Now, the national media, we wake up tomorrow on Tuesday, and it's going to be the Buffalo Bills are going to the Super Bowl.
B
You don't think so?
C
No, I was really upset. I was thinking about the game during the game. I'm just bummed out that the Bills super bowl window was closed during the offseason.
B
Oh, I know.
C
Cause they'd be a real contender.
B
So they're not allowed to go.
C
I don't think so.
B
I think the league, they'd have to apply.
A
That's a good tweet. You got a tweet, though.
C
I did.
B
Oh, the king of content.
C
And there's the open.
A
Foreign.
B
This is the Buffalo plus podcast, brought.
C
To you by Connors and Ferris.
A
All right, welcome back to the Buffalo plus podcast, presented by Connors and Ferris. Mike Catalana, Dan Fates, I am Jenna Cottrell. Please be sure to, like, comment, subscribe and share. After the Bills big win over the Jags, 47 to 10. The final score in this one, Mike, the Bills are three and. Oh, I can hear Dan breathing. He wants to talk, but I'm just.
C
Trying to said she's not gonna be able to sleep tonight.
A
I just. I was down on the field. I was shooting this game, and the energy, the atmosphere was just incredible. The fans were so into it, so loud coming out the tunnel. I got chills when they were doing the national anthem, that Monday Night Football, that prime time feel. Why are you laughing at me?
B
I'm not you.
A
I hear you scoffing. Whatever. Either way, big picture, Mike, this team is 3 0. They have the Ravens up next. But 30 is tough to do.
B
It was funny last week when we were in Miami. It was like, what do you mean? The game's not going to come down to the final minutes, the final plays. Right. Because we had gotten so used to that. Even though they were winning most of the games, everything was tough. And then they took care of Miami. That was a blowout. I don't know what you would call this thing. This was a demolition. I mean, it was over at halftime. They knew it. You know who knew it before everybody else was Trevor Lawrence. The play before half when he just ran to the sidelines.
C
Surrender cobra.
B
Threw it out of bounds like he knew this was over. And you talked about the crowd, Jenna. No wonder the crowd was into it from the first drive. They walked down the field and they did a little bit, a little bit with the run there. And then Josh Allen just started dicing them apart.
A
Unbelievable.
C
We talked about it last week down in Miami. This Was another ass kick.
B
Yeah.
C
That this was. That's what this was. There's no other way to get about all sides of the game. They were just dominant. And on that opening drive, although Sean McDermott is too conservative for you guys, tough night because they went for it twice on fourth down. Great play calling. And that was one of the first things that clicked to me a lot to get to. But I think McDermott is more aggressive on fourth down because he trusts his play caller and the OC more than the previous guy because Joe Brady has been dialing up some awesome 4th down conversions. The one to Shakir was great. On the fourth down, they had another one too. I just. I think that when you have more confidence in your oc, you're more inclined to go for it on fourth down.
A
Yeah. And you're really confident in your quarterback. Josh Allen, four touchdowns tonight through to 10 different receivers. I feel like we kind of not joked, but like everybody eats is cute unless it's not working. But tonight and throughout this season so far, it has worked so well for this team. And to get 10 different guys the ball, I mean, that's hard for any defense.
B
I think you were the only person on the field that didn't catch a pass.
A
That was close. That James Cook one. That could have been another touchdown.
B
Yeah.
C
James, you almost got the Ty Johnson one.
B
Yeah.
A
Yes. That was wild because after. After he scores the touchdown, all the cameras kind of, you know, you. You swarm to the ball. But I kind of got like picked up by two people on either side of me and just pushed into everything. That was cool.
B
At least you getting. Didn't get tackled. This. Yeah, let's talk about this. Jacksonville attempted.
A
Our light died. It's fine.
B
It's fine. Always goes. Jacksonville attempted to play man defense. I get it. It's dumb to play man against Josh. Then when he had openings, he would take off. But it's one thing to play man defense, and this offense is not designed for multiple players to get open. In this case, honestly, I don't think it really would have mattered if they would have tried to move into zone. I don't think it would have mattered in this one. It was so creative. Josh had players open all the time. There's only so many players you can guard. You know why that is? Because he'll throw to any of them.
A
Yes.
