You know, this game, to me, it's so funny because it's a divisional game, obviously, very important early on in the season, all these things, but the hate that the jets and the Bills have, it's. It. It's just. It makes amazing football.

Let's say this. The hate that Dion and the jets have. Yeah, Dion leads the charge. Yeah, he does. He doesn't like the Jets. He calls them. He's called him like Instagram posers. And, yeah, you know, they want to take the photo. I love that in the game. The games are chippy. There's no doubt they get chippy when they play against the Jets. And look, Jenna, they're going to come into this game with the Jets. The jets, when I say have something to prove, they have a ton to prove.

Because they're trying to rebuild things, what's going on in New York. But, you know, no better way to do that than try to knock off the division champs with Josh Allen coming in. So I think that's the kind of game we're going to have.

I mean, that could be a huge galvanizing moment for a new coach that's trying to build a culture. A culture. And, Mike, this team, this jets team, it reminds me, I know Sean McDermott is not a former player, but it feels very much how McDermott was trying to build the culture back in 2017. Like, you have some talent, you have some pieces, you have that kind of, you know, making sure that you have authority, making sure that you. You have accountability. All these things that I feel like the.

The jets have really been missing, no doubt about it. And it's funny, I remember talking to Micah Hyde right at the end of the season, and he was speaking. He hadn't officially retired, but he was speaking like a guy who had retired. And he was like, let me tell you something. There was no culture when I got here because he came in, in 2017.

And that's what Sean was trying to build. And I. I've said it a million times. When people poo poo, you know, they'll say, oh, culture. Yeah. No, it's real. And it is real in the NFL. And I give Aaron Glenn credit. The reason I think the comparison is a great one with the. With the Bills back then is it's a defensive coach, right? He's coming in, they've got a good running game, some good players on defense, like Kyle Williams was on the Bills, like those kind of guys Right. Hyde and Poyer had started and they've got a quarterback who can play even if he's not considered a franchise guy. It's funny because Tyrod's back on the jets and he's on the jets now as the backup and Justin Fields is starting. And that team, if you remember that team, they would be pretty good some weeks. Then they hit a stretch where they were awful. They got blown out by the Saints. Blown out when McDermott made the bad call to go with Nate Peterman. And then he got everybody back after that blowout, brought Tyrod back and they end up making the playoffs. Now, I think that would be the ideal scenario for the Jets.

To finally break their streak. But the Bills broke theirs that year. Don't. Still don't know really how they did it, but they made it into the playoffs. I think that's the jets goal. But respectability. And that could start on Sunday.

TR with a comment. Good culture. Winning culture is difference between guys who show up for a paycheck and guys who will go the extra mile to get it done. I agree with that so much. And honestly, I think you saw the example of good culture for the Bills on Sunday against the Ravens. Like, they could have quit on Sean McDermott. They could have quit. But with Josh Allen as your quarterback, the belief that that team has and the experience in coming behind from behind. Like, I know that that was wild, that game and how they got it done. But I think there is that belief because there is that backbone of, like, we expect you to play to a certain standard.

Yeah. And it was not going well. I mean, it's funny, we talk about this comeback like it was 35 points. It was never more than 15. But it felt like 50.

Well, because you felt like, okay, the Bills are going to score and then the Ravens are going to go right down the field and score again and then the Bill are going to try to get it back again. But instead they made those plays, but they did not play well, especially on defense. They did make the plays at the end. But to your point, that team has that belief. I think the defense, at least some of those players have the belief that we'll make a play somewhere, we're going to make a play. And it was Ed Oliver and he did. And we'll talk about Ed in a little bit.

But at the same time, they also have the belief that 17 is going to get the job done.

And obviously good to have the NFL MVP on your Team. All right, before we go and look ahead to this week, I want to do the white Claw grab of the game. White Claw really excited. I just think you saw the maturity from him and couple of earlier on in the game against the Ravens had some not so great plays, but when you needed him to show up, he was a huge playmaker. He did. And what I want to see you talk about dependable, it is that consistency. And you're right. Maybe it's not always a huge stack game in terms of having a bunch of yards, having over 100 yards. Maybe it is just in a big moment. Can you make a play? And I feel like Keon is. He's not going to be that super polished guy, but that's okay because he has some of those intangibles to make a catch off off of Dawson Knox deflection and do the types of things that you. You need a guy to step up in that moment to do. So for me, Keon, the White Claw, player of the game in terms of the grab of the game. But where do you think this Bill's offense is at, Mike?

