But I heard the doctor say, oh, someone's waking up. But not for long. Then I was back out. It was a weird experience. Luckily, no pain, though. So those. You remember the George Kittle episode? We talked about the. The scary people waking up in the middle of surgery, but they're paralyzed, they can't move. And the stat was like one out of a thousand, which is insane. Pretty insane that it actually happens.

Not like a high percentage, but one that's like. You pause.

Yeah.

You think one in a million.

You think one in multiple millions, to be honest.

I'm thinking, like, this has happened three times in the history of the world.

And it's just the fact that people wake up during that. Like, anytime any of us go to through anesthesia, hopefully we don't. We never have to go through that.

We know that. Ouch. You heart Dave. Ouchy heart Dave. My father, he had open heart surgery just a few weeks ago. He's doing great. Don't worry. He's fine. Because his. Dave.

But I wanted to make sure. Ouch. You heard Dave was okay, but ouch, you heard Dave. He had surgery. He goes in. I'm his point. I'm his point of contact. Horrible person. I was point of contact, but the nurses are calling me all day and they're like, hey, he's doing great. Blah, blah. You're gonna come see him. I go see Dave. 11pm that night they call me, say, hey, got something going on. Some blood just kind of matriculating out. Out of his heart, not in the right spots. We're gonna go back in for surgery. And I hit him with like, hey, how should we be? Like concerned. Like really concerned. She's like, I put it at a 3 out of 10. I was like, is this like cuz I'm the son or is this a real three? She says it's a real three. Long story short, Dave's completely fine. But Dave told me after the surgery and everything, his first text was, dude, I felt everything he said. He, he remembers being put on like, they're like, 1, 2, 3, slam his ass on the table. And they started going. He's like, dude, I legit felt stuff. And then eventually I felt like I fell back asleep. But how nuts is that? How crazy is that anyways?

No, I don't know. They have like a, like with open heart questions. You got like a. You got a breathing tube. You got a breathing tube in the whole thing. I showed you the photo.

I showed that dude literally because of anesthesia. So if you're watching on YouTube, you saw the position. We'll just make you make it one more time.

Go back to see. Yeah, can I leave the room? Like, he's fine, he's fine. And they kind of leave and I'm like, I start to walk out the room and I hit him with the. I hit my dad with a little selfie just because I knew he wouldn't remember. And so he's like, did you come and see me? Yes, Dave, I came and saw. He's asked me more.

Then Logan Paul challenging any. Every NFL guy to a fight, which I thought was all to just bring attention to this flight football game that was going to take place. I just thought it was like Tom Brady had a team, Logan Paul had a team. Like they were just going to play flag football. Yeah. With a lot of these big name guys that got paid to go and play a flag football game. Yeah. So whenever I turned it on and I saw Team USA was out there, I'm wondering which, like Tom, like who's on Team usa? And then I just see it's these elite bastards that have been just talking all the noise in the world, like playing their game, being the best flag football team in the world.

Go up against the retired NFL players, current NFL players, some influencers. I see that the influencers and NFL players, they had split. They had two teams and then there was Team usa, the flag football team team. And they kind of just did like a round robin. It was fun to watch the flag football team. Team USA dummied. The NFL guys like it wasn't even close. Now obviously, you know, you think about playing flag football, you're sitting there learning about the game a little bit like schematically the rules, everything else. Like, clearly the NFL guys have no clue what's going on. They're kind of trying to figure it out a few days before.

They only get a certain amount of downs to get to where it's like, it's. You only get like, like four downs to get to the goal line, half field.

Oh, like that killed. Well, yeah, if you're talking about being elusive. I mean, did see Tom Brady hit him with a little. He got over the left a little bit one time. Got a guy who was running a little, didn't set his feet, went off the diving board a little bit on his tackle. But you're not. That's not the quarterback you want in a fly football game. From what it sounds like, you need.

But it was fun to watch Tom Brady. Like, Tom Brady still, like, when he's talking on Shaq's podcast, saying, like, I go out there right now and still dominate. Like, you can see Tom Brady still as juice. It was fun watching Joe burrow obj, vintage OBJ out there grabbing a one hand. I did see that DeAndre Hopkins in the end zone. Somebody kind of like, moves old buddy little boys him and then catches it with one arm. It was just seeing Luke Keakley get out there and run around. He was a liability.

That clip is insane. Yeah. Luke Keakley, that was. That was the hardest thing for me to see on the bird.

Yeah, but this Team USA, like the Olympics are coming for flag football in 2028. And I'm thinking Team USA, this, this group, this squad needs to be who's representing the USA and whoever they deem fit, whether it's a current or ex NFL player that they think can be on their team. To me, it's like that's Team USA's call because there are like some. You get a couple receivers again, it's like OBJ DeAndre Hopkins. But if Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, like they could. They're more than capable of being on Team usa. But to me, it's like the decision making needs to come from this Team USA squad because they are nice decision making.

They're some legit athletes and like a lot of them played college ball somewhere

And one morning I got there was like six in the morning and they're trying to impregnate this one, you know, chick cow. And they brought this bull in and they just. They trapped the. They like trapped the girl one. And then the bull, they're trying to get them all horned up and ready to go. And old boy just gets up and I'm sitting there, I'm young too. I'm just like, what the is going on? And they, they get it up like he's about to rip out. Get on in there. And then they go in there and they slide this little condom.

Yeah, a little flashlight on. Pop. Pop. He's done. He's already done within seconds. Yeah, pop it on, take it out. And that's how they get the. That's how they got the sperm, bro.

And I'm like, yo, that's the most craziest thing.

Have you not seen the way they impregnate the cows that will horses after, from what I've seen, bro. So all the things you said. We, we. I grew up on like a small boarding ranch, but a couple ranches down, they would do like, you know, the studs and all the things they would Bring the girl out, put her in a round pen, and they would take the stud out. The horse's name was Gangster Chick, by the way. Badass horse, reigning horse. He'd walk out, he'd start to get horned up. Start slapping that thing against his belly. Then you bring him up to, like, this pad. It's like a fake horse. And then you bring the girl over, and he hops on the thing. You put the fleshlight on. He does his business in two seconds. But to get the girl pregnant, you put this glove on that's, like, up to your shoulder, and you go inside, and then you take, like, a little tube and you put it in there and, like, goes through, like, this layer. Correct. And then you. And then you syringe. You put it in there.

Yeah, yeah. What. What made you want to start a jerky company?

[Cam Jurgens]

I mean, it all started in college with Nil. I mean, and I started my last year of college. I'm thinking name, image, likeness. Nebraska gave us. Like, they want to make logos for us. And they. They asked, like, what I wanted for a logo, whatnot. And I'm like, well, everybody calls me Beef Jerky, so do, like, a bowl. Beef Jerky. And then I ended up starting to make T shirts because I'm thinking, like, Nil, you need to make, like, a product, build a brand, a business, and sell something. But I was so wrong, because these kids just get paid to play. And I'm like. So I built a business. So it was pretty cool.

