We are in studio to film our summer Damn Good special. So I love doing these in studio with you, Carlene, because it's just so much more fun and we get to show every. You get to show the people the products. We're going to be lifting them up.
Carlene Higgins
And yeah, we've got the good lights so you can actually see what we're talking about. So much fun.
Jill Dunn
All of it. All of it.
Carlene Higgins
And I love doing it in New York as well, because especially with this summer episode. Yeah, always a bit warmer here.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
So I'm really in the mood for summer. People are wearing shorts outside, so officially summer.
Jill Dunn

Carlene Higgins
That's right. And if you fall in love with any of the products that we're talking about, we list every single product over on our website @breaking beauty podcast.com and.
Jill Dunn

What are your burning morning skin care or beauty questions? We will get to the bottom of it for you.
Jill Dunn
I love it. Now, before we dive into today's episode, review all of these wonderful summer products, I need to do a little bit of a rant here because it's June, it's Pride month. And I just have to say, Carlene, I am a little shocked at how few beauty brands have been out there supporting Pride this year. It seems like far less.
Carlene Higgins
Yes, that's true.
Jill Dunn
And we have our staples, 19 since 1984. Mac Cosmetics still doing it. They just an amazing campaign with Jamie, who's a trans influencer in Toronto. Latex red catsuit, like, phenomenal photos. And so, like, they're always going to support. I know that Sephora has been as well. They did a partnership with Lady Gaga and and her Born this Way foundation and donating proceeds. But I have to be honest, there's a lot of other brands that are very quiet.
Carlene Higgins
You know what? I am going to agree with you completely. And I think that just goes to show how fickle some of these campaigns have been in the past. Whereas you look at a company like Mac where that has been part of their literally their tagline, their identity. Yeah, their identity since the beginning of time. And then kind of the bandwagoners, I would say, who have just jumped on board and now suddenly they're quiet. And I agree with you. Like, I actually saw a post, Happy Pride. I think it was Cara Delevingne on Instagram just a couple of days ago. And I was like, oh, yeah, it's Pride Month. Like, I forgot that's how little fanfare there was in my inbox.
Jill Dunn
Right.
Carlene Higgins
When it comes to the beauty messaging. So it's a happy Pride Month from us to you.
Jill Dunn
That's right. With all of that being said, we have our great episode ahead. Carlene, let's share a little bit about what we're going to be showcasing.
Carlene Higgins
I'm going to be talking about the poppy new colors that I've been noticing in the makeup sphere. I'm also going to be going a little bit deeper than usual on sunscreen. I'm not a chemist, but I have noticed some of the kind of sunscreen washing, the doping that we've been hearing about, SPF doping. So I'm going to dive into that just a little bit. We've got some great travel essentials and Jill, you're going to give us your pov.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
POV Beauty, which you got a chance to try by Mikayla Makeup.
Jill Dunn
That's right. And we finally have a chance to talk about it today and I think it just got really restocked and I have some epic makeup. The lips keep lipping, there is just no end.
Carlene Higgins
And then you glosses and the oils.
Jill Dunn
And then you have a very fun fresh take on a cult favorite skincare product.
Carlene Higgins
Yes.
Jill Dunn
That I, when I saw it I was like, I was surprised it took them that long to get into it.
Carlene Higgins
Yes. All right, we'll reveal all just ahead.
Jill Dunn
Let's do it. Sa shout out to Mara for supporting our show this week. I'm all about less is more when it comes to skin care in the summer. And that's why I'm excited to introduce you to Mara's best selling award winning algae enzyme cleansing oil. And it's the only way to wash your face. So what makes this special is that it's powered by fruit enzymes like pineapple and pumpkin to gently exfoliate the skin. And so it's gentle on skin and eyes and really tough on that long wear makeup and spf. And it gets rid of all of that grime but leaves behind super hydrated clean skin that's never dry or stripped. And I'm a big fan of enzymatic cleansers because the enzymes are able to kind of act like Pac man and get rid of all the dead skin cells that you have on your face. So you're left with radiant glowing skin. But you're never scrubbing, you're never harsh, it's never aggressive, it's just a very gentle way to exfoliate. I especially love it in the summertime. And the algae enzyme cleansing oil, it actually multi purpose. You can use it on damp skin or dry skin. You can leave it on as a light peel, leave it on for five minutes, rinse it away, you can use it to gua sha and sculpt your skin. You can use it to dermaplane. The uses are endless. And how I like to use this for myself is I put it on dry skin, I emulsify it with a little bit of water and I'm making sure that it's in contact with my skin for at least 60 seconds. So you're getting that gentle exfoliation action. And Mara, they're all about transformative algae infused skincare designed to minimize your routine in into three steps or less. It's beloved by celebrities, this cleanser and they're really all about see the glow, get it sea. See the glow with that algae. So, exclusively for Breaking Beauty listeners, Mara is offering 20% off the entire Mara website with the code Breaking Beauty. Visit www.themara beauty.com for more information. That's www.thm a r a b e a u t y dot com. That's themarabeauty.com for more to get 20 off site wide. We'll link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show.
