Hey everybody.
Tim Miller
Tim Moh from the Bulwark here. We have two breaking news stories regarding the Venezuelans that our government kidnapped and disappeared to a concentration camp in El Salvador.
Sarah Longwell
Both are bombshells.
Tim Miller
The first came from 404 Media which.
Sarah Longwell
Has been doing some really excellent investigative reporting on Trump 2.0. I would definitely recommend checking them out.
Tim Miller
They received hacked flight logs. They had targeted the Global X, a.
Sarah Longwell
Plane company that was flying these kidnappees to El Salvador and a hacker targeted Global X and got the manifest of the flights.
Tim Miller
The result was that there were dozens.
Sarah Longwell
Of people that were on the flight manifests that had not been publicly acknowledged before by the government. So there were potentially more Venezuelans than had been publicly known or people from other nationalities sent to the El Salvador gulag. There's some evidence, public evidence that we'll get into that at least some of the people on those, on those manifests were actually sent to El Salvador. So we'll get to that in a second. But simultaneously, like literally stories coming out like within the hour here. Reuters is reporting that El Salvador has agreed to a prisoner swap with Venezuela and that the number in the Reuter story is the 238 Venezuelans will be sent to El Salvador in exchange for, interestingly, American prisoners, not El Salvadoran prisoners. So we'll get to that in a second.
Tim Miller
So a lot to unpack here. Hopefully a silver lining. Good news that some of these men.
Sarah Longwell
That these men are alive and they'll get out of El Salvador and be able to go home to Venezuela.
Tim Miller
A ton of caveats with that.
Sarah Longwell
Number one, these men were fleeing Venezuela. If you think about the context of Andre, he was gay, had been at a protest, was worried that he'd be targeted by the government while he was leaving Venezuela. You know, how will the Venezuelan government, the authoritarian Venezuelan government treat these men upon return? You know, that all kind of remains to be seen, right? Hopefully they'll get due process, be treated well. If that turns out and they make it home, that does not in any way offset the abomination of how this country treated them. People fleeing communism asylees hadn't broken the laws in many cases, hadn't even broken immigration laws in some cases, and that we kidnapped them, disappeared them to a concentration camp, and then now they're sent back to the home country that they're fleeing. So I mean, much more to come.
Tim Miller
On all of that.
Sarah Longwell
I'll be talking to the lawyers representing these men. We'll see what's happening. Assuming this swap goes through on the 404 story.
Tim Miller
Just again to underscore how outrageous this all is, there had been a public list of people that CBS.
Sarah Longwell
Had reported first and the DHS had acknowledged of about 200 some odd Venezuelans that had been sent to El Salvador.
Tim Miller
The hacked flight manifesto indicates that there were more. So our government like in secret disappeared people to black sites, essentially didn't publicly acknowledge it, didn't give them due process, didn't allow them to talk to a lawyer, didn't want them to talk to their families. People didn't know where they were. Just completely disappeared off the map by our government. And we know, as I mentioned, that some of them were sent to Sukkot because I want to give you this example here. It's the case of Cairo Alexander Flores Navas. He's from Venezuela. He had been protesting his family had.
Sarah Longwell
Been protesting his disappearance and demanding answers.
Tim Miller
In a TikTok video posted in March against from 404 Media, his mother Ana Navas explains that they suddenly stopped hearing from him before the March 15 flights. They didn't know he hadn't been publicly acknowledged. He didn't know what happened. And she didn't know where he was until she saw a photo of him in Sukkot amongst the group of other prisoners. The only reason this mother knew where her son was was because of the fucking snuff videos and snuff photos that the DHS and Bukele in El Salvador were putting out. Other examples, there's another TikTok video. The mother of a 21 year old Brandon Cigar and Cruz explained that he'd been disappeared for three months with no news of his whereabouts. His existence on this flight manifest was the first kind of acknowledgment that that is probably that is what happened to him, that he was assumed presumably sent to El Salvador. So there are others here that we don't know that hadn't been previously known about. Like imagine being their families. You don't know. Somebody just whoosh disappears off the face of the earth. You see these horrible pictures from El Salvador. You hear the testimony of Kilbrego Garcia about how he was beaten and abused and this horrific treatment. You hear the reports from that one time reporter Philip Holsinger about the screams and the yelps of the people that were going there. It is truly just appalling that our.
