You make a game plan all week and then the game actually happens. Things change and then you make the adjustment and somebody says, well, then they need to prepare better during the week. To that point, I like to say when my wife asked me if I want to bet and I say I did and she'll be like, well, how much did you put on it? And I will tell her and then she goes, well, you should have bet more. If I knew the end results, sweetie, I would have put more money on it.
B
I think if you are going to criticize them for their slow, slow starts, you often also have to compliment them on their ability to adjust and figure it out throughout the game. We'll start with this question from Robin.
A
So there's still a damn good defense. I have zero problem with them bringing this guy in. Hey, everyone, welcome Back to the Buffalo Plus YouTube channel, presented by Connors and Ferris. This week, another edition of you ask we answer, presented by stellar roofing windows and siding. Expect a stellar job every single time. No Mike Catalana. He's getting the Veterans day rest for this one. Dan Fates joined with Jenna Cottrell. So the Bills win. Jenna, everything should be good, right?
B
Right?
A
It's not because that's the way that this goes in the NFL, so especially in Buffalo. Want to get to some questions and I guess we'll start with again these questions. We post on the Buffalo + YouTube channel every single week, usually Monday or Tuesday. We're recording this Monday afternoon. This will be out on Tuesday morning. Comment in again. You can tweet at us all those kind of things, but we kind of go off some of these comments. So the first thing I'll say is the first comment is Tony, 525. Why should I be excited that we beat the worst team in the NFL? This doesn't solve McDermott folding when we need to beat a good team. 10, 7 at halftime. Jenna, I'll give you the floor First.
B
I find this comment to be so Interesting from someone who says they are a fan. I don't know about you but I just find it fascinating of like you can only play the person on the schedule that's in front of you and you're right. Like this team has struggled to make good starts. Like obviously this week they were down ten, seven and a half. But we talked about those second half adjustments and how important that those are. The bills rattled off 34 unanswered points. You can have the point that in big moments this for this team McDermott has let down this group.
A
Fair.
B
And also there's the point of the Bills are very, very good in games during the regular season. They need to be better at those season defining moments in the postseason. But you can only play the team that is ahead of you. And so for me I just get very frustrated really realizing this because I think people accept or expect perfection when that is just not how it works. The most important thing that came out of yesterday was a win. The most important thing that came out of the jets game was a win. You could say hey, all these things were really ugly and you need to do this better and you need to do that better. But at the end of the day getting the win is what matters and that's what this Bills team was able to do. And, and for people that just expected to be a walk in a park every time, that's just not I give it to the give credit to the Titans. They were very well prepared and they played well. But the Bills were the better team and that showed yesterday and that is all that matters.
A
I think a lot of people were expecting a Bills blowout. They got it but then it still wasn't the one they were wanted. So there still is that little bit of anger and going off of that. We had two questions, one by old man Harris and as well as one by Saya N and they both talked about slow starts and I know we talked about this on our post game recap. If you didn't watch that, that's on Sunday. We posted on Sunday and I did a radio hit this morning as well. I talked in the video about how important in game coaching adjustments are and how I think it's a massive skill advantage that the Bills have against other opponents. They are allowing much less points, many fewer points in the second half than they are in the first half. And the question was, you know, about the game plan and adjusting and all those things all week. We're not in the building. I want to put that in the point. We're not in the building. But you make a game plan all week and then the game actually happens, things change, and then you make the adjustment and somebody says, well, then they need to prepare better during the week. To that point, I like to say, when my wife asked me if I want to bet and I say I did, and she'll be like, well, how much did you put on it? And I will tell her. And then she goes, well, you should have bet more. If I knew the end results, sweetie, I would have put more money on it. I would have put my mortgage on it. Yeah, but the Titans came out with a really good game plan. I don't think they expected anything to see what Mason Rudolph was doing. Yeah, the screen game, all of those things. Why can't there be a little bit of a tip of the cap to the opposing team, who, as Josh Allen always tells us and Sean McDermott, they get paid too. And this thought of that you should come into every single game knowing exactly what the other team is going to do and that you should be always prepared for it is BS in my opinion.