B
You really started to get the feeling like, who else could he possibly throw to? In the first half, he had thrown to 10, I think, and completed all the passes. I thought they were. I thought Brady Put him in great positions all the time. Thought he mixed the run in the pass a little bit. And then he just started to think, why not? Josh is just going to dice him up.
C
You had the tweet, I think, at halftime that you said last week was a Bobby Babich masterclass. This was a Joe Brady masterclass performance. Every single problem that the Jags tried to throw at Josh Allen and the Bills offense, they had the answer like, it's a bold strategy just not covering James Cook. It's a bold strategy and it just didn't work out for the Jags. It's dangerous when he starts catching the ball because he looked like a complete back. But just. You're right, Everybody eats is really cute. And then when it really works well, you're like, maybe this. Maybe this can be the formula. And I thought. I was very impressed by Josh. Really hadn't had to do all that much. He took over in the second half against Arizona, but this was a game that Josh just dominated from the start.
A
Yeah, he did. And after the game he kind of talked about that everybody eats philosophy and how he kind of mentioned in there like it's, it's these, these group of receivers, it doesn't matter if I only get the ball once or twice. He was saying how they always want to show up and that makes it a little bit more special.
B
He also said something about when nobody cares about their stats.
A
He did say that.
B
Yeah.
A
Take that of which you wish.
B
Josh, I love that he puts in little lines. But the other thing, who could that be? And the other thing he talked about was Khalil Shakir. Who? Dog 39 attempts to Shakir 39 targets. Going back into last season, including the playoffs, he's caught 37 of those 39 passes and. Well, we'll let Josh tell you what he thinks of his wide receiver.
D
I mean, I can say this over and over. He's a freaking football player. He is like emphasis on football. He loves the game. He does things the right way. He's so selfless in his approach throughout the week. He may get two passes during practice. And again, he just keeps finding ways to be in the right spot at the right time and he makes plays and that's just kind of his mo. I freaking love him. I'm so proud of him and his trajectory that he's done in his career so far.
C
PC Josh.
A
I freaking love him.
C
Guy frickin freaky football player.
A
Yeah, my, my Yak king.
B
Yeah, he's just.
A
He's one of those players that I think even going into the season, I picked him to lead the Bills in terms of total yards. And credit to you, I have two. Credit to me's two because I called it Ray Davis, touchdown Buffalo plus live. I said, I, I don't have the receipts because I'm not insane like Dan and have them prepared, but I will get them either way. I just think we kind of undersold how smooth Khalil Shakir is, and we knew that going into the season, but he's just. The ball is like a magnet to his hand. He's just always so poised. And then the yards after the catch, it's kind of astounding. We've seen him in so many games kind of pinball his way, stay up. He gets the tough yards, he gets the touchdown like just a phenomenal player.
C
I remember his rookie year, seeing how well he caught passes like he was a veteran. The way that he's just trusting his hands. And then he had a couple drops his rookie year.
A
I forget about that. But yeah, and you were like, oh.
C
He'S, you know, he can't catch, hang on to the ball. And then all of a sudden it's like, he hasn't dropped anything.
B
Yeah.
C
And Josh talks about it. I know, I've said. And I know people want him to be this true number one wide receiver. He's not the prototypical number one wide receiver guy. Form, physicality, all of those things. Like, he's not that body type that if you were to make a wide receiver say he's the true number one. But he checks all the boxes of doing all the things, being dependable again. Yeah, I'm coming around to the point of he's not a prototypical number one wide receiver, but he's Josh's guy. He's the number one guy for Josh right now, and it's paying off.
A
But maybe he's like the Terrell Bernard to Tremaine Edmonds. Like Tremaine Edmonds has. He was built in a lab to be a number first round draft pick to be that guy. And then now it's like, oh, God.
B
Credit to you again.
A
Credit to me.
C
She's not gonna be able to sleep tonight. She's just on cloud nine.
A
I know, but I just think you're right. Like when you look at him and even Sean McDermott was asked about it, I think it was at the home opener of, like, you know, what stands out to you about Khalil Shakir? And he's like, yeah, look like he's not the fastest. He's not the tallest, but that guy.
B
He'S a football player.
A
He's a football player.
B
That's what he says.
C
A freaking football player.
B
So he threw four touchdowns in the first half to four different players.
A
It was ridiculous.
