Do you remember Vine? It changed the Internet forever and it vanished in its prime. I'm Benedict Townsend and this is Vine. Six seconds that changed the world. The untold story of genius, betrayal, and the app that died so that TikTok could thrive. From overnight stars to the fall that no one saw coming, we're breaking down what made vine iconic. Listen to vine on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. And here's Heather with the weather.
Derrick Henry
Well, it's beautiful out there. Sunny and 75, almost a little chilly in the shade. Now let's get a read on the inside of your car. It is hot. You've only been parked a short time and it's already 99 degrees in there. Let's not leave children in the backseat while running errands. It only takes a few minutes for their body temperatures to rise and that could be fatal.
Taylor Lewan
Cars get hot fast and can be deadly.
Will Compton
Never leave a child in a car.
Ben Jones
A message from NHTSA and the AD Council.
Will Compton
What's up, boys? Thank you for tuning in to another episode of our Best of the Bus series where we reflect back on our Best of episodes and on this special episode, this very, very special episode, the King himself, Derrick Henry, hopped on the bus to talk ball with the boys. All the way back in 2022, he reflects on the Titan season, makes his case for grass over turf and gets into a heated sec Debate. Has Georgia now taken Bama's crown? We also dive into the mental side of the game and handling the outside noise. Long live the king. Enjoy this throwback. This was a banger. Big hugs, tiny kisses, always.
Taylor Lewan
I'll tell you what, I hate to start a podcast off on this note. So during exit physicals the other day, IR guys, they go in, they do their own thing. Like a week before, before the Jacksonville game, obviously the training staff didn't have a lot of faith in the boys, but I go in because I know the boys are going out. There's a team meeting, and I want to be a part of it. See all the guys and Derek signing shoes, signed shoes for Ben Jones. And I walk over, maybe I can get me a pair of them King Henry shoes. I go up to Derek and I'm like, hey, man, let me get a pair of those. And he's like, looks at me. I go, what are.
Will Compton
You're on the team?
Taylor Lewan
He looks at me and he goes, these are for you. And he picked them up and he goes, I'll give you the white ones. These are for you. And signs them and puts two Taylor Lawan to the boy, 77, but very, very strict on. These are for you. Is there, like, something behind that that makes you, like, feel like you gotta make sure people know this is for you, not for anybody else.
Ben Jones
Yeah. I'm just saying this for you. Sign them to you. Personalize. Personalize them to you. And gave Ben a pair that we've been teammates for the longest, me, you, and Ben. So let's make sure that when people see them, it says Taylor Lawan, the boy, 77.
Will Compton
Do you feel like teammates have ever taking advantage of getting King Henry memorabilia?
Ben Jones
No. I mean, sometimes they act more than, you know, once or twice or three times.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
But everybody's all cool about it.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
How do you feel about. Are you, like, big on. With teammates?
Ben Jones
You.
Taylor Lewan
Is it anybody will. Just a practice squad guy, Rookie. Let me get a jersey. Are you, like, if I.
Ben Jones
If I rock with you like that and, you know, we've been cool and, you know, we put in work together, then I have no problem. No matter if you practice squad.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
You're a starter. No matter. But, you know, some guys kind of push the buttons a little bit, but everything else, it's pretty much cool. But some guys, you know, they want to ask, I'll be like, got the opportunity parking for myself.
Will Compton
Because I haven't. I haven't got, you know, I haven't got a jersey.
Taylor Lewan
You might not Ever.
Will Compton
Yeah, I know.
Taylor Lewan
But I do have mine hanging up right above my cold tub.
Will Compton
I rock with. I'm like, we rock together once a week.
Ben Jones
Yeah. I was thinking, if your team went through, you probably would probably get.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, send it out to Atlanta. Shift it over, dude. Yeah, that's because there are guys. I remember walking in and dudes, you know, everyone's doing jerseys and signing stuff. Some dudes are just giving jerseys just to give them. And I had, like, two or three guys come up to me and be like, you think. You think Derek would give me a jersey? I was like, I don't. I don't really see Derek sign.
Will Compton
This. If you're asking another teammate to know if, like, hey, you think I could ask Derek? Then that should be your answer.
Taylor Lewan
That should be the answer. Should be no.
Will Compton
Good enough to go ask, right? That's, you know, like, I remember when.
Taylor Lewan
You got the rushing title. 2019.
Ben Jones
The 19.
Taylor Lewan
2019. You got. You gave all the offensive linemen jerseys, and all of us kind of sat around like, damn, he doesn't really sign stuff like that. This is a big deal. Rollies up for the boys. Was it 1564, 1540. 1540.
Will Compton
What's 1540?
Taylor Lewan
That's how many yards he rushed for. And he needed, like, 230 in the last game.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
To beat Chubb.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
But no. No but for the jersey thing, I just, you know, I value my jersey. I value my personal belongings, not just someone to give them to anybody. I feel like when you work with something so hard and, you know, you put a lot of work in and it's a lot into, you know, New Jersey and a lot invested that. I just want to give it out to anybody. But if we have a special relationship and we've been rocking for a long time, then I won't have no problem.
Taylor Lewan
Sounds like.
Will Compton
No, I'm.
Ben Jones
I'm.
Will Compton
I'm. You know, I'm scheming in my head right now.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, you're gonna get that. We're gonna get you that jersey, boss.
Will Compton
In due time.
Taylor Lewan
In due time.
Will Compton
Well, I'm not gonna play my hand too quick.
Ben Jones
You know what I was thinking about the other day? Remember whenever we. The COVID year, we used it. The Buzz cut.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
The Peaky Blinders.
Ben Jones
And they just stopped, like, doing photos for us. Like, when we went to the plane and, like, stadium, you were just, like, tweaking out everybody's outfit. I was thinking about the other day. I was like, damn, that was. It was a crazy time, boy. Cause we couldn't get A photo. We couldn't do nothing.
Will Compton
Remember? Cause I. Before the flight, I went to Garrett's house so I could get.
Ben Jones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know we could get.
Will Compton
You don't remember that or not? The joke, but the who thing will never come full circle. Everyone thinks I'm just. I look. Absolutely.
Ben Jones
They missed some legendary stuff that year.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
The. The best part about that was the Titans literally put you in the injury report.
Will Compton
I know.
Taylor Lewan
Actual, like, Twitter official injury report for your haircut.
Will Compton
Like, made that day a little bit easier because that. Remember we were practicing on Christmas and it was freezing out.
Ben Jones
Freezing. It was.
Taylor Lewan
You don't remember this, bro? I was. That was my first acl.
Ben Jones
Oh, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
I really been around the last couple years, bubba.
Ben Jones
Wow. Was that Houston?
Taylor Lewan
Houston week five?
Ben Jones
Yeah, yeah. Houston Week five. Because that was.
Will Compton
That was right before, wasn't it?
Taylor Lewan
No, I told him we were five. We beat Houston. We were five. Zero.
Ben Jones
No, we beat. We beat the Bills and we played Houston that. That same week. Because we played on Tuesday. We played Houston that Sunday.
Taylor Lewan
Yes. Because. Oh, yeah. Because all that.
Ben Jones
Yep.
Taylor Lewan
We legit proved that we didn't need practice anymore.
Will Compton
Sponsored by Zoom.
Taylor Lewan
Sponsored.
Ben Jones
I think we played the Steelers right after that.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, I know.
Will Compton
That was a. That was a weird and also legendary year.
Ben Jones
It was a weird year.
Will Compton
We lost that first round of playoffs, which was a bummer because we dogged.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, y' all shot a bit.
Will Compton
Not like dogged him, but in the fourth quarter, dog. The Ravens that year.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, y' all should have beat the Ravens for real.
Will Compton
I know. Look at us reminiscing on the old days.
Taylor Lewan
War stories.
Will Compton
I know.
Taylor Lewan
The boys just talking war stories right.
Will Compton
Now to be back on the bus.
Ben Jones
I'm hype, man. How long has it been? It's been a year and a half.
Will Compton
I feel like it's been to two years last time.
Taylor Lewan
You haven't been here, have you? Come on here. Not. Not this location.
Ben Jones
It was a yearly thing. I should do it after the season. I think I did it after 19.
Will Compton
Yeah. But I went to Texas.
Ben Jones
Texas early. Yeah.
Will Compton
Early. Quick.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. What does Derrick Henry's offseason look like? Like, as soon as the season ends, obviously, we can get into how the season went a little bit. But for you, exit. Exit interviews happen two days after. What do you do right after that?
Ben Jones
Yeah. Pack in getting everything ready to go to Dallas. My girl likes to get right out of here and go back to Dallas as quick as possible. She loves Texas. She's from Texas. And then once we do that, get all the stuff ready, get it shipped, car shipped, everything shipped. The dogs get to Texas and by that time, if I want to work out, I'll probably work out a little bit until Pro bowl and super bowl and all those things. And once I get back from there, I think it's just going right into it. But I mean, I might take trips here and there, but I'm still gonna work out. But it's not like working out like going right into football training, but it's just like working out to stay fit. Cause I love working out. Like I'm gonna do that whenever I'm done playing. Cause I just love working out, you know, I love being fit. Just I can't sit around. This is something that I can't do. So that's just something that I've always done is working out. Even when I was little, I mean, my cousin be older than me. They'll have like weights and I'll be using them doing push ups and then wait about two days. I want to see my muscles gonna grow. And they never did. I'm like, man, what's going on now? Keep doing more push ups and sit ups. But I just love working out. That's what, you know, I've always, you know, been infatuated with and you know, even when I'm done, that's what I'll probably do is work out and be fit and do all that type of stuff.
Will Compton
When you say, when you say, like when you get done, you'll be doing something in that, in the workout world. Like what does it look like? Like, what do you know what you want to do? Are you trying to be like, I.
Ben Jones
Don'T know, I might like you trying to get big. No, not, not like that. That's too much. I've seen those guys and by the time they get to a certain age, they are, you know, they drain. I ain't trying to do it like that. Yeah, exactly. So, but you know, shouts out to him. No free shout outs. Yeah, there you go. But probably, I don't know, I was talking to somebody else. I might do some Crawford. Cause that looks challenging. Like all that stuff they have to do the pull ups and pull their stuff up over the bar. I might just, I might want to try that one day on the national level, man. Nah, hell no. They even have me out there looking crazy.
Will Compton
I think it would be insane if you won a CrossFit. Like the, the Super bowl, the CrossFit games.
Ben Jones
It looks, that looks smaller.
Will Compton
They're like hard. Yeah, he's stronger. Somebody Like, Derek comes in and wins it.
Taylor Lewan
It's like, oh, yeah. People across. People are probably mad as hell, too. Like, man, he already. You have the NFL, but is there.
Ben Jones
Is there a prize or what's the.
Will Compton
It's. I think it's like a.
Ben Jones
What's the award?
Will Compton
Cash prize.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, Rich Froning's been. He was like, our second episode ever.
Ben Jones
But people who do that stuff and like, you know, IG, like that little community of Fit and CrossFit, that's, you know, it's real popular. People buy into that. Like, if you have fit behind your Instagram, people just automatically gonna flock to it and follow you because they want to see what you're doing. Yeah, exactly.
Will Compton
The fitness is that in your algorithm on Instagram.
Ben Jones
You might need to start a bus with the boys fit and just start some workouts outside the bus and see.
Will Compton
Other people busting fit.
Ben Jones
Busting fit. I'm telling you. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Jack, 2023 is a huge thing for all of us right now.
Will Compton
Report at the moment, Will's hurting, but.
Taylor Lewan
The boys in the back are thriving right now. Thriving.
Ben Jones
I want to know. I want to know what. What was. Was anything said to you when you posted that mirror picture? Was. They were like, hey, Will, these are our guidelines. At the Falcons. At the Falcons, you were just sitting there at the mirror photos. I didn't know it was a guideline you had to follow after you posted that, bro. And I was like, that might have affected. That might affect the year 10. Oh, no, bro.
Will Compton
You want to know what's wild? Is. I mean, Arthur, he was here, but Art is about the content.
Taylor Lewan
He's about busting. Yeah.
Will Compton
He was like, you know, I can't wait till we sign you. Like, when we fly to Washington. He goes, I want you doing high knees on the plane. Like how Russell was doing in London.
Ben Jones
Yes.
Will Compton
He said, I want to get you, like, on video, doing high knees on the plane, trying to, like, rally the boys or whatever.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Will Compton
Because the first week was going to be Washington week. He's like, you'll be on practice squad, but you're gonna travel. And he's like, I want to get you.
Ben Jones
Oh, the first week was Washington week.
Will Compton
The first.
Ben Jones
That was gonna be a big one. It was gonna be a big one.
Taylor Lewan
Coming home.
Ben Jones
Oh, man. That's gonna be a big one right there.
Taylor Lewan
Hey. No, that sounded pretty decent.
Will Compton
I thought I was gonna do it again, but. No, it wasn't like that.
Taylor Lewan
It wasn't like that for you.
Will Compton
But yeah, no, Art was about that stuff. Like, that's Hilarious, though. It's like, hey, this might impact you. You playing well.
Taylor Lewan
You were kind of nervous about it, right? You were telling me that had you in the. And the tight fit, and you're like, oh, man, I don't know about this. And they gave you like, a little lacrosse penny.
Will Compton
Yeah, they gave me like a little, like, you know, one of them, like, loose practice jerseys to cover myself over with. I'm like, man, they want me to get up in this little slim stuff right here. You know, I'm not in that good a shape.
Taylor Lewan
We're ready.
Will Compton
More weeks.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're ready. That whole process with you doing that is wild. I can't wait for you to write a book. Yeah, it's crazy. Oh, dude. Speaking of other players, like Russell Wilson, have you seen the stuff with Odell Beckham Jr.
Ben Jones
The plane incident? Yes, I saw that.
Taylor Lewan
That's crazy.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Do you know who KFC is?
Ben Jones
Kfc?
Will Compton
One Minute man on barstool.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, he's always doing, like, one minute rants on barstool. Sports. This person's acting like this and he gives his opinion on it and he just lets it live on the Internet.
Ben Jones
I might have seen something on Twitter one time, but I haven't really. No, not really. I don't really know.
Taylor Lewan
So he has this rant saying, this is the biggest.
Will Compton
You.
Taylor Lewan
You've seen the video more recently?
Will Compton
Yeah, yeah. He was talking about, like, Odell, how it seemed like he was sleep. He was, like, asleep because he came straight from the club to get on the plan. Thanksgiving, he's sleeping on the plane. Didn't necessarily put on a seat belt. Wasn't like, following orders or whatever. And so then they had. It seems like, what, the police are fired up.
Taylor Lewan
Paramedics. They're paramedics. They're like, if we. If he's gonna refuse help, we can't give him help.
Will Compton
Yeah, they're saying he's, like, unresponsive to. It's like, basically he's, like, sleeping. He's not really wanting to engage with, like, putting the seat belt on in first class because he's, like, laying down the seats fully, like, laying down. So he came over, they asked him, do you know where you're at? He says, yeah. And they're like, I mean, he knows where he's at. And they're like, is his pants on? Because apparently, I guess he had his pants off at first. Like, oh, his pants are on now. And they're like, how do we go about this? And they were trying to get him I guess, ultimately put on a seat belt. I think that's what it was. And just, like, follow the directions and, like, we're gonna have to deboard everybody off the plane if you're not willing to cooperate. And he wasn't, like, trying to talk to any of the workers, so they end up deboarding everybody off the plane. He flames. He fires off on some, like, old white dude, because Odell claims he was saying everything but the N word to me. He's like, this shit don't matter to me, dude. He's like, I'll be on a private plane while you guys got to get back on this plane. And it starts flaming him. You know, some nice humor with it. Some nice, man. He's like, enjoy the cheese board afterwards. So that's basically the idea of what happened. And now everybody's got an opinion on it. Me, I'm thinking, bro, just put on the seatbelt. Like, yeah, like, you might be tired. Like, let's just say all of that is true. He comes from the club, he gets on the plane. I get your. You're sleepy. Like, we've all. We've all had, like, where you're grinding and like that, but we're talking about deboarding the plane. And then he sat there until everybody gets off the plane. So everybody's like. He's like, I'm just gonna chill here until everybody gets on the plane. Everybody's got to take their bags out of the overhead and get off the plane.