B
Like, I think, again, it's. It's the expectations that people have and a football season, it's long. There's going to be moments the Bills were coming off that emotional win. It metlife like I expected there to be a bit of flatness for this team coming out because of just what we saw the week before and the like. These are human beings as well. There's going to be those moments where it takes players a little bit to get into the game. I can say, yes, you want your team to start out faster against better teams. They will have to do that. And I think the Bills, one of the things that they do is sometimes they play up or down to their opponents. But also at the end of the day, that's also on the players. Like the coaches can do a good job to get players in position and to make adjustments, but it also comes down to the players being ready and the players making the plays early on that they need to. You can have a great script by Joe Brady, but if you do not execute those things, then the results will be negative. So I think it's sometimes important to look back on the players and know that there's accountability within them as well.
A
I would also rather have my coaching staff, my team, my players prepare one week, prepare all week for something, and then be able to adjust on the fly then rather than just bashing your head into the head, you know, into. Into the wall the whole time going, well, hey, you Know what? We practiced this all week, so we got to keep doing it. And I remember Josh Allen talked week one about, oh, you're playing Arizona. Like, how do you scout that game? And he's like, we can have a plan, but we have no idea what offseason adjustments they've made, what, what they do. Again, it wasn't that long ago that teams wouldn't play man coverage against the Bills because Josh Allen would then just run and that he couldn't play zone. And now teams are switching it up. So the Bills offense is probably planning, hey, we're probably going to get to see this. And then when a team who also gets paid switches it up, then they all, like, you just say, well, coach, we. What do we do? You make adjustments. Like, like, I'm happy with the adjustments that I saw from Joe Brady. How about the end of the game? We didn't talk about this on the pod, but bubble screens that were successful. Spencer Brown clearing out people left and right. Like, that was awesome. And again, I just wish I'm with you, Jenna. I wish they were faster starts, but you always like to say it. Two things can be true at the same time. It can be frustrating that the Bills are off to slow starts, but you also, if you're frustrated, I hope you're also pleased by the adjustments that this coaching staff is making.
B
I think if you are going to criticize them for their slow, slow starts, you often also have to compliment them on their ability to adjust and figure it out throughout the game. It's just, I think sometimes people, because every single play, it feels like you live and die on the result of what happens. And sometimes you just really do have to take a step back. And even going into the halftime, I was like, Mike and I were talking. I'm like, I'm not worried. I'm not worried. I know this is the better team. I know this will show in the second half. And that is exactly what happened. But sometimes I think because people are so close, which I totally understand, you're a fan. You. You build your week around where you're watching the game, what kind of food, who you're going to be, that totally makes sense. But I think if you were. If you're going to criticize them for how unprepared they look or whatever, you also have to commend them on. Okay, they. They can adapt as well.
A
Bingo. Bill's defensive points allowed in the second half this season. 3, 0, 7, 14. That was against Baltimore, 6, 3, 0.
B
Yeah, I mean, the Bills are in his, like, have had a streak other than that Ravens game, which even in that moment you could make. You could point to that trick play kind of derailing everything for Bills. But the Bills have been a team that have been in very, very close games throughout the entirety of Josh Allen's career. So again, this team can adapt. And I think the most important thing is the players know, the players feel confident in their ability. Like, to win games like this, sometimes it is. Is gritty. But you need a team that is gritty. You need a team that can be resilient and fight back and not panic and not go above their skis. And I think that's important to kind of build that throughout the season as you get closer to the playoffs, because obviously in the playoffs, everything is ratcheted up another notch.
A
Demar Hamlin was asked on the after the game on Sunday, like, what changed? Like, what did you guys do? You make these halftime adjustments as we've always joked around about on this channel? Again, I don't think I said in the beginning, but like, comment subscribe as well. If you.
B
I didn't know if you said it either, but I didn't. I was like, I can't.
A
You could have. Okay, this is the one time I try and host a show and I, I just.
B
Yeah, yeah. Got the gun, huh?
A
Well done. Demar said after the game on Sunday, like, what changed? And like, we joke around on this channel about the fact of halftime is like, they go in, they go to the bathroom, they eat an orange slice and they go back on the field like this. This isn't some like, rah, rah. Our long meeting and tomorrow was pretty much like we got back to being ourselves. Our coaches calmed us down, said, like, play our style of football and then it works. Like, it's great. In game coaching, we made adjustments, we got back to our fundamentals and all those things. Like, I don't know what else to tell you. It's like when people say, like, this team doesn't like McDermott. I get my mentions and all these things. It's like, this team loves McDermott. They respond. I always go back to, like, when you can tell when a team wants a coach fired or doesn't believe in their coach, it is very clear to see it on the field. Look at Jacksonville, look at Tennessee, like, they don't know what they're doing. So again, I know this is a long take on, on in game coaching McDermott, but I just thought that was worth pointing out.