Sheena Shay
What's up everyone? I'm Sheena Shay. You may know me from nine seasons of Bravo's Vanderpump Rules, but I'm here to tell you about my podcast called Shenanigans. We talk about everything from reality tv, pop culture, relationships, parenting, and invite you to join the conversations with Q and A sessions where nothing is off the table. There's so much more I want to share with you. Thanks for listening and make sure to subscribe to Shenanigans to stay up to date with new episodes every Friday.
Carlene Higgins
Okay, Jill, I need to know what your opinion is on POV Beauty by Michaela Makeup because I saw a tick tock of her recently talking about how it is just selling out non stop.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
And she was actually much more transparent than typical brands that say that. She's like, I'm not talking about 500 units. I'm talking about, I can't remember what she said, but the numbers were astronomical.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Like this stuff is flying off the shelves. So is it the price point? Is it the formulas? You tell me.
Jill Dunn
So I think what would surprise and we talked about this briefly on another episode, but the fact that she came out with skin care and not with makeup absolutely. Was, I think a curveball for a lot of people. And I would say the same thing about Haley Bieber. When she came out with Road, a lot of people were surprised it was skin care and that it wasn't like glazed donut highlighter or whatever she still might like. She's obviously tiptoeing into makeup now with the lip liners and the blushes and stuff. But the outset it was not.
Carlene Higgins
Who knows where Elf will take her.
Jill Dunn
That's right. I know. Congratulations. But with Point of View, I have tried everything in the range and I'm going to tell you about my favorite product.
Carlene Higgins
Please do.
Jill Dunn
So it's called Drench it and it is the soothing priming milk which is perfect for summer. And it's US$35 not bad. Right now it is sold out, so I'm hoping that it will come back. Now, what I love about this is that it is feels very k. Beauty inspired. It has. It's like a watery consistency. I would say it leans more water than milk.
Carlene Higgins
Really?
Jill Dunn
Yeah. And let's have a look. You put it in your hand, put in the palm of your hand. You pat your palms together.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
And then you like prime your skin that way. So it's very, very hydrating. And it's got potent blend. That's their wording of a two step fermentation process that intensely moisturizes, brightens and even skin tone. It has peptides in there. And I just found that my skin definitely looked plump and I do love it under makeup.
Carlene Higgins
Okay, so do you put your moisturizer over top then or not?
Jill Dunn
You can, and I have.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
She has a whole range. She has like a whipped cream moisturizer and she has a primer. I was just, I just thought they were okay. Like, there's other ones in my routine that I prefer, but this is something that if I was like gonna do I do this for hydration and then probably an SPF on top. That's what I was doing. And then my makeup on top of that. But the whole reason that she created this line was so your skincare wears perfectly under makeup.
Carlene Higgins
Got it.
Jill Dunn
That's the pov.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
I think that's genius as well because a lot of people are like, what moisturizer isn't going to mess up my makeup? You know, what skincare products.
Carlene Higgins
Right. But I'm still confused. Okay, first of all, I just want to say that having tried this, you're absolutely right. It's called milk, but it really comes out more like a water.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
And actually funny enough, on my sub stack, I'm going to send everyone to my substack. The elevens.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Just last week I wrote about my. The favorite step in my beauty routine. And it's softening lotions, which a lot of people don't really understand what that is, but it's really a hydrating essence. It's a little bit thicker than a regular essence that's just like water. And its primary purpose is hydration. Like it just soaks the skin. That's right. Hydration. And I love it. It's. It's like the essential step in my beauty routine. And I think it's such an unsung hero, this type of product. So it's interesting to me that no idea this was in her line and I love the feel of it, it really is.
Jill Dunn
It's really good.
Carlene Higgins
She nailed it in lotion. It's like, it conditions your skin. It makes it softer. And I just turned it over and noticed it is made in Korea. That doesn't surprise me, because this.
Jill Dunn
Okay.
Carlene Higgins
Beauty, whole category is definitely Japanese beauty, J beauty, and K beauty.
Jill Dunn
Everything that she made in this line is made in Korea. All of the skincare, or if it's not made there, it is formulated there, and the product is made in the United States.
Carlene Higgins
Right.
Jill Dunn
Probably she's dealing with tariffs and all that. I have no idea. But to answer your question about when you. You. When you would use this in your routine, they say it's drench it, followed by what they call drip it, which is their serum.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
Followed by their cream, which is called whip it.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
And those are fine. But this, I thought, was the star of the bunch. And the makeup, she also has a primer. And I liked. I liked it, But I did find that it had a faint smell, and it wasn't like my fave. Like I said, there's other ones out there.
Carlene Higgins
So I was only confused. I know that's the step you would do a hydrating toner, but I was confused because it said priming.
Jill Dunn
Right.
Carlene Higgins
Lotion. Is it. Sorry.
Jill Dunn
Soothing Priming Milk.