Taylor Lewan
There's a level of, like, Odell, where I. Knowing Odell, for the few times I've been around, he doesn't seem like that kind of guy. Yeah, he doesn't seem like a dude that would make that stuff happen, because it's a great, like. Because he wants to. Because he thinks he's Odell. But if I'm him in that situation, even if I am up and I was at the club and I had to get on the plane, I'm thinking, hey, people, this is going to be a story. I actually put this damn seatbelt on.
Will Compton
Right? Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Like, me, I'm just thinking, yeah, just put the seat belt on, bro.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I think. I mean, I don't know. I can't really speak how somebody going to react, especially Odell, with, you know, all the stuff he's going through, being in the media and people portray him as one thing, and, you know, you always got to defend himself and you being out in Miami, you know, living his life, and then get on the Plane and fall asleep and all of a sudden you wake up and there's cops and everybody just looking at you. I mean, you don't know how, I mean, everybody can react different, right? So I think he was just like, dang, like, what's going, like, what is it now?
Will Compton
Right, right, right.
Ben Jones
So by that time, you in a deep sleep, you waking up, you just like, whoa, what's going on? You got a, you gotta, you know what I'm saying, come to realization what's going on. And you know, I mean, I can't tell how nobody, anybody's gonna react when, you know all that's going on and all he's doing is flying and falling asleep.
Will Compton
Cause ultimately, like, you know, the, the, the tweets we see, right? Social media, four minute video, it's not like we have all the.
Ben Jones
But then, but, but, but then I think if, you know, once he woke up, what was going on at that point, he probably already knew it was going to be out because, I mean, phones and everybody gets a hold, get a video or something. He already knew at that point. So he was like, I mean, it is what it is.
Will Compton
You know, you're in the say, you know, you're in the media big and you had, they're like, whatever the perceptions are, they get painted, yada, yada, like, you almost just think, okay, I need to almost overcorrect the other side. Just so everybody knows, like, be super compassionate.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, I.
Will Compton
Everybody put their bag, you know, hey, everybody put their bags up. Listen, listen, listen. I'm gonna put the seatbelt on. Can we fly this plane? Yeah, yeah, you got that? Hey, everybody put your bags back on. Oh, you didn't get stuck.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
All right.
Ben Jones
But then at the same time, but then, you know, they, they take him off the plane, but then you hear the police say he has his plans on. He's aware he was asleep. He probably just tired. He was like, what do y' all want us to do? I mean, like, he, he's aware, he's alert. I mean, then they were saying that he wasn't putting a seatbelt on. But at that time, I feel like he wasn't doing anything wrong. I felt like, you know, at that point he was just like, I just want to fly and go home.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
And just like.
Will Compton
Because it's like, well, what do you guys want to do? It's like, well, let's ask him one more time. Let's just, hey, can you put the seatbelt on so we can take off maybe.
Ben Jones
But if he wasn't putting the seatbelt on. Then it's just like. I mean. I mean, it's on you at that point.
Taylor Lewan
You just like, yeah, Also, like, we've been on planes.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Like, when you're. When you play football, like, you get on the plane, you're sitting there, and all of a sudden the plane's taking off. You're like, oh.
Ben Jones
If I'm on the plane and I want. I don't feel like getting off. I'm gonna go to the club, put on the seatbelt. We can go. There we go. You can fly again. You know what I'm saying? You go to the club, you go.
Taylor Lewan
To girls, do whatever you want.
Ben Jones
You know what I'm saying? You feel me? Do what you do. I'm trying to get. Where you trying to go to put the seatbelt on. We gonna let them go about their business. You know, I was trying to de. Escalate the situation, but, you know, I don't know how everybody else is doing.
Will Compton
Yes. I know how the Internet works.
Taylor Lewan
I wonder. They should have just waited for him to fall back asleep and then, like, buckled him up, kind of like just grabbed him. Just go.
Will Compton
Yeah, like, see, I don't think that.
Ben Jones
So then my question. I don't think that somebody could have did that. Just made it like. You gave me, like, this ease is put the seatbelt on. Because you could have did that quickly. If he was out, he probably would have felt that anyway.
Will Compton
All right, like, just. Yeah, pull out your phone. Take a little phone. Got him especially.
Ben Jones
Especially you got the pods. Because I didn't build the pods and I didn't. Once you lay back, you'll be out, and it's been time. I have food plates and I wake up and everything going. So it'd be easy to put the seatbelt on and just. Let's take off.
Will Compton
We'll have to get Odell on.
Taylor Lewan
Odell needs to come on the podcast.
Will Compton
Talk through it. Talk through that.
Taylor Lewan
We're ACL brothers, dude. We got our ACLs like, the same week or, like, six days apart. So he's got to come on.
Will Compton
You guys ever, like, talk or connect over?
Taylor Lewan
That was the first one. That was the first one. Yeah. He got done by the same person I got done the first time. And we would, like, talk, like, how's your surgery going? Oh, mine's great. How's your going? And then there was, like, a level of us both, like, pretending like everything was great.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And then both of us had 20, 21 the way it was, which Odell. He was Balling. And then it all of a sudden just didn't work anymore. Right. The super bowl happened and he just.
Will Compton
Remember that they talked about the turf fields.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Will Compton
What are your thoughts on playing on turf fields?
Ben Jones
Man, it's this.
Will Compton
You share the same sentiment as like.
Ben Jones
You, I got hurt on turf fields. So you know how I feel about it. There's been so many injuries that's happened on turf fields. I mean, it's just proven it. I mean, it's not really good for the league and, you know, for our bodies. You ask any player in the league about turf, they're just like, it's not gonna be an automatic answer. They're just gonna think about it, be like, nah. And there's so many people that's been like, get rid of turf fields that, you know, I think it's a time where it's all play on grass.
Will Compton
Right.
Ben Jones
But at the end of the day, it's the NFL, so it's all about business. So you telling me, you know how owners probably think. You're telling me I gotta pay you and then pay to keep the field going, where I can just put turf out, have a football game, but I gotta maintenance the field, which I know is probably a headache. But at the end of the day, players are the ones that, you know.
Taylor Lewan
Bring your best players get hurt.
Will Compton
You're not gonna have NFL's gonna push the. We're all about player safety.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
Then that's something. And then that's like the narrative. If they're following that narrative, then that's something where they should listen to.
Ben Jones
Yeah. Really? Really. I think for players and I think we just try to seeing people get hurt on turf.
Will Compton
Right.
Ben Jones
And it's just been proven people getting hurt over and over again. I think when players play on turf, they probably what they think about, like, man, I hope I come out the game healthy. It's just. You're just tired of seeing people get hurt. Especially people you see work so hard, get where they at and then get, you know, get hurt. Especially like you said, we're talking about Odell coming off of ACL and then worked all his way back and got to super bowl and got hurt again on turf. You know, you don't want to see that. So, you know what's crazy too is.
Will Compton
The players are even talking about for the game we had on CJ CJ Uzama from the Bengals and he was like, even before the game, they're talking about that middle of the field area.
Ben Jones
Where you on the jets now?
Will Compton
Yeah, he's on the jets now he was on the Bengals when they were in Super Bowl.
Taylor Lewan
That was nice heads up play though, for Will. That could have been real bad.
Will Compton
It could have been bad. But he was saying before the game, they were all out there walking, talking about like, hey, make sure, you know, you be careful around this area because it felt a little loose, like with the turf.
Ben Jones
Yeah. And, but, but, but hold on now. Taylor.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
Seattle last year, warming up before the game.
Taylor Lewan
Yes. Turf.
Will Compton
We did. And there is video footage of you hitting that little hyper extension looking deal then.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Like the turf deal is. And Buffalo this year.
Will Compton
Yeah, yeah. What was that second play? First play.
Taylor Lewan
First play of the game.
Will Compton
That's. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Play action, pass. Bad luck.
Ben Jones
But did I read that?
Will Compton
Look, man, from the Raptors.
Taylor Lewan
I was out there crying.
Ben Jones
Did not read. MetLife Stadiums going to turf. I mean, going to grass. Right. Moving from Turf to grass. MetLife Stadium. The Giants and the Jets.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, they are.
Will Compton
That's a big win.
Taylor Lewan
People got to do what the Cardinals are doing. They got the, the roof that's retractable and all that. And they Raiders, they have like on the grit. The Raiders do that too.
Ben Jones
I mean, I'm not. But they have a dome with grass.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
I think the Texans had at one point. But they went to turf. I think, I think it's just a maintenance thing about it. I had to pay and keep the turf. Eat the grass. Yeah, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Fertilizer.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
All the time.
Ben Jones
It's just about keeping the grass up.
Taylor Lewan
There's a level of like when you play at Nissan Stadium, like the grass is fine in the middle of the season, but then end of the season there's the Music City Bowl. There's a whole bunch of concerts and all this stuff.
Ben Jones
Yes, you.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, he plays on it. And so by the end of the year, you're playing on like the Oakland Radio Stadium, like all in that.
Ben Jones
I remember one point I forgot what, what which year it was. But they had spray paint in the field and it's like we were playing on ice. Oh, hit the ground. I'm like, man, whoa.
Taylor Lewan
That last game.
Ben Jones
Yes. I'm like, whoa.
Taylor Lewan
I know.
Will Compton
It would be one thing if the owners were just like, hey, the maintenance, the cost, yada yada, and just played that. But if they, the way they talk about player safety, it's like, okay, well then listen to your players. Even, even as simple, simply practice. We enjoy going inside, like when it's cold as. But we're like, we gotta play on the turf.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
Points feel worse after playing on turf.
Taylor Lewan
But okay, to play devil's advocate, I remember, like, going on the turf when you're young, you don't even realize, like, older dudes will be talking about the turf and you'll be like, my feels fine. What are you talking about?
Ben Jones
Exactly? Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Even like this past year when we go on the turf, I'm like, I really want to go on the turf because I know I'm going to feel the next two days. But low key in practice, I would be like, man, I kind of feel really good out here.
Will Compton
Springy.
Taylor Lewan
Springy.
Ben Jones
Yeah, yeah, you definitely, you definitely look fast on turf. For sure.
Taylor Lewan
Way fast.
Ben Jones
You'd be like, you flying on turf. Yes, that's. That's, that's for sure too.
Will Compton
Like, when you're in, like, high school and stuff, you play on a turf field. You're like, oh, man, we're playing.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Did you play?
Ben Jones
Yeah, exactly. In high school?
Will Compton
Yeah, high school have one.
Ben Jones
No, no, no, Not. Not high school. I'm saying when you go to play on one, you like, oh, oh, yeah. They legit. You think? They're so legit, for sure. But it's so crazy, like, the level of thinking as you get older and like, you, your body and the game, it's like in, in high school, an injury, like it was nothing and all that type of stuff. And then playing on turf, it's just crazy how like, your logical logic of thinking changes as you get older.
Will Compton
Like, man, you some grass.
Taylor Lewan
Give us some grass. But in high school, you're like, man, these guys, we got grass at our field. We suck like our. It's not cool.
Ben Jones
Even in college. Were you tripping about turf? Really?
Taylor Lewan
No, no, we play on turf, Michigan's fields on turf all the time. Every game. Every single game.
Ben Jones
But that, but. But that goes to just show you the level and the physicality of the NFL to college. And you know, leading up is way different. Yes, you gotta.
Will Compton
That's a good point.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, it is way different. And that everyone's just faster and stronger.
Ben Jones
People always. People always ask me about college to the NFL. I'm just like, bruh, NFL is night and day different. Not the same game, not the same. Check out behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved.

San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team.
Taylor Lewan
We need veteran players and we need young players. Like, you're building a team from scratch. And so the succession plan of long term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community.
Benedict Townsend
When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chile pouring rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down, I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life.

I know a lot of cops and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Ben Jones
Across the country, cops called this Taser the revolution.
Unknown
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Taylor Lewan
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

Ben Jones
It's not the same college.
Will Compton
How does it feel from a running back perspective? How different it is?
Ben Jones
What?
Will Compton
You just see it.
Ben Jones
College. College is. It's not the same. Not the same. I mean, the SEC was. I mean, it was the closest thing to it, but it's just not the same, bro. It's not the same. Like. Like the.
Taylor Lewan
Derek, you said some fighting words there.
Will Compton
We play a little differently up north.
Ben Jones
Yeah, the bit you would have fried. That's why. I mean, that's the teams I played mainly within the sec. Okay, I can't speak on the Big Ten or any other conference. I didn't play them. Wisconsin, Michigan State 38. 0. Wisconsin was like 35, 13. If I played Ohio State. Ohio State. We played Ohio State in the college playoffs. They beat us. Yeah. You guys play Ohio State in the playoffs and they beat us.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
They won a national championship that year, too.
Taylor Lewan
Shout out Ohio State.
Ben Jones
Here he goes. Oh, now we want to say we need this.
Taylor Lewan
How the do these other Power five conferences compete with sec? Like, you are. You're the reason why, like, players like you are the reason why we can't catch a break. Poor TCU is licking their wounds right now. That game, it was a. Was disgusting. It was. And the only good thing I can take from it is they beat them worse than Michigan last year. So I feel a whole lot better about it, you know, but it was.
Ben Jones
Just crazy to watch that game because I'm just like. When I watch TCU against Michigan, I'm like, okay. They got some physicality to them. They play hard. Like, on defense, I'm like, okay. Then the quarterback, he's tough.
Will Compton
13 on defense for TCU. That linebacker was playing around, jacked up.
Ben Jones
Too, you know, running back. I heard 33, which. He's nice. But number three for them. He played well, too, when he went down. But I just thought tcu, I mean, they were physical. They wouldn't. I didn't think they were going to lay an egg or lay down. Then I watched the game. I was just like, oh, man, it was bad. Oh, man.
Taylor Lewan
Again, Kevin was the closest it got.
Ben Jones
Oh, man.
Will Compton
Yeah. Or it seemed competitive.
Taylor Lewan
I legit had that game on for the first. I think Michigan would have done better.
Ben Jones
No, no. What are your thoughts from the arguments and conversations that we've had?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
About SEC and all that type stuff. What are your thoughts? And then I'm coming to you next because you've been in there.
Taylor Lewan
We understand the question, Derek. We know what you're at. You know what the fuck you're asking.
Will Compton
We slow down. Ask us the question you want to ask.
Taylor Lewan
Obviously, we are Pro Bay 10 podcast and we look at the SEC as the enemy. You guys won. You guys won this year and you've won frequently over the last 15 years. But that's. SEC is the best conference in college football. No question right now. No question. My worry is how the hell do we get these studs out of the Southeast and bring them up north? We gotta throw some money at them boys. Nil deals.
Will Compton
Hang on now.
Taylor Lewan
Now, it is also not fair that the SEC was doing nil deals before they were legal. Like that is.
Ben Jones
Oh, yeah, that's something I don't know about.
Taylor Lewan
All that in rings. I remember the last time.
Ben Jones
You know it. That's a historic quote. Paid me a ring. So that still lives on to this day. Lives on to this day.
Will Compton
Did you ever like, look after that? Because that was blowing up. Everybody's like, man, why are his teammates pressing him like this?