B
No, I think, I think that is important because I think sometimes it's easy to get caught up. So. And I think you're right. The. The players and the other coaches on that staff believe wholeheartedly in Sean McDermott. And you. You need that for a team to be successful.
A
Yeah. Where was the question? Arizona. Joe, my question did Greg Russo confirmed yesterday that he is the D lines version of Gabe Davis. A monster game every month and then crickets. The other games shout out Dave Myers from Built In Buffalo. Like, it's a good take.
B
Yeah, it.
A
It plays.
B
I. Now, obviously, we have the full spectrum of last season to go off of Gabe Davis being Gabe Davis. So I'm not ready to throw in the towel and say that is what Greg Russo is as we now enter week eight. But I understand why some fans feel that way, because in moments it feels like. I mean, Greg Russo is like, you see why the Bills drafted him. You see what he can do, how impactful it can be, all of these great things. And then, like you said, there are weeks where it feels like crickets or he's not even out there. So he had some nice plays against the Titans. How can he kind of keep up that momentum? We'll see. I'm not ready to call him Gabe Davis yet, though, because we still have a lot of season left, but, gosh, it's tough. That is. I don't love that.
A
Yeah. Alex, cool. X O L How long until we see Cooper fully acclimated into this offense? Taking a majority of the snap apps lining up outside instead of people like Matt Collins? Jenna, what do you think?
B
I mean, I think it's something that, you know, he talked about yesterday or we talked about this week how, like, their playbook is like 100 pages long and, you know, you got to study and all these things. I think he has the experience, obviously, being traded in season before, and he mentioned that yesterday in the post game press conference about. Thankfully, he kind of knows the road map of how to get adjusted and acclimated into a new offense, I would say. I mean, I think what's nice is that he's got a lot of coaches and players around him that are welcoming him. He seems like he is absolutely a student of the game. I would say two, three weeks. And I feel like we'll kind of see him off and running. But again, he was so impactful yesterday in just being an intuitive player and having Keon be like, hey, do this. He was like, okay, I got you. Like, I. I think that there's really the opportunity for him because he is such a veteran to make big plays and big moments, even if he's doesn't have maybe what he wants of the full, full grasp of everything.
A
Yeah. I was also thinking originally, like two to three weeks. I like that he has more of a baseline understanding.
B
Yeah.
A
I also think mid November, when they hit their buy in that late November is also, I think, a really time where you're going to unlock all that Cooper can bring. Can bring to an offense. They always talk like he just seems like a guy. Here's a guy that lives at the facility. Like, I know. I think Florio had a story about it on. On NBC, the Sunday night game. The fact of Josh always takes pride in being the last one to leave the building. And he was walking out and saw Cooper's bag was still in the locker room, that. That like he was still going in there and all the extra time he was putting in with the wide receivers coach. So, like, I think every week you'll see him get more and more snaps as he gets more and more familiar with the offense, the route tree, the concepts, all of those things. I think by the bye week, by early December, I think you're really going to see all that Amari Cooper can bring with his full repertoire and his full skill set. But I'm with you. It's two to three weeks before he's, you know, not looking. Yeah. That he's not looking at Keon for confirmation. Keon said you could never be fine for over communicating. So it was just a. I love that.
B
That's a message for every man out there, too.
A
This is great.
B
Want to be a good partner. Over communicate.
A
That's it. What did you say the other day? What they say, not what they do.
B
Yeah. Believe what they do, not what they.
A
Say, not what they say. Yeah. All right, a couple more questions. A couple questions. People asking about a trade. Jenna, do you see. You know, does the wide receiver room need an upgrade? Is there another move that Bean. Do you think he's gonna make?
B
I mean, we've talked about, like, how. I don't know if they do make another move. I think it's Bar this is. Barring any, like, major injury or anything like that, obviously that completely changes the complexion of this team. Had that if that does happen, if they. I could see them maybe trying to see, like, honestly, I don't see them making a move, but if they did, I could see them maybe trying. I mean, you're gonna get Vaughn back, but, you know, pass rushers, always a hot commodity. What they do at safety. I mean, I Don't know. What about you?