[Tara Lawan]

That's awesome.

[Cam Jurgens]

And so I've been growing it ever

[Will Compton]

since the long game game, though.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah, it's a long game.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

You're playing the long game, but, yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

Then started making jerky with a local locker in town, and then ended up switching to a place out in Pennsylvania, Stony Point. And, I mean, it's the best jerky I've ever had. It's incredible. I need to. Didn't come in in time. I need to ship some out here, guys.

[Will Compton]

I was almost thinking you were gonna come in with a box.

[Tara Lawan]

I thought he'd have gifts as well.

[Will Compton]

I thought. I was expecting that. I was just Yeah, I was kind of expecting.

[Cam Jurgens]

I've been busy. I'm sorry.

[Tara Lawan]

Busy man.

[Will Compton]

So did you get. Did you get paid your senior year?

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah.

[Tara Lawan]

How much?

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah, Polly, like, I thought I was the richest man on earth. I think I got like 30 grand. I was insane. Yeah, I was just telling these guys, like, the. It was so different my last year of college because, like, I didn't need to pre game and then go to the bars because I could afford buying beers at the bar. It was huge change.

[Will Compton]

Huge.

[Cam Jurgens]

Huge. And now these guys are just getting Land Rovers and, like, hunting hundreds or millions. Yeah, bro. I was there at the wrong time.

[Tara Lawan]

No doubt.

[Will Compton]

What was your scholarship check? Your, like, freshman through junior stipend?

[Tara Lawan]

I don't know.

[Cam Jurgens]

It's probably like 1200.

[Will Compton]

That's pretty. That was up from like, I was 850.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

But you can make that go, like, as a college.

[Cam Jurgens]

Well, Nebraska's cheap.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

So that was a lot. I already thought I was living it.

[Will Compton]

Yeah. Especially you keep costs low and you got a few hundred or several hundred dollars left over.

[Tara Lawan]

You feel like you're leftover is a crazy comment.

[Will Compton]

Like you're like, you're coming up, up, but then you get 30 grand. Like, you feel like you're operating in a whole different world. Now. These kids are getting millions. Millions of dollars.

[Tara Lawan]

Millions and millions of dollars.

[Will Compton]

Like, backups are getting six figures. Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

Like, out of high school. I don't. Yeah. I don't understand it.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah. We would do. We would get 1250amonth for our rent checks. And I think 500 went to rent immediately. So I had that, like, whatever, 750 left. And I think after the first weekend, I was like, oh, I got to make this 200 last the rest of the month. Month. Never had new clothes.

[Will Compton]

Never.

[Tara Lawan]

I was like, that weekend, Rick's. All those bars just going out. That's when you thought, like, that first weekend of the month. You feel like you're the man. And then you're back to poverty in a big way, itching for that Scully check, aging for the scholar check. Hits when it hits. Yeah, but this Nil thing, I couldn't imagine myself, my. My brain, 18 years old, making even $30,000. I. That would just. Did you see a lot of kids, like freshmen coming in, making a lot of money and just being like, they're wild about it?

[Cam Jurgens]

No, I mean, it was just that one year. So, like, hardly anybody was making money.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

Like, it was just deals. I remember I had to deal with this, like, farm equipment. Place in Nebraska. They sent me a box of, like, T shirts and hats, and I got a hundred dollars for Instagram posts. This is sick.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

I was handing out koozies.

[Tara Lawan]

That's awesome, because then you.

[Will Compton]

You. You. You envy the kids who got the. The Pell Grant they get that semester. Like, man, they have $5,000.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

Remember one year I got $1800 and I was like, both semesters.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

It was a game changer.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah. Did you ever work a summer job? Like, I. I ripped Sid Dylan every summer.

[Cam Jurgens]

[Will Compton]

Yeah, with Tim Peeper.

[Cam Jurgens]

No, I did not.

[Will Compton]

Yeah, you got to get the summer jobs, bro. You were sleeping.

[Cam Jurgens]

I was trying to get a job.

[Tara Lawan]

Sleep at the wheels at a golf

[Cam Jurgens]

course in town just to get some free golf, but I was just golfing too much to do it.

[Tara Lawan]

What was it like for you, being a tight end and going to Nebraska and being asked to play at center?

[Cam Jurgens]

That was weird. It was. It was weird because I first get to. I mean, in college or high school. My last year ended up breaking my leg and dislocated my ankle. So I was on crutches for, like, four months. And so I was probably, like, 230, 240. But then when I got to Nebraska, I was like, 270, because I was just like. I ballooned up in a few months. And then I get there and go through out, like, summer, spring ball and everything, like, trying to get ready for the season. Everything's tied in. And then I think, like, the week before the first game, Frost sat me down, and he was like, hey, what does it mean to play for Nebraska for you? I'm like, oh, I'm moving the D line or something. And then he's like, hang on.

[Will Compton]

Did you have a rough training mini camp? No, dude, I was.

[Cam Jurgens]

I was balling, you know, like, really? I mean, I wasn't catching mini balls, though. Like, I was just blocking dudes. And. Yeah, he just. He's like, we want you at the center next year. What do you think about that? I'm like, I'm gonna have to get back to you on that thinking, like, all right, maybe I just need to get faster. I think two weeks later, I was like, dropped 20 pounds just like that. I'm like, maybe I just need to get a little faster. Maybe I'm not fast enough.

[Will Compton]

And you took that combo to heart. You're like, okay, I gotta. I gotta trim some weight. I gotta Prove to them that, no, I don't need to go to center.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah. And then, like, week four, I came in, in the morning. They're like, hey, you're in the O line room for meetings this morning. I'm like, all right, I guess.

[Tara Lawan]

Oh.

[Cam Jurgens]

And I just went in, like, and just locked in and did everything I could, like, trying to learn how to be an O lineman. And long process. I mean, it's just so different than everything.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

So it was a lot of bumps in the road, getting there and transition. Started doing O line. But then I was still, like, traveling as a tight end that first year. So I practiced with, like, scout team online. They'd have me at center, and, like, I couldn't snap a ball, so I would just have, like, a foam ball, just snapping it and just learning how to do all that. And then I think I broke my. My foot, like, midway through the year. So now I was out the rest of the season. And so, like, I was just lifting and drinking protein just every day, all day, every day. I think I gained, like, 40 pounds in two months. Just right back up. Got up, like, 270. And then I was just moving, you know, and then getting ready for, like, summer ball, trying to learn how to be an old lineman. Like, dude, I couldn't get my second foot. Foot down to, like, save my life, you know? Like, I was just like, like, long strides everywhere I was going. So tough to, like, pick that up, especially at center. And then get to, like, summer, right before fall camp. I break my other foot, dog.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

And then end up, like, redoing another one. So, like, I didn't really practice at all, like, at center. Like, I was just on the sideline learning. I might have had, like, less than 10 healthy practices at center trying to learn. And then I started the first game of the year, like, with hardly any practice or, like, knowing what I'm doing. And I think we were playing Southern Alabama, and I'm still learning everything. Like, I got no idea what it's going on. They're just throwing me into the fire. I'm learning as I go.

