The stadium, spectacular and real and spectacular. And the players reaction to it. There was also practice. There was also injuries that we have to talk about. Yeah, it rained. Of course it downpoured. It doesn't only rain. At St John Fisher in Rochester, an insert joke about a putting in a dome.

Because it rained.

This. This isn't a dome. No, I checked when I walked in. I just wanted to make sure. I will say this. I said it the first time I came in. I say it again when you walk in, it kind of has that dome feel to it.

And then you're looking to go. Yeah, the window's open. It's pretty big window. But we had come in here for a tour and it's awesome, right?

It's big and empty. We had a house full today. Fans, players, football on the field, on the grass field. And there was a lot of energy in the place.

Over 51,000 fans showed up. To quote Allen Iverson, we're talking practice, all practice.

And it was cool. And I got to look at the faces of the fans as they're walking in here because many of them, look, they had seen some videos and you said it the first time we were here. Doesn't do the place justice.

It really doesn't. The feeling. And again, when we saw it, there was still metal being constructed. There was still drywall that needed to be finished.

But it still looked mostly like this, correct? Yeah.

[B]

But there was the fence. There was the sense. And some people commented, like, oh, it doesn't, you know, feels sterile. It was. And I said it. And I think you were on vacation. And I talked to Jen about it. It's like when you're remodeling a house and you pull everything back to the studs or you're building a house from scratch. It doesn't feel like a house until you have a home, until you have all your furniture in, until you have all your family and friends over.

It's the family and friends. Yeah.

It felt like a home today.

[A]

Yeah. Because it felt. Well, first of all, let's start with what Dan and I felt like when we pulled up to the place. Because again, we had been here for the tour, but that was very different. Felt like we were at a road game. Very strange, because even though we're across the street from the other place, personally, I literally covered over 500 games across the street. So I've had a moment or two there. It did not feel like I was across the street from the other stadium. I felt like we were in la or we were in.

It really did.

Just said it was in Buffalo and they said it felt like la.

[B]

Especially once you walked in.

[A]

It had that new car smell.

[B]

Yes. It really did feel like you weren't in western New York.

[A]

Yeah. I mean, it is so, so, so different. Not just here on the field, which you see, because I will say this, you're at the Ralph and you're in your seat and you're looking forward. It's cool. It was a great atmosphere from the seats forward.

Yep.

It's every other part of it that it was just dated and it wasn't NFL quality. That and this place. So I walked around the concourses and we have a little bit of video of that, too. I walked around the concourses just to watch people. And there's more room, there's more space in the wintertime. It's heated. It's easier to get from place to place. There are places you can go, hang out with your buddies, have a beer, watch a game.

So many. There's a Labat sky deck that you can see. There's viewfinders to see downtown Buffalo. There's so much to do here. The outside, the dj, the Family center, the Bisons, all of it was just so jarring. In a good way.

[A]

Yeah. But to see it in action right now, look, before we even get to it, I know it's expensive to come here. A lot of people may even comment the tickets are expensive. They are more expensive. It is a much nicer restaurant you're going to here. Yes, the food's going to be expensive. I. I've seen some of the things about food, like the smoker and everything. They got a lot of stuff going on, I got to tell you. And you guys know, if you've been on the road, like, this is the way it is in a lot of NFL stadiums.

It is.

And. And it is, unfortunately, a higher price thing to come in here than it was across the street.

[B]

Yeah.

[A]

That's the reality of having a team. And I know some people don't think it's fair, but that is real life.

Exactly. When I was in college at Fredonia Shout out Blue Devils, my roommates had season tickets because they were so cheap. And that's what you could do.

[A]

The team was bad, too.

[B]

Correct. This is the cost, the price of being a relevant franchise.

[A]

Yeah. I talked to a bunch of people today, and we're going to hear from some of the fans about what they thought of the place. But they were, like, making their decisions. They made a financial decision.

[B]

Yeah.

[A]

One is like, oh, I'm gonna get this. I'm gonna go on a week's vacation. This is like a car payment plus.

[B]

Yeah.

[A]

Because you're doing. You're spending a lot of money. It's a big commitment. But I would say that. Well, here's an example. I went around, talked to some fans. Here's some of what they had to say about what they thought. And they were all season ticket holders who had a chance to be here, what they thought of the place. Chilled.

I looked at him. This is his absolute world, and I got chilled, literally. It's hard to articulate the difference between

the old stadium and this one. When you come in, it's breathtaking. It feels like you're in a big city. It feels like an NFL stadium.

[B]

Oh, my God, it's fantastic. The whole facility just.

It's a dream come true.