A
It's interesting. Catalana there. Curtis Samuels injury again. We're recording this Monday afternoon before Sean McDermott talks to the media. Somebody asked, too. It was one of the questions from Decrow three. You know, Bernard banged up the depth for the defensive tackle outside of Carter's being exposed, like, any of those things, and he was all saying, like, what about where is Ed looking? Because does Carter get more playing time? I think Carter is a good rotational piece. I know he has flashed at moments. I'm still gonna go to battle with the guys of. Of Daquan, who I think has underperformed this year, but I still know. I still know what I got. It's kind of like at this point, making a trade at the deadline. At some points, I feel like it's better to. To go with the devil, you know, than the devil you don't. So, like, you. You could bring in somebody that you're like, hey, this guy gives us. You know, this guy may have more upside, but he doesn't do X, Y and Z well, or he might not do that. So if a team's willing to trade a guy at this point, there are usually red flags, either within the organization or with the player. So I don't see a massive move. I. I think there's a possibility. But you're getting Milano back. Like, I could see adding another linebacker if they wanted, so that if they were to face, say, Baltimore right in the postseason and you want to go three linebackers, you would hope that the third linebacker would be Dorian Williams, because you'd have Milano and Bernard on the field at the same time. But is there a veteran linebacker out there? Maybe it's not even a trade. Maybe a guy gets released, something like that. Those are just the other ones that I was thinking of, just a linebacker, because Balin Specter and Dorian Williams are not my. I don't feel the best when they are out there on the field together.
B
That's fair. Do you think they make a move, barring injury? I don't think they do either. They've also been so judicious with the money that they've spent and all that stuff and the assets, that I would be kind of surprised. But, like, the Amari Cooper thing worked out so well because of his price and what he could add. I feel like that's kind of a rarity to find that. But we know Bean is always shopping, looking at that clearance rack, trying to figure out how he can women be shopping, putting it on the credit card Maybe paying down at a later date. So we'll see.
A
One last question and then one more comment. Biggest concern for the Bills going into Week 8 against the Seattle team that just rolled the Falcons. Metcalf got hurt Sunday. Saw a report today that they don't believe that it's serious, but he was carted off. And they obviously still have Jackson, Smith and Jigba as well as Tyler Lockett. What is your biggest concern? You are heading to Seattle, as I know we are very early in this game. Mike is going to talk to a sports reporter, Nico Tamarion, who is out there, covers the Seahawks in Seattle. That will be up Wednesday, what they're talking about in Seattle. So we'll have more coverage as the game comes on, obviously our Thursday show. But, Jenna, your biggest concerns facing this as they get ready to face the Seahawks.
B
Now, I will say just to quickly add on the Nico Tamarian, he lived in Syracuse for many, many years in Central New York, so he is very well acquainted with Bill, Bill's mafia, this Bill's team. So he's been living out in Seattle for a couple years now. So he knows kind of both sides of the coin very well. In terms of my biggest concern, I just, I think this is a Seahawks team that is really confident and they can play pretty streaky. Like some weeks I'm like, wow, you know, they've been able to put up some nice games. Obviously they rolled over the Falcons this past week. I always get nervous going long trips. I don't know, sometimes maybe it's because I do not feel well. When I go, like across the country and jet lag and all that stuff, I get so puffy. It's unbelievable. Yeah, it's gross. I hate it. But. But I always worry kind of about that effect. And that's maybe just me looking at it way too personally. But I think this is a Seahawks team that has some fight. And I, I think you are going to need to get out to a faster start against this Seahawks team. But this is really the part of the schedule we're like, all right, the Bills can take advantage of this. Like we talked about the first six games and how much of a gauntlet that was. And then this stretch, you're like, all right, you have the opportunity to pick up some wins. So for me, it's just, you know, taking care of business. Will this team be able to do that? And I think the Seahawks, it's a cool place to play. It's a loud place to play play. It's a very passionate fan base and the Seahawks have made some moves where I'm like, I don't. I don't want to say, like, they don't know they're bad, but I feel like the Seahawks have, have played well. And, and so this will be a test.
A
They were very banged up. They won three games in a row, looked very good. They lost three games then in a row after they started out 3, 0. They were banged up defensively. They can score points. Geno Smith, Here's a hot take for you. Geno Smith will be the second best quarterback the Bills have faced this year.
B
Really? You think you put him above Tua?
A
I'm putting above Lamar.
B
You put him above Lamar. Who do you think is the Bill's best QB they faced?
A
I think Stroud Catalana will flip out when he listens to this part.
B
Hate that.