[Will Compton]

You're just finishing through the whistle?

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah, I'm just playing hard. Yeah. I'm just doing everything I can that I know how to do. And I remember we'd go out there and, like, we're practicing against, like, a four, three, just, like, normal stuff. And we go out there. I didn't know at the time, but they came out in a 3, 3, 5 stack. And I go to the sideline. Oh, line coach like, yo, what. What are they in out there? What are you seeing? I'm like, I don't know, dude.

[Will Compton]

Dude.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah, that's got to be was. So when they're like, hey, you're in the O line room, like, you just walk into the building and they're, hey, by the way, no, no, you start to walk to the tight end. Like, no, no, you're gonna go this way. Now, mentally, for you, how was that? Because I know there's a lot of kids that have had to go switch, and they probably had a difficult time, like, mentally getting over that hurdle of, this is the type of athlete I am. And then when somebody has to tell you, no, you're actually this type of athlete, it might not be what you want. Did it take you a moment? Because you. You already. You're already like, your personality is team first type of guy. You can just tell you're like an old line cat. But was there a moment for you? You're like, man, this place, dude, for,

[Cam Jurgens]

like, one day until 24 hours. Yeah, it was quick.

[Tara Lawan]

Quick.

[Cam Jurgens]

And then I went out and practiced, and, like, all I did was just hit people every. Every snap. Like, I just go out, hit somebody. I'm like. Went through a whole practice get done. I'm like, man, I. I realized I hated running, like, 20, 30 yards downfield for them, not throw me the ball. I get to hit somebody every play, and I don't have to, like, do some dumb and run down the field for them, not throw it to me. So. So, yeah, I'm like, this is for me. Yeah, it was quick.

[Will Compton]

And since you got to essentially start in week one, only having, like, less than 10 healthy practices, like, how quick was it for you to realize, like, oh, I can be good at this position?

[Cam Jurgens]

Dude, it took. It took like a year or two. And just learning how to snap the ball, like, it takes a while, you know, you just need a lot of repetitions. And I feel like everybody in the state of Nebraska probably hated me for a couple years. Dude, just. I write high right? Big snaps and, you know, there was just a lot of hurdles, like, get through and, like, learn everything. But, yeah, it's just, you know, the game's so fast when you learn a new position and. And you're going from high school to college, and then, you know, once you get better, everything just slows down. But yeah, like, my last couple years there, like, I, you know, I realized this is the right decision for me. You know, I'm gonna be able to go to the league and Play and, you know, not many people want to have a tight end like, like six three, you know.

[Tara Lawan]

When did you know?

[Cam Jurgens]

You're like, oh, damn, that's a crazy phone.

[Tara Lawan]

Look kind of nice there.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah.

Would run the F. He would run in a whole bunch of different positions. He was a big motion guy for you. Yeah, it was awesome. Some of 44. And you rock five one, too.

[Will Compton]

When did you know that you had a potential to go to the league? Like, I'm sure that even that moment of realizing, like, oh, coaches are kind of telling me X, Y and Z or damn, I didn't realize, like, I could go to the league being a center dude.

[Cam Jurgens]

Probably my last year there, like, I, you know, like, I just go throughout, like, not knowing, like, growing up in Nebraska, all I want to do was just be a Corn Husker and play. And so, like, I'm like, that's my pinnacle. And so, like, I'm like, I already. I already hit my pinnacle, you know? Like, I was even thinking about the NFL. I didn't watch the NFL growing up. Besides, like, I was a huge fan of sue. And so, like, when he went to the Lions, like, I would watch the Lions.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

So, like, it was. It was just Nebraska ball. So, like, I watched you growing up and, like, all that, like, that was a good defense back in the day, obviously.

[Tara Lawan]

Hey, how'd that feel? Really?

[Will Compton]

It feels good. But it fires me up hearing, like, he grew up Nebraska and his whole. Because, again, like, the walk on program's the best. Like, all this stuff, like, when you get around. Because I grew up in Missouri, but when you're on the team and I was there for five years and you kind of witness, whether it's the walk on kids who earn scholarships or just dudes that grew up there, you just. You learn how it's just such a different. They're a different breed. When it comes to thinking of Nebraska. It's like we were having. We were having an argument.

[Tara Lawan]

Actually plays so well into his argument, too.

[Will Compton]

About, like, I'm saying, my clean take for Kevin Satcher Food, shout out Kevin Satchel Foods. But my clean take was Nebraska. As far as a school, a fan base that supports their school. There's no better fan Base in the country because there's no. There's no fair weather kids. There's no kids that, like, oh, if you lose, it kind of doesn't ruin their week or whatever. Like, everybody in the state of Nebraska, it's all Nebraska because there's no other competing teams.

[Cam Jurgens]

I mean, and you just. You.

[Will Compton]

You, like, embody that because you're, like, thinking in your head. The peak for me in my life growing up in Nebraska is playing for the Cornhuskers. Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

And if you think about, like, the stadium there, Memorial Stadium, it's the third largest town, city in. On game day. Like, that's it. You know, Lincoln, Omaha, and then Memorial Stadium on game day. So it's. It's crazy. I mean, you just grow up, like, just being a Husker, you know, Everybody's a Husker there, you know, and you just hate. You know, you hate Texas, you hate Oklahoma, Iowa now. Like, it's just kind of how you grow up.

[Tara Lawan]

If a kid sitting in front of you right now is going through the same exact situation, what is, like, the hardest thing in your brain to figure out as a center? Is it the overall, like, seeing safeties, seeing linebackers, or is it truly footwork?

I think early on, it's footwork. You know, if you don't play O line, you know, you. Those short steps, choppy. Like, I was just. I always wanted to run, you Know, tight end or whatever. I played linebacker in high school. And like, everything's just long and then O line, everything's just short, abbreviated. And you need to be, you know, proper footwork or technique. And then, you know that. That's like the biggest change, you know, trying to get yourself in the right spot. And I feel like I was just always out of balance, but, like, playing hard.

How'd that first gaming at South Alabama go?

Dude, I think end of the third quarter, full body cramps. It was hot. It was hot. I was locking up.

You know, he was part of some just rugged years, man. Like you were with Frost, where it's like when Frost came in, it was like Mike Riley, he. He kind of took the program down south. Did you think about that when Scott came to the squad and you're like, all right, we're going to get this thing turned around. You had. You were on teams that were solid teams. And what are the things you think about when looking at your era, playing Nebraska, playing with Nebraska, not like making bowl games and just being in those, Those drought years?