I think they're better than they played. And I say that when they scored 41 points. But you watch the game and isn't that.

Have a little bit more Gimme e easy throws for Josh, because there was just moments where it felt like it was a slog getting anything going.

They weren't running the ball well. They were getting controlled by the defensive line of the Ravens, and the Bilzo line's been pretty good. They were not good early in that game.

And James Cook wasn't getting the holes to run the ball. Nothing seemed to be working well. And then, you know, obviously things came around when they. And I say opened it up, you know, and I'll hear people say, well, you should just play that way all the time. You can't play that way all the time. It is very difficult.

Yeah. I guess I look at it and somebody said about the way the Bill's plan was, and I think their plan was to control the ball, sort of keep the Ravens off the field, wait for them to make a mistake. And I actually heard people go, like, how are you going to do that? I'm like, they just did that in January against them. That's what they did. The difference was in that game, they ran the ball well. In that game, they played really smart. They never got well. They were behind briefly. Then they got the lead, and they were the better team in this game, you know, back and forth, back and forth. But they could not slow down the Ravens. And, you know, I. I've seen a couple comments, and Ken, at his comment about, you know, nothing to do with Henry, the other team's manager, looked way better against the Ravens. Please, Ken. Henry ran for 1900 yards last year.

The Bills did a very good job of against him in the playoff game last year. They played much better. This is a new defense. That is a reason, not an excuse. Some of those guys need to play better. We've talked about it. Bernard's got to play better. You know, Milano's got to play better. Certainly the safety says to play better. They had a rookie in the secondary, and obviously Ed Oliver, we'll talk about him, Played well. But you know, the Ravens are probably the most talented team in the league. Add that in with the mistakes the Bills made. That's how he gave up 40 points. They were lucky. They got 41.

I think going into this week, the comparison has been made that the jets are similar in terms of they have a dual threat quarterback, they have a running back in Bree hall that can be really effective at moments. We were joking, it was like diet Ravens. But how much do you think you can learn from last week against Baltimore and apply some of these same concepts for this Bill's defense?

A (12:02)

Well, the idea that you have to deal with the way they're going to play, a quarterback that can move an offense that wants to run the ball but can throw it, that has an explosive player at wide receiver. Right. I mean, Trey Flowers is a good play, very good player. And then you got Wilson, Garrett Wilson for the jets, similar guys, speed guys.

And you know, look, they have, they can run the ball. They don't have Derrick Henry. They can dual threat. He ain't Lamar. Yeah, but the idea of the way they want to play and you're playing them at the jets, where we've seen it, Janet, the Bills have had some tough games there. Offensively, they struggle. So it really comes down to how well the defense is going to play. So, you know, Ed talked about it. He's like, we sort of saw it. Now we got to do better against it. We'll see. So, Ed Oliver, in case you did not hear or just joining us, he did not practice today, this being Thursday, did not practice in a walking boot. Janet, what's going on?

I would say popped up on the injury report. Was listed as an ankle injury, did not practice, was in a walking boot, had a scooter as well. And we, Dan and I were in Orchard park on Tuesday. What day is it? Wednesday. He talked to the media. Everything seemed normal. So from last night to today, I mean, that's. That's real life. You can injure yourself wherever. We don't know. We're just speculating. But that is a huge concern of mine because Ed played so well for you on Sunday and he made the type of plays that can kickstart a defense, can kickstart an entire team, but also for him to just build that confidence. So what that looks like this upcoming week, I mean, the walking boot just scares you just fresh out of the gate. So that is absolutely something we're gonna have to wonder about.

Okay, but you've seen Ed, first of all, he's playing ping pong. Our friend Matt Bovet saw him. You know, because when we go in the locker room on practice days, you know the players and they have ping pong table there and he was, he was playing it. He didn't have the scooter.

So I think, again, it's staying healthy for him. But he was one of the players on defense that I thought had it had a pretty positive day.

I think it shocked the Bills. I don't think they want to play him that many snaps. I really don't.

I think it evolved into that type of game because the Bills needed every second, literally of the clock they could. But, yeah, I think they were probably not expecting.

I talked to him after the game. He was in a great mood. He was like, the celebration was awesome. It felt like the Super Bowl. And then he goes, I wish it was. Yeah, we get it. Right? We get it. I think for him to never have experience being first of all. Has the man ever had a home game play for the Chargers?