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Ben Jones
Abama fan page or something like. Post something like, man, put it in the Coliseum, pay me a rings. You know what I'm saying? That's on a coach. You could. A slogan you can use.
Will Compton
Iowa, Kentucky.
Ben Jones
What was. Did they lose? They lost.
Will Compton
They lost.
Ben Jones
I don't see Kentucky was real.
Taylor Lewan
That Bud Dupree was saying Kentucky's real.
Will Compton
This year outside of Georgia and Alabama.
Taylor Lewan
Really say Alabama anymore. Why they felt big this year.
Ben Jones
But bro, I'm gonna keep it real. I'm gonna keep it real, though. And I'm just gonna say this last year, Georgia played Michigan.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Ben Jones
Was it close?
Taylor Lewan
No, not close.
Ben Jones
Now it was 20, 21.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
The year before that, Batman played Ohio State and national championship. Was it close? It's 52, 24.
Will Compton
That doesn't seem like it was going.
Taylor Lewan
He didn't really give us time to answer that question either.
Ben Jones
And trying to think the year before that, Clemson did Clemson. Oh, Clemson played lsu.
Will Compton
How'd that turn out?
Ben Jones
Those. I mean. But I'm just saying I'm in the sec.
Will Compton
All right, acc now, what's it.
Ben Jones
Was it one year when Clemson played Ohio State in the playoffs? I think it was like in the Fiesta Bowl.
Will Compton
Oh, LSU won because that was Joey B. That's. That's. That's on us. That's Joey Burrow.
Taylor Lewan
That's my. You. I knew the LSU won that.
Will Compton
Football teams of all time. That's on Us. That's on.
Taylor Lewan
Is that the best college football football team of all time?
Will Compton
One of them, I think, Nebraska in the 90s. Nebraska.
Ben Jones
But I will say, look up the stats. I will say Ohio State held it down against Georgia this year. That was a good game.
Taylor Lewan
That was a good game.
Ben Jones
They played well.
Will Compton
Yeah, I know. That's what made it seem like Georgia was human.
Taylor Lewan
We were so close to seeing Ohio State versus Michigan in the national championship.
Ben Jones
We were.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Ben Jones
I will say, I, I, I will say this for, For Michigan. That was a touchdown. I don't understand how they didn't call that.
Taylor Lewan
He's catching the ball.
Ben Jones
I don't know what that was. That was a touchdown. Me.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, we. We've said on this podcast already, you can't spot them. Two pick sixes and a quarterback running back exchange for a turnover. You can't do that. Right? And they still almost. They still almost came back.
Ben Jones
That was tough. That was tough.
Will Compton
Is it fair to say that Georgia is Alabama's daddy now in the sec.
Ben Jones
Bro, you gonna really take it easy? You gonna look me in my face, smile at me, and ask me that question? You got that much confidence? Actually, that. Yeah, bro. To say Georgia, you got to show.
Taylor Lewan
Your teeth to talk.
Will Compton
All right, hang on, Let me, Let me change it out.
Ben Jones
No, no, no, no, no, no. The question. The question's already out there. The question's already out there.
Taylor Lewan
Let him rephrase it.
Ben Jones
We just played Georgia. No, no, no. You already asked the question. No, no, no, no. We're good. We're good. You asked. You asked that with confidence. So I'm finna kill that confidence. All right. We just played Georgia last year in the national championship.
Will Compton
Georgia's Alabama. Saddy.
Ben Jones
They won, right? They won, right? And we beat them previous that same year in the SEC championship. We had both of our receivers, John Mechi and Jameson Williams. John Meshi goes down with acl, and then Williams goes down with ACL in that game. Bro, who, I mean, who is, who is Bryce gonna throw to in that game?
Will Compton
Two natties in a row now.
Ben Jones
Say it again.
Will Compton
Two natties in a row.
Ben Jones
Now I'm not taking anything away from Georgia, but I'm saying we had went previous that year. We just won it in 2020, and we went back in 2021. Georgia won it last year and they won it this year. We've won it 2009-2012-2015-2011, too. Oh, yeah, 2011. I'm sorry, 2011.
Taylor Lewan
9, 11, 12.
Ben Jones
No, no. 9, 11, 12, 15. Hold on, hold on, hold on 15.
Taylor Lewan
It's right here.
Ben Jones
17. No, I don't want to look.
Will Compton
Crimson.
Ben Jones
20. And that's it.
Taylor Lewan
You guys haven't been good since. You guys haven't been good since 2020.
Will Compton
Stop, stop.
Taylor Lewan
I'm just looking at the stats.
Ben Jones
We just won the SEC championship last year, though.
Taylor Lewan
Georgia is king shit in the SEC right now.
Will Compton
Okay, let me rephrase it. Would it be fair to say that Georgia is the king of the sec?
Ben Jones
No, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Right now.
Ben Jones
No, bro. They. They are playing great football. They are the two time defending champ. No, I'm saying. But I'm saying for the last two years, they've been outstanding. Okay, how about we have sustained that standard for 10 years? For 10 years. I just think when somebody's on top and been on top for so long, they can't wait for somebody to just come in and just take over. Alabama's not going nowhere, I'm sorry to say. But then, one recruit class this year.
Taylor Lewan
How about this? With this.
Will Compton
There you go.
Taylor Lewan
Is Kirby Smart the best head coach in the sec?
Ben Jones
Bro, stop, stop, bro. No, no. Who. Who is Kirby Smart under before he went to Georgia?
Taylor Lewan
I'm assuming Nick Saban.
Ben Jones
You were assuming Nick Saban?
Will Compton
Hey, just because Nick Saban's lived longer doesn't mean anything.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, Nick Saban is really just old. That's why he's successful.
Ben Jones
Think so?
Taylor Lewan
I mean, it seems like he's fallen off last year's years, the start of this decade.
Will Compton
Would it be fair to say that in 2022 Georgia was the king of the SEC?
Taylor Lewan
Oh, no.
Ben Jones
I can't live with that. No.
Taylor Lewan
Okay, how about this?
Will Compton
So you're dying with your. You're dying with your pride, which we can respect.
Taylor Lewan
We can do. One more question, though. Is it fair to say since 2020 Georgia has owned the SEC?
Ben Jones
No, bro. Oh, bro. That 2020 people are more scared to play Alabama that year in 2020 and killed him. 2020.
Taylor Lewan
They're scared of the dogs.
Will Compton
Yeah, the dogs.
Taylor Lewan
Anymore.
Ben Jones
You said the king of SEC since 2020. We beat them twice in 2020, right? In 2020. Right. We beat them twice in 2020. Right. Because we played regular season SEC. We beat them twice then. Right?
Will Compton
I know that.
Ben Jones
Yes. No, no, no, no. We did because it was an SEC schedule in 2020 because of COVID and they came to them and we beat them. So we beat them twice in 2020. Right. We beat them in 2021. SEC championship. They beat us in national championship. We didn't play. We didn't play. We didn't Play this year.
Taylor Lewan
What would you rather have, an SEC championship or a national championship?
Will Compton
Answer the question.
Taylor Lewan
Okay, okay.
Ben Jones
That's what I'm saying. Yeah, but we were still there. They. They. Yeah, they won. But so.
Taylor Lewan
So.
Ben Jones
So you telling me after watching that game on Monday night, you were like, what is this? They shouldn't have been there. That's what everybody was saying.
Taylor Lewan
Tcm.
Will Compton
Oh, absolutely.
Ben Jones
That's what I'm saying. And there's no. Not a tcu. But it's just like, they. I mean, you think. There was no competition.
Taylor Lewan
Bama should have been in it.
Will Compton
Tennessee should have been there.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Tennessee should have been in the national championship.
Ben Jones
We lost our field goal.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, I lost. Lost horseshoes and hand grenades. Close matters.
Ben Jones
It's okay. I. I lost when I was at Bam. We still won national championship. We lost Ole Miss.
Taylor Lewan
That was the Ole Miss.
Ben Jones
Yeah. That was a crazy game.
Will Compton
Do you wish that your mascot was a dog over an elephant?
Ben Jones
No, never, bro. Elephant's biggest animal in the jungle, boy.
Will Compton
What else you know about them?
Taylor Lewan
Are they in jungles?
Ben Jones
Huh? They go in jungles in the jungle, baby.
Taylor Lewan
You're in the jungle, baby.
Ben Jones
In the jungle, man.
Will Compton
Memories, too.
Taylor Lewan
What's a better mascot than an elephant?
Ben Jones
None.
Taylor Lewan
A wolverine?
Ben Jones
None.
Will Compton
Dog.
Ben Jones
Do y' all have a mascot? I never seen y' all messed up.
Taylor Lewan
In the 80s and it died, okay.
Will Compton
And then it became you guys.
Taylor Lewan
Are you guys Wolverines with Wolverines?
Will Compton
Wolverines.
Taylor Lewan
There's a taxidermy one sitting in the scheme. Beckler hall right now.
Ben Jones
But either way it goes, Maury's proud of our baby boys, man. We came up a little bit short. We finished the season strong. One thing about us, we just gonna go back to work, let everybody talk, and then come out and do what we do.
Taylor Lewan
I think.
Ben Jones
I mean, because when I was there my freshman. My freshman year, we lost to your freshman year.
Will Compton
Is that when you were getting paid?
Ben Jones
No, never got paid.
Taylor Lewan
That was to go to the school.
Ben Jones
I was earning my rings.
Will Compton
You're doing a good job.
Ben Jones
My first year, we lost to Auburn to kick six. Then we end up losing to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. Then my second year, we lost to Ole Miss, and then we ended up losing Ohio State in the playoffs. In my third year, we lost to Ole Miss again. We won national championship, SEC championship. So it's like, you know, you gonna have times where.
Taylor Lewan
What was Your first year?
Ben Jones
2012, 2013.
Will Compton
Success is in a straight line.
Ben Jones
Not always, man. Not always. It's not always. You know, Georgia had to work their way to get there. You know what I'm saying? But work their way to get where.
Will Compton
Ain't gonna work their way to get where.
Ben Jones
To win two in a row.
Will Compton
To be on top.
Taylor Lewan
To be on top.
Ben Jones
Yeah. Yeah. Because they want international championship kingship. Not any kings. No, bro.
Taylor Lewan
People are gonna be in this cabinet. They're doing it again.
Ben Jones
Y' all saw coach Saban whenever.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
It was crazy. Who is it? Who is the. David Pollock was like. Georgia is like the. The team in the sec. Yeah. And you literally see Nick Saban look down like this. You can see him taking that mental note. All right.
Will Compton
Bet this is the rat poison we needed.
Taylor Lewan
This is the rat poison we needed. Do you guys think you're going to be good next year?
Will Compton
Which.
Taylor Lewan
Who's gonna be your quarterback? Who's gonna be your quarterback?
Ben Jones
Probably be a open competition, I think.
Taylor Lewan
Spicy.
Ben Jones
It'll be open competition, but I think that's how it always is. Unless you just come in and just establish yourself right away. And it's just. There's no question. But I think it'd be an open competition until somebody just takes it over, which I think it'll go until camp is over.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
They'll go through spring and do all that and go through a day.
Will Compton
How does it feel to have two bama guys on top of the league in rushing?
Ben Jones
That's always nice, man.
Will Compton
You know the last game, right? 3 going into last week and then you ended up getting them.
Ben Jones
I was three, but yeah, man, this aspire rbu. I mean, you can't. You can't really. People always try to argue this. Them is rbu, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. You guys come a long way from Trent Richardson.
Will Compton
I was gonna say.
Ben Jones
Don't. Don't. Don't do.
Will Compton
Trent.
Ben Jones
Don't do trump like that.
Taylor Lewan
No, I like.
Will Compton
No.
Ben Jones
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right now.
Taylor Lewan
We were in the Under Armor game together. We were. Yeah. He is a stud.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And he. He had off the field deals or something going on. But this is not a disrespectful comment. He was the boss.
Ben Jones
Them is RBU for sure.
Taylor Lewan
Ey. Hilton for sure.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
Who.
Will Compton
Who competes with that. Who competes with you guys at rbu?
Taylor Lewan
Probably TJ Elden. Not Ty Hilton.
Ben Jones
Georgia, Georgia, Ohio State. Wisconsin.
Will Compton
Wisconsin.
Taylor Lewan
Wisconsin's got some studs. You remember that. You've seen firsthand what happens with Wisconsin running back.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
No. Lube. First team.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. No, I want you to know I wasn't coming at. I guess I was coming out.
Will Compton
Trevor threw him in the bus column. He is like, objectively, if you looked.
Taylor Lewan
At him, he is a bust now. I've been around him a couple times. I enjoyed him. I think he's a great guy for whatever happened. Just didn't work out in the league. But he's a buster.
Ben Jones
That's how it happens sometimes. You know, stuff like that happens and you just gotta. Gotta move on. We all want it to go, but we planned. But it don't go like that. But yeah, he's still a dog, man. He was a dog in college. Everybody know, you know, Rich was a dog.
Will Compton
He was an elephant.
Taylor Lewan
He was an elephant.
Ben Jones
For sure.
Will Compton
You were. I do wanna circle back.
Ben Jones
Got that dog in him.
Will Compton
Got that dog in him. I do wanna circle back.
Ben Jones
I didn't see what you did to my dog.
Will Compton
Oh, oh. When you got hurt last year, what was.
Ben Jones
No, no, no, no. I do want to speak on. You said having two Batman backs in the top two. Yeah. Proud of Josh. He worked for it went crazy. I got to watch his game against the 49ers, which is probably the best defense in the league. He was killing them. He didn't have a lot of yards, but he was going crazy. Very proud of Josh Mann and, you know, I think he earned everything he got this year. I know he didn't pick up his fifth year option this past year, so I know that was motivation. But proud of Josh, man. And you know, RBU Bama built Roll Tide. We know what it is.
Taylor Lewan
Do you think he'll be at the.
Ben Jones
Radio Harris Kenyan doing this thing?
Taylor Lewan
Oh, yeah. Naji is Bond too.
Ben Jones
Mark.
Will Compton
Yeah. You guys do have a lot of good.
Ben Jones
Mark Ingram holding it down for a while. Yeah, man. Proud of them boys, man. You know how we rock out.
Will Compton
You guys have some really good backs.
Taylor Lewan
Who's the back for the Saints?
Ben Jones
Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.
Taylor Lewan
Who was that? No, but he was at Alabama before he was there.
Ben Jones
We all. We all came. We all came. Me, Alvin came in together, man. Crazy.
Taylor Lewan
Most underutilized back in college football history.
Ben Jones
Who?
Taylor Lewan
Alvin Kamara.
Ben Jones
Part of his first year and then he left. Went to junior college. But when he went to Tennessee, we went crazy.
Taylor Lewan
People really didn't know about him like.
Will Compton
That at the time. Right. Jalen hurt.
Ben Jones
But he. But. But Alvin was a dog at Tennessee. What?
Taylor Lewan
Crazy Alvin Kamara was going to do what he's done in the league when he was in college.
Ben Jones
Yes. What are you talking about? You not see him at Tennessee.
Taylor Lewan
Don't do that. We have talked about this. Be like he was underutilized. I knew my Josh do.
Ben Jones
Said he was a dog at Tennessee, bro.
Taylor Lewan
A dog. But all right. I digress.
Ben Jones
You know we. We play them.
Taylor Lewan
When do you cut that one looks stupid as when do.
Ben Jones
When do.
Taylor Lewan
Obviously going to cut it.
Will Compton
Jack. Jack literally last week was even kind of saying that. But I guess now that.
Ben Jones
Nah, but when Jack. But speaking of speaking of Tennessee and when I was at Tennessee fight them in 15. They almost beat us. It was a close game. It came down to the wire. They were good. Now he was balling really.