I mean. Yeah, I still love my experience, you know, playing for Nebraska, being a corner, sure, that was great. But, yeah, like, coming in, I thought. I thought Frost was about to be

the Messiah, you know, everybody did.

Everybody did. And then it just didn't pan out. You know, nothing. Nothing worked. You know, we. We lost close games and we found ways to lose more close games, and it was just like a constant deal of doing that. And yeah, never made a bowl game that was tough. And then go to the league and super bowl first year and win it third.

Yeah.

You know, it's just crazy.

Yeah. Finding all those that. We were kind of joking about it before we started the pod, but when I had to just spins on myself and we are the greatest three win team of all time. Like, that year, it felt like every game you guys fucking lost was within reach. It was all single digits. Where there's fucking. We hit the onside Kick over in international soil in Ireland.

Against Northwestern Ohio State. You got them. Just couldn't do it it dude.

And it's like one of those game or that that season is a season that's bled into what it's been six years since then, five years since then. And even this year we're flying back from the Red river rivalry and we're watching Nebraska versus Maryland and Nebraska actually came back on a two minute drill and won the game because you're was Emma Johnson.

He had a big run and Will's like losing his mind on the plane. We're like losing service as we're like about to land. Like for so long we've been a team that figures out. Figures out ways to these games up and this is like the hurdle, the next possible hurdle for Nebraska.

Are you. So we talked about a little bit. He clearly like the most like He's a top 5% fan. Like he's the guy who's got the corn in the face. How in the weeds are you in it now being in the league? Like do you watch every game still? Do you try to catch every game? Do you keep up with the roster?

Yeah, I try to watch everything. I mean it's hard to keep up with everyone just because I mean it's a revolving door. I mean I come back like my first year and knew most of the people come back second year. It's like, dude, I know no one here.

I feel like it's, it's obviously the world now with Nil. But even like when I got done, you had your four years that I would come back and kind of know some guys because the whole team's kind of staying together. You know the freshman that's now a senior and kind of keep tabs on guys. Oh yeah. I remember him being in the locker room and he blows up to be a stud, whatever the case may be. But now with Nil just hearing the two year turnaround, like I'm sure it's way different every time you go back. Yeah. Now it's. Do you, do you. Is there any. Are there guys that are still on the team?

I'm sure some Nebraska boys that I played with.

Time really does fly. And it sucks, too, because I remember, like, the first couple years going back to Ann Arbor and being able to see, like, my boys, and they'd be like, you know, another year in the program, we get to check in with them. But with the nil, the way there's so much turnover, it had to kind of suck being, like, the year two. Like, oh, I know. Nobody here. It's all a bunch of different guys.

And now he goes back into completely different facilities.

Well, organ's the middle of doing a $500 million renovation right now.

Yeah. Because they've. They under. You know, some people are like, okay, this game's going to be pouring money in the nil. We were already developing and starting the structure of the new building, so all the money had to go into building the new facilities, which kind of hurt

How much of a shock for you? Because I don't know the Eagles, how their facilities really are. I thought your practice fields were nice, but when I went from Michigan, who, like, had great facilities at the time, to the Tennessee Titans, it was like, I walk in, I'm like, this feels like juco as far as, like, facilities go. Did you have the same shock value when you were sure?

[Cam Jurgens]

I'm like, whoa, this is. This is the only cold tub we have. Crazy. And they're like, how big is your. We have one that we Bring in the summer. And we just, you know, it's just outside, I'm like, okay.

[Tara Lawan]

Just tubs, just like plastic, like, tractor supply tubs everywhere. It's nuts, dude, to see the difference in, like, NFL versus college and like, how, like, the courting process goes or anything. Like, once they pick you, like, you're here, like, you can't go anywhere.

So the facilities just aren't what they were.

How sick was it getting drafted in the third round? Just seeing your name get called, go across the bottom of the ticker as a Nebraska boy growing up. Just want to play for Nebraska. Third round, wasn't it?

Growing up, I never thought I was going to go to the NFL and, like, being in the position and just, you know, just seeing how much I've been able to do, you know, not just for me, but, like, like my family, you know, like, all the experiences, you know, my parents get to fly to all these games and see all these stadiums and everything that, you know, they get to experience because of me. Like, it's. It's been a crazy, wild ride, you know, getting to play a sport for a job, it's just, you know, it's a dream come true.

When did you find out that Jason Kelsey was a person that was like, this is the guy that needs to replace me when I retire?

[Cam Jurgens]

I mean, I did. I did a top 30 visit there and I, you know, I met with him in the Olympics. Coach and like, everybody in the building. But yeah, I met him pretty early on and just, you know, I had a great bond with him. I mean, he's just. He's a man there and just getting to learn from him and experience, like, how everything operates and, you know, he's been there forever and so getting to take over that role and then like, in the first year, getting to take over the center role, we win a Super bowl and we rushed for 2,000 yards and, like, have an unreal season. Like, it's just. Yeah, it's crazy. And then, like, like the year before, like, speaking of, like, changing positions, like, I. They put me at guard. I was playing right guard for a year the year before I got to center. And so just constantly just trying new things and just whatever for the team. And, you know, so it's just been. It's been an awesome ride with the Eagles.

[Tara Lawan]

And you know, I, I love it there. It's like they say about, like, every organization is different, but the Eagles really run their organization right? You know, good ownership, everything from the top down, it's just, just, it's done right. And, you know, that's all I know so far. So then when guys come from other teams and then come in, they're like, man, it's different, you know, and so it's cool hearing that.

Like everywhere around there, it's just Eagles. And it's just, it's weird because not that many, like, professional, like, sports towns are so like, it feels like a small town vibe where like, you know your high school teams going to the state playoffs and the whole team or the whole town like shuts down and goes there. It's like, that's that. But it's like Philly with millions of people. You know, it's like the Flyers, the Sixers, you know, all the sports teams there, there, they love every single one. And it's just, it's nuts. You know, the, the buy in and you know, my first year there, I remember I went to. I went to a World Series game when, when they made it. And I'm at the game, I'm sitting next to some people and like, I'm talking to them and you know, they're from Philly, they're huge fans. And like, yeah, we had to take on another mortgage of the house just to buy these tickets. And you know, like, never miss a Super Bowl. I'm like, that's how they are. You know, they will go bankrupt just to get to a game.

You know, that is nuts.

Yeah, like, they love you so passionately and they'll also come for the jugular when things aren't going right.

How Hard is it not to listen to that noise? Because there. I mean, there's clips all the times of you guys run into halftime, and it's not going the way the fans want, so they're booing the team as you come in. You, like, just attribute that to be like, yeah, they're insane. And they. They love their fan base that much. But, like, if you go from being from Nebraska, don't know what town you grew up in, but you go to Lincoln, that's probably a little bit of a culture shock to you, all those people. And then you're going to a major city that is obsessed with the fan base. Like, how hard was that for you from a mental standpoint to ignore all that noise?