Carlene Higgins
Priming milk. So that's what confused me is because normally when I think of a primer, I think after that, you're putting your makeup on.
Jill Dunn
Right.
Carlene Higgins
So I guess the idea, though, is this whole system is a priming system. That's right.
Jill Dunn
And if you. You can put all those steps on and your makeup isn't going to pill.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
That's her whole okay idea. Is that interesting skin care that is never gonna with your makeup.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
Right. And then glaze it is. The name of the Glazy Tack primer, which I think she was kind of going after the elf grip or the milk makeup, because she first went viral for the milk makeup primer to cover her acne. And it's, like, got a bit of a blurring effect. I think I'm going to revisit that now that I'm talking out loud about it. I do think I need to give it another shot to give it a longer wear test.
Carlene Higgins
Right.
Jill Dunn
I think maybe I was a bit too quick to judge. I'll do it in. I'll do it whenever it's, like, a little hotter out.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
You know, to see if it grips.
Carlene Higgins
Everything, if she loves it. Guys. We also have our breaking beauty newsletter that we send out every Month where we have our favorites that maybe didn't make the episodes correct. So if it makes the grade with Jill, you might find it on there.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. And Michaela, come back. We want to talk to you. I saw she just moved house. She just bought. Like, of course, people on TikTok already know how much she paid. They're like, this house is $4.6 million. I'm like, get it, Queen.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
You know?
Carlene Higgins
Well, it's funny. I remember the first time we interviewed Mikayla makeup. She had 6.5 million followers at that time.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
And she probably has. I don't know how many she has now.
Jill Dunn
It's like 16 million or something.
Carlene Higgins
But I remember her saying that she said something about wanting to be an esthetician.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
This was. And this was years ago.
Jill Dunn
I think that was actually the second time. Was it?
Carlene Higgins
Yes. You know, you're right. It was the second time we had her on the show.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
And she said that. So I wonder if this was a twinkle in her eye at that point, because she. She indicated we. We did ask about a makeup line, and it didn't sound. Anyway. Yeah. I wonder if there was some foreshadowing there.
Jill Dunn
So that's my review of pov pov. From what I understand, they're coming out with even more in the coming months, so we will stay tuned, but for me, that's a thumbs up.
Carlene Higgins
And, I mean, I wonder if makeup could be in the cards down the road.
Jill Dunn
Of course, I could see it. Of course. But it's the robbing Peter paying Paul at the moment. Like, right now, she's probably like, okay, I can still take all the brand deals from Tart Rare Beauty. Get the bag.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
And funnel it right into her own skincare.
Carlene Higgins
Absolutely.
Jill Dunn
Which is the trend now.
Carlene Higgins
Milk in general with skin care seems to be a trend right now. I see that on your tabletop.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
Favorite summer goodies. You've got the. The Tatcha Dewy. What's it called?
Jill Dunn
Dewy Milk Moisturizer. So this is actually a moisturizer. And if so, I'm gonna give you. It just dropped. It's the Tatcha Dewy milk moisturizer. It's US$59 and 80 in Canada. And so we've learned before on the show that the Tatcha Dewy Skin Moisturizer is like the number one best selling moisturizer at Sephora. So it's a little bit surprising it took them this long to come out with kind of a sister product to it.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
So I would say the Difference between this product and the one I just talked about. This is a proper moisturizer.
Carlene Higgins
Yes.
Jill Dunn
But it's a milky moisturizer.
Carlene Higgins
You could actually use them together.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
If you wanted to cherry pick.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. So did you try this yet? I'll give this to you. Okay. This probably isn't for your skin type. I'm thinking I have it at home.
Carlene Higgins
I mean it, it would be for my skin type. I mean, I like an emulsion. I only would use a heavier cream at night.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
And, and so I do like the texture, how lightweight it was, but it was a bit too scented for me.
Jill Dunn
Oh, interesting.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah. Because I have very sensitive skin. It's quite fragranced, I find.
Jill Dunn
Interesting. I love this. It's going to be. I'll definitely finish this this summer. I finished multiple of the dewy skin cream pots. It's got Japanese purple rice in there, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect against free radicals. It also has green tea extract which is of course very powerful as an antioxidant. And it has zinc hyaluronate which is formulated with combination to oily skin in mind. So it's moisture locking hyaluronic acid and oil balancing zinc, which I think zinc isn't used enough in traditional skincare products. You think of it a lot as a sunscreen ingredient. But like the ordinary has a niacinamide and zinc serum that I love.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah. It's said to be an anti inflammatory as well. So yeah, it would be good for acnec skin. I could see that.
Jill Dunn
Yeah. And I will just say though, I really wish that they would like. I'm just over the purple. I'm just gonna say it.
Carlene Higgins
Well, that's the other thing I have to say is that the fluid itself is purple, like quite purple. It's, it's the same color as the outer package, the lilac. So I, I did clock that as well, Jill. I noticed quite a scent and I also noticed the purple. I don't really need the artificial dyes and the artificial fragrance. It feels a bit dated.