B
He got Dalton Kincaid in the end zone. Now, I tweeted out, I thought Josh had had in the two games. The pass to James Cook and the pass to Ty Johnson were just incredible. Rolling to his right on the line. But Dan, you know where we are in the press box. And Jenna almost got run over by Kincaid right up there. I'll throw one in the bin when we get back. You could see him and you mentioned right away, Kincaid comes all the way back across the field. Josh looks, pauses, and then just throws a seed into that spot. Perfect for the touchdown. First touchdown of the year for K.
C
It was another one of those classics. Josh, throw it away. No, Josh. No, Josh. Perfect. Josh, way to go. It was the Steph Curry pulling up from 40ft and draining it.
B
But he did look a couple at least once. That's what I'm saying.
C
He had enough composure to be like, no, I'm not gonna fit it there. No, not there. I'll rifle this one in here.
B
And he also threw one to Keon Coleman. Now, Keon did not play in the first quarter. A lot of you noticed we were watching, wondering was it just scheme where they go in for something different. But it was a punishment.
C
Correct.
B
Because of his. Did he say lateness or not on time? A time issue.
C
It was a tardiness. He said it was an on time issue.
B
Sean would use the word tardiness.
A
He would, but he didn't. He said it was an on time, on time issue.
C
He's using it as a learning example and said that he was very happy with the way that he responded to it.
B
So he ended up getting his first touchdown in this one and his only catch.
A
Yeah, I only laugh because his celebration. I think this is also very funny where he throws the ball in his celebration, then, like runs back is like, oh, actually I want this.
C
Yeah. We actually caught up with Keon in the locker room after the game to ask him about what it was like celebrating with his teammates. And here's what Keon had to say.
E
I mean, it's great. They took a little long to get over there. I can't really dance, so I ain't have much of a celebration plan. But, you know, usually I'd let somebody spike the ball, but with them probably would have went in the stands and I would have never Got my ball back. So I was like, nah, let's just hold on to that one.
A
Yeah.
C
So that was part of Keon's celebration was the fact of I can't really dance. So that was where he came up with that. But he also had to keep the ball.
A
Yes.
B
So he wanted to keep the ball. That's a rare wide receiver to admit he can't dance.
C
Also, we've seen him dance pretty good.
A
He dances, I feel like quite a bit at practice. Quite a bit. Interesting.
B
Maybe he didn't have a touchdown. Well, he would have had to have a touchdown celebration ready.
A
Well, anyhow, some of the guys are weird about that, though. They say they don't prepare because it jinxes them.
C
Collins does.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
He does a dance of the day or whatever on TikTok.
B
Yeah, yeah.
C
And he did it.
A
Phenomenal. TikTok follow, by the way. Yeah, yeah. All right. You mentioned earlier, James Cook. I liked your tweet about. We're seeing kind of the evolution of him. He has been phenomenal so far.
C
All around back. And he had a great blitz pickup after that where Josh almost got killed. Classic. Josh just kind of sidestepped the rush. And then James came and picked up the blocker that was coming behind Josh at the time. So catching the ball in the backfield, I know he dropped that touchdown. It would have been a phenomenal catch. It was a great throw. It would have been a next level catch. Like, that's not what I expect him to make.
B
He should have made.
A
He could make that catch. I was gonna say I expect him to make that catch.
B
I don't know if it. I don't know how they specifically listen, catches as drops. That was. He had to reach out for it. It caught his hands. I don't know if on the official. I don't know his number. You know, I have an affinity for the wheel route. And he ran it.
A
You really do.
C
And it was with Curtis Samuel.
B
Motion to motion.
C
That way.
B
Yeah.
C
And then he went that way.
B
Yes. And he was there.
C
Joe Brady was in his bag. But then they scored again.
B
Yeah, Brady was great. And I mentioned it in the beginning, but the offensive line has played so well. They were dominant again in this one. Two straight games without giving up a sack. Yes. Josh can move around. Sometimes he runs into sacks, you know, depending on what happens, but they're not turning it over. And the offensive line is playing really, really well.
A
All right. You mentioned the sacks. How many times did the Bills get after Trevor Lawrence today?
B
Yeah, they chased him off the field. I mean, Von. I think we got to start thinking that Von is showing a lot more.