I mean, they played in that soccer stadium for a while. They play in la, where half the crowd is somewhere else. When I say that I. Yes, I am picking on the Chargers because, well, they moved. You know, they used to be in San Diego, a lot of those things. He got the full effect of Bill's mafia. And being on that team for his.

First game, you say that, and that was such a cool experience for any player. Mr. Brightside, the crowd, the last second field, I can't even imagine what that was like for him because he went from a team that really hasn't been able to capitalize on rallies and be able to actually pull off a win. Yeah, that type of environment, the type of ending that it was, and to beat a team that is obviously one of the top contenders in the afc, it's probably.

Honestly, he's got to go back to being at Ohio State. I mean, he's got to go back to that because he hasn't had that in the NFL. And so he was thrilled. And he. I think they've done it so Many times. That's the difference to me. I think I have faith in the linebackers. They can have an off night against a great team and every mistake you make, they pounced on. Yeah, they really did. I trust Bernard and I think Milano is healthy. It just. It just did not go well for them. Secondary worries me. It does. And I do think at some point it evolves. I gotta tell you, I thought Dorian Strong hung in there for a rookie in his first game, sixth round pick. I thought he played okay. He's physical. I like that element. I think. I think it's going to be hard. I'm not saying starter. I'm saying I think it's going to be hard to keep Dorian Strong off the field. Field. I think they're going to want him to play. Trey will get himself back on the field and obviously at some point Max Harrison's going to do that. I think Dorian Strong, seeing his opportunity here and I think he's going to do well.

I think he did way better than I was expecting. I was honestly shocked that the Ravens didn't pick on him more. Yeah, like, it seemed like an obvious.

He's been out since injuring his groin this past summer, so that I think is notable. Now, do you expect Trey to have another week of practice and then get out on the field or what? Do you think there's a possibility he's out there Sunday putting you on the spot?

Yeah, I mean, I think he's getting ready.

And it's coming off what he had. And I think I. Maybe I'm wrong. I think Strong Strong may have shown them enough that they would feel pretty good playing him against the jets team that wants to run. So the physical corner is not a terrible thing to have on the field and then get Trey healthy before he's back. They didn't put him on the ir. Well, first of all, it's busy there because Max is already there now Tyler Bass is there, but I think putting Trey out a week early against a team that is more of a run team than a past team, I wouldn't think they would do it. I think get him on the field, let him practice, and may. Excuse me. Maybe he comes back the next week at the same time, you know, the way that these guys are like, if he's good. So we don't know obviously in total what his health is, just being out there practicing. But I think keep in mind he didn't practice for almost a month.

So it was a long time to get him back on the field. Let's see where he is. But I would expect Strong to start. I would expect him to start and then go from there.

I'm curious what the timeline will be with Trey and if Dorian can do enough to hang on to that job because that is going to be really fascinating to watch how the Bills handle that now. Gregory Wright saying, better yet, what's with the Bills? When are they going to stop getting hurt? End of these injuries. Look, this is the NFL. This is life. I will say I hear the concern because this summer it felt like the injuries were rampant in a way that we haven't seen in years. But I do think now that we're a regular season, I think some of that stuff is also just playing the long game, making sure guys can get out there and stay out there. But the injuries are just, they have been an issue. They've been challenging. Reminder, Max Harrison is on ir, so that means he'll miss at least the first four games of the season. So him slow playing, getting back out there if he does essentially make his way into the starting. Yeah, I think that will take a lot of time too. Just because of the missed time that he has had.

Yeah, I mean, look, it's, it's a work in progress in that secondary. You know, they, the safeties were bad. The safeties were bad. It didn't help.

Were you surprised that or Taylor rat. I mean, Cole Bishop. I think Cole Bishop was in a tough position because there was so much attention on him. Derrick Henry, like some of those tackles, the blitz that was from like 28ft away or yards or away.

Play I was to say. I, I, I'm assuming that's broken play, whatever or just something didn't.

But if you are, you know, they have talked about it. What does Sean say? There is no position where there needs to be more coordination between two players than the two safeties on offense or defense. He says if you're talking about two players together and it's got to be. I think it's tough for Taylor rap. I do think it is. I just don't think Cole Bishop is there yeah. Yet. And it is interesting because, you know, when demar was starting, and I am not an advocate for Demar to be the starter. I think he is good where he is. But we talked about that floor that he set and he's tough and he makes tackles.