Jill Dunn
Interesting.
Carlene Higgins
That was my, that was my take.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
I kind of put it to the side. I like the texture. I think the ingredients are cool. But I just think that that's just my opinion. What do you guys think? Drop into our opinion.
Jill Dunn
No, I, I dropping Instagram let us know. And by the way, we discovered when we talked to Daniel Martin on our show a few months ago that he used all attaches skin care on Meghan Markle on her wedding day. There you have it. So if you're a bride or you bridal makeup artist or what have you, you're going to be in a wedding. I think that this would be a good moisturizer for the day. Just saying.
Carlene Higgins
All right.
Jill Dunn
Sa Quince is supporting our show this week. It's gonna be officially summer, everyone in a couple of days. And I'm having that familiar urge to refresh my closet. But I don't want to waste money on pieces that only just wear once or one season. And really, Quince changes all of that because their clothes are timeless, they're lightweight, and they're far more elevated than anything else. At this price point, it finally feels like my wardrobe matches my standards. So they have essentials like 100% European linen shorts. I'm on their website right now looking at them. Those start at just $30. They also have the perfect linen dresses. Once again, 100% European linen dresses that are button down. They just look easy, breezy, like you would wear them every day with flat sandals. They look so timeless and effortless. They have luxe swimwear. They have Italian leather platform sandals. And what's my cart right now is the Italian leather hand woven tote. It's $149. I swear it looks designer. That would cost a lot more. So they really have those essential timeless pieces on lock for a great price. And everything with Quint is half the cost of similar brands. And they're able to do that because they work directly with top artisans and they cut out the middleman. So Quint gives you luxury without the markup and they only work with factories that use safe, ethical and responsible manufacturing practices and premium fabrics and finishes. So give your summer closet and upgrade with quince. Go to quince.com breaking beauty for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. That's Q-U-I-N C E.com breaking beauty to get free shipping and 365 day returns. Once again, quince.com breaking beauty will link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show.
Carlene Higgins
Well, going to hit you guys with that tease that we talked about at the beginning of the show. Jill was surprised to see this on my tabletop of favorites. This is the Paula's Choice limited edition biodegradable 2% BHA exfoliating toner pads. They are $16 in the US 20 in Canada and you get 10 in a box. So in a nutshell, Jill, this is your favorite 2% BHA exfoliating toner pads from Paula's choice in a travel pack. These little.
Jill Dunn
They're individual sachets.
Carlene Higgins
Yes.
Jill Dunn
Much like the Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads.
Carlene Higgins
That's right. They look exactly like that but they're dark gray branded and of course it has. They're pre soaked with the cult favorite salicylic acid formula that's going to give you that, that clear skin, that exfoliating that's so great for unclogging pores and for acne skin. And for anybody who doesn't know there's green tea in there as well, that's meant to like calm and give you a soothing benefit. Which is why I think so many people love the product because it doesn't strip their face so badly that it's like dry and irritated. So yeah, I agree with you. It's been a long time coming. And unlike the Dr. Dennis Gross pads there, it's not a two step.
Jill Dunn
Right.
Carlene Higgins
You don't need to have that neutralizing the, the neutralizing step after. So this is literally. You just swipe it. You can use it at the gym after you've worked out or these will be going to Italy with my daughter.
Jill Dunn
Nice.
Carlene Higgins
For sure. So much easier to pack. And I love that it's in little biodegradable sachets as well.
Jill Dunn
I'm gonna call bullshit on that. I'm sorry, they said, I think they said biodegradable. They didn't say the sachets are biodegradable. I think they're trying to say that the towelette or the like pad is biodegradable. But want, even if it has a little bit of your trace makeup left on there after you've washed your face, I still, I think that that then is ineligible to be biodegraded. I'm just calling like they're not the only ones that do it. There's plenty. But it's like I'm so conflicted when I see single use products because I love them. But I, I am like are we not past that or is there no better way to package them anyway?
Carlene Higgins
And I'm on their website now and it does say that the pre soaked pad is biodegradable. I'm not sure about the sachets because it doesn't specifically say, but they're at least recyclable. I personally believe that these single use type of toning pads have made a comeback. I mean they have. We've seen the, the micellar pads, we've seen the toner pads that are all coming out of Asia.
Jill Dunn
Yes. Like the meta Cube and whatnot.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah. Like, they're not, they don't, they don't come in the individual sachets.
Jill Dunn
That's my, that's my beef.
Carlene Higgins
But they do come on an individual pad. Sure. The reusable cloth that pads that you might use. So, I mean, they have made a comeback. And for better or for worse.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, no, for sure.
Carlene Higgins
And then if you ask my husband, he'll say it's all going to the landfill. We're not separating anything anyway. So we're just doing it all for doomed. Our conscious.
Jill Dunn
We might as well know. Might as well have clear pores if we're all going down. So enjoy.