[A]

Cool. That gentleman here with his son, they have their seats. They got a great view of the games. He was at the old place. Like, he said, I'm gonna miss the old stadium. But he's so looking forward to this place.

[B]

And then we got to talk to some of the players afterwards to go from the fans. I think that's a nice segue from what we had heard and kind of talked to players at training camp about what it was like and what are you expecting? Some players had never even been here before. Spencer Brown talked about it last week, about how much he was so looking forward to that grass.

So keep in mind, we're standing here, we're on turf, we're on turf, artificial grass.

[B]

They are very particular. And then we are not supposed to be. When I Go to here, Michael.

[A]

That's the grass. Am I going to get in trouble for being on the grass? They were mad about anybody being on the grass.

So here's what the players had to say after the practice about their first taste of, of the new Highmark stadium. And stick around for the end because Christian Benford is worth every second of your time.

It's awesome. I know everybody loved the Ralph and what was over there across the street, but this is a whole new atmosphere and it's awesome to call it home. And I look forward to seeing how it is on a normal game day.

Oh, it's amazing. First time opening the stadium for everybody. Even the people in the four hundreds was going crazy. So I'm loving it here and this stadium is going to be rocking.

I'm on tick tock. I mean, and I'm scrolling. That's a duck. Oh my God. Okay, now I go in. I said, where am I going? XYZ appointed. I see stuff in the stadium. Like, dang. Like inside. I'm okay, this is nice. You feel me? This is nice. Then I walk around, I go to lunch. Nice. Say, okay, this is, this is, this

This is nice to go. There we go. I said, where the locker room at, man. I go in that locker room, phone went out quick. You know, like the dance, watching kids play. You like this. That's how it was. So it was epic to see this firsthand.

So Christian Benford is becoming a national treasurer and needs to be protected at all costs.

He does this bit, right? Christian, we know it's a bit. He got, hey, you got a second? No. And he'll say, you got a second? And he goes, nah. Or no, whatever. And then he looks at you and he starts laughing. And then he talks to us and he's, he's really engaged with, when he talks to us.

He really is. And I just, I loved him walking us through his day.

Food noise. I, I was talking to one of the other media members. It was like when you went over to your friend's house the first time and their, their family had more money. And they had all the snacks in the pantry. And they had a pool. They had a pool and two TVs. And they were like.

And the basement was fixed up. It was so, like, I want to live here.

Like Spencer Brown said, talks about the grass, that he goes.

He might sleep.

Might sleep out here tonight. It was a really cool first experience. We talked about the. The dry runs, the test, you know, the. The dress rehearsals here because they will have a preseason game next week. On Saturday, they have another open practice and then the final preseason game. The sound system, to me, was insane.

It is so loud.

And then to add in what the fans will bring, it will absolutely be a home field advantage.

Yeah.

Of what that sound system can be. To make a point not to, like, nitpick. The Jumbotrons are.

They're not that big.

[B]

They're not that big. The sound system is what really brings it home for me.

Yeah. They didn't want. They said they didn't want the oversized screens.

They thought the focus is on the field, not on the screen. I mean, they're large screens, but nothing crazy in that way.

That to me, is what was very.

Shocking. Okay, let's talk about the stadium now.

Let's talk about what happened to.

Well, first of all, it rained, of course. And it downpoured.

Yeah. And it rained five of the seven days at Fisher.

And Josh Allen came out in the Nickel City alternate uniform as if there was any doubt.

So, Pete Gwelly, I'm gonna apologize to you if you're watching. President of the team. I know you gave me all the stuff. And he's. It's his job. This is what they're doing. I just don't like him. And even. Let me tell you something. When Josh Allen doesn't look good. I've said this to you before.

He makes. When I first saw the punter in them, I was okay.

It still, like, it looks like a USFL uniform with a Power Rangers helmet.

Mike Giardi texted us, said it looked like Memphis.

Yeah.

It's like when we're shooting something and I'll say to you about the lighting. And I'm like, I'll say, dan, Jenna doesn't look good.

It's tough. Yeah, that's.

Okay. Josh doesn't look like Josh Allen. Josh Allen comes out in a red jersey or white jersey, looks like Josh. I just don't like them. They're going to wear them twice during the year.

Anyhow, so he wore that tonight. The quarterbacks all wore it.

He went all around the stadium playing catch with the fans again. Just always a cool moment to see him make that connection even amongst 51,000 people to still have that time.

As for the practice, we'll go to the bad first, then the good because I do have a good two injuries too. Ty Johnson went down, did not look good. Kind of grabbed his back of his right leg. He was on a simple one on one drill with a defensive back. Went down, had to be helped into the locker room with trainers. Wasn't really talking about under your own power and things like that. He was uncomfortable with his arms around the trainers as he went back to locker room. He did not return. Joe Brady did not have an update on Ty Johnson's health or Center. Connor McGovern also left practice with trainers. Did not return.