Taylor Lewan
If it wasn't for the Gamecocks, they'd be in that college football playoffs.
Ben Jones
Yeah, that. That game was wild. Oh boy. Went crazy. And then Hendon got hurt. I hate, I hate to see that dude.
Taylor Lewan
It sucks. I saw him in LA when I. When. When he was put the Chargers. I went down there and get checked up and he was like super positive. Backup's name Joe Milton.
Ben Jones
Well, he nice.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, watch the ball game. Transfer from Michigan.
Ben Jones
He nice now. He nice.
Will Compton
Good. Like literally once he went down in.
Taylor Lewan
And finish, he needs to go back to Michigan.
Ben Jones
He nice. Does he have another year?
Taylor Lewan
I want him back.
Ben Jones
Is he not. Is he done back?
Taylor Lewan
He's going back.
Ben Jones
He's going back to Tennessee.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
Oh, he nice, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Starter before and then he was like overthrown.
Ben Jones
He was not no more dialed in. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Not no more quarterback controversy in Tennessee.
Ben Jones
He is big, bro. He's big. He's a big dude.
Taylor Lewan
You think he throws a farther?
Ben Jones
No, when he was throwing it, it looked like he was just like right.
Taylor Lewan
I ripping that thing.
Ben Jones
Be nice, bro. Be nice, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, come on, Jim. Our ball.
Will Compton
You don't like jj?
Taylor Lewan
I like JJ a lot, but I like competition. No, no, I like competition. I think competition makes the best out of all. So iron, sharp and iron.
Will Compton
Who would you want to be a starting quarterback at Michigan if it. He went there?
Taylor Lewan
If Joe Milton went there?
Will Compton
Yeah. Like, who would you want to be the.
Taylor Lewan
I want. I would want to see them compete and whoever the best one is, we come out better.
Will Compton
Hopefully.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, hopefully whoever does takes it to national championship and wins it against Georgia next year.
Will Compton
You hope comes out on top of that quarterback battle.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, I think I would hope the better player came out on top.
Will Compton
You're just. You're just wanting to get on your hands and knees for Joe Milton to go to Michigan. But then it's like, oh, get in the quarterback battle.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. I mean, unless Joe's afraid of competition.
Will Compton
Why go to Michigan and compete when you can just start in Tennessee?
Taylor Lewan
I mean, why not try and be great. Hey guys, I'll give Him. Empty promises. Yeah, but it's cool. Switch up sometimes. Like, your hair.
Will Compton
Do you think I. I was.
Taylor Lewan
We want to talk about your hair.
Ben Jones
It is so crazy, because at first people were making fun of my hair. Oh, it looks like this. It looks like that. Take it down. But then, now that I took it down, get your hair back. It's your super power. I'm like, bro, shut up. Be quiet now.
Taylor Lewan
I will say this.
Ben Jones
Shut up.
Taylor Lewan
Hits. Hits look harder on you with your hair down.
Will Compton
Yes.
Taylor Lewan
Because your hair.
Ben Jones
Because it flies everywhere. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Because I think somebody. I'm not gonna say who was like, I think Derek's taking harder hits this year. And I was like, bro, I think it's his hair just flying around more.
Ben Jones
It's definitely my hair.
Taylor Lewan
First one that comes to my head is the Giants game. This first game that was.
Ben Jones
I wonder who was blocking on that.
Taylor Lewan
You made me look really bad.
Ben Jones
Who was blocking on that play?
Taylor Lewan
Really bad on that play.
Will Compton
77.
Ben Jones
I think it was 77.
Will Compton
Definitely.
Ben Jones
White guy with tattoos are kind of, you know, I don't know.
Will Compton
Linebacker slipped and back door to him and then.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, yeah, that was tougher. The individual, but backwards.
Ben Jones
I was looking this way. I seen the safety. I was. I was jumping over somebody on the ground. I look in the straight. Rest is history. But I ain't gonna complain. I got back up and continued to play.
Taylor Lewan
When you saw one of your teammates at the dark visor on, did you think, wow, that looks really cool. I want to do that, too.
Ben Jones
I always thought dark visor on was. Was cool. When I seen Ladana Thompson wear. I always wanted to wear one because I saw him.
Taylor Lewan
It had nothing to do with an offensive lineman on your team that wore it.
Ben Jones
Not at all. It's hard to say.
Will Compton
Oh, you're saying he wanted to get the dog visor?
Taylor Lewan
Oh, my God. Well, bro, he is really like that. He just does. Derek got that.
Will Compton
I am like that. I am.
Taylor Lewan
I'm him.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Let's talk about the season. Hang on.
Ben Jones
I thought.
Will Compton
I thought I had a question.
Taylor Lewan
Okay, go ahead. That's exactly what we said we weren't gonna do, but go ahead.
Will Compton
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can't remember.
Taylor Lewan
That's tough.
Will Compton
Oh, what were the best, like, jokes you got with what your hair looked like? Because you. I know you're thinking of them. You said, you know, like this, like that. Like the other day, somebody's like, you know, Derek doesn't have the turd hanging out of the helmet anymore.
Ben Jones
I think you. I think, you know, that, that's why you asked that question and you just said one of them. That's why you, that's why you said that.
Will Compton
Like from your boys or anybody personally.
Ben Jones
You know, I heard, I heard it all. Taylor knows, he wants me to say. He just wait for a moment to laugh. You see his eyes, his eyes so big. He wait for a moment to laugh. It was all, it was all the jokes, but you know, I welcome them and all. I was balling, doing my thing, so I didn't really care. Taylor Lewan
We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community.
Benedict Townsend
When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chile pouring rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down, I think that was definitely a watershed moment moment for me. Not only was that gonna be my game, but it was gonna be my life.

I know a lot of cops, and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Ben Jones
Across the country, cops called this Taser the revolution.
Unknown
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Taylor Lewan
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

Taylor Lewan
You were doing your thing.
Will Compton
That was my question. That was.
Taylor Lewan
You were doing that thing. All right, so the season, obviously, it's hard to be a running back in this league. You just said how hard it is. Like, from college to NFL, it's got to be equally as hard when injuries happen in front of you. Like, Ben Jones went down this year. Ben Jones never goes down. He's always there. And yeah, I went down. Nate went down. We had Dylan for 10 seconds in the Chargers game. He went down. Who else? Brewer, our smallest guy made it through the whole entire season unscathed, it seems like.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
How was that? Like, was there a time. Obviously not coming at the players at all, but for you being, like, frustrated, like, damn. Because how we do has a lot to do with your success. Obviously, you still ball.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
But I'm saying, does that, like, affect. There's gotta be a level of frustration for you during the season when you see guys going down over and over again.
Ben Jones
Not really a frustration for me, but I just feel frustrated for my teammates, everybody that went down, because I see y'. All. And as far as you working your way back and excited for the season, you know, we have our talks and we do all that, and just to see it and how quickly it did, frustrating for you. Cause I know how much you love this game and you know how much you love playing ball and, you know, all the success that you had. And then with Ben, the same thing. Now we all like brothers, you know, we family, We've been together for so long, and to see all y' all just, you know, go down and not be able to finish the season and do the things that we've always done throughout the season, it was just. That was part of the tough part. But to me, I just try to focus on, you know, what. What I need to do to help us win and do all that, which it was different because. Different bodies, you know, new guys. Yeah, everybody. Everybody's different, so. But it was definitely tough this year just because it was so many different guys just coming in and, you know, trying to pick up, you know, our scheme and, you know, style we play. At the end of the day, I feel like those guys try to do the best job they can to fill in for y', all, but, I mean, it was still tough because we, you know, we chemistry, you know.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
How does it change the way you run the Rock? Like, how's it changed? Like, yeah, all that stuff's awesome. You're, like, the best to do it. It's like, how does that change the way you go out there and play? Like, if you're trying to get to know Lyman, you're talking about chemistry and everything else. Is it. Is it things that you gotta more so look at on film or talk to linemen, or is it just always, like, a field thing for you?
Ben Jones
No, I'm always gonna play the same. I think, you know, I think from watching y' all and being in the room with y' all and knowing the style we want to play and, you know, how we are with the run game, I feel like they, you know, got a, you know, glimpse of it, you know, from y' all being around y'. All. So I play the same. I don't try to worry about who's blocking this and that. You have. You got your job, and I'm gonna do mine, so.
Will Compton
Yeah. It doesn't take your eyes anywhere differently. No, I'm just trying to put myself in your shoes. I'm like, okay, if there could be, you know, some.
Ben Jones
No, because I'm. I'm.
Will Compton
Maybe I'm gonna take my eyes here on this.
Ben Jones
I'm basically looking at it because I'm too busy looking at the look the DP is giving. So I don't really, you know, everybody gotta got their job. But, yeah, I mean, it was. It was definitely tough.
Taylor Lewan
Well, it definitely plays in because it's a difficult offense to run for an offensive lineman. It's a unique offense that, like, four or five offenses in the league do, but, like, it all depends on stretch like, if one guy gets more stretch than another, you have to cut back plays faster. Now that's a reaction thing for you, but that does like, I could see myself in your shoes getting frustrated because it's like, damn, I want to do so well. Like, I see you and how you work and how you handle yourself on a day to day basis inside the building. It's like, Derek wants to be great every. Like he wants to be great and he wants like, them to be like, hey, we're running the ball and Derek's running the ball and this is why we're going to win. Like, you, you appreciate and you accept that responsibility. And then if I'm like, you're used to stretching a ball a certain, certain time or a certain amount of steps, and now like you, someone's out. So you can't, or you can't make that cutback because Ben's not there and the other person in there doesn't have the skill set that Ben does. I can see it being difficult.
Ben Jones
Yeah. Especially because, you know, Ben, you, y' all seen a lot of balls. So guys who, who come in there, you know, haven't, you know, you know, seen different looks and things like that and got in that fire like that. So definitely it's going to be some, it's going to be some adjustments. It's going to be different. Guys can't do what other guys do just because they've been in the system for a long time. And like you said, it's kind of. It can be hard for some offensive linemen if they haven't done it, you know, for a long time with y' all have. And I understand that. End of the day, I just try to give them confidence to be like, bro, it is what it is. This what it is. It's what we're gonna go out with. Let's. Let's go ball. But at the same time, you know, you know, everybody's skill set is different, but at the end of the day, we all got a job to do it and I had a job to do, so I'm gonna try to go out there and ball regardless.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
What was it like your first time get or getting injured? Actually, I don't even know if that was your first actual time getting injured.
Taylor Lewan
It's the first time you ever got surgery.
Will Compton
Really?
Ben Jones
No, no, no, no. I had surgery in college.
Taylor Lewan
I thought you said, oh, it was your first time getting surgery in the NFL.
Ben Jones
In the NFL. Yeah, it was tough. You know, I was hurt. You know, it was definitely different for me because it was my first time actually getting surgery during the season and missing the whole season. That's never happened before. Yeah, so that. So that was different. And I was just, like, I had to take a grasp of that and come to realization of what happened. And, you know, it was tough because watching games and, you know, this being at the house and watching y' all play, then that was. That was the toughest part, because I wanted to be a part of that. And, like, that never happened before. Like I said, with me being out for the whole season and trying to work my way back and doing everything I can to get back kind of. Kind of made me sit back and, you know, look at things different and, like, see, you know, everything in a different light as far as what's going on and everything around me. And people change, too. So, yeah, you feel like.
Will Compton
You feel like it was more mentally trying than you thought it would be, then maybe you anticipate. I don't want to say thought, like, anticipated, because I guess I'm trying to like being in your shoes. Like, you're part of this team. You got all the boys. You got A.J. brown. You just got. You get Julio. You're like, hey, this is going to be the team where we do it. You ran 2000 a year before. Ran for 2000 the year before. Now we get an extra game. I'm about to break all. I'm about to break all this stuff. You have personal ambitions, and then obviously team ambitions as well, and then it comes to a stop, and then you're going through all that, you're like. You're sitting there saying, I sat back and kind of reevaluate and assess things a little bit differently. Do you feel like those trying times were, you know, harder mentally than you anticipated them being?
Ben Jones
Yeah, definitely. It was. Mentally. It was. Yeah, it was tough mentally, for real, because, like you said, everything was. Was going and then just stopped. Everything just stopped and all you got to sit there, especially with breaking the bone time. So, you know, having surgery and then going through that part, and then I think once I got, like, was able to rehab, then stuff started speeding up a little bit. But mentally, yeah, it was. It was definitely tough because I'm just like, man, I mean, that's all I know. You know, I put so much work and so much time into football, and, you know, when it's the season time, that's all I'm. That's all I'm worried about. That's all I'm thinking about. I mean, I love this game and, you know, for everything to stop, I'm just like, man. But at the end of the day, I just had to put faith in the man above and trust what was going on and, you know, trust his. You know, his journey for me, and then work hard to get back, and I was able to get back, which wasn't good enough, but, you know, just happy to be able to get back and then work in the off season and then finish the season this year with the injury, because a lot of guys get the injury, and it's tough to come back from, but a lot of guys have came back from it. You know, reach out to Julio, which he had two surgeries on it, and it kind of gave me some encouragement about was. You know, it was. It was tough. It was different. But everybody has a different testament.
Taylor Lewan
That's a sad thing. I mean, I remember that. I remember the Colts came and you going up to you after that series and being like, you good? You're like, I think I. My. My foot up. My foot hurts. That's basically all you said.
Ben Jones
I played three quarters with a broken foot.
Taylor Lewan
Three quarters.
Ben Jones
I knew something was. I. I didn't know. I kind of. I figured it was broke, but I was like, you just don't want to believe it. I'm like, man, my foot.
Will Compton
Get the adrenaline. Go.
Ben Jones
It was. But it was killing me, though, the whole. The whole game. I'm like, man, this thing hurting.
Taylor Lewan
Walking on it, too.
Ben Jones
Walking on it. I mean, it was. It was killing me. I knew, like, after the game, I'm like, oh, man. Then when they. And we got X rays, bro, the X ray, his eyes got big. I said, what's going on, bro?
Taylor Lewan
What was the doctor. That guy, when his eyes got big?
Ben Jones
Dr. Petty. It was Dr. Petty.
Taylor Lewan
And he was like, it is like.
Ben Jones
Yeah, you broke your fifth metatarsal, which was known as a drone fracture. And I was like, okay, when can I get back? He was like, I don't know about that. It might. Might be a while. I was like, whoa.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, because you came back in the locker room, Me and Ben waited for you. Yeah, the whole locker room was cleared out, and me and Ben were like, we're gonna wait for Derek. And he clocked back in looking sad, sad as hell. And I was like, hey, what's up? You're like. He just whispered, I'm done, and then grabbed his towel and went and showered. That was tough, dude, because we. Especially Ben and I, like, there's not a whole lot of accolades we can hang our hat on. To be like, this is. Like, this is us. And when you were having the year, that was like, the year. You're like, 937 yards. And we're like, dude, we're really good at it.
Will Compton
And I know we're really. Later in the year, at the end.
Taylor Lewan
Of the year, he was still top five in rushing or just with six.
Will Compton
John Jonathan Taylor.
Taylor Lewan
You're nine.
Will Compton
Being an mvp.
Unknown
No.
Taylor Lewan
Which is crazy, because everyone was like. Everyone was counting Derek out. And we're like, yo, this guy's balling right now.
Will Compton
I know.
Taylor Lewan
Going crazy. And we're all like, this is gonna be like, it's your success. But we were looking at us like, damn, this is our year.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
This is the year that we're gonna get Derek the record.
Will Compton
Yeah. Yeah, man.
Taylor Lewan
Bro.