Carlene Higgins
Another one that I will be using all summer long is the ultraviolet SPF 50. This one's called the Future Fluid Super Light Mineral Sunscreen, but it actually has a different name in the U.S. let me just find it. In the U.S. it's called Ultraviolet Future Screen SPF 50 plus this modern mineral sunscreen.
Jill Dunn
Okay.
Carlene Higgins
It's $40 in the U.S. and 54 in Canada. So I'm just going to show you. This is a tinted version as well. Now, I do like more of the modern tinted sunscreens because I think they've adjusted where they used to be kind of orangey. They are like a little bit cooler now, which works for my skin tone. Yeah, it's not as peachy. Now, again, I, I have quite pale skin on the Fitzpatrick scale. But I do know with ultraviolet, again, they do typically have even like the very darkest skin tone almost on the Fitzpatrick scale in their ads.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
So I, I would hope that this would service all skin tones. This one is a mineral sunscreen as well, which appeals to me because I have sensitive skin filters can irritate my skin, so I tend to go toward mineral. There are other reasons why can choose mineral. We talked last year a lot about the whole sunscreen fiasco, about whether these filters are entering the bloodstream or not. The chemical filters, if they are entering the bloodstream, whether they are having a negative impact or not.
Jill Dunn
Okay.
Carlene Higgins
Or whether it's such a small trace amount. And again, from my understanding, these are still tests that are underway. So some people are wanting to choose mineral sunscreens as an alternative to those chemical ones. And a lot of dermatologists might recommend mineral sunscreen for various different reasons, whether you have rosacea, etc. So the thing about this sunscreen, when I really started looking into it, it says formulated with innovative Japanese zinc. And so again, that kind of gives you the. Because it's such a thin formula, there's no white cast. It really is a fluid. They're using that word. It's that milky kind of texture like we were talking about. And it is fragrance free. It's non comedogenic. So all of that is great for, you know, whether you have sensitive skin or acne. But when you really look at it, Even though it has 20 zinc oxide, it also has another ingredient in it called ethyl hexyl meth, oxy crylene. Okay. Now this ingredient, which I looked up is a different form of a filter, of a sunscreen filter. It is said to help to stabilize the mineral filter, but it is in fact a chemical sunscreen filter.
Jill Dunn
Right.
Carlene Higgins
And there's a great article about this on the sunscreen company's website that I'm going to link to on our show notes and on our website and it's called Understanding Chemical SPF Boosters and Sunscreen Doping. How are these hidden ingredients different to their chemical UV filter counterparts?
Jill Dunn
Right.
Carlene Higgins
So it's basically all I'm pointing out is that there's nothing necessarily wrong with this formula. I will, I will be using this all summer long. But the kind of issue that I take with this is just that the way that this product is marketed is that it is a modern mineral sunscreen with using this Japanese zing.
Jill Dunn
Right, right.
Carlene Higgins
And the impression that the consumer gets is that it is a 100% mineral sunscreen that they're going for, when in fact there is this ingredient that is much lesser known than typical chemical sunscreens that is still in there. So I'm just pointing out that there's a little bit of marketing going on here where it's a little bit duping the consumer from making the choices, whether they're right or wrong or fully informed or not, they are confusing to the consumer.
Jill Dunn
I can't let this, this conversation go without. Have you seen the Primally Pure sunscreen billboards that were in Los Angeles?
Carlene Higgins
I did not.
Jill Dunn
Okay, so this caused quite a brew haha on the Reddit and Tick Tock community. So basically Primally Pure erected these billboards in Los Angeles and it said the sun isn't poison, but your sunscreen is.
Carlene Higgins
Oh, right.
Jill Dunn
Primally pure is a 100 poison free.
Carlene Higgins
SPF while going all the way with it.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, I don't know if we can see it on yeah. My computer. But anyway, yeah, so of course that gets a lot of attention. Now do I love a clap back or do I love a clap back? Because then ultraviolet. Now I'm gonna caveat this by saying I Don't know what's AI and real anymore, but they made a billboard that they've posted on their Instagram, okay? And it says, warning, this SPF contains chemicals, hydration, and common sense. And then they have another one that says, save the beef tallow for your potatoes, not your pores. This SPF is 100 poisonous to premature skin aging. So they've turned it on its head. And in the comments, we've got. We've got Caroline Hirons. God, it says, God bless you one and all. And then Kirby, who hosts Los Angeles, she wrote. She wrote, is this real? Lol. And then they go in our eyes.
Carlene Higgins
Oh, interesting.
Jill Dunn
They made, like, a virtual right Cloud.
Carlene Higgins
Got it. Got it. Okay. I love it.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Dear Media
And then don't even get me started on the late breaking this whole thing about Ultraviolet. They're a different sunscreen. It's their mattifying mineral sunscreen was supposedly tested by this independent company called Choice, along with a whole bunch of other sunscreens. And they said that even though it was claiming SPF 50 through tests, it was only performing to a level of an SPF 5, which was kind of crazy. And so there's been a lot of headlines about this. And the founder from Ultraviolet came out and she was, you know, adamantly opposed to this result and had, you know, she kind of showed what their test proved, and then she sent the formula to another lab in Germany for independent testing.