C
He was held in check for most of the game.
B
Yeah.
C
But Brandon Bean said he's the closer. Like that. That's where you need him to do. And he got the sack. And that celebration. You're on the field. They're up 27 points.
B
Yeah.
C
And the entire field was on the field to celebrate. Like. Like they were going to the NC Championship.
A
It happened right here. And then they celebrated all the way down there, which I was like, damn it. That's so far away.
B
How informative. Informative.
A
No, they have no idea to tell people the tunnel is this way.
B
Yeah.
A
The one tunnel.
B
Yeah.
A
Okay. Okay. Yeah.
B
Behind us. They can't see a tunnel.
A
They can't.
C
The tunnel's over there.
A
It's over there.
B
But look at the guys who got sacked. Ingram got a sack case, Solomon, Casey, two Hill. And then they. Well, anyhow, the defense played great. You know, they. They were dominant in the game also.
C
Yeah.
B
But this one was a bit of the opposite. Like, the defense made some plays. They were good. But this was almost a 180 in a way, from the game in Miami, where the defense, I thought, dominated that game and the offense made the plays. This game, it's like the offense just rolled and it was like, what do you mean? They didn't score a touchdown when they had to kick a field goal.
C
Yeah. And going off of what? Some of the Josh stuff that we talked about earlier. But I asked AJ Epanessa in the locker room, like, what is it like when you see Josh do what he does? Because that obviously has an effect on the defense. And this is what AJ had to say.
F
It just gets more and more entertaining. You know, I've seen Josh make some crazy throws, poking his head out behind Spencer because he's so tall and throwing it sidearm and making the deep ball. And it's been just nothing short of amazing to watch. And just him as a person, him as a football player. I mean, that's what you want leading your team.
C
He says you kind of get used to it, but it doesn't make it any less special seeing him continue to make these kind of plays.
F
That's a good way to put it. You know, it's.
B
It's.
F
It's just amazing to watch, you know? And me and the D lineman were sit there and jokes like, man, we love having that guy on our team. Right. So, yeah, it's pretty special.
B
Yeah.
C
Dawson also added that it just doesn't get old that, like, it doesn't surprise him anymore, seeing the stuff that he does. But again, he was great. I think that fed into the defense in this one.
A
Yeah. And then we have to mention Demar getting his first career interception credit to me. Yeah. Oh, that's funny.
C
They ain't calling Mike anytime soon.
B
No, he was inactive.
A
He was inactive. Oh, you said Micah. Oh, I said Mike.
B
I thought you said Mike. Mike Edwards.
A
I thought you said Mike Edwards.
C
Micah Hyde.
A
No, I get that now.
C
You guys get it now. I was like, yeah, he wasn't active in San Diego.
B
Oh, I thought you were talking Mike Edwards.
A
I heard that, too. And then. Yes.
B
Yeah, he was.
A
Good for him, though.
B
So for. But Demar. And then afterward, Demar got a chance to talk about not only getting his first interception, but doing it on this night.
G
Man, it was special. You know, we all know my last start on Monday Night Football and how that game went. So to be able to, you know, come all the way back from that and to have a special moment like that, you know, it's all God right there, you know, so, you know, I've been giving him the praise like crazy lately, you know, because, like, it wasn't easy. But, you know, I'm super thankful to my teammates for just the support and the love, you know, that it was encouraging. And it makes all the emotions way easier when you just go out there and you think about, I just want to make plays for my teammates.
B
Yeah. And he does have the support of his teammates, but as we've talked about before, what do his teammates always say? Demar's a football player. You're past all that. But it was cool to see him get it in this one.
A
Yeah. No, I mean, I think you saw the defense play well. You saw the offense be exceptional. I mean, for this team. It's just. And Josh kind of talked about it of, like, now the national media. We wake up tomorrow on Tuesday, and it's going to be the Buffalo Bills are going to the Super Bowl.
B
You don't think so?
C
No, I was really upset. I was thinking about it. The game, during the game. I'm just bummed out that the bill. Super bowl window was closed during the off season.
B
Oh, I know.
C
Because they'd be a real contender.
B
So they're not allowed to go.
C
I don't think so.
B
I think the league. They'd have to apply.
A
That's a good tweet. You got to tweet that.
C
I did.