Will Compton
I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure that was difficult.
Ben Jones
Could have been.
Will Compton
And two with the bone, you can't. It can't. It's like it goes at its own pace.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I know.
Will Compton
You can't sit there and rehab it. You could do a little bone stem machine. I'm gonna do everything I can to get back.
Ben Jones
And I'm not known to have patience, but I had. I had to have patience with that.
Taylor Lewan
You didn't have a choice but to have patience.
Ben Jones
Yeah, for sure.
Taylor Lewan
Did you think. Was there a possibility you heard it more, or was it just like, hey, that's a clear fracture. It is what it is.
Ben Jones
I think I heard it before when I played.
Taylor Lewan
I would assume.
Ben Jones
Yes.
Taylor Lewan
I would assume you heard it more about playing.
Ben Jones
Yes.
Taylor Lewan
Which is crazy, because if you look back, you go, oh, I got to get out of the game right away. Like, if that happens, like, if you have the knowledge you do now, you're like, oh, I gotta get out right now. And you just let it ride because we won.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I know. I don't know.
Taylor Lewan
Like, 68 yards rushing.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I know. But it was tough sled, but I don't know. I. I think I still would have played.
Taylor Lewan
Did you break one in that game?
Ben Jones
No.
Taylor Lewan
Thank God.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I know.
Taylor Lewan
That would have been a tough look.
Ben Jones
I've been hopping on one leg, trying to get to the end zone. I wouldn't have made it. No. At all. It was hurting.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. You could tell, too. Then this last game, the la. This year when you played at the Colts, and you were. You were balling again, like you were going off. Like, I've never seen. Usually when you score, like, we joke all the time, like, it's just big eyes and kind of like, all Right back to the sideline. You know what I'm saying? But, like, when you were watching the game, I think we were texting in a group, being like, derek is legit. I've never seen passion like that from you getting in the end zone.
Ben Jones
Everybody said that.
Taylor Lewan
It really was. There was a noticeable difference in you. What's that?
Ben Jones
I know everybody was asking what they was, like, what got into you? You throw your helmet off, doing all this other stuff. I was like, man, I was just in the moment. I don't know. I was just in the moment.
Taylor Lewan
It's got to. There's got to be some sort of, like, emotional when you get hurt somewhere. Because the Indianapolis Stadium is so unique because that's where every. Every single person's NFL journey starts, that is invited to the combine.
Ben Jones
That's true.
Taylor Lewan
You get to go. You get to go to the combine. You run there, you look around, you're like, this is a legit NFL stadium. I had to rephrase the question halfway through.
Will Compton
Yep.
Taylor Lewan
But, like, everyone starts the combine. So for whatever reason, like, everyone has in their head when they walk out there, like, this is where it all start. All started for me. And that's where you. One of your seasons was ended. So there's got to be a place you. You went to before that game. Because we know how you keep receipts. We are very aware how you've said in the past, like, I. I don't keep receipts, but I'm. I remember that's how you phrased in the last podcast. Yes.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I definitely wanted to be a different ending other than when I got hurt, which still I would hurt, but I didn't have a great game. So I'm just like, man, I gotta go out there and put out a different result this game. And that's just my main focus. And we ended up winning. And I think I played all right. I didn't play because I wanted to play, but I played all right.
Will Compton
I appreciate you talking about the injury stuff, because I just feel like a lot of, like, every. Probably running back in the world probably looks up to you and people at one point.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
People get hurt. Or like, times where it doesn't make any sense at all. And it's like, you know, you speaking on it is almost like shedding light. Like, hey, these are. These are like, man, Derek. Derek went through something like this.
Ben Jones
I know it was real.
Will Compton
Like, may. Maybe I'm impatient. He's talking about, oh, I had to be patient. He had to do it, too. And you kind of, like, lean in like, oh, I want to be like Derek.
Ben Jones
Yeah, for sure it was tough. I mean, it was never easy, but you always appreciated the adversity. You know, versa builds character. It definitely made me better and, you know, made me tougher going through something like that, especially going into the middle of the season when everything was going where I wanted it to and everything to stop. But that's how life is. Life is, you know, it stops and you have bumps in the road, just gotta get over them and try to come out on top. And at the end of the day. So yeah.
Will Compton
Do you ever think about, you've had the two, you have the 2,000 yard seasons, you're you, you run your ass off, bro. But getting hurt the last time, do you ever think about your mortality more now in this league as you continue to get older as far as like coming, you know, when the ending could be for you or how many more years you could possibly have in the tank, think. And then because usually an injury, that injured season, you're like, man, I guess.
Taylor Lewan
It makes you reflect being like, damn, I, I am human. Yeah, right?
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
Yeah, definitely. You know, kind of brings you to the, to reality a little bit. Especially with, you know, I was having a lot of success and then everything stopped and then went to like, oh, he's getting older, the injury might slow him down and all that type of stuff. And it, you know, it's a different outlook of everything because before it was like, he's a beast, he's this and that. And then it's like, oh, the injury's gonna slow him down. He's not the same. But you know, you try to block out the noise and then go back to work. But I don't try to put like a limit on how long I want to play or how I'm feeling. I just go play. You know, I love this game and I'm gonna continue to work as hard as I can to play as long as I can. And when I feel like I'm ready to hang it up, and I'll hang it up. But you know, every player I work probably wants to end it on their, on their terms. And sometimes it don't go that way, but like I said, I just put my faith in the man above. And then whenever it's supposed to end this, it's going in. But until then, I'm gonna focus on getting better and keep balling and doing whatever I can to be one of the best in the league and one of the best players on my team to help us win. So, yeah, that's always the goal. You know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
So it's just a scary. It's a, It's a, It's a scary thought, like, because you don't want the Titans going to a rebuild, rebuild year with you with a lot of good ball left. And I just, I want so bad. You made me laugh so hard just now. I looked, I cried a little bit.
Will Compton
I shot a text.
Taylor Lewan
I want so badly for the. I want so badly for the Titans to do well. And I just hope that they can do whatever they need to do this year to, like, make sure it's like, all right, we're a playoff contending, AFC south champion team again.
Will Compton
And.
Taylor Lewan
And I guess a better question is like, do you think you do that through the draft or you do that through trades? Because the Rams, up until this year, they traded, like, we got to win now. Like, you're a generational talent. Derek Henry is a generational talent. How do we make sure Derek doesn't get wasted?
Ben Jones
Yeah, I think as far as me, I don't think I need to be the focal point. I think it's like, what do we do on all three phases, especially offense, you know, to, you know, help the team better and to play better as an offense as well. And I think you just see, see what's out there, see what you gotta do as far as strategy wise. Again, this is above my pay grade, but, you know, I just want us to get back to how we were playing and doing the things that. Things that we were doing. I mean, I want, I want to win the championship here so bad and want to bring the first one to Nashville, but at the end of the day, you know, we just got to get, you know, pieces in here to put it all together, all together to make it work. And, you know, hopefully, you know, it'll happen this off season and we'll be able to do that, bring some guys in to help us, you know, spring us forward and go out there and make some plays and go out, get back to balling and doing what we do.
Taylor Lewan
Because to be successful, for the Titans, to truly be successful, we can't just be. Derek Henry gets the ball. Like, you need to get touches and you need to get 20, 25 touches a game to be successful, but we have to be able to push the ball down the field. From an aerial standpoint, what do you.
Will Compton
Think it is built to the draft trades? I mean, at the end of the day, until it happens, you're under contract. I think you're A tight next year, like, you guys are both tights next year, I can be the guy who asked the question.
Ben Jones
Yeah, but then.
Taylor Lewan
Then you got to fix the offensive line. That's a. Like you. That is. I think the number one thing that the Tennessee Titans need to do is they need to fix the offensive line. They need. If Ben retires, they need to find a center. They need to find a left tackle. They need to find a right guard. If Nate doesn't sign back, you need to hope that Nick. Nick Petit develops more from a rookie and takes a step in the next year.
Will Compton
You need a wide receiver.
Taylor Lewan
You need a wide receiver, like. And you got to figure out why the fuck these injuries are happening. It happens once. It's understandable. Freak things happen this season. That was crazy. We set the record. We're still the number one seed in the AFC South. Now it's like, it happens two years in a row. What is happening on that football field for the Titans to be hurt? I don't think it's Mike Vrabel's problem. I think Rabes takes his guys that are older and guys are his stud players, and he gives them opportunities to get healthy and stay healthy. But for whatever reason, it's not happening. So why. Why does that happen? You need to figure that out objectively.
Will Compton
There's. There's two areas. There's the strength and conditioning area, and there's the training room area. Yeah, but I'm saying, like, if you're talking about. If we're. If we're asking questions on, you know, if we want to play armchair gm, then we got to be able to. We got to be able to objectively say, okay, well, what's happening on the field? It's like, well, there's the two areas you look at.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
You know what I mean?
Taylor Lewan
I understand what you're saying.
Will Compton
It's like, if you want to go down the road of, you know, hey, do you. Do you let go of the strength staff or the training room? You know what I mean? And I don't think it would be fair to put either of you guys in a situation to say yes or no.
Taylor Lewan
I don't think. I think Todd Torcelli is a phenome trainer, head trainer in this league. I think he's got a great staff. I think Frank is a good strength coach, but maybe bring other people in, like you would do in any business, to help evaluate and say, these are things you can do better. Yeah, these are things you could improve on. And then you guys give them the reins and the tools and say, all right, now you guys go. Go do these things. I'm not saying you need to replace Frank or Todd or their staff, because you do not. I think those are. I like them individually and I think they're good at their jobs. But I'm just saying. Just going off of what you're saying.
Will Compton
Right. What I was getting at is if we kind of stop there and we kind of play the whole question and then we kind of just let it be in the clouds, then it leaves it up for translation for everybody else out there watching. Like, oh, they could be alluding to this. They could be alluding to that.
Taylor Lewan
Right.
Will Compton
Or, you know, you get into like you, you could bring in.
Taylor Lewan
I'm talking about players. Yeah. And this whole like, like Derek said, this is above all of our pay grades to where this is like, hey, it's not even worth touching because I don't know. I don't know how to keep myself healthy, let alone an entire team. So I would say, like, look at, like, how do we get players in? Because if you look at our roster in camp, starting day one of camp, it's a good roster. We have good players. You're missing A.J. brown. Hindsight's 20 20. We missed on that. That sucks. I'm sure John would like to take that back if he could. I'm sure there's the actual truth that both sides are embellishing to help themselves a little bit better.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
But obviously you wish AJ Brown was on this team. But our roster wasn't bad looking at all. We had a solid offensive line on the roster with a good right tackle competition going on. Our defense, our front seven is. Was incredible. Our back end, you had Roger McCreary, who's a young guy but bald this year, did well for a rookie. Like, like, I don't know if he was on any all rookie teams, but he should have been. And then you have Hooker and kb and Hooker got hurt too, this year.
Ben Jones
And Fulton.
Taylor Lewan
And Fulton, who also got hurt. He missed how many games? Six games.
Ben Jones
I'm not sure.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, he missed. He missed a handful of games. Yeah. But I'm saying, like, you look at the, the, the week one roster. Not even the week one roster. The going into camp roster, I think a good team. How do you keep those guys healthy? But who do you get? Like, you got to fix the O line. That's the number one thing.
Ben Jones
Yeah. I mean, as far as, like, you know, what's happened these past few, like, like few years with these two years with injuries. I think it's just evaluation of everybody. What can we all do better to improve, you know, the organizations, you know, through players and how we play and the injuries and just for everybody, except evaluation, what can I do to help, you know, us be better as whole? And I think that is needed because these past few years, it's been rough with injuries and all those type of things, and we just never had, like, a series of where, you know, we had a couple games where we had everybody and everybody felt good and everybody was healthy. So it was just like, how can we get to that? How are these teams sustaining, you know, keeping their players, you know, throughout the whole season?
Taylor Lewan
How does Roger Saffold get injured a whole bunch for the Titans and goes to the Buffalo Bills and has not injured the whole season and plays well.
Ben Jones
He's been balling this year.
Taylor Lewan
He's been balling this year. Right. And he's a year older with less tread on the tires Again, and this is not me coming at the Titans, because I. I am. Everybody knows I'm definitely proud of. I'm a part of the organization, so I'm excited. And for now, I am, too. Derek. Okay, I got, like, two or three more weeks left on the old belt here, but I'm saying I'm not coming at the Titans. I think just like, if I am the owner, if I'm Amy, that's the number one thing I'm fixing or trying to figure out how to fix is why are these injuries happening and how can we stop them from happening? Yeah, because injury rate in The NFL is 100, but you're hoping it's 100 for, like, two, three guys a year, and then you have the rest of your. Your core foundational team. But like, even Jeff said in his exit, his last interview in the Jags locker room, he's like, I've been shooting on my ankle every single week for eight weeks, and. And Jess Adalynn talk, but this shit's tough.
Ben Jones
I feel like. I mean, ours training staff and strength and conditioning staff do a great job, but just like, I mean, how can we all improve on, you know, helping one another and, you know, everybody's staying healthy and being out there being available because your best ability is availability. So, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones

San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team.
Taylor Lewan
We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community.
Benedict Townsend
When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chile pouring rain.

Ben Jones
Across the country, cops call this Taser the revolution.

But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Taylor Lewan
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

Will Compton
DeAndre Hopkins tweet.
Ben Jones
What did he tweet out?
Will Compton
He posted how much that was from 2020.
Ben Jones
Wow. Oh, I saw that.
Will Compton
It's resurfaced. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Knowing that we. That we could use a receiver. You Lamar Jackson. The trio. The. Yeah, the tweet that has resurfaced from 2020. How many touchdowns between Lamar. DeAndre, how would you feel about that trio being in Tennessee?
Ben Jones
I saw where they were saying that the Cardinals are looking to were looking to trade Hop. I mean, who wouldn't want to play with Hop? He's a Hall of Fame wide receiver.
Will Compton
Right.
Ben Jones
And the same thing with Lamar Jackson. But I don't think it's going to happen. You know, I don't think the Raven's definitely not going to let Lamar go. He's not going anywhere. And then DeAndre Hopkins. It depends on what makes sense for your team and, and you know, what they want to, you know, as far as the cap space and if. And if they have a cap space for him. So he's a great receiver. You know, I love to play with, you know, DeAndre Hopkins. I mean that'd be surreal. You know, he's a dog. But I mean it just depends on what makes sense which like I said, that's about my pray grade. I don't know.
Taylor Lewan
But you got a guy like DeAndre Hopkins on the outside, you can't stack the box like that.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
People helps everybody.
Will Compton
For sure.
Taylor Lewan
Helps everybody.
Will Compton
Another question, like what was it like on game day watching A.J. brown do A.J. brown against Tennessee uniform?
Ben Jones
I mean I didn't expect anything less. I knew A.J. was going to go off cuz I seen it here. So AJ gon going to do what he do? He a dog, bro.
Will Compton
When they, when they had the penalty and then he did it the second time.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Will Compton
You can't do nothing but just be.
Taylor Lewan
Like man, you the sidelines. Like damn. Yeah, he really did it.
Ben Jones
AJ is him. I know broke the single receiving record affiliate his first year.
Taylor Lewan
So did he really?
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
How many yards did he get?
Will Compton
I feel like that was. I feel like that was a straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe over 1500 and we don't have to get into all the J. Rob stuff but I feel like that like objectively me being on the outside.
Ben Jones
Being on no team 1496 but I always told him, I said, man, you get the opportunity, you're gonna go crazy. And you got opportunity. You see what he did with it? I texted him, I said, I'm proud of you, bro. Just keep going, finish strong, and you. Doing you, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Now the Titans are out of the playoffs, who do you think you're gonna see in the Super Bowl? It's Philly in the Super Bowl.