[Cam Jurgens]

Dude, Very tough. I mean, it's just. It's hard not to hear it, especially when it's all over social media and in your face and during the game when we're, like, winning and we're still getting booed.

Yeah.

You know, and they will boo the shit out of you, but they will not let another team boo you. You know, they will fight that person, but, like, 10 minutes later, they'll boo their own team.

You know, there's a certain way to do things and you're going to. He's going to keep coaching you and keep coaching you until you do it right. And it just, everybody gets better. And you know, and the cool thing about him, like he's, he's going to coach like the last player, like scout team guy guy, just as hard as you're gonna coach starters. And he's just intense with everybody and it just makes for environment for the O line, just like all group together and you know, work on, you know, our skills and get, get better together, you know, because it's rough in there some days. You know, you're watching film and you know, you, you'll have some rough days and you know, it's all about accountability.

They just think we got. They got better corn than we do, which is kind of up. I mean, just keep it simple.

I know. And it's. It sucks when he's like. I guess like, that's a rival. It just does.

It hasn't made it to the grass yet because, again, it's been a lopsided last decade. It's more of a very real thing inside of households. But now that we're getting in basketball, they've all, like, our wrestling programs have always been. Have always been solid. I was always been elite, an elite wrestling program. We're better now, but it just. It hasn't made its way onto the grass yet. It's got to make its way onto the grass.

Yeah. I just want. I want you guys to feel what that rivalry is like. I want you guys to feel hatred in your blood when it comes to Iowa. Nebraska, like, you could tell, but you're. Everyone's kind of bouncing around, getting bounce around the bush a little bit. But I want to see Nebraska fans and Iowa fans truly hate each other. You guys deserve it.

It's kind of hard to. Both states got some just quality people, good people, and they don't.

Because the way they operate, it's like, dude. And the fundamentals they play with, too. Like, you just respect that ball. Like, there was nothing flashy about what they did. Like. Like, clearly, Mendoza, he'll be the first overall pick, and he's incredible, but, like, their game was RPO slants and verts with back shoulder throws. Like, and that's kind of it. I mean, they would have screens, they would have different route concepts, but that was, like, the base of all their offense. And then you watch on the defensive side of the ball, like, everybody had. Yeah, everybody had. Was gap sound in the right gaps, handled themselves. getting better every day. I mean, it's tough. That super bowl we won. I mean, I herniated. I had a herniated disc, and then right before the play playoffs, my disc, like, broke off and got wrapped around my sciatic nerve. So it was just like, oh, my. Suffocating my leg. It was hard to walk. I don't know how I was playing. Like, it was. It was easily the worst month of my life, but then also, like, kind of the best month of my life because we won the Super Bowl. But it was just miserable, dude. Just the pain and then getting surgery and, like, trying to get back for the next year, and, you know, it's Always tough having a surgery in the off season, but when you have back surgery, it is tough. Like, it takes a good year to come back from that. And, like, I'm starting to feel really good. But, dude, just all year, just trying to get through that. Just a tough year with the back, but it's feeling so much better.

[Tara Lawan]

When you go through injuries like that, do you, like, is there, like, a reevaluation process that takes place? Because I'm sure, like, when you made it to the league second round, you're like, I want to play X amount of years. Or you have, like, these new goals that you've set your set for yourself since you've beaten this Nebraska goal. When you have injuries like that, do you rework it? Rethink it? You start to think to yourself, hey, the older I get, the more ailments I'm going to have. Does that ever cross your mind?

[Cam Jurgens]

A little bit. And, you know, you. When you get injured, you just go through the rehab and recovery process and, like, you gotta. You gotta fall in love with that, you know, going into the training room when you can't do anything, just like, all right, let's. Let's attack the day. Let's try to. Whatever we're doing today, let's do everything we can and, you know, get a little bit better. And the rehab process is brutal, you know, and you guys know you've had so many injuries when you're going through and you thinking, you know, you're. You're in pain, you can't walk or whatever.

[Will Compton]

Will I even get back to.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah, but you're gonna get back. You gotta love the. The process of it. And I've had so many injuries, you know, it just comes with it, I think throughout high school and college. I broke a bone in October, like, every year for, like. Like, six straight years.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah, spooktober. Spooky.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah, spooky. Bone breaks every year.

Is it always your lower limbs? Like, how many. How many. How many bones have you, like, how many surgeries have you had? Let's start there.

I think, like six or seven.

Which isn't terrible right now. Nothing major.

Yeah.

Back, maybe. Major leg, but like, otherwise just small things.

What's that back rehab look like? I've never, like, Dennis Kelly, pretty much

[Cam Jurgens]

just getting your core back, you know, strengthening the core, getting your hips mobile, and, like, everything that goes along with that. But, like, nerves take forever to heal, you know, and it just takes a while, and, you know, you don't have time in football, you know, and you're just going out there and playing, it doesn't matter what percent you're at when you're on the field. Like, whatever you are at is your 100 at that point.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

Like the film is the film.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

How the did you get back for the Super Bowl?

[Cam Jurgens]

Dude, it was impossible. It was. I remember, like, the NFC Championship game, like, trying to get ready for that game. And every. Every day, it was. It was brutal. I mean, going out for warm ups before the game, like, I was just trying to run around and block. I'm like, yo, I can't feel my leg right now. Kept falling. And I'm like, all right. Like, I. I'll be suited up and ready, but I don't know. I don't know, guys. And I'll be ready on the sideline if you need me.

[Tara Lawan]

Right.

[Cam Jurgens]

But. So I didn't start that game. And then we had another guy landing and go down in that game. I'm like, all right, I'll play the second half. It was just like a tag team effort. Just, you know, all right, I'm pretty bad, but I don't think I'm that bad right now. Like, I can play the second half.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

And just going out there and then get a. Get an epidural shot going into the super bowl.

[Tara Lawan]

And.

[Cam Jurgens]

And hopefully it's just like a band aid, you know, you're just trying to, like, get through.

[Tara Lawan]

What is the epidural like, from a strength standpoint? I got one in my neck, like, I think year two or year three, because I kept getting stingers. But there was a moment, like, I think it was like, week seven, I couldn't take a 25 pound plate and lift it over my head. And they're like, you go. You'd be all right. You're go do your thing. Like, did you, like, lose strength? Because essentially an epidural shuts down the nerve, correct?

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah, it. It just helps calm down the nerve and then inflammation in that area. Yeah, but, yeah, like, when you can't feel your leg, you don't have strength in your leg.

[Tara Lawan]

Right. You know, this is crazy.