Sarah Longwell
Government was participating in this.
Tim Miller
And as serious as the Jeff Epstein.
Sarah Longwell
Story is, and as sympathy I have.
Tim Miller
For the victims, that is unboundless and I understand that.
Sarah Longwell
Look, I've gotten some laughs. The comedy element about how horrible Trump has handled this.
Tim Miller
The fact that currently, right now, this is ongoing, we have this potentially prisoner.
Sarah Longwell
Swap happening between unknown people that we.
Tim Miller
Disappeared to a foreign government we kidnapped.
Sarah Longwell
We don't know.
Tim Miller
We're waiting to hear whether they're alive or dead. That is like. This is an ongoing humanitarian crisis. It is our government breaking international law. It is a depraved treatment of people, dehumanizing treatment of people. It has been marked with lies from our government repeated as well as just noxious rhetoric about the people that they kidnapped, many of whom had just been trying to flee oppression to try to come for a better life, as so many had come to this country before. So in a perfect world, well, it's perfect world, none of this would have happened. But in a perfect world, the ones.
Sarah Longwell
That want to come to America could come. But obviously that's not going to happen under this government. And so we have to hope that this prisoner swap is real, that the Venezuelan regime treats these people with more humanity and decency than our government did. We'll see if that plays out. We'll keep you guys posted as stories develop. Once again, shout out to 404 Media on uncovering that our government had sent more people than we even knew to this foreign black site.

Bulwark Takes Episode Summary: "BOMBSHELL: Trump Admin’s Secret Flight Logs Revealed. Prisoner Exchanges With Venezuela?"
Release Date: July 18, 2025
Hosts: Sarah Longwell and Tim Miller
In this gripping episode of Bulwark Takes, hosts Sarah Longwell and Tim Miller delve into two explosive stories that have recently come to light, shedding unprecedented insight into governmental actions that have stunned the nation.
Hacked Flight Logs and 404 Media's Investigative Breakthrough
At the heart of the episode lies a bombshell report from 404 Media, commended by Sarah for their exceptional investigative work on what she terms "Trump 2.0." Tim Miller introduces the first news story with grave urgency:
"[00:10] Tim Miller: We have two breaking news stories regarding the Venezuelans that our government kidnapped and disappeared to a concentration camp in El Salvador."
The revelation centers on hacked flight logs obtained by 404 Media, targeting Global X Airlines, the company responsible for transporting these individuals to El Salvador. The leaked manifests reveal dozens of Venezuelans whose detentions were previously unacknowledged by government sources. This discloses a more extensive operation than publicly known, implicating not just Venezuelans but potentially other nationalities as well.
Evidence of Secret Detentions
Sarah elaborates on the gravity of these findings:
"[00:40] Sarah Longwell: ... potentially more Venezuelans than had been publicly known or people from other nationalities sent to the El Salvador gulag."
The hosts discuss public evidence suggesting that a number of individuals listed in the flight manifests were indeed transported to El Salvador, raising serious questions about the extent of these covert operations.
Personal Stories Highlight the Human Cost
Tim and Sarah highlight poignant cases to humanize the statistics:
"[03:56] Sarah Longwell: Been protesting his disappearance and demanding answers."
"[03:58] Tim Miller: ...the only reason this mother knew where her son was was because of the... photos that the DHS and Bukele in El Salvador were putting out."
The story of Cairo Alexander Flores Navas exemplifies the heart-wrenching reality families face when loved ones vanish without a trace. The absence of official acknowledgment left families in despair until hacked manifests revealed their locations in Sukkot, a known detention site.