B
Oh, the king of content.
C
And there's the open.
B
I will say, for three Games in, you could make an argument, especially the way they played down in Miami and the way they played today, that they're the most complete team in the NFL.
A
Absolutely.
B
Now, Kansas City is 3, 0. They always find ways to win. Minnesota's been a great story. Sam Darnold's played great. Their defense gets after it. So if you just looked at them based on the three games they played, they're pretty damn good so far. But because of the Bills pedigree and Josh Allen, it's hard to look at them. We know what's coming next, so it's going to be a bigger, bigger challenge. But to this point, boy, from, like I said, from mid second quarter on in that game against the Cardinals, they have played the best football they've played in three years.
C
And it's even more impressive because their performance tonight because we know that the Jags defense flies around of Josh.
B
I wanted to ask Josh at the beginning, were they flying around? Yeah. He says that he always. He's always going to compliment the other team. Doug Peterson's got his hands full there because that team is bad. And. And Trevor Lawrence said we sucked in the last game. What's he saying about this one?
A
I know.
B
I mean, they were terrible. Davis caught a few balls and got booed.
A
Yeah, he did get booed.
B
Yeah. We just saw.
A
He almost had a touchdown. Almost.
B
Then the Jags playing got delayed. I mean, that just hurts.
A
I know.
B
Yeah.
C
Salt meat wound.
A
Yeah.
B
A few hours later, getting out of.
A
Town, did see Josh post game go over, talk with Mitch Morris. Obviously they're very close. I didn't see him go over to Gabe Davis, but it's also very hectic during post game, so I know they talked earlier before the game.
B
Yeah.
A
Really quick, just one moment. Like, the atmosphere really was so cool. Prime time is always a big deal, especially it being here, but I just. The crowd got so into it and there was so much to be into considering how great the team played. But there was one moment where I. My phone died and I was just kind of like not tweeting and I'll not trying to find Dan's tweets. And I was like, this is just. It's really cool for so many fans who. Who stayed for so long after the game was over. Over. Yeah, it was just a really great night in western New York.
B
You weren't looking for my tweets? No, I had some good ones today.
A
I believe it. I just. I don't really. I don't really look for Dan's tweets. They just find me.
C
Michael, tip his laptop over and go, hey, Dan, pretty good, right? And then I'll go, yeah, it's a good one. Whereas Jenna, her tweets, she goes, hey, help me craft this one.
A
Yeah, yeah, there's somewhere I need to go.
B
I'm just looking for the affirmation before I hit send. Yeah, that's it.
A
Yeah. Well, you are the, you are the content king. Oh, speaking though of credit to me, Ray Davis. Yeah, that was really cool to see him.
B
You've already mentioned that you already took credit for that.
A
No, I'm just saying it was really. I wanna, I wanna, I'm doing a Dan, I'm gonna circle it back to you.
C
She's learning.
A
But I will say it was really cool to see that, to see how excited the team got for him. I did a sit down interview with him this last week, putting together a story on him. His backstory is pretty incredible. So it was nice to see a guy like that get rewarded.
B
It is. You mentioned Shakir. Curtis Samuel caught a few balls and Shakir almost. Or MBS almost caught one.
C
Yeah, no, he did catch one. Right, but then he almost caught another one.
B
Yeah, he's going to get a deep ball. They are going to go deep to him. Yes, he's going to get a deep ball. It's going to happen. We know what's coming up next. It's Baltimore, it's Houston, it's the Jets.
A
I cannot wait for that Houston game. Yeah, I'm very excited for that.
B
All those teams are really good. All those teams have flaws. Yeah, it's one of those. You gotta win one, you really want to win two. And it would be incredible if you won them all. Correct. So that's just kind of the way it goes. It is. No question. It's still the toughest part of the schedule, but it sure looks good to go into it. Three and.
A
Oh, absolutely. All right. We will be at practice later this week. We'll have our podcast later this week as well. Mike and Dan are going to Baltimore. I'm still working even though I'm not there. Just putting it out there.
B
In all likelihood, Sunday night leading into the game, we'll all be on together, taking your questions right before, you know, close to game time.
A
Yeah.
B
On Sunday night leading up to the game. So. Yes.
A
Perfect. Okay, cool. All right. Please be sure to, like, comment, subscribe.