[Cam Jurgens]

Oh, like, my calf. Like, that nerve goes all the way down your leg. And I remember, like, my calf felt like I. I tore my calf. Like, and it's fine. It's just a nerve. I didn't tear anything. But, dude, every day it'd be something new, and you're just like, trying to get out of bed and block the facility. I'm just like, sitting on these, like, physio balls because I can't sit on a chair hair. It's just, like, miserable. But then you get through it, and, you know, you. You have a good perspective. You know, when you get injured, you're like, man, when I get healthy, like, I'm gonna remember, like, how it feels and everything like that.

[Tara Lawan]

It's. Yeah, the. The injury thing. Like, even when you, like, hurt your finger and it's like, something so small, but you're like, man, once this finger's healed, I'm gonna never take my fingers for granted. Like, you have, like, this do thought of, like, it's like, when you get sick and you're like, I'm never not washing my hands again. And then, like, you're three months removed. You're like, I don't wash my hands this time.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah.

[Tara Lawan]

So, yeah, it's like a. Like, a renewed feeling of, like, I

[Cam Jurgens]

need this fingers sucked it.

[Tara Lawan]

Fingers are awful.

[Cam Jurgens]

Like, you can jam a finger and you swear it's broke.

[Tara Lawan]

Yeah.

[Cam Jurgens]

And you're like, all right. Yeah, we're gonna have to X ray this. And you X ray is like, you sure it's not broke? It feels pretty broke, right?

[Tara Lawan]

You're, like, trying to close your Dude. And anytime you, like, jam a finger, like, the accuracy of your punch, like, subconsciously is just not where it needs to be because your brain is like, we got to protect whatever that is. Like, I broke this one in camp, and for the next, like, two weeks, like, my right hand, wherever I put it, was like, that's not where it's supposed to go. It would just be a little wider. I'd let him in my chest a little bit. It's just. Yeah, the fingers are awful.

[Cam Jurgens]

Oh, in high school, I had this one. I. I broke it. I didn't know I broke it at the time. And my fingers, like, pointing straight out, and I go to the sideline, I'm like, hey, I think I dislocated my finger. I think I can just pop it back. And so, like, I just pulled it, popped back into place, taped it up, and I got an X ray the next day, and it was just broke all the way through. No, I don't know if I did that or that happened, but, yeah, I had to get four pins put in there. I'm like, yeah, probably popping it back into place. It wasn't the joint, right?

[Will Compton]

Yeah, but what a badass story to have.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah. No, I went back in there. We won the game.

[Will Compton]

It was looking right back, straight ahead, head. I remember one time, it was when I Was with Oakland. I got my thumb caught in a helmet, and it just my. It just my thumb up, dude. It was brutal to have for the rest of the year because just a. It's like, you're playing on it, but it never, like, gets better because you're having to practice and operate on it every day.

[Tara Lawan]

Right.

[Will Compton]

You know what I mean? It's not like one of those injuries where you're just like, you can't be, like, a candy ass.

[Tara Lawan]

You can't rest. You can't do.

[Will Compton]

Yeah, but it hurts, bro.

Even, like, the first couple days of camp when, like, the palms just, like, from hitting chest plates, you're like, I don't want to do this.

No, dude. He would take a syringe at the end of it. So he would do his IV bag. They would take the IV bag out, and then it'd be like a syringe. Like, that was like, that big with 750 NAD, and they just put it in. So it was like 30 seconds.

The time I witnessed where his eyes are just bloodshot shot. He lays on the floor, and they just squeezed the bag the whole time. It took eight minutes. And it just looks like he's dying in front of you. Yeah.

Before he had his company, he was like, just kind of, like, doing mercenary work, ripping around. And so I met up with him. He's like, hey, the FDA has done studies up to 1850 for NAD, so let's just do that. And I would be in the basement of my house, first place that we. We met for, like, three hours, just, like, laying there doing 8:50 of NAD while him, my wife, played video games and got high. It was the most miserable experience of my life.

And there's like five different places you can go into. And you're walking through this penitentiary and it's like the most insane. They have like hundreds of actors come out there and they. It's so intense and so fun. I go every year.

So when I got my three credited seasons I was going into essentially like my contract was up because I was undrafted. So I only had like a three year deal and I was technically in the business terms, I was like an exclusive right, rights, free agent. And I'm thinking I got voted captain, I played a lot. Like I've started the entire year or I played a lot this year. Like I'm gonna be the guy going into next year. Like, surely they'll probably. We'll probably do like a two or three year deal and they'll kind of like reward you and then you kind of just learn. No, you're on an exclusive rights deal. Like, essentially, you sign this contract or you just don't. You're not going to play for anybody else. You're like, dude, so we're gonna work something out.

I'm like, tough when you're on draft,

like, really, you know. Yeah.

When you're on draft, drafter, you're fighting every year because like GMs, they draft somebody, they want him to work out and then they want him to be good. So you're going to keep getting chances because you're drafted and the GM wants to be like, yeah, I drafted that guy.

Yeah, we're like the undrafted cats, you know, it's. You're always getting replaced.

But seeing guys that like, are in your draft class and then they're getting cut, they're crying on their way out. There is no, like, development period. Like, in college for me, that was like the first time I was like, oh, shit, this is actually. You can't just stay here.

What happens to him now? It's like, well, hopefully another team picks him up. What if another team doesn't? It's like, well, he's got to figure it out.

Yeah, he's got to go live his life. It's like, oh, it could be over. Just like that. It's the craziest thing, man. They're seeing that first time in Canada

Yeah, no doubt. Because even in college, too, you say you're not working out or they're gonna still spend time trying to, like, not give up on you or develop you or whatever it is. You kind of. You're kind of still catered, especially if you're like a scholarship guy. So when that whole structure, you're going into the big leagues or the professional world, knowing that there is no structure whenever you're done, it's kind of like, yeah, that's why it's important to still, hey, what other interests might you have if you're not a guy who's going to play in the league for a decade?

So a smart play with the jerky move.

Yeah. Building business, man, it's. It's been fun. I mean, we got into. Just this last year, we got into 140 stores in, like, Pennsylvania, all across the state. And just, I mean, selling jerky. It's cool because I started in college with my right guard at the time, Matt Sichterman. He's like a software engineer. He, like, built a website. And my mom was with our business, and we made loc together and started. Started selling jerky. And, I mean, the whole goal was just, you know, stay close with one of my best friends, Matt, and then make my mom some money. And, man, it's been fun.

But that is cool, bro.

It's cool, like, because I have no idea what I'm doing in the business world or anything like that. And you just learn as you go, just fall forward. Yeah. You're always just learning. And you're like, all right, what steps do I take? It's like, well, let's just figure it out. Let's. Let's do this. And then if it doesn't work, then we'll figure it out. The next step.

Yeah. We were having that conversation the other day about how, like, I had my. I had kids while I was playing. Will was. After how many years playing, I met my wife. Year three. Like, going into year four, I had my first child played nine. Wish I could say 10. And so, yeah, I had two kids. But it really turns into, like, when you have kids and you're in the NFL, like, there's a kind of, like, the main thing is football.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah.