Carlene Higgins
And apparently the result was that it.
Dear Media
Performed at an SPF 60. So, you know, these tests are just kind of all over the map. And lab Muffin, who's been on our show, weighed in and talked about why that happens, why these tests are so hard to remain consistent, especially with mineral formulas. It's all very complicated.
Carlene Higgins
But I. I have worn that specific.
Dear Media
Sunscreen, and I do not think it's.
Carlene Higgins
And it's an SPF5.
Dear Media
I'm sure I would have burned if.
Carlene Higgins
It was, so I stand by it.
Dear Media
But again, you know, that's what the big guns are for. The LaRouche posays of the world, the neutrogenas of the world, and they, you know, who test multiple times. And that's why people buy their formulas again and again.
Carlene Higgins
So listen, I. Again, I.
Jill Dunn
There's always so much to talk about.
Carlene Higgins
We are. We are in favor of sunscreen all the way. In my real life, when I step out of the studio and step of my beauty editor, I know so many people who. Who say this to me. I don't like to use sunscreen because I. I think it. Cause Causes cancer. I think it's poison. And so I always say to them, well, just use mineral sunscreen. If you're worried about it, use mineral sunscreens. Use the Ava Issa sun and serum drops. They're amazing. So my point is, is that I want mineral sunscreens to be transparent in when they're 100, not just on your face. Right. But when it's a hundred percent mineral versus a hybrid. I think that kind of clarity would help to bring people in instead of turning them out. When it comes to we want everyone.
Jill Dunn
Wearing sunscreen, listen, you know, it's confusing for us and we've been doing this for 20 years. Every year there's a new headline, there's a new ingredient. This filter is being banned, this one that is being investigated by this governing body. We've got Robert F. Kennedy, who, who only knows what's, what's happening. There's people selling their own DIY sunscreen on Amazon, like this is the world we're living in. But I sit here today and I still use it all the time. And I still think it's, if nothing else, appeal to your vanity. You will. Absolutely. And a bit leathery. And that's your prerogative if you want.
Carlene Higgins
But yeah, but if you're listening to this show, that's not what you want. I agree with you. I was thinking to myself that I'm probably coming up on 25 years. I would say that I've been using that I've been consistent using sunscreen every morning. And I do swear by it. It's the number one anti aging, so to speak, formula that you can buy. So on that note, if you are a die hard sunscreen lover and wearer and you want something that's super reliable, actually works, has the sun factor effect that it says that it claims on the label you need to know about SkinCeuticals Clear Daily Soothing UV Defense, SPF 50. It's 54 in the US, 62 in Canada. This is the newest addition to SkinCeuticals sunscreen family and apparently it's already a hit in the US but it just launched in Canada in April. And what I think is really cool about this sunscreen is it's specifically geared toward those of us with redness and people with acne prone skin.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, I have it. I haven't, I haven't opened it yet. I've been kind of saving it.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, it's great. It's great. And I just think it's another barrier for people who don't know necessarily want to wear sunscreen. You often hear are people who suffer from acne and they feel like it breaks them out. And so I think skinceuticals just. It's that trusted.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Brand. It's right up there with ELTA md And you often hear of ELTA MD as being, you know, the dermatologist. Go to. It's. It sort of sets the bar. But I will be honest, I have yet to find an eltamd formula that I personally.
Jill Dunn
Oh, really? I have like a bunch.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, I think it's. It's a great brand, but do I have one that I can throw to and say that is the holy grail? I don't. So I do. I have been using this clear daily one and it is completely like, it comes out white, but again, it's that very light milk and it does blend into completely clear. Hence why it says it on. On the label. So if you are concerned about that. It is a hybrid formula. They are very clear in their language. It uses mineral and chemical filters. It is super lightweight. And the claims are pretty great. Like after one week, they're saying 94 said their skin felt soothed, 82% said that they had less visible redness. Like, that is music to my ears. As someone with rosacea, I can't say that I've been using it consistently enough to say, oh, I noticed less redness, but I will continue to use it because that's how much my redness bothers me. So, yeah, I think this is one.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, I think this is another. Gonna be another cult fave.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Dear Media

Dear Media
Yep. It's chocolate chip cookie flavor.

Yeah.
Dear Media
It's gonna be like when you dunk your cookies into milk and then you drink it at the end.
E
Oh, my gosh. I'm so excited to have it.
Dear Media
Yeah, it's like dessert, but it works like a multivitamin. And you're kind of a picky eater these days, so I don't even mind when you have seconds or even thirds because it's basically all greens.

Dear Media
And now back to the show.
Jill Dunn
All right, well, we all know that we have to have our SPF on, but we also want to have some fun with color in the summer. And so we have been reviewing some makeup, and I can't wait to share with you all of the lip products, like, the number of lip products that I have in my purse at any one time.