Will Compton
I don't think so. I think it's the Niners. I think it's the Niners in Buffalo.
Ben Jones
Niners is tough, but you just. You never know.
Taylor Lewan
You really staying away from Kansas City still, huh?
Will Compton
I think Buffalo.
Ben Jones
I think it could go either way. It could be Kansas City or it could be Buffalo.
Will Compton
Yeah, I'm not gonna root for Kansas City if they play against Buffalo. Really? If they play for anybody. Against anybody.
Taylor Lewan
Why do you hate Kansas City so much?
Will Compton
I don't. I don't hate Kansas City so much. I know. I kind of reacted right there. I don't hate Kansas City so much.
Taylor Lewan
I want to get beat up again.
Will Compton
It's just. I'm not going to, like, root for them. You know what I mean?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, I feel you, like, being, like.
Will Compton
Playing for the Raiders, like, that's their biggest rival.
Ben Jones
I mean, you just. I don't know. You just. I mean, you really never know because since he's. Since he's good, too, now.
Will Compton
Two teams. But I would always argue against my mom, too. My mom loved Kansas City, and I always be like, I was pro Dallas, but I would just argue my mom that she was dumb rooting for Kansas City. They were always going to let her down. They've obviously done well recently, but recently, that's. I feel like that's like a. A subconscious, like, something underneath. Why I always just root against.
Ben Jones
But do you think. Do y' all think it's tough to, like, choose who's going to be there at the end this year?
Taylor Lewan
Yes. It's gonna be a good playoff picture.
Ben Jones
It's definitely gonna be a big playoff fixture.
Taylor Lewan
I feel like Kansas City is definitely, like, the Georgia Bulldogs of, like, the AFC right now. Like, they're on top.
Will Compton
But I think, like, who's the Alabama of the afc?
Taylor Lewan
Probably the Jags.
Will Compton
Yeah, that's so. Yeah, I think so.
Taylor Lewan
They'd be, like, right? Yeah. Like, barely got in.
Will Compton
Yeah. They were outside looking in. They were outside the conversation looking in, trying to get in.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
Last week, it came down to last.
Ben Jones
Jackson playing really good ball.
Taylor Lewan
Dangerous, bro.
Ben Jones
For the B3 and 7, and then come back, back and play the way they have, they've been. No hats off then. They played, they played well.
Will Compton
They beat us twice, you guys, in 20, 19. 2019.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I mean they, they play well. They play hard. They play well on defense. They go full, full tilt. Offense is playing well. They've got some free agents, guys who, you know, lived up to, you know, what they signed for and they've been playing well. Trevor Lawrence, he's a young gun, so fallen. I'm doing. They've been a good, they've been doing a good job. So hats off to them. I ain't never hating on nobody. I mean just. They're here, they've been playing well.
Will Compton
Yeah, you've owned them historically though. That's for us.
Ben Jones
I've had some good games.
Taylor Lewan
We will say that.
Ben Jones
I've had some good games.
Taylor Lewan
Tear talk.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
What Tear talk. It's going to be centered around you, so it's going to be easy.
Will Compton
You're really not.
Ben Jones
But, but, but you're talking about. But this, this is gonna get Bon out proportion.
Taylor Lewan
Go ahead.
Ben Jones
But it is what it is because.
Will Compton
I, Yeah, I would.
Ben Jones
But you talk about you might have three more weeks. I mean, I mean, they might, might want to get me out of here. You mean, you just, you just never know. I mean anything can happen. I mean, I'm 29, I'm up in age, you know, what happened with, you know, this year and they might be, they might want to go young. You just never know. They might.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, I would be, I would be.
Ben Jones
I'm not saying I want to leave. I love Tennessee and hope to be here the rest of my career. I want to bring super bowl here. But it just, it's reality thing. It's just the business side of it, you know, you just, I mean, you just never know my age being 29 in the league, being a running back, that's considered, that's old. So you know, you're, you're legit beating.
Taylor Lewan
Running back stereotypes right now. You're the only back.
Ben Jones
I don't think so. Because I feel like.
Taylor Lewan
Tell you why you are Frank Gore.
Ben Jones
Did that ain't going past 16 years.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
And now I'm Marcus Allen played 16 years. Adrian Peterson been playing for a long.
Taylor Lewan
Time trying to be in the NFL.
Ben Jones
Right?
Taylor Lewan
Adrian Peterson?
Ben Jones
Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Yeah, he is so. I mean those guys are definitely the standard. It's not like I'm gonna go out there and like chase them like, oh, I gotta play that long. No, but like I said, whenever it's my time to be done, I Mean, I'm sure, I know, like a science.
Will Compton
Project for everybody in the media. You're like, yo, you 2,000 yards, you're in and you're out. Like, when's it gonna stop? When's it gonna slow down? Like, okay, he's gonna slow down. He works out way too hard. We all see this stuff on Instagram. He works out way too hard. He gets, he gets jacked. How long, how long can he keep this up? And then you prove it again. You prove it again. You prove it again. Obviously, yeah. When he's like, you're beating the stereotype. I think ultimately the, the universal stereotype is like how you haven't really seen anybody do what you've done for this period of time.
Taylor Lewan
If you look at statistically backs that have renegotiated contract with the same team, you are the only back in recent years that numbers have gotten better after getting an extension. A long, a long term extension. And that has nothing to do with those backs and how much they care about football. Let's just say everybody equally cares about football the same. Everybody equally works just as hard. The running backs are fucked to some extent because everyone says running backs only have so many years. And you truly are like, he's saying science project. You truly are one of those individuals. Like, hey, you're like in Tom Brady. You're about to be in Tom Brady. You're soon. For a running back where it's like, dude, he's just still balling. He is still just doing his thing. People count him out. People could be like, if you turn a game and you watched Denver this year when he had 40 yards and you would say, oh, man, Derek, Derek, he's. He's lost a step. He's whatever. And you're not, not, not looking at injury as the king ended. And then you look at the end of this, like 16. You look at 16.
Ben Jones
No, but I mean, that's, that's valid, you know, especially like with my, my injury and, you know, me being up in age. Those questions come, you know, they come for everybody. They always come. Because I mean, you know, running backs, their span in NFL is not long. And I know people probably brought us out of portion about what I said, but I'm just being real, you know, with, you know, with the history, you know, running back is 20, 29, 30 is just, you know, usually you try to get him out of there or think he's going downhill to Chris Johnson.
Taylor Lewan
Chris Johnson was doing well. And they were like, we want to go young.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
When he Was in the podcast. That's what he said.
Ben Jones
And then like you said, you know, you know, office been sitting around me a long time, and sometimes people won't see something different. Maybe people tired of seeing me sitting around me. So, I mean, I'm just. I'm just being real. I'm not saying I want to be trading anything like that, but I'm just.
Will Compton
Saying, like, you just never know.
Ben Jones
You just never know. Know.
Will Compton
Yeah, you don't ever know. Like, it's like, especially with a new.
Ben Jones
Gm, he might be like, man, get this Henry boy out of here, man. We gotta get him out of here.
Taylor Lewan
Imagine, imagine. Imagine Derrick Henry in a different uniform than the Titans. Blasphemous. That would be blasphemous. It'd be weird for. Yeah. You and Jack, right? Two longtime Titan fans, literally. Derek gave you something to, like, believe in again.
Ben Jones
I love Nashville, man. It's been. Been home for me. Plus, Bama, my little girls are growing up here, so, I mean, Nashville is home for me. I love playing for the Titans. I love the whole organization. Love everybody in the organization, and I love all my teammates I played with now and in the past. At the end of the day, I mean, it's the NFL. It's not for long.
Will Compton
Right. You should depend on the situation.
Ben Jones
That's how it go.
Will Compton
The owner or a new gym could look at like, oh, we're happy he just got 1600 yards. Maybe that's. That's. We can see that as him being at the top and use that, like, while we have him here right now, we could trade him off for some draft capital or for another. A younger.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, but if I'm Derek and if you're going to trade me, I'm like, all right, pay me then. Pay me more money right now then.
Will Compton
What do you mean?
Taylor Lewan
If I'm Derek and I'm speaking for Derek, I'm not. Derek doesn't have to speak on this. If you're going to trade me to, let's just say a random team, your favorite team, Kansas City Chiefs.
Will Compton
Right.
Taylor Lewan
I'm saying, all right, if you guys want to trade for me, then you need to pay me this amount of money. And then. Then if I say no, then the position doesn't go through and Derek plays for the Titans or he doesn't play or he does whatever he wants. I'm saying if. If.
Will Compton
Because does a player have that ability to just.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Players.
Ben Jones
And then at the same time, you know, I know I didn't take care of the ball well this year. Which, you know, I know Marv's gonna help hold myself accountable for, you know, my fumbles or my turnovers and anything like that I need to get better at. That's one thing about this game. You think you arrived. Not saying I have, but I'm saying it always, you know, humble you and show you that it's always room for improvement. And that's what I always want to focus on, is improving. I need to improve on taking the care, taking care of the ball better, which put us in harm's way. Put us in harm's way a lot this year and kind of makes me feel like bi, Tch. Because I, you know, pummeled so much this year, but something I need to do better at, and I will definitely focus on this year and all season of taking care of the ball and practicing that a whole lot.
Will Compton
Is that something you look back on this past season? You're like, damn.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I just. It's nags me every time, you know, I think about it, and I wish I could have done better, but same time, stuff like that happens, and you need to improve. That's one thing I definitely want to improve on.
Will Compton
So, yeah, yeah, I definitely want to learn more about that little player thing that you were just talking about. You know, he see, he said, play, pay me more or I, I, I won't go.
Taylor Lewan
I believe players can say, I will not accept that trade or, or like Gronk did when he was the patient.
Will Compton
I'm retiring, I'm retiring.
Ben Jones
And then you can like something, and it won't get past. You don't.
Will Compton
If you, if you have a trade clause in your contract, then I think you could say you kind of get to choose where you go. But if you don't have a trade clause you don't have, they can ship you wherever they want. Oh, hey, no, you can't do that. You got to pay me more. No, we don't. See you.
Ben Jones
I think you don't have a trade clause. They can ship you. They can trade you wherever they want to trade you at.
Taylor Lewan
Damn.
Will Compton
And all I was speaking to is when you just have the perspective of, you know, when you're telling Taylor, like, you know, you say three weeks, but, bro, you never know. He's like, they could get rid of me so they could look in.
Ben Jones
Well, I'm terribly sorry, and I should have said something before, but you had this booger in your nose. This whole podcast. The whole podcast, yeah, it's been sitting.
Will Compton
There, but ain't none of y' all gonna say Nothing. Where at? Where's it at?
Ben Jones
You got it? It's going now.
Will Compton
Oh, okay. Do you think it was visible on the. You think it was visible?
Ben Jones
They couldn't see it. It's probably not visible. Was hanging though. It was hanging out right there.
Will Compton
A hanging grip and.
Ben Jones
No, but what were you saying about.
Taylor Lewan
I was saying like to refocus on for Will.
Will Compton
I was talking about the, the, the, the method of somebody could be like, okay, it's good that he ran for 1600. Like, maybe we think he won't be the same player going in the next year.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I mean that's, that's real.
Will Compton
Like, that's real armchair gm. Not saying he's not. It's just like, oh, damn. We could have, we could hedge our bet now. It's good that he performed that well. We don't think he's going to next year. This is our time to trade him because he will be at his highest trade value right now with 1600 yards, 2000 yards, this, that, the other. He proved he's healthy now for a season. And that's just, that's speaking to the perspective of. You ultimately never know in the business of like, you know, the NFL.
Ben Jones
I mean, you don't know. I mean, do we think AJ's gonna get traded?
Taylor Lewan
No, no.
Ben Jones
That's what I'm saying. You just don't. You never know. And that's just the reality of it. I mean, it's a business.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
And Tennessee Titans is a business. It's not Derrick Henry stays here forever or any other place stays forever. It's a business. They gonna look out for what's best for the organization and the business before anything. Nobody's bigger than, you know, the organization, so. And that's just real. That's just real. I mean, I've been, I'm.
Will Compton
No, no, you're. No, you're right. You're right.
Taylor Lewan
You're. That is, you want good things to.
Ben Jones
Last forever, but something in the NFL, it really, really doesn't. The only person who really has the last forever for Tom Brady and he could, he did what he want for a long time.
Taylor Lewan
As soon as he's done, there's a 300 million dollar contract.
Ben Jones
Yeah. So you know what I'm saying, It's worked out for him very well as.
Will Compton
Long as he's wanted to play.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. I wonder what's gonna happen in this office.
Will Compton
What was your reaction? Like, Like, I'm sure the same as everybody's. What a boring ass question. I was gonna say, what was your Reaction on draft night when you saw AJ Got traded, I was.
Ben Jones
I was mad. I'm just like, what's going on? We couldn't get it worked out. We trading. I thought my little brother. I mean, we was a tandem, you know, I was just like, man, I was hot. I lost him on the phone. Cause I was just like, man, I ain't. Because nobody expected that. He was like, what? Right, A.J. a proven receiver. So, yeah, I was. I mean, I was kind of. I was shocked out, and I was. I was hurt. That's my dog.
Will Compton
Yeah. Situation being closer to me, like, low key. Why didn't any of you guys, any side, keep me in the loop on this? Because I could have been a tool to keep AJ Here.
Ben Jones
No. Cause I didn't think it was gonna happen. I. I was. I was waiting for it to come out. A.J. brown signed $100 million with the Titans. I was waiting on that.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
I was literally, I think what I was doing, I was walking in the room and it said, AJ Brown trade to the Eagles. I was like, what? Yeah, I was like, oh, we together watching the draft. That was wild.
Taylor Lewan
I was watching the draft, like, oh, my God.
Will Compton
Called each other, like, right away.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
But I will say, the guys who play receiver this year, they did, you know, a great job. You know, it was tough, especially being, you know, first year with Rob and Treylon, being a rookie. And then Nick, you know, he's been here going on year three. He's been solid for us. I mean, they did the best job they could, man, and tried to fill in and make plays for us. It ain't always easy. It's never going to. To go the way we want it to go. And, you know, hats off to them, you know, because trying to play somebody like AJ who just broke this single single season record for the Eagles and been going crazy. It's hard to try to replace somebody like that. And living in that shadow, that's tough for anybody. But I feel like they tried to do the best that they could, so that was wild.
Taylor Lewan
Damage.
Ben Jones
It was tough. It was. I mean, it was tough. And then playing with three different quarterbacks and trying to build the chemistry and everybody. That's tough. Tough. That's tough.
Will Compton
I like how you stay mindful of everybody who could be involved in a situation.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Ben Jones
I mean, like, you.
Will Compton
You go back to make it a point to talk about the guys who came in when I was. Did their best on a surface.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I know. Because I don't want to leave, like, dang, he. I'm not that type of teammate to leave anybody, anybody hanging. It's hard in this league, you know, and you know, anything can happen and, you know, injuries happen and guys got to step up and guys got to make plays and, you know, AJ was a, you know, big time player for us. And then you end up in another team and other guys gotta step up. And I feel like they try to do the best that they could.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, that's very interesting.
Ben Jones
And just like you said, just like you pointed out with the, the linemen, when guys go down, the other guys gotta step up. I never, they probably never thought they're like, man, they'll be starting in two or three games and look, you know, that's just what it is.
Taylor Lewan
How about Jordan Rouge and Corey Levin?
Ben Jones
Tough, you know, went out there and, and laid it all out. And then, you know, I, watching them throughout camp and throughout the season, had all the confidence in them, you know, because they, they love this game and they play hard just like you guys.
Taylor Lewan
They seem like they really played well in those last few games.