A
Look, Lamar was fine against the Bills and I'm not sitting there saying like, I look at Gino as a very complete passer and it's hard to erase Jets Geno from your brain, but like, now that he's got that New York stink off of him and he's got weapons, he looks very comfortable in this offense. Like they can score. And to, you know, and to the point here of Marty is that like they got weapons. Metcalf, if he plays or not, Even if he's 75%, he's a freak of a human being. And then you add in jsn, you add in Tyler Lockett. You know, you have those running backs like, they're a complete offense that has no problem when they're humming, putting up 30 points. And so I, I push back a little bit. There is a little bit of that aura or it's like a little bit of like not a myth, but like Seattle hasn't been that tough of a place to play in recent years. The legion of boom. And. And when it was that defense was. It was as tough as any place to go into. They lost. They lost their last two home games. Like, this isn't like a massive home field advantage anymore. That's not to say it's not a tough place to play it. I'm not saying it's not loud, but like, it isn't like Orchard Park's a tougher place to play. Like, because the team has also had a lot more success there. So I'm worried about Gino. I never thought I would have said that three years ago, but a guy that is who has seen a lot like, like, this isn't something that you're not necessarily going to confuse. I just. And again, I think their defense, as it gets healthier, they played really well against the Falcons. That was a Kirk Cousins game. Like that's the one of the stinkers that he'll lay every. Every once in a while. It's. Sometimes it's on prime time. This was a one o' clock game and the Seahawks really needed that game more than the Falcons. Like that was just. I should have bet it because that was a hungry dog runs faster kind of spot. But I think the Seahawks are a complete team and their offense scares me more than their defense.
B
I hear you about the offense. I guess I've just seen and been really impressed with the Bills and being able to take receivers, big name receivers and stuff out of games. And when I say it's a tough place to play too, I also incorporate in like the travel aspect of like just going and being, you know, a long trip out there. So I think this game will be more exciting than people expect. I agree that. That way.
A
I absolutely agree. So.
B
But again, I do expect the Bills to win.
A
Yeah. Their three losses were to the Lions.
B
Good team.
A
42, 29 shootout. The Giants. That was in Seattle. 29, 20. They were really banged up and they lost to the Niners. 36, 34. 36, 24. Like they can put up points. Like. Like they have no problem putting a point.
B
So sorry, my sister was calling me. I don't know if you heard that.
A
I didn't.
B
Oh, really? Oh, okay. It like did the.
A
Yeah. One last question was somebody was planning their first trip to Buffalo.
B
Oh.
A
And had any recommendations?
B
Well, I feel like you're always going to be told to go to the. One of the wing spots.
A
Where's the question?
B
Also okay. Hot take. I love Niagara Falls. Not like the. The area but like actually going to Niagara Falls I think is so cool.
A
This is bad podcasting.
B
Do you need me to find the question?
A
Dead air. Well, B Mo Breezy said. Just wanted to say hi. My wife and I love you guys.
B
So M. Shane327 says looking into coming up to Buffalo at some point to see my first home game. What are some places I need to make time for? Time for places to eat, things to do.
A
Thanks, Jenna. That's why you. That's why you should really host more like this. Hosting life ain't easy.
B
Subscribe. It's kind of hard. Yeah. People don't give it enough credit. But okay. So yes, if you're first time going. What?
A
No, I. I have the wing place.
B
Oh, okay. Well, I'm Gonna do. Some people I might get hate for this, but if you actually go to Niagara Falls and go see the Falls, highly recommend the Canadian side. No, talked about that. The area itself, it's like Hard Rock Cafes and stuff like that. But actually getting on the Maid of the Mist or whatever the equivalent is on the Canadian side, it is really cool. And I think it's a really unique experience. And of course it's one of the wonders of the world. So I always think that that's like I've been multiple times every season. Like I just, I really like it.
A
Unbelievable wing nuts. If you're gonna get wings.
B
Oh yeah.
A
Go to Wing Nuts.
B
I like Bar Bill as well.
A
Beef on wick. They also have bomb fries. The fries.
B
I'm not from the area so I.
A
Think I say whack.
B
But that's okay. That's what I.
A
That's a Rochester thing.
B
Rochester. I don't know.
A
All right.
B
I always thought it was beef on Weck.
A
I don't know.
B
But I don't know. Who knows?
A
All right.
B
Let us know in the comments. Yeah, I should, I should really know how to say it. So.
A
Yeah. Okay. That'll do it for you. Ask. We answer this week presented by stellar roofing windows and siding as they like to say, expect a stellar job every single time.