Missed tackles. Yes. Before you comment. Yes. He, like every other player, misses tackles, but they kind of knew he'd be in the right spot. The problem is it took away some of the creativity that Bobby Babich and McDermott can have on defense. So I think that becomes an issue at that safety position, certainly for Rap, because they don't have that cohesiveness. They don't have that confidence in the second safety that they need to have.

Do you feel like there could be any emotional hangover? Like, I know that sounds silly, but I feel like I'm still recovering from a long, like it was a emotional, action packed game at the end. It was a long night. Like all these things. Like, do you feel like there is anything in terms of that?

No, no, I really don't. I mean, I trust this team. I trust Josh Allen that way. I have not seen, you know, back in the Rex Ryan days, even when he was with the Jets, Rex coached where it was like, what is that? All gas, no break. Like that.

C (32:34)

What's that was what? All gas, no break.

He would get them all fired up and they would knock somebody off and they would get a win. Right. And they would do it that way and then the next week come out flat and you're like, what's going on because that's honestly not a. Wasn't a great roster and a sign of. That's not the way you coach. I think Shawn McDermott, I think Terrell Bernard, Josh Allen, Khil Shakir, James Cook. I think these guys, the offensive line, they are wired to be like put that in the rear view. Yeah, they did celebrate. Like we were all on the field the end of that game for a regular season game. That win was wild. Josh is running. Yeah, like you know, they, they celebrated more than I've. I honestly more in any game than I've seen since. That's not a playoff game. Yeah, even that when they beat the Chiefs last year, they, they celebrated. They were happy. The game ended obviously ended right at the end if that makes sense. Like the Chiefs game, they had gotten the interception late. They were up by nine and the game was over. But like Dawson Knox, it was awesome. Like that was different. But they celebrate, they have fun and it's a division game and they're heading down there. I, I don't, I don't worry about. Do you worry about the hangover?

I don't. I kind of feel like now that we're into the week less so. But my fear was and I know people like there's some comments being like it's week one and but my thing was it was A, a very emotional game but B, like it was a long game. It was a hard fought game. You were getting the crap kicked out of you and then you had to turn it on and. And like the players were talking about how sore they were and at this point in the season your. Their bodies aren't like used to that.

I heard a player talk about you are never more sore than you are after the first game. Going into that second game I, I genuinely believe really for all of them in that case.

So yeah, I believe that though. So that was what my fear was, was just. And I don't think this is a trap game. I don't think this is a letdown spot. There were a couple of comments asking about that. I just think it's. It's a team that like the Bills still have a lot to sort out and the jets are playing with like a feisty kind of attitude that to me it's always been close games. I shouldn't say always but it has the propensity to be that between these two teams. And that's where I guess my fears would come from.

Ray did get after. He didn't have a great game against the Ravens. I would expect him to kind of look a little bit more sharp. But James Cook, he just got paid. And I think that really does motivate him in a way that might sound trivial, but I think he wants to prove that he was worth all that money. And I think there's the opportunity for this Bills team to go out and do that, and I just think that Cook can put it together. He had the heck of a play on the screen.

So, like, things like that where I'm like, I think this is a game that Cook could be a really big impact player.

I was thinking about in a game like that, there were so many big plays, big offensive plays. You know, deflect a pass to Keon. Josh's throw to Kincade before the half. All these plays, and then that Cook one sort of forgotten in a way.

Because in many cases, that would have been the best play. Biggest play of the game.

Great on that play. And then they ended up scoring. So, yeah, I'm watching for him, too. I think it helps the O line. By the way, it's kind of lame times with New York football still, but I think the jets have something going there and I think the fans will be fired up. I think it'll be a very good atmosphere for the game. Going to be supposed to be great weather, so I think it's a tight game. Closer game. I think it's the Bill's problem down there has been. And then from there, I think this is really a day for the defense to kind of get back on track. I think they really struggled, but they had a similar look against the Ravens in terms of what they're going to see, and I think that can help them a little bit just to be more prepared for Sunday. I think this is a close game, but I do think that the Bills pull this one out. I have the Bills winning 27, 21. I just think that the Bills are the more polished team, they're the more confident team, they're the more competent team. And because of that, I have the Bills winning.