I mean, obviously the hope is that these are minor things we won't know. We did not get a chance to talk to Dr. Dion Dawkins after practice.

Good point.

Because you know he usually he's one. One for one on his updates of players being okay. I'm not trying to joke about this. Like McGovern. Ty's a very important player in a smaller role.

Yep.

McGovern is. Starts every play.

[B]

And McGovern is also as tough as they come.

Yeah.

So we'll have to keep an update on that.

Could be nothing. But this is what happens.

The good news, I once again saw Caleb Elam's or run step for step. Elarms.

I know it's not an easy name

to say Elarms or go step for step on a go route with James Cook. Another incomplete pass. Great coverage. It's just impressive. It continues to be impressive stuff to see from the rookie. We know he can hit because he laid out Dalton Kincaid.

And to know he can also cover is really encouraging.

We also got a chance to talk to Terrell Bernard.

Yes.

Couple of things there. One, he's impressed with Ilaram zur. He's like he's got good instincts.

Still's never smiled.

But with Bernard he was asked about how you doing and he had to me that kind of like good, good. I think. I think he's healthy.

I agree.

And I think he's feeling like himself again. He's gonna need to be. He knows it wasn't good enough last year. Injuries played a big part of it.

Yeah.

He's got. He's got people nipping at him. Right. I mean, for playing time, for starting positions, whatever. But if he's healthy, he's going to be. I think he's going to be a starter. Yeah, but he's got to be healthy and be out there.

Well, we've seen when he's healthy, he's a difference maker. He's a playmaker, he makes impactful plays, which is something this defense is desperately in a need for. And the last thing, and this is something that I think we've stressed time and time again, but it's worth repeating. The Josh Allen to DJ Moore connection has exceeded. I understand it's training camp, but I was skeptical about what DJ Moore had left in his tank. And if it is anything that we have seen in training camp, it has been impressive. The connection has almost felt automatic. Anytime Josh throws at number two, it's completed. The ball never touches the ground. You probably see on social media, the Bills posted the clip again. Another deep shot, another in between C.J. gardner, Johnson and Christian Benford. Just another connection. And any time he's shown the downfield ability, the big plays that we've seen in training camp, but he's also been this, like the safety blanket, too. He's been both. Anytime Josh is just like, oh, there's DJ on the sideline. Catch it. We haven't seen anything like this in a long, long time.

I'm going to be curious of how Joe Brady plays this during the preseason. Yeah, I mean, you're going to need to see defensive guys out on the field. This team hasn't played how much you give away. You do have an advantage in that first game that people haven't seen this version of the Bills defense. But offensively, I'm wondering how much does DJ Moore play? Does he. I mean, I think he's going to play some. How much does Josh Allen play? How much do you get? The two of them out there together, we all know this. If those guys are playing, it's with the starting offensive line line. So that'll be. It'll be interesting to see that. I know some people are like, oh, just set him aside and all. And it has looked good. It's different in game speed, so it'll be a little bit different, but it has been good. You're going to see some headlines of practice about four interceptions for Josh today.

You know, yeah. One went. He tried to fit it into tight coverage to Josh Palmer. Bounced off of his hands right into demars. Yeah. I still don't know who's going to be wide receiver 3. Keon's had inconsistent moments again. We know what training camp is for Keon. Josh Palmer has flashed. I think yesterday we gave him the. The pass catcher of the day for the last practice. Didn't look great today. And then Skyler Bell had another easy drop.

Easy drop right in his hands. And I know sometimes nobody seems to

Now we mentioned Benford. I say getting beat on that play. Also had an interception. They threw a flag. I didn't see what the call was, but Benford had one of them. Then he's talked about the deflection on the interception. So kind of sloppy, but I don't think there's any big take off of that. The fact of the interceptions.

Well, when we're recording this on Saturday is a preseason game that's going to be interesting to see because this is a controlled environment. It's a preseason game. No matter how much you put players in and out, they play that like football. Tackle to the ground, all of that, that happens in a game. So we'll see what we're learning a little bit about what Joe's plan is. I know there's been a lot of talk about injuries and there's stories out there about causes of injuries at times. I don't think there's anything that Joe Brady did that caused the two injuries tonight. This is football they are going to play. You can talk about the way maybe it was handled in the past. They had injuries, they've had injuries this year. Sometimes you get lucky. You know, I saw Laramie Tunsall tears. Bicep.

I mean, on a simple pass rush play that he's done a thousands of times in his career.