Carlene Higgins
Oh, I know.
Jill Dunn
I used to think I was bad, but, yeah, it, like, since the lip butter lip peptide treatment era, it is like, like absurd.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
How many lip products I have in my bag at any one time. So I'm going to tell you about one off the hop that I think is just going to be sold out constantly.
Carlene Higgins
Tell me so tell me, tell me.
Jill Dunn
Tell me so my favorite that I have in my purse right now is from Dior, everyone. It's the Dior Lip Glow Butter, and it's got a Dior charm on it.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah. Like, it's actually kind of like an ear piercing on the corner, which I have to say, I saw indeed Labs do it first for our event when we went to the Taylor Swift concert with the founder.
Jill Dunn
Yeah, that was very cute.
Carlene Higgins
Did they rip them off?
Jill Dunn
I don't know. But this is the infamous lip glow, which, of course, reacts with your own skins, with your own. With your own lips. Ph. And we know that Meghan Markle wore Lip Glow original on her wedding day. So I just love that they're having fun with. With bringing out new textures of the lip glow. So the full name of it, everyone, is the Dior Lip Glow butter. Hydrating Gloss Bomb, US$42. 57 in Canada. Five shades. Two are shimmer and three are high shine. I like this butter because it doesn't have shea butter in it. Oh, very hard to find.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
And so I am.
Carlene Higgins
Does your skin react or something?
Jill Dunn
Usually if I wear a shea butter lip balm, like summer Fridays.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
I get little pimples around. I'll get, like, little breakouts around my mouth.
Carlene Higgins
Oh, interesting.
Jill Dunn
Okay, so I'm into this one. And if anybody has a labubu out there, which, of course, is the accessory of the summer, the fashion accessory of the summer, this will look adorable, like, attached to your labubu. Do you know what I'm talking about? So lububus are these little stuffed monster stuffed animals that are very ugly, and they're bipoc shop mart. And the trend is to put these ugly little stuffies on your Birkin, on your Bottega.
Carlene Higgins
All right?
Jill Dunn
And whatever. Like, Rihanna has one. All the Olsen twins are like, put. People are putting them on their row bags. They're Kate bags. Wow. And they're very ugly. I got one for my bestie for her birthday, and she was just like. She didn't get it at first. And I was like, trust me. Put it on your bag when you go to London, and you people will be like. Like, she knows what she's talking about.
Carlene Higgins
Right.
Jill Dunn
And then she brought it to her office, and everybody was, like, losing their mind about it. But I think it's the summer of the accessorized lip glow and the labu boo.
Carlene Higgins
How many shades?
Jill Dunn
5.
Carlene Higgins
Do you really think it adjusts to your skin tone?
Jill Dunn
Yeah, I do.
Carlene Higgins
Really.
Jill Dunn
It's very, very subtle.
Carlene Higgins
I think it's. I think that's such a gimmick, but.
Jill Dunn
Oh, my God. No. I have the regular lip glow in my purse as well, and I wear it all the time because it's. It adjusts to my lip color. It's very subtle. Yeah, but it works.
Carlene Higgins
I think. I think all of that is just a gimmick. I think it looks different on everyone because people have different skin tones. That's my opinion.
Jill Dunn
Anyways, very quickly, before we move on, Glow recipe came out with their version of a lip balm. It's called the glass balm, and it's meant to mimic, like, glass skin, but for your lips, it's just very shiny. A different effect.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
Than the lip butter.
Carlene Higgins
Do you love it?
Jill Dunn
I really like it. Now, I will say that, people, my favorite color is this one. It's. It's the strawberry Bing Suit. If you're someone who likes, like, a fruity flavored lip balm, these are the ones. They're like 20 bucks. But a lot of people have said that these are grainy on them.
Carlene Higgins
Ooh.
Jill Dunn
You know how the road ones were grainy?
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
So it must be a production thing.
Carlene Higgins
Okay. Maybe they're from the same factory every.
Jill Dunn
That's it.
Carlene Higgins
Wow. We have Inspector Jill on the case.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Okay. My products are flying everywhere now. I personally think that we are seeing poppy colors again this summer. I think last summer was more like that kind of clean girl. Very, like, nude tones and lots of bronze. And we're definitely seeing the poppy colors again. So the lippies that I'm obsessed with, and yes, you will pay the price, is the Hermes Rouge. Brilliant, silky lipstick. Shine.
Jill Dunn
Beautiful.
Carlene Higgins
81, US 99 in Canada. It's an absolute splurge. But I'm loving this orange flash. This bright, bright orange. And there's another one I'm wearing today called Rose Gelatine. These are both limited editions for summer.
Jill Dunn
Gorgeous.