[Tara Lawan]

Like this. That it sucks to say. And it's, like, really hard for some people to hear, but, like, you're only in this for a certain amount of time. The older you get, the more you realize, like, oh, the expiration date is coming. So to have a partner that sits there and is like, I understand that you have to do this right now. So I'll take on, like, 80% of the work, 90% of the work, and you come in and fit in where you possibly can. And then there's a whole different game of when the season ends and you're on this routine of. Of waking up at whatever time you are getting back, watching the film, doing the massages, hitting the nad. Like, your process, your routine. Now you're coming back into your family's routine, and they've already established theirs. And so you're trying to fit in and be like, yeah, I'm the dad, so I need to put myself here. But then there's, like. It kind of ruffles a lot of feathers because she's so used to doing that. So, like, the first couple weeks for me, after every season, was very difficult for me to, like, kind of, like, put myself back into my family's life because it's. It really was like, you guys have to take a back seat for this. Six, seven months, whatever it is, and routines, just everything.

[Cam Jurgens]

Because it's hard to have motivation and energy all the time. But if you just stick to a routine, you're Consistent. Like, that's everything. When you get done with the season, your routine just shifts and you, like, lose yourself for a little bit. Trying to, like, get back in the training. Getting your routine set exactly. Always takes time. But, like, when you have kids and. Or a dog or whatever, like, your routines just constantly changing.

[Will Compton]

I'm smiling because Jared perked up when you said, or a dog. And he's like. Because he's inside. Inside.

But, yeah, like, I. I was talking to Taylor, too. I'm like, I just feel like I just lucked into the part of, like, having the kids after, because part of me was. I was like, I'd love to have kids, like, while I'm playing. So you get, like, photos on the field and do all the stuff.

Then when we had kids or when we had Rue at first, and I was looking at. This was year 10, but when I was looking at leaving and going to Atlanta to play and knowing all the things that it takes to, like, pour into a newborn and your kid really just pour into your wife because of everything that they go through, and I just. It was almost like a perspective shift. Was like, dude, it's got to be hard to balance being a parent in having a career, like playing in the NFL, because you're so. Your entire dream growing up is playing in the NFL. And then when you were playing in the NFL and you either meet your wife or you had. Had your girlfriend going into. And then you decide to have kids, you almost just don't. You're just blinded to it because you're not thinking about. You're just like, yo, this career is the career I've always dreamed of having, and we got to do everything we can to make sure I maintain this career. But then it's like my perspective shifted into, like, you know, respect to the. The. Because when I was set to leave, Rue was like, Rue was born in April, so about seven months in, and I was about to go to Atlanta. Part of me was like, I kind of hate that I have to go. Like, I'm just not gonna see, like, my baby and my wife for this extended amount of time, however long that I Would have played, even played in Atlanta, or you guys can come visit me then. And it's like, well, that's going to take a lot of hoops to go through because the baby has such a structure that you're kind of. Of married to.

When I was leaving, when it didn't work out, a part of me was like, relieved of, like, well, at least I get to be home or be around my kid. Because I kind of felt bad that I was like, hey, I'm gonna still go chase this year 10, or kind of go chase this dream when I know it's pretty much done. Like, I'm kind of just going to do it for fun now. And leaving you guys back, I'm kind of like, I felt like a shitty person.

Yeah. Yeah.

Because it is.

You. You were in such a unique situation, but it is, like, kind of the part of, like, guys leaving their families. Like, dudes that get traded mid year and they're in like, year nine or ten, they have a multiple kids and their kids are in school, so they, like, have to go to a new city. They're like, yeah, my kids get done with school. They're coming out there. So that's months.

Of them just not seeing their father. And it's face times and phone calls. You. Your situation is wild.

Mine is wild because it's like, busing's going well.

There's really like, there was no reason to leave. But also, also, it's like, once you're done, you're done. Like, once you. Once you shut down, you hang out the cleats. Like, we all go through, like, this. This part of being like, hey, it's crazy. It's over. Like, I'm three years removed from playing football and I think about football, it's like, it's crazy to think I ever did that. Like, it feels like such a foreign world to me now because you have all these new things you're doing every single day. We. We get to do this. But also your kids are going. So you're just like, not. Like, I'm focused on football. When it's on in the fall, we have to do our show and stuff like that.

[Will Compton]

But.

But something that was such a. Like, the majority part of your life, that was the biggest part. 80% of your life is now 10 of your life. And it's such a weird thing to kind of balance and just like, kind of reflect on and think back. Like, that's crazy. We used to play.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

What was like, the Things going through your head before you retire and being like, I can't wait to do this when I'm done playing football. Like, what. What were you guys looking forward to the most?

[Tara Lawan]

I think you already kind of said it. And it's. It's due to. It's. It's. There's. There's on the micro. It's waking up on August 7th. And then you look at the. The thermostat and it's 92 degrees outside. And you know there's a bunch of guys in the town that you played in, and they're all dying. You're like, you know what? I'm gonna take another 45 minutes. I'm gonna sleep a little bit longer today. Like, that's something you're like, yeah, you think about when you're playing. Like, it's crazy. When I'm done, I can just sleep during this day. Something about, like, going trick or treating with your kids and not think about, I have to play this guy in three days, and these are his moves. I remember we would do a thing with the Titans where, like, we try to do most Fridays, like, I get the Old Line boys together, a couple extra guys. We would go to a haunted house in Nashville. And I specifically remember, like, walking through these haunted houses. And while I'm, like, trying to, like, be in the moment, I'm thinking about Von Miller's, you know, spin move and how he sets it up while I'm walking through. So I'm not truly present. I'm kind of, like, enjoying it, but I'm not really enjoying it. And there's like, Christmas, and it's like, you go into meetings, aren't till 2pm so you can enjoy the morning. It's like, okay, we're doing this, but in your brain while they're opening presents, you're like, I gotta get back to that. So it's like Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving. It's like, I never played on Thanksgiving. Have you played on Thanksgiving before?

[Cam Jurgens]

I think so. But yeah, holidays suck when you're.

[Tara Lawan]

Holidays suck, dude. And then once you get out, bro, it is. It's so much fun. And that's what makes October even better. It's like the opening ceremony to all of the holidays. It's. Holidays change everything, dude. Yeah, that when football's done, the holidays are such a game changer. And it's truly like, you don't get a lot of reflective periods when you're doing this. Especially the world we live in because we get the jump from something so quick. And there wasn't that time of, like, what is my identity? Who am I? I've been this for so long. Like, that kind of like, got to go away because we still get to live in this type of world. But the holidays, when you really sit back and it's like Thanksgiving and I got the boy over and his kids running around and Ru's asking me to go do something while all the the older kids are upstairs and I bring her up and you kind of sit on the couch. Everyone's got full bellies. My boys are over, and it's like, I got nothing to worry about today. Yeah, this is. There's nothing. I'm going to throw a couple of bets on. Hopefully Detroit doesn't the bag because we're going to bet on them because they do it every single year. And this is awesome.