Will Compton
Should we hit the tear talk?
Ben Jones
People just, people just bash everybody, man. You know, especially when you, it's one thing when a player know, you know, he's not playing as well as he, you know, should be or, you know, playing to the standard that, you know, everybody expects somebody to play and players already know that. So, you know, and people always speak on like mental health and all this type of stuff, but people don't know that you contribute to that. You know, when, say a player lashes out or something happened, they'd be like, oh man, mental health is so important. But people don't realize you contribute that when you sit there bashing the player when they already know are they playing bad and then gotta go watch it and then gotta get coached by it and then still trying to mentally be there to get past that game and go to another game and play as well as they can while, you know, you know, social media and all this type of stuff. And you know, somebody asked me during the season about social media comments, I was like, man, I'm gonna get into all that because how I'm gonna do all that and try to do my job the best way I can, but, you know, that's just the way way the world now. And you know, with fantasy football and guys ain't playable, I see all the time people like, man, I don't care about your fantasy football, but it's just what it is. NFL is about money and, you know, we all got a job to do. We all, you know, play this game with our. With our heart out. And sometimes it don't go the way that we want it to, especially each game, because it's tough. And, you know, you get. You get bashed and people get bashed. But end of the day, we. We human beings, you know what I'm saying? We got feelings too. We, you know, we try to do our best, and sometimes it don't happen the way we want it to, but I just. I don't know, I just think about players and mental health and all that type of stuff. And, you know, sometimes it get tough for certain people when you don't know them and what they're going through.
Will Compton
Yeah, no, I feel you were saying something too. You're like, you. Ultimately, you already know when you have a bad game. You're already.
Taylor Lewan
You're.
Will Compton
You're.
Ben Jones
Taylor can attest to that. When you know you playing bad and you know you gotta watch how you play bad and you gotta get coached from it. And you already, you know, in your head, like, man, I gotta play better. Try to move on from that. Cause it's a new week. But you still, like, dang, you still got that hanging on you.
Will Compton
Coaches already.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
Your players are hearing the same thing. Then you're trying to, like, get past it. That next week, media's still talking about it. Then people on the Internet, like, it's just there's multiple ways when you're also trying to be, like, mentally tough and persevere through some adversity. It's like people don't understand that. They.
Ben Jones
I think people do understand because it's what we signed up for. But at the end of the day, man, there's a lot of mental stuff that you like. We always say the game is 10% physical, 90% mental, 10% physical. Because, I mean, physical part, we got it. That's why we're here to play. But mentally, you gotta be locked in to be able to sustain and play this game for as long as you have, as long as the seasons are, and play it at a high level over and over again. And I think that, you know, anytime I see people, you know, bashing players and saying they playing bad, especially with this fantasy football stuff. I mean, fantasy football is great. It's entertaining. At the end of the day, you know, we human, you know, we love this game. We're not trying to play bad on purpose. Sometimes you. You don't have good games. Would we love to go for 100 yards and go crazy every game? Yeah. But it's reality of it. It don't happen that way all the time. You know what I'm saying? And I just think that, you know, when people bash people playing bad, they already know that you don't have to, but that's just the way the world.
Taylor Lewan
Now it goes both ways, too. Like, everybody wants to have 100 yards. But then when you have games like you've had in the past, if Derek Henry just gets 100 yards, like, why is Derek only getting 100 yards?
Will Compton
I need some yards. Only 10 points for me on the faceboard. I'm trying to get.
Ben Jones
I'm just saying it's like, be mindful of, like, you know, these. These players, man. Cause a lot of players.
Will Compton
And I'm fucking around too, by the way.
Ben Jones
Yeah. You know, I'm saying a lot of players can't. Can't take that type of stuff. Like with somebody who on the Internet wants somebody to come to their job and just critique them about everything they do. Oh, you gonna do this right? And you be like, how you gonna tell me how to do my job? Exactly. That's how we feel. If you got a chance to put your job. Only thing is, with our job, it's on TV and everybody has an opinion on it. You know what I'm saying? So they get to say what they want to say. But if it was a regular day job, but we got to. All the pro players go to a random person's job and critique them on everything, you know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
They would mentally fall apart.
Will Compton
It's entertaining, though.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, it's entertaining. I think that what separates an individual from a good to a great player is being able to mentally handle those types of situations.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Because you have a bad game. You're right. If, like. Like if I have a bad game, I not only have to have the bad game, I have to go home. I have to watch the film on that bad game. Because you obsess over it. You're like, damn, how could I? What could I have done better? And you watch every little thing. And then you do two things. You say, man, I really got up in this situation, or I really messed up. And then you start playing the. Your own ego kicks in where you're like, well, it wasn't that bad. All I have to do is change X, Y and Z and I'm straight and I'll fix that next time. Then you go to coach, though.
Will Compton
Doesn't go too hard.
Taylor Lewan
Then you go to sleep, you wake up, up anxiety because you know, you hit that team meeting. You know how variable can get in team meetings. You go to the office lineman meeting. Keith Carter, you know how Keith Carter was in those meetings. I told you about those. Like, he will just go off on dudes. So you're hearing over and over and over again. And then as soon as that Monday hits like, okay, now take a, take your Tuesday, make sure you're recovered and get ready to work Wednesday for the next game. And the ability to take all that anxiety and stress and feeling like a failure and having imposter syndrome and then turning around to Wednesday and being able to now work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and go play another game and then have a good game. That's what separates players from being good to great. Because people have talent. Everybody has talent. Even dudes that you like on the third string at certain times, they have talent. It's just about when you mess up, how quickly can you get over that? Sometimes it's one play. Like, I have to get over this in one play. I give up a sack. I have to move on right now. If you get, if you make a bad cut and you know you made a bad cut, it's like, I have to move on from that right now.
Ben Jones
But not just, I mean, Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved.
Benedict Townsend
San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional, professional soccer team.
Taylor Lewan
We need veteran players and we need young players. Like, you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community.
Benedict Townsend
When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chile pouring rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down, I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life.

I know a lot of cops and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Ben Jones
Across the country, cops call this Taser the revolution.
Unknown
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Taylor Lewan
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

Football players and everything, when we go through a lot too, but everybody in life, you go through a lot. So I'm just not trying to, you know, trying to separate football players from anybody else in the world. Everybody go through everything, but I feel like, man, this, just hold your head, keep faith and just keep working and trust and believe in what you do and how you work and everything will work out the way you want it to. Especially, you know, playing football. You know, like I said earlier this year to like, some of my team teammates is, you know, as a little kid, if God told you how to do this and this to get to the NFL, you would do it, no question, to make it to your dream. And then I think sometimes when we get to the NFL, you kind of forget about that kid. That would do Anything playing on rec league field or in your parents or grandparents front yard of making the NFL and being a big star one day, whether you are a star or if you made it, you accomplished something. You know what I'm saying? So being grateful for what this game has done and what God has done in your life and all the people that help you get to this point in life, because there's some people who got a lot worse. Some people who still working their way to accomplish something in life, but you on the NFL team and you made it, and even if you didn't make it long, but you, you got to where you always wanted to be as a kid and so, and, and you, you know, you, you accomplish something in life. And I think sometimes we, we forget that. And one thing I always try to remind myself, it could always be worse because even if I have a bad game or I do something, I just harp on it. Really bad. Like I said, like you say, like everybody's their own worst critic and I'm definitely mine and I beat myself up a lot. But as at some point you just gotta realize, man, I'm blessed to be where I'm at and to have these problems because you know, you know, it's never easy and it's not, it's hard to play in this league. But end of day I'm always gonna be grateful. Grateful for the season, even though it didn't go the way we wanted it to and in the way we wanted it to. But at the end of the day, you know, I got to grow and I got to see a lot that I need to get, get better at. Help me, you know, become a better teammate. And each, each year you, you learn something. I feel like you learned something this year about yourself and what you want to do. And each year I feel like we all, we all learn something. And that's the thing about God. He'll show you what you, you know.
Taylor Lewan
The beautiful thing about you sitting on this podcast and saying that is people are going to be able to hear that and people are going to be able to see that. Like, because people look at 51 or 77 or 22 and they see us on TV and it's polarizing to them, them for you to be able to sit on a microphone and explain what people go through on a day to day basis and how everyone has issues, that's going to resonate with a lot of people.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I just want to, because it's been in my heart for a long time and I just want to speak on that because I see guys in the league and I see guys all over that. You know, I know they, they work hard and I know they try to do everything that they can. It just, it happened to them for them right now. But, you know, you look at guys that struggle but now have came, you know, who gotten over, you know, the, the diversity hump. And it's not, it's not balling and try to tell guys to stay with it. Trust in your work, trust in, you know, everything that you do and everything that happened the way. The way. The way you want it to. And people always have something to say. Everybody has their own, their own opinion. As long as you lock in and focus in, have tunnel vision of what you want to do and what you want to be, it'll happen for you, you know, and, you know, it's hard to avoid what people say, being on the Internet, being on social media, because, I mean, it's everywhere nowadays. But I feel like, you know, as long as you stay locked in mentally, then everything will work out the way you want to. And it's tough sometimes because it can get in your head and it can make you feel some type of way and you start to believe those things, you know, sometimes. But sometimes you gotta, you know, distract yourself extra and, and just focus on your craft and what you need to do. And sometimes, like, like you did, you got off social media because it, because sometimes people, it can, you know, come. Control can be controlling and, and, and let it control you. And you know, social media can be, it can be toxic. I mean, it is toxic at, at times, and a lot of people get caught up in that and you just don't want it to, you know, take over who you are as a person. Don't lose yourself as a person. Just remember, you know, what got you the way you are. And, you know, that's just the way of the world now. But I just wanted to let everybody know in the world and the football world, hold your head, you know, it ain't never as rough as you think it is. It can always be worse, man. Just keep doing what you do. Stay locked in and just keep working, man, no matter what. Nobody say, somebody's always gonna have something to say. They ain't saying that. You ain't doing nothing.
Will Compton
Is there anything you'd want to say to the fantasy owners that you let down this year?
Ben Jones
Oh, I am terribly sorry, man. Hopefully I can be able to showcase a little bit better and give you some more fantasy points. But I think every player in the league we just try to go out there and ball. Sometimes they don't go the way we wanted it to. That don't mean we like, f your fantasy team. It wasn't our day. It wasn't our day.
Will Compton
It's like death, taxes, and a football player being like, I don't give a about your fantasy team. That's every year. You know what I mean? You're seeing a young guy.
Taylor Lewan
Do you?
Ben Jones
People can talk crazy to you now about, you know, people get caught up in that.
Will Compton
Crazy story when he comes on again.
Ben Jones
I'm sure everybody has crazy stories. People talk crazy to me about banging football, especially people talking to your dms about fantasy football, but I just ignore it. But it can get. It can get crazy sometimes. I know our fantasies get with that fantasy football stuff, but at the end of the day, man, we just try to go ball and do the best we can. And if you're a fantasy baller and you balled out this year or you've been doing it at a yearly basis, keep doing your thing.
Will Compton
I know as a gm, I'm a winner this year. Year I took home the gold. I. I take a lot of pride.
Taylor Lewan
I made it to the playoffs.
Ben Jones
They do take a lot of pride. I take a lot of pride in advance of football. For real, though, right?
Taylor Lewan
Should we hit tear talk before we let the king leave? It's five o'.
Ben Jones
Clock. Damn. We talking for a minute.
Will Compton
I know.
Taylor Lewan
We've been talking for a while.
Will Compton
Talk. Derek Henry, stiff arms.
Ben Jones
No, don't do this.
Will Compton
Why not? You got a lot.
Taylor Lewan
I got it. Our tear talk. Tear talk would be like your best stiff arm, your second best step farm, your third best, most iconic stiff arms. We can do a different one if you want. Want to do a different one?
Will Compton
Derek Henry, Steph arms. All right, all right, all right.
Taylor Lewan
I got it.
Will Compton
Before we do tear talk, can we at least get a top three? Like Derrick Henry step farms? I wanted to do. I have my three.
Taylor Lewan
What's your three?
Ben Jones
Wow. Y' all can do it, but I'll just. I'll just.
Will Compton
You don't have your favorite stiff arms that you look back on? Look back on stiff arms. Like, what are your favorites?
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
What was the highest price? One. One.
Ben Jones
No, I didn't. Never really put them out, though. I never really. Because that market kind of. Oh, yeah, yeah. No, but you don't.
Will Compton
You don't, like, look back and be like, I got a top, you know, stiff arm catalog.
Ben Jones
I think when I'm done, I will, because I feel like I still got Some more in me as I'm still playing, but. Right, right. No, no, no, no, no. No disrespect, but no. I'm just waiting to see when I'm done to reflect on it. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
How about this? We'll say our top three, stiff arms. And you use one word to describe how you feel about our top three. All you have to do is say one word, how you feel about Will and I. Stiff arm. Tears.
Ben Jones
No, because I ain't trying to.
Will Compton
One word.
Ben Jones
I ain't trying to embarrass nobody, man. It's been enough. It's been enough. You know what I'm saying? People to talk about it enough. Trying to do that again.
Taylor Lewan
No, no, bro.
Ben Jones
No, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Tear talk here. Talk.
Will Compton
This week, Michigan State, you'd probably go, man, polarizing. It would probably be the Josh Norman one. And the third one is either personally seeing it on tv because I got to see Josh Norman. When that was, I came up off the bench. Holy boys, we gotta go see what just happened. But objectively, watching the Earl Thomas one. And I, I say that too, like I would say this was Josh. Josh is a boy. We were teammates, Bates. That's what like, that's unfortunate. It could have happened to me.
Taylor Lewan
Didn't know. Didn't.
Will Compton
But either Earl Thomas or. Honestly, bro, the one you had last week when you got old boy on the. On the sideline and you kind of like, you know, hey, come on now. You don't have to flex, but you kind of stood up open for a second.
Ben Jones
Watch out.
Will Compton
I understand I just dropped you, son. You don't have to say nothing.
Ben Jones
Don't say nothing.
Will Compton
But those would probably be my tops, my top, stiff arms. You have any?
Taylor Lewan
I don't know if the King wanted this to happen, so I'm kind of.
Ben Jones
He's already done it.
Taylor Lewan
My top three. My number three stiff arm by Derrick Henry would go in the national championship game against Michigan State, which you did to Shalik Calhoun.
Ben Jones
That was. Playoff game.
Taylor Lewan
Playoff game. Sorry, the playoff game. I apologize, sir. You picked up that 270 pound man. Not only did you stiff arm him, you. You spun him in a way that blended. Like 90 degree angle blended him. And he fell to the ground. It was iconic. And it was Michigan State, which was nice for me. Jack Conklin was part of that team. Number two, Earl. Earl Thomas. Because Earl was talking all that the week before. I like Earl. I've never met Earl, but I like Earl quite a bit.
Will Compton
Gotta chop the arm.
Taylor Lewan
Arm, yeah, chop the arm. That's all you Gotta do. We ain't scared him. We're gonna stand up to him. I got 200 on y'.
Ben Jones
All.
Taylor Lewan
Earl, shut up. I would do. And he basically, basically turned him into a blocker for you. And my number one stiff arm. My number one stiff arm play is against the Jacksonville Jaguars. 99 yards. Not one, not two, not three, but possibly four stiff arms for a 99 yard touchdown. That was so hyped too, because we literally called it before. Called that touchdown.
Will Compton
Yeah. Back to the main topic of the situation. Have you changed on the Wendy's burger?
Ben Jones
Wendy's burger. But I said you had gave me a burger. And I said, wendy's burger is way better than that burger. And then we went on to other burgers. But I don't know how it sucked that Wendy's had the best burger.