Reuters Reports a Potential Exchange Deal
Simultaneously, Reuters has broken news of an agreement between El Salvador and Venezuela to conduct a prisoner swap, exchanging 238 Venezuelans sent to El Salvador for American prisoners. This development suggests a possible resolution to an ongoing humanitarian crisis, albeit fraught with numerous uncertainties.
Sarah’s Cautious Optimism
Sarah cautiously views this swap as a potential silver lining:
"[01:35] Tim Miller: So a lot to unpack here. Hopefully a silver lining. Good news that some of these men."
She emphasizes the complexity of the situation, noting that while repatriation could mean safety for these individuals, significant concerns remain regarding their future in Venezuela.
Repercussions of Repatriation to Venezuela
The primary caveat revolves around the authoritarian nature of the Venezuelan government. Sarah raises critical questions about the treatment these individuals might face upon their return:
"[01:55] Sarah Longwell: ...how will the Venezuelan government... treat these men upon return?"
Given that many were fleeing oppression, their safety and rights upon repatriation are highly uncertain. The hosts express fear that these men may once again face persecution without due process.
Government Accountability and Human Rights Violations
Tim emphasizes the outrageousness of the U.S. government's involvement:
"[03:03] Tim Miller: Just again to underscore how outrageous this all is, there had been a public list... the hacked flight manifest indicates that there were more."
The clandestine nature of these operations—disappearing individuals to black sites without acknowledgment or legal proceedings—violates both domestic and international laws. Sarah likens the situation to a severe humanitarian crisis, highlighting the depraved treatment and dehumanization of those kidnapped.
Notable Cases Illustrating the Crisis
The episode discusses additional personal narratives, including Brandon Cigar and Cruz, whose disappearance brought to light the horrifying realities of these secret detentions. These stories underline the emotional and psychological toll on families who remain in the dark about their loved ones’ fates.
Awaiting the Swap and Future Developments
As the proposed prisoner swap looms, both Sarah and Tim stress the need for vigilance and continued reporting:
"[02:53] Tim Miller: On all of that."
"[06:45] Sarah Longwell: ...we have to hope that this prisoner swap is real... We'll see if that plays out."
They underline the critical importance of ensuring that these individuals are treated humanely in El Salvador and that the swap proceeds transparently and justly.
Legal Representation and Advocacy
Sarah mentions ongoing efforts to support the affected individuals:
"[02:54] Sarah Longwell: I'll be talking to the lawyers representing these men."
This indicates proactive steps towards legal recourse and advocacy for justice, underscoring the podcast’s commitment to shedding light on this dark chapter.
Sarah’s Final Thoughts on Government Responsibility
In her closing remarks, Sarah poignantly reflects on the broader implications:
"[05:29] Sarah Longwell: Government was participating in this."
"[06:45] Sarah Longwell: ...it is our government breaking international law. It is a depraved treatment of people..."
She emphasizes that regardless of the potential outcomes of the prisoner swap, the fundamental wrongs committed by the government remain a stain on the nation’s conscience.
A Call for Transparency and Accountability
The episode concludes with a stern reminder of the necessity for governmental transparency and accountability:
"[07:18] Tim Miller: Subscribe to the feed."
Though this cue is part of the sign-off, it reinforces the ongoing commitment of Bulwark Takes to inform and engage its audience on critical issues impacting society.
In Summary, this episode of Bulwark Takes uncovers deeply troubling actions undertaken by the U.S. government involving the unauthorized abduction and detention of Venezuelan nationals in El Salvador. Through meticulous analysis and heartfelt storytelling, Sarah Longwell and Tim Miller illuminate the profound human rights violations and the complex geopolitics surrounding the proposed prisoner swap. This comprehensive exploration not only informs listeners but also calls for urgent accountability and humanitarian consideration.