Carlene Higgins
This and this one's kind of like a hot pink, which normally, trust me, I would not go for. There's something about. These are lipsticks, by the way.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
Just realized you can't see, but they're very sheer lipsticks. A lot of these, there's something about the texture I don't like. They. They kind of feel dated to me. When it's a shiny lipstick and you get the bright pops of color, it just doesn't look right. It doesn't look modern. There's. There's something about these Hermes ones where it's elevated. Yeah. There's just like. It is moisturizing, and you get this sheen to it, but it doesn't give you this cheesy shine. I can't explain it. It's just exactly the right amount of pigment. Beautiful texture with light to medium color. They're really, really nice.
Jill Dunn
I've tried them as well.
Carlene Higgins
Gorge. Like, I'm going to be wearing these in Italy, hands down. And then it's as if by design, but I know it's not. Chanel Les Beige Healthy Glow Sheer color Sticks. These are blushes.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
And my favorite two shades in the collection. There's one called Reset, one called Refresh. Again, it's the bright corally orange and the bright corally Pink. These are 52 US and 60 in Canada. And they are just the most beautiful, well done pops of color. You know what I mean? Where again, it's like, this could go very wrong. These types of colors but these ones go on beautifully. And I think everybody knows the le bomb.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
You know the cheek highlighter sticks. I think these are a little bit more under the radar. These actual blush sticks that go beautifully together.
Jill Dunn
Anything from the cream formula beige collection from Chanel, I'm in.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
I'm going to talk about a French pharmacy find that's been reinvented for this summer, and I can't believe it took them this long to do it.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
And this is the nukes ul oil. It's the prodigies roll roll on dry oil. US$35.42 in Canada. So everybody knows their. Their iconic oil.
Carlene Higgins
Yep.
Jill Dunn
From Nooks. Typically, it's in a square bottle, glass bottle with a screw top. So it's not that easy to apply. It's. It's more like you kind of put it in your hand, you run it through your hair, you can put it on your body. It's really meant to be like head to toe.
Dear Media
Yeah.
Jill Dunn
So they've revamped it in a rollerball.
Carlene Higgins
Oh, cool.
Jill Dunn
And so this is going to be my summer staple for getting, like, glowy, gorgeous legs. Now, they say you can put it on your face as well as you put it in your hair, whatever, but I just think it's perfect for your legs because you don't have to get your hands all oily necessarily. And they have a gold one as well. The gold one is slightly more expensive, but I do think that it is a winner for summer. And what's so incredible about this product is the scent. It's got seven oils in there. Sabuki oil, argan oil, macadamia oil, rage oil, camellia oil, hazelnut oil, and the sweet almond oil, which I think is what you really.
Carlene Higgins
It smells like the beach, but, like, in a very elevated way.
Jill Dunn
This is genius.
Carlene Higgins
Yeah, it is.
Jill Dunn
That they came out with this.
Carlene Higgins
It looks like one of those old school if you're old enough. You'll remember from the 80s. Like the lip glosses with the rollerball.
Jill Dunn
Yes.
Carlene Higgins
Except it's like jumbo size that you can run on your legs. And even the cursive writing looks like Charlie from back in the day. Like it's giving a bit of 80s vacation ink vibes.
Jill Dunn
Exactly.
Carlene Higgins
I love it.
Jill Dunn
And. But French pharmacy finds still pretty affordable. Affordable. And I thought it was going to be limited edition, but I confirmed this morning it's permanent.
Carlene Higgins
Okay.
Jill Dunn
So if you're in France, you can check it out there. But they have them, of course, in Canada and it's in the US as well, it ships here, so that is going to be a summer staple for me.
Carlene Higgins
Okay. And then the last thing is the Josie Moran golden hour. Whipped argan oil body butter 36 u.s 49 in Canada. I wanted to shout this out because it's an alternative to the Sol de Janeiro. We all know the boom boom cream and the fragrance miss. This whole brand I've been meaning to talk about because they did a big relaunch in 2024.
Jill Dunn
Smart.
Carlene Higgins
Where Josie Moran is like, I think it's 17 years old. Like a pioneer in clean beauty. I'm not saying the pioneer, but she, let's be honest.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
As a model, like she was there in the beginning, the early days.
Jill Dunn
Talk about argan oil.
Carlene Higgins
Right. Talking about argan oil. And so it. The whole line does seem much fresher, newer. And this I would say is a more oil forward cream than the kind of cooling like water base of the boom boom cream. So if you really like it, to me it's almost like a cream to an oil formula. So if you like that kind of really rich formula, maybe you have really dry elbows and knees and stuff like that. I think you would like this. It's got argan oil, avocado oil, shea butter. Super rich, smells like the beach. But it's not as potent.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
As the Sol de Janeiro, which not everybody wants.
Jill Dunn
Yeah.
Carlene Higgins
And I think it's interesting because they just launched fragrance mists and these are new. This summer they're going to be. They're $26 US 38 in Canada. So again, going head to head with Sol de Janeiro. These ones are not as potent smelling. And the other thing that's interesting, it makes me want to try it, is that they are milky formula. Oh, yeah. I thought that sounded kind of cool.
Jill Dunn
We're gonna be slipping and sliding all summer long.
Carlene Higgins
Okay, I'm ready. Let's get into it.