[Will Compton]

Yeah, it's like the moment as a vet when you experience a weekend in season to where you're not playing like mine. Like, I. When we launched, when we were doing busing, I was fired up about doing the bus because I was like, you know, this is a transition that we could have.

[Cam Jurgens]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

But I was. There's still a part of me. It's like, all right, whenever August comes around, like, I'm gonna still try and get on a team and play for the year. For me, like, I ended up going to the Saints, but then I got injured in the fourth preseason game, and so I got an injury settlement. Like, my ankle was just fucked for like six weeks and then I'd be ready to go. But just kind of tasting those first six weeks of the season where at first I'm kind of like, you just feel out of place because you feel like you need to be focused or, like, involved somehow. Like, it just doesn't feel right. But when I'm like, I'm back home. I just played for the Titans. I'm watching the Titans on the weekend, thinking about how we could balance bus and with Taylor still playing on the Titans. Or I'm gonna go in and do xy. I'll probably do the intro solo or whatever we were doing then. But seeing the Titans lose and knowing like, oh, I didn't lose, like, I'm not going to be in the meeting rooms the next day, there's almost just this weird weight of anxiety that you kind of release yourself from for when you wake up on Monday morning, you step outside and it's fall and you got the crisp breeze and just the spooktober vibes are coming, and you're kind of like, like, maybe A little fall golf. Yeah, maybe a little fall golf. But you feel like you should be in trouble since the team that I'm following or still feel invested and just lost the game, but I kind of don't have that. And then that kind of stacked. And then when I played on Oakland, I kind of felt like, oh, this might be my last year. But the moment you start experiencing the holidays, the weekends in the fall, and just knowing you're not tied, Your identity isn't tied to something to where? You know, in Nebraska, when you lose, you feel like the world's just on top of you. Or in the NFL, when you have the business aspect expect. Or I'm not playing well, what's the front office thinking? Or what are. What's the meeting vibe going to be like? Like, is our guys going to get our together this week? Are we going to win this game? When you're kind of, like, done with that, it takes a. It takes a little bit. But the moment you accept and you're kind of like, yo, I'm gonna go get a iced latte down at the coffee shop this morning and not have any obligation to sit there and stare

at my phone for a little bit.

Nowhere to be in, and you're just

seeing kind of the headlines. You're like, oh, like, that kind of sucks.

And, you know, guys are dealing with their things because they're in the bubble. It's like, anytime we could say something out of pocket about a guy and he might feel some type of way, I'm thinking, like, okay, I can definitely empathize with what he's probably with what he's feeling, because he's in. He's in the bubble still. Like, I was the same way. I always thought, like, man, this kind of sucks. Seeing my name come across, everybody kind of dogging on it, talking on it. But then when it's over and you're kind of, like, removed from it, you're like. Like, you feel like you can just breathe. I don't know. You just enjoy. You enjoy everything a lot more when you're playing.

for this game and they're doing all these things. Like, it would be fun to partake in that, but also, I got to

focus on this other thing, so please don't bother me too much. And then you wake up Saturday morning in the team hotel and you have a game at 3:12, 3:30, night game, and, like, just slowly that anxiety starts creeping in your body where you get the breakfast. You're like, no, I can't really eat. I don't want to come off. Like, I'm nervous right now because I want everyone else to feel good because I have to play everyone else. Like, everyone wants to feel good, so I'm gonna, like, kind of just hold this internally in me. Then you get on the bus, and it's probably. This might be the same for you. I feel like it's different for guys that have stats because you think about ball and, like, how many tackles am I gonna get? How many catches am I get for whatever? How many yards am I gonna run for? For us, it's like, at least for me, I'll speak for myself as, like, I just pray to God I don't this up for the rest of the guys today. That could be a part where it's like, yeah, I did my job to help the rest of the team win, but what if I get exposed? So you have this, like, imposter syndrome thing going on, and you're like, literally driving into your home game. You're driving into the S slot, whatever it is. And you're just thinking to yourself, like, the anxiety is so high. And you walk in, fans are fired up. You try to, like, get them all hyped up, and you're behind. You're like, this is truly my judgment day right now. National anthem hits, and they're just like, I need to just hurry up and get on the field before I throw up. Now all that is gone.

And, like, game days, when we're playing at home, my house just turns into a hotel. Who's ever in town, my parents are always out there. And then, like, there's just so juice for the game, so much energy, and I'm just, like, nervous for the game. You know, anxiety is hidden, and you just trying to, like, prepare. And then your parents are just, like, excited about tailgate. Doing this, doing that. Oh, my gosh. This year, it was a night game, and, like, I was getting ready to head out the door, and my dad's like, hey, you want to drop me off at the tailgate on the way in?

I'm like, no, I'm not dropping you

off with a tailgate. I'm sitting here thinking I'm about to go to war. Like, I feel like I'm, bro, driving down to, like, Baghdad dad gonna, like, you know, go to war with the bad guys. And then your dad's like, hey, you want to drop me off of the tailgate?

But it's such a different culture in football because, like, you go out of that and you go to a regular world, and your boss is no longer cussing at you doing the same shit. You're like, man, this is weird.

You're like, just you can't just, you know, say the things you're saying in locker room or with your culture, like with the guys in the building.

So you're like, oh, okay, I had

The hardest part is like, I feel

like you come off of such a high in, in football to where we

And after the game, I think a lot of guys struggle is finding that

next thing that gives you the same

urge that you feel weird of, like, you know, adapting yourself to the retired life of like, what is my next

thing going to be? That's probably the biggest hurdle that I feel guys struggle with. Because you're on such a roller coaster. Move in because it's so fight or flight the entire time. Like, am I going to be here tomorrow or am I going to take down Vaughn Miller? Like, it's. It's something different every day, every week. There's so much variety. Three, you don't have that as much

when you're out of it. You can just get cut and traded anytime, anywhere. And like, the casual fan just sees that and they're like, oh, so and so just got traded. Can't wait for him to play. But then if you're a player, you're like, man, how's he going to move his entire family out there and then practice to tomorrow after he just got traded?

Yeah.

You know, it's like, dude, the logistics behind everything and, like, moving or whatnot. Like, people don't understand that.

And I get drafted to Philly, and this is always, like, the story I tell. Like, when I. When I go to Philly, like, I. I had to go to see a dentist when I got there. And I get the address, go to the dentist office. It's downtown. I'm driving my, like, big truck down there. I pull up to a building. It's a skyscraper. I'm like, okay, where the hell do I park? I'm like, trying to find a place to park. Finally get to a garage. Truck don't fit. They have to hold it outside for me. I go in there. I'm like, all right, I'm here to see the dentist.

Where is it? And they're like, all right, it's on the 17th floor.