Will Compton
Wendy's over five guys.
Taylor Lewan
Money to go to five guys and.
Ben Jones
Eat Wendy's over five guys.
Will Compton
That's what you think?
Ben Jones
Wendy's over five guys. I'm gonna say Wendy's over five guys. You know, bro, come on. No, no, no.
Will Compton
Yeah, I know. My back is kind of hurt. Hey, you're lucky.
Taylor Lewan
No, you're welcome. I stop because you're back. You're welcome. Oh, bro.
Will Compton
Everybody know that.
Taylor Lewan
That's adorable. Now listen, Wendy's is a good burger.
Will Compton
I, I, he's got a little thing going.
Ben Jones
Please, please stop with the Wendy's. I never said Wendy's was the best burger. Wendy's over five guys.
Taylor Lewan
And he's like, why keep bringing up the Wendy's burger?
Ben Jones
No, no, no.
Will Compton
We can stop right now.
Taylor Lewan
What's the best burger?
Will Compton
You were in the locker room arguing about Wendy's. I do want that to be said. That's the whole point. That's why I went to Wendy's after practice.
Ben Jones
Yeah, I know. Because I thought you had mentioned something. I said, wendy's burger is better than that burger for sure. And you was like, nah, bro. I said, bro, I'm telling you, Wendy's burger is better than that one. I forgot which which one you mentioned, though. I forgot which which burger spot.
Will Compton
It was five guys.
Ben Jones
No, I don't think it was five guys. It was something else.
Taylor Lewan
What's the best burger?
Will Compton
It's probably dq. If I said dq. I'm definitely just trying to get in the mix and just.
Ben Jones
Yeah, you definitely was.
Will Compton
In the locker room, everybody was kind.
Ben Jones
Of just arguing the best burger. Oh, that's, that's tough. In and out is. Nah, nah, bro.
Taylor Lewan
If somebody lives in Dallas.
Ben Jones
It'S good. But it's not, like, the best. The best burger. Their fries are not it.
Taylor Lewan
We're not talking about fries. Talking about the burger.
Ben Jones
Yeah, but I'm just saying, overall, the burger. Burger is pretty good. But it's not one of the best. No. Okay, so can you give me your list top five?
Taylor Lewan
I think mine might have changed, actually.
Ben Jones
Okay, come on.
Taylor Lewan
Number one would be in and out. Number two. Number two is Carl's Jr.
Ben Jones
I never had that burger before.
Taylor Lewan
And number three, if we're keeping fast, casual in it, which I think there's an argument both ways. Fast casual, meaning there's no fast. Like, there's no drive through where you're.
Will Compton
Going, because it is.
Taylor Lewan
I would. I would probably throw Shake Shack in there.
Ben Jones
Shake Shack is fire.
Will Compton
Honestly, being in Nashville, it's like.
Ben Jones
Like.
Will Compton
My three favorite burgers.
Taylor Lewan
I heard Hugh baby hits, too. I've never had Hugh babies, bro.
Will Compton
Those are my three favorite burgers.
Taylor Lewan
You've had babies.
Ben Jones
Whoa.
Taylor Lewan
Crazy.
Ben Jones
Whoa. You got.
Taylor Lewan
Going on.
Ben Jones
You got. Whoa.
Taylor Lewan
Whoa.
Ben Jones
Hey. Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo. Jack Browns.
Will Compton
Jack Browns is fire, but that's. You go in and dine. You go in and get a T.
Ben Jones
The only thing wrong with Jack Browns is they don't have, like. Like. Like. They don't have, like, lettuce, tomato. It's just burger and cheese or it's like a little bit of sauce. They don't have, like, lettuce, tomato, the cream cheese and jalapeno jelly, lettuce, tomato.
Will Compton
Peanut butter one.
Ben Jones
I just like the regular burger. The regular double cheeseburger. If they had lettuce tomato frank, they would be. It'll be top. Yeah. Water burger.
Will Compton
Your favorite burgers.
Ben Jones
Let's see. Not. Not a top five, but I like. I like Shake Shack, Water burger.
Taylor Lewan
Are we doing two tear talks?
Ben Jones
No, no, no, no. I like Whataburger. I'm trying to think another.
Will Compton
No, no, no. Don't interrupt me.
Ben Jones
I just like.
Taylor Lewan
Whataburger's overrated.
Ben Jones
Just saying, like, fast food spots. This is what we're talking about. Fast food spots.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
Egg Shack, Water Burger.
Will Compton
I don't know, bro. How are you arguing Wendy's and Wendy's ending your list pissed.
Ben Jones
That's why Wendy's kind of. Wendy's kind of fell off.
Will Compton
Okay, now I am trying to figure out what happened in that locker room to make you.
Ben Jones
Yeah, Wendy's fell off, bro. I did not. Why do you. He gonna die on that hill. I did not crown Wendy's. Wendy's tweet video about going to Wendy's. In the drive through and everything. Mayonnaise on the side of his lip with a fresh Coke. Damn. I'm not gonna lie. This Coke is really helping this burger right now. Yeah. I remember all day.
Taylor Lewan
A coca cola.
Ben Jones
Oh, Dr. Pepper.
Will Compton
Which one you had go. You know, I can't. Something about, like, drink soda. I'm watching my diet or some.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
As I continue to inhale.
Taylor Lewan
That's so funny.
Will Compton
I was like, you take your ass to five guys.
Taylor Lewan
Five guys.
Ben Jones
Five guys is good.
Taylor Lewan
Five guys. I, I.
Ben Jones
It's just a lot of grease.
Taylor Lewan
I can't handle the responsibility of five guys.
Ben Jones
It's a lot of grease. A lot, A lot of grease.
Will Compton
Like, you might pay for it. You know what I mean? You do pay for it.
Ben Jones
Do pay for it.
Will Compton
Paying for it. But it is a. A good ride.
Ben Jones
Hold on. I'm gonna ask y' all this, and I'm. And I'm done. Zaxby's or raising Canes?
Will Compton
Canes.
Taylor Lewan
Canes.
Ben Jones
Whoa, whoa. Canes.
Taylor Lewan
No Questions over Zaxby's. 10 out of 10.
Ben Jones
What?
Will Compton
Beat his ass, Derek.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, what you think about Bojangles?
Ben Jones
Tell me what makes. What makes Zaxby's better than Raising Kane?
Will Compton
The menu. Raising Kane's menu is just. I will say, Derek, you are elite with your facial reactions. That's how you got everybody stirred up in the locker room.
Ben Jones
I did. Yeah. That's true. That's true.
Will Compton
Anytime somebody says something in the locker room, Derek. That reaction right there, he just got the. The most expression.
Ben Jones
Okay, okay, okay. So they do.
Will Compton
See how people get pulled.
Ben Jones
Has a better variety than. Than the raising canes. But as far as the food. So you said to stand the food better or the menus better?
Will Compton
Well, like, Haynes doesn't even have wings, so Zaxby's wings are trash. They're better than canes.
Ben Jones
They don't have them.
Will Compton
They don't have wings.
Ben Jones
Their chicken tenders are better than both their wings. And that's my point, though. Chicken tenders are better than both their wings. And chicken tenders, whatever. Whatever they call them, Canes did also.
Will Compton
Kind of copy Zach sauce.
Ben Jones
Cane sauce is way better than Zach's.
Taylor Lewan
Zach's cheese copied Canes.
Will Compton
No, his actually was around first.
Taylor Lewan
No, it was not around first. Jack Canes was a was. Listen, JP Cage was made by a guy that went to lsu, and he named the name this thing after his dog.
Ben Jones
Wasn't like a project.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. As a class project. He had a D on, and they said, that'll never work. And he was like, all Right, Cool. Dropped out of college and made raising canes with the guy. Guy who ended up branching off and making Zaxby's. Look it up, dude.
Ben Jones
Really?
Will Compton
Oh, wow.
Ben Jones
Whoa. Whoa.
Taylor Lewan
I hope that's right, bro.
Will Compton
I don't know about that.
Taylor Lewan
That's right.
Will Compton
I was like, oh, my God. The other way around.
Ben Jones
You made. You made it sound believable, too. I'm like, whoa, we need to drop the mic after that one.
Will Compton
I think it was first.
Ben Jones
Wow.
Taylor Lewan
No, it wasn't.
Ben Jones
Wow. Six years.
Will Compton
Oh, my. Everything.
Taylor Lewan
I just. So good, though.
Will Compton
Look at you up there.
Taylor Lewan
This is what the Internet does, boys. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.
Will Compton
Flavorless copycat chicken. Hey, remember. Hey, hey. Remember back in the day when we were talking about burgers and I was like, taylor's a storyteller. He's a great storyteller. Elite.
Ben Jones
Listen, listen, everybody. No, we're talking about this fast food and all this greasy food, but me and Taylor, we eat pretty. Pretty healthy. I'm not. I don't know about Will, but. But we eat pretty healthy and. No, no, no. I'm just. I just wanted to say, guys, I've changed my diet this past year, and it's. It's been remarkable, and it showed.
Taylor Lewan
Buddy, you look fantastic.
Ben Jones
It helped a lot. It's my first time, actually. Really, like, being strict with it. And all I drunk all year was straight water, and I'm still doing it.
Taylor Lewan
He came up to me during camp, and he's like, what do you. What do you drink? I was like, I. I just drink water. He's like, juice? No, I don't do any juice or nothing. Like, what? Two days later, he's like, all I drink is water. He hated it.
Ben Jones
All I drink is water, bro. I don't drink anything else. So I come in the locker room, I'm like, taylor, so, like, your diet, what is. What does it consist of? And then as far as the season, how long do you do it? And then whenever the season's over with, do you give your time to, like, give yourself time to have a cheat meal or something like that? He was like, bro. He's like, yeah, after the season, I might have a cheat meal here and there, but. But, like, once I get, like, locked back in, I'm back in. I'm. I'm all. You know, I'm eating healthy and everything else. I don't really cheat much. But if I do. Hold on. Rise of the season. But he said, but during the season where I'm locked in, I don't really eat anything. I have my meals and just and that. So I'm like, okay. I'm like, okay, cool.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, no. I'm about to get God.
Ben Jones
So.
Taylor Lewan
So.
Will Compton
So when he was talking, I was like, so I'll play.
Ben Jones
So we have. So they have like, we. We just do a little meals o line dinner on Thursdays.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Ben Jones
And they were having a fantasy draft night. And oh, bro. I walk in. I walk in Taylor's house, you know, go to the little man area's man cave is chill area. Everybody's sitting there. I'm like, dang. Something smell like some fried chicken in here or something with some hot sauce, barbecue sauce, lemon pepper. Everything going on. Smell going crazy in there. So I'm like, okay. I'm like, tell who these wings. He's like, oh, I got it for the boys. Yeah, I got some boys. He's like, man, I already ate. I'm full. You know, blase, blase.
Taylor Lewan
It's true. He's about to tell a lie.
Ben Jones
So we get about 15, 20 minutes in. I'm like, I'm like, oh, man, everybody eating. I mean, Ben killing them. Nate, they killing them and everything.
Taylor Lewan
Just breathing, bro. They're just breathing.
Ben Jones
I'm like, man, I got. I'm like, I'm finna slide. I'm about to slip up. I'm about to sleep with my die and travel on these wings. And guess who's eating wings, mister. I'm like, taylor, what's this? I thought we was all locked in. He's like. He was like, no, I just had one wing, this and that. Then I leave. Then I hear it. Then turned to one, turn to two, turned to three, turned to four. I'm like, what? After that I was like, you know, I'm on my own for now.
Taylor Lewan
Rhode is on all accounts.
Ben Jones
I'm on my own.
Taylor Lewan
No, Derek shows up, up. I'm going tell my side. Now Derek shows up. We have the fantasy draft. I get the wings for the boys. Strikeout wings for those of you who haven't had strikeout. Best wings in Nashville. No free shout outs they get. I get all that. I got this for the boys. I made sure to eat before you asked me, are you eating these? What are you doing, man? Eating these wings? I said, no, I'm not going to eat the wings. I'm going to. I'm hanging out. I'm just going to do the draft and they're going to go home. Derek, the first pick in the draft happens. It wasn't there. Derek. Derek gets up and Goes, all right, man, I'm a slide.
Ben Jones
That is not what happened. I was there for a while. I was there for a while.
Taylor Lewan
I took Derek.
Ben Jones
That is a lie.
Taylor Lewan
Derek leaves. Hours go by. The boys are still chilling. I get up and yes, I had two wings. That's it. No, I. I let you talk. I get back to the locker room, and sure enough, I. It. The first person I see in there that day is. Is. Is Derek. And he's like, what'd you eat yesterday? I was like, oh, I had the meal like I said I did. He's like, you didn't have any wings? I was like, no, I didn't have. I didn't have any wings. That's weird, because. That's weird because Ben and Nate.
Ben Jones
Okay, so then that.
Taylor Lewan
Two wings. So did you have two wings? I was like, yes, I had two wings. Derek. I had two wings. I'm sorry. And he goes, I'm by myself now. That's it. I have to. I thought you were about it.
Ben Jones
So, dude, who. So you believe. Because I asked him about the wings, and he told me he didn't, so I had to find out from Ben.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
Exactly. It seems like the story, the results all the same, right?
Taylor Lewan
I had two wings.
Will Compton
It seemed like when he asked.
Taylor Lewan
And you're like, they were fired. They were fire.
Ben Jones
Hey, look, you never fire. You think he only had two?
Taylor Lewan
There were two left.
Ben Jones
No longer two left. Nah, my boy. You said. How you talk about him. No, he had more than two.
Will Compton
Before you leave, are you going to.
Taylor Lewan
Vegas with the boys? Boys?
Ben Jones
Think I'm going to Vegas with the boys.
Taylor Lewan
I cannot wait. It's gonna be enough time.
Ben Jones
Just leave me one. Leave me one. There you go. Just leave me one. That's it.
Will Compton
Hey, also, one question before we leave.
Taylor Lewan
If it's not this spring, what about getting with Derek and going to Tuscaloosa for a spring tour? Maybe not this spring or next, but someday.
Ben Jones
Yeah, we can do it. Yeah, we definitely can do it. I'm down.
Taylor Lewan
You got you down to go Tescal.
Ben Jones
So, yeah, I haven't been in a while, so I'm definitely go. Just let me know.
Will Compton
Spring, maybe.
Ben Jones
Yeah.
Will Compton
Threw me for a loop out there.
Ben Jones
Yeah, just let me know. I'll definitely. I'm down.
Taylor Lewan
Down, boys.
Will Compton
He said yes because Thanksgiving, it didn't seem like he was feeling it as much.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, because we did bring up Thanksgiving. I don't know.
Will Compton
I was like, oh, Jax, he's asking something. We've already kind of talked about it, but I really.
Taylor Lewan
Because. But Derek seemed like he didn't want to do it because he was like. He said, I haven't been there in a while. I don't know how to be received. And that's just me thinking. That's just me seeing a dude not understanding his legacy. Like, he's gonna go there. People are gonna be like.
Ben Jones
Probably because it was like, still the season. I didn't. I was like, man, I don't know what's going to happen. But now, yeah, I'm down. I haven't been in a while. I love to go back.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go, boys. This March or April, we will be in Tuscaloosa.
Ben Jones
It would definitely be lit if, like, we went during the season. It was like a by week. That would be. It would be crazy if y' all was able to.
Taylor Lewan
We could set that up.
Ben Jones
But I'm just saying, like, during. Imagine like during the season. And I got to go. And it was a bye week.
Will Compton
You guys sell out, huh? Stadiums.
Ben Jones
Wait, what? This man here. Funny man.
Will Compton
Hey, for real. Appreciate you coming on, man.
