just a moment, but for now. Now, when it comes to this particular, they're calling it a cream to powder formula. I don't. When you put it on and when you feel it, I don't get the cream part that they're talking about. I just think it's a. It's a lovely powder formula. I don't really see that cream experience that, you know, the bounciness that they're talking about. Having said that, it is very lovely. And it's giving you that soft matte that we talked about that's really happening right now. And it is. It's got a really punchy pigment to it. I just saw these four tones and immediately was like, Dior. Yeah, the Dior Rosy Glow Blush.
C
Now, difference being with the Rosy Glow, of course. Yeah. It's meant to be adjustable.
B
Yeah. PH adjusting, which the Essence is definitely not. But, you know, I've poked holes in that PH technology in the past. I maintain that. And these Essence ones, I'm sure they would look different on different skin tones to everyone. But what I'm holding up here, the Essence shade is called Exotic Daisy. And I'm holding up the Dior Rosy Glow in cherry, which I love. And so these are really poppy, not the red that Jill was talking about, but it's like a really poppy kind of orange, red, coral, I guess you would say.
C
Yeah. It feels very much like we're. This is what you put on in the dead of winter when you're like, is, can spring just get here already?
B
Absolutely. And I did a face side by side where I used the Essence on one side and the Dior on the other. And they were essentially indetectable.
C
Right.
B
And the wear was also pretty damn close.
C
Close.
B
Because that's what I like about these punchy colors. They last all day, whereas some of them, they can kind of fade. And then it's like, are you even really wearing Blush?
C
Yeah.
B
So sometimes I like to start out with a punchier color because knowing that it's gonna, like, settle down later. But I just found they were both, like. They're both so pretty on the skin. They give that blur, soft matte texture. And the pigment is there. And if you look again at these four shades, this one here that I'm holding roses and berry is a very deep, like Jill said, with the coverg, where it's really got some lovely pigment payoffs.
C
It's like, I think for so long People who were on Fitzpatrick 5 or 6 are just. They just drugstore blush. It's like good luck.
B
Yeah, exactly.
C
There was no. You had to go to Mac or something. Right. But now it's like they're really making sure that things are more inclusive. And I. And I love that you can do that.
B
And I think it's probably not a coincidence that this darker shade is very similar to Berry Berry in Dior. This one's called Roses and Berry. And then. And then just on the heels of that, this is the Maybelline Cloudtopia 16 Hour Cheek and Lip Mousse. It's $9 in the US 13.99 Moose in Canada, and it is available in 10 shades. Nudes, berries, corals and reds. And Jill, you will probably notice that this is a whipped, airy mousse. And do you remember the dream moose from back I'm 20 years.
C
I'm triggered. Do I remember it? It's like it ra know, right?
B
I used to love that. This is feels so much more sophisticated. So much more 2026.
C
Yeah.
B
And look at that payoff.
C
Yeah. It's incredible.
B
The color payoff is unbelievable. It's so soft to the touch. It is so pigmented, you guys.
C
Okay, Beauty.
B
It is like, it is so pigmented. This is so great for so many skin tones. And it gives you this beautiful soft touch. It's giving Korean pudding pots. And when you flip it over, it actually says made in Korea. This is very clearly, I think in this day and age, it's like, if you can't beat him, join them. This is what I'm getting from this completely. It's so inspired by the pudding textures that you see in, like, Kaja Beauty, all of that. And they're all doing it. But I do co sign these Maybelline ones because they're honestly really good. And the pop singer Zara Larson was spotted wearing this product in Coral Illusion at the Grammys. She was wearing Coral Illusion, and I will post the picture. But absolutely stunning. Her makeup artist. Again, I'm sure this was a paid placement, but the fact that it could be worn on the red carpet because there has to be a level of performance to. To do it. Even if you're being paid, you cannot have something. Somebody go in and they just. Their makeup is not even showing up. And she did a stunning kind of like a W shape, the sunburn over the nose in that coral color. And it is just absolutely stunning. And I will tell you, this is 16 hour wear is what they claim I'm wearing It on my lips right now, by the way. And it really lasts. It does.
C
So finally, I'm going to talk about a fragrance. We know that fragrances fragrance. It just between mists and eau de parfum and hair solids and everything, it's just like fragrance just does not quit. So I want to introduce you to a very interesting, budget, friendly fragrance that just dropped at Target. And it is from the brand Odell, which I think we were one of the first adopters to talk about Odell.
B
We might have been.
C
I think you were sure.
B
Love it.
C
So this is a hair care brand, and they branched out into fragrances. Y for your hair and your body. Tell me what these look like, Carlene.
B
They're a bit byredo is.
C
Yeah, I would say.
B
Yeah.
C
So they have a glass bottle, and it's got this dome. What would you call this?
B
It's like a ball cap on the top. It's black, it's glossy. It looks expensive.
C
It looks expensive. And I think even the glass bottles is like, like a lot. So these are their signature hair scents. There's actually four, and they are $16.99 U.S. amazing.
B
That's like Touchland.
C
Price 100 milliliters. Yeah. So these are for hair and body. The one that I love is called is grapefruit orange peel, and they call it sunshine and optimism. It's like very bright, very citrusy. Grapefruit zest, mandarin orange, bergamot. Which is, of course why I like it. I love anything with bergamot in it. And then bitter orange peel is the base.
B
Yeah.
C
I have been wearing this as a hair perfume. Just kind of like, as a last step in my routine. And I think it does last. It's not going to last as much as, like, my Chanel per.
B
My Chanel hair perfume, which definitely not stays three years.
C
And wash your hair.
B
Yeah.
C
But I just really think that these are gorgeous and in a way to indulge in a lux. Luxe moment. Yeah. Recession indicator, whatever you want call it. I think that these really stood out to me in the mix of everything that I was sent in the last little bit. So they really look like the way. But they're at Target.
B
Yeah. They've really elevated the game of budget beauty. That's why I've been a longtime fan. I actually talked about these products on my own sub.
C
Yeah.
B
The Elevens, if you guys want to check it out. I did a whole story on fragrances for scent sensitive people, because I am scent sensitive. So I really did a deep dive on how know like what ingredients to look for to avoid and which ones I find I can tolerate better. So this is one of the ones I mentioned. It is 100 natural fragrance.
C
Have you tried it or tried any of them in your hair?
B
No, but just on my body.
C
Yeah. Okay.
B
Hair and body mist.
C
Yeah. So do you have any favorites?
B
This is the one I like that I talked about. Yeah, this was the Rosewood Vanilla.
